Beanie level: Eunuch in drag

So… ABYSS ep 1: the writers are tryna tell us that Park Bo-young’s character woke up in a coffin at her own funeral & didn’t realize that sth was off until she saw the funeral procession?

3
3

Maybe she has vampire blood and sleeping in a coffin is no big deal??? Oh, wait — the undead in this show don’t have much problem with mirrors & sunlight. Hmmm….

Meanwhile, I don’t see how the undertakers could close the coffin (once they finally found the lid) without seeing that it was empty.

    2
    1

Or that her parents, who supposedly loved her so much, wouldn’t come in for one last look at their precious child before the coffin was sealed. I just don’t get it. Unless they do things differently in South Korea.

Brilliance, intelligence, or even basic smarts, are not words used to describe the behavior of the characters in this drama.

Fortunately Go Ara hasn’t been in the show much due to her ankle injury – so I’ve been enjoying it.

Romance is a Bonus Book ep 13: I see the writers have decided to let go of their (nonexistent) “storyline” and just go witb chronicling the Life and Times of a Mary Sue.

What a waste.

Romance is a Bonus Book ep 8: WHY DIDN’T THE WRITERS HAVE THE SENSE TO MAKE THIS DRAMA THE SECRET LIFE OF MS GO!!!!!

Also ❤️❤️❤️ Hae-rin

OMG Romance is a Bonus Book ep 7: THROW THIS WHOLE SHOW IN RICE! WTF IS ALL THIS?!

(ALSO, THEY BETTER NOT THINK ABOUT SETTING SEO-JUN (UGHHH) WITH HAE-RIN (she’s the best thing abt the show

3

Whyyyyyyy am I doing this to myself? Because it’s not like I don’t have things and people stressing me out in real life. Whyyyyyyy???!!!!!

I think they’re totally going to set him up with Hae-rin. Which I also don’t want. He’s slowly being relegated to the darkest corners of second-lead land. The writer is slowly putting him into a box, and mostly definitely making him two-dimensional.
He was more of a caricature in ep.7

    1
    1

      Yep, yep, yep.
I already didn’t like him much because he was so rude, but ep 7 was ridiculous.

Please, those watching ITEM: do any of you understand the plot? Because I am sooooo confused. Is this happening in the present or in the past? What the heck is going on?

Have you watched the special episode before the first? I didn’t, but it might shed some light on the plot.

Well, the answer is YES, IT WAS TOO EARLY. Giant sigh.

tell me more, tell me more!

    1

Sigh. since you’ve opened the floodgates, let me dump it all out:

I really like Lee Jong-seok and Lee Na-young’s acting, but I am very tired of the characters.
I don’t know how Dan-yi can be 37 years in this life and doesn’t have the discernment to see how her ‘dongsaeng’ is in love with her. I mean, “there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother” n all, but come on! The little blurbs from each of them at the end shows that what she feels for Eun-ho is far from sisterly, and I don’t understand why at her big age, she hasn’t tried to explore it. FROM her bloody wedding day, she should have realised that something was up.

I don’t see how Eun-ho can be a whole grown adult who is content to wallow in this unrequited love of his and make no attempt to either move on or be brave and tell her the truth. Ok so he couldn’t tell her because she was married. Assuming she stayed happily married, was he going to moon over her from afar his entire life? What sort of foolishness is that?

Almost half way through and still, no growth/forward movement on both their parts. Why?

And then you have Hae-rin. WHAT SORT OF FOOLISHNESS?!!! Writing love notes and putting it into his bookshelf hoping he will read it someday? WHYYYYYYYYYYY?! Love requires bravery. If you can’t be brave, well, “faint heart never won fair lady (or gentleman).” This isn’t a high school drama. They are all too old to be acting like this.

And I don’t like the second lead because he is so rude (in his interaction with Eun ho and the boss). I don’t know how people think it is okay to act like that – go deliberately poking at what is obviously a sore spot of a bunch of people you don’t know, just because you can.

The chatty intern who should be fired because he hasn’t the first clue about workplace etiquette. And the silly girl who should be fired because she’s not serious in this life. I get that this is a tv show with lots of artistic license, but still.

All in all – i am just very annoyed with the entire cast.

Nope! I expected to like it only for LJS because romantic comedies are usually not very insightful, but the writer is doing an excellent job so far. If the rest of the drama goes just as well, it might end up as one of my favorite dramas this year?

FOX BRIDE STAR ep 4: It\’s me guys, it\’s me. I just can\’t stand Yeo-reum at work. I like her a lot (and the story too) when she\’s doing anything else other than work.

3
1

Seriously. Instead of feeling the pathos of the episode, I just rolled my eyes a lot. And from the preview, the focus of the next week…..that is not how planes work. Seriously. I am not in aviation and even I can tell you that. Why does this have to be a workplace drama?! That’s the thing they suck at! Everything else is great. The romance is slowly firing up, hidden motives and shady characters nem are coming…..whyyyyyyy this gotta be set in a workplace they’re all useless at?

Halfway through FOX BRIDE STAR ep 3, and seriously…HOW HAS HAN YEO-REUM NOT BEEN FIRED YET? If only she were to act mature & sensible and DO HER JOB, then she\’d get the accolades she so craves. Ugh!

I think the problem is me, bc these contemporary Kdrama characters are all doing my head in. Chae Soo-bin in FOX BRIDE STAR. Whyyyyyyy?! Will it kill drama writers to make SENSIBLE female characters?

3

So they’re still using the same template for female characters.
There’s a reason why lately I only watch Sageuk.

    1
    1

Bruh! I was just thinking to myself that I need to go back to my beloved sageuks. Even the tired and repetitive machinations of “evil” concubines in the palace is better than this.

I didn’t like her in episode 1, but episode 2 let me see where she’s coming and understand that there are indeed people like her.
I’m all for her char development.
Writer shouldn’t waste a chae soo bin’s female lead.

TERIUS BEHIND ME, ep2. I\’m trying hard no to be *that* person, I truly am, but these kids really take me outta the story. I don\’t find them cute. I find them immensely silly, and I just can\’t deal.

WHO HASN’T BEEN TAUGHT NOT TO FOLLOW STRANGERS BY AGE 6 NO MATTER WHAT?

AND WHICH IRRESPONSIBLE ADULT LEAVES TWO YOUNG CHILDREN UNSUPERVISED?

I can’t with the adults and the children on this show. Hence I don’t k ow if I can last. 😐😐😐😐😐

Not too many years ago tweens were getting kidnapped around the same neighborhood. They finally got caught because one of the girls actually fought back and escaped…It’s not as common knowledge as you would think…

      3
      1

*I should say fought back at the time of the kidnapping. The others had just gone along.

        2
        1

I am prepared to admit that I am the one in the wrong re the kids’ near-kidnapping, as they’re very young children. But even so, I can’t get over the caretakers irresponsibility. Sigh. I do get that it’s being played up for the comedy angle, but I just can’t deal.

          1
          1

I don’t think that part was being played for comedy. I think it’s just meant to show how fast the neighborhood parents can get organized and the extremes the evil people will go.
It might also be a cultural thing too because from what I’ve heard it’s normal for parents to let children even at that age go unsupervised in public places because there isn’t as high of a fear of kidnapping there as it is in other parts of the world.

The kids are definitely a handful.

Theres this play area / restaurant in my city where kids can play with blocks/playground. Recently they posted a cctv video of a dad playing with handphone while his 3 kids cracked open a plastic showcase box. They broke it & took out the minnie mouse figurine & showed it to the dad! He didnt even register what they did & they left the shop. Its part of a expensive set & they hope the parents will notice the video & return it. They asked that parents to monitor their kids actions…

I enjoy the humour in Terius Behind Me but hyperactive kid exist in real life.

I dont have kids and never had any younger siblings but i’ve seen people with such hyperactive and uncontroble children struggle with their daily life and there are times when they need to take a break, breath some air but the kids ruin the situation.

As long as the kids didnt ruin my cake 😝 i will try to ignore. The embarrassed parents already in an embarrasing situation, can we be a little kind to them.

    0
    2

The point is not “hyperactive kids.” It’s about teaching them simple boundaries. The children weren’t going haywire and screaming the place down or looking in awe and excitement at the foods on display. They went up to the cakes, just grabbing what they wanted. That’s irresponsible upbringing tbh. It’s the parents fault, not the kids’. My very hyper 3yo neice knows not to touch food in stores/public because she’s been taught to not to that. She’ll point and comment and shout and prance around it all day, but she won’t touch it. She’s 3. These twins are 6. I try not to judge people’s parenting, but in this situation, I am failing because I can’t fathom it.

      1
      0

But i love how Ae Rin handles the situation being a mom who knows her kids very well.. no grave mistake goes unpunished. I approve her method for making the kids eat the cakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner and repeat for another day 😂

      1
      1

I agree. She needs to have better control and there wouldn’t be a need for creative discipline.

I was surprised that the food display was open so that people COULD touch it. I’ve never seen anything like that. It seems unsanitary.

Check-in: MR SUNSHINE, ep 20. So much sadness. At this point I’m just waiting for Kim Eun-sook to stomp the pieces of my broken heart into dust and ashes. I have so many thoughts and no hope left.
