Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

mary

Designated Survivor: 60 Days: Episode 4 is my favorite yet, mostly because it’s 60 minutes long (short!) and we finally get more of Weasel Oppa aka Lee Jun-hyuk who seems to have flipped roles again and is playing a shady guy this time around. I can’t wait to see him manipulate public sentiment to steal the limelight from our nerdy president who can barely even inspire confidence from his own staff. And though I hate watching shows where clueless, honest people fight a losing battle because their enemies are unprincipled, smart crooks, I love watching a good, twisty fight even more. So bring on the roller coaster, 60 Days.

Angel’s Last Mission: Love: Y’know, last week I kept thinking that this show is like your classic rom-com from a decade ago: cute premise, not-so-good execution, chaebol with a nasty temper, love interest with the patience of an angel (literally) to change said temper, horrible extended family trying to steal the company, and a last minute happy ending that doesn’t make sense. If this aired in 2005, it would’ve been a hit. The second lead girl is even likeable! You don’t see that a lot, even now. But it’s a decade too late to be original. I don’t want to hate on the show though, because I like that the “frosty heir” who needed intervention was a lady, and amazingly acted at that. I can name a dozen meh shows I’ve watched for an Oppa, but we don’t get a lot of them for Unnis in dramaland, because they’re not always given this huge a spotlight or role to work with. So I’m glad this show exists, because Shin Hye-sun’s Yeon-seo was perfection. (I was honestly a bit scared when she kneeled in front of the altar and challenged God with such haughtiness!) I think we can all agree that we watched it for her. Though I still don’t understand that ending LOL and I’ll peep the final recap comments for answers.

Lookout: Oh man, I’m just at that part where the episode ends on Do-han smirking in Yoon Seung-ro’s face after getting him to contact Detective Nam and putting their evil deeds on record. Do-han looks unhinged and I’m screaming IT’S TOO EARLY TO GLOAT!!! First of all, Yoon Seung-ro isn’t in jail yet. Secondly, Detective Nam hasn’t agreed to be a witness yet. And most importantly, there are five episodes left, so obviously Yoon Seung-ro isn’t gonna go down easy. That’s like, basic K-drama logic. Genius lawyer and master manipulator he may be, but my K-drama wisdom beats Do-han this time.

missvictrix

One Spring Night: It’s over. *moment of silence* But it was such a lovely drama, and came to such a beautiful conclusion! I’m entirely satisfied. I was nervous for a little while there (as were a lot of people with Pretty Noona PTSD), especially towards the last few episodes, but in the end I’m glad I trusted this story. The good-hearted people found their strength and faced their obstacles with honesty and maturity. And the jerks of the drama? I got a kick out of them getting drunk together in the middle of the day, blaming each other for their problems as a way to save their egos. I won’t miss them, but I will miss our lovely couple, Jung-in’s sisters (that group hug!), Ji-ho’s parents that made me teary the whole drama long, and of course, little Eun-woo.

If We Were a Season: Based on recent Beanie recommendations, I watched this lovely one-episode drama that totally flew under my drama radar back in 2017. Chae Soo-bin and Jang Dong-yoon were lovely here, and the drama told a well-crafted story for only an hour long tale. While I could have easily taken another 15 hours tacked onto that, to quote Jane Austen it was “perfect in being too short.” I wanted more — but I actually like that feeling for a change.

Currently watching
One Spring Night: It ended as quietly and beautifully as I hoped. I think the last minute conflict really helped our couple realize that after all the fuss died down, all that mattered was their own relationship. And everyone who sucked had their appropriate comeuppance.

Search WWW: I feel as though the tension has died down a little. Now I just want everyone to be happy regardless of which search engine is number 1. Actually, that's a lie. Go Barro!

I'm looking for a new show to watch. Perfume put a bad taste in my mouth (get it?) and I found Chief of Staff rather dull. I'm also not ready to return to our overly cutesy Designated Survivor yet. Sigh :(

Hi @impishishere, Mrs. Yoo Ah In. Would you please tell Mr. Yoo Ah In that I really enjoyed his performance in CHICAGO TYPEWRITER (what about you Mrs. Y?). That I am pleased his critically acclaimed film BURNING (2018) is now available on Netflix USA and that I eagerly await his return to television drama. Thank you.

How far did you watch Perfume? I also found the 1st hour weird-ish but it does get better with each episode. The drama is about second chances, if you could give it a second chance you might find this a delightful surprise.

HISTORY 3: TRAPPED: I was definitely far from impressed with this episode. The acting was quite bad. And everything is just conveniently coming together and none of it making much sense. (ep. 17)

So late to this post today. I love sitting down with a cup of coffee and reading what everyone is watching.

One Spring Night: I am going to miss this show. I found it really satisfying, especially seeing Seo Jin looking so peaceful at the end. Talking about seasons and shows this one felt like a show I should be watching in the fall.

The Secret Life of My Secretary: This however was a summer romcom. Can we agree that Dae-joo's mom was an idiot? One thing I really enjoyed was how open the hero was to being loved. He tried to be cold but was not good at it at all, lol.

Goong: this hero however is good at it. Just when I think he is softening up he has to say something mean.....and then stomp off with his teddy bear. Yoon Eun-hye is delightful in this. I feel like somehow there is an E True Hollywood Story in her career trajectory.

5-ji Kara 9-ji Made: ended up having more affection for the monk than I thought I would. Things got tied up a little too neatly, but only 10 eps. Now thinking I'm going to try In Hand again.

Le Coup de Foudre: I was so hoping that teenage Hao Wuyi would not fall for Zhao Guanchao. I'm going to need some comeuppance on her behalf. He better fall hard.

Theory of Love: finally the break has happened and tables are turned. Now to wait for subs for today's ep.

Before We Get Married need to watch the newest ep. I hope for some forward momentum.

Too many shows right now, but going into fall thinking of adding one of those long weekender family shows to dip in and out of. Cant decide between Five Enough or Ojakgyo Family.

Love Affairs in the Afternoon - Gave me a "On the Way to the Airport" vibes.

Level-up - I've never quite get the fuss about Sung Hoon and he is quite stiff here but I've always wanted to see Han Bo Reum in more dramas. The first episode had me laughing so hard.

Nokdu Flower - I was this close, *this close, to getting a bean, but I just couldn't power through the last 8 episode. I'm sorry.

Before We Get Married - Sigh, Taiwanese dramas still using tropes of 20 years ago. It's very cringey, lacks creativity in the dialogs and ML seems like a stalker/pervert.

Angel's Last Mission: Love - I loved the ending. This, for me, was good drama from beginning until end.

Designated Survivor (original American version) - So I've been watching this over the past month before I found out there was a Korean remake. Is anyone else watching this before the Korean one, or concurrently?? Anyway. Started season 3 yesterday and I just want my ships to happen but s3e1 was like "lol no" aghh frustrating.

Finished up Listening Snow Tower, and was pleased to see that the PD didn't follow the bleak, "everybody kills each other" ending of the novel. I was satisfied with the ending, and the entire drama was a visual feast. The fight scene between the FL and ML in the 12th episode - starting at the 2:27 mark - is one of the most gorgeous martial arts scenes I've ever seen: a stunningly beautiful, balletic battle showing beautiful (fantasy) martial arts skills along with what is clearly a romantic courtship dance, and I could watch it a thousand times. I highly recommend this drama. Buckets of blood spitting though!

Currently am watching and loving The Untamed, which is based on a BL novel. Like Guardian, there is no overt signs of romance, and both the two MLs and the characters they play are young, and the actors no where near as experienced at nuanced acting as the two actors in Guardian were, but I found and read the entire novel on line, and the drama is very true to the novel so far. I am loving it, and am sorry that only 16 episodes are available at this point. However, like the woman whose Cdrama reviews I watch on youtube, hopefully all 50 or so episodes will air, and it won't get yanked. (I suppose ya'll read about the Chinese BL author getting sentenced to 10 years in prison a few weeks ago, for the allegedly "obscene" nature of her web novel. Yet both this show and Guardian were hugely popular - so why do they keep making dramas based on BL novels if they have to censor the hell out of them?? With the current ban on magic and supernatural elements, I'm seriously worried about the Chinese wuxia dramas, which are my drug of choice)

Looking forward to watching the film Juror Number 8 (based on the true story of SK's first jury trial in 2008), and dramas Watcher (which looks/sounds awesome), Go Go Squid (sounds like something I'll like), and checking out a few of the other new or "coming soon" K and C dramas. Always looking for the next perfect Chinese wuxia drama. And STILL PISSED AS HELL that Viki took down the original Mandarin version of NIF and replaced it with some English dubbed POS.

Also finished up HIStory 3:Trapped, and actually ended up liking it more as it progressed. Sure, it wasn't the greatest drama of all time, and had obviously low production values and a B or C list of actors, but I am 100% behind any projects that depict LGBT relationships, and was happy to see this drama gets very high ratings from fans, and that it was rather charming and sweet, and much-better-than-I-had-expected-after-watching-the-first-few-episodes acting and storyline.

Also finished up My Secret Romance, which took forever to get completely subtitled, and it was totally mediocre, despite the surprisingly hot first few epsiodes. However, I never watched it for the story or acting (I hate romcoms), but solely to drool over Sung Hoon, which is exactly why I will be checking out his new drama, Level Up. Because he's PRETTY!!

Oh, and I also watched - with delighted, horrified fascination at the craptasticness of it - some ridiculous drama on Netflix . Something like, Well Intended Love? I was mostly watching for the good looking leading guy, but after around 10 or 11 episodes, suddenly it's revealed that he's basically a creepy, controlling, lying stalker-type freak, but he CONTINUES TO BE THE ROMANTIC LEAD!! It was just SO WRONG in every way, but I had to keep watching (with lots and lots of FF-ing) because it was just SO BAD! And yet, it's hugely popular, and is coming back for a second season!!! Seriously, what is wrong with women that they think something like that is romantic? The dude intentionally made the FL think she had a terminal disease in order to meet and marry her! In my book, that's an instant break up, no questions asked! I actually enjoyed how bad it was - which is actually sometimes a fun thing!

Your review is spot on - I can't ever recommend this drama, but I did seriously have to keep watching it (as noted, with more FFing than I've ever done in any drama ever), because I couldn't actually believe it was for real! I could never bring myself to either read or watch those 50 Shades of Grey novels/films, but from what I've read about them, aside from the complete lack of understanding of real life BDSM, and the sad vanilla version they apparently show as "hot risky sex stuff," those sound very similar to this drama. I just don't get the popularity of that kind of trash. (OTOH, the best BDSM original M/M novel I've ever read - set in a post-apocalyptic New London, and simply fabulous in every way - is still a free read on line, and the whole vileness of Fifty Shades made me reread the entire series of those stories, which was still an absolute delight to read!)

Oh, and I should add that unlike the "romance" of the seriously unhealthy, DV-like relationship in this bad Kdrama, the writer of the M/M series was a biologist, and her beta was a psychiatric nurse. Therefore, one of the ML was literally a DSMV-defined sociopath (which enabled him to excel at his job of government-sanctioned torture, without having any ethical issues), and the other ML was a tightly controlled, OCD, owner/CEO of a corporation that made a total experience virtual-reality room, and who was very well aware of the danger of having any type of relationship with the sociopathic para-investigator! It was very well done, especially in making it clear that neither of these people were "normal," and that the relationship was not "romantic," but rather, dangerous and risky. And that's what made it such a great read!

I laughed out loud with your impressions about "well intended love" on Netflix.... because, they were my thoughts when I was watching it!!!! lots FF, barely believing how bad it was! But wanted to get to the end, in order to find out!🙄

After finishing Secret Life of My Secretary, I got bored with Kdramas and decided to give Cdramas a chance. I just finished watching Boss and Me, which was adorable and cheesy in a good way and am now reading the book in Chinese :) I've been putting off revising for the HSK Level 5 exam and reading has a great way for me to practice and learn new idioms

Also finished My Amazing Boyfriend 2 and My Little Princess and am becoming a huge fan of Mike! It's so cool how he came to China not knowing any Chinese but makes an effort so that his lip movements match the dubbed words.

I can't believe I was so biased against the dubbing in Cdramas. It might look offputting at times but those voice actors and actresses are mad talented.

My little princess was meh, but I also watched it. Mike is the actor?? I could have never imagined he is not Chinese!!! It is a pity they didn't do it with the original leads, for I loved them, but I watched the first 3 episodes of this one and I like them too... still have to watch "my amazing boyfriend 2".
I am watching now Le coup de foudre. It is even better than Boss and me and my amazing Boyfriend, if I could compare...
I highly recommend you to watch it as well.

In terms of plot, I don't think My Amazing Boyfriend 2 is as good as My Amazing Boyfriend 1. I just prefer Mike's acting to the previous ML, who was really expressionless haha

I also want to watch Story of Ming Lan staring ZYL from Boss and Me. She was the perfect person to play Shan Shan, cute and innocent but not to the point of being annoying.

Watched first episode of Hotel del Luna. I liked it. IU looks amazing. YJG looks. . isn't ugly, but he's not. . . I hate live watching these shows because they almost always disappoint.

It's his chin. I wonder if he got an implant or something because it doesn't fit with his face. Either way, he's already 150% better than Absolute Boyfriend.

Oh...I think you are right. However, I think its more than the chin, his cheeks look to have migrated north. He was one of the very rare people who when they smiled not only did his face light up, the whole world shone (like Zoolander's Magnum). That smile was always anchored on his cheeks...and they've gone.

Sadly in ep01 his micro-expressions that made him so compelling have also diminished. (those are what made him so believable as an actor and held "Circle" together). To me, watching YJG atm is a bit like watching an Elvis impersonator...looks like him and can do some of the expressions...but you can't help noticing they keep falling out of character.

Required fields are marked *

I've given this a ridiculous amount of thought at this point--mainly because I just can't reconcile what I'm seeing with how he's often described. Anyway, I feel like he has too much "face."

There's definitely issue with the cheeks. They're just there. On the side of his face. But oddly separate from the area around his nose and somehow unaffiliated with anything going on with his eyes as well.

If not implants maybe he's getting filler shots or something because his face doesn't really move. I've seen him in stuff when he was younger, so it's definitely a relatively new and unnatural occurence.

@iamcooler
Agreed!

Sadly, I have been noticing this on a number of SK actors. Particularly when they reduce their nose, on the Korean bone structure this just makes massive expanse of cheek. SO...the visual focus goes from their expressive eyes, mouth to their least expressive facial feature....vast expanse of cheek.

In YSG case do you think he would be able to pull off either of these smiles as he currently looks in Hotel DL? (notice where the line of his cheeks are in relation to his smile).

P.S. I never loved these actors because they were just pretty...I wanted to watch them because they could act.

No, but I think he tries. The disconnect between the cheeks and his nose means his eyes don't move when he smiles anymore. Which ultimately takes away the feeling of sincerity in the smile. . . Now that I think about it, I think that's the issue I had with all the talk about his beautiful smile in Absolute Boyfriend. His mouth smiles, but his eyes don't smile with it.

I'd had really been struggling to figure out what it was that seemed off. Thanks for the chat. Now that I know what the issue is, his face didn't distract me nearly as much in Episode 2.

ikr, i know he is super talented but the unnatural face he has is putting me off :(

Manseh, Writer-nim Jung Hyun-min and PD-nim Shin Kyung-soo – and the entire cast and crew of
NOKDU FLOWER! You have outdone yourselves with this riveting, moving account of the Donghak
Peasant Revolution, to use Mungbean General Jeon Bong-joon's word. Your collective commitment to telling this story has rewarded this viewer with a stunning production that packs an emotional punch and authenticity that blows away every other Kdrama I've live-watched this year, and then some.

I initially dreaded watching it because the real-life history is so tragic, but the cast includes so many accomplished actors I couldn't ignore it. There is not one wasted second in the taut, self-assured screenplay. Neither are there overblown “epic” set pieces nor gratuitous emotional manipulation. The script effectively and realistically resolves the arcs of the many individual characters. NOKDU FLOWER has truly raised the bar to stratospheric heights. Thank you from the depths of my heart.

I'm still marinating in the afterglow of a show that never faltered even once en route to the finale. I'll have more to say later, but for now I need to absorb and reflect on what I've watched.

NOKDU FLOWER has blown all of this year's ballyhooed sageuks out of the water, and has done so with an abundance of finesse and restraint. There's no need for pyrotechnics when superlative writing and impeccable directing combine with a stellar cast.

I totally agree with you about the "fighting spirit" of the ordinary people of Korea. Repeatedly I found myself reminded of the Minute Man who "fired the shot heard round the world." The words of Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Concord Hymn" jibe with Yi-kang's assurance to Nokdu that his mission would be remembered -- and continued.

You're most welcome. It's close to home for me, too. ;-)

There's a wonderful line from Emerson's address at the dedication of Daniel Chester French's sculpture of a Minute Man leaving his plow when it was installed near the reconstructed Old North Bridge in Concord in 1875. It leapt off the screen as it reminded me of Beon-gae ["Lightning"]:

"The thunderbolt falls on an inch of ground,
but the light of it fills the horizon."

Pull this next dude's hair up into a sangtu and he and his flintlock musket would look right at home with Beo-deul & the rest of the vanguard. ;-)

@shach,
Do I ever know that feeling of battening the hatches! I've been mentally preparing myself for the finale since the drama was first announced. LOL! I survived MR. SUNSHINE. Barely.

The inevitable attrition was realistically spread out, so we weren't hit over the head with it during the finale. I was pleasantly surprised and relieved that some of uri Donghaks lived to fight another day. It was done well, and very believable. There was mending of fences, along with glimmers of understanding that brought a measure of inner peace to various characters. That felt like the real deal to me. Just deserts were meted out, too -- although not to everyone who warranted them. That also happens in real life.

I think the main factor in my response to the finale was the conviction with which Jeon Bong-joon and his generals approached their mission. All of them drew upon their Donghak faith and walked the talk. I appreciated the spiritual grounding of their patriotism, and their moments of prayer. That was what set them apart from the "civilized" Japanese, who in comparison seemed to venerate the God of War.

@pakalanapikake @kiara @marcusnyc20 @shach it took me a while to find these comments! Since the show stopped being recapped there was only What We’re Watching and OT to catch up with beanies watching NOKDU FLOWER. Are you discussing the finale anywhere?

I finished it two days ago and was blown away. It’s my drama of the year, no, of the last two years.
*MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD*
I watched the final episode twice, once from Yi Kang’s point of view and then, once I had recovered, from Yi Hyun’s point of view. It was a challenging task indeed to give each character a fitting ending, and NOKDU FLOWER certainly achieved that... except I needed a bit more Yi Hyun, because his final decision shocked me to the core. Even though I always knew he would end badly! On rewatching it I saw the signs, but he had worked so hard to convince himself he was right that he had almost convinced ME that he “had gone too far” down the unrepentant villain path.

And oh for justice imparted to traitors. Yi Hyun’s weasel sidekick had the most ironic ending. He had lied so many times that nobody trusted him to help the one time he tried to do good. And I got chills from the death of the traitorous Donghak member. The whispering and whirling camera reminded me of how Judas Iscariot is portrayed in films. Traitors never get a good end.

Oh and I hate Baek Ga, he was always as crooked as his cane.

@wishfultoki, @kiara, @marcusnyc20 bong-soo, @shach,

Aside from some comments in this thread, I don't think I made it over to Open Thread this week. I'm still feeling contemplative -- plus had two other finales this past week that I haven't gotten to yak about yet on their recaps. Meanwhile, I finally got to DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, which I'm enjoying a lot.

I want to rewatch NOKDU, or at least some of the beginning episodes that I've lost track of so I can tie up the strands in my mind. I think I'll understand it a lot better now.

I agree with @kiara about moving the finale discussion to the last recap. That's the most logical place for it. Please tag me from over there when you start posting. Thanks!

WishfulT, I had the exact same thoughts about Kim Ga and Judas Iscariot -- and Hong Ga, who finally tried to do the right thing for once. One reason why I want to rewatch is to refresh my memory about the bad blood between Kim Ga and the rest of the Donghak vanguard. Another is to watch it quickly so I can (hopefully) remember who's who more easily. My random access memory ain't what it used to be.

As for Yi-hyun... you hit the nail on the head. Yoon Si-yoon's portrayal of his nanovacillations was daebak.

I totally agree with you about Master Baek. My heart sank when I watched him gleefully return to his bad old ways. He corrupts nearly everyone he comes in contact with -- except for Yoo-wol.

Laters. ;-)

I don't know why but I always thought YH would end up taking his own life. I even kept imagining YK faltering in killing him and YH pulling the figurative trigger himself at last.

I've been watching stuff in a rather desultory ad hoc way, mostly re-watching many times my fave scenes and many episodes of SLOMS. I can't seem to get tired of it!!!

Caught Hotel Del Luna and what a hoot it was!! Yeo Jin Gu as flailing human is much better than non-robotic robot. IU sparkled and tantalised. It's amazing how the warrior oomph she brought into her role belied her small stature. I was quite transported by the special effects. Not as awesome as Alhambra's but still a treat for the eyes.

The Brightest Star in the Sky - At ep 20, I've finally cottoned on to the fact that the title is referring to the FL and not the ML who is a literal idol 'star'. ML is still something of a jerk although now firmly in love but unwilling to show it. I like that FL remains strong and true to herself, that she is recognised for her ability and has good friends. I like show for giving some background info of the Cmusic industry (which I presume is not too different from the music industry anywhere around the world). I find it more interesting than the real estate industry which is the background for My True Friend, which I dropped.

I struggled to finish Absolute Boredom ... the ending stunned me by being the exact repeat of one of the most hated endings (at least in Beanie-land) ever. Seems show did not understand that Big's finale was a cop out, and so was Marry Me if You Dare, and I know there's probably one more other cop out ending, but I can't recall the show. I didn't think MAB could have made a bad drama even worse by its ending, but it succeeded. It deserves some kind of prize for this!!!

Angel's Last Mission: Love became ridiculous but was still saved by the convincing romance, the ballet and the music. There were some nice moments and a callback that brought some threads together with what was shown in the beginning, so it wasn't a total unthinking mess. Accolades to Shin Hye Sun who carried that show.

My penultimate favourite remains my re-watch of The Secret Life of My Secretary, for it's heartfelt and satisfying healing of the wounded, abandoned child in Do Min Ik to receive some kind of motherly affection at least from Gal Hee, if only grudging acceptance from his adopted mum, and for the raising of a dowdy minion to become the love of his life and a princess in his eyes. And Veronica Park was the most over the top cherry on the cake. Still loving it!!! 😁

Hope all's well with everyone...as usual I'm behind on all currently on air shows except for Arthdal but that's gone off air:-(
Was busy with shifting of homes which is a complete mess but that's a whole another conversation lol...here's what I could get myself to watch:
Watcher: I'm enjoying the show, the older actor and female actor, I'm watching them for first time and they are so good, so I hope this show does well.
Are you human?: Finished though had to fast forward quite a bit to reach the end
Radio Romance: almost reached the end now but it wasn't a smooth watching at all.
Producers: just started this show, and I'm finding it interesting so far.
I'm waiting to watch Rookie Historian... basically, I need something light and fun to watch to offset the bleakness of my reality!

Only watching One Spring Night and Watcher. The latter because I love Seo Kang Joon and so far looks interesting, with promising characters with morally grey intentions. And I am surprised that One Spring Night managed to keep my attention even when the main couple are already together, but it's being a lovely watch with so many emotional moments, I'm loving it till the end. It's a pity that I have only one episode left.
As for the rest, nothing catches my attention. So I'm filling my summer nights with the anime remake of Fruits Basket, which I adored in the past. And it's not disappointing so far :D

Investigation Couple 2 The investigations are pretty messy...

Designated Survivor: 60 Days Son Suk Goo is so good! He deserves a lead role!

Angel's Last Mission: Love This drama should have less episodes. The story was dragged and was ridiculous.

One Spring Night My favourite kind of drama, it's just about people :)

Search Query: WWW After 12 episodes and we still don't know anything about Tammy. Her family? Her friends? They gave more informations about the other characters, it's weird. We didn't escape from childhood plot and connections between some random characters.

Watcher I like it. I like how the 3 characters are connected by their past.

Hotel del Luna I need to see the fist episode.

@kurama,
We have in common, DS:60D and WATCHER and like you I am enjoying both.
Re DS:60D. I have only watched the first two episodes. Thanks for mentioning actor Son Suk Goo. What a great impression he made. I checked out his work on AsianWiki and was surprised by a couple of things:
1. He is 36 years old but has only 8 projects listed. There must be a story there; and
2. I am embarrassed that I did not remember him from his portrayal of David Kim in SUITS. That was a fine Korean remake of an American series that didn't get much beanie love but the few of us that watched enjoyed it. He also made an impression in SUITS as generally a bad guy going toe-to-toe against the character played by Jang Dong-gun.

I binge watched One Spring Night this weekend, reading the recaps here on Dramabeans at the same time (Thank you for great recaps, by the way, in particular @abirdword). I was afraid to watch the drama during its run because I wanted to know how it ends before committing to it. But I must say One Spring Night is great for binge watching because one can fully appreciate every nuance and progression in relationships portrayed in the drama as well as great acting.

Search:WWW Episode 12 - I`m gonna comment on this now in case I forget about it by the time the recap for this episode is up.

One of the many great things about Search:WWW is the depiction of how the internet affects the lives of people in South Korea. This episode is a tribute to what was once such a big influence on the internet; before there was twitter and instagram, there was Cyworld. Almost every citizen in South Korea had an account with this site. Cyworld was a personal blog where an individual could post whatever they wanted. You could see the number of visits you have on your minihompy (short term for Mini Homepage), you could play background music, people comment on your page, etc. K-Celebs were heavy users of Cyworld as well, and I remember back in the day, I would check out Super Junior members' minihompy too on regular basis. Then twitter came. K-Celebs slowly switched to using this platform that can, not only reach its Korean fans, but also connect to their international fanbase. It serves a great purpose to promote themselves to the rest of the world

As Scarlett stated: My Homepage wasn't terminated by Kevin. Our era did.

Time changed, and unfortunately Cyworld couldn't keep up with what its users wanted for change. One way or another, I guess Twitter, Instagram, Facebook will be replaced by new platforms too just like how Xanga, MySpace, Cyworld are no where to be found in this day and age.

Wow @13infamyss I like reading your insight.
Agree, that someday, twitter, instagram & facebook will be replaced by new platform.
First, I didn't understand why closing My Homepage would affect greatly on Barro. I was asking myself, 'Don't you people using facebook/instagram to record or upload your daily story/photo/music/video?'

Your insight than make it sense. If they are closing My Homepage, the users will leave Barro. But, time has to change. It unavoidable. I also intrique by, if I am not mistaken understand it, that Scarlett wants to delete best search ranking and just put 10 most read articles in real time search. I don't know how that would affect a search engine.

Would it stop people to pay so that their article becomes the first ten that appear in the homepage/first page? If that is so, then it is great. There are so many hoax and repetitive articles in the website nowadays. I am looking for the fresh, unique, specific and better if it includes personal take of the matter (lifestyle & entertainment mostly).

It didn’t click to me first when they talked about “My homepage” and how this was a has-been division of Barro. Then when they started talking about old photos uploaded on My Homepage and showed what the website looked like, I was reminded of the time Cyworld ruled South Korea. Cyworld’s aka was Minihompy (short of Mini Homepage; I see now what you did there, show, “My Homepage” 😏)

Episode 12 opens an interesting topic of what it’s like it lead a generation. Brian told Scarlett it’s a matter of timing. It might sound impossible right now, but if the timing is right, consumers will pick up the pace and follow your lead.

Introducing a web portal that doesn’t have a search ranking is a scary thought at the moment (this is what the K-generations have grown accustomed to). But just like how My Homepage slowly went out business because somebody brave enough to introduce innovation, search rankings too will eventually phase out. And Barro needs to lead this generation and not let some other company do it.

Watching
Search Query: WWW
Still good. Although, I don't know where they would take it? I've seen ep 12. I couldn't say without giving no spoiler ;)

Designated Survivor
Sigh... I just binged watched Season 1 and Season 2 US versions on Netflix
The bar is just set too high. Although, Ji jin He & Kang Han Na are good, but automatically I compare them to Kiefer Shuterland & Maggie Q...
That happened with Suits, Criminal Minds too.

Although I see that they try to adapt it to Korean' issues and culture (?, sorry if I am wrong. What I want to explain is they try to adapt it to their perspective and background), I still couldn't enjoy it as it is.

I wish them luck...

Absolute Boyfriend
Easy, just for fun, may or may not finish it, because it arouses so many questions...
Ep 12 so far. I wish they didn't put the make up so thick and whiter the face, because it gets so noticeable when you compare the face and the hand... Then, I get to wonder if they didn't put the make up so white, could they portray the character better? Or would that be any relation between good acting and good make up?
