The pie was sadly lackluster at best, and while I despondently went for a refill of coffee, I noticed a man in a green sweater with a Harry Potter sticker on his wallet as he waited to pay for his coffee.
(Every kdrama fan knows the appeal of a good sweater)
I complimented him on it, and asked him what Hogwarts house he was, and well, we kept talking from there.
He sat by me and my tough crusted pie, and we talked about many things. Mainly Harry Potter, but also dogs, traveling, church, the proper way to clean a shower stall, more Harry Potter, the fact neither of us can actually drink coffee black.
A couple of hours later, the bakery was closing, and I was no closer to finishing my disappointing tart.
“I don’t want to stop talking to you,” he said. “Are you hungry for dinner? Feel free to say no, whether or not you have plans.”
“Do you like Korean food?” I asked him, “There’s a place across town with good ddeokbokki.”
He hadn’t had Korean food before, but we met again at the local Korean place, twenty minutes and one desperate call to my best friend later. (I needed someone to talk me down from running away, because cute men in green sweaters are a weakness I didn’t know I had).
Over ddeokbokki we talked about our workplace stress, politics, racism, religion, gay rights. The ahjummas at the restaurant laughed at us as we smiled across the table.
It was raining and dark when we left the restaurant, and he asked if I wanted to go to the movie theater. We stood together sheltered by the awning of the restaurant as we checked our phones for showtimes, only to see that we’d missed the regular showings, and the next wouldn’t be for another hour or two.
He asked for my number, and to text him when I got home safe. And to let him know if I wanted to get coffee again soon.
The next night I texted him to ask if he was free the next day for that coffee.
He said yes, but wanted dinner with me a couple days later too. I said yes, but requested an actual proper date that next weekend. He showed up Saturday morning, a week after that disappointing pie experience in the bakery, with flowers for me, treats for the cats, and a random assortment of food for us to make a tea tray together since that’s all he could figure that I liked to eat from my social media.
He bought them a cat tower a couple weeks ago. And this is a man who self proclaimedly disliked cats when we met. My cats make devoted slaves of us all.
Why am I sharing this story here? It’s not crazy exciting or anything, but I do feel 2020 needs more just everyday happy stories, because I know my anxiety can’t take anymore of the news.
Also Pie Guy makes me happy, and I wanted to talk about him. And share Yoon Shi Yoon gifs while doing so. Because a girl can do both.
You shared it to make me doubly happy! I love a good gif story and I wanted to hear about pie guy 🥧. Maybe @katakwasabi will share some of her coffee with you (to go with that pie) and @coffeprince4eva can shoot some finger hearts your way (sorry, not sorry @coffeprince4eva this includes so much cute and a sweater, so it was unavoidable).
Aw! So glad you made a gif story out of it! And yay for Pie Guy. And for wearing that green sweater. I hope another Beanie wedding will happen soon! And now I want to know what’s going on with @wakimary all of a sudden.
What do you mean this wasn’t craxy exciting? My sister would wake up from me squealing so loudly. Gah this is so cute ❤️ I would occasionally wonder that you have disappeared after Love, February but it’s amazing you were upto meeting a great guy. Thank you so much for sharing this happy story , it made me really happy.
It is exciting, but not in the world ending way the news seems to be so often.
I took a break from social media as well as DB, I needed to take some time to meet myself again off line (hence the tattoo and library life lol), But I’ve been missing gif stories and DB so I think I’m back for a while again.
PS: Seeing YSY’s angle tattoo made my day… it is so good to be able to laugh out loud in these depressing times and @ndlessjoie’s acute angle comment is just the icing on the top.
Aww, thank you! Pie Guy knows about how active I used to be in Kdrama forums, so he’s asked before if I’ve talked about him here. Guess I’ll have to let him know it’s a yes 😅😝😘
@ndlessjoie I was so hoping someone would catch the angle joke! Her comment made me so happy!
Awww Coco, that is so adorable! A disappointing slice of pie can sometimes be the start of something magical ❤ I’m so happy for you both, and for your cats too of course! Him buying them treats is so cute 😊 Thanks for sharing!
I love that more beanies are sharing their stories, there’s a beanie who’s been secretly updating me with her love-story because she told me my stories inspired her to put herself out there and open herself for love again, and that is so sweet.. I wish she’d share it with all the beanies and this could become a beanie thing! (of course, it’s her private life so no pressure!).
And you talk about him, cocoa, talk all you want, I know how it feels, he sounds like such a nice person and I’m really happy for both of you ❤️
Thanks for sharing. I hadn’t read it back in October because I took some days off at my dad’s (no internet or anything technological available, which was a nice change). This is a love story and nothing ordinary.

It was a week or so after Love, February ended this year, and I was attempting to make sense of my life again.
A tornado had hit my city, there were whispers of covid shutdowns in the wind, and I had just gotten a new tattoo.

So naturally, I did what any sane person would do.
I spent a morning in the library, picking out books at random.
Then went to my favorite bakery for some afternoon pie.

When he smiled it was a lopsided smile, with a big dimple just on one side.
He tells me that his first memory of that day is that when I laugh my whole body shakes and laughs with me.
