I finally managed to check out the Taiwanese BL HIStory series too. It’s no wonder that Crossing the Line is the best rated of all. You can easily see the difference in quality, if you compare it with the others.

It gives me hope. Taiwanese production companies can consider to make drama adaptations from Wu Ze’s novels. I think it’s feasible. Priest ones are too tough as her plotlines are of blockbuster scale. I don’t think budget will be a problem for slice of life genres aka Wu Ze’s. The biggest problem is always actor casting. SIGHS.

On a side note, I’m itching for more BL novels. Beanies, do let me know if you have good recommendations, preferably contemporary/modern ones instead of historial/period. 😁

This one is definitely in my Top 3 of the “HIStory” series (my other 2 favourites being “Obsession” and “Stay Away From Me” ☺️)
Taiwan definitely does BL right, imo, I actually just finished another Taiwan BL last night hehe 😉 “Because Of You 2020”, I definitely recommend it

Oo! Thanks for ur recommendation. I will check it out. ^^

Anyway have u checked out any BL novels? Trust me, it’s very different from dramas. For BL, I will always choose novels over dramas. ALWAYS. Try one when u have the time!

Thank you for the recommendation. I watched Stay Away From Me last night. I was surprised how tame it is in comparison to the others I’ve watched.

Crossing the Line is one of the best BLs because it actually treats the characters as genuinely queer characters and not fan service queer characters. That’s not to say that there’s no fan service in there. Those kisses are some of the best in BL history. But they actually take the time to show how the two leads fall for each other. If it isn’t already apparent, I often forget there’s another couple in Crossing the Line. 😙🎶

Speaking of how characters fall for each other, Fandy Fan is one of the best actors I’ve come across in a BL. He absolutely sells his character. So yes, casting is incredibly important for a BL.

If one or both leads aren’t ok with being intimate with another dude, it almost always shows. Addicted/Heroin is another drama that benefited greatly from the chemistry and above average acting skills of its actors. Chemistry isn’t everything though.

Jake Hsu and Chris Wu had really good chemistry in Trapped, but the storyline was a bit frustrating to deal with sometimes. The crime storyline sucked, the love storyline had a ton or potential, but lived up to about 3/4 of it. I think this is because BL dramas tend to lack focus. They often want to feature more than one couple which makes both couples suffer and too many external factors/storylines tend to bog things down. Focus can be rewarding.

HIS: I Didn’t Think I Would Fall In Love and Mood Indigo both benefit from being focused dramas that are telling gay/queer stories that, I would argue, took into consideration a queer/gay audience in addition to a fujoshi audience like Crossing the Line did.

HAHAHA, coz we all love BLs. <3

I agreed to what you said about Trapped, & actually many BL dramas. They lack focus. Which is why I tend to go to novels instead of the dramas. I wish I could intro you all the awesome chinese BL novels that I have read, but you will need the translations in order to check them out. ARGH.

[Belated realized the novel titles disappeared so I deleted it & repost this LOL]

I need to talk about Wu Ze. My last BL novel addiction (for now) before I returned to kdramaland. Yep, I finally got tired of reading Chinese characters. LOL!

I completed 15 ‘slice of life’ pieces by Wu Ze, random thoughts below:

– You need to excel in some sort of sports, in order to be a lead in WZ’s novel. Especially basketball.
– I get confused at times coz sometimes it felt like I’m reading a Slam Dunk novel HAHAHAHAHA. Too many basketball matches.
– But my favorite sports event gotta be Qing Kuang’s Sports Day. Damn.
– Talking about Qing Kuang, I thought it depicts the innocent first love in school so well, but it was best at its narrative for the teacher-parent parts. The kids were so lucky to have Mr Yuan as their mentor teacher. & you get the best cameos/mentions here too.
– Oh, you have to be a really good fighter too, to be one of the lead characters.
– The author tends to over rely on coincidental meetings at the start of the novels. 😕
– There is an official confession of ‘I love you’ in every single novel, except Qing Kuang. 😶
– Sa Ye was indeed her best work. The song lyrics killed me & I died when my favorite line was written on the birthday cake. 💘
– You may get nose bleeds when you read her earlier works. *cough*
– I love that handmade engraved dog tag necklace gift in Xiao Zhang. I died when I saw the 4th & final sentence engraved. It totally deserved a crying scene but how dare Ding Ji say that he’s way too surprised to even tear?!

Wu Ze is pretty much an expert in BL slice of life stories.

@kimbapnoona, do you know there’s a ‘hidden’ novel by Wu Ze which if I’m not wrong, only available in hard copy but can’t be found online? The title is Pao Lou. I only managed to find 3 trial chapters online. 😭

Not sure when I will pick up another BL novel, but it feels good to come back to kdramas. Hooray!

What’s a better way to make an official comeback to kdramas than catching Crash Landing on You? I thought I might go gaga over Hyunbin like everyone did, but surprisingly my eyes were more on Son Yejin. Her character is SO bubbly, what a ray of sunshine. 😊🌞 I didn’t go nuts for Hyunbin’s character, but my knees still went weak when I hear his signature soft voice in Netflix’s Swoon videos. 😍

I came purely for shallow reasons aka for the 4 leads (coz the drama was pretty illogical), so I didn’t expect myself to ugly cry during the last 2 episodes. Damn, feel like I failed myself. LOL.

The drama was special in 2 ways:

– The more than awesome star-studded cameos. It’s impossible for other dramas to surpass its record in the near future.

– The OTP chemistry. The very reason why this drama succeeded.

Need to go now. I’m still mourning for the loss of Seungjun. This is so much more painful than Time. Damn. 😭

lol..but she looks really funny running like that.. it looks comic

I knew the story would be absurd and came purely for the chemistry, which… I don’t feel any at ep 10. Why oh why!

I need to have a word with Kiyong\’s stylist. Or is it the drama, Born Again\’s stylist?! I know the hairstyle wouldn\’t last long but WHAT THE WIG IS THAT?!

How I’m slowly crawling my way back to kdramas…

I actually started VIP before I got sucked back into BL novels (again), but I really wasn’t in the mood for such heavy material. & when Jang Nara started suspecting which of her female colleagues is having an affair with her husband, my 1st thought was, ‘Why can’t it be Shin Jaeha?” 🙈 *things that BL novels do to me* 🤣

So I picked another light-hearted romcom. People With Flaws. The moment I saw Wonseok’s storyline, I knew I had to watch this piece. I was so pleasantly surprised, coming from the land of BL novels. Though, the main OTP was ridiculous in every single way, be it story or acting. 🤦‍♀️

The drama gave me a 2nd surprise later on. Coz I realized Hodol’s house is exactly where my Airbnb accommodation was located at when I was in Seoul few months back!!! It totally felt like they were filming in front of my house & Hodol is my neighbor!! HAHAHAHAHAHA what the heck is wrong with me LOL oh yes, my updates on my Seoul trip is so overdue but I have priorities *cough* BL novels *cough* so… I have no idea when I will post the photos… *runs away*

Okay, back to Wonseok. I’m thankful that kdramaland is finally venturing into LGBT in the right way, albeit slowly. Cha Inha did a wonderful job, in terms of the mannerisms & gestures. I can totally tell he did his homework. It’s just devastating to know that we will never get to see him act again. I really liked him in Clean With Passion too. 😢 I just hope he’s in a happier place now. 🙏

1

I was in this drama for everyone except the main couple (mainly because of ML) and this storyline was also my favourite. I loved Cha In Ha on it and I also believed his job was fantastic. Some of the scenes where specially touching when watching considering he was no longer with us. Suc a terrible loss. I also hope he is in peace now 💜

After these two awesome BL authors (MXTX & Priest), I’m moving on to Wu Ze, all thanks to @kimbapnoona’s recommendation.

Shoutout to kimbapnoona!

Sa Ye is awesome! I love the song lyrics so darn much.

I’m in the midst of reading her other BL novels too, some good some bad.

Oh, & I absolutely welcome more recommendations!!!! *wink wink*

2 of her novels (“Uncontrolled Love” & “Round Trip To Love”) have been turned into movies, which I’ve actually watched and both kept my attention 😉😉

So happy to hear that you like Sa Ye @llljr!! 😊 The ost from its audio drama moved me to tears hearing those beautiful words set to music:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L96Zen192Ds&list=PLr-qtCp8IFEPznzcDUsGrEh5zSoAUIkKU&index=13&t=0s

I read part of Wu Ze’s “有种你再撞一下” which definitely feels like a less mature younger work to me. I am excited to read 一个钢镚儿 which is on top of my list!

For a really fun fluffy campus romance, I recommend “伪装学渣” by 木瓜黄.

I just finished 当年万里觅封侯 which I really enjoyed. Despite the tragic premise, the story is absolutely hilarious and surprisingly low angst once the OTP gets together!

    1
    1

OMONA. thanks for the link, i didn’t check out the audio drama so i didn’t know there was this OST. 😮

yep, 有种你再撞一下 was the one that i said was bad. 格格不入 was slightly better. i just finished 一个钢镚儿! it’s good, i like it as much as i liked 解药! my next on list is 轻狂. ^^ anyway where are u reading 巫哲’s novels? the website i’m using doesn’t have her whole list of BL novels.. 😅

thanks for the recommendations~ I see that 当年万里觅封侯 is a period one.. i still prefer contemporary/modern ones tbh. have u see AWM? it’s by the same author & i have seen good reviews.

      1
      1

I have read 3 of 漫漫何其多’s works -AWM, 影帝 and 当年万里觅封侯 and 当年万里觅封侯 for me is the most written one with an actual plot. 😆 AWM and 影帝 both have really submissive 受s which don’t really appeal to me so the stories just feel like hero worshipping, but they are easy and diverting read especially if the premise of the stories appeal to you.

解药 is also on my list to read too! I don’t have a particular website that I use but just whichever one that seems to have to least annoying ads. Try this one:
        https://www.52shuku.me/xiandaidushi/hxlo.html

I am about 110 chapters in 残次品 and it is glorious…..thank you so much for your recommendation @llljr! I do get so emotionally wrapped up in it that at times I hve to take break reading other fluffier stories just to get a sense of balance especially at the end of intense work days! 😅

        1
        2

Ah… Submissive 受s… The favo thing I like about 巫哲’s novels is that there are 互攻s. I like that better than distinctive 攻受s..

解药 has an ongoing donghua now, though it’s kinda awful imo..

oh yes! great to know u’re enjoying 残次品! Glorious.. nice way to describe it. I can’t even find an appropriate word. Grand? Oh, 110 chapters? Hmm.. The heartbreaking parts haven’t even started yet… 🙊 Wait till you finish everything including the extra chapters. It’s really the most satisfying ending we can wish for. 💕

Oops! I gave you the wrong link!
            https://www.52shuku.me/zuozhe/wuzhe/

Yeah, I like 强强 or 互攻 the most! That’s part of the reason why BL novels appeal to me much more than Asian heterosexual romances. Most female heroines display varying degrees of aversion to intimacy (at least verbally) or feeling like they are being taken advantage of whenever there is skinship and that is a putoff for me with my “western” sensibility. 😂 Just enjoy it!! He is hot and he is into you!!

The heartbreaking parts haven’t even started yet…

😭😭😭😭😭 thank you @llljr for letting me know of the satisfying ending otherwise it might be hard for me to ever get back to it! I am such a wuss like that!! I skipped the chapters when Wei Wu Xian was dying and HOB almost killed me with that torturous XL arc! 😅

            1
            0

thanks for the links!!! that definitely have more 巫哲’s novels than the website i’m using~ ^^

heh, i just thought that 互攻 feels fairer… HAHAHAHAHA

aww, trust me. it’s worth it. 残次品 is really Priest’s best work imo. so well written.

anyway, i’m so glad i have someone to talk to about BL novels. no one around me reads BL. *cries* thanks @kimbapnoona for your accompany & recommendations! 😘

erm, trust me. Korean is easier to learn. let’s try to be patient with the translations. Chinese characters are too tough for non natives imo. the manhua is following quite close to the novel too.

anyway, my screenshot is part of the conversation where they were talking about ghosts entrusting their ashes to the one they chose to trust, the part when HC replied that he wouldn’t even care if the person were to destroy it or toss it for fun, if he’s the one who gave away his ashes.

is this a marriage because she is pregnant?

I get the feeling that it’s more that they’re ‘forced’ to keep silent about dating, and don’t announce anything until there’s a wedding and/or pregnancy, and then it seems really sudden.
