Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Giveaway #4

Question: What do you want to see on Dramabeans in 2012? This is your chance to tell us that one thing you’ve always wanted to see on DB or what you want to see more of this year. Maybe that’s more of the same, or maybe you’ve got a wild ‘n crazy out-there idea. We are not averse to crazy. (As always, please use a valid email in the comment form. No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Prize: A 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus.

Winner announced: Sunday, January 29, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

I wish you would post soundtracks in dramas like you did in Coffee Prince and especially Soulmate! I worship the Soulmate playlist and still listen to the songs now. That page that I stumbled upon actually is what kept me coming back to this site and eventually becoming an avid reader of the recaps here. You don't have to download the songs, but a list of the songs would be nice, since some are hard to find. Congrats of your anniversary too!

I already like your website as it is but if you can add or do something more, we would really appreciate it. So, I took the liberty to suggest some ideas (if you do not mind).

- I would like Dramabeans to have more movie recap/review. I really enjoy Korean indie so if it's okay, please post or talk about Korean indie bands at least 1 artist/band every week.

-I know there's been a lot of rookie actors/actress (especially in saeguk dramas). You can talk about the new actors/actress that you've recently discovered or caught your eye and the reason why you like them. It can also be an actress/actor that are not rookie but it took them a while to get their name out there that you really like. You can also give us some background information about them.

-more recap on variety show (I really like KBS Happy Together). It's not that I do not like Running Man and 1n2d. It would be more fun if you could add at least one more variety show recap.

I really appreciate the recappers and this website as a whole for giving us information about dramas and variety show. I know it's hard for y'all to do this because you also have a life to live and not just do these, but I just really want to thank you for all your hard work for the past 5 years. I remember encountering Dramabeans for the first time back in July of 2007 and I have fallen in love with this website.

Congratulations and thank you Dramabeans, girlfriday, and everyone for the hard work :D

Thnx for all your recaps this site is one of my daily visits.

Would love to see some reviews on some older dramas that you have seen. Not like episode recaps but just a conclusion review. Which would be epic. Oh yeah as well as movie reviews.

Happy 5 Year Anniversary !!

The one thing that I would really like to see is your first impression of dramas which you don't recap... I'm not one of those people that scream that you must stick to a drama til the end and such, because really, it's not like we're paying you to sit through shitty dramas. Or for you to do quarterly recaps of family dramas which tend to have 30+ episodes, which I noticed that you are doing for Ojakgyo Brothers (Which, by the way, I am loving, so big thank you for that!).

more giveaways! haha just kidding <3

in all seriousness, i would love to see more movie reviews. ever since i got busier, it's been hard to commit to dramas bc they're so long so i've turned to movies. i feel like you ladies would give amazing insight to cultural things i may have missed or things that are just kind of lost in translation.

You guys do an amazing job already, but maybe some movie recaps? And of course if you added Soulmate to your old dramas recaps it would be great.

I would love to see a javabeans/girlfriday collaboration on your own drama script! You could set it up as a traditional recap but it would be your original story. I think you guys could give the Hong sisters a run for their money. :-)

I would love to see more interviews and news updates of popular actress/actors! I also love the idea of recapping older dramas that started the hallyu wave!

Thanks for all your hard work!

Read an earlier request for a picture of JB and GF - let's add the rest of the contributors to this list!

Also, I'm not sure if anyone follows Spill.com (and I haven't checked to see if this has already been suggested), but they provide movie reviews by animating their conversations. Maybe DB can enlist some talented artists to animate some of its podcasts (or select posts). This would be a fun alternative to an actual picture of all the contributors. I think it'd be fun because anything goes in animation - dress up the contributors in saeguk garb, draw themselves interacting with their favorite actors/actresses - oh, the possibilities.

The hard part would be finding people interested in doing the animating, though...

Can you do a K-actor/actress 101? Like the stuffs we may typically find in wiki but with more "meaty substance" added. I find your posts on some K-celebs very insightful but I would prefer to have a more periodic and up-to-date coverings. And if you agree to do it, please start with PARK SHI HOO. Thank you dramabeans. Cheers from Vietnam :)

I would love to see more recaps of older dramas. Many Korean drama watchers may not know of the older dramas that were really popular. It's a shame if they don't get to experience the heartache of childhood crushes meeting twenty years later to become lovers only to find out they're long lost siblings-- but wait, it's a mistake and they're just half siblings, but oh god now she has cancer! It's all a bunch of tear-jerking-wtf-goodness that is kdramas. It's essential!

I'm very lucky to have come across dramabeans. As a loyal reader for the last two years, I thank you javabeans, girlfriday, and all of the DB writers for this great blog where drama lovers from all over the world gather. Thank you!

I would love more Glossary and Pop Culture posts. They really help to understand to dramas. Once I get an idea, I feel like I start to really get dramas, rather than just reading subtitles.

Thanks for the great work!
Happy Anniversary!

yay! samsung galaxy tablet I Want I want I want!!!

Hey, DB I'd like you to make some 'live' report or just a report about korean movies in film festival in the states or near your place, and you can also interview the people who watch the movies, ask them about their opinions. So we knew how much appreciation they have for korean movies.
If you accidentally spotting the director or stars, you can interview them too. ^_^

More movie reviews would be appreciated too.

owh, almost forgot!

A drama special recap would be lovely too.
Many drama specials have wonderful story and their short so it's easier to recap, you don't need as much time as trendy drama.

More music features please - especially more artist profiles. Like everyone said in the podcast(s), Javabeans has fantastic taste in music, so I love learning about all these great bands via dramabeans, especially since it's difficult for a non-Korean speaker to find info elsewhere.

And speaking of which, more podcasts! SO much love for them!

Ooh, and what happened to Variety Roulette? If you could bend the space-time continuum juuust a little bit more...

Anyway, thanks for all your hard work these five years, it's been a ball (and may it continue to be for another fifty :D)

Happy New Year!

First i'd like to thank you all dramabeans family for the giveaways that you're sending out.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY and we'll always be loyal followers :)

As for you're question, well everyone is saying more movie reviews and I agree sure specially if you could rate them like how you did you're "drama ratings page" that would be awesome.

Also if there's a drama that you didn't recap and though it was good it'd be great if you point it out, not do a recap of the whole drama, just point out that it is worth watching, because if i'm not too sure to start watching an ongoing drama i usually look for your opinion, if u like it then it's probably worth the wait every week.

I'd really love it if you followed through the variety roulette that you guys started, I'm sure you must be busy but if you could do 1 variety every once in a while that would be perfect.

And the one thing that I'm sure everyone would love to see more of, is the cultural glossary about common words and common food.

I think I've asked for way too many things. oops :D
Just if you don't find a solution to the space, time, continuum dilemma then forget all that, just keep DB as it is the best place ever for anything related to k-dramas.

Well, I'd love to see more dramas being recapped (if it's possible) and maybe Facebook updates? or maybe a share link for facebook. oh yeah, maybe older drama recaps also?

But anyway, It's already good as it is.

Just a Million Thanks to K-drama goddesses (Javabeans and Girlfriday)! I really enjoy visiting and reading your recaps. :)

Thanks again for all your hard work. It's really helpful for us selecting drama to watch, 'cause as you know we still have work to live with *sigh*

at first i got into korean drama, because it was more asian drama, and who couldn't do with more asian dramas in their lives? and then i got more into watching it for the writing, the polished look, the almost westernized, hollywood feel compared with some of the more standard, cookie-cutter taiwanese dramas i had been watching before. and now i want to know more about korean culture, because i'm absorbing it and being influenced by it, and every time i see them eating on-screen i have a pavlovian response where i want to run out and grab some tteokbeokki. (and sometimes i do)

run-on sentences aside, i would like it if you had maybe a section at the end of select recaps where you discuss something more about korean culture as related to the drama at hand. sometimes i have questions about certain things that aren't explained, or i learn a couple of new things i never thought about when watching the drama. if you have the time -- god knows all the recaps you do probably already take 90% of your waking lives -- could you consider maybe making it a once-in-a-while thing? i love the glossary, and i love your recaps. but now you've got me completely hooked. like a spoiled kid, i feel like demanding more, more, more.

keep up the good work, and thanks to all of the recappers (and javabeans for starting and maintaining the site)!!!

I'm digging the site as is, but it would be shiny to see more variety shows put up.

I didn't even know about variety shows until I saw a post up for 1 Night 2 Days awhile back, and that opened up a whole new addiction. Variety shows have taken my sleep time.

I really want to be able to sign up and become a member of dramabeans! It'd be really awesome to be able to sign in and have like usernames, forums to discuss our favourite dramas with other people around the world and voice our opinions, not just on post comments, we could like have a list on our member pages of all the dramas we've watched.. yeah I'm getting a bit carried away but things like that!

I'd love... more podcasts, because I really enjoy hearing your thoughts on kdramas and what made a specific drama work (or not work) for you.

Something else I'd like to see would be more recaps of older shows - you've said before that you have time constraints due to needing to eat and sleep and whatnot, so instead of full recaps, perhaps a series overview or a recap of the first episode?

And because I don't think I've actually said it before: Happy Anniversary, Dramabeans! And thank you, Javabeans and Girlfriday, for your hard work not only on recapping, but podcasting and celeb/kdrama/movie news posts and... :)

I thought you were going to recap the Wild Romance. I'd love to see that recapped by you guys (although I don't know if it's gonna remain as fun as the first 4 episode.) I'd also like to see more challenging dramas and see your recap again!!! Dramas have been VERY boring for sometime now.

I also hope I win the prize! I didn't comment on the other giveaways because I was not that much interested in the prizes and didn't want to stand in the way of those who were hoping for the prize, but this time I shall be very pleased if I win :D

Everything's perfect drama-related, really.
But perhaps during awards time, wouldn't it be fun to have someone in the fashion industry review the clothes and makeup? Korea is really becoming a major player in the fashion and beauty world, setting trends and so on. So it would be nice if someone can put the red carpet in context....

ditto with the movie recaps (if someone is willing to), i've been in touch with kdramas for years but haven't watched more than 5 k-movies in my life, so it would be nice to get some feedback on movies. granted, this place is called dramabeans, and what you guys are doing is too good to be true already.

also to expand on a previous comment in this discussion, something like a timeline/profile on producers/directors/writers - not exactly a directory with titles that we can google up, but their particular niches, and commentary, and is also open to discussion (because what you guys have that some websites don't is a community, the social aspect)

another thing which may be more difficult to implement (unless there is a technical person at hand) is more organization in the comments section. it becomes difficult to thumb through hundreds of comments in the more popular articles, though there are many insightful comments and threads. there was another suggestion of a forum- i'm not suggesting a separate forum entirely, but somewhere similar and simpler, an upgraded format on threads with titles/prompts for further discussion which can help ease navigation.

First, you guys are doing an amazing job as-is. You're the best k-drama blog out there, period, and you inspire me & many others daily.

As far as possible improvements? Maybe more movie recaps or older drama reviews would be nice. I love the explaining-Korean-culture posts, too.

More selfishly, I'd love to know how you do all this (that, or where the secret door to the fourth dimension is). Some kind of "time management for k-drama recappers" post would make my year.

Finally, I'd like to know more about contributors (guest posters included) from pics to background to...you name it. Even short, text-only bios would be nice.

Thanks for 5 years of great blogging!

Hello and thank you!

There are a few things:

* First, keep on doing what you are doing :) You guys are the best - no dispute there!

* Continue variety roulette series

* Older drama reviews/recommendations or maybe even recaps, if there is someone who is up to it? MNIKSS was so good, I rewatched it and read the recaps after watching an episode and found the experience very entertaining and informative at the same time.

Again thank you for your efforts, they are highly appreciated.

Yours in gratitude,

I would love to see more movie reviews.

Otherwise I'd like to keep Dramabeans the same - always love the drama recaps, but I do like some people's suggestion of recapping some older dramas too! I wouldn't mind more posts explaining cultural elements that us non-Koreans have no clue about (especially very subtle things) - i.e. more extended glossary entries.

It's difficult to find then buy/rent out a bunch of Korean movies around here. Especially on a poor college student's budget. :(

I would also love more posts related to fashion. I know this is more of a drama-related site, but I love it when you guys cover red carpet photos.

Lastly, I love your podcasts and I find them to be hilarious and I feel like a vlog would be as equally awesome to watch. It'd be double the fun. Haha.
