The King – Eternal Monarch (cont.) – Raise your hands if you’d love a Eun-Seob/Jo Young spinoff! Shin-jae and Jangmi can tag along too. Loved the grouchy/adorable puppy dynamic going with those four.
#2020DramaSummary
The King – Eternal Monarch: Lots going on here, enough for several shows, really. Seemed like they couldn’t quite decide what to focus on. Woo Do-Hwan stole this show, hands down!
#2020DramaSummary
Crash Landing Into You: Amazing show that’s stayed with me even after finishing. The characters really went on a journey in this & I loved being along for the ride. Hyun-Bin’s a gem.
Mystic Pop-Up Bar (cont.) Also, can I have a Manager Gwi of my own? I would like one, please. He chops onions without complaint (mostly), carries a magical flaming naganata and catches evil spirits.
#2020DramaSummary
Mystic Pop-Up Bar: Wow, this show had it all. Definitely one of my new faves. LOVED the three leads & their little family, the afterlife happenings, the mix of humor, pathos & heart.
The basic premise sounded zany enough to be fun, but honestly I wasn’t expecting it to be such a wonderful show. The story was beautifully told – the way we slowly learned little tidbits of what had happened in Weol-Ju’s life, how deftly each “case” they took on connected emotionally to the three main characters. Though the romance between Weol-Ju and Gwi was unspoken and played in the quietest of ways, in hindsight I think it’s actually one of the deepest and most touching of all dramas – being with her throughout the afterlife was the only thing that mattered to him, whether she ever returned his love or not. And Kang-Bae was such a sweetie, it’s impossible not to root for him. Excellent show.
#2020DramaSummary
While You Were Sleeping – Again, give me Lee Jong-Suk & I’m there. A fantasy premise is just icing, though it ended basically as a straight legal drama. And Jung Hae-in is adorable!
#2020DramaSummary
Live Up to Your Name: One of the best. Loved everything about this – cast, the story, the approach to serious questions with an infusion of heart, maturity, and integrity. KNG = 💖
#2020DramaSummary
My Only Love Song: Absurd in the best possible way. I appreciate a show that makes me laugh and doesn’t take itself too seriously, and this one certainly qualifies for both.
#2020DramaSummary
Oh My Ghostess: Classic for a reason! Great cast, excellent leads – Park Bo-Young does an impressive job playing two characters. One of the more disturbing villains I’ve ever watched
#2020DramaSummary
The Untamed: My name is Maelstrom, and I’m an Untamed-aholic. Seriously, what can I say about this show, in 200 words, that hasn’t already been said? A tough show to let go of.
#2019DramaSummary
Memories of the Alhambra: Oh, Show. Show, Show, Show. You were so close to being something really remarkable, but that ending… it still pisses me off thinking about it now.
#2018DramaSummary
My Horrible Boss: Fantastic, truly a standout. A mature, thoughtful look at life & work with an excellent cast. Watched right after leaving a very toxic job, so very poignant for me.
#2018DramaSummary
Strong Woman Do-Bong Soon: strangely disappointing, despite Park Bo-Young. Also, I’m still disturbed that when the second ML went undercover, he made a prettier woman than I do.
Wow, it’s been too long since I posted anything here. Stupid real life interfering with drama viewing. Thankfully one of the few benefits of 2020 has been more opportunities to get back into Kdramas!
Thanks! 🙂 I’ve still been lurking now and then to keep an eye on which new dramas are worth a look, but it’s been fun to actually watch some again recently!
I haven’t had the time to delve back into Dramaland for the past few months, but here’s hoping 2018 brings the chance to catch up on some of the gems I’ve missed. Suggestions welcome!
Happy New Year!
For 2017- Go Back Couple, Liar and His Lover and Chief Kim, and the currently airing Just Between Lovers
For before that- way too many and I dunno if you have already seen them! 😀
Thanks for the suggestions!! 🙂 I’m still fairly new to dramas (only started watching them last year) so I switch between catching up on past shows and current hits… when real life doesn’t interfere with my drama-viewing schedule. D:
Oh if you are new then you have to watch My Love From the Stars and Pinocchio too! Pinocchio specially is from the same team that made I can Hear Your Voice so you might like it a lot. My other favourites include I Remember You and Answer Me 1997
My Love From the Star is actually the first Kdrama I ever watched, in the summer of 2016. I loved it so much it started me down the road to Kdrama obsession! <3 I've heard good things about Pinocchio too, I'll have to check it out! Thanks again 🙂
I second the suggestions of Go Back Couple, Just Between Lovers, My Love From the Stars, Pinocchio, Shopping King Louis, Reply 1997, and I Remember You. (The other ones are probably good to but I haven’t watched them yet)
In case that’s not enough to keep you busy, I also recommend Seven Day Queen, Healer, Reply 1988, Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, Shut Up Flower Boy Band, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, School 2013, The King Two Hearts, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, Coffee Prince, High School King of Savvy, Fight My Way, and I am Not a Robot.
Sorry for suggesting so many. I have trouble narrowing it down to a few… 😅
Secret Garden (good parts version, by which I mean just the Oska/Tae-Sun storyline)
Yay: Oska and Tae-Sun; Lee Jong-Suk.
Nay: Everything else; the tracksuits, oh man, the tracksuits
School 2013
Yay: The bromance to end all bromances; teachers Jung and Hang; Lee Jong-Suk & Kim Woo-bin.
Nay: Minor quibbles like pacing issues, & female students sidelined a bit.
Healer
Yay: Everything. This show is perfection to me. A masterpiece of characters & storytelling.
Nay: That it ended. Seriously, there isn’t one thing I would change about Healer.

Sadly, that’s the case – though I liked both leads perfectly fine, I found the other characters far more interesting to watch.
