HeartBeat friends, the Angst of Episode 13 Previews is upon us. Let us not be swayed by the mumblings of a catman choking on a furball but focus on what is really important here:

Where is the gold?

Please tuck all your prophecies neatly into the replies, so as not to spoil anything for future HeartBeat lovers.

The correct answer will win the Eye Mask of Omniscience and gloating rights over us mere mortals.

My guess is that it is buried in the garden. My first thought was under the perpetually blooming daffodils, but now I am leaning towards the dead tree.

    8
    2

Old Butler Joo definitely moved it. And he would have moved it in a way that would, indeed, draw Woo-hyeol and In-hae together (She said it seemed like he was bringing them together, and I think that’ll be the case). So, where would the gold be that would accomplish that goal?

Yes, the garden under the daffodils is a good guess.

In his old room/her current room is also a solid choice—there’s lots of space under the floor there because she has to go up some steps to get there.

But I feel like it’s not going to be in the mansion? Why would he have moved it just to another part of the mansion? Who would he be hiding it from? No one should have been able to move Woo-hyeol’s coffin except (I’m assuming) In-hae. Catman said—yeah, I know, unreliable narrator—that a human shouldn’t have been able to open the coffin…but could one get under it?

So, that would leave a vampire. I mean I don’t want to impugn Rose—that man-stealing so-and-so—so I won’t. I believe our trio of vampire outcasts that they’ve no idea. Man-hwi certainly didn’t take it because he’d not been to the basement, and isn’t nearly as smug about it as a gold-thief would be.

    You all still with me?

“Ever heard of Plato? Aristotle? Socrates? MORONS!”

OK. How about we go where Butler Joo would have Woo-hyeol look first. That is, the simplest explanation, then. It’s in the wardrobe, under where Woo-hyeol stores (well, storeD) the scroll depicting Hae-sun’s face.

    9
    1

      1. It took me a hot second to realize that the aspersions being cast upon Rose’s character are due to the metanarrative happening on DB right now, and not in the drama itself 😂
      2. Excellent use of The Princess Bride quoting👍 Somehow, it seems an especially appropriate comparison (twoo wuv!!!!!😍)
      3. Taking the wardrobe idea one step further… is the gold hidden at the tailor’s shop? Is there a clue in his suit??

      6
      4

ya know, the tailor shop had also entered my mind….
but I’ve put my money on those blooming daffodils and that’s where it’ll stay

        3
        0

I mean you think I don’t actually feel personally betrayed by the fanfic nonsense because, you know, that would be immature and silly. But, yes, that was a dig…on y’all. Rose is still a flower, both in name and in deed, and she will remain spotless in my mind until she is swayed by you all demons.

If it were at the tailor’s shop or, for that matter, the butcher’s (which makes more sense to me because of the blood connection), why don’t the jerks who work there know? Could their desire to have the neighborhood REDEVELOPED have something to do with this, because all of the buildings would be razed and Butler Joo needed to protect the gold? But surely that would also have killed Woo-hyeol…

Does that KID know? Who was it who thought the kid looked at In-hae all special when they first met…was it Mindy?

        5
        3

Aristotle would be proud – you’re using cold hard FACTS to build your deductive reasoning… at this point, all I can say is, everyone is suspicious, and most of my ideas don’t hold up to scrutiny. I’m ready to be surprised with the big reveal, show!

          3
          0

I think it was @coffeprince4eva who thought the kid looked *significant* and I did, too – but after the parrot-like amusement park performance, I think he’s just not a very good actor yet (and that’s OK, why should he be?).

          5
          0

Me Me! I said the kid looked at In Hae in a mysterious way! I could be reaching though lol who knows.

          5
          0

They don’t know it yet, but Seon-ha is at risk of becoming second lead in Do-sik and Rose’s story. Cracks knuckles over her typewriter (vintage Remington ofc). Mwah-ha-ha.

Also, I like the clue in the suit idea just for the fun of it!

        4
        2

That was my guess exactly that could the clue be sewn into the suit somehow, but as for WHERE it is, I did wonder if it could be left in a bank vault somewhere, because that’s how modern people roll.

There was mention of his bank account and a black pouch in the will, so not sure if they will come into play later.

But I am also thinking it could be buried near the dead tree, it would be a shame to dig up the daffodils if the gold are indeed under the daffodils lol

        3
        2

I will accept “map to gold sewn into suit/in suit pocket” as an entry.

          3
          0

More than one person can bet on the same horse as it were. We can two people for “map to gold in suit” or “under the floorboard’s of In-hae’s room”.

I’m going with “under the daffodils” cause we must pick one, so “under the dead tree” remains open.

I will write up rules, shall I?

          2
          2

All the good theories are taken (until the next one come along). But here goes:
    – When In-hae was searching for the scroll and fell off the stool just in time for Vampie to catch her…she never did reach all the way back in the cupboard.
    – Where does Hae-sun’s family money come from? Wouldn’t she be an even more delicious villainess if it’s from stolen gold?

But yeah, the butler probably did it. Perhaps he was suspicious of MW lurking around and moved it just in case before his capture.

    5
    1

Ooooh, yes, embarrassingly I didn’t consider how our Vampire Detectives might one day say, “The BUTLER did it!!!” They’re totally gonna say that, aren’t they??? So it’s settled. The butler did it. But WHY he did it is still not clear…he’s clearly a good guy. What could have spurred him to make the change?? I still think it’s going to be the redevelopment. Maybe that’s how Do-sik is also going to get involved on the money side—and maybe Butler Joo knew about his vampire hunter side too.

HEARTBEAT Office Pool Rules: Debate to your hearts content but you must choose only ONE answer or entry. More than one person may “bet” on the same entry.

All entries must be received and finalized by 2pm (your time zone) of the air date for Episode 13 (7 Aug). You have up until then to change your mind but after 2pm 7 Aug, no further entries will be received.

Please make sure that your bet is clear to Margo or she may toss out your entry (so picky that Margo). Margo is the final decider of any things that may need deciding.

Feel free to invite more players. A lovely imaginary Eye Mask of Omniscience is on the line!

And then we will all watch with baited breath to see if the answer is revealed in episode 13 or 14.

Finally, always remember: You may already be a winner!

    Righty-ho!

This is where things currently stand with the HEARTBEAT office pool. I have likely muddled things up so choose ONLY ONE and clarify your entry by 2pm Aug 7 please:

@Elinor: Under the floorboards in Inhae’s attic room or Map to gold in the suit
@fancypants: Buried in the garden under the daffodils
@HopefulRomantic: In the tailor’s shop or Hidden in the old furniture of the house
@attiton: That kid has it or ???
    @indyfan: Hae-won’s family vault
@PikPokPikPok: Map to gold in the suit

I feel handicapped by the timezone. Before I even had my morning coffee, y’all had taken the good picks! But since this is relatively low stakes (hearts have been threatened to be ripped out! lives traded for another) I shall let it pass.

      2
      2

No No…all good, see in the rules:

More than one person may “bet” on the same entry.

        Join in, @indyfan!

My friend, I have you down for “hae-won’s family vault”.

Let me know if you want to change. Still plenty of time.

        1

I’m good being the dark horse now! Imagine the reaction if it’s true. She might reach OG Cruella level villainy.

This has been fun. 😀 🙏

I love how I’m the one you’re confused about :). Mine was the one at the end of my very long comment, all else is discussion:

It’s in the wardrobe, under where Woo-hyeol stores (well, storeD) the scroll depicting Hae-sun’s face.

      1
      1

When Dong Seob and Sang Hae were packing their stuff to move into the mansion, Rose asked why they always carried around so many useless things. So, the gold bars are probably mixed with those boxes and Sang Hae forgot about it after he moved them from the mansion to safeguard it.

I think it’s in that den that Man Hwi has with his live ‘food’. I didn’t see the trailer.

    @coffeprince4eva: In Man-hwi’s blood dungeon

Unless you are in Hawaii, y’all will likely hit 2pm Monday way before me, so still plenty of time to get your entry in. Thanks for playing!

My favorite part of the characterization of our Left Vampire here (Lee Sang-hae) was in the early episodes when he’d say, “Should I say this? [dramatic pause] I don’t know…하나…둘…셋…yes, I should.”

I wish he’d say that some more.

    4
    2

Also, I’m so proud of you, @fancypants. Condescending? Maybe. Honest? Absolutely. Welcome to the Fan Wall, my friend.

ep 13 angst is a kdrama given, yes?
but a cannae do it…like red wine sangria, I overindulged as a young person and can not do it no more.

      3
      1

Yes, it is a given. We will get through it together with fan service photo shoots containing Do-sik’s powerful hands. It’s going to be OK.

        2

I mean here, speaking of fan service, as a gift—in case you hadn’t seen it? I mean, probably you had, but still probably worth duplicating:

It might help with the Episode 13 blues. If not that, then this will:

yea, the reply thing is next level….

Same command. You still type it in manually. Replace all square brackets with angle brackets, but do this:

            [img src=”https://i.imgur.com/WdWPgDq.gif” /], for example.

Make sure your quotation marks are straight up and down and not slanted (you can copy and paste the ones there, or use a plain text editor). Sometimes this site is pickAY about such things.

I have the best of luck using the actual image file ending in “gif” or “jpg” or “png” or whatever, but I know that @darkcc can get Tenor gifs to work which I never have. Those are just URLs, in my experience. Maybe Cecee’ll jump in with tips if they have time…

Cecee, do you know Margo? Margo, do you know Cecee? Virtual intro! You two are both rad.

I note that the stupid HTML parser on this site changed my quotation marks to the slanty ones…which is WHY on the main fan wall page everyone gets “escape slashes” before their goddamned quotation marks. I ran websites in the dark ages, so I know why this happens, and have empathy. But PLEASE Please 제발…it can be fixed. It CAN be fixed.

Ack! You buried it again. Is this my punishment? You can’t have your T-shirt back. I’ve taken off the tags. Spilled some wine, red ofc, on it.

@darkcc answered in another post: https://www.dramabeans.com/activity/p/1433224/#acomment-1433505

I’ll paste it here too for reference:

When I use a gif I write my comment in Google doc & copy paste it (with the mouse, non the keyboard) into DB to check the code.

I tend to select tenor gifs. I use the image address (not the URL of the page were the gif appears). This works like a charm every time!

The HTML code for it is pretty straightforward:

(img src= address of the gif)

But replace ( with angle brackets, <. No need for quotation marks.

When I use tenor gifs and this line of code, the gifs always play by themselves. @attiton uses a different approach that is just as effective. So it seems there is more than way to get gifs to work.

Yes, sorry, I spotted you mentioned me here and then i got the same question again from @claire2009 😁

            0

@Seon-ha @darkcc (I have no idea why I couldn’t mention you two, your names didn’t pop up when I typed @) I tried this and it worked like a charm. I’m just wondering, if the sites where the gifs are uploaded crashed, those gifs in out post will be gone, right? I remember years ago I used to upload pics on a site called imageshacks something to use for forum posts. Not sure if that site is still around.

            1
            0

@claire2009 Sometimes that little JavaScript at-mention pop-up isn’t too responsive.

The answer to your question is yes. If the site that hosts the gif at the link you use stops hosting that link for any reason, your gif here will disappear. ‘Tis the law of the internet…que sera, sera.

I use Imgur.com, for what it’s worth, when I’m making my own images.

    @attiton
thank you for your help. this is the gif i am referring to. i didn’t make it myself but picked it up somewheres. file type is gif and its about 3mb … are there size limits ? i just uploaded it using the button, but i do not have the best internet connection. i often do not see notifications until a day later (not a complaint just a statementbon my general environment).

    1

Ah! Well, this is indeed probably “fixable,” @fancypants.

You need to post it using the “img” tag not by using the upload button. So, first thing’s first…you need a URL to the gif itself. Where did you find it? Point me there using links…then we can take it from there, OK?

NBD about a day’s lag! Even if you don’t ever come back to this, I’m sure there will have been a reason 😛
