Coffee Prince: Twelfth Cup

I wish Coffee Prince were a man, so I could marry it. We’d be happy together making beautiful latte art and raising lots of musically inclined children.

Unless……

……*gasp*……

……Coffee Prince is a GIRL?!?!

EPISODE 12 SUMMARY

Eun Chan still comes to work despite being told to quit. She approaches the still-angry Han Gyul, who gives her three minutes to talk. After that, she’d better leave because she’s fired.

Eun Chan: “In the beginning, I never thought you’d like someone like me. It seemed like you liked Yu Ju. She’s so beautiful that I can’t compare with her, so I thought I was better off being seen as a man. When I asked how you would feel if I were a woman, you said you weren’t going to date around anymore, that you’d marry a nice woman from a nice background, someone your grandmother and mother approved of. I’m not womanly or pretty, but if we were sworn brothers, I could be with you all the time. When we goofed around, and you treated me so well… I liked it so much I couldn’t tell you the truth.”
Han Gyul: “I really hate this. Why am I always betrayed by loved ones? Why didn’t my father tell me about my birth mother? Why couldn’t you tell me the truth? I thought about it so much my head felt like it would burst — it was because you couldn’t trust me. My father and you both. And I loved you so much. But you couldn’t trust me.”
Eun Chan: “It’s not that I couldn’t trust you, I couldn’t trust myself.”

Han Gyul: “When I said I liked you even as a man, I didn’t care what the world would think of me, disregarding my friends, family. I went through a lot of pain getting to the point where I decided those things didn’t matter. Go Eun Chan, I need someone who trusts me. Even if everyone else curses at me for being useless, I needed someone who’d believe: ‘Choi Han Gyul just didn’t have the opportunity to show himself. He’s a guy who does what he puts his mind to. He’s just someone who hasn’t yet found what he wants to do in life, but he truly can accomplish what he sets out to do.’ I needed someone to have that kind of faith in me. Not like you, who deceived me even in love, worrying over being found out.”
Eun Chan: “I didn’t have the confidence. I didn’t want that to happen… I wanted to tell you, but I was afraid you’d wouldn’t see me anymore. But the reason I’m telling you this now… is because I want you to see me as a woman. If you hate me, I can’t do anything about it, but I’m so sorry, and I know I was so wrong… But I like you. I love you. If you tell me to quit, I will. If you don’t want to see me… couldn’t you still see me anyway?”
Han Gyul: “I don’t have the confidence to continue. I don’t know who you are. The Go Eun Chan I knew was always honest with me, who trusted and liked everyone, facing the world just as he was. I wanted to be like him. But you… You aren’t the Go Eun Chan I know. Let’s not meet again.”

Phew, way to reduce me to a sniveling mess in the first five minutes.

Han Gyul tells Mr. Hong that Eun Chan will be leaving, and Mr. Hong scolds him for his behavior. Yes, he gets that Han Gyul went through a harder time than Eun Chan, but why is he so angry? She’s a girl, and they like each other — that’s a cause for celebration. Mr. Hong can’t stand working there like this, so he leaves. Ha Rim tries to convince him to stay, and Han Gyul tells him he’ll be gone in a month anyway. Mr. Hong says, “Fine, then I guess I’ll be back in a month,” and walks out.

Eun Chan packs her things and leaves. Han Gyul watches her go.

Han Gyul has no desire to talk to his cousin, but Han Sung calls and says all he has to do is listen. He explains that he first met Eun Chan when she delivered milk to his house, and yes, she was the girl he took to Yu Ju’s exhibit.

Han Sung: “That day, she was really beautiful. But by the time I started to see her in that way, she already had feelings for you. She cried as she told me how much she liked you.”
Han Gyul: “This is annoying. How long do I have to listen to you?”
Han Sung: “She wanted to tell you, but she had no confidence in herself, because she felt like she wasn’t a woman or a man. She sobbed her heart out. I’ll be honest with you. I was swayed toward her. But since she liked you, I decided to just be friends. I’m not even sure why I wavered. That’s really all there was. The fact that Eun Chan told you the truth even at this late point is because she has faith in you.”

Yu Ju apologizes for not telling Han Gyul about Eun Chan, and explains that she’s leaving. Han Gyul asks if it’s because of Eun Chan. Was the relationship between Han Sung and Eun Chan serious enough to drive Yu Ju away? Yu Ju explains: “Their relationship wasn’t a matter of how far they went. It’s just that Han Sung’s feelings swayed toward her, and even then it was just a short while. So forgive Eun Chan.”

Han Gyul asks why she’s leaving, and she answers they’ve got a lot of issues between them. Yu Ju was always the one depending on Han Sung, and he was the one to comfort and accept her. She’d thought his anger was something exclusive to her (born of love): “But I realized that’s not true. I know I’m not being mature about this, and I can’t be cool either. I’m really horrible, I know. But my feelings don’t listen.”

Han Gyul wonders how Han Sung felt, knowing how he liked Yu Ju all this while, and concludes that Han Sung didn’t worry about losing Yu Ju to his cousin because he trusted her — so much that he waited for her even after she left for another man. Yu Ju: “Then you don’t have faith in Eun Chan.”

Han Gyul says he’d always felt that Yu Ju and Han Sung were so rock-solid that he never had a shot of squeezing himself in between them. For Han Sung’s sake, he asks her not to go: “If you do, I think I’d hate you.”

Eun Chan and Han Gyul spend the next several days moping. Han Gyul recalls Eun Chan’s words from the first scene, and also thinks of Mr. Hong’s words: “Ask yourself carefully if you can live without Go Eun Chan.”

Han Sung drives Yu Ju to the airport, and tries to convince her one last time not to go. Their argument spills over onto the sidewalk when Yu Ju tells him to pull over. Han Sung yells: “You strayed too. Why is it okay for you, but not for me?!” He put up with so much — he knew she was lying about DK even before they broke up — but he forgave her.

Yu Ju counters — if he’d been so accepting all this time, why is it now that he faltered? She watched him lie to her face when he said Eun Chan was merely a cute little kid. Han Sung admits that he made a mistake, but it wasn’t love. Yu Ju can’t tell the difference.

As she turns and walks off, Han Sung begs her not to leave, shouting after her, “Don’t go. Don’t go!”

[Side note: The scene was okaaay, but felt a little... acted. Usually this series does amazing things with letting scenes breathe (like in Episode 7 when Yu Ju waited all day in Han Sung's house, and Han Gyul dealt with the aftermath of his fight with Eun Chan), but this felt suffocated. The emotions seemed prepared, not in-the-moment (which is what I loved about their fights in Episode 11). And perhaps a little overacted. Okay, criticism over.]

At the airport, Yu Ju finds DK waiting for her — but stays at a distance. They have a wordless exchange — and, realizing Yu Ju’s not leaving, DK goes alone with a rueful wave. Han Sung races to the airport to find her, but he’s too late, and thinks that she’s already gone.

Now jobless, Eun Chan keeps herself occupied peeling chestnuts and sewing doll eyes. Taking a break to go to the convenience store, she runs into Han Sung, who can tell she hasn’t been doing so well.

Han Sung: “It’s because he likes you so much. That’s why he’s so angry. Although he doesn’t look like it, he’s someone with deep affections, and once he gives you his heart, he gives it all. So just wait a little.”

Han Sung assures her Han Gyul will understand, but tells her not to tell Han Gyul about their kiss — because he’s found that when you tell someone something to ease your own guilty conscience, sometimes it only brings the other person pain. She thanks him and tells him again that he’s like Santa, and Han Sung responds,

“I’m the one who should be thankful, for being able to be Santa to you. So even if it’s difficult, be strong. Han Gyul has really fallen for you.”

At the cafe, Han Gyul is confronted on all sides with appeals to forgive Eun Chan. No matter how mean Ha Rim was to Eun Chan, when talking to Han Gyul, he plays the part of pacifier, asking to hire her back. Min Yub has heard from Eun Sae how poorly Eun Chan is doing these days, eating badly, not sleeping well. Sun Ki tells him, “The way I see it, it was really hard on her too. She’s young. And don’t you think she was afraid things would end up like this?”

Han Gyul goes to see his cousin. At first, the mood is strained, as Han Sung asks Han Gyul to forgive him for having feelings for Eun Chan: “If you really don’t want me to see her anymore, I won’t. I’ll do my best so that we don’t even happen to meet by chance.”

Han Gyul apologizes for hitting him, for overreacting to learning the truth about Eun Chan, and also for passing off his feelings for Yu Ju as mere friendship. He invites Han Sung to hit him if it’ll make him feel better.

Han Sung informs him of Yu Ju’s departure: “But don’t worry too much about us. Yu Ju and I have ten years of history. There’s something between us that you wouldn’t even be able to imagine. We won’t just end like this.”

Han Gyul: “Yu Ju really loves you. She’ll come back to you. It was a really good thing it was you that she loved. If it were anyone else, I’d have stolen her away. I held back because it was you. I like you a whole lot more than you think I do, you know.”

(Aww for brotherly love! These cockles, they are warmed.)

(Somebody needs to give the writer a raise, because I love this next sequence like you wouldn’t believe. I love it so much it makes me sad I didn’t write it.)

That night, Han Gyul goes to Eun Chan’s home, looking up at her window. After staying there for a while, he drives away.

At the same time, Eun Chan waits outside Han Gyul’s apartment. It’s getting late, so she starts wheeling her bicycle away, unaware that her burlap sack is leaking chestnuts.

When Han Gyul arrives home, he finds the chesnuts on the ground, leading him like a trail of breadcrumbs. He follows the trail, and starts to pick them up, just as Eun Chan discovers the torn bag and starts collecting the chestnuts from her end.

And thus they meet in the middle.

Sitting side by side on a park bench, they remain silent for a while as they try to decide how to handle this. But Han Gyul’s anger has been slowly subsiding over the course of the episode, and he tells her to come to work tomorrow.

“I’m still angry, I still feel resentful and I can’t completely understand… And so, I asked myself if I could live without Go Eun Chan. Could I separate from her like this? And it turns out I can’t.”

He sees her tearing up and chides her for crying so much: “From now on, you’d better only cry in front of me. Don’t you dare cry like this in front of other men, or you’re dead.” He reaches over and wipes the tears from her eyes.

Eun Chan apologizes again:

“When we played around, when I acted as your dongsaeng, that must’ve been so awful for you. I only tried to keep myself from being hurt, and looked for a place to run away. I didn’t understand how you felt when you made me those toys, how much you were hurting. When you said let’s go as far as we could, I was just happy, and didn’t even think of your struggles. I’m sorry.”

Han Gyul apologizes too:

“When I kissed you at the cafe and said it meant nothing, I did that to hurt you. It was because I was angry — but I absolutely didn’t mean it. I’m immature for not thinking of how hard it was on you. I’m sorry. I apologize. Forgive me.”

Eun Chan tells him it was her mistake from the start, so it’s okay.

Han Gyul rests his head on her shoulder, saying:

“Go Eun Chan… I’m glad you’re a girl.”

Eun Chan quickly turns her head to kiss him, and they stay like that, together in silence.

The next day, Eun Chan’s back at the cafe, and Ha Rim, for all his bluster and aggravation, is genuinely happy to see her back. When Han Gyul arrives, they all watch with bated breath, not quite sure of the situation.

Han Gyul pretends to ignore Eun Chan, although he steals looks at her while the others are too busy speculating over the status of the relationship. They ask Eun Chan if something happened the night before to cause the change, and with a shy smile, she nods. The Princes whoop in glee.

They accost her for details, and Ha Rim jokes that they should use her phone to send Han Gyul lovey-dovey text messages. Ha Rim says they don’t even need her phone since they can send it with his, and starts typing a message. Eun Chan stops them — and hands over her phone: “Send it with mine.”

The Princes watch Han Gyul receive the message, which reads: “Thank you ♥.” He smiles (and the Princes are thrilled).

After going on their coffee bean deliveries, Han Gyul and Eun Chan enjoy a walk through the park, and Han Gyul is adorably playful. As he walks hand in hand with Eun Chan down the street, he excitedly turns to strangers to tell them, “She’s a girl. She’s a girl. A girl!”

Han Gyul: “See, you should’ve told the truth from the start, so we could’ve held hands like this.”
Eun Chan: “I really didn’t know you liked me.”
Han Gyul: “Are you kidding me? I even went to the hospital because of you. Are you a dummy?”
Eun Chan: “Hospital? I thought you just saw me as a cute younger brother. And I had nothing to assure me you’d like a girl like me.”

She tells him when she first saw him, she thought he was incredibly good-looking. He’s pleased to hear it, until she clarifies that their first meeting wasn’t at the purse-snatching, but when she delivered food to his apartment. Han Gyul exhibits a belated sense of modesty.

Han Sung finds out about Yu Ju not going to New York from DK: “I thought work was the most important thing to her, but it seems there’s something you have that’s more important.”

Worried, Han Sung tells Han Gyul that he hasn’t been able to locate her. Far from being angry, Han Sung realizes he didn’t know as much about her as he should have: “I don’t know where her mother’s house is, or have phone numbers of her close friends.”

Later that night, Eun Chan and Han Gyul talk on the phone, and he wonders why she’s so interested in Han Sung’s business. He tells her Han Sung had liked her — and she, remembering Han Sung’s caution, pretends not to know: “No, that can’t be.” He asks if she’d had feelings for him, and she admits that at first, she did like Han Sung, but then she started liking Han Gyul more.

Han Gyul pretends to be miffed, asking why she picked him over his cousin, who’s nicer and warmer: “Be honest. You like both of us, right?” Eun Chan takes his teasing for real and insists, “Han Sung is just a nice ajusshi, and you — I don’t really know the reason, but I just… like you.”

Han Gyul enjoys her reaction while carrying on his mock indignation, telling her he’s still upset: “My anger just won’t go away.” Left with nothing else to say, Eun Chan says, almost defiantly: “I love you. I love you! I really love you!”

That catches Han Gyul totally off guard, and in an instant, he goes from playfully happy to completely stunned. His legs give out and he sinks down on the couch, catching his breath. (The song is “Coffee Is” by Cloud Cuckoo Land”.)

He covers, accusing her (in bluster) of playing with words and being a smooth talker:

“Hey, you jerk! You could’ve said so openly, comfortably, and we could’ve been insanely happy together. Why didn’t you tell me, and put me through all that suffering? Bad Go Eun Chan! You punk!”

Eun Chan smiles in relief, and then he tells her sternly, gruffly:

“Listen to me carefully. I love you more.”

Both are stunned at their mutual admissions — you can almost feel their visceral reactions to their words — and then, overcome with giddy happiness. Eun Chan jumps around her room, yelling, “He says he loves me! He loves me!”

i wonder what will happen next. i just hope they’ll have more happy and funny scenes before the sad ones again. =p

  19. i adore the new gorgeous banner!

im wondering what the next 4 [or has it really been extended to 8] more episodes are going to be about. why can’t this cute love just go on forever?~

i especially loved the princes in this episode, like when they discuss their inappropriately revealing moments with eun chan. ha rims crazy little monologue cracked me up. :) ))

  20. Thanks for the wonderful summary, Javabeans! You’re an angel.

I find myself irritated with Yu Ju’s double-standards though. She cheated on Han Sung with DK and expected him to take her back. But when HS wavered just a little over Eun Chan, she gave no quarter. YJ and HS should split for good, like in the novel. :)

  21. SQUEEEEEE!!!!! I am seriously grinning like a freak right now. That was so sweet.

  22. i’m in LOVE…i’m in LOVE… hehe

  23. Awww – so many kawaii moments …… I loved the chestnut scene soooo much and the Princes were hilarious. Thank you for giving me a much better idea of what’s going on/being said as I am completely Korean-deficient! LOL! ^-^

  24. Ah seems like the ending~
I wonder whats in store for them both. They have overcome one of the biggest obstacle and now…. gaaaah, why MBC didnt show the 13th cup preview?! dang! At least it will not spoil the lovely feeling we have right now.
    As always, thank you javabeans^^

  25. oh man… my heart is racing. this is the best show ever. by far my biggest obsession.

and i cried after that first conversation too…

  26. THank you for the wonderful recap.. I was waiting desperately for it.. Yeah the drama is turning out to be very good (and not in a draggy way).. Everything seems to be just right.. Like a perfect food dish, with just the right amount of ingredients.. I wonder what will happen next (other than the family and HS and YJ issue)..

PS: Can anyone tell me which song was playing during the chestnut picking scene..

  27. YES! I’ve been waiting for this all day! well for 4 hours since I woke up… but it feels like ages. Mad Props to you, for consistently writing Coffee Prince summaries.

THANK YOU!! Now I can’t wait to dl the ep.

  28. i feel that the drama has climaxed and has had some sort of resolve…there was no preview for the next episode, and i know that the drama is at least supposed to go up to 16 and supposedly extended to 18 episodes

i just wonder where they will go in the next 4 to 6 episodes, because this episode has already almost reached where the book ended, when it comes to the relationship between eun chan and han gyul. maybe how han sung and yu ju resolve things? maybe the kiss that han sung told eun chan not to tell han gyul may anger han gyul? i mean i like the fact they had no preview to keep the people interested, but i just dont see how much further they can stretch the story, now that han gyul and eun chan are a couple. well hopefully i will be pleasantly surprised and not massively disappointed at how this drama ends.

  29. just simply awesome this episode!!!!!!1Thanks Sarah!Gal, you make my day!

  30. Oh dear God.
What a wonderful episode. I love the trail of chestnuts. Seriously, I am squeeing in glee. Btw, great choice of screencap (main page, before the cut). Makes me want to just hug Han Gyul. Also, there’s a tiny part of me that’s still holding out for Han Sung-Eun Chan. *sigh*

  31. even though at times it felt like they were just packing everything in.. this episodes was really good, specially the Han Gyul and Eun Chan moments.

    thank you.

  32. aww, a made up episode from such a pain they had before . really sweet made up… but things are ok now, something juicy will happen..or maybe bad thing (who knows! today ep had no preview , so the cliffhanger is still there(or here) hehe ^_^

thank u so much Javabeans :)

  33. Oh, I was so hoping it wasn’t going to be angst and tears and moping from here on out – the same turn so many k-dramas suddenly make. I’m SO GLAD HK & EC are back to the same playful-sparring-chemistry but with a different twist – she’s a woman now!

“I wish Coffee Prince were a man, so I could marry it.” What a crack-up opening line!
    Thanks again, javabeans.

  34. I like it when you provide song in every post. I used to read it and play the song together.. it feels really nice and good!! Thank you for your summary .. i really love this episode. i can watch it million times!

  35. i just wanna say thank u so much…..i enjoy reading it more then watching it, cause of all the inside stuff u put in…..keep up the good work

  36. Thanks, Javabeans!!!

As much as I love CP, I almost wish they’d end it here. It was perfect. (Even more so b/c of your eloquent summary) I feel like they’re gonna go through a really bumpy patch and as close to reality as that’d be, I dread it.

6 more, people. Sigh. What to do.

P.S. I love that screencap where HK covers his bits. So cute! I’m gonna go reread the whole summary for kicks!

  37. Wow, I love how this drama keeps things going, instead of DRAGGING like crazy like typical dramas do. But I’m a bit scared for episodes 13-16 because SO much can happen between them. It’ll be interesting to see where it’ll go, but MAN this episode was SO good. I was literally squealing as I was watching it. The chesnut scene was SO good. haha I want to see Han Gyul and Eun Chan get married and have lots of babies…..

  38. oh i absolutely love coffee prince! han gyul and eun chan are so sweet! hoping for more of these heartwarming moments to come in the next 4 (or 6?) episodes ^^

i’m in agony right now because i can’t download or watch the episodes online since my internet connection got throttled back to 56kps. so thank you so so SO much javabeans, you write so eloquently and describe the scenes so well it’s like i’m watching the actual drama!

  39. Thaknk You soooo much for the summary!!!
I cant wait every week to read your blog!!

  40. First, thank you so much javabeans for another wonderful summary. I read your summaries over and over again, never getting tired of it.

This episode brought me back to my highschool days, watching this episode brought me back to the feelings of first love, first kiss and those times when I would feel really giddy just by talking on the phone.

**possible spoiler** (dont read if you dont want to)
I am not sure if this is true, rumour has it that there will be a Hotel scene between EC and HK in eopisode 13. I wonder if it’s true.

  41. ….for me this is the best episode so far aside from episode 10 of course ha ha — i love the chesnut part especially when he smiled and realized that the chestnuts are probably from eun chan — WOW! one hell of a twist! the writer’s imagination was awesome!!! good thing i was able to watch it on-line last night eventhough i have to refresh it everynow and then coz my connection through MBC drops all the time and i don’t see any uploads yet of episode 12 anywhere even at VEOH… i trully love this drama! YEH and GY looks really good together! thanks again javabeans and i love your new header — the coffee prince header… Have a great week ahead! Till next monday!

  42. THANK YOU, JAVABEANS!!!!

just finished reading your summary…this drama has taken me through all sorts of emotions since i started watching it…it went from a totally heartbreaking 11th episode( which really disturbed me so much so that i only had less than 3 hours of sleep this am ) to a 360 degree turn of making me giddy and silly with hapiness. I was so sad watching the first part of the episode that i was crying from frustration but then it was replaced by elation. GY is really a versatile actor…he has the ability to convey different emotions using just facial expressions but he can carry acting silly as well…i love the part where he was getting weak in the knee as well as his silly expression laying on the couch after he hangs up the phone…it was so funny..hahahaha…Im glad that they did not show any preview for next week’s episode because i dont want to let go of this happiness that i am feeling right now…this is more than enough to tide me over til next week

  43. once more, thank you so much for posting this so quickly!

i really loved this episode, i guess my only concern is that the drama has 4 more episodes to go and im not sure where they will take this story since EC and HG are pretty much a couple now. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens next week.

i especially loved the chestnut scene, there was something about it that just made me really happy. I guess it might of been just seeing how even though HG is so hurt he admits he cant live without EC, theres just something about it that makes me all warm inside.
and the end, what can i say about that…only that it made me really happy!

  44. Thank You! Now I have to wait until next week! Soooo sweet! I also love the book ending.

  45. ohh yesss!!! episode 12, as usual i’ve been refreshing your page since this morning as if i didn’t know that they just televised it in korea this 5:55am (my time).
wow… really javabeans you never ceased to amaze me on how fast you can make your summary and i really really enjoy reading your piece. well about episode 12, it’s a cute episode so much different from yesterday’s tear jerker i almost feel like a teen ager once more hehe. actually i’ve watched the raw prior to reading your summary & as usual i only understand a bit but their actions speak louder than words but your summary is the best especially for us who’s so addicted to CP who don’t mind watching without sub just to follow through with the series. THANKS A LOT JAVABEANS.
See you next week for CP 13th & 14th cups…….take care & God bless you!

  46. “Unless……

    ……*gasp*……

    ……Coffee Prince is a GIRL?!?!”

Lol… according to the drama, even if CP is a girl, you can still love and try to marry it, no?

  47. Sorry if this kills everyone’s happy mood, but I can’t be worried about what will happen in the future. The rest is probably going to go into Han Gyul’s family problems and the kiss Eun Chan didn’t tell Han Gyul about. I’m scared, but they’ll be together in the end anyways!

  48. Thanks so much for the recap java! We always enjoy it! By the way, is it really 16 or 18 episodes??? Can’t wait!!! ^__^

  49. Anon 46, but what about our beautiful, music-loving BABIES?!?!

  50. Thank you Dear Javabeans
12 cup is really beautiful, indeed simply and beautiful, but because this drama has a politic that it says “Don’t trust on your eyes and your feelings (one ep sad, one ep happy)” I’m afraid of what’s that going to happen in the next episodes. Now the storm calms down but what is happen in the future?…. this is the problem…..(if the relation between EC and HS is that critical point?)
    Thank you again daer javabaeans.

  51. A post on soompi was a Korean news article which stated that Coffee Prince was extended to 17 episodes and that the 18th episode will be “making of CP” or something like that.

  52. I’m so in love with coffee prince now……..

  53. Eun Chan jumps around her room, yelling, “He says he loves me! He loves me!”
    —–
Everyone else, yells, “We love you, Javabeans!”

    hehehe… :)

  54. I think sooner or later, Han Gyul will find out that his cousin kissed Go Eun Chan. LOL. I can’t imagine what’ll be his reaction. Wonder what will happen in the next few episodes. And I hope Sun Ki will find “his woman” soon. Anyways, thanks so much, Javabeans! Oh, and I also do love you Coffee Prince banner. Love it! I already can’t wait ’till next week!!

  55. Thanks for this, I’ve been waiting eagerly for it!
Sigh I can’t believe they’ve done it again – resolved a messy situation believably (I’m talking about Han Gyul and Eun Chan’s situation – I skimmed over the Han Sung-Yu Ju part, not only because err there were more important things at hand but also because it wasn’t very engaging, somehow? Also, on a more shallow note – DK really cannot stand up to comparison to Han Sung. Sure, he’s just a minor character, but I think he’d be more believable in performing his function if we were shown what exactly drew her to him in the first place. Then even if he were not hot [as it is] maybe we’d be able to sympathise better with him)

Anyway I really love the brusqueness with which Han Gyul still treats Eun Chan. Because of the girly-girlness of K-drama girls, I was so afraid that even if they did end up together, they’d lose the brotherliness of their relationship because she’d be treated as a girl. But here it works so well because Eun Chan never started out pretending she was a girl, that’s just the way it is – so he doesn’t treat her any different. In fact, I think that if he hadn’t found out she was a girl, and we continue in a parallel universe from his ‘let’s take it as far as it’ll go’, he’d still be treating her like this, except without the giddy exuberance of knowing he can hold her hand openly, and telling others she’s a girl. I remember in an episode long ago when she nearly got into an accident in front of the store his reaction was to chastise her lack of caution by thwacking the visor down on her helmet – I don’t think they’ve lost this sense of comfortableness with each other because of any unnecessary overprotectiveness on his part. He’s still yelling at her, all is good.

Aaaaah how can there be enough words to express how much I like this show? Everything feels like yeah that’s the way it should be – of course Han Gyul feels hurt and betrayed but I love how they show that nothing is absolute, nothing is in black and white – his feelings of love are still mixed up in the anger, they don’t make him flip-flop from one side to another – at first he’s so angry at her, then the first realisation of his lingering feelings makes him angrier, then he slowly realises how unconstructive he’s being and forgives her, NOT as if nothing had happened but over the course of over half an episode, much advice and many tears and explanations.

And the chestnuts scene, which just epitomises naturalness. How to count the ways of its perfection? 1) It came after both had shown themselves willing to give in by being in each other’s respective turfs 2) It occurred in neutral territory 3) It has a donghwa-like quality, like Hansel and Gretel and yet 4) It was completely unplanned. Neither of them set up an elaborate trail to lure the other, nor did the coffee princes set them up at either end of the trap. I mean ohgod how many times have we seen the laying-trail-of-roses scenes in kdramas? This is like the sweetest remake of it – neither starts out with expectations of what would meet them at the end (or in the middle, as it were) when they first started picking them up for different reasons. Chestnuts are probably about as far from romance as you get, and yet that’s what Coffee Prince does – create romance out of nowhere.

Like Eun Chan’s admission of love which 1) didn’t feature a cliched balladed tears and rain scene 2) wasn’t initiated by a) the guy or b) a particularly romantic situation. It just occurred so naturally and exuberantly – I mean she it’s not even face-to-face, she yells it out, out of a mix of exasperation and an I-just-can’t-contain-it anymore kind of feeling. I love that after the mess seems to have cleared, she hasn’t forgotten everything she’s been through – she makes good on what she says to Eun Sae – I have to tell him I love him, even if I never see him again.

And Han Gyul’s reaction? I could watch it a million times. In fact I probably have. I love the way he slinks sideways into the sofa, as though he’d just died (and gone to heaven). I love how his knees physically weaken, how he clutches his sofa for support, and this doesn’t seem over-the-top. He yells at her again (I seem to be equating shouting for love, don’t mind me) And his shy, brusque loveyouMORE.Bye. Conventional reason states that important admissions should be made face-to-face and yet I think this shows us how it could be better over the phone – unhampered by the close scrutiny of the significant other, it’s the viewer who gets to see the most immediate, honest, unguarded responses. And can anyone not smile back at that grin?

  56. Oh mwy gohd! Very nice! Now I understand what you mean that chestnut scene was fabulouso. Thank you!

  57. still can’t read your wonderful summary and commentary because i need to see the episode (subbed) first. what’s the point of the summary then? oh idk. i just need to watch it first. geez.
but i did read the first part.
i would marry coffee prince whether man or woman (lol, just like in the show)! i’m not sure where that’s legal, but i would find the place, damnit.
but then again.. you called dibs first. hmm.. mistress number 1 i could settle for as well..

Cloud Cuckoo Land – Coffee Is…

    :)

  59. another emotional rollercoaster ride from coffe prince..
we have both sentiments about the acting wise on Yuju and Han sung … it’s like the issue between them was forced… although in the story the have the more history, i felt the way the two characters were presented and played , they were more apart..
but i still like Han Sung.. he’s a great guy… he desereves happiness to you know..

my fav scene in the episode… of course the last part.. everything came so natural… as if it was bound to happen but with a twist of surprise…

but my fave line in the episode… HanGyul saying to strangers:
    “yoja, yoja,,, girl , girl”

kudos to Gong Yoo… amazing acting, adding to the fact he’s a majot hottie.. he knows how to be playful…without being overacting…

YEH’s consistency in portraying Eun chan is A+ for me too…

    like what javabeans said…
i also wished i was a part of the series..even i am the dog …

    see you guys nest week

    javabeans….you rock…

  60. omgggggg that was soooo cute im reading the summery and grining like a retard!!!

  62. I liked the fact that Eun Hye, the lead actress, kept consistent in playing a guyish character throughout. Even in this episode after her sex was revealed, she acted like a guy in her demeanor to be consistent with the character. Even Han Gyul jokes around with her as she’s a guy. My guess is for next few episodes is that parents are going to step in and ask why she is like a guy and they will object. She will start to act more like a woman, though it may not be what the couple wants.

  63. aww…the eppy’s ending is just so saccharine sweet. but if 12th cup is an upper, are we bound to have a doomed 13th? (murphy’s law is working overtime on Coffee Prince). this kdrama is definitely a rollercoaster ride.
quick comment on #49 by javabeans: “Anon 46, but what about our beautiful, music-loving BABIES?!?!”
let’s all do a brangelina and adopt musically-savvy kids from around the world. just kidding!

  64. I am completely in love with this series and its actors. And I couldn’t agree more Acey, how could anyone not smile back at that grin. lol it’s funny, I look forward to your response to javabeans almost as much as I look forward to javabeans summaries because you just bring up so many of the points I love. So, thanks Acey :) and thank you, thank you Javabeans! You are truly completely awesome! I do wonder what they’re gonna do though for the next four episodes since they extended it. I was looking around for previews of episode 13 and found out that they apparently didn’t air it which makes me worried because I feel like that means they’re reshooting and extending scenes, which well, I really like how this entire series has been paced and it would be a complete shame if the last four were just completely dragged out just to extend its air time. However, the writers have been soooo good so far, so I hope they’ll make the finale as good or even better than this series was. :)

  65. omg i get sooo giddy watching the last scene.

  66. OMG! I Love it!!! They’re so sweet…can’t help falling in love in this series…Every episode makes you excited that you can’t wait for the next episode to come out. Thanks Javabeans!!!

  67. You’ll find the rest of the ep here:
    http://vid-master.com/tag/coffee+prince+12

  68. oh my goodness. i understood what was going on when i watched this ep and i was grinning like a maniac. my face muscles were hurting. now reading it, it makes me grin the exact same way…oh my poor face muscles. this series can sure put a smile on a person’s face =^__^=

  69. OMG OMG this ep is so cute !
I can’t stop smilling in front of my computer !! my boss will definetly thinks that i’m crazy but I can’t control my smile and .. even if work is so boring .. i keep my smile in the middle of my face just because à HG and EC .. Ah …. :) :) thanks so much

  70. *sniff *sniff…they really know how to make a person emotional….and i rarerly get emo….wow >.

  71. i couldn’t stop smiling after watching the 12th cup raw and i hadn’t stop smiling after reading your summary javabeans! thank u!
i had this thought that coffee prince should end now when everything is going smooth and happy and i don’t care about the other parts or characters anymore as long as Han Gyul and Eun Chan are together and happy! hehehe. But still i’m curious of what Yu Ju and Han Seung’s going to be i hope she clears her mind already and decide what she really wants. And i hope there would be no more misunderstnding and fighting between HG and EC they should just help the other characters with their lives since they settled theirs….haha
If i get the chance to see or meet every character of coffee prince i’d probably go to Eun Chan first and hug her! haha then Han Gyul next! they should change the name in the end to “Coffee Princess” for future daughter of HG and EC!!!
    thanks again javabeans!

  72. Omg the best of the best ep!!!! Says he loves her!!! Woooahhh… thats soo hawt! Omgar can’t wait, can’t wait! My heart’s gonna burst for anticipation!!!! Thank you sooo much javabeans!!!

  73. Indeed it was a beautiful turnout!!! You can call me sentimental/ romantic fool but I really really love happy endings…it makes my day complete after reading/seeing movies or dramas with good endings. That’s why, Javabeans, many many thanks for your excellent summary/translation, just by reading your works, i sometimes skipped seeing the drama itself.

  74. Oh yes!! You are so right about the writers deserving a raise for that sequence of scenes with the chestnuts. Using a Hansel & Gretel breadcrumb scene as a way for them to meet was absolutely brilliant! As soon as I realized the purpose of the trail of chestnuts, I was literally laughing and jumping for joy. Truly lovely.
(I also had another thought while watching the scene. They walked, crouched down, to pick up the chestnuts. Their movements reminded me of a religious pilgrim doing penance and asking for enlightenment and/or forgiveness … another stupid thought from my brain that I can’t turn off.)
As for YJ, I think she has commitment issues. She certainly didn’t want to take her mother’s call, when her mother said she didn’t have to attend her mother’s wedding. I think there is much that we don’t know about her.
I do hope that they’ll wrap up each Prince’s story by the end of the series.
Looking forward to the rest of the show…

  75. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was watching part by part of the video then flipping back your summary at the same time. It’s a great way to watch and understand even w/o subs. :)
The writer does a very good job! I’m happy now…in fact, I’m okay if the story ended here! *chuckles* But of course, I don’t mind seeing more sweet moments of Eun Chan and Han Kyul!

  76. it is worth the wait! can not control the smiles on my while watching the ” chestnut part” simple approach but sweet impact to the story. bravo to the writers!!

  77. Boy, those K-drama writers really know their stuffs! I’ll just join in the love fest here: That was just so cute (Awww). Yay, they’re finally together. No more angst (at least for this week).

I think there was a stark contrast between Han Gyul/Eun Chan and Han Sung/Yu Ju’s relationships in today’s episode. One couple is giddily basking in their newfound love whereas the other is desperately trying to salvage theirs. Trust and forgiveness were the issues among all four. Yet, we see how determined Han Gyul and Eun Chan were to fight for their love. No matter how hard he tried, Han Sung was not able to convince Yu Ju to let go of her insecurities. I love how much more matured Han Gyul is now compared to the earlier episodes. His decision to forgive Eun Chan is no less significant or hard-earned than his previous admission of love to her. Those lines that he said today …. sigh!

Ha ha, javabeans.. you are officially in love with this series! That’s a sign of a serious infatuation when family is mentioned in the same line as love (LOL). BTW, that title screen cap of Han Gyul waiting in the car is like the most perfect shot ever!

  78. Javabeans you’re the besttttt!! Thanks for the 12th Cup..its getting better and better :)

  79. THanks for this!! Wait wait wait it’s still the 12th episode and they’re already this happy @__@ Argh that’s scary! I feel like something bad will still happen to them there’s still 6 more episodes to go right??

  80. if this episode is the last episode..i think it would be just nice….but then, how are they going to go from here??? i mean for the next 6 episodes when all the excitement/secret has been revealed…i hope it won’t end up draggy…

  81. Thank you so much!! Ahhh! I’m so happy!! :D

  82. MY GOODNESS!! I’m SOO happy! :-) My sister and I were giggling and squealing at the same time in happiness. JAVABEANS Thank you SO much for your translation/summaries. We read them first then watch the RAW and with the actors facial expressions we can follow the story very nicely.

I just love how HG even still angry can’t deny his feelings for EC and though they are happy being able to be open with each other. This is practically their FIRST real relationship. Now will come the matter of HG allowing EC to fully comfort him when problems arise in the future episodes. I loved how all the princes made sure HG never forget how it felt to have EC around. And the chestnut scenes was beautiful because it was the first time that HG had something to smile about. He is so willing to put himself out there. I applaud EC for being frank about her feelings about him regardless of how he would reject her but at least she would not have anything to be regretful for later because she gave it her best.

Some times, we ourselves, keep things from others by being afraid to be hurt. But it’s much worse to keep that little knife slowly turning in our hearts when we could just simply say what is in our hearts and even if things don’t work out we’ve made a clean cut and are able to move on.

HS, my heart goes out to him, I really want to smack YJ though she runs away from everything. I really had hoped that he wouldn’t beg her I wanted him to keep something for himself therefore it looked a little over done his scene.

What are they going to do for the rest of the episodes?
1.HG’s Grandma still has incurable cancer.
2.That MR. Lee guy (HG’s real father) is still a potential problem otherwise they would not have introduced him.
    3.YS’s dissapearance from the map.
4.Sun Ki’s search for his ex.
    5. Ha Rim’s family problems.
6.AND the kiss between HS and EC which could only be revealed by either En SAe or Yu Ju. Pheww!!

I really hope the writers don’t lose the momentum and not lose focus in trying to extend by diluting the last of the episodes.

    That’s my 2 cents. hehe
I’m off to watch another drama 2:00am east

  83. Gosh, i bawled my eyes out and i’m in the office… they might think i’m crazy coz towards the end, i’m smiling and giggling already, hahahahah. I’m so “kilig”… thanks Sarah

  84. Hi Javabeans,

Just checking if you happened to know/have the song that’s in the Episode 12’s chestnut-picking scene? R also enquired about this song early in this discussion thread.

Love that song! Hope you’ll know, thanks! :)

  85. there’s always adoptions~

  86. ohhh man this episode was soooo adorable…I love HG’s playful love declarations! Ya same with some viewers here…I just skim through HS and Yu Ju’s story because it is too dramatic for what it really is (which is Yu Ju overreacting and being selfish.) I hope the last 4-6 episodes won’t drag, but even if it does…I’m sure I’ll still read and watch it! I’ve been trying desperately to get my friends to start watching this but she likes Bad Couple Better?! It’s kinda sad that I want her to enjoy this as much as me but oh wells…she’s missing out!!

Anyways, as always, thank you so much Sarah!! Can’t wait til next week even though these last 2 episodes have been like rollercoasters alrready, I still want these same giddy heart-wrenching scenes til the end!!!

  87. mwaah! thank you! i cant think of any words to say. im speechless….

  88. ahhh…. this one made up for the heartsickness and craziness of the past few episodes. ahhhhh…

“Somebody needs to give the writer a raise, because I love this next sequence like you wouldn’t believe. I love it so much it makes me sad I didn’t write it.”
    heehee. you’re a real writer then. ;P

i am extremely grateful to you, javabeans.

  89. god…I’m going to die….^-^ Reading these summaries makes me almost feel like watching the episodes with playing the added songs, javabeans ^-^
Can’t wait for my weekend and the subs! Haha, and I’m happy to see, that I’m not the only one who’s so crazy about Coffee Prince, since my friends aren’t into drama —-
    You’re great, javabeans!!!

  90. Thank you for this sweet and lovely twelve cup summary. I’m so in love with this drama that my husband thought that I’m having an internet love affair with a guy name Javabeans. The happy feeling that I’ve now just won’t go away……Thank you…thank you…Javabeans.

  91. Dear JavaBeans. If there is a demand…Would you mind if I translated your summaries in Spanish of course giving credit were it’s due??

  92. I am soooo glad the writer didnt drag the storyline. This is one of the reasons why i love this series. It’s not boring and it’s very addicting….just like coffee! Hmmm…I’m gonna watch ep12 again while drinking my coffee. Thank you for the recap javabeans!!!!

  93. Thank you, melanie! I think there’s something particular about Javabeans’ writing that encourages you to think deeper. Without so many likeminded people here on this blog, I doubt so many people would be compelled to savour this drama slowly, layer by layer :)

There are so many things this drama does cleverly that you are less likely to see something in it as a random serendipitous coincidence that happens to work well, rather than a planned, thought out component. I just noticed, when Eun Chan was crying at home, after she sat on the toilet and was surrounded by torn tissue papers – when she was sitting in front of the tv, the screen showed a man in drag. I mean, wow.

Unrelatedly, does anyone else see Han Sung as the music director for this drama itself? My brain makes narrow connections. Heh

  94. acey, i thought the same way too about Han Sung. You said, “Unrelatedly, does anyone else see Han Sung as the music director for this drama itself? My brain makes narrow connections. Heh” LOL. I don’t think that was a narrow connection. :)

  95. wow. thanks for keeping me so in love!

    i love your summaries!

    you are heaven sent javabeans!

  96. i really love CP but gosh, what a perfect ending! WE have 6 more eps to go…What else can happen? What does the writer have in store for us? I just hope that it’s not going to be anything cheesy.

  97. Millions thaaaanxxx to you ^^
you’re soo fast in uploading, i keep on refreshing your page. hehe. wow, the storyline is getting better and better…it’s kinda different from other movie i’ve seen tho. it’s better :)
i think the next problem is how they fight to get together? hehehe…i can’t wait to see the next episodessss >.

  98. omo! Gomawouyo JAVABEANS! youre so awesome! hihi!

i can’t wait for the next episodes! I DON”T LIKE THIS TO END! HUHUHUHU.

  99. The chestnuts scene is just gorgeouslyyyyyyyyy BEAUTIFULLLL and sweeetttttt!!!!!!!!

    Loveeeee ‘emmmmmmmmmmmmmmm……….toooo tooo muchhhhhh……..!!!!!

  100. YIIPPEEE!! Finally! Haih…was holding my breath since episode 10…and thanks 4 all the nice summaries…

  101. Thank you, Javabeans for the incredible summary. I have watched and read the 12th episode side by side just to know exactly what were they talking about but man I tell you doing that was hard ( LOL ). My eyes were going back and forth to both screens. Anyhow, I like the scene were EC was telling HK ” Sarangheyo ” several times as if he was being hit with every ” I Love You ” words that came from EC. That was incredibly cute.

And yeah, finally a series without the ” HAN RIVER” scene since almost all the K-drama series has that scene but still has the running scene at the airport ( but I didn’t mind it though ). Now we have to wonder what will happen next episode… Thank’s again.

  102. This is the first time I’m saying this and this is true..coffee prince is the bestest of the best dramas ever yet!!!This is the only drama that is not like scripted or anything..it’s like it just goes with the flow..I really really love this and I’m so totally addicted to it!!! thanks for the great sumarry..I have not watched it yet but I’m really excited to!!! kumao!! :)

  103. ty oh so very much YOU r my hero!

  104. I have always enjoy reading your summary. Thanks for all your quick and wonderful work. I laugh so loud that my husband thinks I am crazy when HaRim(?) talked about showing EC his tatoo on his butt. HAHAHA!!!

  105. Thank you, javabeans! Like so many others, I, too, await your summaries like a kid waiting for Santa on Christmas (get it? Santa? Cause Santa was mentioned in this episode?! AHAHAHA, I’m so clever- I’m sorry. *stops*)

Wow, there’s so much I wanted to say but it’s all been said, and much more eloquently than I could have said it. I, too, was almost concerned that the show would be less interesting from here on out, but I actually have a lot of faith in the writers now. This is seriously the first drama I have ever seen where I have found EVERY episode interesting. I’m simultaneously looking forward to and dreading the last episode.

Of course, my main draw to it is the relationship between Han-Gyul and Eun-Chan (SOOO GREAT), but I’ve fallen in love with the coffee princes as well. One of my favorite scenes will always be the scene where they’re staring at Han-Gyul as he opens the text message. I really enjoy the friendship they seem to have developed.

OoOooh~! I’m so addicted to Coffee Prince now that I’m really worried I’m just going to start snorting coffee beans and name my kids Cappuccino and Mocha and so on. My family will have to stage an intervention soon and I’ll be like “I DON’T HAVE A PROBLEM! *coffee bean stuck in nostril*”

  106. omg!! i was tooo busy at work to watch this and im SOOO happy for your translations!! SONGS!! pictures!! ^^

    thank you!!!

  107. thanks JAVABEANS!!!

loved this episodes! sad then sweet :) im still grinning from watching last night, gosh, im so tired form lack of sleep but i don’t care.

i’m anticipating that the writers of this series will surprise us again next week :)

    i love COFFEE PRINCE!

  108. forgot to add, i also wasn’t convinced with HS and YJ acting on this ep (HS was shouting too much and YJ has this look of knowing already what HS will do — it just didn’t seem natural to me). oh well, i was so giddy and gooey with HK and EC so i just didn’t care about the other couple hahaha

  109. You’re fantastic!

  110. do you know where i can find summaries of the “I AM SAM” drama? are you by any chance planning on looking into the drama? :) i love your summaries btw…GENIUS!

  111. beautiful. just beautiful.

  112. it’s like being in love again for the first time… like seeing your crush in the hallway… hihihihi!
i love coffee… its like having the first taste of frafuccino… and thinking when can i have it again next…

thanks javabeans.. :) you’ve done great!

  113. I got out of class and found your post!! thank you so much javabeans

although it makes me wonder, if they’re this happy now, what’s going to happen in the next 5 episodes – i get the strangest feeling that we will be shedding more tears before this drama is through

I love the way this couple relationship has progressed. I especially love how the friendships of the cofee princes (and now the princess) have developed along the way and are now at the point that even though HG and EC are together, the boys are happy but still treat EC like one of them

like I keep saying – this was great!!

  114. i cried while reading your summary of the chestnut picking scene. i loveee this drama. and i cant wait for the subs to come out! *_* thankss!

  115. This is such a bittersweet episode (a bit bitter at first, but definitely sweet at the end)! I guess the next few episodes would focus more on Han Gyul and his birth issuee, or possibly how to reveal Eun Chan’s real gender to his family.

Thank you for the summary! =D

  116. Vanessa, you hit the nail’s head. I was wondering what made coffee prince stand-out and worthy of crazy-fanatic-like obsession from the likes of yours truly and many others and your post definitely rang a bell. Coffee prince with its brilliant music, acting and lines was able to bring back those precious memories of giddy first love, the pain, the laughter and the euphoria. I have to admit that there are some scenes i can relate to, in a parallel universe kind of way, since Coffee prince has an out of this world love story! Maybe because Eun-chan’s character contributes to those reminiscing moments since she is so innocent and child-like in this series, come to think of it, Han Kyul has that child-like side of him as well with the toys and his goofy-little-boy smile! Whatever those reasons are and whatever else contributed to the Coffee prince craze, the bottomline is that I just looooooooove this series. Just can’t say it enough! And i love those people who bring coffee prince to us who are from the other side of the world! Thank you so much! I am amazed at the different time zones we all have and the different things we are all busy wiht while watching coffee prince. Coffee prince definitely has that magical power to bring such a diverse audience all together liek this. It would be itneresting to know where each one is from since there are many of us here already. Till next monday you guyz, Charm from the Philippines saying bye bye for now. :)

  123. ahhh! I love this ! thank you thank you thank you… this will be the episode that i will be rewatching again and again….

  124. I got to my office early this morning , I read your summary of the 12th ep. OMG , I’m overwhelm w/ emotion. I’ve been seeing CP ep. w/out eng. subbed so I depends on summary of what had happening . Now , I’m addicted to your column . You’re a great writer, I loves the way you interpreted things . Thank you .

  125. *Squeals* *Squeals* Thank you Javabeans! Can’t wait until this weekend when I have time to download and watch the episodes. I’m SO GLAD that 12th cup ends on a happy note – if it were anything like the angst-filled 11th cup I think I’d be agonizing over it the rest of the week! Even if there are some emotional roller coasters in the upcoming episodes (and I suspect there will be) I’ll have this episode to go back to to cheer me up! *yay* Thank you for describing HG’s reaction to EC’s confession Acey – I’ll certainly be watching that over and over again (just like how I watched HG’s reaction to their hug over and over again… *squeals*)

  126. waaaah….

…i’m so giddy right now… in the words of victoria beckham this episode was “major”….

    woaoh….

but kinda scared to watch 13 next week, cuz with all these good feelings something bad is meant to happen…

  127. thank you so much!!! yay! feeling so happy and so giddy!!!
i love this episode though i haven’t watch it!
i’m waiting for the subs to come out! i don’t want to watch it without subs because it might spoil the fun!!
    thank you again!

  128. gosh, i rewatched this episode again!! (watching while reading your summary)

    it’s just too good!!!!

  129. hi! first time posting here but i’ve been a lurker for quite a long time. ^^ thanks for your hard work in keeping us up to date in almost all the dramas that we are watching. like you i also like the chestnut scene. it’s unique. i love how creative the writers of this drama. i hope that they’ll be able to maintain the kind of writing that’ve started.

thanks again for your tireless effort.

    cheers!
    liezle

  130. 3 things that make me smile at the moments.. the CP drama, javabeans summaries and the comments

  131. o my goodness! this is such a sweet episode! can’t wait for the subs… the screen shots u chose conveyed so much meaning… thanks so much for ur hard work! i love Gong Yoo!!!!! so good-looking ^^

  132. thank u for the summary..u have been amazing…ur an angel..

  133. omg!!!!!!!! dramabeans, u really make my day!!!!!!!! i watched coffee prince 12 on veoh and couldnt understand a word……..im so happy to see what s going on at the end of this ep. but i was desperately searching for ur summary since this morning (my UK time )….haha……..and now im totally satisfied since i really understand this ep………..tks a lot for ur hard working n sharing this w/ us!!!!!!!! im really addicted to ur site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  134. This episode is soooo…. can’t described it made me giddy the whole time I was reading it. I don’t know how long I could hold on I want to see the ending yet don’t want it to end. Ha! the dilemma of a K-drama addict. How many ways and how many times need I say thank you to you for making this very special site?? Just know that we appreciate what you have done and what you are doing. Take care of yourself!!!

  135. I know i said to myself not to watch the episodes without subs!!!!!!!!!! but after reading this cant help myself lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what the heck, i can understand it somehow.
    thanks javabeans!

  136. WoW!! Nice ep.
I really love this ep .
Thank you so much you make me clear about it>.

  137. You are great javabeans! You not only write so well, but you are able to convey and evoke the exact feelings from your readers . . . Great work! Thank you .

  138. every week, i try to stop myself from reading your posts and wait for the subbed version but i can’t help checking your site. Then I see that the new episode recaps are up and without knowing it, I’ve already finished the entire thing… help me javabeans. Can you bann me from your site? I don’t have the self-control to stay away on my own!

  139. LOL xanne! I’m the same way. Usually I try to wait until *after* I watch an episode to read the summaries to avoid spoilers, but I can’t stay away with Coffee Prince. I avoided reading this summary all day, but now look at me…I’ve read the summary and the 138 comments. Oh well, I will enjoy the latest eps all the same. Thanks javabeans!

  140. Acey, i guess that you like this episode as much as ep.11 (can’t really tell since you didn’t post as many comments :) ). How many times did you rewatch the episode? But seriously, your last line was really really good, dude. They executed this episode perfectly. The girl in me was in a mess at the end. I couldn’t think of any more to add about this series that the above 130+ visitors have already said. I just love this show to death.

teokong (#90), you cracked me up with that line cause it was exactly my BF was wondering about for the last month or so… Now, if i can just convince him to watch it with me.

javabeans, thank you once again for letting us in the Coffee Prince madness. It’s quite a party hah, and you’re such a gracious host. See you on Monday for more of the same. **run off with a smile**

  141. Thank you:) Off to watch 12th cup with your summary side by side now!

  142. yah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im sooo happy for them both!!!!!!!!
ahhhh!!!! im about to scream for joy!!!!!
    thanks javabeans!!!!

  143. [Side note: The scene was okaaay, but felt a little… acted. Usually this series does amazing things with letting scenes breathe (like in Episode 7 when Yu Ju waited all day in Han Sung’s house, and Han Gyul dealt with the aftermath of his fight with Eun Chan), but this felt suffocated. The emotions seemed prepared, not in-the-moment (which is what I loved about their fights in Episode 11). And perhaps a little overacted. Okay, criticism over.]

I actually laughed during their arguement cause it felt so overacted and fake, especially his yelling *giggles again*

This episode after the first 10 minutes made me die and go to heaven. God I hope I find my Coffee Prince who isn’t a girl!!!

  144. Kor- Thanks for the links! I have watched the “Thank You” scene 20 times now. I love the “princes” and their reaction!

  145. oh my god!! can’t wait to watch this..

yeah, i was wondering too what will happen on the next episodes..

  146. As much as I love the EC-HG reconcilation, I’m a little worried about what story is left to be told in the upcoming episodes esp. with the extension. I would hate for a beautiful series to be ruined in the end. I know that the minor characters like Sun Ki and Min Gup/Eun Sae as well HS-YH problems have to be fixed but without EC-HG excitement, it just isn’t enough…sigh

  147. thank you so much!!! u just made my day!!!!

  148. Actually, I wish you were a man so that I could marry you. Though, since it’s CP, it really doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or woman right? Fine. Let’s get married. :)

I’ve been silently reading your summaries after watching the episodes and there are times where I think that you should really be a part of the writing staff because your rhetoric just happens to be amazing. And after this summary, I decided that it’s time to speak up. I immensely enjoy reading your summaries as you peel off layer by layer of the drama as if it were an onion. (Shrek anyone?) I watched every episode twice so that I could catch every nuance and line carefully but after reading the summaries, I get an even better insight into the storyline. Haha, okay. I’m officially done being a creep and continuously praising you like crazy. What I really want to say (or write) is that you bring another light to Coffee Prince with your beautifully written summaries. I really appreciate you taking the time out to write about how much you enjoy the drama and sharing it with everyone. Thank you for your lovely summaries. :) _ I look foward to reading more.

  149. I’m just curious. What’s your favourite episode so far ? (:

  150. Wow, i love how they did this episode!

Im just glad now Han Gyul has patched things up with Eun Chan…

    :)

  151. Ha ha. This episode is actually hilarious. The writer was so good though. Hey there are sth I don’t get. What did Sun Ki and Ha Rim talk about in the bathroom????? Did they mention anything about Eun Chan and Han Gyul’s relationship? ;P Thanks for your recap. I really enjoy it……. Love u. Keep up your good job.

  152. wow your writing is sooooooo goooooood. i had tears in my eyes just from reading your translations. the writers of this drama are really gooooooood also. this drama, “Jewel of the Palace”, and “Goong” are my favorite korean dramas so far. also you are right that when their is good acting no need for music or styles camera angles to keep peoples’ attention on the drama. one scene that i found funny was when Han Sung was looking for Yu Ju and he was like he didn’t know much about her, not even, where he mother lives or knowing her closest friends numbers. i was like you know someone for 10 years and you don’t even know where her family lives.lol what did he learn about here all that time…..he is a crazy man, but i thought it was beautiful that he was so worried about her not knowing where she was. i can’t wait for your next translation summary, but i will and thank you for all that hard work. it is really amazing how you can captor the moment of each scene so well. thanks again :D

  153. awwww….the chestnuts scene was cute!!! very creative!!

  154. omgg. where did you get to see this episode? the site i usually go to didnt upload it yet and i’m dying to see what happens, and especially after reading this summary makes me want to watch it moreee. thankyouuu soo much for the summaries you write. you’re so laudable :]

  155. I am a pile of goo from reading this. AAAAAHHH!!! (*squeals like asinine fangirl, flaps hands around goofily by shoulders accordingly*)

Gong Yoo makes me melt as well. just so we all know. He does angry/on the verge of tears/in heartrending agony over love very well, and I’ve seen it in other dramas he’s done, so I can totally picture exactly how 11 and 12 played out.

    :)

I heart you so for these synopsies and for your amicable wit, and clear understanding of that dialogue. woohoo for dual mastery of languages.

  156. I really enjoy the recap but also all the small comments you make throughout the recap!! Fighting!!There’s 2 more weeks left!^-^

  157. you spoil all of us xD xD xD

  158. I agree with you! The chestnut scene was a stroke of genius. I just can’t get enough of it and have repeatedly watched it since it was posted on youtube. The power of the creative mind truly makes us laud writers who can think of infinite possibilities. You’re one of them. Thanks a bunch for the summaries. Also, the incredible chemistry between the leads and their fantastic acting have made me a Coffee Prince addict. Like many, I’m apprehensive about the succeeding episodes. I don’t know how much more my heart can take.

  159. Javabeans, your blog is the flagship company of Coffee Prince No.1 Store.
I love your summaries as well as all the comments that poured in from different part of the world. Hurray to the internet invention! You all are great writers. I check this site daily after reading the summary, just to capture all the happiness in the comments.
I cannot agree more to Acey’s in-depth review of this episode. That chestnut picking scene is so romantic. Yes, the writer should get a raise.
The dialogues throughout the series is very hilarious and lively. I enjoyed how the princes fighting to put a SMS on the phone. MinYun suggested to put two hearts and HaNim said the SMS costs money so one heart is enough. Ha ha. Then EC tugged her phone over and asked them to do it on hers. So cute. Just reminds me how the boys having fun in their highschool’s recess period. This drama series is full of refreshing scenes that rarely found in the Kdramas.
I love your new header. I love coffee, I love tea. I love java java, javabeans !!!

  160. This is the song on Chestnut Picking scene.. I got the WMA version from Soompi but can anyone give me the mp3 version? The song named is May by Belle Epoque

  161. Winnie27 : although it makes me wonder, if they’re this happy now, what’s going to happen in the next 5 episodes – i get the strangest feeling that we will be shedding more tears before this drama is through
Omg, I think that too. Just like Dalja Spring, when they’re together another obstacle comes. I don’t know, maybe one of them is about ‘know or not know Han Sung feeling and kissing stuff’, because Han Gyul actually still has a problem with believing. And after knowing that Eun Chan already know Han Sung’s feeling, it’s a betrayal for him even just a litle. :) Just a thought.
But thanks God, the producer gives us wondervel ‘ending’ so it leaves us a good mood until the next week.
    Thank you javabeans. A lot.

  162. AHA I absolutely adore your introduction to the Twelfth Cup there! I am absolutely in LOVE with the drama Coffee Prince; it’s amazing. Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye’s acting makes the audience want more…the music selection’s brilliant…not the typical Super Junior boy band style…but really relaxing and able to suit the summer feel very well! I must say, this turned out to be wayyyyyyy better than I thought it would be =D…brilliant.

  163. Did you have seen Coffee Prince Intro movie on TV?

  164. And of course, thanks for your summaries =) It’s a nice touch after watching the drama!

  165. Reading the summaries and those really great analytical comments, i can’t help it but think about British Author, which is a class that i had to take during my senior year of high school. what it is is basically taking sections for a particular book or scene and, really, just dissecting it from word to word, like finding symbolism, motif, metaphors, etc, etc. oddly, those were the most happiest days of my life and just reading what Acey and tooizzy (lol) got from those scene makes me think of those British Author days. Thanks for the effort and the constantly great summaries Javabean.

  166. i love this episode, thanks!

  167. ktv @ 151 (I got this from the c-subs – I hope the meaning doesn’t stray very far but I think the gist of it is there):
Harim was talking about how if he’d known earlier that Eun Chan was a girl, he’d've tried to woo her first – he’d naturally found her attractive anyway. Sunki’s relieved that the tension, that’d been weighing the air in the cafe down lately, has finally dissipated. Harim’s like, you actually felt worried? (since he’s such a cool guy. more on this later) Harim then talks about their cute awkward bickering as they go out on delivery. Sunki says he’s seeing Han Gyul in a new light – he didn’t look like the passionate type before, can’t believe he’d capable of liking Eun Chan that much, despite thinking she was a guy.
    Harim: yeah, that’s the way hyung is, once he’s got his eye on someone he remains devoted. But I still can’t believe Eun Chan is a girl – what great acting skills she has! Wraaa watch me peeee! -.-;;
Sunki: She’s seen mine too… hey. Which of ours do you think she likes best?
    Harim: Whose what?
Sunki gives Harim a meaningful look.. down there.
    Harim: What the…!

Hahahaa oh man these guys are nuts. This conversation is continued while the guys are cleaning up later.
Min Yub: Are you worried about that? I even kissed her!
Harim: Shh!! Aren’t you embarrassed, doing such a thing to our future sister in law?
Sunki: It’s been so long, she won’t even remember
Harim: …I even showed Eun Chan the tattoo on my butt, for memory. Madness! She never asked to see it, but I excitedly, voluntarily, pulled my own pants down, begged her come on, look at it, look at it, so pretty!
Eun Chan (comes in suddenly): What on earth are you going on about?
    Harim: !!! [runs away]

Oh man. I love Sunki so much. Of the people Eun Chan calls hyung, he’s the one who treats her most as a younger sister. He really cares about her – when Eun Chan admits that yeah, something happened (with Han Gyul) last night Sunki looks genuinely pleased when he smiles and says heyy. You didn’t just come back on a whim, did you. While everyone is preoccupied with teasing them (goodnaturedly) he just stands back but his approval is palpable. He even lets down his ‘cool’ mask to check out Han Gyul’s reaction! (Meanwhile Harim reacts just like MC Yoo on X-Man haha)

I love this episode even more after getting the c-subs. I keep rewatching the beginning and the end… Their acting is so real you just get carried away. In that painful scene in the beginning their breaths get caught, as though it hurt to breathe, and yours gets caught along with them. When Eun Chan says even if you don’t want to see me… then she pauses as if to contemplate the consequences of this, then on a sob she continues… couldn’t we still see each other, even so? This unwillingness to commit herself to empty promises reminds me of Yu Ju’s words to Han Sung, when she says she’s never known him to take his words lightly, but in the last few days she’s heard so many empty words (빈말) fall from his mouth – I don’t love Eun Chan, I’ve forgotten her – she doesn’t know what to think anymore. They’re opening themselves up completely to each other – when Han Gyul describes the ‘old’ Eun Chan he ‘knew’, the little tagalong that brought so much cheer he wanted to be just like him I wanted to cry. You can really really see how much Han Gyul loves the ‘real’ Eun Chan (the one he fell for in the first place, guy or girl or alien) – when he tips the drink can into her face just to provoke a reaction from her – when she yells at him what the hell do you think you’re trying to do?! It’s all gone into my nose!!! He looks really pleased – yep, there’s the real Eun Chan, he says happily. (Clearly like me he equates yelling to love heh)

“Phew, way to reduce me to a sniveling mess in the first five minutes.” – You’re so absolutely right, Javabeans. Now I’m madly trying (to no avail) to find the original script for this section [what is tagalong in Korean?] as well as the entire last phone conversation, so that I can hug their words to sleep instead of have the scenes replay in my head with the translation as a background narration. Sigh! No matter how the drama ends up from now, at least I know I’ll always have these episodes.

  168. I am from Malaysia and only understand bits and pieces of Korean after watching endless number of them but seems like I can understand Coffee Prince much more even without the subtitles just by reading summaries here and there. Such a beautiful story.. so natural and we all can relate to.. heeeeee…I’m giddyyyyyyyyyy.. But I have to say your summary is the best of them all that I’ve seen. It is definitely beautiful writing.. thank you for making my day much more brighter.. :)

  169. i love love love this ep? can i say how i love it. i nearly forgot to comment. hahaha omg! the chesnut scene i swear is on my top3 romantic moments for kdramas ever. hahaha i get so giddy, i keep watching this ep. what to say everyones said so much already. i just love it. the transistion from the bitter HG to one so sweet guy is just too cute, plus EC is so smooth from the guy-ish way to the more feminine one. one thing i wanted to skip about this ep was the airport scene of YJ and HS. yes, i feel bad for HS. but that didnt go down that smoothly and how it went about was a tad too messy. annoys me in a way.

  170. thanks acey @ 167.. i was wondering what they said too!!!

  171. Gosh, this is soo good :) Thanks!

  172. can anyone transplant what EC and HG were saying during the chestnut scene from the moment HG stepped on the chestnut until they met in the middle??? please…please… hehehehehe

  173. Be still my heart!!!!! Coffee Prince and Javabeans, rock!
    Thanks Javabeans!

  174. This is when the girl finds out she has cancer. :)

  175. “when the girl finds out she has cancer”
Or remembers that she’d forgotten she had cancer, memory loss being a side effect of the miracle laser treatment that apparently cured her, paid for by her (of course also forgotten) first love who indentured himself for life to a band of Korean gangsters in Alaska to raise the cash. But no. The script writers of CP couldn’t do that to us. They’ve gone a quite long way from the novel plot, but they couldn’t surely go that far, even if for some reason they decided that javabeans-ism was a dangerous movement that they had to crush by revealing that CP had been secretly planned to end up as a load of rubbish all along. (Though, having said that, I have to admit that I nearly cracked a rib laughing at the totally insane variant on the memory-loss cliche that the writers of the Hour of Dog and Wolf tried to foist on viewers in yesterday’s episode). I nearly called it an “old chesnut”, but no true lover of CP will ever use “chesnut” as a term of abuse again.

  176. its just incredible…… totally enjoy it……….. millions thanks for your hardwork!!!!!!!!!!!

  177. Javabeans,
I’m a fans of Yoon Eun hye and Coffee prince 1 store .
It’s lucky for me to find such a wonderful blog~~U are really doing a god job !!

  178. Thank you so much your perfect summary make me happy

  179. Am de-lurking… omg, such a weird feeling.
First off, thanks to Javabeans for being so awesome with the blog! I am amazed at your ability to dedicate so much of your time and energy – not that I’m complaining, mind. ^^
I do wonder what they’re going to do now, with 4 episodes left to go and a 1 hour special coming up. Hopefully the show won’t take a sudden nose-dive.
Formosa, if you have access to high-speed internet, you can go to a number of hosting sites (that are in Chinese) like tudou.com to watch Coffee Prince with Chinese subs.

  180. you are doing an awesome job thank you soooo much. i think i am in love with this drama. once again thanks and keep up the good work.

  181. Finish reading the recap all the comments~happy and sweety,lol^_^,though a little tired~
BTW,Sevenses are from China too?I often go those websites to watch videos, esp tudou.com~3Q!!but I prefer to watch the downloaded Coffee Prince,it’s more clear otherwise!!
ps:just find the web is in America.its 23:14pm by my watch!!^_^time for bed now~
    Many thanks to javabeans again!!

  182. thank you this is so relieving since i cant understand korean… you just made my day!!!!

  183. thanks for your hardwork this is so nice knowing i cant undestand korean…good job ur a good historian…i salute you

  184. Formosa – no, I’m in Canada… >.

  185. i remember one episode when Eun Chan tells Han Gyul on how he could easily change in one night (that’s after the scene in the beach and they just became sworn borthers) and telling her to leave and all. Han Gyul’s character he could be funny- with how he makes fun of Eun Chan and enjoying his time with her; sad- when he was confused and doesn’t know what he really feels about EC; angry- when he found out that EC is a girl and she lied to him though he give his love eventhough he thought she was a guy; and happy- when he realized that he couldn’t live without EC and forgives her and continue their love. Like every episode the plot could turn from a funny set up to a sad one, next everyone’s angry then happy again- Han Gyul’s character portrays the episodes, it’s like everyone’s waiting on how he would cope up with the new revelation, like in this episode it turns out to be a sad to a happy one…but then again we all know that Han Gyul ‘could easily change in one night’ so i won’t be surprise that the next episode would be a different kind of his other character again.
Let’s just go with the flow…. Thanks a million Javabeans!

  186. I have been reading all your ’summaries’. No wait. I have been devouring all your summaries with much relish and thought it’s about time I give you some mad props for your writing and analysis.
The summary tides me till the subs come out. While I keep telling myself not to spoil myself, I really can’t help it.
TwoP’s got nothing on you man!

  187. I ABSOLUTLEY LOVE COFFEE PRINCE!
THANXS A BUNCH FOR UPLOADING THE INFO..**
    CAN’T WAIT FOR EPISODE 13 AND 14!!!!
I HOPE EUN CHAN AND HAN GYUL START DATING AND MARRY!
    WIPPEDD!

  188. i love you. i was so nervous of what’s gonna happen lol. and a bit depressed. thank you dramabeans :D

ne, i never realized the songs being played in the background of the dramas until you posted them up. really enjoyed them XD

  189. Acey @ 167: Thanks for your translation. It’s so funny though. I could not believe that those guys could actually talk about it like that. OMG!!!!!!! I love this Dramas. Compare to others, this one is not only funny but actually somewhat meaningful too. Ha ha. I can’t wait to the next episode. Oh yeah, there’s one thing I one to ask. I found that the producer extended Coffee Prince for two more episodes. Is it true????

  190. ktv- yes it is true so up till ep 17 and one extra hour of specials

  191. apparently YEH has been having severe headaches but doesn’t show it on set (she uses her free time to go to the doctors) so MBC is no longer sure if they can finish the series let alone extend it (check CP soompi thread).

so sad, i really hope YEH gets well soon! as much as i love CP, her health comes first!

    AJA! FIGHTING!

  192. Is this true she is having sever headaches? Is it on the news?

  193. To 174catinmyfridge & 175Gramps: You had me rolling on the floor, with the cancer and memory bits! Of course, you forgot to include that EC and HG may be …. (drumroll, please) half-siblings, which she also couldn’t remember because the laser treatment for her cancer wiped out her memory, hee, hee.
Whoa…JavaBean’s latest post is that there are reports that YEH, in real life, is having severe headaches. I hope it’s not serious. But, I think HG better stop slapping her upside on the head.
Have a nice weekend to all!

  194. Cancer? Memory lost? I’ll be slamming my own head on the wall if any of the cancer thing or amnesia scenario ever happens just for the sake of extending eppies… yikes! hope everything’s a-ok with CP’s casts and crews. specially YEH.

  195. thank you so much for this one. OMG. I’m so giddy reading this one. A lot of happy scenes~

  196. woah..If you think about it..Go Eun Chan has seen a lot of male’s youknowwhat..hahaha XD..after reading java bean’s summaries over and over again and after watching it for several times already..I thought about that just now ..haha lol XD

  197. tnks for the summary….its a relief…i can pigure out now what’s happening…it cute…

  198. im sorry “figure”

  199. Auntie Mame “Whoa…JavaBean’s latest post is that there are reports that YEH, in real life, is having severe headaches.”
Yes, and reading that later post by javabeans made me feel queasy, because my earlier jokiness re the possible fate of YEH’s character seemed suddenly in very bad taste. I suppose one of the questionable things about KDrama being so ready to invoke life-threatening illnesses in young people in the interests of tear-jerking and plot mechanics is that it tends to make us assume they aren’t going to happen in real life. Not that whatever is wrong with YEH need be life-threatening, but persistent severe headaches bad enough to make a true professional like her consider suspending a series that half of Korea and now a fair portion of the rest of the world are hanging on to doesn’t sound at all like somethng that can or should be shrugged off. Oh dear.

  200. I read somewhere that after episode 11 to expect some more teary and sad episodes. ARGH!!! AND that 8 peaks only wanted her to work their own dramas. Seems she worked for the vineyard man and coffee prince against their wishes?

  201. waah! 201st to comment. kewl! does this episode have the highest number of comments or what? it’s definitely gonna be a long weekend but atleast i have you guyz wiht me throughout the wait! so excited for the lucky 13th episode! ;p

  202. IF anyone wants to see some compilations of Gong Yoo kissing scenes from all over the place?
    HERE IT IS

  203. javabeans: absolutely love that song when they were picking up the chestnuts! such a feel good tune. any chance you might know or put up the song anywhere in your site? :D

  204. I just want to give thanks to the person who is explaining all this for us because if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be able to understand what’s really going on. I don’t know if anyone had told you this before but you’re kind of like the movie itself…You’re funny!. I don’t know if you realized it or not but the way you described it……..half way through it you would pause and kind of give us your thoughts and sort of hint what you’re going through in explaining this to all of us. I think….., may be,….it’s better I leave it like this….I thik I’m getting a little corny…..being able to watch the movie and read afterward what you think….makes a perfect match. It makes me feel like I’m actually there talking to you…come to think of it, may be everone else I think…., thank you.

  205. hey thanks a lot for the re-cap! it would be better if you could help out the S2 subbers as your korean language seems v gd. i think you should reconsider ;p

  206. i’mwithme, lol, i am a withs2 subber…
yakatoo, the chestnut scene song is belle epoque’s “may,” and is posted on the unofficial soundtrack page.

  207. “lol, i am a withs2 subber”

lol indeed, because “spot translator: javabeans” in WITHS2 credits means “the individual subs that are in faultless grammar, the correct stylistic register and scrupulously accurate are most likely by javabeans. Your mileage on the rest may occasionally vary.” But then translating Korean=> English, even outside the constraints of subbing, is fantastically hard (look at the complete shambles Messrs Google and Babelfish’s expensively-programed robots make of the job) and these guys all do an incredible job, especially in view of the speed at which they turn the work round. .

“the chestnut scene” Aw javabeans, even though I loyally supported you in spelling the word as “chesnuts” (accepted by both Webster and the OED as a “rare variant” rather than a spelling mistake) you’ve gone over to the majority spelling of “chestnut”. Ah well.

  208. babyelephant
this is what they said in the chestnut scene
    EC waiting on the steps…..

EC: guess he still hasn’t left work yet…..
(after realizing she had been dropping a trail of chestnuts behind her)
EC (speaking to herself while picking up the chestnuts) “get a grip….how long are you gonna cry over him GEC? GEC has to live her own life – CHG has to live his life

HG: muttering something inaudible as he picks up the chestnuts

(Standing up as they finally come face to face)
HG: Are all these yours? Why are you dropping these all over the neighborhood?
How do you expect to be paid….If you’re gonna work, do it properly. What are you doing? Aren’t you going to take these from me?

EC: yes ( then gets up and spills what she’s gathered)
    HG: You spilled them all!!

  209. Gramps, you give me too much credit. Yes, I do a lot of “spot translating” for With S2 subs, but that term can mean anything from a line or two of dialogue unscrambling (which I usually feel guilty getting credited for) to an entire proofread pass, so you can’t really tell how much work I’ve done on it. Most of the credit goes to the translators for those… If you care to scrutinize my own work, there are only a few things I’ve translated in their entirety, which are the latter half of Soulmate (which I fell into because of the first half which was superbly translated by xradman) and Neukkim, which I’m currently (um, soon to be going back to) working on. I’ve done episodes of various dramas but those are just one here and there.

  210. jk@208, thanks a lot for the transplantion…
anyway, ep 13 preview seems promising ;) ))) can’t wait for your summaries javabeans!

  211. Anyone interested in checking out preview of Episode 13? :)
I posted it at http://www.asian-buzz.com to share with everyone. I hope you enjoy. Please leave comments! :)

  212. Acey, I agree with you SunKi definitely is very mature and caring. Despite being stand offish at the beginning, his sensitive side is showing more and more now. Part of his “Japanese” quality? ;) hehehe

  213. So sorry, javabeans, that was pretty crass of me. With a single piece of thoughtless flippancy I managed both to slight the achievements of your co-fansubbers and to put you in the awkward position of having to disclaim what you felt was undue credit. My only excuse is that I was trying to respond to the notion that your Korean was merely “v gd” (as well as to an apparent unawareness of how much you have already given to the fansubbing community aside from your writing here). I suppose I reacted rather as the more staid members of my family did on an occasion long ago when my father-in-law, struggling with his shyness, an uncomfortable new suit, and a language not his own, described my mother’s cooking as “quite good”. What I should have said is that it isn’t really (just) a matter how good either your Korean or your English are. The splendid thing about your writing is that you pass so effortlessly between two diverse cultural worlds, doing full justice to both in all their difference and yet magically, enchantingly, letting us all sense how they are bound up into a single human world of caring, hoping, fearing and, yes, laughing, that knows no language barriers.

  214. :) I can’t seem to stop smiling :) :) haha thanks for this fab summary :) this episode got me all giggly and…just happy. the cuteness is like killing me. I already watched the episode and I’m just commenting the summary now but it still gets me all hyped up. arg, this show is going to take over my whole brain :)

  215. Many thanks for the summaries.. you write them so well that I don’t even need to watch the raw episodes!

  217. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh the chestnut trail incident is sooooo sweet!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE it too!!!!!!!! that was genius of the writer! omgomg

  221. can’t wait to see this episode! thanks for the summary!

  222. Thanks for translating!!I’m really glad I found your page>

  223. OMYGASH! =)

The meeting-in-the-middle scene is the sweetest scene among all the kdramas I’ve watched. Kudos to the script writer/s and director, and also to YEH and Gong Yoo’s superb acting! :) )

  224. oh..btw..I forgot to mention that when I watched the part where Hang Gyul and Eun Chan were talking and HG gave EC 3 mins to talk..that part..yeah?..well for me..it looked like it was acted and it didn’t have the natural feel in it..unlike its other parts..that’s all..haha lol XD

  225. ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!^^im liking this!!!!

  226. watch Episode 11 and 12 with english subtitles at:
    http://www.mysoju.com/the-1st-shop-of-coffee-prince/

    Enjoy!~

  227. sighhh i love love love this ep… hk is so so cute… they are the sweetest couple int he entire world!

i love you darmabeans, for your wonderful efforts

  228. I want to know if you can tell me the name of the song or the singer in the part when han sung is in the car and yu ju is going to the airport …because i was looking in the song list of all the eps but i couldn’t find it… and thank you for all the summaries (^_^)/

  229. ur summaries are getting into more detail now!
ok i watched episode 11 and 12 nonstop
episode 12 seemed to breeze thru for some reason
actually i’m surprised u thought the yuju + hs scene was over-reacted because i really like it
i was like wow, usually in dramas couples who break up will throw things or something ridiculous but in this one they actually yell at each other (i found it really realistic because it happens to me)

maybe i’m just bad at judging rather people can act or not, but i was impressed =)

coffee prince is actually getting boring for me though because the plot is really predictable. what keeps me alive are the little stuff that they add + acting + music.

  230. Thank you so much! But, when are they going to make her dressed as a girl? lol. I didn’t know that they have that brotherly affection or something (cousinssss…)…
Thanks again! I LOVE this drama!

  231. addt’l to jk’s statement:
    babyelephant
this is what they said in the chestnut scene
    EC waiting on the steps…..

EC: guess he still hasn’t left work yet…..
(after realizing she had been dropping a trail of chestnuts behind her)
EC (speaking to herself while picking up the chestnuts) “get a grip….how long are you gonna cry over him GEC? GEC has to live her own life – CHG has to live his life

HG: muttering something inaudible as he picks up the chestnuts
what HG was muttering while picking up the chestnuts: GEC, so clumsy… How far did it spill… How many are there?

  232. There is so much to say and yet, I don’t know what to say to truly capture all of the emotions and thoughts that ran through my heart and mind as I watched this episode. Poignant, heartwrenching, heartwarming, delightful, adorable, wonderful, completely satisfying, orgasmic, fulfilling. Coffee Prince’s script is unique, so unlike what has become the fomulaic Kdrama, boring and trite. The writing bar has been raised and future dramas will have to offer more than the usual love triangle, abandoned chilld out of wedlock, brother-sister-almost-oops! relationship ad nauseum. Not only has the writing been outstanding but so have the wonderfully credible performances of Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye. They both have the attractiveness appeal (GY….”drool”) but I especially love watching GY and the realistic facial expressions and body language and tone of voice that he utilizes to convey the spectrum of emotions that his relationship with YEH imposes on him.
Thank you Acey for expressing what I couldn’t @55 and for the lovely image of “hugging their words to sleep”, to all the above writers
whose discussions are thoughtful and make this a great blog to come to and share and of course, to Javabeans who makes all of this possible.

  233. ouch, i dont trust this. O my god when i saw this movie, i cant watch any other film for 2 weeks. I always repeat the scene i love and push my friends to watch with me. I learned many things from this drama, but the most important is just believe to your heart so u wo’nt hurt someone who u loved. and yoon eun hye, u can make this movie alive with your acting, u just make it perfect, u really look like a man. From your way in standing, talking and also walking. see u change from a feminim princess in princess hours, i think u’re agood actress. Han gyul u’re so sexy and yoour smile, oh my god i cant forget it. overall this is good movie and u must watch!!!!!!

  234. i really love the story..
it helped me alot to 4get my zero math exam..
    still recovering^.^

  235. pls wats the song played the night han gyul and eun chan sorted their feeling out

  236. it so very favalous story that has ever seen…..

  237. loved this episode, they’ve been opened to each other and they were able to express their feelings so well. inspirational indeed..

  238. I Love Han GeoL

  239. I fell in love with Coffee Prince.I will MARRY him for sure!lol
and OHh yeah,,this episode is the BEST <333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333..

  240. There have been negative comments on the HS-YJ parting sidewalk scene. I thought it was realistic. YJ admitted in the previous episode that she’s not really cool feeling betrayed even when she’ has committed the same ‘crime’. I think any woman would feel bad if her man admits liking someone else. And she knows HS too well to suspect that this could be a deeply rooted feeling.

She’s just shocked that what she’s done, HS is capable of doing. And her reaction is just natural. It would be more unnatural if she just takes it lightly. She just has to go thru the full cycle before she can accept the betrayal.

As for Gong Yoo, I just fell in love with this guy. His face is so capable of evoking the full breadth of human emotion – anger, love, happiness…

I’m still watching the series every now and again… this is my all-time fav K-drama.

  241. EHY! I WANT TO KNOW WHAT SONG DID USE IN SCENE OF HANG-SUNG AND YOO JOO IN AIRPORT! BECAUSE IT’S NOT ON THE SOUNDTRACK LIST!
IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL I WANT TO KNOW PLSS!!
    T_T…….CAN U POST IT!

  242. i loved it!!!!!!!!!!!
now that i already saw it im happy..
    i loved coffee prince!!! tc
