Drama viewership ratings for the week of February 5-11, 2024

Despite major preemptions this weekend for the Lunar New Year holiday, most of our dramas held fast. Marry My Husband continues to soar, Queen of Divorce is also grabbing great numbers in that forgotten Wednesday-Thursday slot, and Knight Flower pulls in almost 13%!

The most interesting programming change this week, though, was the quadruple run for Captivating the King, which seemed to pay off with some decent ratings. The same can’t be said for Doctor Slump, which fell into a bit of a self-referential slump this week.

I was pleasantly surprised that Captivating the King had 2 more episodes this weekend!
Jo Jung Suk is the star of this drama for me. That is also a big jump for ep 9-10. It is smart to air new episodes on a Lunar New Year weekend.

I didn't realize four episodes were airing this weekend, so when I sat down to watch "two" episodes before bed last night, I stayed up waaaaay later than I intended. No way was I stopping after episode 8 when I saw that "play next episode" button pop up.

Koreans love their saeguks. Hence, it is a huge bonus especially when Goryeo-Khitan War is not airing any episodes this Lunar New Year weekend.

Well the quadrupling of episodes certainly helped in the ratings.

Queen of divorce is holding its own with increase from last week. I wonder if it will keep climbing or plateau and current levels.

Dr Slump dropping was a surprise and I wonder if it can be put down to people enjoying their New Years celebrations and family time over the weekend and not live watching tv. It will be interesting to see if the number go back up next week. I am expecting it to be matching Knight flower numbers before it ends.

Captivating the King is doing well, the four episode drop seems to have helped.

I think someone had mentioned even before DS started aring that the timing was wrong due to the lunar festival. They dropped two of the best episodes so far and it's rocking Netflix so I wonder if SK is gong to jump right back into the bandwagon next week.
Captivating the King is holding up well, though I think it would have been nice to have it finished in 12 episodes, it would have been much tighter. The palace politics is getting a bit repetitive.

I think Captivating the King has a chance of obtaining at least 8-10% by the last episode, as the king has confessed his feelings. JJS is still amazing as ever.

JJS is beyond good. He is truly captivating, no matter what he is doing. What an amazing actor!

He really is and thus far he is showing that he can master any emotion. I like to hear him speak also, specially his low voice, it's like he is singing his lines. I know he came from theater and musicals, much like Ahn Eun Jin.
And I think you are right about how the show is moving along. I am a little irked about some events, I will see if I can hold in my rant about it. It's not fair that the show's highest ratings thus far were in the episodes that were the weakest of them all.

He really is that good, whatever role he is playing he owns it.

I find Dr Slump boring despite the very good performance of the two P’s. While I understand the need for the two leads to unpack their current state of mind but we are close to the half way point with not much plot movement. I cant wait to see their next trajectory - please give me some drama.

Hanging on to pure romance only does not serve the plot well these day. It must or contain other factors like family/friendship/social issues/ thrillers these. Without the three competitors, one can see how Netflix could only do so much if the drama only rely on the two Parks.

I haven't watched episodes 5 and 6 yet, but I agree with you on it being a bit boring. I was expecting a bit more plot related to the reasons why the leads are in their current situation. I have no idea how they will fill 16 episodes. I am also disappointed in how little screen time SML has had so far.

The weekender actually slipped backwards, and I can see why. Something like this happened in this writer's previous Weekender FATHER I'LL TAKE CARE OF YOU where the writer's inability to write a love story was on full display. With all of the other competition for the weekend slots people are losing interest.

I am enjoying

Sorry, my cat jumped on my keyboard.

I am enjoying QUEEN OF DIVORCE. I think that it is doing well for its time slot.

That being said, I am wondering to what extent the Lunar New Year effected ratings.

Well, as someone who celebrates the Lunar New Year, i can tell you that most people (in this case the Koreans) are going back to their hometowns to celebrate with their families, and engaging with feasting and meeting their relatives and friends, which means spending less time watching dramas on tv. So less audience, less ratings that the measurement device can measure.

Happy Lunar New Year. I hope you had fun and didn’t eat a month’s worth of food in one weekend!

I agree depending on the time of the drama maybe some dramas got better ratings because people had returned home whilst others were on during peak socialising time?

I posted a response that has gone floating and yet the one after it came through. I will wait before retyping as I have been caught out with duplicates because I didn’t wait long enough.

So weird that the other post finally landed so I deleted the unnecessary one. No worries about the late response I am having issues with the site so can only pop on and do a bit and then log off again. So I am behind with my notifications.

@reply1988 It is okay. I get the same problem sometimes. Thank you for the wishes. Yeap, I spent a lot of time eating....Sorry for the late reply though, it took me some time as I went to bed. There is also the time difference factor cause I am from Malaysia, a country from South East Asia.

I love the image of your cat waiting for the right moment to pounce to cause maximum mayhem😆

My first cat used to habitually mess up my typing/gaming.
You can't really see the background in my banner, but he's lying behind my keyboard, in front of my monitor, and just a slight shift in position would have his chin resting on the escape key. Quite often.
I solved this by putting an extra chair next to mine so he could nap next to me without disrupting anything. Then a slight paw-press on my arm was his signal that I should swivel a bit so he could move over onto my lap for another nap without having to climb over the armrest. Purrfection.

That is a good idea and would have worked for our previous cats. In fact, I do keep a chair next to me with an especially soft blanket on it for her to sleep on- and I keep the armrests raised in any case as it is better for my posture- but the problem is that we have an especially athletic cat this time- she likes to move around a lot and insists on climbing on to my desk to be petted or play. She has my schedule down pat as well- in the morning she races into my office ahead of me, after I get my coffee.

But there it is- I come from a long line of animal lovers (we like dogs too) and would rather have a life that has them in it than not- and if they cannot interact with you then what is the point?

I'm glad the extra episodes helped Captivating the King even though I haven't watched them yet! I can't binge watch that many (max like 2), but I will try. 😂
