Beanie level: Rooftop room dweller

My itchy hands got ahead of me, & I finally clicked on Heaven Official Blessings manga. 🙈

Well, it just started in October, so only 7 measly chapters are available & I finished it within 30 minutes. 😭

Will both the manga & anime take 5 years to complete? I guess the live action would have finished airing by then? 😔

I have no idea what to do with my life now coz nothing else interests me as much as HOB anymore. *cries*

I just miss Huacheng so damn much. 🦋

There is apparently an audio drama, I haven’t listened to it yet.

no worries! @jenmole told me about it too. i have checked out some of them, but mainly still waiting for the extra chapters. hehe.

The art is very beautiful. 😍😍 Usually I don’t care much about manhua and donghua adaptation, but yeah, I’m desperate for more HOB contents.

Desperate us. We really need more content but there isn’t much out there. I’m trying to delay my reread but I’m not sure how long can I last..

Someone fell hard, especially after saying they would wait and be patient 😆 I was actually contemplating changing my name from Wei Wuxian’s Smile to Xie Lian’s Smile but ended up just going back to my normal username lol.

Is there a release date for this?

    1

      🙈🙈🙈

look what u did to me… heh! joking joking. can’t thank u enough for the recommendation.

i guess i have only trained my patience for kdramas. chinese novel is a new game, or i should say going back to the old game, lol.

i only know the anime will be out next yr, not sure about the exact date. but it’s gonna be a long wait for the entire anime to be out. will 5 years be enough? *cries*

      1
      1

Too long 😭 Will they have each season be a book then?

I am also waiting for the live action. I am both dreading and anticipating it. Super worried they will completely ruin it like some of these other live action adaptions. But also hopeful they can do it justice like The Untamed drama.

        2
        1

          book? i have no idea.

i already gave up on the live action, as in no expectations. coz like i said, i don’t want my XLxHC in any other way, but censorship… HC doesn’t hide his affections for XL. how is the liveaction gonna do that? sighs.

I’m using all my might to stop myself from rereading the novel now, coz there’s tons of kdramas waiting for me on the list.

If only the anime is completed already, sighs. *greedy me*

Why is Tian Guan Ci Fu so good? Darn.

I believe the manga is out or some of it atleast. I’ve not read it though.

I don’t watch anime (even The Untamed anime) but I’m excited for this to come out!

    1

i think only part of the manga is out. it takes time to draw afterall, same for the anime.

i did watch some anime when i was young, but dramas took over as i grow older. i would love to watch the anime, & i hope i can patiently wait till it’s completed b4 i start on it. which means it will take many years. omg.

This marks the end of my Jeju updates. I love & miss this island way more than Seoul (minus the shopping, HEHE).

Which means the next time I post about my Korea trip, it will be on Seoul! *SCREAMS*

(Sorry, but idk when I will have the time again to post about it.)

Jeju food highlight Snacks Edition

1. HALLABONGS!!! Hell yeah. It was expensive & tough to find coz it wasnt in season. Only the 1st one we tried was sweet, the rest were pretty sour coz its not the right season. 🙁

2. This box of red bean tteok may not look appetizing until you bite it. No doubt freshly made daily. The shop wasnt easy to find coz it almost looked like a little factory. 😅

3. Do you know theres this famous gimbap shop in Jeju which has celebrities photos plastered all over its wall & requires AT LEAST 2-3 hours reservation in advance? Tested & proven. WORTH IT. 😋

17
1

Time for some Jeju food highlights!

Heres the meal version~

1,2. Abalone feast. Not a fan though coz it was too chewy for me. But the grilled fish, which came with the abalone stone pot rice, was so fresh, that my husband who dislikes fish, swept off half of it. 😮

3. The best gogi guksu EVER. 🙌 Never underestimate this bowl of simple looking pork soup noodles. The restaurant has only this ONE item on the menu & the queue still goes on & on.

4,5. Jeju black pork BBQ feast completed with makgeolli. Never understand the logic of ssam (veggie wraps) until I tried it myself. God. You really have to eat it THAT way. Especially when the black pork are so chewy. Perfect with the fresh veggies. 👍

(Skipped the scampi feast coz I already mentioned it before.)

generally spicy i would say. but of coz u still can find non spicy food around easily.

seafood? u mean the scampi feast? that’s my husband’s favorite meal for the entire trip, lol! they r fresh. i think we can blame on our lousy photography skills. can’t justify them.

Crawling out from the claws of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu

(Uh its just the name of an author. Yes @trinpie, I failed big time.)

I proudly said I would take my time to read the novel(s) slowly. But I lied. More of like, I failed terribly. I completed all 3 novels in 10 days. 🙈 *COUGH* What to do when its Haneul but I was just blankly staring at the screen coz all I think about was Huacheng & his silver butterflies? I had to close Netflix & open my browser to continue reading..

Scum Villain

Her debut novel, also the last one I finished. It felt like a combo of W 2 Worlds & Memories of the Alhambra. I would say it was pretty ambitious & a little brainless *OOPS* (sorry, girl.)

Mo Dao Zu Shi

Everything started here. (The actual starting point is Untamed though.) Her 2nd & most famed novel. I already did a propaganda post on this, so I shall not elaborate much. Just wanna talk about my favorite scene again. Yunmengs ancestral hall. Aww. I was SO pleasantly surprised due to the difference between the drama & novel for this scene. I rolled in my bed for 5 entire minutes before I can gather myself. & did I mention I have one huge similarity with Weiying? I LOVE LOTUS ROOT & RIBS SOUP TOO!!! 😋

Tian Guan Ci Fu

Double the number of chapters, double the depth of love & content. Indeed her BEST work to date. I heard theres a drama adaptation in negotiation/progress but uh. Really? Hard to imagine. Coz whos gonna play Xielian & Huacheng? Coz they.. cant possibly exist in this world. Coz the world dont deserve them. & which CGI team dares to take up this project? Good luck to them.

Heres my favorite takeaway from this novel:

They say when humans ascend (to heaven), they become gods; when humans fall (into hell), they become ghosts.

Is there something wrong with that?

Of course its wrong. Remember: When humans ascend, they are still human; when they fall, they are still, human.

There aint gods nor ghosts. Just humans. SO DARN RIGHT.

Adding a personal touch, heres my choice of soundtrack for this novel. I put this song on loop whenever I read. Its perfect. Try it.

I will be patiently waiting for her 4th novel to be out. This time it will be about death gods/grim reapers I think. She improves with every new project & Im just so damn excited.

I have learnt 2 things from this experience. BL stories are SO addictive but I needa stay away from Chinese novels for the sake of my eyes health. Just like Weiying is the death of Lanzhan & Xielian is the death of Huacheng, this author will be the death of me.

I hope Im back safe in kdramaland for now. *Hello sleep, bye bloodshot eyes*

But darn. Im missing Huacheng & his silver butterflies already. (:

Oh, I read the second but not the third. Where did you read it?

    1
    2

MXTX is so good. I was also gobbling her works in mere 2 weeks, which is so not healthy for my eyes. I think I’m mostly surprised by how enjoyable Scum Villain is. It’s not as deep as the other 2, but the meta and the protagonist’s long rant about plot holes, cliche characters, and illogical turn of events were so entertaining to read. I’m not the biggest fan of SV’s main pairing (too obsessive and clingy to my liking), but since it mostly being conveyed in a comical light-hearted way, I’m okay with that.

As for TGCF, suffice to say that there’re tons of valid reasons why this novel is capable of inspiring me to write 4000 long words of rambling. So many unexpectedly deep relationships, so many important lessons. I’m both anticipating and dreading the drama adaptation that they’re going to make.

    3
    1

I see you failed in resisting reading her other books 😆 your experience is exactly the same as mine. I started with MDZH than moved to TGCH than finished with Scum Villain. And she definitely got better with each book. Scum Villain was entertaining and fun but definitely didn’t have the emotional impact and epic feel of her other books. I didn’t think anyone could love more than Lan Zhan loves Wei Ying and than I met Hua Cheng 😍

I spent a whole 3 day weekend in bed reading TGCH then almost every weekday for a week staying up hours past when I should have gone to bed. I also would sneak away during work to read. I was both sad when it ended but also happy because I could finally get some sleep 😆

And I was actually trying to think who my fantasy cast would be for TGCH and I couldn’t think of a single actor who I think would be perfect for either character.

Glad you also loved it ❤ so many plot twists took me by surprise and his second ascension wrecked me emotionally.

    3
    2

“I was both sad when it ended but also happy because I could finally get some sleep”

exactly. my bloodshot eyes were killing me.

i think they are casting young chinese idols for the roles… i rather they go for experienced actors.. sighs.

yes, i loved it. thanks for the recommendation! we may need to visit an eye doctor when her 4th novel is out. LOL.

      2
      1

Sadly it will be awhile before I can read her next novel. I’m not sure if she has started writing it yet and if so how far she is with the novel. But I also have to wait for translations 😭 but it’s about grim reapers? Oooh sounds good! I’d heard from someone else that the MC this time will be a bad guy which I think will be an interesting change. Hua Cheng and Luo Binghe can be considered bad but they aren’t the MC. Wei Wuxian flirts with being a bad guy but he ultimately is a good guy. So this could make for quite an interesting character. Fine line between making them hateful and unsympathetic and making them relatable. But I have faith in the author 😆

        1
        0

if age isn’t the problem, the 1st person i thought of, to play Huacheng, is Chen Kun. not sure if u know him..

      2
      1

He is too old though since HC is supposed to look about 18 or 19. I’ve only seen him in Rise of the Phoenixes and I’m not sure if it was his character or how he portrayed the character but I didn’t care for him.

@kimbapnoona made a suggestion of Dylan Wang who I think could fit. She suggested someone for Xie Lian who I thought fit the look but I dont recall who it was since I had never seen him in anything before. I just hope whoever it is will do a good job and can bring the characters alive and be true to their characters. It’s asking for a lot 😆

        2
        2

yep i know he’s too old but god i love his acting.

sighs, most probably i will be afraid of starting the drama when it’s out coz due to the censorship issue, it will definitely be different from the novel & i really don’t want my XLxHC IN ANY OTHER WAY. *le sigh*

          2
          2

I was suggesting Joseph Zeng (Zeng Shun Xi) for the role of XL because he has beautifully delicate facial features and he was great as Zhang Wuji in the 2019’s adaptation of Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre.

But recently I watched a YT vid which suggests Luo Yunxi as XL which I thought was brilliant, although I am not sure about Leo Wu as HC just because he is still little Fei Liu in my head! 😅

            2
            0

@kimbapnoona Even though I loved Luo Yunxi in the dramas I’ve seen I’m not 100% sold on him. He certainly knows how to rip my heart out in the roles he played.

Definitely can’t see Leo Wu as HC.

            0
            0

          @trinpie @kimbapnoona

i’m guilty coz idk any of these chinese actors despite being chinese myself, lol. it’s been many years since i successfully completed a chinese drama, so Untamed is kinda groundbreaking for me. & i’m thankful coz it let me discover TGCF. 💘

Note: This gonna be a really long post, with spoilers of works mentioned. But most probably this will be the one & only post about these works too. 🙂

Its been YEARS since I touched a Chinese drama (China) despite it being my native language. I did try Put Your Head on My Shoulder few months back but couldnt even get pass Ep 2. Just doesnt have interest & hate dubbings.

But due to the excessive propaganda on fanwalls & easy access thanks to Netflix, I finally pressed play on The Untamed.

I didnt fall head over heels but I did enjoy the show. For I have seen my share of wuxia & xianxia since young, thanks to my 3 elder brothers. The plot wasnt too difficult to understand, nor unpredictable for me. I love the OTP but not to the extent of going gaga over the actors. (My sanity is safe, 😏😝)

However, my crave for BL *cough* wasnt fulfilled thanks to the strict censorship, so I went to read the original source. The novel, Mo Dao Zu Shi & OMFG. I FUCKING LOVE IT. Granted, I was just scanning thru for the OTP moments but GOD I died from hysterical laughter at every single of the OTPs interactions in the novel. If only there wasnt censorship Damn it.

Though I wonder if the magic of subtle awesomeness (yes, thats what I called it) will disappear if the drama did follow the BL aspects of the novel closely

If you cant get enough of LZs drunken antics, CHECK OUT THE NOVEL. You wont regret it. The drama had only displayed 10% of it. I swear.

If you cant get enough of WYs playful antics, CHECK OUT THE NOVEL. You wont regret it. Remember, censorship.

If you want explicit explanations of the characters actions, CHECK OUT THE NOVEL. You wont regret it. The drama actually hid a lot of truth imo. I swear. *blames the censorship again*

If you want more BL, more LZs thoughtfulness/selflessness/patience/devotedness/loyalty towards WY, anything more than just subtle awesomeness, CHECK OUT THE NOVEL NOW. YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT.

Yes, you guess it right. This is a propaganda post for Mo Dao Zu Shi, the novel. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Beanies who love the drama & can read Chinese, I see ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for you to skip the novel. The writers sense of humor is right up my alley, & with her witty narrations, its so much more fun than just seeing the poker face LZ in the drama. Her descriptions exactly tell me whats LZ feeling than having to guess from his straight face in the show.

(I know theres translated versions online too. I actually checked out one of the extra chapters translated & got a freaking shock. Because there was too much info aka plain porn. Im not sure if fanfic was included in the translations or the Chinese version I read was incomplete aka safe version. But I rather have that anyway. Once again so damn glad that I can read Chinese coz lets be honest, the original language will always be the best.)

Ah Reminds me of the good old days. When I was a teenager, when my friends were reading stuff like Dan Brown etc, Im reading Taiwanese romance novels. HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Now, heres some short afterthoughts of the novel. If you have plans to read the novel, please stop here. theres spoilers ahead & I swear you wouldnt want it. Oh, it\’s a MUST to read the extra chapters. You wouldn\’t want to miss the good stuff.

– WYs forgetfulness is on another level here & I hate it. I can call it amnesia already but then again, it was kinda needed for plot development I guess?
– Luckily LZ can cook or else what they gonna do when they start living together? We all know about WYs cooking skills. Hahahaha!
– The part at Guanying Temple supposed to be the highlight, but the drama version was bloody anticlimactic compared to the novel coz that public confession was god damn hilarious.
– Who knew LZ could be so lustful? *cough*

There were some hints of confession in the drama, but this gonna be my favorite one.

You know exactly what it means, after the story of LZs parents was mentioned.

AH! Thanks beanies, for all the propaganda. Its been so long since I enjoyed a Chinese novel.

Most importantly, thank you, Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. The novels author. ❤️

敹蝢 (Wangxian) is perfect to describe LZ\’s love for WY. Besides the combination of their names, the meaning of the Chinese characters are so on point. ❣️

Playful Weiying, drunken Lanzhan, clumsy Weining. I love you guys. 💕

    Awwww Thanks for this, @jrr

        2
        1

that’s why i kinda gave up before trying. 😂

          1
          0

Gosh this scene was everything, he wanted to protect WY 16 years ago like his father did for his parents.
I think the storyline of the yin metal/body parts made more sense in the book than in the drama. I especially love the scene in the temple where WY confesses his feelings and XC, JGS are like ‘Finally what took you so long!’

    4
    1

yep, that scene was indeed everything. the impact was already there when i watched that scene, then when his bro told WY about what happened to his parents, i died.

i’m guilty that i was focusing on just the OTP moments when i read the novel, so the story on the yin metal/body parts was kinda neglected. 🙊

my favo scene was actually the one at yunmeng’s ancestral hall. u have no idea how much i rolled on my bed when i read that coz i was supposed to be sleeping at that time! god damn, who knew there was a hidden meaning to it when i watched the drama?! coz nothing was mentioned & it’s so different in the drama!!!

      2
      2

My favorite scene was the blindfold kissing part *cough cough* 😏

The drama did a great job adapting from the novel but because of the censors the novel will definitely be the better of the 2.

        1
        4

HAHAHA! the revelation was so funny once again. i just love the author’s sense of humor so damn much. it’s the combo of romance & humor (more of flirting & teasing LOL) that sealed the deal for me. is HOB this fun too?

what could have been, without the censorship.. *sighs*

          2
          1

Oh ya. She retains her sense of humor through all her novels. Which is why I love her ❤

            2
            0

AWW. it’s tempting. HOB. but i’m too lazy to read up on all the background info & other characters. that’s why i need to watch the drama 1st. easier that way, lol!

anw, u read her 1st novel too? was it good too? do u know if there’s a drama for it?

          1
          1

Ya. Scum Villain. It was entertaining and fun but not as deep and emotionally profound as her other 2 novels. Good if you just want a light and fun BL.

            1
            0

u know what? my hands got itchy & i clicked on chapter 1 of HOB. i’m only halfway thru the chapter, i’m laughing in tears already. the writer is really something. i swear.

          2
          1

I’ve started reading it too, it is great!!

            1
            0

Yessss! That was such a great scene, I also loved the LZ drunk scenes and when WYfound out about the headband meaning!

          2
          1

Imagine we get the hide & seek + shower scenes in the drama. 🙈

            2
            0

I know, it is such a shame that scene wasn’t included in the drama!
After that confession, I paid no attention to everyone else and focused on their scenes. How cute when SS came in, WY said he didn’t want to leave LZ’s embrace! LZ actually laughed, just perfect.

        1
        0

Now go read the authors other novel, Heaven’s Official Blessing! 😆 I loved Mo Dao Zu Shi but I thought HOB was even better. I was staying up hours past when I should be going to sleep reading it. I would sneak away at work to read it. The romance is more pure but more deep also (there are no scenes in the book, the most they do is kiss). I didn’t think anyone could love more than Lan Zhan loved Wei Ying until I read HOB.

On another note, I loved the confession and even made a post on the fanwall about it 🤣 Only WWX would confess like that lol

    http://www.dramabeans.com/members/trinpie/activity/905605/

    1
    1

i guess there isn’t a drama for Heavens Official Blessing yet right? coz i’m a lazy bum bum. i would prefer to watch the liveaction or at least the anime before i go to the novel, so i can just scan thru for the OTP moments. HAHAHA!

& there’s freaking 252 chapters? omg. i can read chinese, yes, but i would actually rather spend that time on more dramas. 😂 i will be patiently waiting for HOB’s drama then. 🤣 in the meanwhile, i’m so gonna reread MDZS coz i miss all those flirting & teasing already!! 😆

just like i mentioned on the above reply to another beanie, i love the scene at yunmengs ancestral hall more than anything. 😍 the temple confession was so hilarious, that JGY reacted by releasing WY helplessly. HAHAHAHA.

      2
      1

Ya it’s like twice as long as MDZS but so worth it. I actually started crying while reading it, something I didn’t do with MDZS. Don’t get me wrong, I loved MDZS but thought HOB was even better written. The writer gets better with each book she writes (I’ve read all 3 of her novels) And the romance in HOB was so swoony 😍 such a great romance.

The anime has a trailer out already so it should be coming soonish. I don’t think there is even a cast for the drama though (or if there is nothing has been publicized) so it probably wont come out until 2021 or so 😭😭 I dont know how I’ll wait that long!

        1
        3

hmm.. but the anime episodes won’t come out all at once right? i mean, it will take years to complete.. i think i just have to wait then.

my logic is that, the original work is always the best. if i were to read the novel b4 i watch the drama, the drama will disappoint me 95% of the time. so i would rather watch the drama b4 the novel. *patience is a virtue* i hope i wont get too tempted to start on HOB soon, lol.

True lol the dramas just can’t compete with the novels. I was not patient 😆

“I actually started crying while reading it, something I didnt do with MDZS.”

GOD i know how u feel now. the same thing happened to me. i think i was around chapter 10+ish & i was laughing in tears as usual but at the same time, i felt a slight pang in my heart & got really teary. i think coz we already know the writer’s style. i can already foresee the possibilities of what gonna happened & what had happened. maybe? if yes, i gonna do it slowly, hopefully. there’s a bunch of kdramas that just finished airing & i gotta get to them 1st. it’s nice to go back to read though. it’s been a long while. i liked reading chinese novels when i was younger. but i always love dramas. *priorities, lol*

The folks who translated the audio drama moved the links to Discord. You may not need the translations but it’s where you can download the audio drama to listen for free. I believe it is almost complete. They were translating the extras for each season. Here’s the link to the Discord invite:

thanks once again! i have tried it! for the parts which were omitted in the drama. don’t think i will sit thru the entire audio drama, though i will be waiting for the remaining extra chapters that are not available yet coz *cough* they are kinda important. 🤣

You’re welcome! I have only completed the first season and It was lots of fun. Then I got side tracked reading HOB and haven’t finished the rest yet.

I’ll go back to it when all episodes plus the when all the extras are up coz *nods head* they are important!

I could almost say Golden Garden was as bad as Mother of Mine, but the latter had upgraded my tolerance level for lousy makjang shit to the maximum. All I can say is, at least GG has a shorter episode count than MOM. Thats the best consolation I can give to myself. 🤦‍♀️

The interactions & dialogues between the OTP were very silly written, as if the script was done by a teenager. There were a few nice moments, but definitely not enough to overlook entirely. Its the 2nd time that Lee Sangwoo & Han Jihye working together, but god idk what happened. Their acting deteriorated really badly in this drama. Or maybe their characters were just way too childish for them to comprehend. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I really need to swear off weekenders. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

*shit things I do for this real-life couple* 🙈

I watched the 1st 4 eps of this show just because of Lee Sang woo.

The entire time I was thinking, ‘Huh, maybe a Reach of Sincerity rewatch is not a bad idea’.
