Thank you beanies for another Love, February. Somehow, I found this year’s stories more uplifting compared to last year. I remembered shedding tears over some of the entries last February but this year, I smiled a lot more reading them, which is good and we need something good in times of Covid.

When new acquaintances find out I have a pair of twins, their first question would be, “Are they identical?”, followed by, “Do twins run in your family?” And if I am feeling chatty, I would tell them, “Ahh… funny you should ask….” and I would go into my storytelling mood.
After five years of marriage and no baby in sight, Mom-in-law started to be concerned and on the advice of well-meaning relatives, she dragged Hubby to a Chinese temple known for granting wishes for couples praying for a child. When your wish is fulfilled, you donate 50 eggs for a girl and 100 eggs if the baby is a boy. Being of a different race and faith, I was spared from going to the temple so I cannot fact-check Hubby’s story.
On that morning, Hubby told me that he was exceptionally hungry so after praying, he secretly ate TWO of the boiled eggs (normally should just eat one) made available to visitors from the temple donation. And guess what? One year later, we were blessed with a pair of twin girls. He was so proud of his “achievement” that he told everyone and made it seem like biology and genes had nothing to do with it. It’s all about the two eggs he ate 🤣🤣 So whenever Twins gave me a hard time in their first few years, I would look at him accusingly and asked, “You can’t just eat ONE egg?”
And yes, Hubby donated 100 eggs to the temple on Twins’ one-month birthday celebration as promised 😊
I’ve never been the domestic sort. Before I quit my job, I couldn’t cook, and why bake when I can buy cakes and bread easily from the many bakeries around my neighbourhood.
Five years after I became a full time home maker, I could cook a simple meal (with liberal use of seasonings, I have to add 🤣) and I also learned to bake, not because I enjoyed it but I rather have my kids eat my homemade cookies than the more unhealthy version found in the supermarkets. I find baking easy and difficult at the same time. Easy because we can just follow the recipe, difficult because you have to be more careful than cooking during its execution. For e.g. I can try to salvage a badly turned out dish but I can’t do that with cookies and especially with cakes (or maybe I’m still a noob).
During the COVID lockdown, I tried a few baking recipes to occupy myself from going crazy. Some are duds, some are just ok, but I found this one cookie recipe that hit the right note with family and friends. And people like it enough that now I even manage to sell a few bottles of it for the upcoming Lunar New Year. While the extra income is welcomed, nothing beats the feeling that someone finds your cookies delicious enough for them to pay for it. For someone who thinks that people are just being nice when they ate my cookies, that sense of accomplishment is indescribable.

Baking (although not cooking — I’ve always had more of sweet tooth than anything else) has always been something I wanted to learn, but I have no natural talent for it and I feel learning it requires time which I don’t have right now. I hope one day I’m able to bake well enough for people to consider buying the stuff I make!

Well I hope one day you find the time to bake. It can be rather therapeutic although I find baking daunting initially. Recipes are a minefield I tell you. Some give the measurements in cups, in grams, in ounces and in sticks – why so complicated? 🤣🤣
I’m not sure I find it fun too 🤣🤣 but my fav part of baking is decorating the cookie jar for gifts – I love a pretty jar and the thought and effort that goes into it.
I definitely want to make some cookie jars just for the decorating! I love making things, I always try to make homemade cards and gifts, but lately its hard to make them since I have no one to give them to:(
“Mummy, braid my hair” said one of my teenage daughters practically every school day morning this year. Harried from having to wake up early to prepare their breakfast and snacks for school, I should mind having to do this additional chore but surprisingly I don’t.
It gives me pleasure to braid it for her – a simple one, nothing fancy and she is still pleased with my basic braiding skill. Our personal time together in the morning albeit too short and often in a rush. And I figure soon enough she will outgrow this, as teenage girls are wont to do. Until then, I shall cherish this moment with my heart.

What a wonderful drama! I cried, I laughed and I cried some more while watching this gem of a show. This drama resonated so much with me, especially the parent-child relationships. I also like how at the end, they acknowledge that they still have to work hard at their marriage, there are bad days and good days but as long as both partners are willing to work at it, it will be ok in the end.
Kudos to the scriptwriter, director and the great cast. And thank you to the beanies who recommended this drama on the fan wall – I would have missed it otherwise. What can I say but beanies are the best!
Beanies, he actually came to the wedding! I don’t know why that fact made me so happy but it did. He wasn’t out to scam her (well technically he lied to her practically about everything but so did she, so we call it even?). His character is questionable and grey but he planned to go through with the wedding so he sort of redeemed himself with me (I know, my standards are low but only pertaining to k-drama, I promised). I thought I was jaded with life but apparently I’m still a romantic at heart. Perhaps the story would be more interesting if he actually did a marriage scam but I’m glad he didn’t.
PS: OMG, he looked so dashing in his tux, no? And happy? #shallow_notshallow
I mean what does he really do? Is he a spy for GK Tech, in which scamming and fixing are part of his job description and his private detective agency is his cover? Or is he a full-time scammer, while working part-time secretly for GK Tech?

Me too…. I think his feelings towards her were genuine unless he is such a great scammer (which is totally possible). I do not know if I can root for the OTP if he was playing with her heart but there is still like 13 more episodes to go and I can’t tell how the story will be unfold.
Me too! Well, dang, they make a really beautiful OTP though! Which is why I decided to watch this but actually stayed because now I am CURIOUS of the bigger picture in this show! I am excited for tonights episode!
An example of why I love Han Shou of The Romance of Tiger and Rose so much (to think that I found him ‘meh’ when he first showed up in the drama): He smoothly turns a Science lesson into something swoon-worthy my teenage inner self cannot help but to squee at his romantic words (my ahjumma outer self, despite rolling her eyes at such cheesiness, is not immune to his charms either 🤣)
HS: What is oxygen?
QQ: It’s a type of gas on which humans live. Without it, people can’t survive.
HS: Then you are my oxygen!
The cheesiness works when acted with earnestness, and Ryan has that in spades. And I was the same as you – I think the filter they used for this drama made him look weirdly waxy? But his normal hair and real life pictures look so much better! And of course his acting and character made him look increasingly attractive with the episodes. I’m lining up all the Ryan dramas after this when I feel maybe ready to move on haha.
Once in a while, you found a drama that made your life a little brighter and made you laugh a lot harder. I discovered that a drama doesn’t have to be perfect or epic for it to steal your heart completely. All it needs is a simple story, told in a tongue-in-cheek manner, sprinkle it with lots of funny, throw in a spunky and warm (but rather clueless) heroine and a hero who wears his heart so openly on his sleeve. Since this is a rom-com, it would be nothing without the great chemistry between the OTP. Also, where would the drama be without its assortment of memorable side characters (Zi Rui, I’m looking at you boy!) that enriches the story even more. In a nutshell, this is what The Romance of Tiger & Rose , is to me 💕💕
The subbed version of the final episode was finally released and I (reluctantly) bid farewell to this wonderful fluffy drama. Thank you for letting me escape the harsh realities of today’s life, even if it is only for a short while. Thank you for the joy and laughter when I needed it the most. I love it so much that I even forgive it for the noble idiocy it threw at us and I‘m not the sort that forgive easily (I am still holding a grudge against Beautiful Gong Shim even after all these years and don’t even get me started with the recent I’ll Find You in My Memory).
I’m terribly incompetent at technologically complicated stuff like attaching gifs (I think laziness to learn make up 75% of it 😆) so please visit @13infamyss fanwall for the myriad of gifs she has on this drama. She is even more of a Ryan Ding fan girl than I am.

It is really hard to say goodbye! They were so funny during the interview – you can see how comfortable they are with each other that they look so natural bickering with each other but poor HS though, bring roasted by QQ haha (nope they are not YuXi and Lusi in that clip 🤣🤣)
A shoutout to bea @lugirl131415, @13infamyss and @outofthisworld for introducing me to Reset Life. Their superlative praises and fangirling over the show (ehmm *cough* Ryan Ding *cough*) made me watch the short & sweet 5-epi drama (when I told this to my daughters, in their typical teenage fashion, commented “Mom, nobody can made you watch a show”, and of course me being the mature adult, just rolled my eyes at them 🙄).
The drama was an easy watch (ok maybe not the first epi, her struggles was kinda hard to watch). As warned, the subtitles are atrocious (not gonna complain about Netflix subs ever again after this 😂) Luckily, my comprehension level in Mandarin is similar to a 5-year old kid learning the language so I can sort of understand the basics. I like how the FL learned to stand up for herself but gurl, please, when a vehicle is barreling towards you, just move, can? Even better, run for your life!
The OTP is great together, and the way they look at each other, their eyes dripping with honey (repeating @outofthisworld’s astute observations) made me smile uncontrollably. And of course, I can’t help but to swoon over Ryan Ding doing swoony stuff for the FL. To be fair, he already caught my eye from me (binge)-watching The Romance of Tiger & Rose (I blamed another beanie for this) but now my fangirling has gone up a notch (ok fine, more than a notch but hey who’s counting 😆)
Now off to watch new episodes of Tiger & Rose which I am currently kind of obsessed with (to put it mildly). For now, there is no such thing as too much Ryan Ding💕💕
I really didn’t expect to get hooked on the Romance of Tiger and Rose – the most I had hoped for is mildly interested since I haven’t manage to complete any C drama to-date except for Put Your Head on My Shoulder. So imagine my surprise how much I like this drama so far. I just hope the angsty part is short.
I’m addicted to this drama! I even became a WeTV VIP member to watch it 😅 and now I’m seeing how long I can hold out before I become a VVIP member so I get all access to the last few episodes next week. I can tell you my perseverance is not good. Ryan and Lu Si are great and so cute together ❤
It is so tempting isn’t it?? To join the VVIP and get ALL the episodes. However, I read that there will be no English subs for those episode so I suppose it’s a blessing in disguise (my shipper heart however disagree) since my Mandarin is only at kindergarten level so there is no point for me to even consider 😭😭
Psst….. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched that 2nd clip in YT to “motivate” me esply when QQ was being unreasonably stubborn to the fact that they belong together.

While I like this drama, personally I think Ryan Ding (and the OTP) is better in Tiger & Rose but I regret nothing 😆😆😆 I mean how often can you get a no noble idiocy, no OTP miscommunication and no unnecessary time skip?

I personally believe Ryan has great chemistry with his co-stars. I’ve seen 3 shows he led roles so far and I’ve got another Ryan show I am eyeing on and can confidently confirm the great chemistry he has with them! And he seems to be really friendly with them too. So I don’t believe he’s into Zhao Lu Si on that level, but I’m glad to see that they’re having fun on the set! Watching Zhao Lu Si BTS is such pure joy, she’s just full of energy and playful!
Lmaooooooo @trinpie I’ve seen more than enough of intense love BTS, ogling at how beautiful he was on there, to know he has great chemistry with Zhang Yu Xi 🙈🙉🙊
Auuuugh ep 14 came out today y`all. I`m sad that I finished these new episodes that came out fast TT____TT I have nothing to Ryan watch again. OTP is sooooooo cute. we need moaaaaar kiss ngl.
He is so adorable, they both are ❤️❤️❤️ Yes, more kissing, less vacillating and misunderstanding (unless misunderstanding leads to kissing then I approve) pretty please. The earlier parts of Ep13 made me smile like a crazy person, Ep14 not so much… Now I have to wait 5 long days before the next episode is up 😭😭
This scene made me laugh so hard cuz we talked about how Peng was towering Ryan (that he’s a tiny cutie hottie babe) and the show did poke fun of his height! 😭😂
The drama was the perfect length imo. It was long enough to tell a heartfelt and romantic story that made sense without getting draggy. They both liked each other so it made sense to get together and that was that. No drama or theatrics. And Ryan was so swoony in it 😍

And in my mind, they are dating!

This was him?? I saw this in the fanwall I think and it left an impression due to how super close and familiar they were in that photoshoot but I didn’t know who Ryan Ding was then. Now I know better… @13infamyss, stop ruining me further!
I know I’m just asking for it but I do have a weakness for guys wearing three-pc suit (in addition to tux of course) so thanks @13infamyss for ruining my life (say it in a grudging voice but inside feeling like this 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 haha)
So we are part of a discord channel together and one night in their need for Ryan a few of the girls decided to watch this drama. I wasn’t able to join in but read all the discussions so the next day I went to see what the big deal was, so gave it a try and ended up watching all 5 episodes in a single sitting. We are now all head-over-heels in love with Ryan.
The drama was short and sweet but managed to tell a wonderful and satisfying story. The first episode was rough and I admit I got teary eyed in the 2nd episode when she realized her mom was alive again (I recently went through a scare with my mom so it really hit home). But I’m glad she immediately stepped up and took control of her life and happiness. And Ryan played the adorable, sweet and loveable puppy perfectly. Though I must say one of my favorite scenes was the catwalk scene and Zhang Man’s awesome wink
Oh on another note, most of the actors in the drama were actually from a reality acting show where they are newbies competing to be the best actors. The winners would get roles in the drama. And unsurprisingly Ryan was #1 😁 though surprisingly the actress who played the FL was I think #8 but she also did a phenomenal job.

The sweetest feeling in my heart when my picky daughters polished off the French toast that I made for them for the first time. It wasn’t the greatest but it was made with 💕 (and hours of looking for recipes on the internet, ok fine, 10 minutes at most but it felt like hours 😄)

I’ve never been the domestic sort. Before I quit my job, I couldn’t cook, and why bake when I can buy cakes and bread easily from the many bakeries around my neighbourhood.
Five years after I became a full time home maker, I could cook a simple meal (with liberal use of seasonings, I have to add 🤣) and I also learned to bake, not because I enjoyed it but I rather have my kids eat my homemade cookies than the more unhealthy version found in the supermarkets. I find baking easy and difficult at the same time. Easy because we can just follow the recipe, difficult because you have to be more careful than cooking during its execution. For e.g. I can try to salvage a badly turned out dish but I can’t do that with cookies and especially with cakes (or maybe I’m still a noob).
During the COVID lockdown, I tried a few baking recipes to occupy myself from going crazy. Some are duds, some are just ok, but I found this one cookie recipe that hit the right note with family and friends. And people like it enough that now I even manage to sell a few bottles of it for the upcoming Lunar New Year. While the extra income is welcomed, nothing beats the feeling that someone finds your cookies delicious enough for them to pay for it. For someone who thinks that people are just being nice when they ate my cookies, that sense of accomplishment is indescribable.

Baking (although not cooking — I’ve always had more of sweet tooth than anything else) has always been something I wanted to learn, but I have no natural talent for it and I feel learning it requires time which I don’t have right now. I hope one day I’m able to bake well enough for people to consider buying the stuff I make!

Well I hope one day you find the time to bake. It can be rather therapeutic although I find baking daunting initially. Recipes are a minefield I tell you. Some give the measurements in cups, in grams, in ounces and in sticks – why so complicated? 🤣🤣

“Mummy, braid my hair” said one of my teenage daughters practically every school day morning this year. Harried from having to wake up early to prepare their breakfast and snacks for school, I should mind having to do this additional chore but surprisingly I don’t.
It gives me pleasure to braid it for her – a simple one, nothing fancy and she is still pleased with my basic braiding skill. Our personal time together in the morning albeit too short and often in a rush. And I figure soon enough she will outgrow this, as teenage girls are wont to do. Until then, I shall cherish this moment with my heart.

What a wonderful drama! I cried, I laughed and I cried some more while watching this gem of a show. This drama resonated so much with me, especially the parent-child relationships. I also like how at the end, they acknowledge that they still have to work hard at their marriage, there are bad days and good days but as long as both partners are willing to work at it, it will be ok in the end.
Kudos to the scriptwriter, director and the great cast. And thank you to the beanies who recommended this drama on the fan wall – I would have missed it otherwise. What can I say but beanies are the best!

Beanies, he actually came to the wedding! I don’t know why that fact made me so happy but it did. He wasn’t out to scam her (well technically he lied to her practically about everything but so did she, so we call it even?). His character is questionable and grey but he planned to go through with the wedding so he sort of redeemed himself with me (I know, my standards are low but only pertaining to k-drama, I promised). I thought I was jaded with life but apparently I’m still a romantic at heart. Perhaps the story would be more interesting if he actually did a marriage scam but I’m glad he didn’t.

An example of why I love Han Shou of The Romance of Tiger and Rose so much (to think that I found him ‘meh’ when he first showed up in the drama): He smoothly turns a Science lesson into something swoon-worthy my teenage inner self cannot help but to squee at his romantic words (my ahjumma outer self, despite rolling her eyes at such cheesiness, is not immune to his charms either 🤣)

The cheesiness works when acted with earnestness, and Ryan has that in spades. And I was the same as you – I think the filter they used for this drama made him look weirdly waxy? But his normal hair and real life pictures look so much better! And of course his acting and character made him look increasingly attractive with the episodes. I’m lining up all the Ryan dramas after this when I feel maybe ready to move on haha.

Once in a while, you found a drama that made your life a little brighter and made you laugh a lot harder. I discovered that a drama doesn’t have to be perfect or epic for it to steal your heart completely. All it needs is a simple story, told in a tongue-in-cheek manner, sprinkle it with lots of funny, throw in a spunky and warm (but rather clueless) heroine and a hero who wears his heart so openly on his sleeve. Since this is a rom-com, it would be nothing without the great chemistry between the OTP. Also, where would the drama be without its assortment of memorable side characters (Zi Rui, I’m looking at you boy!) that enriches the story even more. In a nutshell, this is what The Romance of Tiger & Rose , is to me 💕💕
The subbed version of the final episode was finally released and I (reluctantly) bid farewell to this wonderful fluffy drama. Thank you for letting me escape the harsh realities of today’s life, even if it is only for a short while. Thank you for the joy and laughter when I needed it the most. I love it so much that I even forgive it for the noble idiocy it threw at us and I‘m not the sort that forgive easily (I am still holding a grudge against Beautiful Gong Shim even after all these years and don’t even get me started with the recent I’ll Find You in My Memory).

A shoutout to bea @lugirl131415, @13infamyss and @outofthisworld for introducing me to Reset Life. Their superlative praises and fangirling over the show (ehmm *cough* Ryan Ding *cough*) made me watch the short & sweet 5-epi drama (when I told this to my daughters, in their typical teenage fashion, commented “Mom, nobody can made you watch a show”, and of course me being the mature adult, just rolled my eyes at them 🙄).
The drama was an easy watch (ok maybe not the first epi, her struggles was kinda hard to watch). As warned, the subtitles are atrocious (not gonna complain about Netflix subs ever again after this 😂) Luckily, my comprehension level in Mandarin is similar to a 5-year old kid learning the language so I can sort of understand the basics. I like how the FL learned to stand up for herself but gurl, please, when a vehicle is barreling towards you, just move, can? Even better, run for your life!
The OTP is great together, and the way they look at each other, their eyes dripping with honey (repeating @outofthisworld’s astute observations) made me smile uncontrollably. And of course, I can’t help but to swoon over Ryan Ding doing swoony stuff for the FL. To be fair, he already caught my eye from me (binge)-watching The Romance of Tiger & Rose (I blamed another beanie for this) but now my fangirling has gone up a notch (ok fine, more than a notch but hey who’s counting 😆)
Now off to watch new episodes of Tiger & Rose which I am currently kind of obsessed with (to put it mildly). For now, there is no such thing as too much Ryan Ding💕💕

I personally believe Ryan has great chemistry with his co-stars. I’ve seen 3 shows he led roles so far and I’ve got another Ryan show I am eyeing on and can confidently confirm the great chemistry he has with them! And he seems to be really friendly with them too. So I don’t believe he’s into Zhao Lu Si on that level, but I’m glad to see that they’re having fun on the set! Watching Zhao Lu Si BTS is such pure joy, she’s just full of energy and playful!

The drama was the perfect length imo. It was long enough to tell a heartfelt and romantic story that made sense without getting draggy. They both liked each other so it made sense to get together and that was that. No drama or theatrics. And Ryan was so swoony in it 😍

And I ended up liking the side characters too! I was uncomfortable watching Chen Yi Bo at first because he was such a nice guy through and through and even nicely bowed out when he knew Xiaxi was into someone else. And how they still became close friends. And Zhang Man! OMG! So freaking gorgeous Zhang Man! I love love love the twirl that she did for Xiaxi. I love their friendship. And in my mind, they are dating!

So we are part of a discord channel together and one night in their need for Ryan a few of the girls decided to watch this drama. I wasn’t able to join in but read all the discussions so the next day I went to see what the big deal was, so gave it a try and ended up watching all 5 episodes in a single sitting. We are now all head-over-heels in love with Ryan.
The drama was short and sweet but managed to tell a wonderful and satisfying story. The first episode was rough and I admit I got teary eyed in the 2nd episode when she realized her mom was alive again (I recently went through a scare with my mom so it really hit home). But I’m glad she immediately stepped up and took control of her life and happiness. And Ryan played the adorable, sweet and loveable puppy perfectly. Though I must say one of my favorite scenes was the catwalk scene and Zhang Man’s awesome wink

Oh on another note, most of the actors in the drama were actually from a reality acting show where they are newbies competing to be the best actors. The winners would get roles in the drama. And unsurprisingly Ryan was #1 😁 though surprisingly the actress who played the FL was I think #8 but she also did a phenomenal job.

The sweetest feeling in my heart when my picky daughters polished off the French toast that I made for them for the first time. It wasn’t the greatest but it was made with 💕 (and hours of looking for recipes on the internet, ok fine, 10 minutes at most but it felt like hours 😄)

They are fraternal but very similar-looking that people do mistake them as identical… to be honest, when I look at some of their baby photos, I couldn’t tell them apart but let’s not tell them that 🤣🤣🤣
