My week was okay. Work is piling up and its only mid January. However, I managed to squeeze in some holiday planning in midst of the growing work piles 😆. As the saying: work-life balance, I try to make it balanced as much as I can. Work and life in general sometimes can be overwhelming. I'm going on holiday sometime at the end of this month to hopefully unwind and comeback refreshed 🏖⛄.

On to dramaland...unfortunately no dramas excite me much. I kinda stopped watching Stove League for now. Tried to watch Heirs but ended up sleeping immediately after I press play. And I haven't tried any other new drama this past week.

I watched Master in the House. It was SSR's first day as a member, and as usual I was excited for his show. I think he blends well with the others and is willing to do anything. I wish the 5 members and crew all the best in their future adventures.

I wish to bring to the attention of @db-staff the dangerous situation on the beanie fanwall, where spambots are posting aggressively (and they are not selling Dyson vacuum cleaners). I am worried that I might accidentally click on the links as I scroll down trying to find beanie content. I really don’t want viruses or enlarged body parts. Please consider making the fanwall a more secure place... Maybe beanie access only? It’s my safe spot on the internet and it’s being invaded by zombie bots.

Since I’m on the subject, I will add that @mary’s retirement from minion duties has been a big blow for me. Her absence is keenly felt, not only because of her relentless fight to keep the fanwall spam-free, but because she regularly communicated with beanies and always addressed our concerns. DB isn’t the same without her. 😭😭

Ohhh... I didn’t know that Mary has retired from this site. I feel sad really. I might not come to Dramabeans much during the last year, but I remembered how fun it was with Mary and @laica regularly conversing with us. 😥 I’ll surely miss her. I hope she becomes a regular so we can still talk about dramas without her having to solve any problem for us. 😅

But the bots are registered, they couldn't post on the fanwall if they weren't. So beanie access only probably won't solve anything? A beanie once suggested adding captcha or any form of I am not a robot to the register page or while posting. It will make posting difficult but it seems worth it?

I'm watching Woohoo Waikiki 2 on Netflix and I'm realizing from the recaps that there are scenes missing and some background music isn't there. This has happened with a few other dramas too. Ughh spoils the experience of watching a drama a little. But for lack of better options. 🤷‍♀️

Hi Everyone and Happy Weekend!
I'm still in the throes of drama-slumphood and nothing is holding my attention, except maybe Joy of Life. Yes, I know ... it's Season 1 ending is insane. What a note to end on ... without any guarantee we'll get a Season 2. But it was the only show that kept me intrigued, amused and heartily entertained. I've still got the last 3 subbed episodes to watch (I did watch the spoiler trailers but those don't bother me or spoil my watch) after which I'll be drifting rudderless in drama-watching land. 😢 😬

Maybe I should actually be excited that there's some thing else to do ... called work. 🙄 😑 😆

As I finished watching Love with flaws I would like to write my ode to Joo Won Seok, so nicely brought to life by Cha In Ha.

It was refreshing to see another openly gay character after HyoBong in Be Melodramatic. Specially when the very few references I had before were not that positive (thinking about Cheese in the trap).

Little details I loved about WonSeok:

- He waiting stoic for the song to end while SeoYeon was abandoned by his boyfriend and drinking.
- He giving her sister his arm when she falls down drunken.
- He telling his older brother their little sister drinks much more than him.
- He not being scared by Kang Woo and intimidating him back.
- He calling KangWoo to tell him about mum and dad accident, just because he doesn’t want to see his sister in pain.
- He leaning on the wall asking carelessly about HoDol to SeoJoon and being annoyed because he would not show to lessons that day.
- He smiling ti HoDol in class 🥰
- He defending HoDol from bullies.
- He telling dad he’s sorry and the relief in his face when dad says there’s nothing to be sorry.
- He being told by WonJae and SeoYeon to talk to SeoJoon because he only listens to him.
- He being so nervous when taking to HoDol dad on the phone.
- He confessing to HoDol ❤️

Happy Friday, fellow Beanies!

Well, I’m still whirling hopelessly in the black vortex of obsession named my Hyun Bin-ge marathon as I desperately attempt to catch up on all his notable works up-to-date.

This is all the fault of Crash Landing on You!

While it seems his other dramas Hyde, Jekyll, Me and Memories of the Alhambra vary in terms of watchability, this is where DB’s recaps are a god-sent. I just read the re-caps and then watch only the scenes I like from each episode. It staves off the Binnie cravings while I wait for Saturday and Sunday to arrive.

Other than that, of his movies, I think I like Confidential Assignment better than Rampant, Late Autumn, and the Negotiation. But really, I’ll suffer through anything right now just to get my Hyun Bin hit.

I’m so pathetic, but I don’t care! 😘

Happy weekend Beanies!

You miss one OT, and yet it feels like a century passed on Dramabeans. I missed a blackout, I am behind on @azzo1 Azzo’s Sticky-note Adventures episodes, I am behind on Dramabeans recaps, I am behind on No Second Chances episodes…*flails around* Quick recap: I was in Paris last week for the Day6 concert and warned you all I would spam about the concert this week. More about that below.

I was also anticipating a phone call from the manager with good news, but I unfortunately did not get hired. I must admit that I feel a bit silly for getting my hopes up after the ghosting fiasco from last time, but at the same time I am disappointed that they gave me false hope. They were so sure that the possible obstacles and my flaws were either no big deal or could be dealt with through training, which is a refreshing point of view for an employer (they usually expect you to be perfect before they agree to hire you). However, all of a sudden it became a big deal in the long run, and they rejected me, which feels like a case of hypocrisy to me.

But let’s move on to the really important things…@mango deeeeaaareeeest, how was the Day6 concert in Paris? 😛 Did you notice any weird MyDays in the VIP Section??? 😛 Lots of epiphanies that night for me: YoungK is an excellent MC. WonPil needs more love. When Dowoon sings you should be quiet. I love Jae and SungJin too much. I was fine during the concert, but during the high touch Jae gave me a knowing smile (and I have no clue why, argh 😳) and SungJin suavely thanked me for coming to the concert and now I am Double Toast. 🥰🥰 I would add MyMusicTaste to the epiphany list, but as it is my third K-pop concert (in Europe), I already knew that it would be a mess. At least my friend and I had a blast observing the chaos with imaginary salted popcorn.😆

@saturtledaisy, I hope you had a blast at the concert in Amsterdam and will have a blast in Brussels as well! 😊

Despite being trapped in our arrondissement because of the public transportation strike, we managed to get around on foot most of the time and have fun. Perhaps it was a bit unwise to schedule walking up to Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge the day after the concert, but the ache in my throat and calves made me feel alive 😅 I may not have seen much of Paris, but the foul taste from my high school excursion has officially been wiped out. 😊

After this amazing start to 2020 it is hard to get back to real life. I lost count of how many times I procrastinated with Day6 trivia this week. Fortunately I am mostly finished with my chores and meeting up with my group of friends for a birthday party this weekend, which should easily bring me back to the bright side of real life. There are also the Dramabeans recaps and K-drama episodes….😉

Ahhhhh! You saw them! I loved them in Dallas! When Dowoon sang his one line, you could feel the anticipation in the air! Then we all lost our minds after! It was crazy! He’s such an adorable baby. I’ll stop screaming now. It would be hard to top that in 2020. For me, it was a fun way to get to spend time with my husband for a weekend and not have any kids to worry about!

Thank you for screaming with me! I appreciate your warnings about Jae, but I was no match for his charms. I have decided to adopt Dowoon, a playmate for your son Chan. 😊 They even let him sing the first verse of 'Get Lucky' by Daft Punk, it was perfect for his deep voice! 😍 Unfortunately some immature kids at the front were loud during his line, even when YoungK was motioning for everyone to be quiet for Dowoon 😤 But most people (me included) lost their minds indeed! I do agree that it is better to do this without kids, my friend and I felt waaaay too old as late twenties between all those teenagers! Day6 have indeed set the bar very high for 2020!

I travelled abroad. ;) I guess I should appreciate these trips more. Europe is so small that it only takes a few metaphorical steps to end up in another country already. Some artists come to my country, but I really feel unsafe in our capital city and I am not too fond of it, so even when K-pop artists do come here, I still pick London/Paris/... and turn it into a weekend city trip. It allows me to travel a few times a year while unemployed ;)

Ahh you tagged me and I missed it!!! I am so glad you had a great time during this tour because I HAD A REALLY GREAT TIME. I am glad they managed to cleanse your less bright memories of Paris. These boys make everything shine~

In Amsterdam the sound system didnt capture Dowoon very well sadly but I heard him clearly in Brussels. I'm sorry people weren't quiet during his lines... People screamed too. But I guess everyone was just too excited. The energy in a Day6 concert is insane. Even if you were feeling down, they'll lift you right up. When Day6 says jump, you ask how high!

Gah I can rave about this forever.....!!!

Hi Beanie friends! Just stopping for a quick update. We are bracing for some weather today. The upper midwest will see lots of snow/ice, so be safe Beanies!

We are watching Dr. Romantic (I think that's what it's called), but RDTK 2 and what's her name it getting hella annoying now. So if she is really that traumatized in surgery that she has to take anxiolytics (at high doses) to function, there is no way she would be a cardiovascular fellow. NO FREAKIN' WAY. This doesn't seem like a small or recent development either. She's always been that way. How did she make it through general surgery? Or does Korea do things differently where to can just to CV surgery out of medical school? Usually, you need at least a year of general surgery and she would have failed out miserably. Actually, I know a girl who did just this. Her father is an ER physician, and she went to medical school and then got into a prestigious surgery program and couldn't cut it in the OR. She had some mental health issues as well, and the stress was too much for her. But she figured it out her FIRST YEAR, and is a general practitioner now. A good one too. Anyway, the writing this season is not as good as the first and both my husband and I are struggling to keep watching. But my boy, Ahn Hyo-soep, is killing it as the angsty male surgeon and Shin Dong Wook's orthopedic surgeon character is still a little mysterious, maybe just a bit eccentric, but I love him already.

And Crash Landing On You. My husband has been catching up this week. I started watching it without him early on (eps 3-6) because he threw a temper tantrum about I don't remember what and said he'd stop watching it with me. But now, he's regretting it, and is watching the episodes he missed, while I sit and read DB's fanwalls and Discord. It's a lovely time to be alive.

And, our whole family has gotten into Stuck on You, the drama taking the fanwall by storm. I'm not even going to tag azzo because how adorably flustered she is by all this attention. It's our dinner time discussion.

Speaking of discussions, I got my daughter caught up with episode 7 of Stuck on You this week:

Me: So that's all I have about Sticky-note man and azzo!

Son: Walking back to the kitchen after getting something out of his new braces, "What are you watching now, mom? Who's sticky note man? Why is he even called that?” Who's Azzo?"

Husband: Rolls his eyes and says to my daughter, "Oh no, she's going to start from the beginning, because he hasn't heard any of this!"

Me: I'll give him one sentence summaries.
Episode 1: Sticky note man meets azzo and gives her number on a sticky note which she gives away to her finance department.
Episode 2: Sticky note man finds an excuse to meet azzo at work again, to plan a presentation at his job.
Episode 3: Sticky note man keeps smiling and looking at azzo’s wrists while she is at the presentation at his job
Episode...

Episode 4: Sticky note man calls on azzo and tries to give her flowers, but she tells him she doesn’t like them, but he already has them in his car, which she sees, but he doesn’t mention them again.
Episode 5: Azzo calls sticky note man to apologize about being rude and he says he gave the flowers to his mom.
(Where my daughter interjects at this point and says, “So now, brother, we’ll know if you’re dating someone if you give mom flowers!”)
Episode 6: Sticky note man and azzo go to a coffee shop and talk and he tells her her wrists are pretty (??), brushes something off her shoulder and she stands frozen, and then adorably gives her one Ferrero Roche chocolate too (I’m assuming in case she hates chocolate).
Episode 7: Azzo is stuck at her house because of flash floods in her neighborhood and Sticky note man talks to her for over 3.5 hours until someone comes home and he knows she’s safe!
Hubby: That was much more concise! Why didn’t I get that version? But wait, Episode 8 is next. Does that mean we’ll get a kiss???
Me: Maybe!
Hubby: But tell her not to get to Episode 9 or 10, because that’s where she’ll be crying all episode!
Me: Oh my dear lord.
Daughter: She’s a real person, right? Don’t be mean daddy!
Moral of the Story: We have the architecture of a kdrama down.
2nd Moral: All the best to azzo and her Sticky-note guy!
3rd Moral: I’ve not done one of these in a while. Thanks for letting me, Beanies!

This came on the right time Ally. I was thinking of binge watching Stuck on You again from 1 to 7. Jbtw SNG gave azzo the chocolate because the last time when he brought flowers, azzo told him that she likes chocolates. Plus the most important thing about ep 3 was SNG asking azzo if he could call him for not for work too. So umm, I think I know all episodes by heart now, this is creepy, sorry 😂

I finished binging the first season of Age of Youth this week and started immediately on the 2nd season. One change between seasons that I couldn't really let the show get away with was completely switching the actor for Eun-jae just by saying "our maknae has changed". Nobody has a face change that dramatic without major plastic surgery. I don't understand why they didn't just remove her character as well.

Besides that flaw, I thoroughly enjoyed the first season and what I've watched of the second. Although not perfect dramas (sometimes the sudden shift in tone can be too abrupt), AOY was an interesting exploration of our young women's struggles with relationships, aspirations, and self. Does anyone have any warnings to give me about AOY2?

I feel identified. My mother is dead now. But the time I lived with her, I never understood why our lives had to be so tiring and meaningless. Since forever when she is in my dreams, it is a nightmare, and recently I realised she never, never, never made me feel warm, loved or cared. It was not even what she did or didn't do but how it made me feel. That's what I remember, and of course it is sad, but in my country we have a saying: there is no evil that last 100 years nor anybody who can endure it.
It will end... I promise. And whenever you are free from those problems, although you will still have other problems, but you will be stronger, and life can be better.
Fighting!!!!

I'm sorry, amy. This can be such a stressful time of life, when you are young enough to need to live with your parents but don't agree with their viewpoints or constraints on you.

It can be very stressful on them, too.

Conflict will likely be reduced when you are old enough to move away. That's not to say you will magically get along or agree with each other, but there will be less of the constant, day-to-day friction.

Sometimes you just have to bide your time in a bad situation, until you see the opportunity to leave or otherwise change the situation. Wishing you strength!

While waiting for CLoY and other ongoing dramas to air their weekly episodes, I enjoyed binge-watching the movies and dramas of the handsome, sexy and funniest Korean leading man and action star, Kim Nam-Gil.

The Pirates 2014 is an entertaining, swashbuckling story set between Pirates of the Carribean and Free Willy. Awesome cinematography, effectively applied soundtrack, exciting swordfights, loveable characters and sharp, witty dialogues. Surprise of all surprises is the young, pretty and energetic Son Hye Jin capably doing swordfights and stunt works and notable participation of good character actots.

Rewatched The Fiery Priest, an interesting story about a priest with anger management issues, with good reason. Fell in love with how well Nam Gil moves in choreographed fight scenes.

Rewatched The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale, a horror comedy, so simple in its approach but funny to the bone. I never realized a zombie movie could be this entertaining. What a ensemble of actors!!!

Waiting could be this rewarding, after all.

CLOY is one of those solely character driven shows where the premise and plot is basically immaterial and unbelievable. However, cast has created likeable characters for an easy to watch entertainment series.
But the last two episodes did show the wear and tear on the actors. Most looked pale and tired. After a week hiatus, they are still working nonstop outside in the winter cold. A check of the last episode runtime is now 1 hour 25 minutes long. If this continues, the crew is trying to shoot 50 percent more show/week (from 2 hours to 3 hours of content).
I wonder if this shooting schedule is going to take a toll in the second half of the series.

The fan wall is less likely to eat it (which is why we see more bits there. Also, before Mary left, she said that the fan wall has an entirely different server than the recap/news section and that they were trying to figure out how to move the latter to have more memory/stability or something because they were running out of room. The fan wall is in no danger though. I don’t know if they ever fixed that. So, maybe that has something to do with it too.

Link seems OK in OT. Enjoy your show!

I have to ask, who is Bejabbers?

Everytime I see your name he hrows a little more in my imagination.
As of now you had a dearly loved hamster who was gentlemanly though portly. He had brown fur that had a tendency to tuft especially around his face as if he had a little mustache.
If this keeps on I'm afraid next he will have a monocle and a red waistcoat.

Your imagination is awesome. Unfortunately, my name is far more pedestrian.

'Bejabbers' is an old-timey exclamation like 'egads!'.

'Oh My Hamster' is the exclamation used to replace 'Oh My God' in the hugely underrated Brazilian show Nobody's Looking.

Both names, along with 'Dropingu', are names I have used both here or on discord. And I got in trouble for having too many names and changing too oftne and nobody knew who I was. So I jokingly updated my name here to include (almost) all of them.

But I am now considering purchasing a pet hamster and calling him Bejabbers.

It would be a wonderful hamster or even the right kind of cat's name.
Thanks for the explanation.

I'm finishing up "Nokdu Flower," and OMGosh the cruelty of the Japanese is once more shown as a unifying factor for the Koreans. I love historical Kdramas, and this is my up-tenth one about the Japanese occupation of Korea. And what a range of dramas I've watched: Basketball; Oasis; Mr. Sunshine; Assassination; Blue Swallow; Anarchist from Colony; and one of my favorites--Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet.

Do any of you have favorites? I'm always looking for more dramas to watch concerning this time period in Korea.

Have you seen the movie Age of Shadows?
I loved it.
It's a bit hard, though.

Age of Shadows was beautiful. It’s got Gong Yoo, so there’s that too. 😊

Yes, I saw it last year. Besides Mr. Aigo (that's what I call Gong Yoo), Song Kang Ho can't be beat in the acting department. I loved him in "Taxi Driver." I've watched all his movies I can find online. Since I'm a history nut I'm especially looking forward to seeing, "The King's Letters." I'd also like to watch, "A Little Pond."

+ Hymn of Death (only three episodes) and the little bit of alter-universe from Chicago Typewriter.

This time period (1910-1945) is just in the heart of the time for WW2. I like dramas from this time period too. Maybe I'll check out your list also. Nokdu Flower and Mr. Sunshine has been in my to-watch list for some time already. But I googled and it was the era leading to 1910 occupation.

I'm in love with War of Prosecutors. It's so witty and funny and then still and quiet when it needs to be. These veteran actors look like they are having so much fun acting. I laughed so hard at Seon Woon's son's comment that "no one wants to watch a show about prosecutors, just doctors" for some ratings heat.

Whyyyyy am I watching a currently-airing drama? And one that keeps getting interrupted, at that? It's been a long time since I got sucked into a drama as much as CLOY. I need to either find many other dramas to fill the times when it's not airing, or actually um, get a life. Very much looking forward to sitting home during a blizzard and watching ep 9.

You need to do what @pineapplegongzhu is doing and watch allllll of Hyun Bin’s prior work 😉

@rlg07: if you have Netflix, they have 3 of Hyun Bin’s dramas available - Hyde, Jekyll, Me; Memories of the Alhambra and CLOY.

MoA is much more watchable than HKM, and Hyun Bin is ridiculously handsome in it. How can he look so sexy while sleeping in a hospital bed, all injured?! That’s some powerful mojo right there, my friend.... as @bbstl can attest to. 😘

Beanies, congratulate me! I've (almost) made it to the halfway-stage of the daily drama that I'm watching. Yup, I've seen 58 episodes of Unasked Family.

I have to be honest, if I wasn't watching one episode a day, I probably would have dropped it. If I ever get really behind, I might not pick it back up. But there's something soothing about watching 30 mins whilst having lunch. Okay, so days it's been relegated to being watched while I'm preparing my lunch.

What I've learned:
I'm okay with 50 episodes of mild annoyance about a particular story line as long as there's a good pay off around ep 55
My now favourite character wasn't actually in the first 10 episodes and that's okay too (maybe she was shown forlornly dragging a suitcase around but she def. had no dialogue)
I'll watch something with a totally insipid (but pleasant) OTP if the side stories are great
Writing 58 cliffhangers much be tricky. OMG the wrong person is listening in *cue dramatic WWWMMIL music*

Right - getting ready for the second half.

I feel like such an adult today. I went into my kitchen to make a cup of hot chocolate and fill up my water pitcher (I love this thing, my old library had one. Its a pur water filter pitcher and it holds like so many gallons of water. Ive only ever had for personal use the regular pitchers that can hold like 3 cups of water and its like well what is the point of that?) and I cleaned my refrigerator. I threw out the old food, took out the shelves and cleaned those and now I just need to put the food back. I even made a pitcher of lemonade. Now Im sitting back with a book (still Bloody Seoul. Im not sure how much of my heart I can give this book, its pretty tense) and my hot chocolate--with lots of peppermint--and the game show network for background noise.
What a lovely saturday. I hope you all are having a lovely saturday!

Hello all:

Too much and not much going on so i'll just move on to dramas.

Fave dramas at the moment:

Stove League -- yay, yet another drama without some unneeded romance being forced into the plot. Namgoong Min is killing it. He's so good. And i'm learning about baseball. Usually it's jdramas that go all indepth with the business genres and teach us all about stuff we weren't particularly interested in seeing in a drama. But over the past three years, we've gotten so much business genre drama in korea. And for the most part, they're doing them super well.

Money Game. So good!

Been watching Jung Il Woo cook up a storm. My crush for him only deepens.

Cdramas:

Joy of Life -- i am so going to miss this. Do we have to wait three years for part 2?

Handmaidens United -- a silly throwback romance with ne'er a sword fight in sight. No major attempts to rise in status (the contrary kind of) and just normal life. And it's in Cantonese. Just so much fun.

Trying to watch Ever Night 2 but with four of the leads changed to different actors, i'm not feeling it. Something about it feels off, less mythic, less gravitas.

Have a great weekend, all.

Hi @scifiwritir,

Too much and not much going on

... seems about right. In the end, I don't say much because of this.

JoL is such a hoot. I saw the spoilers but that does not bother me. Love the fact that romance does not have to be a key theme and that there are probably several characters in it. Figuring out the allies will be the fun part. 😆

Ah, drama comrade, life is a serious thing isn't it?
I'm hoping they keep the same actors because now i'm a big Rouyon fan. Am watching Ever Night 2 at last. It took a few episodes for me to stop comparing it to the first season. But now i'm hooked.

Why are most of the drama kisses so lukewarm? Like all the tension, the build-up etc. and it ends with a kiss that is not exactly a kiss, at least not a kiss full of passion. Sometimes it is done so right, the characters don't even have to kiss but if they kiss why not doing it more authentic? Is it because of the rating and cause it is on broadcast? Or is it the actors?

Happy weekend everyone!

Here is some rambling from me, I just need to let it out somewhere.

I met with the doctor today and she was very kind and calm. Not stressed at all as they usually are in my country. Got medicines prescribed to me that she wants me to try even though I'm scared of messing with my head with chemical substances. One is to help me sleep and the other one is to "help me feel less useless". The doctor thinks I'm having depression, but I don't feel depressed, a bit down yes but not depressed. It feels like I don't fit in anywhere and with these medicines they will try to fit me in a mold I know don't belong in. It honestly scares me.
