The Umbrella Is Crying
Mostly, umbrellas in drama show protection and care, whether they are there or not, shared, given away, …
Here, the umbrella is given to Ji-han, but the umbrella is crying, because Ji-han is not with A-Jeong. The camera focuses on the middle of Ji-han’s body, and the lines are diagonal to that, just like the umbrella points diagonally downwards, dripping sadly.

It’s a bit like that sad sparkler from last episode, just saying.

Why? … WAE?
Grandpa posing the question we all want the answer to. No, not that answer. An answer that makes sense, please. Can we get a bonus coupon for one sensible answer? Apparently not.

    Letter of indulgence
This man is just can’t get himself to actually say “I’m sorry”. Then again, buying expensive documents of indulgence is a very traditional way of having your sins forgiven – It was a growing trend in Europe from 1000 to around 1500: “As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory springs!”
But the exchange of a lot of money (or maybe the post as a chairman?) to another grown-up as atonement for the harm done to a child – it’s just absurd, tragicomic, … I laughed in shock. No, it’s hilarious.

    Sister in White
The effective sister who brought herself in position to take over the company and managed to get the information she wanted, and is also effective in making ammense for a crime she cannot talk to anyone about. Her own crime has been the hateful condescenscion toward the boys, I guess, because she certainly didn’t cause the accident that killed their mum.
Anyway, apart from doing charity work now, she is wearing white, which may be, as I read online, a sign of humility. Anyone wanting to comment on that white shirt, please do!

I couldn’t help associating to this novel – this is actually a back-translation from Danish, since the original is “Nurse in white”. But sisters used to be another term for nurse, in Denmark at least, (Probably from church hospital culture).
    ***
roman Nurse in white, “Søstre i hvidt”. I haven’t read it.

    Marvellously Dressed Evil Sister
I am in sharp opposition to some of the commentors on Viki, I know, but I think this sis is amazingly dressed, and she makes me fantasize about losing half my body weight and walk around like a stick looking fabulous in big, deliberately bulky dresses of original and daring design. So here’s an hommage to that.

Oh, and her stiff hairdo matches the dress wonderfully.

That dress reminded me a little of Diana Spencer’s wedding dress, in that both are stiff yet floofy and made to be seen on TV but odd in real life. I don’t much like the jacket, which folds and wrinkles awkwardly around the joints in her upper body, but the fabric is wonderful and works well with the cut of the skirt. See how it folds out like a fan when she bends over?

We will never agree about her hair. 😁

    Plastered Pendulum
This was a bit funny, Ji-han being thrown back and forth between FL and SFL, both not wanting that responsibility.
In my disappointment at how the Noble Idiocy went on far beyond any reason, and that my idea of an original approach to the trope was so terribly let down, I can at least take comfort in the fact that there was no pettiness between the two cool women.

Also, can I say I liked the FL very much? Here, she is making fun of the Hungover Hero, and the frustration that they are not together just grows with these obvious declarations of love helt back for no effing reason at all. But apart from the N.I., I like her character.

    Exultant Ex
They didn’t let them be boyfriends and partners already, but clearly, the relationship is mended, and it’s wonderful to see the joyful Expression at hearing that Do-han is getting more couragous, bit by bit.

Do-han is beginning to paint the eyes on his painting, and I suppose it means that he is not afraid of showing his sould.
But between us, those eyes look super frightening … Am I alone in finding those stiff eyes strange and dead in the face of otherwise broad and generous strokes of paint?

I wish Do-han had gotten some sort of love interest or boyfriend by the end, but oh well

He started out with a boyfriend in N.Y., and he went back to N.Y.
I was hoping he would switch back to his Korean Ex, and the show kind of hinted that could happen, but I guess they decided to not go through the hassle of describing all that. Also, this probably wasn’t a show where they would let Do-han actually kiss that beautiful, kind and probably still-having-a-crush-on-Do-han-for inexplicable-reasons Ex or any other man.

I hope he’s still with his NYC boyfriend, but they, like, didn’t communicate at ALL during the series that we saw

I guess having its openly gay (finally) character in a healthy, happy relationship was a bridge too far — let alone any display of romantic affection.

But yes, I, too, had fantasized about a final double wedding. I mean, I don’t think homosexuals can get church married in SK, but there could be vows, and maybe a blessing? In Denmark, until actual church marriage was possible by law, many gays were blessed in church; with a legal contract, a vow, and a blessing, you really have a marriage, even if legally they were supposed to call it three different things.
But you know, that three things can be one is something the Christian church should know, if anyone.

When I first glimpsed the new version of that painting, I thought he’d cut a hole and put a photo of an eye behind it. It’s jarring.

Yes, and I think it’s supposed to feel like we can finally relate to the picture, I mean, faces with no eyes is usually a bit scary, but that eye in that painting is worse.
I once painted an eye on a piece of plastic and wore it as a monocle, and it frightened my girl scout weekend trip peers no end, because it looked realistic but dead. This is like that.

Can we talk about that final scene? Like, what was that? Stop interrupting her work, Ji-han! Where are they running to? Is it really raining? Why does no one seem to care that their actress is ditching filming?

Also that dress reminded me of the dreaded Pnina Tornai style that I hate, so I’m glad it wasn’t her actual wedding dress

      Yes, that was strange.
A comment on Viki spoiled (far too early, grrrr) the webcomic ending, in which she is about to be married to Do-han, before the trio announces that there’s a minor change, and Ji-han steps up to take her hand.
Like their completely unnecessary Noble Idiocy, this ending came out of nowhere for no reason. I can make up context … like Ji-han was part of this as an extra, or that other actor, I am sure you remember the name even if I don’t, is simply “giving her away” as you say, because her dad is … getting more hair, … or … well … but what if they had dropped half the noble idiocy and instead moved the plot along to make an actual wedding happen before the end, and they could hint a liiiiittle more at a relationship between nice Ex and Do-han. (I loved the look his Ex gave him as appreciation of Do-han losing his fear of everything).
