Master’s Sun: Episode 17 (Final)

We’ve reached the end of another Hong sisters drama, and I’m happy to say there are no sudden whiplash-inducing turns in the final hour. I guess on the flipside there are few surprises left in store, but if those are the options, I’ll stick to what’s tried and true and save my neck, thank you very much. The finale went out on a series ratings high of 21.8%, so at least we know the producers got their happy ending. Now to find out if Taeyang got hers…

FINAL EPISODE RECAP

Joong-won finds Gong-shil at his hotel rooftop bar, just over a year since he let her go. They sit down for a drink and he asks if her date is a ghost, and she says nonchalantly that she doesn’t see ghosts anymore.

She says that she’s different now, having traveled the world and even made some money, though she remains vague about the how. She says she bought a house in England too.

He’s busy preparing for the grand opening of Kingdom’s new mall in Shanghai with his ex-fiancée’s company, and plans to be out of the country for a few years. Oh don’t tell me we have to go through another round of Please Don’t Go at the airport. Please no.

He asks again if she really doesn’t see ghosts, and she says it’s true. So then he purposely tests her by offering her a drink. Oh no, by the way her eyes are shaking at the gesture, it looks like he’s about to call her bluff.

He pours her a celebratory drink for finding her radar’s off-switch, and sits back. She braces herself and downs the glass, and then another. She hurries him off to his meeting that he’s already late for and says their timing is off today, and leaves first.

As soon as she gets down to the lobby, her ghost date appears at her side—a lady who went splat off the rooftop bar, who wanted one last drink there. Gong-shil complains that it’s all her fault that she ran into Joong-won this way. She wanted to see him as just Tae Gong-shil, not the ghost-seeing radar she always was. But now it’s ruined and she walks away sullenly.

She takes a cab home alone, and suddenly changes her destination with the cab driver, insisting they stop to pick up a shovel first. “There’s a tree root sticking into my side and I’m going to yank it out!” Creepy. The ajusshi says there isn’t anything here, and she just answers, “Have you ever been buried in the dirt?”

That scares the daylights out of him, and he starts to panic. Just then, Joong-won pulls up alongside the cab and yells at them to pull over. Oh phew. He still doesn’t know any of this, and has come to chase Gong-shil down, timing be damned.

But as soon as he gets to the cab, the driver insists he take her away. He realizes she’s possessed, and tells the ghost to get lost. He grabs her by the shoulders and as the spirit goes poof, she falls into his arms, unconscious.

He just melts into the hug and wraps his arms all the way around her, and says that if it was because of ghosts, he’ll forgive her. He just stands there holding her for a long moment.

Next thing we know, it’s morning, and he’s lying in bed holding her hand and watching her sleep. D’aw. As soon as she opens her eyes he smiles, “Are you awake? You’re wondering, ‘How much did I want to sleep with this man that I’m dreaming this,’ aren’t you?”

She’s still not sure what’s real, and he just keeps going: “Are you thinking that if you’re dreaming this, it might as well be 19+? Want me to cooperate?” Rawr. He pulls her closer, and that’s when she darts up (with hands clasped over chest) and gasps.

She demands to know what happened, and he notes that she really IS different from the Gong-shil who used to throw herself at him. He fills her in on the taxi rescue, and she cringes, “Was I… okay?”

Joong-won: “I wasn’t okay. Last night you seduced me… in a variety of ways.” He buries his head in his hands to fake-cry for emphasis. Lol.

In flashback we see the parade of ghosts that possessed her, from the ice cream mania little girl ghost, to the kitty ghost (“Meow?” “Meow.” Hahahaha), to the Parisian seductress who tested his fortitude. “As soon as I touch you, you’ll go away. I can’t give you what you want! It’s hard for me to sleep just holding your hand too!”

She doesn’t listen and caresses his face seductively… which of course means the ghost poofs right out and she falls on top of him. Ha. He gasps aloud (at no one): “There is a limit to my resolve, you know!”

But in the morning when she asks hesitantly if she did anything weird last night, he tells her she was just her drunk self, with no ghost visitors. Aw. She sighs in relief to hear that she was just a drunk and handsy version of herself.

Another flashback to earlier last night shows her in exactly that state, when he was holding her hand and she woke up as herself. She presses his hand into her cheek and swoons, “I missed you.”

He asks if she needed her emergency shelter because she still sees ghosts, but she shakes her head no—she just really really really wanted to see him. She admits that she couldn’t find a way to get rid of her abilities and live like a normal person.

He guesses that’s why she didn’t come to him, and she tells him that she had a fantasy scenario in mind just in case: she’d show up in front of him as this amazing version of herself and he’d fall head over heels, and then once he had fallen for her, she’d admit that she still sees ghosts. And… that’s different from the first time how?

Joong-won: “I’ve already fallen! Why does it matter what the order is?” THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYING. She insists it matters, and that she wanted him to see her as a woman, not as the ghost radar.

Back in the present, she apologizes for last night and gets up to go, and he tells her that he got her number while she was sleeping. Heh. She tells him not to call her first, so he asks permission to text, which she grants. As she walks out, he puts a fist up in the air: “Tae Gong-shil, do your best to seduce me. Fighting!”

Uncle sees her on her way out, and reports to Aunt that he doesn’t think Joong-won will be getting over Gong-shil anytime soon. He’s pleased as punch, of course, and says that Joong-won will be smiling brightly (bang-shil bang-shil, using her nickname as a pun) from now on.

Aunt scowls, and Uncle pouts that she puts Joong-won first before him, which she doesn’t even deny. He jokes that they should have a child so he has someone on his side, and she glares again.

Unni gets the call that Gong-shil is back, and Han-joo is now head of security at Kingdom. He wonders if Gong-shil is going to take responsibility for the fact that Joong-won’s got a few screws loose ever since she left (the rumor is that he sits on a bench and talks to himself every day, ha).

Han-joo says emphatically that a woman ought to take responsibility: “I mean, you and I spent all those nights… with the… you know… and aren’t you going to take responsibility for me?” Hee. Unni casually agrees to marry him, like she’s saying okay to dinner and a movie, and he immediately starts planning their wedding.

Kang Woo is working at jobs much more suited to his training, guarding ambassadors and diplomats. Yi-ryung is as obsessed as ever, sending her manager to stalk Kang Woo by proxy when she’s busy. She gets caught red-handed of course.

Kang Woo meets Yi-ryung by the river late at night to complain about the needless worrying, but she pouts that all they ever do is meet secretly, so how is she supposed to rest easy when he isn’t hers?

He still calls her the black-mustached whale, and tells her that they meet in secret to protect her. She lights up at that and asks if that means his heart is hers. She asks him to prove it by going to the movies with her—by which she means red carpet and cameras and publicly dating. He realizes now that that’s her world, and wonders if he can stand next to her.

Gong-shil returns to her gosiwon rooftop room with Unni, who wonders why she wants to come back here. Gong-shil says she’s comfortable here, and actually plans to buy the gosiwon whole-hog. What.

It turns out she wasn’t lying about making some money—while in Europe she chased a horde of ghosts out of an abandoned building, fixed it up, and sold it for a huge chunk of cash. Unni still wonders why she’s buying this building of all buildings if she’s loaded, and Gong-shil says she really likes it here, plus someone once told her that if she at least owned this building, he’d give her the time of day. Ha.

She says that Chun-hee is still abroad but has plans to return to Korea, and that she’s going to go back to school.

The next day she goes to the realtor to meet with the gosiwon’s owner, and in walks Secretary Kim. Pwahaha, Joong-won bought it, didn’t he? Yup, Secretary Kim is just here to take her to the meeting, and she gets taken to Kingdom. Joong-won is being a hardass about the price, though he notes that if she were to return a certain man’s calls, he might lower the asking price.

She isn’t interested in romancing the seller for a discount, and leaves the meeting resigned to take care of this herself with money. He pleads adorably: “At least answer the texts!” She agrees.

Once she’s gone, Secretary Kim needles him to say that he bought that building because “someone” called it the most comfortable rooftop in all of Seoul. Joong-won keeps up his front about buying it to convert for his part-time employees… but also because “someone” might say that she’d prefer to rest there over his fancy villas.

Joong-won tells him that he’s trying to wait patiently because she wants things done in a certain order, and Secretary Kim points out that Joong-won’s never been one to wait when he wants something. Hee. Joong-won immediately looks up at him with childlike can-I-really eyes.

Aunt goes to the doctor to hear the results of her physical, anticipating the worst because she’s been feeling sick lately. She braces herself… and then the doctor tells her she’s pregnant. Omo. She’s shocked, and refrains from telling hubby about it for now.

Gong-shil walks through Kingdom, and the trashcan ghost stops her with a lid-flip and a huge grin. She greets the ajusshi warmly, but then when Joong-won approaches, she pretends nothing is there.

Joong-won offers to talk gosiwon prices over lunch or dinner, but when she says she has plans, he quickly says he’s got plans all the time too. When she shows a little interest in the fact that he’s been on a bunch of blind dates, he wonders aloud how many he ought to say he went on, to make her react. I love that he always says this stuff out loud in front of her.

He says pointedly that this isn’t the time for doing things in the proper order, and she needs to snatch him up before he gets married off. She catches his wording and asks if she said something while she was drunk, and he admits that she laid out her plans. “But I don’t care whether or not you see that ajusshi sitting over there.”

She only now realizes he knows the whole truth—that she still sees ghosts. He asks if she still doesn’t like herself because of it, and she doesn’t answer. Suddenly trashcan ghost gets up and follows a mom and daughter walking by, and Gong-shil gapes to see him get up from his bench.

She starts to follow him, and Joong-won insists, “Ajusshi is MY friend! I’m going too!” They follow the pair to the wedding hall, and Mom and Daughter eventually tell them that Dad passed away three years ago after winning the lotto but losing the ticket in a trashcan. Gong-shil tells the ajusshi that his family is happy and well without that lotto money, and he doesn’t need to hold onto his regret any longer.

Ajusshi’s wife and daughter decide that having a wedding at Kingdom is out of their price range, but Joong-won comes down to tell them that Dad was a friend of his, and asks to let him pay for the wedding as a token of gratitude. Aww.

Gong-shil admits that she can still see ghosts, and Joong-won asks if her year changed nothing. She says that she went to all the places she had been in the three years she was a spirit, and found that she had met countless ghosts. What she realized was that her ability to see them was her choice.

She met so many people with no one to listen to them that she had made the promise that she’d return to her body and continue to see and help them—that promise is what made her shine so brightly. Yay. Now THIS was what I was waiting for. (Though it would’ve been nice to be with her in the moment of discovery, not be told about it after the fact. Where’s the dramatic oomph?)

She tells Joong-won that she’s okay with ghosts now and doesn’t hate herself for being able to see them. Chun-hee even taught her ways to cope with her fear and deal with them, since he’s been doing this a lot longer.

Downstairs in the coffee shop, we see Chun-hee flip through the photo book and close it, wondering if he did right by Gong-shil and put her on the right path. He urges the coffee ghost to move on too, and he finally does with one last smile.

Upstairs, Joong-won suddenly jumps up in a jealous outburst to make sure Chun-hee was just a guide and not her emergency shelter. She points out that he ate all those (blind date) dinners with Aunt, but he confesses: “I didn’t eat! Do you know how long I waited and starved because of you?!”

She smiles, “Do you want to have dinner then?” He immediately softens, “Now?” She says coolly that she’ll call, and he gets all ragey: “You said you were going to seduce me! When are you going to call?!” Hahaha. She tells him to go convince the trashcan ajusshi to move on, and he barks at her to call him.

Aunt sees her on her way out, and she asks if Gong-shil is planning to play around with Joong-won’s feelings again. She says no—this time she’s going to hold on and not let go. Well thank goodness for that.

Aunt notes that she’s different, and Gong-shil says she is too. She can see that there’s another little soul in her belly, and says it’s weak and will need Aunt to protect it. Aunt warns her not to tell anyone, since she hasn’t decided what to do about it yet.

Gong-shil says that making a decision is hard, the outcome always uncertain, and even still there might be pain down the road. “Loving someone doesn’t always mean sharing happiness. But the choice is up to each individual.” Aunt asks if they’re talking about Joong-won or the baby, and Gong-shil says she’s talking about people loving people.

Meanwhile Joong-won is busy trying to convince the ajusshi to move on, insisting that he can’t sit here forever holding onto his regret. He says that he could’ve married the chaebol heiress and had way more than a lotto ticket’s worth in profits, but he doesn’t have regrets.

Ajusshi flips the lid to call him on the lie, and Joong-won admits he has a teensy bit of regret, but has let it go, “Because the woman I love is the sun up there in the sky.” He pats himself on the back for his own awesomeness, and asks ajusshi to flip the lid to say he’s awesome.

He admits sheepishly that she doesn’t just shine to the dead, but makes his eyes hurt because she shines so brightly. And then he asks ajusshi if he can get married before his daughter does.

Aunt sits in her office thinking over Gong-shil’s words that choosing love means she won’t be lonely, because in exchange for the difficulty of protecting a love, she’ll be rewarded with bright moments of laughter and warmth. She imagines a future with a little girl of her own, and begins to warm to the idea of a family.

Gong-shil comes home in time to say goodbye to the neighbor boys, who are moving out with Mom. Kang Woo comes by to help them move, and they share a drink up on the roof. He congratulates her on overcoming her fear and she tells him to protect Little Sun. He sighs that he needs courage to pass through the “red road” to do so, and wonders if he can.

Aunt sits through dinner silently while Uncle talks about packing their anniversary vacation plans with all kinds of extreme sports. She finally tells him that she can’t because she has to have a baby, and asks, “I’m so old that sometimes I forget if your name is Seok-chul or Chul-seok. Will I be able to have this child?” Ha.

He comes to her side and tells her that he loves her. She asks for his help because she’s going to need it, and he grabs her in a hug, overcome with joy.

Yi-ryung gets ready for a movie premiere and wonders if it was asking too much. But Kang Woo shows up just in time and says he’ll try walking that scary red road with her. She sticks out her arm and says he can grab it if he gets scared, and she won’t let go. Cute.

Secretary Kim hands Gong-shil her deed to the gosiwon that’s now hers, and she frowns that Joong-won didn’t budge on the price one freaking penny. He promises her it’s worth the price, and she thanks him for everything, saying that if he hadn’t stopped the car that stormy night, she’d never have met Joong-won in the first place.

He says he’s always been on her side, and says that it feels like watching his child grow up under the warm sun. He urges her to have patience with Joong-won if he acts arrogant, and stay by his side always.

Joong-won sits at home staring at his phone, wondering if tonight will be the night she calls. It finally rings (he’s saved her number as “Death’s Sun” [jook-eum = death] and geez Show, if you were gonna fudge the pun that way, we’d have called it that from the beginning).

She officially invites him over and he officially accepts, and they both run around getting ready for the big date. She decks out the rooftop and apologizes for the sweetness, but he says he’s into sweet stuff now and presents her with a giant bouquet of flowers. He’s even swapped his ascot for a bowtie!

She acts like this is a first date and says she owns this building, and that she will occasionally act differently when drunk, or start conversing with invisible people. She tells him to think of it like she’s answering a call, and he agrees that she should answer important calls.

She says that it might be difficult because she has this whole other world, but he counters that you can never know another person’s world completely. She knows she might make life hard for him sometimes, “But I don’t want to be sad or lonely without you.” What a nice twist on the classic Candy line. Screw being sad and lonely!

She tells him that she’s going to be by his side, but you can see his face fall at the lack of an “I love you.” But she continues: “Because you’re special to me. Because I love you.” She promises to love him lots, and introduces herself: “I’m Tae Gong-shil. Taeyang. Can I rise by your side?”

He’s happy, until he realizes that this was the reason she invited him here tonight. He gets up and says he won’t accept it, because he was under the impression she was going to ask him to stay and never leave.

He says he’s going to live by her side from now on (implying that he wants to marry her), and opens his hand. The sun necklace is in his palm. “I have never once let you go. Because Tae Gong-shil is my sun, without which the earth would be destroyed.”

She thanks him for not letting her go, and gives him a little kiss. He pulls her in for another, and another.

We get a final glimpse of our happy couples. Aunt and Uncle plan for the baby with fear and excitement. Kang Woo finally steps foot on that red carpet with Yi-ryung, and she asks if a kiss would be too much. He promises one later and she relents, saying it’s gotta be really long. Han-joo and Unni promise to be each other’s soulmates.

A flashback to that first stormy night reminds us of Gong-shil and Joong-won’s first touch that shocked her with its electricity. On the rooftop now, she wonders if maybe her ghost-seeing ability helped her see that he was special to her, so she could grab him at once. Ahem, some of us may argue about the once—we lived through it, remember?

He calls her ability very useful. He vetoes her idea to go watch the sunrise at the ocean though, arguing that the sun “rises wherever,” still miffed about her rising elsewhere with another man for a year.

She takes issue with the wording, but he says his world stayed dark for a year, so she has the obligation to seduce him properly, HERE, NOW. She says she does have a certain thing planned to seduce him, and he says she has one move, after which he’s going to stop waiting and just do whatever he wants. Rawr. Can we just skip to that part?

She says she met Steve Jobs (Hahaha—this is your big seduction plan?) and plays coy until he pleads with her to share a few trade secrets. She whispers them into his ear as they giggle and snuggle, and he finally kisses her to make her spill the beans.

GIRLFRIDAY’S COMMENTS

That was cute, though I will admit that sixteen episodes of foreplay and a couple of kisses is a little weaksauce, especially when your wordplay gets to be so salacious. That’s par for the course with the Hong sisters though, who let their heroines talk a big game but keep their romances light and sweet. I’m all for a happy ending with ribbons and bows where a rom-com is concerned, and at least with the extension the finale didn’t feel rushed in any way. On the downside, both the last episode and this one felt slow by comparison to the rest of the series, and much of the final separation angst felt completely needless given the fact that we simply return to familiar dynamics.

I get that the year apart earns Gong-shil perspective and a change in attitude, and most importantly the chance to love herself, which is a delightful theme to end on. It’s just that Chun-hee was wasted by being brought in so late he hardly mattered, and there was no tension in the Go/Don’t Go/No Really I Have To Go when we knew she’d come back and they’d still have to figure things out then. Joong-won’s growth was resolved quite early by comparison, so he pretty much spent the last few episodes just waiting for her.

I’m really glad she didn’t lose her ghost-seeing ability, because it’s what makes Taeyang Taeyang, and I’m much more interested in her acceptance of herself than being free of the burden altogether. I do wish we had gone on that trip with her and been there the moment she recovered that crucial memory, and realized that she chose this for herself because she couldn’t turn away from the plight of others. That’s heroic and noble and I wanted the delivery to land better. In the end though, she went from strictly needing Joong-won as an emergency shelter to wanting him for him, which is a love I can get behind. He doesn’t ask her to change and she learns to stand on her own two feet, and chooses love on her terms. The motivation and the reasoning works for me on a large scale, though honestly a lot of the “No I can’t go to you yet” didn’t because… uh… there’s logic, and then there’s love. I was mostly in Joong-won’s camp, because at a certain point when you KNOW that both people love each other, you’re just screaming, Screw proper order! I freaking love you! C’mere!

In that sense the artifice did start to show in the final act, where the couple’s longing for each other outweighed any reason for them to be apart, and it really did feel like the show was sending them to their separate corners ’cause it had episodes to fill. But by and large Gong-shil’s trajectory as a character had a nice steady upward climb, and I loved that she was always the anti-Candy who didn’t suffer quietly and swallow her pain. Instead she found herself a shelter when she was scared, put herself first when she realized she disliked the person she’d become, and then chose love when she was ready.

I do think this is a show carried by chemistry, because there were a lot of missteps in secondary storylines (Ghosty Twins of Who Gives a Fuck, anyone?) and a strange practice of deflating its own stakes (What kind of lifetime contract of doom and evil portent for the price of a human life can be bought with cash and swept under the rug?) that would’ve clunked harder had we not been so swept up by the romance that everything else just fell under two categories: (1) Things That Deterred Romance, and (2) Things That Helped Romance Along. But the magical combination of two great leading characters and actors who clicked together greased what would’ve been some rough turns. I still can’t promise I’ll watch So Ji-sub’s melos, but I absolutely adore him in comedy now. And I already watch everything Gong Hyo-jin is in.

This show did feel like the Hong sisters were back on their game with the witty wordplay, the double (and sometimes triple) entendre, and the overarching mythology that backed its internal logic. Truthfully it never went to an epic place for me, and even when it did pull out some life-and-death stakes, it pulled us out of danger pretty quickly. But it was satisfying the whole way through, and there’s something to be said for a light contemporary love story that hits the right spot. And despite Bitter Pill and Anti-Candy’s efforts to the contrary, it was sweet.

JAVABEANS’ COMMENTS

Ahh, a sweet ending after all. There were no big twists in this final hour and the episode served up pretty much what I expected, but it’s also what I wanted, so all in all I’m pretty satisfied. In fact, for a Hong sisters finale this is a downright winner. (My favorite ending of theirs is Delightful Girl Chun-hyang, but I may have to name this second place. Not bad, show, not bad at all.)

I was expecting stuff to change in the year jump, but I like that the time skip didn’t automatically provide a magical—offscreen!—fix to the problem, as so many finales do. (The writers themselves perpetrated a particularly egregious example of that in Big, where the hero goes away, then comes back, and nothing has really changed while time offers the illusion of change. Boo. So it’s a relief to see that they can fix their mistakes.)

As nice and neat as it would have been for Gong-shil to go away and find herself and come back to Joong-won as a ghost-free and independent woman, it would have been rather convenient. Instead what she comes to terms with is her own feelings about her abilities, no longer thinking that they make her a pathetic or miserable person. I guess there’s an argument to be made for why they couldn’t just decide to be together with her ghost powers intact in the first place, since they could have decided that two episodes ago and ended in a similar place. But I suppose the character had to arrive at that point herself and grow on her own—as Joong-won notes, the goddamned order of events is important, even if the ending itself is a foregone conclusion, and so he waits. As a result Gong-shil finds her independence anyway, and whaddaya know, she can be independent and ghost-seeing. So now we see that her sense of self can prevail even without ridding herself of the sixth sense, which may actually be a stronger and more meaningful message.

I cut the show a teeny bit of slack for its pacing because of the extension—this episode does feel like it could have been better (and less meandering) if we’d smooshed the last two episodes into one. Which was probably the original plan, which is why I’m fine with it. In fact, given that they had to draw out the material I’m even a little bit pleased at the result, because we got some time to stay with the characters while they’re in their happy zone and enjoy the wrap-up, rather than hurtling toward the conclusion and then getting two seconds to see them come together at the very end.

The Hong sisters are so averse to the grandly cheesy romantic ending that they have an overwhelming tendency to consciously subvert those moments, which works really well for the meat of a drama (comedy undercuts scenes before they get drippy with sentimentality), but for a finale sometimes we just want the sentimentality, okay? We want the kiss and the smiles and the promises of happily ever after, and then maybe one more round of it with a cherry on top, for the road. Because the show’s over and this is the last time we’ll get to live with these characters, so howsabout a little bit of indulging in the romance? Nobody wants a finale drive-by! Smoochies and extra smoochies most welcome.

I just finished watching episodes 16 and 17 back-to-back, and I had a great time!

Yes, I love the main couple, but can I also give a thumbs up to Uncle and Secretary Kim? I love how adoring Uncle is both of Aunt and of "Bang-shil" (in 2 different ways of course). Even though Uncle is a relatively new addition to the family, I can see that he really cares for Joong-won, and also Uncle is hilarious. A 5 year anniversary full of horseback riding across Mongolia and sky diving?! He cracks me up. And Secretary Kim, I was so glad we got to see the moment when he told Gong-shil how much he'd supported her from the start. :-).

Also, thank you for Tae Yi-ryung for being consistently enjoyable to watch. After what she went through, I'm glad she got her man!

So thank you, Show, for both scaring me and making me laugh, especially early on. A little of that early creepiness came back in the taxi cab scene. I remembered how scared I used to be watching the show ;-). And Joong-won has always consistently made me laugh - he definitely didn't disappoint in this episode. Mostly I was glad to see Gong-shil smiling again - they were so happy together in the last scene. Joy

Oh. My. God. It. Has. Ended.
How am I supposed to spend the rest of the boring mid-week? I really wish The Heirs would be a great replacement. Not that I am hoping the chemistry between the actors will equal So-Gong, but... Kim Woo-bin is worth to be waiting for.

I am curious - what are you planning on watching next. Heir seems to Candy for me. I watched 2 episodes of Secret and going to jail, because she loves "HIM" seems so silly....rather you agreed with GS year long trip to find herself at least it makes sense for a 'thinking woman' to want to make her own decisions without being the sacrificial lamb.

I will miss each of you and your comments:(

Next drama on my list is "Unemployment Romance" starting October 5. Heirs seem like something I would watch if I was back in high school and does seem too "Candy". Plus, I can't stand Lee Min Ho.

Back to the drama, what I really love is how Tae Yang accepted her ghost-seeing with a strong sense of confidence. Because of it, she really radiates and I really like this new Tae Yang. And So Ji Sub was fantastic in this comedy genre but Gong Hyo Jin really was the main factor of why I enjoy this drama. She's always the best in this category. And I am glad that small Tae Yang also gets her man after her chasing. She, too, deserve her man. :)

Ah - what a nice ride. It didn't completely live up to my expectations, and i've already got the gist of hong sister's light, sweet romance in all their shows so the lack of a home run isn't all that disappointing. Still, like you said GF. All foreplay and.. barely anything. ha
This show has somewhat redeemed the Hong Sisters from the mess that was Big last year.

SBS is really going to have something to brag about, having their dramas in the 20%'s. They must love the fact that they've had this much luck where all the popular dramas this year happened to be on their station back to back

I miss them already :( how sad!

Despite that this is the last ep. that we can see them, the ending satisfied me. I love that Taegong finally realized and be able to accept who she is, rather than avoid it. I think this is a realistic way of living. In many cases, we can't avoid problems, the only solution is to accept and to live with them. I think one year gap is worthy, even though we could not see the process during that one year. And out of all, I love how Sojisub showed more of childish movement in the show. I can't imagine that he would do it! Also, it's very rare to see this side of his. It is one thing that I am really thankful to the Hong sisters. Hehehehe.

For Gonghyojin, there's no question of her being a rom-com queen. I really enjoy her acting. Actually, most of her dramas are my favorite :) hehehe. I would like to praise everyone in the team. Seriously at first I still cannot differentiate between Greatest Love and The Master Sun because of the similarly character, same main actress and writers, everything just reminded me of Greatest Love, however, at the end, I didn't see them as Greatest Love but my love The Master's Sun. Everyone tried so hard, and it worked! Thank you all the team :)

And, Girlfriday, I'm with you! I know I really love himmmmmm. But I still cannot make myself watching his melodramas. I heard it's good, he's great in the shows but... but... I just don't wanna cry :(. And I love his rom-com character now. Oppa should quickly choose his new project nowwwwww!

Thank you very much for all of recaps!

Thought Gong-shil had more Mi-ho characteristics (from MGIAG) than Gong Hyo-jin's character in TGL/BL who was a bit too mopey and not proactive.

But Joong-won definitely had elements of Dokko Jin.

But GHJ's acting was superb as usual.

Also thought that Gong-shil going abroad and Joong-won waiting was very reminiscent of "Coffee Prince" - where both female leads had to go find themselves and accomplish something on their own in order to come back and be on a more equal footing w/ their Chaebol partner.

My first Hong Sister's drama. I enjoyed it overall.

Something I can't get over is that we don't know what happened to Woo Jin and his mom. He was one of the most important ghosts and his story is just dropped. Otherwise, nice ending, but not Woo Jin would make me give it a 4/5.

I think it was left open because it was a way to say she can't change everything. Like the gambler and guy who passed out in the street. My take is that she got his mom safely back to the hospital where they now know she is suicidal. It is now the moms choice to live and if she does then Woo
Jin can move on. Until then he will stay. It's not like she can tell a distraught mom her kid is watching, it might make her more suicidal. Just my thoughts. :)

I saved most of my comments for the friend I watched this with. Noting colors, etc (Like the color returns and how brightly lit the night is at the end and the hands...). I'm really satisfied. I love the gender reversals, etc.

I have to wonder what it would be like for this drama to show up on "Name that Drama?"

Would it be the guy that spins the trash can...

A woman dressed in white that likes to talk to ghosts?

How would this show up on Name that Drama?

Oh and I watched the triple kiss a lot of time. *^^* I'm a sucker for the smile before the kiss and the woman also initiating...

Hong Sisters can do subtle. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

This is a show I'd watch from beginning to end all over again with no regrets. You get so much from a rewatch.

Hey KimYoonMi! I really enjoyed your detailed analyses on the early episodes, I'd noted the colour changes in their clothing (especially Joong-won's) through the last handful of eps, but I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say on it too, esp. for this episode.

I love how lovingly this show shoots hands, and touching in general. I mean, of course touching is central to the premise of the show so that explains the way they frame and film it, but I love how the hands come into play all the time, and how they're shot to make somewhat-underwhelming-in-itself lip contact even sexier (the hands hovering over her bare back in the plaid dress in the ghost-possession kiss, his hand tightening at her back and her fingers curling on his chest in response during the rooftop kiss, and here, his hand framing her face/hers rising to stroke his back)

Thanks for recapping this series, girlfriday and javabeans!

Loved the ending - way better than what I would have expected from the Hong sisters whose endings tend to be too rushed. I'm glad we eased into it (and all the callbacks to earlier moments in the series!) and got to say goodbye to everyone. We even got to say goodbye to the Trash Can ghost and Coffee ghost. My cheeks had ended up hurting from grinning.

And it is refreshing to see the secondary leads find love and be happy. The story is pretty flawed, but I think having all the likable and redeeming characters (Yi-ryung and even the aunt) had me invested in the story. And the truly evil characters didn't get much screentime.

I'm sad about Chun-hee's character, though. Wish they did more with him or just reduce his role to a quick cameo.

My favorite ending for a Hong sisters drama is still from DGCH and this is close second for me, too!

Thank you so much for the recaps.
I am really bumped that the show is over BUT I am glad that underneath it all, there were a few takeaways. Acceptance.
GS accepting who she was and in her own way change and grew into a stronger woman. Love JW for letting her go cause he knew that both of them needed to grow in their own way - which helped in understanding each other better even though it killed him to let her go as there wasn't a moment he did not think of her. Like she was the first and the last thing he thought of when he is awake and abt to sleep.
Too much cuteness.
I have kind of pyscho all my friends to watch this drama and everyone's hooked on it. It's our topic whenever we meet and chat. So happy that its a good ending though i wish there was more TLC between them.
Totally love JW sulking and harping over GS not calling/responding/texting. It's like so sweet lole a kid and all he wanted was attention. He cared more abt her than his daily kingdom job.
All in all, it reminded me of this phrase "If The Love Is True, It Can Handle The Wait. True Love Stands The Test of Time."

If I get what your saying correctly, then it was a bit of play on words. He enjoyed that she was in his house, under his care, and was a bit sexually frustrated that he could not do ( he is a gentleman) what the French ghost knew he wanted to do with Gong Shil. He embellished some, but her just being there meant everything to him. Her drunken confession of missing him didn't help. Sometimes just being in the same room with someone you love is a seduction itself.

I might have wanted a little lip movement allowed for GHJ in that last kiss, but all in all, Master's Sun is a winner - the biggest the Hong sisters have had since (wait for it) my Girlfriend is a Gumiho.

And what an OTP we got - for chemistry, they win even over MGIAG and YAB, imo (my fav. Hong sisters couples). I get that the Hong Sisters don't do passionate kisses (the closest they ever came was in My Girl) but it's a testament to So Ji-sub and Gong Hyo-jin's chemistry that almost every moment they were in contact made me giddy inside, even if they were just looking at each other - if they'd been allowed to kiss properly, I imagine there'd be a barren nuclear wasteland where dramabeans is standing right now! (and bed scene, rawr. That ending was such a tease!)

And do not even get me started on all the shots of the HANDS. I didn't know hands could be this sexy in close-up until now, literally every time he touched her I swear I felt things. I've seen So Ji-sub and Gong Hyo-jin in a fair few things and liked them both, but they've never been hotter than they are here together, even with his clown-bright clothes (which I noticed he ditched, as his character changed from cold and money-minded to, well, sun-warmed) and I really hope they'll work together again some day. Make it happen, movie gods! (and let them kiss again. Properly, this time!)

All in all, I like the finale - it's a neat wrap, our hero and heroine BOTH get to grow and change as characters (the latter getting to do that is a bit rare for kdramas), everyone's happy, and they had to tease us with the Parisian seduction scene, which has me imagining just how combustible it would be if that scene were acted out between Joong-won and Gong-shil for real.

(final note: I really, really love the OST, especially the instrumental version of the final track played as we close out, by Oh Jun-seong - I'm not so fond of the vocal version, but reading the translated lyrics gives me goosebumps because it's that perfect for Joong-won and Gong-shil falling in love).

To me the moment when GS slipped her hand inside his jacket was actually more intimate than the kiss, the swoony moment for the kiss itself was actually when JW pulls her face closer to him (but when their lips met and do well..u know - nothing much)
But now i can't imagine what will happen if they properly kiss when watching those simple hand gestures and sweet kisses lead us all (i mean..me) to some sexy pervy thoughts , i think my screen would need a firehose too!

I vote for the movie. They should do another project together soon and a movie would allow them to bring on the HEAT!!! I pray that this drama rack up on the awards. I love watching them talking, arguing, negotiating, and yes - HOLDING HANDS...but I have not forgotten HIS HANDS caressing her hair (when she was with her old friends) how sexy was that!!! JW is simply very manly and hot - I appreciate both factors. The wonderful thing about his hotness is that he is not trying - he simply is. Some of the male actors are pretty womanish in their looks, clothes, and surgery - he is an Alpha male who fell in love and was determine to hold on to his precious sun.
I am also thankful that they GS - who looks like the girl next door played this role. It was great watching her being naive, fearful, sexy, confident, and vulnerable. I have been her fan for a long time and pray that she never falls into the plastic surgery trend. She and JW strikes me has down-to-earth 'suns/stars' you can hang out with.
I think I would love to see them during a thriller/action movie which requires JW to take off his shirt - protect GS in some remote house with snow and a fireplace ...and yes a passionate night of love making....some crazy man tries to kill GS...and JW torn between killing him or turning him in to the police - turns the attended killer in ....and GS flings herself into his arms thankful that it is all over ...and they end in the cottage withe the fireplace and snow falling.

i love the finale. probably the satisfying ending i ever watched this year.

i like how acceptance being a point in this ep.

gong shil accept that she can see ghost, and accept that joong won is special (i love you in the end!like finally!)

aunty accepts that she should give it a try protecting the little soul.

kang woo accepts yi ryung , and brave the red carpet w her.lol.

all those acceptance concluded well for all the couples in the show. even for our resident ghosts, they're given lead to accept and move on ( i almost thought they may forgotten about trashcan ahjusshi n coffee ghost.im so happy we finally have an idea what happened to them before they died/coma).

btw, joong won's ringtone while waiting for gong shil's call is phantom of the opera's ost. knowing that SJS acted in Ghost last year (and overused that song), i find this is hillarious.too punny.

and the final scenes of JW n GS giggling and all,i find those too good to be true.it's that an ad lib or something? as if so ji sub n gong hyo jin r having a good time over there (dating rumors anyone?)

I loved that JW never did the wrist grab/ forced kiss that you see in a lot of other dramas. He respected her choices till the end even when they didn't make sense to him.
I feel like the Hong sisters, the PD, SJS and GHJ know what a real relationship is like and that shows in subtle ways even when the OTP was doing pretty wacky things. A lot of romances in dramas seem to be written and acted by people who only know about romance in books and TV.
I will miss this drama. :(

Am I the only one who actually loves the truth about her ghost seeing powers? I liked how it didn't need to be some kind of huge secret, big reveal type of thing. I loved that it was because she made promises to help those who couldn't go back. And I also liked how Chun-Hee's character turned out. He wasn't trying to take TGS away for himself, but he was just someone who helps other spirits. He helped TGS and he used her as an example for Coffee Ghost (which I also loved). I like how Coffee Ghost was seeing TGS as a role model rather than wanting her help for some lame reason. All he wanted was Coffee which any student would want. I really like that. In my opinion, Bravo Hong Sisters!

As for the rest of the drama: 10/10. This is my absolute favorite drama of all time at the moment (sorry my beloved Coffee Prince, I still love you too). I like how aside from Hee Joo, every secondary character was likable. They had their flaws, but in the end I loved them all. TGS's sister was wonderful and supportive and I love how she agreed with TGS's decisions and helped her. I liked how even though little sun was jealous of TGS she wasn't cruel and still wished for her happiness. The characters seemed like real people and that is so refreshing in dramaland where evil mothers and scheming bad guys are so prominent.

That is the same reason why I disagree with the criticisms that some of the plot points were lame (Madame Go, TGS's leaving etc.). I enjoyed that the conflicts didn't seem contrived or blown out of proportion. Madame Go wasn't evil, she just wanted to do business so I would've been really frustrated if her involvement complicated things unnecessarily. And as for TGS leaving, although it might have been dragged a little long, I think it was necessary. I like that it didn't instantly solve her problems, but she needed to discover herself and gain more self-confidence. I like that she stuck to her guns that she wasn't just going to be Candy. While her character frustrated me at times, I think she was really admirable in the end. (And I'd much rather take leaving to discover who you are and love yourself over the lame and cliche, "I want to study in America" or "Your evil mother is pushing us apart and I love you too much to stop her" I mean really, those are just so ugh.)

In the end, this drama has seriously been my soul for the past couple months. I adore it for all that it is and love the feelings it brought me. I have never felt so deeply about a kdrama before and while everyone is entitled to their own opinion about this drama, nothing can spoil what in my mind is perfection. :) Bye, Master's Sun, I'll really miss you!

No, you are not the only one that loves Tae-Yang's reason for seeing ghosts. It makes sense given her character. If she had remember that promise when she woke up she might not needed a shelter.

Overall I loved the development of the OTP as individuals. I loved both Joong-Won's and Tea-Yang's character arc, it is their individual growth as people that convinces me that they will endure in the future as a couple.

A lot of posters have found Tae-Yang's refusal to accept a man who was eager to accept her as is, warts and all, frustrating and slowing to the drama's trajectory. As much as I wanted skinship, cuteness, and cute-skinship, I thought the element that lifted this drama from fantasy for a young audience into fantasy for adults was Tae-Yang's acknowledgement of the true obstacles in the relationship and her work at equalizing the imbalance.

Honestly how can you be in a relationship with a man that confidently say about you, in your presence, "she is a woman without self-esteem, she is clinging to me for a reason, nothing you can do will make her release me" to someone who already holds you in contempt.

When someone has all the power in the relationship and believe the junior partner will never leave not matter what they do, that relationship becomes fertile ground for abuse.

So I'm very glad Tae-Yang took the time to equalize the power dynamics.

I agree with both of you so much.
There are so many Kdramas that leave a bad taste in my mouth because the female character seems so immature or lacking in so many aspects but meeting her "prince" seems to magically make everything okay. That is not a healthy message and real life doesn't work that way.
I loved that the characters had sensible conversations and solved problems quickly rather than bickering/fighting over stupid plot points. There were no frustrating misunderstandings because people said what needed to be said. Or they were intelligent enough to read between the lines. I wish other dramas were more like this.

Altari - I'm with everyone in this thread on being glad that Joong-won didn't magically make everything okay for Gong-shil, and that they didn't start off with the familiar pattern of 'bicker your way to attraction' that most kdramas follow (though I like that too) - they had a lovely bantery rapport when they started, though that was mostly thanks to Gong-shil being so non-snappy at first.

It's still funny to me that the bickering began AFTER they fell in love and began dating, though. All the love for them <3

Required fields are marked *

I agree with you guys - I'm glad that Joong-won's abilities didn't lead to him becoming a crutch for Gong-shil, but that even before he got stabbed, having him around had given her the courage to not freak out all the time at the sight of ghosts. And that ultimately, the solution didn't lie in ridding herself of her powers, but just learning to deal with them on her own.

I'm also with you on why she needed to leave at first - sure, he'd grown past the reluctantly in love stage in which he said all those things to Auntie while hoping to provoke a response from Gong-shil (and while he held the financial power at first, it's pretty clear the emotional power in that relationship was all hers - not that that invalidated her reasons for leaving). I mean, JW, GS and we all know that he loves her and she loves him back, but she really felt like she didn't deserve to, and I'm glad that she took the time out to address the imbalances and meet Joong-won as an equal).

As much as I liked MS, which I would put on par w/ "He Who Can't Marry", INR2012 and TGL/BL - still think CP is a bit better overall due it having a better underlying story (nothing as ridiculous as good/evil twin or story lines which weren't handled well - such as the contract w/ the ghost matchmaker which ended up disappointingly being not something much at all and something that was solved by $$) and had better, fuller developed supporting characters (supporting characters tend to be a weak spot for the Hong sisters, as well as writing dull 2nd male leads).

I am not sure what CP is, but I will say this is one of the few k-dramas where I did not 'ship the second lead male, not because the second lead male was a dud but the male lead was so obviously the best for the female lead.

I 'shipped the second male lead on TGL/BL for a long time.

(I never 'ship second leads in Hyun Bin or Lee Dong-Wook dramas.)

Required fields are marked *

Ah, Coffee Prince. Love it. Almost everyone on the site use acronyms instead series names, and I can never keep up. Coffee Prince is on my list of favorites light k-drama rom-coms [along with I Hear Your Voice, My Lovely Kim Sam Soon, Scent of a Woman, Best Love, Secret Garden, and Protect the Boss (PTB loss steam in the end)].

I saw Coffee Prince after its initial run but still it has been a while. I remember thinking that the female lead waited too long to confess and I felt her reticence about confessing outlived the obstacle to confessing. I do remember the discover scene being so heartrending.

But I felt the separation in CP seemed less organic, or perhaps more accurately, it wasn't the separation that seem not as well worked in so much as the reunion was disappointingly anti-climatic and kind of flat.

I am of two minds about the which twin is dead plot point--I think it is actually a brilliant move in a series focused on the mystery than it played here. But in many ways all the ghost stories were, on their own less interesting as stand alone story and only worked a markers that parallel the over arching story as in pointing out things each character needed to know. Like the Stiletto Ghost's story hinting that Hana's death in the car accident just saved HeeJoo from having to murder her later.

The Madame Go contract contradiction could have been executed better with no more time taken. I think she was built up as a big scary when she was only an ordinary woman trying to get ahead in business. It might have been funny if Joong-Won and shown up at her residence ready to do battle and found her without her make-up, a harmless grandma feeding her cat and trying her best to 'see' instead of sense ghost and frustrated in her failure.

although i enjoyed the majority of it, the episodes for this week seemed to be draggy and not zippy fun like the beginning episodes. i know i shouldn't complain, since there weren't any randomass wrenches thrown into the mix or the lack of a happy ending for the OTP...after all the shitty endings of way too many dramas this year, this was a decent change of pace--a decent ending. a bit anticlimactic for my taste, but it was decent.
the extension of an extra episode gave the hong sisters ample opportunity to further develop certain storylines (i agree that chun-hee's character was pretty much useless, the shaman and her "contract" and JJW's ability to recover his memories anyway, to name a few)...and although they did a sweeping tying of the loose ends on the secondary characters, it fell a little short. i didn't particularly care for the back-and-forth of TGS "am i really leaving or staying," because it got a bit old. they really should have focused on TGS's journey to discover why she got her abilities, because honestly! a voice-over flashback-ish recollection of her discovery!? it would have been nice to have followed her journey IMO, because of the dramatic effect and the a-ha moment...it felt a bit rushed and clunky. i get it that she realized she couldn't live without him...but the significance of her journey and subsequent discovery of why was ultimately downplayed IMO.
i'm also glad that they finally "resolved" trash can ahjussi and coffee boy's stories, and it was definitely amusing that JJW became friends with trash can ahjussi in TGS's absence ;P
but i definitely gotta give props to SJS & GHJ. bravo!! this drama definitely swept upwards due to their chemistry. like others, i was looking forward to more skinship (ha ha, dirty thoughts lol) but i guess those kisses are sufficient, despite all the wordplay and skinship ;P
SJS was sizzling hottt as always, but he should definitely stick to rom-coms, they're now his forte!!! he was one of the reasons why i was glued to watching this ;P
TYR, in the beginning, was a bit annoying but harmless...and by this episode, i warmed up to her as a decent secondary lead.
and i absolutely agree, the heejoo/hanna storyline was a who-gives-a-fkk after all the progression throughout...but it was good to finally see a baddie go down for their crimes like in 2W (did you hear me, ISYG and YTBLSS??!?!) it irritates me to no end when i watch dramas where the baddies get away with/get a slap on the wrist for their seemingly long list of crimes and injustices...maybe it's because i'm in the criminal justice field or because of my principles, but when they get away with all the shit that they've done, it doesn't reinforce that one must pay for their "sins." at least in this case, HB got her ass hauled off to jail. (on a side note, why does it seem like a lot of kdramas kinda write off/tone down that aspect of punishing the baddies? are the writers trying to imply that it's all ok in the end, or maybe they're overlooking that aspect in their efforts to write a sweeping ending that kinda ties up the ends of the storylines?)
and last but foremost, the OST for this drama rocks!!! i especially liked the instrumentals (who would have guessed?) but they really fit well with the emotions and scenes...i usually don't really pick up any interest in the instrumentals, but this drama definitely perked up my interest because it fit so well.
thank you, master's sun, for being my crack for the past 2 months ;P it's been a good ride...

So there are Schedulers and there are Ghost Counselors. I like that.

I am sitting up in bed at midnight, clapping for the satisfying ending and loving the Hong Sisters for not letting me down. The couples wrap up the final episode worked and took into consideration their personalities and all their quirks. Secretary Kim was the even go-to person for everyone, what a great character.

"So we don't fight, let's continue what we were doing" - sweeter words couldn't have been spoken to wrap it up!

All good things must come to an end, but what a journey this had been! AMAZING chemistry between GHJ and SJS! GHJ needs no introduction for her wonderfully understated performances, but Mr. BEAUTIFUL hands is a total gem in his 1st rom-com role! Love love love!

Thank you Girlfriday & Javabeans for the recaps, great job as always!

i wanted so badly to see them show EXTRA skin-ship, to put action to their word play that i felt like a pervert lol probably the first drama where i ship the OTP harddd.

but like someone else said, the two actor made this show, they really make the chemistry felt so real. Also SJS has shown that he has a charm for playing romcom characters i hope he will consider more.

I will miss the sun rising and the earth soaking in all that goodness <3 here's to a great drama that will defiantly not be forgotten

Although, the skinship in Master's Sun weren't all that sizzling - you know, just face touching, chest touching, hand-holding, chest hiding, shoulder laying - but it was well compensated with the built up of the story as well as the designated characters of the roles.

Heck, even Best Love has skinship - When DokkoJin's heartrate monitor was faulty, he wonders why it didn't beep out of his 'healthy zone' whenever Ae Jung is around so he went around hugging/kissing her lol

SO YES!!!! I SO BADLY WANTED TO SEE EXTRA SKINSHIP TOO!!! BUt it didn't happen!!! So they MUST have an additional spin-off or something to give back the fanservice we deserve!!!

Yi Ryung 4 evah. She is really the funniest thing that keeps me coming back each episode. I love her, and all her self absorbed, myopic needs. Thanks to the Hong sisters for making such a kooky character and to the actress who really holds nothing back.

This recap made me smile from start to finish, my cheeks hurt so much. Kind of like in Best Love. Gong Hyo-jin has become one of my fave actresses now along with Yoon Eun-hye. Thanks for the Memories Master's Sun, but here comes Heirs.
In an aside, does anyone else think Gong Hyo-jin kinda sorta looks like Renee Zellwegger? Or is it just me?

Oh My!
That was indeed a drama.Just taought me that extensions really do bad for a drama that was going in a really good pace until then.I really wish they hadnt done that. Its not as thought we got extra couple moments with that extension.
It was a kind of disappointing when they resoulved the whole Why-I-see-ghosts problem.Well i think it was my fault because i was waiting for a big dramatic story connecting the leads to be told.
When i put it aside and think about the Hong Sisters logical explanation.....well you can live with that....

I have totally become a So Ji Sub and Go Hyo Jin fan after this.To the extent that I went on to watch thier other dramas and movies when i was waiting for the next episode to be aired.......
Apart from my complains about the finale that was indeed a weaksauce...I really did love the show...
and the funny thing is that I was actually following Two Weeks for the Wed-Thurs dramas...and happened to read the DB's recaps for the Masters Sun along with it.I lost my track of what was happening to Two Weeks and was obsessed with everything about Master's
Show you have got me......so have you So Ji Sub!!!

It should be pretty clear you're not the only one who wants more action between those two, the question would be who doesn't? ;)

I love you. Drama.
Yeah, I always become sentimental when it comes to these endings. It's just so nice to see them happy and content and kissing...awwww
I did felt that the episode was not very thrilling or fast, but I actually enjoyed every push-and-pull from our OTP. The kisses and cuddles could have lasted longer, though, but that's what I feel with almost every romantic drama.
The invitation thing was nice. I mean, It seemed just additional detail at the beginning of their special date on the rooftop, with them dressed up and flowers and such, but how our heroine introduced herself... She talked about ghosts and her weirdness but I almost felt that she was talking about normal things that all women feel. I mean, we all sometimes feel bad or sad (not because of ghosts, but just because) and other people might not understand us (again, not because they do not see ghosts, but because they cannot see all of us, one side will always be "ghosty" for them), we all do strange things sometimes and do not look focused. Thus her "confesion" about ghost also had the sense as if a person tells other person normal things (that she is weird sometimes, that she can be sad sometimes, that she is dofficult to live sometimes)... Which aww, really. So, I liked the drama. And I liked the recaps there, thank you. And I liked the commentaries there (I would have never known that there can be so many layers of meaning with colors, names, etc. ). I greatly enjoyed it. Love you all :).

I regard this drama as the best from Hong Sisters. I put it on the top among other dramas that they have written. The success of this drama is also (mostly) delivered by the stunning performance of SJS and GHJ. DAEBAK! Even I think I also ship them to be the real couple outside the dramaland. Ha! GHJ strengthens her title as ROM-COM QUEEN meanwhile SJS would have a new title then, which is ROM-COM KING. Oh well, ROM-COM QUEEN and ROM-COM KING. Love this couple so much.

Thank you dramabeans and girlfriday! You really helped me understand and appreciate MS so much more! Without your help I would have missed at least half of the puns in this show.
And show, you were amazing! Not perfect, but soooo satisfying. I watched you twice each episode, first on Viki, then DramaFever; (Seeing it with different subbing helps me understand more too.) And I didn't really mind the slower pace in the last two episodes. It set it up for some real laugh-out-loud moments. Many times I've felt that Kdramas try to cram too much into the last few episodes, or they lose the pacing that helps make them so addictively fun to watch; and far too many just plain stink toward the end. But the Hong sisters held it together this time; I feel like someone handed me a beautiful present tied up with a big bow!

wow really loved this drama (: gongshil had me completely spellbound with her "alternative" world, and the drunken possessed scene just displayed her charms. so jisub rocked the romcom element here <3

will miss this show. revealing the reason why gongshil shone like the sun for the dead - that had me sold. such a poignant testament to gongshil's warmth and kindness... if her character didn't shine like the sun (metaphorically) already.

p.s. everyone has real high hopes shipping this SoGong in real life but why do i feel like gong doesn't seem to return the same amt of affection (that So might have, if any at all?)

...yeah, much as I hate to admit it, things do look a bit friendly/one-sided between my irl otp.

You know, I think if you do real life ship them, I don't think it is one sided so much as I think it is harder to figure out her feelings because GHJ is so naturally bubbly and friendly/flirty with her costars, whereas SJS is known to be quite shy and quiet on set, but in the BTS for TMS he just effervesces, which I think shows that he has more interest.

But if you look at this...

http://typicrobots.tumblr.com/post/62848796239

...it doesn't seem so wholly one sided, no?

And there are many other instances (in two of the BTS where they have to hug, her arms naturally go around his waist in one example and around his back in another, which is not in the script) which I will probably scare you all with if you realize how much investment I have made into this possible real life ship.

This drama had me giddy all the way, but but but, I wanted the whole romantic ending enchilada!! Would it have hurt to maybe have a little bit of a wedding and then maybe some kids running around? I guess they already did that with Best Love.

But for a drama whose premise was hinged largely on skinship, there wasn't enough of it at the end. I want more GS-JW!

Now if only they started dating for realsies, I can live in lalaland of fantasy~ SoGong ship~~!

I'll probably watch Heirs, but the OTP there doesn't give me the sense of anticipation that SJS/GHJ did, pre-Master's Sun, so it's not like a burning need or anything.

But I will so miss my crack <3
