Premiere Watch: A Good Day to Be a Dog

Time slot: Wednesdays
Broadcaster: MBC
Genre: Rom-com, fantasy
Episode count: 14

Reasons to watch: MBC’s new Wednesday-only slot opens up with the webtoon adaptation A Good Day to Be a Dog. Between the source material and the fandom around Cha Eun-woo, the buzz for this drama is sky-high. Park Kyu-young is the real draw for me here, though — she was fabulous as the rom-com lead in Dal-li and Gamjatang, and here we have a whole new world of hijinks, what with a kiss, a curse, and a scruffy dog. MBC will drop Episodes 1 and 2 on premiere night, but then it looks like we might be down to one episode weekly as the drama continues its 14-episode run.

TL;DR: The much-anticipated webtoon adaptation is finally here!

Why is there a rating for the show when it hasnt started yet?!

Anyway, I will still check this out. Lee Hyun Woo is the main draw for me. And that dog looks really cute!

That's exactly what I was wondering. Why do you have to rate a drama that hasn't even started yet?

That happens in Viki too XD
It's so weird. Someone came from the future just to rate the drama.

Honestly, I don’t pay attention to ratings or reviews anywhere anymore 😅 I have to find out for myself!

Sometimes when I see that a drama has 10 stars before it's even started, I'm tempted to rate it 1 star just to equalize. I haven't done it, mind you, but the appeal is real. 😈

I wish the rating function allowed a user to un-rate a show. As far as I can tell, once you've entered a star rating, you can change it but not delete it altogether. (I'd be happy to be proved wrong.)

I was tempted to do the same thing but I like the leads so I didnt. 🤣

Yes you can only edit but not remove the rating.

There were already comments under reviews like the story is good and the actors are great when the drama didn't start yet...

True! It threw me off. Cha Eun Woo is not my cup of tea, just can't stand the guy's plastic immobile face, but even for me it was too much to think the drama came and went and I had no clue...it worried me for a bit....

Dali and Gamjatang was such a quirky and underrrated gem of a rom com. Park Kyu-young and Kim Min-jae were fabulous as the leads.

Ill check this out for her, because Cha Eun-woo and his wooden "acting" doesnt inspire confidence.

@soyesterday: There with you! Dali and Gamjatang - much better than the English title btw - was indeed a gem. I loved it too. It was hard to watch KMJ act as a blowhard but the character became really endearing as the drama progressed and evolved to be a sweet person.

Agreed 100%,

i have a soft spot for secretly kind hearted oaf-ish male characters,... that and Himbos.

Of course you should never marry them in real life, but fiction is another story. Ha!

Haha. I hear you! It became really fun once KMJ stopped yelling so much! And, PKY was just luminous and mesmerising. She is that rare actor who is a chameleon. Since we are talking about the drama, I want to watch it again and have a gabfest with you

Now im remembering one of my favourite scenes, the one where he finally confronts his father about the resentment he's been harbouring for years over the way his mother was treated.

Darn it!!, let me add it to my rewatch list

It was a wonderful scene for sure. The whole shebang was such a pleasure that I didn’t even mind the fake out at the end. They sure had amazing chemistry which wasn’t just carnal but also based on this deepening friendship and mutual respect. The best KIND of chemistry if you ask me!
Darn it for me too. Rewatch x2!

Okok. I am convinced 😉 added it to my watchlist

@dncingemma I’m 4 episodes in. Thanks for this. Loving it so much. I don’t hate KMJ’s blowhard acting at all. On the contrary, truly enjoying it, though I am developing a crush on the SML

5

@Asha13: It makes me happy that you are enjoying it! KD yelling gets on my nerves but glad you are not bothered by it.

It's such a shame that Lee Hyun-woo has been downgraded to SL but excited to see Park Kyu-young!

I’ve been struggling and struggling to place where I’ve seen Lee Hyun-Woon (it’s like a game sometimes, you know?)…and I gave up and went and looked at his page here on DB…NOPE?!@ I’ve not seen any of those dramas.

It’s the movie Dream. He was a delight.

This day was a long time coming, I hope that I can enjoy the drama as much as I enjoyed the webtoon. I see them as two very different ways to tell the story and I am look forward to seeing this version of the character’s world. There are a couple of characters I want to see brought to life because they stood out in the story.

Funny how all have to drag a famous actor to praise their biases. Here is the fact, Cha Eunwoo has proven is caliber as a bankable star. The drama becomes hit in his name. All his dramas including the one which was released on Prime always have been in Top 1. May be when your biases prove that, they will become main lead. Till then stop crying. I am exited for this drama and Eunwoo. Can't wait for another hit.

This is be a very fun rom-com and even the original writer Lee Hey said tha the cast Cha Eunwoo, Park Gyu Young and Lee Hyun Woo were 100% synchronized with the original webtoon. We know that CEW and PGY had great chemistry in their previous collaboration in the music video so great chemistry between them is a given.

To be fair, Lee Hye also was very positive about the 19th Life adaptation. However, from the trailer this adaptation seems much more faithful to the overall vibe than 19th Life.

The 6-minute highlight reel spoiled like 50% of the whole story, but it also got me more excited than ever because I am LOVING Eunwoo and Gyuyoung's chemistry. I really think the cast is perfect for each of their roles, and I cannot wait to watch in ... 10 seconds without subs lol.

I've been waiting for this for YEARS, ever since it was first rumored. This is one of my absolute favorite webcomics of all time (and unlike 19th Life, I loved the main couple rather than just the secondary couple, lol). The vibe looks really similar to the webcomic from what I've seen, so I'm cautiously optimistic that this will stay true to the original story themes and won't end up being like 19th Life. I'm also pretty happy with the casting, although it remains to be seen if Cha Eun-woo will portray Seo-won's character well--as I've said repeatedly, he isn't who I would have chosen for the role. But I will give him a chance!

Don't worry, this time around I'll keep my thoughts on the drama as an adaptation specifically to my fanwall.

@vienibenmio I don't read webcomics, so I'm hoping that the kdrama writers listen to you this time in terms of the adaptation.

If this starts getting too heavy with a gang of vicious and violent dog kidnappers threatening the FL, I'm going to depend on you to straighten everything out. You should have plenty of time to demand a reshoot if necessary, since with one episode a week and various news and sports cancellations I predict this won't be over until Fall, 2024.

It's been difficult to get reliable information - even MBC's show page wasn't clear - but it seems that after the initial 2-episode drop, it will go to 1/week on Wednesdays. That matches up to the info on MDL and elsewhere that with the remaining 12 episodes, the show will run until January 2024.

@elinor @Kiara: The KDrama scene is so crowded now so could it just be an attempt to stay afloat and try to outlast all these other dramas? Btw, a few weeks ago, I came across this whopping number of all the KDs made this year. I can’t precisely recall the numbers to my regret but it astounded me.

This adaptation was fun to watch and followed the webtoon pretty well with some minor changes and the story was at a good pace. Love the chemistry between Jin Seowon, Han Haena and Yul.

I'd say that was a great start. Lot more comedic moments and they've completely changed the backstory vis a vis the reason for the curse, but I enjoyed myself. Hae-na seems more... abrasive in this version (webtoon Hae-na would have never called Sean-woo an obnoxious jerk) and she's way more into SML imo. But she also has some great lines... "I keep a disappointment diary" went hard. also her hiding in the closet the morning after... 🥺

Tbf, Sean-woo is also more cold and kinda rude in this? Also, I think they got the baker from My Lovely Liar in this just so the sister could have someone at the end, which is cool.

Either way, I'm just hoping the main leads falling in love is as cute and stress-free as it was in the original, with all the fluffy moments. Hopefully, this Lee Hey adaptation doesn't become flat and stale as the other one...

No exaggeration, this drama is 1000/10! I experienced so many emotions while watching episodes 1&2. The acting was great, directing was perfect plus the amazing musical scoring! Kudos to the A GOOD DAY TO BE A DOG team, you all should be proud!!! looking forward to next episodes.
