[K-drama Treasure Hunt] Locked in a storage room together

Welcome to the K-drama treasure hunt, where we all go looking for K-drama treasure in the form of tiny drama details that we know and love. Sometimes these details take the shape of well-worn tropes (oppa Band-Aiding) or storytelling devices (Top Secret Deadly Allergy), but other times it’s just details we know we’ve seen in other dramas, but need help putting all the clues together.

Each week we’ll put you on the hunt for a piece of K-drama treasure, and you can report your findings in the comments.

There’s no umpire in this game, so if you find the detail we’re looking for, drop the drama title (or even better, drama title + episode number) in the comments, and we’ll all take your word for it. Or, we’ll go binge watch just to see it play out.

And remember, we’re here to map our way to the treasures not to the plot twists! We know how exciting as it can be to have all the hard-earned details stashed in your head, but let’s try to keep the spoilers out of the comments.

This week’s treasure:

Locked in a storage room together.

Your mission:

With so much K-drama action occurring in storage rooms and closets, we’re looking for those specific moments when a couple is locked up in one of these small spaces together. There are those moments when a crazy killer has locked them in (ahem, Cheer up), and the ones when the couple isn’t so sad about all the extra free time they’ve just acquired. Go forth, Beanies! And bring back tales of the storage room.

Reference drama:

Cheer Up (Episode 2)

In Hyena, Kim Hye-Soo and Ju Ji-Hoon dash into a supply closet to hide from one of their law firm’s clients. The chemical reaction when these bickering ex-lovers get up close and personal is, figuratively speaking, explosive!

My first thought to this question too! Explosive is correct!

Wonderful, wonderful prompt!! And I simply have to second @babylilo for my first entry because it's so good.

Ever wondered what it would be like to be hopelessly in love with a strong character played by Kim Hye-soo and not be able to show it?

Ever wondered what it would be like to be hopelessly in love with a strong character played by Joo Ji-hoon and not be able to show it?

I know I have.

Ever wondered what it would be like to have this emotional tension build up in episode upon episode, only to have the two of them thrown into a storage closet where you get pressed into close physical proximity and need to keep quiet there, touching like you wish you could but know you shouldn't, as close as could be?

Would you also like it to be hilarous?

Well, look no further than to the experience of watching Hyena, episode 5 around the 55-minute mark.

For my second entry today, I'd like ask a similar question, only this time....

Ever wondered what it would be like to watch Jung Yong-hwa, yes, the Jung Yong-hwa of CNBLUE get locked into a huge industrial freezer with Cha Tae-hyun, yes, the Cha Tae-hyun, Moving's very own Bungaeman, and they only have each other's body heat to keep warm?

Well, look no further than to episode 3 of Brain Works, just after the 50-minute mark.

Yeah, the patriarchy has us all, and two men cuddling gets played for laughs, but actually...the show does a pretty nice job on this one. The desperate situation of our two male leads gets them talking about rea-life stuff, and it's a scene that lives rent-free in my head for sure. I honestly think back on it from time to time.

No serial killers, just heart flutters. In 18 Again Episode 6, Roh Jeong-eui and Choi Bo-min hide in a school cabinet and get very close, and when a teacher tries to open the door, she holds his hand.

YES! That show without gangster farmers, the kids and that love storyline would have been unwatchable for me. It was a shame the dark elements were so prominent in the story as the other elements like the villagers and second male lead were not working for me in terms of the humour.

2

The entire 'mother' plot was terrible. It almost made the drama unwatchable. The love story, the kids and the gangster farmers saved the day. The villagers were silly, unlike Butt Touch.

2

They were also hiding in a shed or something later in the show.

In SCHOOL 2013, Nam Soon and Heung Soo are locked in a storage closet when they are forced to move desks as punishment. While technically not a couple, they were arguably one of best bromances in Kdrama.

In GOONG, Chae Kyung and Shin are locked up in a room without their knowledge to have their "first night," which leads to a lot of conversation and some games.

In the INTEREST of LOVE, the main leads are locked in the bank room where they have time to talk and mislead/obfuscate to one another once again.

In CRASH LANDING on YOU, the couple have to hide in the hold of a fishing boat while trying to have the FL escape but then have to pretend to be a couple when discovered.

Sera and Sunwoo were tied together in the hospital storage room. Which led to them **ahem** struggling to get untied.

Reminds me of "A Hundred Days My Prince" where the couple were rolled into a carpet, and the prince was determined to roll out of that carpet until he suddenly insisted on just ... lying completely still. Because the thought of having to roll (over her body, inside that carpet) suddenly made him "very uneasy".
Then they made it about a rat, which worked fine, but honestly, the first moment when he kind of froze and did not want to roll - that was kind of hilarious/sweet/innuendo-ish'er.

Some shows where ML and FL have to hide in small places:

_ Seasons of Blossom (a little storage room).
_ Hello Monster (a closet).
_ Six Flying Dragons (a closet).
_ Hospital Playlist (a little storage room).

The scene in Hello Monster had so much sexual tension lmao which is funny because in pretty much every other scene I thought those two had no romantic chemistry at all.

I have just finished that drama and you are right, they didn't have too much chemistry (unfortunately) but in that very moment they were so close and Seo In Guk was soooo handsome, that the scene was "sizzling".

I don't think it's Guk handsomeness that makes his scenes sizzling, TBH. I just think he can sizzle, when he put his mind to it. And he can also handsome.
Quite a few people who you should think could out-sizzle him based on looks, can't.

My 20th It's a movie but during the school trip, the FL drinks and to not be caught, she hide in a closet with the ML.

Welcome to Waikiki 2 The 3 male leads hide in the FL's wardrobe that was moved to a new owner 😂

In Jealousy Incarnate/DOn't Dare TO Dream, Ja-young and Chef break into Hwashin's apartment to secretly place some money at his place and they end up spending the night at his place.
There's even a really good picture in the recap here on DB:

And as I recall, I think something awoke within Chef to make him not asexual. So that made Ja-young and him match better, which was fine, though representation of an attractive asexual was a very fine thing to have, too.

Gu Family Book (episode 10)
Kang Chi & Yeo Wool are stuck in a storage cellar. Before that they were stuck behind a secret door and had to keep it closed.

The characters are in a shipping container.

In Beautiful Gong Shim she actually lives in a closet, or, her room has been made into her sister's closet. And at some point our ML is hiding in there. I think her parents came home at something that seemed like a revealing moment, so he hid, and they have a lot of trouble getting him out without being seen.

I feel like people in kdramaland love to lock themselves/get stuck somewhere: storage rooms, closets, rooftops, elevators, etc.

Twinkling Watermelon episodes 3-4.
Technically Cheong Had was locked there alone, but then Yi Chan entered the room to hide from a teacher.
They stayed there for a while.

It also happened in the drama So Not Worth It but I don't remember the episode.

The refrigerator/freezer trope is popular because of the added frisson of the trapped couple having to huddle together for warmth.

I remembered a couple more instances:

Fated to Love You, episode 3. Mi-Young’s mom locks her and Gun in a musty storeroom overnight, until Gun’s grandmother gets there to sort out the situation of Mi-Young being pregnant with Gun’s child. While they’re held captive, Gun’s stomach starts rumbling to the point where he agrees to try some kind of strange seaweed. But he’s totally grossed out when Mi-Young starts snacking on some dried fish eyeballs!

Jumong - This one’s not at all funny or romantic. Ju-Mong pushes/drags a temple servant girl into a storage room over her strong protests. They get locked in, causing both of them to miss an important ceremony. The poor girl is expelled from the temple and ends up becoming a slave.

In Dong Yi, Dong Yi and the King were in a storage room together. It was not locked but they were hiding in one.
In LBFAD, if I remember correctly DFQC and Orchid were hiding in a closet together. Lots of tension!
In Good Job, JIW and Yuri was tied uo together in a hospital storage room. 🥰
The latest one was Yi Chan and Chung Ah locked together. The former was hiding from a teacher while the latter was locked in by bullies.
