Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Hey guys! I don't usually leave comments but i just finished watching The Princess's Man and I'm feeling all sentimental and the first thing I did after was to rush over to this site to check out the review you did on the series ages ago! And then I thought it was about time I said THANKYOU!! SO! MUCH!! For all the work you put into this site! If kdramas are my addiction then dramabeans is my haunt! Really thankyou, I love writing too and seeing the passion you put into this site is absolutely inspiring :)

I can hardly ask for more than what you already do but if I may I'd love to see a return of those korean culture posts you did some time back.. you know with the noona/ oppa posts and stuff! I'm always fascinated by sageuks and sometimes I feel like I kind of miss the point because I don't have much understanding of the culture or language.

But dramabeans is my kdrama haven nomatter what :) Hwiighting!! ^^

Keep up the great work here! Honestly, there's nothing much more to ask for coz you all have blown my mind away with everything you've done here. If there's anything more I'd like to see in 2012, it's probably videotaping the podcasts? They sound like sooooo much fun to make just by listening to your banter; i'm sure it'll look fun on video too! =D

Full kdrama ost downloads 'cause sometimes I spend so much time searching for them online. Individual songs are
great, but when I really enjoy the musical score in a specific kdrama, I love to have it on my gadgets and listen to the songs over and over while I'm still remembering the feeling of watching them and reliving them in my mind.

Thanks for all you hard work and contributors' work also. Subbers should also be held in high regard as they are the ones who spend sleepless nights tolling away for our drama enjoyment.

Your recaps make the watching experience so pleasurable for non-Korean speaking fans. Love your site and HAPPY 5TH ANNIVERSAY and while we're at it HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR TO ALL (Chūnjié - 春節).

Hey!! I don't think I could love this website any more than I already do but a question section for Javabeans, Girlfriday and the rest of the recapping team would be awesome. Not something that you would have to answer everyday or each request (because you guys are sooo busy!) but just a place where we could put our questions so that you could pick and choose some to address in your podcasts or a post dedicated to answering questions every 3 months :D Keep up the awesome work!!

I like dramabeans the way it is, so it's hard for me to think of what more you could add. Maybe recaps from older series that would be worth to watch? That's something I would welcome.

Thanks again for the lovely giveaways!

Thanks for 5 years of awesome drama recaps! What I'd like to see in 2012 is movie reviews! I read the post on 200 pounds beauty and though it was really great! I'd really enjoy being able to read more posts like those

I would like more podcasts of slightly shorter length -- maybe 35-ish minutes -- and for the podcasts to be put on iTunes. Also do you guys have an email list that users can subscribe to -- like if you have upcoming items you want to announce or contests or whatever. Sometimes it's easier for me to check my email (especially on a mobile phone) than to go to the website. Also, if you have any info of when Korean movies or shows come out on DVD! That would be AWESOME! Thank you Dramabeans peeps -- you've worked hard!

I love the conversations between javabeans and girlfriday. When the conversation is a review of an episode or a movie, I know hilarity will ensue. I would love to see more recaps made in this way with side comments because you guys always provide the bigger, non-literal picture behind everything.

Dramabeans has been my to go to site for years. So I was thinking for a long time I would love to see in dramabeans for 2012 is more drama reviews on their music. Dramas aren't dramas without an outstanding ost. What is your top favorite ost on all the drama's you've have watched? The most heartwrentching song ever u have heard? One that can't leave your heart. Another would be categorizing your favorite dramas from saeguk, romance, comedy, etc. I would be looking at dramabeans final ratings ( you know where they rate the drama overall) and I would wonder if that drama was a family drama, romance, comedy, and such. Not a biggie thing, but something that would show me what category that drama was in. Because I try to stay away from the sad dramas I tend to feel blue easily hahaha but overall dramabeans is one the best sites I have ever been too. This site was one of the reasons why me and my sisters started making mini dramas :)

I would like to see more of the Variety Roulette recaps. That's partially because I don't watch a lot of variety shows and would like a better idea of what's out there that I may be interested in, and partially because I love it when you guys post in the back-and-forth conversational format (like these giveaways) and the variety shows are particularly conducive to that.

Happy Birthday Dramabeans!!!! I like the way dramabeans already is :)! One thing that I would like to see more of would be drama recaps. I love all the ones that you have done so far. They just make you want more and more of the drama. Thank you for all the recaps you've done and the future ones that will come. Another small detail, I was wondering if it is possible to make it so that when you are reading recaps that you can simply press an arrow to go to the next episode instead of returning to the full recap page or entering in the episode number? Those are all the things that I could think of! Thank you :)

As for what I'd like to see on DB, I definitely want more of the same and perhaps some movie reviews. I would love to know what movies i must catch and your take on the ones i did watch.

Thank you for all your hard work!

Movie reviews. Or more Variety Show recaps! ;D Maybe quick recaps on long dramas. People rarely tune in to family dramas because of the length, but because of your quick recaps on Ojakkyo Brothers, I found out they're not all boring!!

And...chatbox for DB readers? 8D

Congrats to all the winners!

This 2012, I hope that Dramabeans sticks to its winning formula with the funny yet insightful recaps that are always a great read, sometimes even more enjoyable than the actual drama, plus the warm engaging community that doesn't hesitate to share their opinions but doesn't have to result to petty fighting to make their sides known.

I hope to see some more Variety Roulette, because it's interesting to see what everyone thinks of the actors and artists themselves, rather than just the dramas and roles they play. I'd like to see recaps/reviews of more movies as well because I might want to watch a Korean movie but I can't find any good reviews/recommendations on the Internet.

Congratulations again to Dramabeans! Keep up the fantastic work!

This year, I would like to see more variety recaps, since those are always fun. But I think it would be more fun to see an expansion of dramas recapped and of the recappers. I think what would really cool would be video message blog segments of the month, where a recapper goes on in a video about their most hated drama, or new fanatic kpop love or whatever. Kinda like a rant or something, but awesomer because it's a K-Rant. Huh, just named it. Well something like that would be cool. Thanks for all the kdrama spreading of obsession!

I think I remember somewhere in the woman who still wants to marry Girlfriday revealed her age, and early dramabeans comments gave away javabeans' name. Even though it has already been mentioned by a few others, it is what I want most.... an extension of the glossary to including the names of the clothing they wear in historic dramas. Especially the black piece men wear around there heads. The tall black hat with or with out beads is a 'gat" but I haven't been able to find the name of the under piece. As an American I would call it a 'do rag but I sense that that is probably not right.

I would like to have a review (short story) of the lives, with pics of Javabeans and girfriday.
I have tried imagining you two and I am sure my imagination does not do you justice.

I imagine Javabeans as someone like the main character in Personal taste. But with glasses and a bit less naive.

I imagine girlfriday as the main character in My girlfriend is a Gumiho. She cames across as the dreamy one of you two (Javabeans is a bit more of a realist)

:) A part of me want it but the other part would want it to remain a mystery.
I say we put it up for votes and then Javabeans and Girlfriday can decide if they want to!!!

How about learning Korean words or phrases?
One word/phrase per day would be too much, I think.
Let's make it one word/phrase per week. :)
Simply take it from the current drama you're recapping!

I would really like to see you tell us who your favorite artists are, one by one and tell your opinion in how their acting skills fare on certain dramas and roles and rating them according to how much you like them and how much you think they are as an actor

I guess I always wanted to hear your opinions about everything in kdrama land :)

I would like to say more recaps-but since that is probably not possible maybe more drama reviews?
I realize you don't have time to recap every drama you watch but I love reading/listening to your comments on dramas even without the recap. This is probably wicked of me but I enjoy your comments on bad dramas more than good ones. Although I really enjoyed your review for The Princess's Man.
I also wish you had open threads for dramas that you decided not to recap but are popular.

Anyway thank you for all the hard work you put into this sight.

You guys make watching kdramas all the more fun just by your mere existence :) Thanks for that!

Most of what I would suggest has already been touched on. I would love to see more of the dictionary/culture posts. Movie recaps and music posts are fun. Love when santa drops in and podcasts are great. And I'm happy for another year of your general awesomeness :) Thanks dramabeans, girlfriday and all the various guesties.

I think it would be cool if you chose an actor or actress (maybe through a vote on the site or just a favorite amongst yourselves) and then weecapped their entire career. I do think it might be more fun if staff and guesties nominated one actor based on whatever compelling and/or nefarious reason (huge and versatile talent, crap acting skills, just for the abs...) Then we could vote and the bloggers could take turns re or weecapping each drama/movie.

More recaps on the oldies but goodies because it would mean alot to us non koreans who don't always understand the jokes/ culturally-related actions that the characters do but we don't know why...

but other than that it's all been good :) dramabeans is where i decide what my next crack drama would be...and it hasnt always been the right thing to do when you have assignments/ exams piling up

but there's gotta be a balance between work/play right?

thank you for all these years.

I think a Dramabeans fan rating would be good. I always appreciate your ratings when it is time to pick a new drama to watch. Perhaps a 5 star rating scale from your loyal subjects would be helpful too.

Also, perhaps a link to wiki or some other information page after the name of an actor. Since I am relatively new, I still can't keep all of the actors straight so I am always Googling their names to find out more.

Whether you change the site a bit or not, it doesn't matter...Dramabeans rules! Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication!

Love this site - it is consistently my 'most visited' on Google Chrome statistics. I am happy with DB exactly the way it is and if you never change anything, I'm fine with that - but if you're ASKING for us to just be greedy...

Movie recaps are fun, and I like to watch a movie inbetween dramas sometimes. Maybe you could do them in a podcast, where a couple of you get together to discuss a movie you've watched. It wouldn't have to be as long as your other podcasts, 20 or 30 minutes should do it?

In fact...you could do some podcasts about older dramas you guys have already seen that weren't recapped here! Oooh, that. I would love that!

But really, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much for all this work you do.

Question: What do you want to see on Dramabeans in 2012? This is your chance to tell us that one thing you’ve always wanted to see on DB or what you want to see more of this year. Maybe that’s more of the same, or maybe you’ve got a wild ‘n crazy out-there idea. We are not averse to crazy. (As always, please use a valid email in the comment form. No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Miki: First of all guys, thank you javabeans and girlfriday for slaving over this website because I don't think I could watch kdramas the same way without you! Although I'm Korean, sometimes it's hard for me to understand some of the things that are said in dramas. You help me to understand the gist of the complicated bits, and to enjoy the rest!

You're like my Wikipedia of Kdramas. Except better, way sassier and funnier.
It's hard to come up with something I would like to see more of or to ask for more; you guys always update as quick as lightning, and faster than I can hope for.
Thank you for always seeming to recap dramas that I want to watch.. or maybe I just like to watch dramas that you guys recap? I'm not sure anymore!

Something I would love to see actually is a portion about K actors and actresses/pop stars. It's hard to explain exactly what I would like, but it'd be totally cool if we'd be able to scroll down a list of people and be able to see facts, interesting stories, etc about the most popular stars.

You already give us the scoop on the stars, but it'd be nice to have a trusty database of sorts on each star, with all your stories + well known facts in one place, that people could add on to.

Hope this makes sense.
Thanks for this giveaway; you guys already give us a lot with your quality work. This website is amazing, so mainly for 2012, I want more of the same awesomesauce, please! Whatever above & beyond you guys do or have planned up for us is just icing we will all be grateful for.

Plus, I hope you guys get SOME rest this year. xD But not too much, cause I really want some more updates on Moon & Sun.

Love and thanks from,
Miki
