Wait, how many likes does it take to level up from being an errand boy? I just got here, but looking at those numbers I think I’ll be here forever.

Uh… that’s something we’re still trying to work out.
It’s not just likes you see, it’s a combination of all things, plus an unknown… and not everyone levels up at the same seen stats…

I get that part. But it all adds up to 1000 points and you level up to something, and then later to 2500 and you become something else. Errand boy seems to start at 5000. I would have thought it would change again at 7500 or 10000, but it looks like it could be 15000? I wonder why…. I remember seeing a table of levels and points with an explanation of following/followers way back when the new look debuted, but I’ve never been able to find it since then. Not that it matters. I just like to know how it works.

I’ve never seen points assigned to each level just the different names for each level.
Some have leveled past Errand Boy with much less than 10, 000 and other have stayed with more.

It’s a mystery wrapped in an enigma or just math no one has figured out yet.

@Beverly *maths I haven’t been bothered figuring out yet haha

Where did you get the points idea from @lindag? I’ll happily take any theory on board, I’ve been following this from when the site first launched.
Do you mean an arbitary unseen points based system, or a points system based on likes?
The points system can’t be based solely on likes or @pakalanapikakekake and I wouldn’t be at the same level.
But an unseen points based system is likely, I just haven’t been able to work out what the points per level is yet, and what equates to more points at certain levels (e.g. rate of posting, recap comments vs fanwall comments, links shared, word count and more, along with following, followers and upvotes).

And I’ve never seen such a table, but then the archive list of levels page was also removed. I didn’t think Db would ever tell us outright how the levels work lol, it’s fun to guess.

I always thought it was a points system based on a secret algorithm that Mary refuses to share, one that takes into account all our site activity. But we don’t know for sure.

Also @lindag, the fact that Errand Boys remain Errand Boys for an eternity is something that drives most Beanies mad at some point. Errandboyphrenia is a known Beanie malady. We have frequent epidemics, although at the moment I think there is only one sufferer.

@sicarius, they explained it way back in the beginning just before or just after the new site debuted, and they explained the levels in that post. Each like counts as 1. Each person you follow counts as something like 10 or 25. And each person who follows you counts as something like 50. Not sure if posts count for anything. They might. The points seem to be the one and only purpose of following, since nothing else happens when you follow someone or get followed.

How could I be the only one to remember that post????

Sorry, wasn’t thinking straight – posts also count as 1.

I don’t know how you could be the only one haha.
Maybe I’ll make and actual post about it to see if anyone else remembers.

The same problem still remains though, if you use this points based system.
If we use your numbers, idk if they’re true or not, but let’s just use them (and use 25 for every person you follow), then I have a total number of points of 110 279.
@pakalanapikake would have a total number of points of 38 570.
But we’re on the same level, and not only that, she leveled up before me.
            So why?
Unless things like recap comments were worth more than normal comments, and bonuses such as rate of posting, or posting streaks or something like that also exist, it can’t be as linear as the way you’re suggesting.
(we also do know that being a Minion means you level up more, so Lollypip is highest because she does the most recaps. I also suspect traffic on your articles as a Minion helps you level up).

It takes a long time. I became an errand boy in Feb this year. I expect to me here another 6 months at least.
There are many with lot of more comments/likes who are still errand boys.
The more active you are in recap threads the better your chances are.
