How could I miss this post!

I've been following JB blog since the first post back at wordpress. I have moved in and out 4 different countries since, still I religiously check her blog everyday without fail with whatever means available (Mobile, PC, laptop, free PC available in the airport and once, I even borrowed a stranger Laptop just to get my daily dose of dramabeans) l am sooo going to be called JB creepy stalker by y'all..LOL.

For as long as I remember I always pictured JB as a nerdy person + glasses kinda blogger, it's a surpraise to know that she actually looks really beautiful and fashionable (I want to color my nail blue too) in real life. So thanks Viola for posting the pics. JB and GF..thank you to you both..for posing infront of the camera. You both are so loved by all of us here ^^.

Happy Friday! Been awhile I wrote something here.

Last week I was in Asia and now I am back. Highlight in Seoul was meeting Lee Sun Kyun-he rocks. Friend of a friend had me get an autograph and picture with him. With my paltry Korean I told him I was a big fan from America. My friend and mom were there too. My mom was smiling ear to ear. He was very nice and when my mom spoke English to him he smiled. He wrote my autograph in English and Korean for my friend.

Recovering from a cold and trying to catch up on all the recaps and episodes I missed while in Asia the last 3 weeks.

I love love this website. So thankful to you for having it!

Glad it's taken a good turn. When Han-ni said "I really really like you" to the nicely-turned-out-ex-Robot-boy, I kinda missed Miho a bit.

I plan on following PK till the end, and I really hope JGS does great in his drama, (also that his hairstyle will be better a few episodes in, like You're Beautiful).

Yay! Happy Friday everyone :)

My lappy is sick, so, I only watched bits and pieces of the raw of ep, 13 of S Scandal at the school computer. While at the same time I tried to read the correct subs on notepad......it is truly crack in the worst possible way!

On the bright side now I know the true OTP. I was confused at first since I liked everyone and would be happy with any geometric configuration. But, now I know It's Yummy and Moony! :) I mean Sun Joon and Yoon Hee might end up together because of proximity and convention; but true love, be it platonic or romantic, is Yummy and Moony.

That scene between MJS and YH killed me; seeing that ever smiling Yummy cry did something terrible to my heart. I didn't realize until I got some funny looks, that I was chanting 'uljima ne sarang, uljima, uljima" at the screen. I didn't even know I knew that phrase. :(

I just have to say, this made my morning. I've yet to watch kdramas in public (or seen this episode yet - I'm behind on SKKS T_T), but I can definitely relate to using Korean phrases unconsciously while watching an addictive drama I love. Or randomly in real life. I didn't realize how many Koreans lived in my area until I started picking out the conversations in Korean around me. It's like watching all these dramas is rewiring my brain and telling me I need to break down and learn Korean for real. ^_^

Keyle I would be careful about listening to the conversation though....my younger twin sister, Lahlita, was shamelessly eavesdropping on a Korean conversation and cried out "andawe!" at the most inopportune time. She freaked out the person even more by apologizing in Korean before running out! ;)

Lahlita is taking a break from the internet until November, I miss her and her craziness too. Poor Mister Lahlita :)

Nooo there were no Korean people nearby! Even though lately it seems like I inherited her little demon, as related to my S Scandal pairings, I think I am not yet as bad as her ;)

"Doctor Champ" is going the way of "Prosecutor Princess"!! Why do they have to make my beloved "Kim So Yeon" another "Codependent" lead girl that needs to be praise by a particular "stupid" bad attitude Doctor in order for her to feel good about her self?

And SKKS, do not get me started like I said before I like most of the story , the "Gay" undertones is not what I was hopping for at the end is just a ploy to create tension in the show but is not about showing "homosexuality " in a more proper light , thus reminding us the Korea still a "Homophone' country and that is something that personally will not condone!!!!

Happy Friday Yall!!!!!!

I think all countries are 'homophone'. We may be more accepting, but gay marriage is still only allowed in certain states (and look at the recent suicide of that student at Rutgers).

As for portrayals of gay men in kdramas- i thought Personal Taste did a somewhat decent job with the character, Do Bin. Though homosexuality is used as a plot device, we get some serious and realistic moments with this gay character to contrast the stereotype portrayed by the main character's best friend.

I agree... i'm taking philosophy in college and we're studying the ethics of gay marriage... you would be surprised how much debate and divide in opinions there is in the class about whether or not it's ethical.
people are learning to accept but even in the US, it's still taking baby steps... it's quite sad but still encouraging at teh same time

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but there have been two gay partnerships in my family for decades, and it is a highly religious and conservative family, overall.

The first, my brother-out-law (he's my brother-in-law's brother, whom we all grew up around) and his husband have been together for 23 years, not that that is forever, but, you know, it's a long time in any relationship. They are great guys, love them both dearly, they are awesome to my kids, they are so easy-going with anyone who 'hates' on them, not militant at all, and I think they set an amazing example for others in the graceful way they have lived together for decades. (Just, don't be around when they fight, like all married couples!) They were married by a gay priest and of course, it is not legally recognized, but they consider that unimportant and have found ways around all loopholes (living wills, for instance, who name each other as next-of-kin).

When I married my husband, he said one cousin would not be at his wedding, I asked why, because she's a lesbian and on outs with the family. After talking over with my in-laws for the next few years, and the death of the grandmother of the family, my in-laws invited her and her 'new-at-the-time' partner to come for the funeral and stay at their house along with us, as they knew we weren't going to be awkward with the situation. Again, my kids gained these two wonderful people in their lives, and for the last 14 years, they've been solid family members. They've divorced (they did get married legally), now, since last winter, and it is sad for all of us. I sent a birthday card to my cousin-in-law's ex, and she called, surprised that I'd keep in contact. Well, geez, I know they're divorced, but since when am I going to suddenly act like I don't know her after 14 years?

So many, many family members of mine believe strongly against these two relationships, and I say, just take care of your own life and treat others with respect. You're never going to agree with everyone's lifestyle, about what is right or wrong, but, please, stop judging and live graciously and in forgiveness, because you're not perfect, either. Sometimes that doesn't go over very well, and I have Catholicism thrust in my face a lot about this, but well, I think it is not for me to sort out.

I think I can do a better job of showing others how to live in gracious understanding and respect than I can in telling others how I think they ought to live and what they ought to believe. If you think homosexuality is a sin or wrong, or whether you think it is perfectly normal and acceptable and all ranges in between, then I respect that you think that way. I don't get people hating people for hating homosexuality, which makes them hypocrites, and I don't get hating homosexuality, and I don't get forcing someone to change because I think they are wrong. I don't think you can force tolerance anymore than you can force open-mindedness or love or hate.

I dislike when homosexuality is used as a plot device, honestly. If it is an honest relationship in the story, then fine.

**By "you", I'm not referring to a single person who exists on this blog!!

Life is Beautiful is amazingly good considering the family show
constaints. Good writing and produced in Korea. I think that is pretty amazing. Most shows in the US play gays totally for laughs and "distancing". Political power is a slow change everywhere. All people want the same things in their own lives, peace and prosperity and love.

My family kind of went through something similar with my little sister... not viola or lahlita, but the one that actually lives and breathes with us. She came out when she was 18, and my very Southern Baptist parents weren't entirely thrilled, but it wasn't a huge surprise on anyone's part. As my very Southern Baptist parents adopted all of us (we were all 'hard to place' children), we had some very 'helpful' church members remind them that it wasn't their fault because we weren't genetically related, and since she was taken in when she was older they tried to 'blame' the orphanage she lived in before she came to live with us. My dad then decided to point out that using that logic also meant that he couldn't claim any credit in my college degrees or my brother's artistic talent... and said that he would accept criticism on his children as soon as those other parents would accept it on their own. And anyway, Jesus Christ Himself never said a single word about homosexuality, and it wasn't because some Romans weren't getting their freak on.

I think my parents were more upset about her being gay because they didn't want her to go through any extra hardship in life, not because they were concerned that God would stop loving her. Or at least, I hope that was the reasoning behind it. As my little sister went back to the country she grew up in (where she works in the American embassy as an English translator), and we don't get to see her all that frequently, it isn't something that is at the top of our discussions when she comes home.

Regardless, it doesn't take up a lot of my thinking time. I don't know why, but we never just really talk about it as an issue. I figure if she wants to talk to me about it, she will. She'll complain about this or that girlfriend, or get present advice or romantic idea sharing time. It's really hard for me to think about it as an issue, it's just part of her. Sometimes I think that if I had met the right girl, would I have been gay?

Brookeeve you are absolutely awesome!
The hyper awareness about orientation that permeates American culture, hampers understanding in some way I think.
No one is going to designate southeast Asia as the most liberated culture, but the normal behavior between guys there would be seen as deeply homoerotic here.
I mean I saw grown men walk around holding hands, dancing together ( I mean really getting it on), sharing the same bed as if it's nothing, casual skinship like walking with their arms around each other and generally being unaware that what they are doing might be considered "gay."
Which is completely different from the atmosphere here in the states. A group of my friends went on a trip together, and my two straight guy friends made such a fuss about sharing the same bed, cause they thought it was too "gay."
What I am trying to say is that, "oh they are gay, must treat them with special respect" mentality, while very well intentioned is ultimately alienating because Special is just another form of saying Other.
My best friend from high school is gay; I don't consciously think that since he is gay I must be super sensitive to his feelings. I just treat him like I treat all my friends, with lots of teasing and heaping doses of irreverence. :) Being gay is only a part of who he is, and I don't choose to define the whole of him by a single part :)

p.s. Brookeve How hilarious is it that when you mentioned your sister, you also needed to add "not Viola or Lahlita" that cracked me up :)

It's my first time on here. Hope everyone here has a great Friday/weekend. ^^
I need to learn how to balance my addiction to watching shows. Once I get into one I have to watch all of it until there is no more to watch and mind you besides korea dramas--which are an hour a piece--I get into American shows when they've already finished airing or have at least three seasons waiting to be watched. Right now I've been alright since I haven't found much that's caught my interest and I'm already caught up to all my current shows but I just pray it stays that way until tuesday afternoon. I have two exams and two papers due that day and god know what else is going to come up and surprise me. Blargh.

On a side note I'm almost done with my application to do an exchange program in the spring to go back to Korea again. Gah I'm soo excited. ^^

Hi and welcome!
OT is basically the place to talk about anything and everything with like minded people. Each OT is different and the conversation can go in truly unpredictable directions. OT 143 was quite epic, with a bolywood style K dramas, poetry, Choi Si won's six pack of death and various other craziness.
Don't be intimidated by all the zaniness, everyone here is truly, madly (emphasis on the mad) nice. I have been known to throw around "kindred spirts" a lot to describe the atmosphere. :)
I am predicting that this OT will have a lot of talk about Sunkyungwon Scandal so in order to follow the convo you need to know the following:

Smarty faction is the Sun Joon fans
Moony faction is the Moon Jae Shin fans
Yummy faction is the Yong fans

I hope you have a great time in OT :)

I have been watching K-drama for a year or two now but the only shows I have watched raw in all that time are SKKS and PK. LOVE them! I really do wish the ratings had been higher and I am hoping for a time jump in the final epi so that hopefully Duckie and one of Ha-ni's friends has a chance to hook up. I think he and the hairstylist to be would be a cute couple! Or someone new would be fine too but please give Duckie a love of his own. ****SPOILER ALERT*****My one complaint about PK was that they needed to open Ha-Ni's eyes about Duckie way sooner than they did. Same with the sunbae that she dated in one episode! Why not bring him in right away and let us see some jealousy from Robot Boy? Otherwise I love the show.

Should I watch Dr. Champ?? I've never watched a medical drama before. Actually there's a lot I haven't seen.. (only started watching dramas two months ago.)

I'm watching about four at the moment so my brain is filled with SKKS - M, the newly awesome Seung-jo aka ex-Robot Boy, the Hoi-Hoi couple and Hyun-soo and Jung-in from Smile, You (only 20 episodes to go! haha.)

Ah, I'm in kdrama heaven right now. :)

hehehe i agree that dr. champ had very little hype going in, but it's trucking along nicely balanced. i find it entertaining and light. =)

it's hard to believe it now but SKKS was also a project that people were indifferent to or plain skeptical of.

you hear words like "joseon F4" "micky yoochun" "idol" "campus drama" "fusion sageuk" and people didn't know what to make of it.

luckily, it has been THE most pleasant surprise of the year. =)

Dr. champ is a Sports/medical/Romance/comedy/drama with an emphasis on all of them. I honestly thought it was impossible to cover so many genre in one show but alas here we are and it is fantastic. LOTS of eye candy for the ladies is also a plus but even if it wasn't there the show would not be lacking in any way.

I'm can't wait till 6 o'clock (in 7 hours), when I'll be back home and be able to pass out after a loooooong and stressful week! My heart is actually pounding with anticipation!

(and I'm sad that new episodes of Bones and Fringe won't come on until Nov. 4. I need my Thursday shows to get me through the week. I was out of my mind this week and knowing that I could watch them yesterday night with a click of the remote kept me sane).

Oh Wow..Fringe! I love love the first season, but the 2nd season is somehow less interesing (well, to me that is). How do I put this..the show is becoming too ambitious? I'm still gonna watch it through the end (is our Olivia ever going back to our world? I totally miss her being with both old and young walters..). I've stopped watching bones after they made Zack somewhat a serial killer's apperentice, (WTH) and moved in with The Mentalist and Blue Blood (what's with me and police's stories?..it's a loooong story..lol!)

Anyone watching Better of Ted? The company ad cracks me up every single time.

On Kdrama front, SKKS is love!!

I discovered Bones after the 3rd season aired so I didn't have to go through investing 2.5 years into Zack's character only to go "wtf?!". I watched season 1 in like a week, then went on wikipedia to read stuff about Bones, and that's is when I found out about what they did with adorable Zack! I refused to watch season 3. It's disappointing that there were a few guest actors that were in season 3 that I wanted to see...but season 3 is dead to me.

I am actually loving this current season of Fringe. They are becoming really ambitious with the show and I can see it falling apart at any moment- but, imo, they haven't fallen apart yet! It's a tightrope walk for each episode- can they pull it off tonight? yes? whew! I miss our Olivia! When I first started Fringe, I thought Anna Torv was a pretty blah actress. But this season proved me wrong.

I have a thing for police procedural type shows too. I also catch Castle and Law & Order sometimes.

I love Fringe!le faint! so yesterdays episodes was the last until nov 4th???? oh noes! what ever shall I do?I m totally loving this new season of Fringe. its mindblowing goooooood! I find myself wanting to see our Olivia in the other universe more than seeing our universe with altivia. I do miss their old dynamic and I m,if I may say so, so angry that Peter and no one could figure out that altivia is not Olivia!I mean Peter said she came different but come on!

Yep, me too. At one point, I found myself screamed at my screen "Peter! really dude??!!!". I refused to acknowledge any form of intimacy (even if it's a mere lingering looks..) between him and altivia! my loyalty stays with Olivia..tee hee

Love Anna torv. I saw her interview in Letterman and realised she's not olivia..*sad*. Wanted her so much to be as cool as olivia *sigh*

0

yeah I'm more into the alt. universe episodes. There is just something so compelling about our Olivia being brainwashed into BEING Alt-Livia than Alt-Livia IMPERSONATING Olivia. Just that extra layer of messing with perception and reality. I hate Alt-Livia for laying her dirty hands on Peter! I can sort of see how no one can figure out that Olivia is Alt-livia. Them switching places is mindblowing even amongst all those other strange Fringe events. And furthermore, you only see what you expect to see. Spontaneously exploding heads and hybrid monsters- yes, it's all in a day's work. Olivia not being Olivia- no. He has no reason to suspect Olivia. (But I really want the characters to keep pointing out how "Olivia" is different now just to see Alt-livia squirm! That biatch! I want to tear out her hair!)

SKKS just makes me swwwooooonnn. I ve never fallen head over heels for the 2nd lead before and I dont know if I can prepare myself for the coming heartbreak! Whhhy cant she love him?Whhyyyy?

I gave up the battle, now I am just shipping everyone with each other! This is valid according to the alternate world theory, since it's quite possible that in any of the thousands of worlds different choices were made and different pairing takes place. Just don't think too hard about it, since we are talking about a fantasy of the past, set in a fantasy alternate world. Talk about a whole new level of meta! :)

It would be nice to see guys talk about dramas like we do.

It would be awesome if there are guys commenting in the OTs. Yea, I don't think the drama world is a girls only domain, it should be unisex. But, then, why don't we see any guys commenting on Dramabeans regularly?

Such a gender cliché.

Um.. Mary Stayed Out All Night is replacing Sungkyunkwan Scandal, correct?

What's replacing Playful Kiss?

Ep 14 teaser had me rolling in my bed and laughing like a maniac at 4 in the morning. I am confused like that so no hard feelings to the dedicated fans of each faction!!!

Trying to keep myself awake (caffiene doesn't work in it's many forms so it's all will-power) to finish up an assignment due at noon for a three hour class before I can come back and sleep for an hour or two before the next event.

Must. Stay. Awake.

On the Kdrama note I finally finished Sandglass and have started up All In so I can say I've watched the classics. However, Coffee House and a few others are on my list from dramafever (I've gotten amazingly lazy about any downloading now).

I sympathize with the sleep issues. I work odd hours and for long periods of time. Here is my personal lesson plan.(note: not a doctor, so do at your own risk!)

How to stay awake lesson 1:

Espresso Truffle from Godiva. followed with a double espresso with a tablespoon of chocolate syrup. The crash is enormous but the buzz is enough to keep most up for an additional 3 hrs no matter what condition you started out in.

Lesson 2:
Roughage and more roughage. All manner of green leafy things with no carbs what so ever. If you know you have 3 days or more to stay awake, you are obviously some form of masochist or drama addict. The green leafys tend to keep me up on wires with little to know crashes at all. lots of vitamins as well.

lesson 3:
power naps. Sleep 15 minutes. Any more than that and you r body will try to go into a deep sleep and you start off worse than you had it before. but with 15 minutes under your belt you can by and extra 2-4 hours of functionality.

WOW drops, found at pharmacies, two on the tongue and you will be awake. They have some essential oils in them, and I found out about them when I had to stay up all night to monitor my Baby Girl and could not 'do' caffeine due to my heart condition.

I'm serious, they perk you right up and can be used over and over. No prescription, not a gimmick, and not harmful (a nurse is the one who told me to get them, in fact).

I am exhausted and super busy.

Haven't had time to watch anything this week (except for having the tv on to whatever American tv show I happen to watch at that time on that night--even though I wasn't paying much attention) because of schoolwork and all the research I'm doing for my NaNoWriMo novel.

Ugh. I have a feeling November is going to be even worse. I am going to be running between classes, doing assignments, and writing a 50 thousand word (minimum) story. Though it definitely won't be anywhere near finished by the end of the month even if I do hit 50k words.

I hope I can find some time to relax before the end of the month and that the month of November won't be as bad as I think it will be.

For Viola, and others, as promised, sorry, Thundie, for missing your contest with this (although it was not needed!).

Burn

You bump my ribs with juicy-dripped lips upturned
My condescension glared on you, commoner, but inside I burned
A brush of hands to grab my bag which lay in the dirt
Disgusted at this base encounter, still, did some part in my chest spurt?
You grab for me when rug-rats knock you about
I knock your hand aside and send you sprawling out
Day One, rushed and chaotic, we've collided
An annoyance in this rustic place, I've decided.

You demand your jin sang pe and grab my bag to learn
if it has landed there, but we tug-of-war and get upturned
Zap! inside my hands now lays this small soft face
Cradled from a knock, the dirt, what I cannot place
Our bodies so twisted and now connected
I was being a nobleman and a girl protected
Or is this rushing noise in my body aware, clear
That every nerve is ignoring your low-ness, now near?

Day Two finds you pushing off my chest
to untangle our limbs from this wrestled mess
Day Three finds me and my troublesome bag
Rooming in your stores and your tongue does wag
"what if my jin sang pe is here?" and rushing to find out
I push you back, you shove my bag and my lips spout
"Someone as lowly as you should not touch this body"
But inside I'm getting used to it, though it's twisted and knotty

"Goldfish!" "Thief!" "Commoner!" "Exile"
Still, with back turned, I smirk and I smile
Suddenly this secret assignment and faux banishment
Has shifted from annoyance to a true punishment
You fall in love and I watch you live for another man
I can brush off any feelings, at least, that is my plan
And so it goes as life on the island slowly turns
Your touchless touches touch me in places that make me burn.

Emotions for a commoner, those I spurn
I, Park Kyu, knows how the world should turn
For sweet-lipped innocence I will not yearn
I will uphold the law and to Seoul adjourn
Untouched, untouchable, I have not earned
your love, yet, but inside, I've burned.

*****

So, it could have been improved if I'd spent more than a few minutes on it, but it was just something that came to mind about unspoken physical responses to all that contact early in Tamna Island and the chain of reactions it set off in Park Kyu.!!! I went off and wrote it in about 20 minutes and meant to get back to edit it and put it up on Thundie's competition. Oh, well!

I had a feeling you would like that drama. I saw the 21 episode version and loved it. I'm rewatching it with my hubby. LOL he can do a good imitation of Bojin's little walk and also the voice when she says Kiyandari or Illiam :D LOL he cracks me up each time. It's hysterical to watch (he's 6ft tall and his normal voice is very deep) He's just a fabulous mimic. He can do anyone's voice. I told him that he was born to be a comedian. This little ditty goes out to Leonardswench and all those that can't sit through Fugitive:plan Bi for various reasons. Episode 6 highlights and i don't see any true spoilers as much as action sequences. Enjoy!

NO problem. I know it is hard to get that hotness fix when the mute "breaks" on you. Also the last sequence of the video I thought was humorous enough to spark the funny bone of most people if they watch the show or not.

I shot myself in the foot, there, didn't I? I knew better, I did, I really, truly did, and now it is SO hard to watch any episodes. I wanted to like this, didn't think I would, but I wanted to like it for all the WOWZER hot male yumminess going on ...

I mean, Daniel Henney. No, he can't act very well, but he's like the cream cheese on a bagel. Not good for you, but sublime on the lips and going straight to your hips!

Rain/Bi/whatever-his-name-is-this-year (Prince, much??), too. I'd like to do my laundry on his washboard abs, sure, but I'm not sure he can't act his way out of his own tee shirt, good thing he's shirtless so much.

And both of those boys, geez, the balance of ovary-bursting testosterone in their assets alone could send earth off-kilter.

So, there's Lee Jung-jin, and he, you know, SMOULDERS, as in flames in the pit of ... you know, feminine regions we won't allude to (tic), and he can act!!!

Sigh. It's an imperfect blend, and if I just didn't take it off MUTE I'd be fine. My daughter promises to watch future episodes and diligently mute any dialogue that is NOT LJJ. :) She's the best!

One girl who keeps smiling like she got hit with laughing gas at the end and the other who protests way to much over something she could have avoided but fights to keep happening. Seriously I giggle at this. :)

I'll do what I can to make more vids for this one.

I love Rain!!! I don't care what he's doing, I will sit and watch it with wiggle eyes (you know how little anime characters watch their object of affection, and their eyes wiggle?)!

The only person in this world that I love more than Rain is TOP. But you all knew that already.

Diadda, I feel like I am taking advantage of your talents when you show me all these awesome videos. I wish that I could repay you, but I've already given my step-son to Lahlita for her niece, and Viola has claimed all of "MY" white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. I'm not sure what I have left to bribe you to make more!

I think I can l consent to sharing some of the white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, it is after all Diadda, the god-empress of pervy vids and dirty lyrics! :)

Bribes are not needed! They are for fun alone and I make them as the mood strikes me. It strikes me often as you can see, so I have plenty to share.

Besides most of the editing is done in less than an hour. The really long part is the upload, so I am never put out by any of it.

hey guys! having a drama crisis. the first time in 6 years, since i discovered them, that they're not completely taking me over. it's really strange, kinda disorienting.

what do you guys do when you feel like you really can't take life anymore? when everything is just blah and mildly painful, all the time?

My recommendations:

1. When having a drama crisis: stop watching. Just view k-drama land through DB.

2. When life is blah & mildly painful: exercise, maximize your beauty routine (scrubs, masks, facials), lots of romantic novels --- the trashier the better, big doze of your fave food, sleep. If you have the time and the money: travel somewhere on your own. Sometimes a big slump requires a big jolt.

Have you tried watching S scandal? It totally perks you right up! I kinda got drama fatigue after watching dramas nonstop for 2 years straight, but S Scandal is a total game changer. :)

I think perhaps you need some change in routine, perhaps a vacation? :)

:3 thanks. since it's over halfway, and seeing how addicted and pining a bunch of my friends are, i thought i'd wait til it's done. i felt like something predictable and old-skool, so i'm trying the first ep of super rookie. old faces keep popping up! the Rational Psycho girl from Spring Waltz! monae from Soulmate! it's pretty entertaining so far. i just... miss the time when i'd fall far enough into shows for it to heal so many wounds.

Hi all!!

just wanted to give a brief update on OT baby #2 :)
i'm 19 weeks along. will have my ultrasound next week. i haven't decided if i want to find out the gender of the baby yet. so i think i'll have the tech put the gender in an envelope and if i decide later on that i wanna know, i'll open it up and plan from there. but i think for now, i'm fine not knowing. My appt last week presented me with a strong heartbeat at 170 beats per minute. SO EXCITED!!

i know i'm behind, but i am slowly trying to finish MGiaG as i've been hung up on a thai lakorn(drama) Wanida. PK is next on my list when i finish MGiaG and Wanida. :)

and then i'm eager to see Mary Stayed out All Night. can't wait for MGY and JGS together!! and added bonus KJW.

Awww, baby heartbeats!!!!!!!

It can be so fun not knowing the gender!!!! I didn't know with my first, and it was very exciting to guess. :)

We're being inundated with good dramas this year, so I think we are all behind a little (LOT!) :)

Hell all! I would like to vent for a few minutes - you may skip this post, but I thought of all places, this would be the one site I could vent and not get death threats. I'd like to copy some of my favorite dramabeans recappers and use their format:

Dear Korean Entertainment Industry(KEI),

This is a formal letter to inform you that you have been placed on probation by M.E. due to the following reasons:

1. Lack of Quality
There have been a few dramas over the years(since 2005 when the industry was brought to my attention) that have avoided the cliches, the stupid slapstick humor, and pretty actors that can't act, that have delivered a solid, wonderfully nuanced story, yet you consistently continue to hype up subpar romcom dramas. For example: Painter in the Wind, Return of Iljimae, Story of a Man, Tanma, Flowers for My Life, Que Sera Sera were fantastic in story & acting, yet there was more hype over shows like Boys Over Flower where there's more bad acting than good, more pretty than quality. Their are more dramas filled with bad actors who look pretty, then there are good quality acting and appearances. In fact, some could say that having a pretty actor instead of having a good actor is your norm. For example: Kim Tae Hee, Song Seung Hyun, Kim Hyun Joon, Idol singers.

2. Lack of Creativity
Where are the murder mysteries? Comedies? Bromances? Group series? Multiseason dramas? So far, all I've seen are romantic comedies or tragic romances. The non-romance dramas are waaaaayyyy too few and lack proper strategic marketing to expose them to a wider audience. And too - most of the romcom or tragiroms have the following SAME cliches: jerk of guy/girl who really has a heart of gold; guy grabbing girl; back hug, piggyback ride, the gauche guy/girl whose quirks grow on the other person, illegitimate sons/rarely daughters, the cranky but wise elder; noble guy/girl breaking up with girl/guy for their own good and never talking about the problem as a couple after they have become a couple!!!; the perfect second lead guy; selfish second lead girl who lies to break up or prevent the couple from getting together in the first place.

3. The Perfect Guy/Girl gets Butkis - Why why why, KEI, does the perfect second lead always get shafted?!?! What rule says that the lead couple have to end up together? Why?? They are often times more compelling and intriguing and overall better than the main character and they get totally shafted!! That sucks! And its cliche! And it SUCKS!

Please note that by being placed on probation means lack of attention, patience, and tolerance. You may make the following alterations in order to correct this situation:

1. Cast better actors!
2. Work with completed sripts for a better story.
3. Make sure actors are age appropriate(a 20something person is usually not a powerful CEO or detective on an the police force) -prodigies are the exceptions, not the rule.
4. Take a few risks & be open to different stories.

It is my hope that by placing you on probation, you will be able to turn it around and really live up to your potential.

Sincerely,

B020

I find it hilarious that you said "Idol Singers" instead of individual people, lol. Are all Idol Singers that horrible?

Required fields are marked *

I am so with you.Too many rich twentysomethings
and dumb noble females. CLICHES are required in Kdrama?
.... obviously idol casting is no sure thing for ratings.
And my biggest peeve is the unfinished (poor) scripts.
Cinderella stories have always been popular but variety
matters too. I read that Koreans dont like overseas shoots
because they can't identify with foriegn locals.....lower ratings for Rain? Does anyone agree?

Where can I obtain the beautiful and captivating background scores of Sungkyunkwan Scandal? I don't care about getting a copy of the drama itself, I NEED MY INSTRUMENTAL FIX!

I've always, always been a fan of INSTRUMENTALS, I was like crying when I watched the GOONG special where they play all the scores used in the drama, it was FANTASTIC TO THE NTH DEGREE.

Please? Chae ball.. Anyone, where can I download the background scores? :(

The OST has several of the instrumentals. I'm particularly fond of 유생들의 나날 which sounds a lot like a gavotte.
