Destined With You releases first OTP posters

Squeeee! I’m getting good vibes already. Right on the heels of King the Land, it looks like we’ll have another fun JTBC romance headed our way (along with Behind Your Touch) — in the shape of Destined With You. With Kim Ro-woon (Tomorrow) and Jo Boa (Military Prosecutor Doberman) in the lead, it’s already a given that I’ll be on the cheer squad for this drama. *Please be good*

In the fantasy romance, Jo Boa plays civil servant Lee Hong-jo who comes in contact with an ancient book — sealed from the public eye. This book actually holds the secret to the curse that has been plaguing our attorney hero Jang Shin-yu (Kim Ro-woon) and his family for generations. Naturally, their lives (and affections) become tied due to broken curses and ~fate~, but there’s also our second lead characters to make things more complicated. Ha Joon (Missing: The Other Side 2) plays our heroine’s colleague and crush, while Yura (Forecasting Love and Weather) is our hero’s girlfriend — who also just so happens to bully Hong-jo regularly. (Do I sense the opportunity for Protective Ro-woon to emerge? Count me in!)

The drama has wasted no time dropping its first posters, and even though the Photoshop runs strong, I’m really liking the overall feel: there’s a fun contrast of the workplace/office structure with the ancient/fantastical component, as evidenced by the lovely traditional painting in the background.

Also, the fact that the production company thought it necessary to release not one but two nearly identical posters makes me think they similarly won’t hold back with the rest of the drama. And the all-in approach is exactly what a drama like this needs.

Penning the script for Destined With You is Noh Ji-seol, in her first drama since smash hit 100 Days My Prince. PD Nam Ki-hoon has also raised expectations for the drama, with the likes of Tunnel, Big Bet, and Kiss Sixth Sense (phewf, a romance) on his resume.

JTBC’s Destined With You premieres on August 23 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

So I guess the moral of the story will be "Make sure you can break the curse on the guy's family before you start OTPing with him"

But when I think of curses and really old books I mostly think of my allergies.

I tread carefully when I see 'fantasy romance'.. I like the leads but will keep my expectations low.
That's a lot of filters even on the poster.
Glad its not a weekend drama!! I haven't had a mid week drama in awhile.

It just turns them into beautiful mannequins. It is incredibly unnecessary and contributes to these unrealistic standards of beauty. I bet even Jo Bora and Rowoon - as gorgeous as both are- aren’t anywhere as ‘perfect’ looking as their poster counterparts.

It's consistent with the recent trend of posters that are filtered and airbrushed to the point that the actors look like waxworks - at least for rom-coms or fantasy dramas. And I've noticed that matching lipstick on the FL and ML has become standard.

The Jo Bo-ah/Rowoon pairing seems odd to me, but the prospect of a fun midweek watch alone is enough to make me keep an eye on this. It's been too long.

With you on all points. I hope it doesn’t devolve into an absurd/painful mess and remains a harmless fantasy rom-com!

As non rom com fan, can I have a tragic melodrama? Not tragic rom com, just one romance melodrama, no cheating husband, no serial killer, no crazy MIL/SFL/SML just one tearjecker, tragic, unfated, transcendent life time and all of those stuff. Crying person needs a crying friend. Lol

@pohonphee
LOL, OK, you can have one, but I suspect it won't be this one. Although we've been lied to by posters, promos, and plot synopses so often lately that any show could surprise all of us!

I think the shades are different. Hers has an orange undertone and his seems to be pink. Not that it matters. I still haven’t gotten used to male lipsticks. It’s not as glaring as when I started kdramas but depending on the light and filters sometimes they look a bit too much.

On my monitor, the shades are equal in tone, but differ in brightness: her lipstick is shiny, while his is matte.

Like every Korean posters... It just because the background of the poster being a drawing, it stands out more.

Koreans are fan of those filters!

My issue is they whitewashed them a lot. When they will accept darker skin ton?

Rowoon's skin tone does not differ much from his skintone in your profile picture.

There are naturally very pale people (like me). Why are we being erased nowadays?

Rowoon has a darker skin tone than other actors in general. But he often wears make up or they use filters to make him looking whiter.

Speaking of a whiter shade of pale, Mr. 6'2 does indeed rock the Mr. Roarke ensemble.

The short teasers showed so many different things : sageuks scenes, comedy, almost kiss, serious scenes, etc. I love the sound effects and the different way they say the same sentence. The PD posted them on his Insta account : misodoun.

I have said this before and I will say it again, I love the leads and I will be trying to give this drama a shot. I am totally in the mood for a fantasy romcom and this just might be it. *Prays vigorously to the drama gods*

Scriptwriter Noh's My Lovely Girl is so bad that even the success of 100 Days My Prince cannot fully overcome my doubts over her new story. Fingers crossed....

I'd wanna watch this. Well, Netflix predicted that I would like this one when it comes out (for more info, see my fan wall post of a Netflix poster). I'll give it a try, and see how much I like it.

Unlike others, my main concern here is Jo Boa, a good actress who I've never found to have romantic chemistry with any of her co-stars. (Someone pointed out that the exception is her pairing in "Military Doberman," and that may be true, but note that it was very slow burn and they didn't really get together until the end.) I am indifferent to Rowoon (he doesn't have a lot of range, and I find him almost too pretty--I know, unfair--but he's watchable) but I'm not sure he's the actor that will finally make me love a Jo Boa romance.

I'm liking the actors cast for this k-drama. Their work has been excellent in the past.

OTP's definition is a shipper's most favorite pairings. This hasn't even aired yet so how can it be your OTP?

Added note: I just found out a lot of Kdrama fans use the term OTP wrong. OTP is an individual term used to express favorite pairings in fiction, whether it's main, side or you really like the idea of two characters together that you have a strong attachment to. So it also doesn't matter if it's canon or not.

You love a couple regardless of it being main, sides and whether or not it's canon? THAT is what an OTP is!

If you don't like the main couple they're not your OTP, if you don't know the couple they're not your OTP, they're simply just a 'main couple'.
