[K-drama Treasure Hunt] Couple items

Welcome to the K-drama treasure hunt, where we all go looking for K-drama treasure in the form of tiny drama details that we know and love. Sometimes these details take the shape of well-worn tropes (oppa Band-Aiding) or storytelling devices (Top Secret Deadly Allergy), but other times it’s just details we know we’ve seen in other dramas, but need help putting all the clues together.

Each week we’ll put you on the hunt for a piece of K-drama treasure, and you can report your findings in the comments.

There’s no umpire in this game, so if you find the detail we’re looking for, drop the drama title (or even better, drama title + episode number) in the comments, and we’ll all take your word for it. Or, we’ll go binge watch just to see it play out.

And remember, we’re here to map our way to the treasures not to the plot twists! We know how exciting it can be to have all the hard-earned details stashed in your head, but let’s try to keep the spoilers out of the comments.

This week’s treasure:

Couple items

Your mission:

Find as many scenes as you can where a romantic duo shows off their couple status through matching duds. Sometimes it’s a pair of sneakers — like our newly linked side couple in Tell Me That You Love Me with their all-green kicks — but the sky is the limit when it comes to couple items in dramaland. Whether it’s t-shirts, sweaters, keychains, rings, or something else entirely, if it’s matchy-matchy, it’s a winner in this treasure hunt round.

Reference drama:

Tell Me That You Love Me (Episode 11)

Does it count that in The Matchmakers, the main couple's hanbok colors almost always matched? At times, the secondary couples' did, too.

King the land the male lead bought matching sports outfits so the female lead would not be embarrassed by her appearance when they went out for a meal. I can’t remember what happened to her original clothes.

Oh, I think they were (conveniently) caught in the rain, and while Sarang had no umbrella and was already drenched after some brooding outside post-post-breakup on her birthday, Won threw his away when he found her. (I guess out of loyalty. 😉) Of course they would have caught a cold like that*, had he not stepped in and bought new clothes! It was practically chivalry!

* only in dramaland

Off to rewatch. 💨

Coffee Prince: Han Gyul pierces Eun Chan's ear with the earring that matches his when they become blood brothers. It's a clear and public sign of his bond and feelings for Eun Chan even if he hasn't completely admitted it to himself yet.

Fake It Til You Make It (yes, a cdrama, but still): The friendship rings that go through many different iterations of what their relationship means, but they are always emotionally connected through the rings. The rings were really well used throughout the drama.

I agree on the green sneakers in TELL ME THAT YOU LOVE ME.
But I always shake my head when this happens in k-dramas considering the old Korean superstition on giving footwear (shoes, slippers, boots) as a gift to your loved one. Koreans believe that receiving shows as a gift will kill the relationship. The person in the relationship who receives the shoes will 'run away' from their significant other.

I think the OTP wore matching pink shirts / sweatshirts, blue jeans and white shoes in W: Two Worlds.

I’m sure there are many many more with matching shirts / t-shirts wearing OTPs but cannot recall any more at the moment.
