Listen, I don’t mean to be rude towards anyone who is a genuine Cha Eun-woo fan (we all have our favorites and I don’t judge anyone for who they think is a good actor—I’m sure many, many people disagree with mine!) but it’s so funny to me when a show with someone like Cha Eun-woo comes on. You take a look at the recaps and at least half of the comments are from people without profile pictures and you click on their accounts and either they are brand new with their only comments talking about what an amazing actor Cha Eun-woo is or they are an older account that only comes around for Cha Eun-woo dramas. Talking about what an amazing actor Cha Eun-woo is, of course.

I think these are genuine, real people but they seem so much like bots it’s funny to me. 😭

Oh yes the sudden influx of greyed out ‘unregistered’ commenters 🤦‍♀️. There are some actors (male and female) whose dramas will always have masses of these comments.

    6
    1

They’ve even gone to the effort of making accounts now! Talk about dedication! They probably thought (rightfully) that most users tend to zone out when reading greyed-out comments, or skip them entirely lol.

      3
      1

Oh no they got me. I definitely skip comments which are very obviously of this variety 😅.

This kind of people can’t understand people can have different opinion and instead to ignore the negative comments about actors they like, they attack in a very immature way…

    8
    1

I want to say they probably are immature and actual kids, but so many times these people turn out to be fully grown adults…

      4
      1

They like so much the actor/actress, they take negative comments personnaly, it hurts them. So they feel like they need to defend their actor or convince people who don’t like him.

I guess they’re too invested in CEW and can’t take a step back because it’s not important if somebody doesn’t like him.

I remember a while back saying something slightly negative about an actor’s (lack of) range (I can’t even remember now who it was, lol) and getting two immediate replies from unregistered users attempting to school me on how amazingly talented and hardworking that same actor was, lol. I definitely thought it was bots at the time because I couldn’t imagine a person would spend their time lurking around all sorts of sites in the off chance someone said something negative about their fave so they could then pounce. But now that I think about it, I guess there are a lot of those people in the world.

Oh, there definitely are! It’s always amazing to me!

i just hinted at it on the recap. 🤭 I think too that they’re real, just super fans or something. It’s cool. Tho some of the comments are barebones and similar. Would some of these folks stay on tho? They might fall in love with DramaBeans. One can hope.

I still consider myself newish and with no profile pic. (I can’t pict just the ONE!) But I promise I’m real. Didn’t I just annoy everyone with my longwinded sermon on your other post? But I put effort into it! 😂

    2

I suppose it’s true they might fall in love with Dramabeans…. but not if they can’t stand someone having a different opinion than them, haha.

Feel free to continue to go profile-less! But I will say having a profile picture adds some personality to one’s comments!

      1

@mindy, your current profile pic is SPECIAL and I mean that in the best possible way! 😆 I didn’t have one for a long time because I was technologically challenged, and I couldn’t come up with anything Kdrama-related that satisfied me.

I wonder what will happen to these sad little superfans when there’s eventually rumors or news that their idol is dating or getting married. That level of obsession is unhealthy (for them and for the objects of their affection).

        1
        1

Oh no, and I just changed it! 😆 Maybe I should go back?

There are some people who pick one profile picture and keep it for eternity and it becomes their defining feature. I am the type of person who changes it on a whim whenever I feel like it. I like to keep people on their toes. 😛

Your is perfect, Elinor! It’s so you!

          2
          2

LOL, don’t change it on my account! I love the new one, too – they are so cute! – but the point is whether YOU like it. (I will absolutely not name nyms but there is one here that gives me a feeling of revulsion every time I see it, but that’s my problem, not theirs.) I change my display handle on a whim so why not?

And thanks! Sadly, in real life I’m no closer to being an iron-willed medieval duchess than I am to being an adorable kdrama character.

The pics on my phone are so teeny that I never thought of it. I will pay closer attn.

But Elinor, I can clearly see yours. And you are forever identified as Kathryn Hepburn in The Lion in Winter for me.

I didn’t know you were even picking a profile pick, @indyfan! I mean, you want we should pick one for you?? I have lots of ideaaaas!!!!

So… here’s my take on it: Do you think this could be for eye candy related? Or do you think Cha Eun-woo is promoting his acting career, one corrupted Beanie at a time?

I mean, if it’s the second option, Eun-woo-sshi, I’m taking either cash or hotteok. Either works, thank you.

    9
    1

LOL. I’ll accept hotteok, too! Especially with the days getting colder! Some nice, warm, fresh hotteok!

I have nothing against Cha Eun-woo. I think he’s pretty, and I’ve even listened to some of his songs out of curiosity, so I get the appeal, but not as an actor (yet).
I got annoyed with some of the comments, and it turned me into a demon for a day.

    9
    2

I think “yet” is a good way to put it. He has charms for sure. And a stiff short smile cut it in this round; whether it was good acting or just his usual mouth lift, that is what is tbd.

Hum… I don’t really remember. But it was about the fact he won some prizes, was recognized by the public, etc. But I just tagged because there was the word “b!tch”.

Something to the effect – earn your own money and cast whoever you want.
            Totally out of left field.
            Random blah blah.
I was happy @Kurama reported them and wanted to “like” her post!

And that CEW is bankable star (… whatever that means!!) and earns lots of money. 💰
            🤣

            0

Oh my. I was feeling indulgent. But that’s no good. One of the reasons I stay off the other forums is that Beanies are far more considerate and thoughtful even with their criticism. This is not the kind of growth in numbers I was hoping for.

I’m happy you didn’t have to see that Kiara thanks to Kurama.

Ugh didn’t realise the comments get abusive too. Good job on reporting 👏

These commentators are really funny and the way they pop out swords drawn at every real or imagined insult of their favorite is weird beyond belief.
Difficult to say bots or real persons scanning comments on Cha Eun-woo or any other person of their choice.
I actually wonder what would Cha Eun-woo have to say about these internet warriors – as per all accounts he seems to be a polite, well-mannered boy just like Rowoon or any other young idol aspiring to be an actor.
    😂

Idols aspiring to be actors, some make the cut, some don’t. We shall see!

      5
      1

By now he’s made this cut I think. I mean, I’m not sure he will be the first offered a complex, multilayered character that veers too far from his safe zone, but I think it’s safe to say he definitely has a future in the industry. I’ll be curious to see how his career progresses, to be honest. Island was a good departure for him in terms of genre and also letting his seniors take the lead, so we’ll see!

That’s funny. I had to look up who he is 🤷‍♀️

I really did, and then I forgot again and had to re-look him up to answer you! 🤣🤣🤣 I’m really bad at remembering names and have only seen Rookie Historian (of all his work). Soooo, he’s the Dog Guy which is now how I’ll probably remember him 🤦🏼‍♀️

I noticed that too. I commented on one since i found it amusing to be antagonistic when the previous comments were just normal opinions. They could be hired commenters to hype up the idol actor since you said they only come around when there is a new drama.

    4
    1

See, I think Cha Eun-woo is plenty successful enough that no one on his team needs to hire people to write comments for him at this point (especially on Dramabeans.com). I think it’s much more likely that they are fans who get all hyped up when he has a drama and go around defending oppa’s acting skills!

      4
      1

Ikr! So it boggles the mind why there are ppl going around spamming comments to “defend” their actor’s perfect-ness.

        4
        0

Unlike “rest of the internet” DB is a “safe” place where all opinions are respected and every person can happily talk about their favorite actor.
These random aggressive comments stick out like a sore thumb and do no favors either to themselves or their favorite actors.

    8
    1

Right? Like, no one is going to tear into them if they speak positively about Cha Eun-woo, so they shouldn’t tear into someone who is more critical of him.

If comments veer into the personal I think that’s a totally different thing and deserves being called out, but if someone is just speaking about his acting (and in a non-malicious way) then there should be no issue.

      5

I think of them as the flying monkey squadron. They must spend a lot of time relentlessly searching for mentions of their idols and then policing comment threads and “defending” them whenever there’s an even slightly negative comment. Their main theme is “so-and-so is popular so that proves they’re great,” and for some reason the phrase “cry harder” occurs a lot. As for the CEW fan, I’ve seen the same over time and I suspect it’s only a couple of commenters with a bunch of sock puppets.

I remember several months ago one of them flew in and aggressively, emotionally accused a beanie of *bullying* 🙄 for making a mild and completely accurate statement that a certain actor (not CEW) wasn’t great at kiss scenes. It seems like a bizarre and fruitless way to spend one’s life.

    9
    1

I think you’re exactly right, and it’s so funny to see!

Over on Reddit someone had the nerve to ask about CEW’s acting and if his craft had improved after Island, which they enjoyed him in. The comment was PRAISING him, but because they implied he might not be the best actor in the universe, they got downvoted until more sensible people came along and upvoted them. It was so funny, honestly.

I noticed some of this at the beginning of MLL for Min-hyun, but then they all went away…is that the usual pattern?

        1
        1

I believe so. It tends to die down as the show goes on and people simmer down a bit. It’s honestly usually the worst in news posts about the drama before it even airs!

          2
          0

    🕵️‍♀️

Fun Fact – a person with one comment has posted in the thread thanking the “casting team” (???… don’t ask).

That comment has 3 likes in the thread. Going to the account you can see 1 post and 2 likes … ergo, third like is their own !!!

Okay then quoting @darkcc “Eun-woo-sshi, I’m taking either cash or hotteok.”!!

    🤣 🤣 🤣

LOL. If they are indeed sock puppet accounts, I have a feeling they’re going around liking all of the comments with multiple accounts, too.
