This week I saw a news feature on KBS America that showed otters running around at night on the banks of the Han River. Otters are a rare and endangered species in Korea. Wildlife experts did not realize that otters have started to take up residence in the center of Seoul and some of its tributaries. However, the Korean Herald reported in 2023 that local authorities announced that 15 Eurasian otters were confirmed to be inhabiting there. The analysis, conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, is based on footage of surveillance cameras installed along the Han River. Otters, which are most active at night, were captured roaming around near Tancheon Stream, Jungnang Stream, and Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park.

It never fails to amaze me that wild life experts are shocked when the public finds “extinct” animals in an area they are not supposed to be. In the early 1900s, mountain lions were considered extirpated from states east of the Mississippi River. However, in the early 2010s, people continued to report large cats in North Carolina. A few years later, several people captured photographs of mountain lions taking down deer in Northern Illinois. Since then, sightings of rare animals have been found all over American suburbs and cities (including a large population of coyotes living inside the city limits of Chicago.)

my neighborhood in the buzzing center of Tallinn has owls and eagles, not to mention hedgehogs. now since people started making tiny ponds there can also be some frogs and snakes (nonpoisonous). and of course foxes and hares but whats most unusual is there are wild boars on a peninsula right next

Coyotes are very very prevalent in western states in cities and suburbs, especially if it's a dry year and they're moving closer to busy civilization for food. Also, I've seen more moose (10 in 3 different states in the west) . And although I haven't spotted a mountain lion, there are plenty of sightings in town every year. I drove around campus last fall where a large mountain lion was spotted, but didn't see it. Seeing otters at the Han River seems particularly charming, and playful!

We're in a mid-sized city in the central US and have bobcats, coyotes, wild turkeys, foxes and occasional bears and mountain lions.

We now get fewer birds than what we used to get to visit us but surprisingly we get some peacocks from time to time who of course choose to announce their arrival in their distinctive "voices" but some of them speak foreign languages too - as one talks in "meaow" and another "caws".

I don't know the specifics or the timeline of their relationship but the Han So Hee/Ryu Jun Yeol/Hyeri situation reminds me of Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt/Jennifer Aniston dynamics. It seems like a "bad girl" vs "good girl" thing which makes it easier to judge and villify those involved or have "teams". A difference is I don't remember if Brad got much backlash but RJY is getting his share of criticism.

One thing I saw in a clickbait title was how HSH broke up with someone to be with RJY and it just made me think what exactly do people want here? If she broke up with someone because she wanted to be with someone else, then isn't that a "good" thing because she didn't cheat or string the guy along? (No matter how long that relationship was).

I read this in Korea Herald.

"Hwanseung yeonae is loosely defined among South Koreans as moving on from one romantic partner to another with no or minimal time between the relationships, likening the act to transferring between buses or subway trains on one's daily commute. The relatively short period between Ryu's relationship with Han and the termination of his prior relationship with singer and actor Hyeri, reported in November, resulted in the new couple being suspected of the detested form of dating."

Koreans take these things too seriously and care more for 'image'. No one knows what really happened. For all you know the couple was estranged awhile back and the official break up came to light recently.
It is sad that they are losing endorsements and are being trashed for dating and not cheating!!

Sigh, it's so messed up how people's private lives affect their career when they don't even do anything wrong or illegal.

More power to the folks who can withstand the backlash and just continue on with their relationships

From what I read in the news, Hyeri simply unfollowed Ryu Jun Yeol with a phrase "how interesting" after the new of Han So Hee Ryu Jun Yeol broke out, then people speculated that there might be overlap in time, Han So Hee then came out with a post saying that she ascertained that Hyeri Ryu Jun Yeol broke up early in 2023 and the post was accompanied with a dog with a knife. Then Hyeri was forced to apology and clarified that the decision to break up was in November 2023 and Ryu Jun Yeol said at time they would talk about it later (implying that said promised talk never took place). From these posts, netizens are more angry with Ryu Jun Yeol as it seems that maybe he was blurring the truth to the 2 ladies, and now he just keeps silent and let the ladies do the talking and take the blame.

Remember how much slack (and ridicule) Taylor Swift got by doing this "hwanseung yeonae"?

It's just a gossipy human nature. But I agree, in Korea, this all is taken to highest forms of extreme.

we did the religion lecture it went well, but it was annoying I had to do such an extensive research myself bc nobody in Estonia is familiar with it.

do I have any library jokes? we had a squirrel come in through the window after hours. cleaning lady chased it up and down until she couldnt handle & we called the fire department. even those guys went through a lot of trouble trying to catch it bc it was climbing... our newly sews curtains. our ceiling is 6 m high...

it is spring, but someone came with a pair of skis. there is no snow...?

we were asked if we have a skull to borrow by girls who were filming an ad "for their student firm". we wondered what they produced. turns out: dry shampoo. maybe not the best idea to use a bare skull?

I got you three funny library stories.
first, I was wearing a white blouse and a sweater but it was very warm at work so I took off the sweater but my boob popped out of my bra so I used a large book to hide and sneaked into the back chamber to fix it except a patron was working between the shelves and thought I was boob fing someone. so I said I had removable bionic boobs that can read whole books through the cover but they get tired

second, two very stylish girls walk into reading room, with their laptops, sit down, open the laptops and the starting sound is a very long loud fart.

three, someone called: "I am coming straight from Dubai on a plane, where can I park near the library?"
it did turn out she meant park the rental car not the plane.

After watching a couple of older dramas that had 20 (or more) episodes, I wonder if any drama needs that many episodes. It's weird for me to think that considering I've watched seasons of American shows when seasons were like 20+ episodes long.

It's just while watching these dramas, I realized I was finding it tedious or repetitive the closer I got to episode 16 and then it was "and there's *still* more to go?!"

I'm liking the shorter episode count dramas. Better yet when the writers can completely convey a good story in that time frame.

I don't mind the longer dramas but this is just something that came to mind.

I am a huge believer in 12 episodes. All dramas I have seen with 12 are able to say what they want to say without extra scenes to take up time. Great examples are
Business Proposal
Castaway Diva
Hospital Playlist- but I could have watched 100 of these!!❤️
Like Flowers in Sand
Perfect Marriage Revenge
See you in my 19th Life
The Forbidden Marriage

Most of these shows I Loved- and didn't feel cheated that they were 4-6 episodes shorter

In my case i dont have problems with the lenght of the dramas, maybe because i love one piece and it has +1000 episodes hehe😅, (but i dont mind cause i enjoy and love it), on the other hand, i get people dont like long dramas if they drag, for example i remember watching the Baker king and it was like 50 episode,in the middle it was getting boring but still i finished it and i think i liked it overall, but i dont remember that much cause i watched it like 10 years ago. In the end, i think if the story is ambitious and is a story that can not be told in only 12 episodes then 20+ is not bad. It depends as always

Happy Friday, Beanies! Hope it goes better for you than me who's having an obligatory spring cold thanks to insane weather (snow two days ago, sun today, endless rain in between... yikes!). Today's playlist was supposed to have a different theme again, but since LYN, despite for once NOT filming anything atm, is still too busy – he's finishing another album! can't wait! - to stream and broaden my collection of live performances, I had to think of something else other than OSTs for now))) Apparently said album been in works for ages because he wanted its content to be different from his drama songs, which led me to ponder about how versatile his music actually is and how many people yet to be aware of the fact. Well, I can fix that)))

Let's start with the roots – aka old (from his debut era!) rock. Ngl, rocker LYN always tops everything in my ears by default – man was born for power ballads! - but this particular track isn't only cool for his metal vocals, but also mix of genres in instrumental. The way it starts so chill and then! There's no MV tho, idk why official upload claims otherwise:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73awthvwYBE

Ready for a mood whiplash? Next is probably his most trend-ish vanilla pop song I've ever heard – the style of your average kpop group doing a Chinese single to safely broaden their market. So saccharine, I can't even! Yet it's still super catchy and genuinely good – you can tell he's having lots of fun with it. He also covered Bieber in case you were wondering... no, I will never post THAT here, even my horizons are not this broad! Headphones advice, it's really better this way!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5UuYcB6sSs

Too much sugar? Likely yes - I needed some lemon tea afterwards lol, but if tea isn't enough, I have something even more sobering – rap. Yeah, you heard that right. It's not like he's a big pro at it... but not too shabby either, all things considered. Feat some traditional opera thrown in the mix because genre salads ftw))) Also rare case of an old performance that's not hurting my eyes style-wise – let's just say I've always appreciated his tight jeans game...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3ApJaoeEi4

More rap because I can lol. No, seriously – what the hell are his lungs made of? That speed at the end can't be human...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCnz7wBQL2g

Back to sweetness – this probably classifies as a lounge bar song? On the sexier side of that spectrum boy really needs chill with moaning delivery, I'm trying my hardest to stay PG here!. The lyrics lmao – that's something a college kid from philosophy major would've come up trying to impress their date after too many cocktails (trust me, I've been there!). There are subs so yall can laugh with me (put on headphones again, seriously!):

Jazz as well! Gotta say, China has an... interesting interpretation of the genre, if this performance is any indication. At the very least they could've give him a proper suit, that'd surely set the right mood!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLE0Y2JCoSg

He also records New Year's songs – gotta give him that, guy was crazily prepared long before finally landing an opportunity to perform at big holiday gala concerts! No comments on that outfit... OK, just one – he looks like a baby chick with its feathers ruffled, can't decide if it's more cute or embarrassing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryH_Nb3yOZE

Enough for tonight... or not? Since we've already talked about fashion, I feel like I need to make my stance on the matter clear – he looks his very best in blue, even legendary total black holds no candle to that! You've already heard this song, but it's good enough for second round you need to see for yourselves what I'm talking about – overall styling could've do some tweaks ofc, but the color, he's freaking glowing in it!

P.S. Right, last time I promised you a glimpse of his shameful dark past... Well, it's more amusing and “awww, baby boy had a wild youth!” than anything, but it took me AN EFFORT to dig it up and I have a hunch that he'd prefer this to stay buried forever... Technically it's a medley of his predebut movies, which makes it painfully obvious why none of them were successful))) Love the utter lack of glam and polish - yet another proof that cnetz are blind morons he's a natural cutie. That smile! *melts * And that glare, ahem... Are you ready? Btw I'm posting this separately because filter will surely riot - tho probably less than the hero of link's content^^

I'm wondering about the Korean attitude to LGBTQ couples. I see many BL shows on viki- most are from Thailand and Japan. So this would mean that Asian countries differ in their acceptance of couples. Korea seems to be very strict Traditional Family but as marriage is abandoned, have non-traditional options been excepted?
I fully believe that many of the actors we love must keep their sexual orientation secret- an added pressure to a life of concern over being seen as attached to anyone in the crazy fan culture.

NOTE- I have not watched Wedding Impossible yet but will when it is over- my question comes from love for all people, including my family members who are gay.

Hi - I like to look for the things said between the light - and also, in the completely vain hope of persuading someone I know that they should watch K-dramas with me - I have seen a good deal of LGBT content in Korean Dramas.
Most often, it is hinted at, and then ignored, or in any case left in a way so that people can claim there was no such hint. I have discussed before (without any facit list, and also, I think it can be both) whether it's "gay-baiting" or a way of making representation when it's hard to be open about it.
It's not forbidden, but probably, you will not get financing for your show with LGBT main content ... otherwise, I would imagine there would be more.
I know you weren't asking about it, but if you want to, I can give you some examples.

Yeah, there's a lot of queer-coding in mainstream dramas, some of it rather alarming, and when characters are written as explicitly LGBTQ+, they tend to be in secondary roles and almost never get actual love lines (or at least not happy love lines). There are some exceptions - oddly I've found some of the representation in older shows to be better than some of the representation in more recent ones.

2

what Putin, Trump, Xi and other misogynist dicks have in common is that they dont have any specific talent. if we remember Hitler, he was not accepted to art school. so there is a great inferiority complex there

3

Yes, @dncingemma , hence "mankind" not just SK. 🙁

1

And yes, there is also the queer-coding of villains, which I hate, but I am more talking about the hints that someone ought to be a same sex couple, or that a character isn't cis, or that someone is totally in a relationship though it is disguised as banter and friendship, but has a lot of symbols included + looks more like flirting.

Thank you. I have also noticed the hinted content. I have heard that a large portion of the audience of kdramas are Muslim countries. This information has been used to describe the modest dress and actions on a show. If this is correct, that would also affect the LGBTQ content. I'm definitely not complaining about the kind of content available. I'm just interested in all influences to Kdramas and their production.

1

In large part because South Korea has a very politically active, very conservative Evangelical Christian movement, it's been very slow in terms of either social or legal acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community, even as compared to other Asian countries. I'm pretty certain the number of out Korean celebrities can still be counted on one hand, although there has been an increase in openly queer characters in dramas and films recently. I will say though that the quality of that representation, especially in mainstream dramas, can be pretty hit-and-miss (representation in short, lower budget specifically queer-focused web dramas tends to be better).

9

Required fields are marked *

Thanks! I had no idea about the Christian movement and the state leader from the previous comment. It seems like Korea is heading towards a social protest explosion. As Princess Leia said in Star Wars 4

4
2

Required fields are marked *

Korea is pretty unique in Asia in having a significant Christian population (both Catholic and Protestant). It's about a third of the population and leans conservative on social issues, although obviously it's not a completely homogeneous group. In terms of protests, the last time a conservative government was in charge, things got so bad that millions of Koreans took the street in the so-called Candlelight protests in 2016-2017. This ultimately led to the president being impeached and imprisoned. After the president was removed from office it was discovered that she'd strongly considered ordering the army to massacre the protesters a la Tiananmen Square. So yeah, the conservative party in South Korea is really, really problematic and has roots in the dictatorships that controlled South Korea up until 1988.

In Thailand, gay men were frown upon by straight men in the past (Some of my gay school classmates got teased and bullied for that. They weren’t accepted by straight men). However, somehow many of these people possessed some great talents, often in the fields of art as they have a strong feminine side to them. Many of them excelled in these areas and became well-known and respected. Many also made it to the top positions in many fields also (military, politics, you name it), so generally people are afraid of them because, besides the fact that many of them are in the top positions, they are also known to be sharp-tongue.

The new generations see this as something very normal: being LGBTQ+ or being gender-fluid. It’s like the fact that we eat food everyday: it’s just that normal.

But we also have so much straight men than women nowadays, and there are a lot of singles with potential. The joke is that nowadays men want more to be with men, so there are many single women with high profile and all. Many women fight for men also (for some reason), so many straight men are found to have cheated on his wives.

There are a fair number of BLs from Korea too but most pretend there is no discrimination nor a queer community around the couple. Undoubtedly, many are queer. Globally, people in the creative professions have always comprised higher than

Yeah, as someone who works in theatre and also studies/teaches theatre history, I can confirm that the entertainment world has always been a relatively queer-friendly space, even in otherwise repressive societies. I assume the current Asian entertainment world is the same, and that folks working in it are fully aware of the gender identities/sexual orientations of other folks in the business since these tend to be small communities where folks spend tons of time together. They just don't discuss it publicly for everyone's safety and well-being.

Yeah, it's really frustrating. It's pretty widely acknowledged that the reason so few Korean stars come out is that when Hong Seok Cheon, a popular TV host and actor, became the first celebrity to publicly acknowledge that he was gay (during a live TV interview in 2000 when someone asked him about it point blank) he was immediately fired and blacklisted from all jobs in the entertainment industry. He rebuilt his career by opening a series of restaurants, and has more recently returned to hosting shows and popping up in drama cameos, but it literally took years before people stopped treating him like a pariah. It had a huge chilling effect, and it took another 20 years before anyone else in the industry dared to publicly come out.

Kim Seon Ho is apart of a variety show again?! Good for him!

I didn't watch him on 1n2d but I saw some clips and it seemed he was a cute addition to that world.

He was adorable in 2D1N. His variety persona is very different from his image as an actor. I highly recommend you watch him in previous seasons of 2D1N.

Beanies, today I found out that a relatively recent friend of mine is also into kdramas! So now I might have someone to talk about dramas with IRL! This has never happened to me before! Not that they will replace all of you lovely people, don’t worry 😉, but I’m so excited!

I saw a video that said korean reporters had criticized some actors' movie performances and one of the criticisms I saw most was how the actors didn't seem like they were acting, they were just doing what they usually do. There was also mention about facial expressions

I don't quite understand that though it's not the first time I've seen such comments. I've seen that about Lee Jong Suk and Lee Min Ho. That even if their characters are different, certain characteristics are usually the same; for Jong Suk, his characters are some kind of "special" (super smart, has an ability, etc) for Min Ho, his characters are rich and he has some arrogance or playboy persona.

Thing is I feel like most Korean actors play similar characters if you look through a certain actors filmography. Like since I've been watching Lee Joon Gi, I see how often he's played characters who get screwed over to the point it's almost like [his characters] are cosmic playthings

Are there any truly chameleon type actors?
Maybe the guy from Unlocked and Summer Strike? Im Si Wan
He was SOOOOO creepy in the former and so passive in the latter

Your question makes me think of two things. One is that some Western actors have the same thing, like Harrison Ford and Kevin Costner are accused of being the same guy in every movie they do.
The other is for some reason I’m reminded of the scene in Queen of Tears 4 where Kim Ji Won acts like a normal person and the European old guy business owner is overacting and making ridiculous faces with every line like he’s possessed. Oh my gosh, he was so bad! The definition of “chewing up the scenery” 🤭

I've seen the same thing said about Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, and Kevin Hart. I know for sure Ryan has tried to do something different when he did that movie when he was buried alive (I didn't watch it cause that's nightmare fuel for me but from what I've read about it, the gist is different to his typical roles).

When Kevin Hart was cast in some video game based movie, people complained he was miscast cause they could already assume he'll just be "Kevin Hart" with the role.

One thing I often see when people complain about Korean actors' work, they'll talk about their facial expressions or lack thereof. One actor that comes to mind is the lead actress of Boys over Flowers. People said in her dramas since then, she didn't seem to grow as an actress at all, moving the same faces.

And I'm like but that's her face. How many different expressions is she supposed to be able to make?

During Love Song for Illusion, I saw some criticisms about the lead actress not being able to so many expressions or range in her acting those *some* consideration was given because she's still considered a rookie actress.

I've seen Park Seo Joon (is that his name? The guy from Itawon Class?) and Song Joong Ki called mid actors or overrated and I don't know what people mean by that.

I think more than anything else, the actors tend to become typecast because their audience loves them in that. Acting is just not the face, it's the entire body language - the face, the shoulers, the gait, even the way they sit or stand or walk. In fact, I feel the most important would be eyes and voice modulation and it makes all the difference. They can look same in every movie and yet make the character different.
An actor who overdoes it can be reeled back by a great director, but an actor who does not have it will have a hard time to do much, even though the fans might lap it up. Lee Min Ho is indeed one such actor. He has a great screen presence with a very limited range. Park Seo Joon is good but not great. Or perhaps he has not been challenged enough yet.
If you go Hollywood, from Keanu Reeves to Tom Cruise to Liam Neeson, they are always offered a certain kind of roles. However, some of them have broken the ceiling and been able to showcase what they are capable of. Lianardo Da Caprio is one such actor. Tom Crusie has also done a limited number of variety and has aced it. Mat Damon can also be counted in that. Ditto for Robert Downey Junior and Daniel Craig. Meryl Streep is the Queen of body and voice acting.

Some Korean actors (and actors in general) do tend to play the same types of characters over and over again, but there are others who have enormous range. Some of my personal favorite "chameleons" include Cho Seung Woo, Oh Jung Se, Choo Ja Hyun, Choi Moo Sung & Byun Yo Han.

I think I only recognize 2 names on this list. Why do you consider them chameleons?

Do chameleons tend to play lead roles or are they usually 2nd leads and villians?

Hmm, would the guy from The [Good] Bad Mother be a chameleon? He's played a middle aged dad in a teen's body in 18 Again, the traumatized doctor in The Glory, The jerk & a 7 year old in T[G]BM. I don't know what his character was like in the Sweet Home series.

I'd call them chameleons because they're able to play extremely different roles convincingly (for instance, playing a romantic lead in one show, a villain in the next, and a comic sidekick in the next). Some of these actors like Cho Seung Woo tend to play leads while others like Choi Moo Sung tend to play a wide range of secondary roles.

In Korea entertainment, actors seemed to get typecast pretty early in their careers. Even movie actors get pegged into action, comedy, melo-rom, etc.

Off the top of my head, one actress has had a wide range of characters and genres: Jo Yeo Jeong. But she had to take career threatening chances by doing R-rated sageuks early in her career. She can really change her emotes to fit her character in mysteries, psycho-thrillers, comedies, historical dramas and she even starred in a stage musical.

A MISSIVE FROM 9TAILEDVIXEN'S UBER-BUSY WEEK:

1. The Case of the Non-Appearing Ticket

It is just ONE WEEK before The Rose's concert and the ticket has yet to appear on my AXS app despite me following up with The OVO Wembley and AXS.

If I have to go deal with this at the box office when I get there all jetlagged, I will be EXTREMELY put out, to say the least.

I hope Woosung Oppa's glorious voice is worth all this hassle...

2. Aerial Yoga

I managed to do the "Batman" pose today hahaha:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzKf5pF2NOk

This will be last class until May as I will be travelling. The Yoga instructor told me to do planks and keep working on my splits every morning so I don't go back to square one once I'm back.

3. This week in Korean Women's News:

(a) Korean women still struggle to shatter glass ceiling in finance sector

In the financial sector, the number of female executives or CEOs is particularly very low, as they face a double glass ceiling due to the financial industry's uniquely conservative and masculine corporate culture that has made it difficult for female workers to be promoted to top management positions.

Among the holding companies and subsidiaries of Korea's four major financial groups — KB, Shinhan, Hana and Woori — female CEOs exist at only 6 percent, or four companies, out of a total of 59 as of September 2023.

(b) Career or family? The dilemma facing women in South Korea

'Women staying in work is essential for the economy, says Park Yoon-soo, economics professor at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul. “The problem is that social structure, including the work environment, makes it difficult for women to balance work and family life — so many of them are forced to choose one or the other.”'

@reply1988 I'm the LEAST flexible in my Aerial Yoga class *cries* but my instructor is patient and I'm able to do the simple stuff and most of the on-the-ground yoga stuff that uses the silks for resistance. Today, I earned my first bruises and scrapes on my arms and ankles from climbing the silks!

One day at a time! But yes, I'll be doing my Yoga planks and stretches and splits in the mornings while I'm travelling.

I will still log in while I'm travelling. I have started DR SLUMP and it is simply delightful! Park Hyung-Sik and Park Shin-Hye FTW! So I'll be watching it while waiting for my flights (including the loooooong layovers). Plus PARASYTE: THE GREY and BLOOD FREE are kicking off soon so I'll be watching those in the evenings after running around all day.

Honestly, I am looking at my trip itinerary and I'm already feeling tired in advance because 9TailedVixen The Introvert (TM) gonna suddenly be a gawddamn 9TailedVixen the Social Butterfly (TM). So many friends and family members to visit!

Hopefully, you have built in your self care quiet times so you don’t burn out. With all the flights and lurgie risks you need to be vigilant health wise. Hope you have a great time with all the meet ups and looking forward to hearing the updates.

Oh no poor you just as you gain one skill and get quietly confident, you still hurt yourself in the next move but hopefully the painful lessons will be few.

I hope you get good WiFi to watch the shows and no issues with availability in the different places.

Bruises from the silks is part and parcel of doing Aerial Yoga (as I've discovered first hand). It's inevitable, really, with the friction as you slide and push again the silks.

I will definitely be having quiet downtime in between all that socialising. I'm staying with friends and family and everyone has wi-fi at home. Plus I've bought some SIM cards with a generous amount of data so I can watch my K-Dramas while on the move.

Right now the only thing stressing me out (besides Emirates Airlines' idiotic luggage rules) is my concert ticket still not appearing in the ticketing app. My eyes - they are rolling so hard they are about to fall out of my head!

1

Oh, I didn't think about friction burns being a recreational hazard, but even my rowing machine gives sore bum and callouses on the hands without adequate precautions.
Good to know you are prepared with data to cover all eventualities!
The ticket app sounds rubbish what’s the point in tech that can’t do the basics it was supposed to eradicate; anxiety and queuing😬

Did You Know? Character Limits on Dramabeans Comments Edition
Did you know that there are different character limits for different types of comments and posts on Dramabeans? Some of these limits are "breakable" and others are not.

1. Fan Wall Main Posts
Many of us have overcome the (apparent) 200-character limit on all Fan Wall OP posts. If you have not, instructions for how to do that are simple, and spelled out by yours truly here: https://www.dramabeans.com/members/attiton/activity/1452362/.

TL;DR: Paste in your content from elsewhere, but don't use your keyboard to do it, use the contextual menu revealed via your mouse or by force-pressing.

But! As @sicarius reminded the newbs in, um, 2020...there's still actually something like a 20,000 character limit on the Fan Wall posts. EVEN MORE still, long Fan Wall posts can start pressuring WordPress to break down at about 9,000 characters. So, stick to below 9,000 characters is the advice @sicarius offers. Apparently she broke Dramabeans once.

2. Comments Anywhere Else
Apart from OP Fan Wall posts, there's a 3,000 character limit on all other comments. So, whether you're replying directly to a Fan Wall Post or a Main Site Post, or replying to a comment on a Fan Wall Post or a Main Site Post, you've got 3,000 characters before you get that dreaded ellipsis ("...") that cuts you off in mid-sentence.

There's no workaround for this one, but we want to hear what you have to say!! So, simply reply to your own comment, and finish your thought. Done!

Or, if you like, you can check beforehand to see if your commentary will fit in one comment by using Word or a text editor to count your characters beforehand. A quick internet search shows that there are any number of free, but ad-filled, sites that will do it for you too.

PS: Another tip from Sic. Emojis count for two characters! I believe her, but even though I sort of work in this industry for real, I didn't know that!! Seems technically plausible! Thanks, 친구!

OK.

On a phone, once you have what you want to post to the Fan Wall copied to your clipboard and are ready to paste it, you'll want to press and hold your finger (force-press) on the compose pane found on your own Fan Wall.

Doing that should bring up a contextual menu that has the option to paste. Go ahead and do that.

But here's the trick...once all the words show up in the compose pane? Don't touch them again.

The only thing you can touch after that is the "post" button in the lower right hand part of the pane.

I've written the whole operation out here as well (same link as above), including how to find the compose pane for your own Fan Wall:
https://www.dramabeans.com/members/attiton/activity/1452362/

Britney, it's right click, copy, right click, paste. It works for me so far. On my Mac it's two fingers touch. On Windows touchpad, it's a slight press.

I noticed it a lot of times, but I got used to it now. I don’t think the men look better with pink lipstick (it kind of makes them look less masculine to me), but I have no problem with that. I just hope my guy friends won’t begin to like pink lipsticks all at once. Let the girls have some space to breathe.

I think that the Japanese are not so open about LGBT relationships, if they show that type of relationships it is more for business, since there are a lot of profits, for example, yaoi manga sells very well, they have many female fans especially (probably the majority of the dramas are adaptations of yaoi manga), they also have bars/restaurants with the theme of hosts who fall in love with the male waiters, all as an experience for the customer, etc. but as you can see it is more represented by entertainment. I have seen videos of YouTubers who live in Japan and they say japanese are not so open to expressing these types of relationships freely, it is not that it is prohibited but being a country where the majority are elderly people who are highly respected, well, its difficult to be open with this kind of relationship. I don't know about Thailand, but I think they are more open compared to Japan and Korea.

I've also heard that there is still a lot of discrimination and stigma in Japan around queer relationships. Taiwan is currently the only country in Asia that fully allows and recognizes same-sex marriage, although I believe marriage equality is about to go into effect in Thailand soon as well.

I have seen a few stories in which characters gift shoes and wondered about it. Then, I realised that the stories I watched didn't end well.
The King's Affection - the Prince gifts red shoes to Yi Hiwi and loses her to another man.
My Dearest: Well, they go on to have a really messed up life, irrespective of the forced happy ending.
Our Blooming Youth: The Sargent sends his would-be wife a pair of pink shoes and goes on to not only lose her, but lose her to the Crown Prince no less.
I wonder if the writers weave in these clues ahead of time.
