Annyeong Chingu Deul!

This week, the Korean drama god is still winning and the people in Korea know it as Temperature of Love reached a good record. Making me want to watch it more.

But the Drama God is trying to fight back! (Or his wife is kicking his butt) Kim Eun Sook, Park Min Hye and Lee Min Ho are teaming up for what I hope will be an awesome drama. Mostly I'm excited about the writing.

There is also Miss Kim... which has yet to get translated. I'm not quite sure about the acting yet since the Japanese version had an actor that specialized in that type of bumbling which came naturally. (Is this the year for the klutz, drok geek, nunchi eopseo attack??? If so, bring it on!)

I still want rom com drama crack though. I'm hoping Kim Eun Sook will deliver that, but I'd like a dose before then as well, because this year looks grim for dramas. Last crack I had was King of Dramas.

And my other wish is for Yoon Eun Hye to be in an SBS drama, since Park Sin Hye is taking Heirs. >.<;; It's not that I dislike her, but my wish for Running Man... Or maybe Yoon Eun Hye with Lee Min Ki in an SBS drama, because that would be Daebak. (Jinjja) That would mean Running Man would get my wished for cast and Bong Seon can show up as "support". I have to have my fantasies since dramaland isn't giving it to me.

I will, however, post my script I've been working on separately. <3 I'm playing on Wang Ji Hye's and Lee Kwang Soo's strengths. (I've watched a lot of their dramas). Debating cating Hwang Kwang Hee as Lee Kwang Soo's younger brother.

All About My Romance (Not to be confused with All About My Wife)

I smell a low budget. I half watched the first 15 minutes. I might give it more of a chance when it gets subs. Either it warms up later and I'm missing that fact, or it really isn't that special, which is something I am getting right now.

^^;; The writing will have to pull through for this one. Because there isn't eye candy for me (though eye candy never let me keep a drama).

Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo (remake of the older one which sucked):
- Acting: So-so (Mostly because it sounds like acting, which means it's not real acting...) The weakest link are her friends.
- Some shameless borrowing from It Started with a Kiss from the opening. (or am I the only one) also taking advantage that it is Tokyo by plastering several well-known Tokyo sites in the Opening.
- More faithful to the manga than the first version.
- Manages to get some laughs.
- The clothing matches the manga's style.
- Music matches the mood of the manga well.
- The pacing is off, though... not inconsistent, but doesn't match the manga. The manga, like the TW version had a deliberate pacing to it, but having to cram it into 10 or so episodes cuts that short.
- They changed earthquake to a shooting star...

Overall: While the acting is uneven, the fact that the acting is trying to match the original characters and it's close to the original manga, I would rank this still below It Started with a Kiss, but much higher than the Korean version. Besides, It Started with a Kiss was only one of two versions that got the stamp of approval from the creator (Tada-sensei) and she called Ariel "cute" and a "good match" for her character. This includes the anime. (One thing that the newer versions don't get is the pacing is a feature of the manga and Winnie was faithful to the manga down to the letter.)

Nine

Who was in the office--I didn't expect that. But then, I kinda disagree with the show. He could still be alive and by refusing medically help that's still murder. (At least it is in the US.)

Still, how are they going to stretch it by another 10 episodes with the key element gone?

The last episode went a little too makjang for my taste with all the cosmic connections thing. Despite that out of the two episodes the "Secret" scene is still my favorite. I think I could replay it many time over to just analyze it. I want to see how it was scripted too.

If Min Yeong takes the helm, I'd be all for that, though. (The hair cut makes sense by now--did no one else get why her hair was cut that way?)

Speculation is at the end.

The Rich Man Poor Woman Special
I loved it. It's really really cute. (Not referring to Episode 0)

BTW. Makoto is like the UX person and very accurate.

Huguo is like the programmer. (Stereotypical)

I am aching for a rom com this hard. That's what I realized, though I watched it raw.

Gu Am Heo Joon
It's travelling faster than I thought it would. Is it me, or does Heo Joon seem to have a fetish for pink hanbok? (Especially with yellow collars)

I have to say, while I'm surprised at the clip it did take, at the same time it's not allowing one to savor anything--I don't mean go all Out Horse Doctor, but the flash of women and characters sometimes feels a little too rapid such that they don't seem to gain weight.

The script writer has done this story 3 times before, so I'm not sure what he wishes in redoing it a fourth time. (Maybe milking it???)

Despite that, it is (so far) ten times better than Horse doctor and I'm quibbling.

Lee Soon Sin
Sin Joon Ho--is not quite a dork. He definitely lacks "noonchi"*, but he's too self-conscious to be a true dork. He's definitely a klutz, but he's lacking that ability to laugh at himself to make him a dork. That would make him a schmuck. This is the kind of guy that lacks social graces, but is unaware of it, but is too proud to laugh at himself. (Gotta love the Yiddish)

A dork, however, is aware that he's generally lacking in social graces, fumbles and has the grace to laugh about it. (Dorks in the in the industry--Lee Seunggi and Lee Kwang Soo are real dorks. They make mistakes, figure it out and then laugh about it in a good nature.)

^^ I disagree, that Sin Joon Ho is a dork. Schmuck is a better description.

I like dorks, but not schmucks. Dorks have the ability to realize their foibles and laugh in a good nature about it.

* (Noonchi is eye measure... it's kinda a combination of perception and intuition to read social situations and possibilities. Kim Jong Kook is said to have a lot of "noonchi" but often Kwang Soo isa said to "lack" in it.)

Oh and I find Song Mi Reyong's scenes boring. I get how she's connected, but it's still dull. She's almost always alone and when she's not she's in fits which is boring to watch. I wish they'd cut her. (She should have died instead). I tend to skip through her.

Cultural Note for Nine:

This time the telephone manners.

In Korea, there is no goodbye on the phone.

You say "Hello" (여버세요/Yeobeoseyo) Speak and then as you're hanging up (Keun oh), you either raise your voice or say, "The end" (roughly translated)

That's why the whole putting down the phone and saying something at the last minute showed up in Nine.

I've pulled this a few times without realizing it until afterwards. In the US, at least, it means you're angry. ^ ^;

*Spoilers for NINE*

So given the preview, I have possibilities for what could happen. I can't narrow them down because I don't know the writer or director well. =P For those of you that have watched their works, you can probably guess. (Queen In Hyeon would be the biggest tip off)

1. Scenario 1
He really does die.
His past self gets the message about the brain cancer thing and decides to do something about it. He redoes the whole travelling to the past, fixes the time line, leading to a parallel time line problem--(basically a parallel timeline loop--the new Park Seon Woo, creates our Park Seon Woo's reality.)
For me, this would absolutely suck as a plotline. I'll call it cheap. It's makjang, but it's cheap.

2. Scenario 2
Since the last incense stick is in 1992, he goes back 20 years from 1992, not from the present. (Otherwise why else would they place it in 1992). This would mean he would see his own parents get together BEFORE he was born. His brother was 7 then. He could tell his brother about what will happen in the future--that he really isn's the son of his father, Park Chun Soo. This may block the murder, since this seems to be the main cause. This little bit of information can ripple the timeline though. (But it doesn't look like they are doing butterfly effect.

3. Scenario 3
He goes back to 1992, as if the incense sticks are calling him. He runs into his younger self, who now believes and sees his hospital gown. He asks what's wrong, and delirious, Seon Woo tells him the truth, causing a ripple.

4. Min Young (whatever her last name)

Finds out the truth and takes over for Seon Woo... fixing what went wrong forward, by making her current father confess to the crimes. (Unlikely, though, from my guess.)

5. Seung Joon takes over.

They've been showing his wife and his desire for a new wife a lot, so it's a possibility... If he goes to the past, then tells the younger Seon Woo the truth of what happened and figured it out, then Seon Woo can be revived with that knowledge. Which would also give him more incense sticks as he technically didn't use them yet.

6. Seon Woo (Younger)
Figures it out on his own. (This is a harder path, but would generate quite a few episodes.) He has enough evidence from older Seon Woo's video. (1993? USB comes out in 1994, so he could watch the video given that the format of the video is in MP3 or MP4. Since the marriage happens in 1993, he can also figure out his older self's desire from his cellphone while routing around for the USB.) The younger self brings back the older self from this manner.

Either way, without the time travel and quite a few more episodes to go, they need more hook, because right now, if they continue without their hero, they are sunk. And if they go full on makjang, i'm ditching it.

They seem to have closely scripted it...

Haha, I totally posted my thoughts after you without reading yours...so you did watch Itazura Na Kiss! It looks like we share the same exact thoughts on it. Interesting stuff about Nine...I doubt it's going to go makjangy but I have faith that whatever will happen will be reasonable and very interesting. I think he will die but will be brought back to life from some magical force because technically all the rules of the sticks haven't been laid out and there's still that unexplained aspect of why Sun Woo and his friend retains their memories and why the incense sticks still exist.

Re Lee Soon Shin drama: I find Jun Ho adorkable. Schmutz seems more like a description for a clumsier personality. If Jun Ho is unaware of his lack of social graces then how is he able to laugh at it? ;)

HEllo! I'll wait a bit on All About My Romance to see how it goes. When does it play? It's not on the list to the right on Dramabeans.

Thanks for all the other great info!

For a dork (I being one). It's at the point that people point it out to you that you laugh. Not embarrassment, but you realize how funny it is.

Joon Ho, to me, isn't the kind of guy that will stand in front of a Noraebang, knowing he can't sing and doesn't care. He's more likely to stay sitting, or be totally unaware of his inability and get angry when you point it out.

He definitely lacks Noonchi. Like seriously lacks noonchi.

Lee Seunggi, for example, in Running Man when he discovered the truth at the end of his most recent episode, smiled and laughed about it when it was pointed out to him. They called him a "bubble head" but that's real life dork.

Joon Ho when he discovered the truth about why she was being cagey, didn't laugh about it. He just sent someone else to do his work for him and then tried to one up her. That's not a dork. A dork laughs at themselves when they finally figure it out and has the attitude of "I'll try better next time." Joon Ho lacks that... putting him down as not a dork.

Lack of coordination is a klutz. (Loves the Yiddish for describing people)

A geek specializes. A Computer Geek. A drama geek. (A lot about one thing)

A nerd knows all. (A little about a lot)

This will be geeky, but A geek is more like a Virgo and A nerd is more like a Gemini description.

A Dork lacks social grace, but laughs at himself.

A schmuck lacks social grace, has it pointed out and gets angry about it.

A schmutz kinda fumbles in social graces and would be more of the bumbling type. (Queen of the Workplace, Japanese style)

schlemiel is physically awkward. (Spills the soup into the guys lap)

schlimazel is an unlucky person. (gets the soup poured into lap)

Dorks cuteness to me, is their ability to be able to laugh at themselves once they realize the mistake has been made and still get away with it. Singing in the street is a dork. Once I finish the first episode of the script, which is almost done, then I'll show the definition of a dork with that. =P

I don't think the situation called for a laugh when he found out that she was swindled. And a person isn't a dork all the time. I mean, he was being business-like more than anything. I just don't think it's right to characterize him as just being one thing all the time. To me, Jun Ho is dorky, bumbling, and sometimes full of airs. So he's not simply a one-dimensional schmuck. Anyways, I guess we'll just agree to disagree. :)

Agree to disagree. Dorks don't have airs... that's the distinction I'm raising. ^^;; It's the humbleness I'm trying to drive after.

Side note: When i read "a nerd A geek is more like a Virgo and a nerd is more like a Gemini", I went Heeyy!!? but then I realized it was true and had to laugh.

Of course there are exceptions to every generalization.

There i go nerding off again.

Just an expansion on the Yiddish, as learned from my grandmother growing up:

Schmutz just means 'dirt' in Yiddish. I don't know any person-related insult that it has unless you're saying someone is garbage. Which works, but it's a very light insult. It doesn't have much zing.

A good literal translation of 'schmuck' is saying someone is a dick. That's what it refers to: the male organ. There are absolutely dozens of ways to pejoratively refer to the male genitals in Yiddish and they have different undertones.

The word 'schmuck' doesn't have much to do with social graces, except that a schmuck might indeed react poorly after others point out his lack of social graces. But that's just one aspect of many. Basically, calling someone a schmuck is a vulgar way to say they're a rotten person.

Calling someone a schmuck basically means they're a jerk-face, and it's a bit obscene. You wouldn't say it in front of your parents if they're at all conservative. I would say it in front of my mom if we're talking about someone who really earned it, but even then I'd tread cautiously. Still, I might get away with it because we're fairly relaxed and friendly. If I said it in front of my dad, there'd be hell to pay. He raised me better than this. So this is why I'm not married yet. Etc. etc. lots of fun. :D

You have to be intentionally mean to people to be a schmuck. I don't think Jun Ho of You're the Best, Lee Soon Shin does that enough to get the label of 'schmuck.' He's more bumbling and self-conscious and covers it up by being a show-off whose little bubble breaks whenever he's foiled. He was fairly petty to Soon Shin and she lost her job, but that's because seeing her reminded him of his embarrassment at a vital moment. He's spiteful and whiny, but I still don't think it fits. The connotations built into the word 'schmuck' aren't the harshest, but still, I think it's a level or two meaner than Jun Ho actually is. To be honest, I think he's too emotionally immature to be a true schmuck.

Dokko Jin in Greatest Love is undoubtedly a schmuck. The only problem is that no one knows it except Ae Jung and other people close to him. But he's intentionally horrid to her and she could very accurately call him a schmuck. By the end, he's not one anymore. Yay for love.

A schlemiel might be physically awkward, but again, that's just one aspect. Basically, it's a very specific type of fool. If you call someone a schlemiel, it means he or she often has bad luck, can't catch a break and pretty much always gets the short end of the stick. Na Bo Ri of Biscuit Teacher, Star Candy is a schlemiel at the start of the show. So is Shin Young in the start of The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, if only because things rarely go her way, her sunbae takes advantage of her and she ends up looking like a non-professional fool on a regular basis.

If you're a schlemazel, things never go your way, you have the worst luck imaginable and you are miserable loser. When we first meet the Ajhusshi in City Hunter, he is totally a schlemazel. Lee Kang To in Gaksital is a poor schlemazel until Shunji takes him under his wing, which is why he's so emotionally attached to him.

Uh, that was more than I meant to ramble. :P But I hope that helps a bit.

About Itazura Na Kiss!, and just to clear the air. The TW version wasn't the first version. The first version was Japanese. It was my first Japanese drama ever.
I haven't read the manga, but I thing the first version was made before the manga ended, so it ends when they are still in college.
I haven't had time to watch this new version for obvious reasons. But for those who have time, check the first version and then compare.

I know that. Which I alluded to, loosely. However, the first Japanese version suxored (the technical term) And that's not picking on your taste. But it really did suck. It didn't capture the spirit of the manga at all and was too slick in the wrong ways. The pacing and tone was off.

I read the manga, too.

Of all the versions, It Started with a Kiss was the closest. When Winnie changed something from the story, he actually was meticulous enough to refer to it in the drama. (Like when they didn't go to the spa in They Kiss Again, he had the script refer to it anyway.)

Even the ending of the drama he refused to script something that wasn't Tada-sensei's intention and followed her. He even paid a tribute to her at the end of "It Started with a Kiss" (though he got permission for They Kiss Again before that, from what I heard.)

This is why I like Winnie's dramas (well one of the reasons). He has a deep respect for his artists and the originators of the material. (Also he's kinda mischievous with his viewers, often making the previews misleading... which pissed off first timers for In Time With You. But I love that. I wish more directors would do that--it would code spoilers and make the viewer think about how they view the world around them.) He also likes to cut together things that NGed for the actual drama and use a different take for the bit after the commercial. (His use of mirrors and small bits of symbolism which you have to track like Kim Eun Sook's dramas also makes me fall over myself.)

He also pranks the cast occasionally... which makes the BTS fun. Ariel once took a long take... and he didn't tell her to quit (She was supposed to improve the scene a bit). She finally asked when she could stop, then he stopped it there. (He tends to trust his actors a lot to deliver and when they are new, he'll actually play act the part for them so they know what he's looking for.) He doesn't say cut a lot and lets the actors reset themselves... ^^

<3 Winnie as a director. Sorry for the sudden rave.

But yeah, faithfulness alone, in tone and storyline, It Started with a Kiss is still the most accurate. The newer version *does* do better than the original Japanese version in matching tone and characters, but because of the episode limit, the pacing is being sacrificed.

KimYoomi - OK, so I am sold, tell me what other dramas Winnie has done so I can check them out.

0

I agree with you on that. The Japanese version was my first jdrama, not my favorite one.
About the tw one I like it, but I haven't been able to watch They Kiss Again.
And thank you for the explanation about Winnie, I don't know much about the insides of twdramas.

0

@Julie, Try "The Rose" which is one of my top favorites of his too. Probably my second favorite drama.

It's a drama where he likes using mirrors and there are a ton of bedroom scenes used well with out, the hanky panky--I've never seen a director set so many interesting scenes in a bedroom before without using it for the intended purposes. (Kinda gives it new meaning).

It also has Joe Cheng in it which was referred to a little in It Started with a Kiss. Plus it's a pretty good story overall. It gets a tiny bit squick, but the overall messages he brings forward rather than the squick.

Second favorite, definitely. (After It Started with a Kiss and They Kiss again, which I consider one drama).

0

Watching 'The Rose' now and it's a crazy ride. First drama I've seen with half-sibling *stuff*. But it has Joe Cheng, so how can I look away?

I go to soompi sometimes... I translated the lyrics for Rich Man and Poor Woman, etc.

I usually go there for the mind bending dramas. Last time I was on was for I Need Romance 2012. I was surprised when no one got the scene where Seok Hyeon and Yeol Mae went to the country and he didn't accept her back. =P The drama was setting up for it forever. I wanted to see if anyone else got that, but I saw a lot of confused comments instead.

Also was there to explain Hong Gil Dong. ('cause the Hong Sisters went ninja on some plot points)

--;; I have more fun though when I can share with someone that gets it off the bat and sees what I see and sometimes we play off of each other and the drama proves it by saying it point blank. I wish the US and other countries shared Korea's love for Noonchi... (The US hates my Noonchi so I tend to hide it or not use it.) Most of mine is directed towards stories these days since it's a bit more innocuous.

Meaning, no one else has speculation about Nine? Can no one narrow the field of choices based off of Queen In Hyeon??? Which seems more likely based on what Queen In Hyeon did?

I just love to enjoy stories as I go along, you know just for the amusing feeling of being surprised and not having to say "I knew it!" all the time but I tend to enjoy stories more if it makes me think from time to time, which Nine does surprisingly well.

There have been some speculations here and there but it doesn't hurt to stir more minds and having those things filed in one site :)

My Script: Chebol Chaebal

Working on the last 2 scenes... should be up soon.

I want a crack drama and it's kinda showing up in my script. =P The characters are dorky and kinda nuts.

asian-fiction.com/2013/04/05/chebol-chaebal-episode-1-act-1/

They have to go drinking and then the climax is when they bring Lee Cheol Soo home.

Still debating is Kwang Hee should show up as Cheol Soo's younger brother. =P He's also kinda dorky and loquacious. Might make a good counter point.

Changed the link: http://www.asian-fiction.com/2013/04/05/jebal-chaebeol-episode-1/

The script for the first episode is finished. It's 33 pages. But since I put in flashbacks and a noraebang scene, it probably will play out to be the required 47 pages in American Script format.

I might flesh out the scenes a bit more later in edits.

Ah, I'd love to see Lee Kwang Soo act out those scenes. He does physical stunts so well. And I think Daniel Henney playing straight man for this would be awesome.

Yoonmi- Of all that you've written, I've only seen Lee Soon-shin! I'm such a bad drama watcher lately...

I was disappointed YEH wasn't going to be in Heirs, but I like the PSH/LMH pairing better. YEH needs to be in something soon. I like your suggestion. Hehe.

As for Shin Joon-ho, he's just a sad, sad, downtrodden character. I wouldn't call him a schmuck (he's not intrinsically jerky enough for me to call him that), but definitely a clueless soul protecting himself with a fierce, fierce pride. I think of him more as a bumbling fool. He is so pitiable with all of the nasty relationships he has. INCLUDING his pathetic, weak, emotionally abused mother.
I want to see how he grows out of this. It'll be interesting. He's kinda in the same boat as Soon-shin, self-esteem wise.
I agree about Mi-ryeong. BORING. She made her bed. She needs to lay in it. I'm looking forward to the mentor relationship with Soon-shin, but nothing else. SHE IS BORING.

Bumbling fool--I'll definitely take. Schmutz.. not quite a dork. Too much pride covering for his foibles to be a dork.

"nunchi eobneun saram" definitely fits. Which would be the Korean definition of his character.

Korean needs to import Dork. And then US needs to import Noonchi. I would be for that 'cause it would make my life easier.

And Mi Ryeong is boring. God. I don't mind prissy characters (I mean I loved to hate TK's mom in YAB), but she's just brooding and alone far too much. I don't get why she's isolated. This is on the writer more than the actress. She's probably Soon Shin's birth mother too from the obvious hints, but she's SO boring to watch. Give the actress some meat to work with. The scandal is a yawn fest.

I KNOW! With the casting you'd expect the character to actually have something to go on. Which I'm glad we're getting to the 5th week. We'll have a slight change in gears, which will hopefully help the pour soul (the actress, not the character).

I'll use noonchi now - social savvy, right? We'll spread it to the English speaking world! MWAHAHA! Is that spelled "눈치"?

Correct on spelling of noonchi on both accounts.

If South Koreans import Dork, I'll be set.

I hope the actress gets better material this week...

Whatever her surname... I mean. But even then, I realized that she doesn't have one name, but three.

Somehow I so relate to her on that account. (Since I have two legal names). I'll be bringing back my Korean name when I go back to Korea. =P Maybe put my brother on my register??? Haha. Depends on army service for him, though.

I hope she gets to play a little of a larger role. I liked it when she flipped him the bird. I'd like to see more of that spunk with an expanded role. She's not just a person with an empty head (which is a bit closer translation), she also has spirit.

I am a Nine fan from the Soompi thread. I like your thoughts on the possible outcomes.

*Spoilers for NINE*

However, I think Scenario 3 & 5 will be difficult to explain away. They would need to have a new devise for the time travelling since the current devise is now in 1992.

Scenario 4 as you said is unlikely to happen because fixing the future going forward doesn't fix the problem that the hero dies in the next episode. And not fixing the problem of the hero dying with 12 more episodes to go is a drama suicide. Unless they do a Ghost on us; which was totally off the wall but kept the interest earlier on in the drama. Which would be quite impossible to do here.

Scenario 6? I am not so sure. Did the 2012 SW left a USB in 1992?

Scenario 2 is possible but totally unlikely to me. In any case, there must be some significance on 2 sticks burning instead of one. Having watched QIHM, I believe this writer planned his stories well. The fact of two incense sticks burning if it was planned to be used in the drama, would have some significance to the story line i.e. instead of going 20 years backwards, the finder might go 20 years forward instead (as someone from the Soompi thread predicted). The question is who would this finder be and how can this angle be build into the story line to save the hero. Because I believe the hero has to be saved for the story to continue.

As to Scenario 1, I would link it to my prediction of the new Scenario 2 effect. 1992 SW found the sticks and is transported forward and meets the 2012 SW. 2012 SW tells him everything and when the incense burnt up, 1992 SW goes back in his time. Knowing the future, he would try to prevent his brother from marrying MY's mom and he would seek help early at the hospital to ensure that his illness will be addressed earlier on and prevent his death. And thus the 2012 story could go back to him loving MY with no death in the horizon. JW might still be dead in this reality if things did not work out with MY's mom.

However, a new set of issues will exist. Now, Choi knows there is another person in the room of the "murder" in 1992 from what Mom said to him (in the preview). Putting two and two together, he discovered the "reality" of SW's time travelling and he now maintains two or (three if the new reality has been changed again) memories. What happens next to the revenge?

These are my thoughts. The writer could very well go off to another tangent and that's what makes this drama so cool ... ie dealing with the unexpected.

As to your thoughts on why he refuses medical help, I don't think one could call it a "murder". It's a hard choice to make. Think of it this way. If you have 6 months to live knowing that 3 of that 6 months you can still live normally; versus going for a surgery that you could die tomorrow if the surgery fails or you could extend your life for 2 years if the surgery succeeds, what would your choice be? Would you bet on a chance to live two years longer or nothing at all, or would you bet on a chance to live for the next three months normally and fulfill all your final wishes?

Whatever it is ... I love a drama that makes me think and take me the whole 9 yards on an emotional roller coaster; while maintaining the "realism" of all its main characters. There is not a character here that I hate or am frustrated with. The fact is there is not really any one character that is truly evil because most of the situation happened due to the fact that all the characters have character flaws (which is realistic to me) and the evilest character got to his place not by design but by luck/ opportunity.

You should join us at Soompi since there is a whole thread on Nine. It gets a bit confusing here since the open thread is about everything.

As to your thoughts on why he refuses medical help, I don’t think one could call it a “murder”.

It's murder if you see someone who is dying (i.e. in the plot twist room) <-- coding spoiler. And then you don't help. Especially if you are a doctor, which I assume that Choi is... though I might assume wrong, it's kinda hard to become a director of a hospital without some medical degree.

So I'm sorry I wasn't clear. It's not about his brain tumor thingie.

His younger self will have to take over somehow... but the fact he disappeared on the operating table messes with my head. I still have an impression he went to the past from the preview, unless the director is pulling a Winnie (which I would applaud).

It definitely would be drama death if they cut the time travel aspect and kill the hero. It would be the most misleading casting ever.

Hi Kim Yoonmi, thanks for the clarification. In this case, I agree wholeheartedly with you. However, 2012 SW actually checked the Dad's pulse and I think he figured out that Dad was dead. That's why he left the scene before Choi came in.

Yeah, I think there was a part of the preview where YH said he disappeared. I am not sure if that happened before or after he was declared dead. It's going to be an interesting Monday episode. Wish I understand Korean now. Then I don't have to wait till Tuesday for the subs.

I seriously hope they don't kill the hero. The one time the hero was killed earlier on in a show and it worked for me was Ghost. But that was a whole different drama which was really daebak!

Been thinking about diaries left by time travellers: Eun Soo and Jun Woo. Why didn't this particular diary carry more info?

I wonder... what if older bro finds the hidden incense sticks then uses them? I've been wondering why older bro would hide the incense sticks under a mattress? I figured he hid them because he was going to return to the cabin...but now I'm uncertain. To hide them for himself for further use? To preserve them for his brother to retrieve later? I thought his diary was written to himself but...

Also, that journal from older bro. What was written in it? Sun Woo doesn't seem to have read it all.

Finally, the OT is here! I was going a tad bit crazy waiting for Friday to come because I so wanted to rave about Nine and only Nine. Seriously, how awesome is this show?? Hyung killing the father, the mom being present during the crime, the supposed villain covering the crime, and the possibility of hyung not being blood-related were all unexpected twists upon twists. My heart totally went out to the anguished Sun Woo who realized that having the truth hidden might have been the better thing. Yet despite having been essentially betrayed by his family, he showed an understanding to their situation and instead of going back in time to try to fix things or change them, he decided to leave them.

The preview showed that Sun Woo will die in next episode, a thought that makes me teary-eyed. However, I know this obviously isn't the end of it which makes me excited to know how he will be alive again and how he'll be doing the time-travelling without the sticks. Why the hell does Monday seem so far away??

And how adorable is Doctor Friend in his fidgety, morose, glum way?? He always looks he ages five more years with every new surprise and that just makes me laugh. Comparatively, his wife is spunky and naggy which makes their dynamic so much fun and interesting. Love his two little kids too.

Moving on...still watching Incarnation of Money and Lee Soon Shin (well, I'm mostly fast-forwarding this one and only watching Jun Ho-Soon Shin scenes to fulfill my desire for a rom-com that is sorely lacking these days). TWTWB finally ended but I could care less; also finished marathoning Fugitive Plan B. Now I started Hero for my Lee Jun Ki fix (seriously, what is it about this guy that I can ignore so many flaws in his pre-Sato shows and enjoy them, against my better judgement?? Also, can he please join a drama before I run out of his dramas to watch?).

This part is for Kim Yoomni: Did you see that there's a second Japanese Itazura Na Kiss?? Just saw it on Dramacrazy the other day. I don't know why they're doing a remake but I guess it's better than the original one they had. Anyways, I watched part of the first episode despite fully knowing that I would never like it as I am far too biased towards the Taiwanese version (no amount of remakes in other countries could ever sway my loyalty away from this one, lol). Have to say, although not being a total copycat, it had strong vibes of the Taiwanese version, especially when Kotoko was trying to give Naoki her confession letter and he just walked past her. Totally reminded me of Ariel and Joe similar scene in their 1st episode...in fact, so much so, that I expected Kotoko to fall down like Ariel's character did. Because of that, I started watching ISWAK again, ha.

You should mark your spoilers. ^^ Or at least code them.

There are ways to code spoilers so other people know what you are really talking about who watched the show, but the people who didn't watch it will have no clue.

The above post has Spoilers for Nine... or something like that.

How to code your spoilers 101

=P Not trying to harp on the point or be mean, but I thought a tutorial might help everyone.

You refer to the scene's major event.

For example, in Skip Beat there is the "cabinet scene" which I love to pieces every single last time. This is where the main character goes to the cabinet to get a dish and something major happens which I wish made it into the anime, but made it into the drama version.

Or you refer to the general event without referring to the character.

For Nine, you could say: Did you expect that name change? (People who watched know what you mean, but no one else will know until they watch the show)

For example, for Answer Me 1997, you can say, I figured out in Episode 8 who her husband is by who is holding the cellphone and drinks. (Those who watched it will hate you for saying this, though, since you just spoiled the rest of the drama from your noonchi)

You refer to an event before or after the incident that would be a major spoiler.

The 8 incense stick trip was kinda wasteful.... (for example) 'cause he could have done that in the seventh trip, duncha think? (For Nine)

Like that. Coding spoilers is fun and means the other person has to think through the episode, and if that incident was fun, they'll get it, code it back and you get to celebrate the episode together. When people watch the episode, they can get your spoiler code and share in the coding. =P Kinda makes it more enjoyable for everyone. You get a secret language from watching the episode, and other people aren't angry at you, but can chime in with the "I know!"

Fugitive Plan B-- I think you won't like it so much. It's kinda scattered and was written by the person who wrote Level 7... while not so bad, it still suffers from some writing problems. Oh hi everyone. OT is here early today, even before my midnight.

Just wanted to say guys, finally have time to start School 2013 yesterday but didn't finish episode 1. However needed to read the recap till ep 2 because things got so tense. How in the world did you all stand the suspense every week? It is seriously good, I've never had a 1st episode hook me so fast.

On the other hand, All about my romance is good, I know some people wasn't so impressed by it but the writing is good and the politics accurate. Also for those of you who use viki subs, episode 1 was subbed by a professional who happens to like subbing for viki. The subs for this series should be good as I see some of the strongest subbers there.

Have a nice weekend now. I am off to see more of Nam Soon. His and the teacher's situations stressed me out.

And oh yes, HYI- I say " abandon ship ".

Happy Friday! I'm currently watching the ff:

1. Nine - if you watched the preview for next week's episodes you'll know what'll happen right? Now it's the {somewhat annoying] (step)niece' turn to somehow bring him back...dun dun dun!

2. Lee Soon Shin - hope they'll be bringing in more of the cute for this weekend's episodes.

3. Dad, Where Are You Going? - I'm halfway through ep. 11 and I can't say enough words on how much I luf luf luf Hoo! That's the cutest kid ever. I also finally saw the charms of Junsu and Joon. Plus Min-gook finally stopped crying so far. Ji-ah I love for her one-line setdowns addressed to her dad ("Aigoo! Will you catch anything doing that").

4. Hwasin - I'm replaying episode 4 because that was the funniest, bu Hee-sun's role play in episode 5 is the best!

5. Childless Comfort - subs are slow but I'm still following it even if I still don't get the characters. Besides, I have to solve the mystery why it got such high ratings.

Looking forward to:

1. Gu Family Book - because I love the cast but am iffy about the writer (Man of Honor was unintentionally kinda funny though)

2. The Kim Tae-hee/Yoo Ah-in drama (which title I forgot) - only because I'm looking forward to the colorful hanboks they'll be modeling.

There's some speculation regarding the status of his parents' marriage and all I could say is: Netizens, please get a life! The conclusions some people make based on a few sentences is either amazing or really scary.

@Ace, yeah, pity about all the speculation. But then YMS brings it up a lot as well. He could've stayed quiet and not made cracks about the shotgun wedding, wife leaving on second day of honeymoon etc.

Where he had to explain things to Hoo are different matters.

0

Required fields are marked *

I haven't gotten to that part yet...I just remember that he is young and very cute and quite handy with the boy, and that he mentioned in the intro segments that he knew he was young, but he thought it would be better to be a young dad who could be a friend with his kid. So I thought he got deliberately married and with child. But anyway, he sure seems like a good dad on tv, at least, so here's hoping that's how things are between Hoo and Appa, and that Appa and Eomma work things out. It's one thing to speculate on people dating...entirely another when it's a marriage. Some things are too sacred, you know? Or should be. And when a child is involved?

0

My thoughts on YMS bringing up his wedding/honeymoon experience is that he's teasing his wife (on tv!) as they're quite young when they got married and among the dads he's the youngest, right? On that score, he's a bit immature but I do think that he and his wife are well and good because how else would my little Hoo turn out the way he is if his parents' marriage is on the rocks?

0

Btw, wasn't it funny how in Ep 12, when Min Guk brought Hoo his breakfast, he said "Food," and Hoo woke up?

Meanwhile, if Daesungie is still showing girls he likes them by reverting to kindergarten, he can take those delicious abs and those sexy bow legs and kiss my behind.

I'd rather have skinny boy-man GD with his knowing eyes and the EAR RUBBING omg the ear rubbing I had a boyfriend who loved to do that. I would just automatically take off my earring on whichever side he was parked. Man, 30 years later...I still can feel that. If I didn't love GD before I do now, and I loved him before so imagine how I'm feeling.

GD's a natural born player. One to rival Kim Boong-do. Funny when the guests were asked if the intimate aspect of a relationship is important and they were all just staring at each other and was waiting for someone to say "Yes!" so they could just nod and agree.

Episode 16 recaps is up on DB. I didn't watch the series but the movie. But had to watch ep 16 just to see the ending as well.

All I can say is, man that is one pretty ending scene with the cherry blossoms. Plus those 2 beautiful, beautiful people.

I like this guy. He's down to earth, has a really deep masculine voice, and he's just so wise so easy to talk to and he's really nice. He's super heavy and I guess a bit insecure. He wouldn't pursue me if I don't do anything, but if I did pursue him, I would just appear to be pushy. I've shown hints that I like him, and we're now talking and many times we walked together after work. I think I did something wrong (accidentally shouted at him) that made him not talk to me again. I'm not even sure if I have a chance on him. He built a super high and impenetrable wall. Shoot North Korea's threatening the US. Sorry for trolling I'm just super sad right now. I'm praying for world peace, love, and ice cream, and looking forward to Lee Min Ho's show in October. Weee!

I was looking at the Baeksang award nominees and I was delighted to find good dramas like 'The Chaser' and 'A wife's credentials' were nominated! People hardly talk about them but they are really good!
Still watching 'Cruel palace' ( I wish Heads would recap this as its really good!), At the End of the World ( I wish more subs were available but I appreciate the subbers who took on this project) and Incarnation of Money (why isn't it Saturday?)

Go A Wife's Credentials!! Completely hooked on that show - it's quality in every way and compelling too. I need to watch The Chaser since I've heard such good things about it (wish I'd watched that instead of Faith when it aired last year, sigh).

The End of the World is the best show airing right now imo. I also wish there were more subs available but we are lucky that they exist at all tbh. I wish dramafever would pick up these shows so more people would watch them :'(

HAPPY OT THREAD EVERYONE!!!! Hope everyone is well <3

My beloved Mother is checking my revision so I may not be able to reply that much.
And yes... I have been home for a week now so no drama for once whoot!!
I have to go back in a week however for exams :'(

And my dear Mum is shipping me and hot Korean guy. It's hilarious. She was stalking my facebook and saw a photo of us together and was like 'who's that?'
I went 'oh we used to be really good friends but now we've fallen out'
I've never fallen out with anyone before I feel I should explain.

So I was telling her that there was a guy who I was thinking of dating (Scone guy) and she was like 'well there needs to be some attraction between you. Do you think he's attractive?'
Me: 'He's cute. Atrractive enough.'
Mum: 'So around a 7?'
Me: 'I guess...'
Mum: 'What about your ex-friend? Where would he rank? Higher?' [This was why she was asking haha]
Me: 'Umm... yeah...'
Her: 'About a 9 or 10?'
Me: 'He looks a lot better in real life than he does in the photo.'
Her: 'Oh I could tell he is a very good looking guy'

So yeah... I was laughing basically the whole way though that. Rating guys will never be not hilarious to me.
Anyway how she's doing the whole 'You know most people meet their partners at University.'
Seriously... this has got to be one of the funniest things ever. Anyway I not giving her any clues at all. She thinks the reason we're not dating is due to me haha.

Anyway... as to why we've fallen out (he doesn't know we have yet...) well... I'm not sure I should explain yet... I may have to wait some more. Needless to say I was super super annoyed at him for it.

However it wasn't anything bad he did to me or anything so you don't need to worry about that.
But one of my mutual friends has decided that we should fix our friendship and she's gonna try and make that happen haha. When I explained what happened she was really angry at him but now she thinks he doesn't know what he does. This did make me a bit less annoyed at him... but lets just say he has some serious explaining to do haha.
Anyway... I still think our friendship is beyond salvagable.

Anyway I've spent quite a lot of time thinking about why I'm not dating Scone guy yet and I've realised that there are some serious flaws and stuff that I worry about. I will talk about these to a close friend of ours who says we should date. I should explain these flaws are more down to my unrealistic expectations of relationships and my trazillion emotional barriers than him.

Anyway... that's my current status in life.

Have a good week!!!

And let's hope there are some good dramas soon!!!!!!
Although actually Games of Thrones is back so I don't care that much haha. GAME OF THRONES IS AMAZING <3

Having fun reading some blogs about it on how they think Daenerys is the real villain in the stories and how they're looking forward to Joffrey's death (kudos to the actor playing him because I heard that people see him as Joffrey and he receives so much hate because of the character).

AGOT and Sherlock are the only western tv shows I'm looking forward to every year. Even if the episodes are so few per season (and therefore the wait is the longest), it's still worth it.

As to Hollywood movies this year, so far I've only watched Oz and wished I was 7 years old to really appreciate it even if some lines were lol funny. Rachel Weisz I loved. Looking forward to:

Iron Man 3
Star Trek Into Darkness (Benedict Cumberbatch!)
Man of Steel
Monsters University
The Wolverine
The World's End (Simon Pegg!)
Thor: the Dark Worlds
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (BC again!)

I'm watching the Walking Dead but quality wise it is serverly lacking compared to GOT and Sherlock obviously.

And you have no idea how much I am looking forward too the new Star Trek film!!!! I have always been more of a Star Trek girl than a Star Wars girl ever since I was little. And the first film (well... of the reboot series) was incredible. I hope the second one is as good and keeps a good plot and all without going too actiony...

And yes... Benedict Cumberbatch is always a bonus haha

And The Hobbit... well I think it was a mistake to drag it out into 3 films... but still worth seeing I think.

0

I tried the walking dead but I found it dragging so I stopped after a few episodes (and maybe I was more into Castle, Fringe, and Grimm that time).

I love the first Star Trek reboot! I converted my file of that so I could watch it on my mobile device anytime, anywhere. I love it more than any other Star Wars film.

I thought The Hobbit would just be two parts, but I kinda trust Peter Jackson so I'm okay with three parts. I only wished that they're showing it like every six months so the wait wouldn't be that long. Also, I wished they did a few more parts for LOTR since there were a lot of good things from the book that was left out. LOTR:RotK is still on my top10 all time favorites. I remember when I watched its midnight premiere when most of the moviegoers were cheering on the bromance of Sam and Frodo. That, HP7.2, and The Avengers were the only 3 films I watched where the audience gave a standing ovation afterwards. ;)

0

Oh yeah, I'm also waiting for an episode of The Big Bang Theory where they will discuss the Star Trek reboot (the nerd in me could relate when they're discussing science stuff, comics, and sci-fi films.) I couldn't care less anymore about the romance in TBBT, I'm in it only for Sheldon!

0

Sherlock is so awesome. My westerns are Warehouse 13, Sherlock, Haven and Bunheads. I watched scandal but the otp lacks chemistry and it's not legal enough for me. Oh has anyone seen monday mornings? I love that one too. It's a david e. kelly show. Someone commented it's on par with house but I say it's better. The actor playing Dr. Park ( Shim Kong) looks a lot like Jung Gyu Woon.

0

He does make a brilliant Joffery. Oh, I have to start this! I need a good torrent site.

Not Dany!!! She's the candidate I'm rooting for in the race for the Iron Throne, I like her journey from innocent girl to Khaleesi so far. Although if her dragons manage to grow up to adult size, the balance is unfairly skewed in her favour. This show reminds me that no, female characters are not only meant to compliment the male heroes (*shakes fist at some kdramas*). I like cunning Margery, seems like a worthy rival for Cersei, and missed sorely Arya, hope she'll make an appearance in the next episode.

Well, there are good stuff that'll happen hopefully in this season so Dany wouldn't have so much advantage. looking forward to her journey the most and her baby dragons. I'm all for her annihilating her enemies and all who oppose her. She's an interesting character wherein I'm not really sure if at the end she'll turn out to be the villain some accuse her of being.

yay fellow game of thrones fans!! I started watching this series last week (been debating whether to watch GOT or walking dead)... and NOW i've finally caught up to season 3 :) Goodness this series is so very interesting!! I somehow wish Daenerys and Robb Stark will meet, marry and rule the kingdom together since they both have kind hearts!! but thats probably never gonna happen... and i wish there will be more scenes about whats happening at the WALL.. and having the people of the South finally realizing there are much more crazy shit out there than their insane political battle. I also hope there will be more scenes with Arya... and oh man that guy Jacqen? the one that saved her is very intriguing! how the heck he killed and changed faces!!

I'm glad I've started after two seasons have finished so i got to marathon the series through the night without stopping but now i gotta wait weekly. The things i dislike about Western dramas is that the wait for every season is SO LONG!!! usually by the time the series returns i've forgotten half the plot..

Oh and forgot to introduce myself to the lovely DramaBeans family! HELLO EVERYONE !! Nice to meet you all !

I've been reading the recaps of various dramas recently since none of the ones now-airing were intriguing enough for me to start watching..
Currently, i'm on a variety craze, watching RunningMan, Dad, Where are you going?, KpopStar2, Korea Master Chef, ID2N :D

P.S sorry for riding on your comment ><

Really? Tori doesn't like to answer questions but she does offer up information sometimes...and eventually, I think she tells me quite a lot. Certainly she tells me things that her friends would not tell their own mothers, and often it's stuff I'd really rather not know even if it's way after the fact, but I would never say that, and I don't actually say much at all when she does tell me things. That's a quick way to shut her right down! I'd rather she share whatever she wants to share and just deal with sadness or anger or incredulity or fear on my own then make her feel it's not worth telling me, or that I hate knowing some of it. Sometimes, if it's feeling right, I might offer up a suggestion after she tells me stuff. But not always. I'm really just interested in keeping that line open. It's hard to be a Mom, Leaf. You can probably trust her with more than you realize, though.

Looking back on my life, I was insensitive or oblivious at times without having a clue I was doing it.

In one example, I met Thorfinn tall, dark, strong from a SCA's household so he knew how wield weapons and measure me for a bodice (sigh) plus an IT genius. He was a player and told me right up front we could never be together since I believed in monogamy and marriage and he did not. Still, we had a memorable summer together and I adored him and considered him my best friend for years. At one point, I even lived with him.

Years later, he confessed that he had been in love with me. Never told me, silly fool. Only man I loved without ever being officially in a relationship with, and to this day still love him in part of my heart.

So while I was believing Thorfinn's words that we should never be together, I ended up dating other men to try to get over my attraction to Thorfinn. Only later did I realize how insensitive that was ... oh if only we'd had an honest discussion! But dramas live for their miscommunications don't they?

NINE!!! Omo, omo, how could anyone not watch this show now?! Once it's finished, spoilers will be all over the net and harm the pleasure watching it. (Am I the only one who actually likes the female lead? She is really cute. And not in a 'I Need Romance' *cute* way, which is good in my book!)

TWTWB - Really enjoyed watching. Logic loops aside (Secretary Wang. Really?!). Loved the cast (Moo Chul!) and JIS suddenly became an actor to me. Still no fan of Song Hye Kyo though. As much as I despise the Korean way to end a series (unnecessary suspense, red herrings, everybody dies etc.) I could live with this episode. Much better than Nice Guy, My Princess or My Sweet Seoul.
Read lots of 'close up' bashing throughout the net, but I must confess my shallow self enjoyed watching the pretty so close. (The show must have been very stressful to shoot. JIS lost several pounds compared to the first episodes. And he certainly never was chubby to begin with.)

Well, I missed you. At least I'm missing my dramas. I try to keep watching a little from time to time, tho is not the same But I know I shouldn't be complaining, when I'm enjoying the Cherry Blossom season in Japan. I'll leave Kyoto tomorrow, and I haven't seen it all. What it's a perect excuse to come back later on. ;)
After a month and a half traveling, I can say that so far so good. But traveling is hard, and I need a place to call home and relax.
I have started to plan my first stay in South Korea, I'll get there mid May. Now I'm looking for someone to host me during my first week in Seoul. After that Jeju and all the south of the peninsula. I already found some places to work/stay over there.
Okay, it's 11pm on this side of the planet and I had a lot of thing to work on. Not sure if I'll be able to check back later. I hope you all doing well in RL, and enjoying the dramas. Are they any good this season. I'll have a lot of catch up to do later.

Hello Everyone, Friday Mubarik! (Happy Friday or congrats, it's Friday!)

Korean history question from Cruel Palace, which, btw, so far I like: in episode 3, as the scholar comes to visit the captive prince and sees the sale of Joseon women, the narrator says this sale of Korean women, especially aristo class, created "hwan hyun nyuhs." What does that mean?

Also, earlier this week as I was thinking about TOP as one does, I remembered we once in an OT talked about his lack of acting expression. Actually, in the movie I9, he does really well. Seungri too. Think I fell in love with both there.

Last week, I thought I'd read a book. Well, I forgot. But I did get back to at least skimming the Economist, and starting to look at job listings, etc. (I have a job, yes, but I want to move on and need to focus again on that.)

Appa Oediga!!! I'm obsessed! I even forgot about GOt! Hoo Baby is daebak as usual, and Joon is my second love. And anyone else think Joon would make the perfect husband? He cooks, cleans, grocery shops, rocks sweet sweet style, and packs well. And all because his Appa, Sung Dong Il, aka Evil Ajusshi, is a bit lazy.

Speaking of my obsession with younger men, I even made a new Pinterest page: Call Me Noona.

I also came across another kid variety show, an old one called Good Daddy, but found the concept of 5 men under one roof with a little girl rather creepy.

Other than Incarnation of Money and Hundred Years (I know, but insipid perfect victim main heroine aside, I like the crazy new DIL, JR, the boy bander cousin and all the other crazies.), I can't think what else I'm really watching regularly. I thought of xxxHolic, but didn't like ep 3, so forgot about ep 4. Lee Soon Shin is way behind on Dramafever, and not even started on Viki, and it's a pain to watch gooddrama or ep drama or dramacrazy on my iPad (need penguin browser and its annoying to use), so I forget about it. I might try Fight. In fact, I think I probably will...

Saw Blind last night. Good, but not really satisfying.

Almost watched Hearty Paws until I realized I would be sobbing all the way through it. So, no.

I also started The Company Man, but left off. Did download So Ji Sub's mini album, though.

Kept re-watching Appa Oediga, lots of Block B stuff on YouTube, Simon & Martina (Spudgy, how do I love thee?) and spent lots of time on Soompi's DWAYG forum, as well as various blogs writing about same, and on Pinterest looking up Woobie My Wuv (hence, the Call Me Noona page, to separate other cute guys from him) as well as, you guessed, Hoo and Joon.

So that's it and will check back later!

"Nyeo" is woman...

Hwan Hyeon doesn't show up in the Korean dictionary.

Hwa is a flower... but I doubt that's what you mean.

환현???

I need the hangeul... or a more accurate romanization, since "u" can represent:
oo sound. 우
eo sound. 어
eu sound. 으

I tend to like revised with a mod on the oo sound being represented by an "o" and changing it to "oo". Makes it a whole lot less confusing and revised tends to be a more accurate representation of Korean v. McCune and Yale.

I think it might be 환향 녀, which is hwan-hyang nyeo, which, might be something like "woman returning home' and means prostitute.
Disclaimer:
This is all based on digging around on google, etc, so it might not be right, and I am not korean, and I don't speak korean either

so 'prostitute' was a poor word choice on my part - it seems that it's more of a 'comfort woman' thing - women were taken as spoils of war, and when they eventually returned, there were social issues because, having been comfort women, they no longer had their original status. Something like that.
There's some information in english here:

This show is the only one I'm watching although I'm looking forward to "All about my Romance" for a good balance. Lee Duk Hwa will raise my blood pressure cause I totally hate his character from the get go and Shin Ha-kyun will do the opposite.

The writers are playing around so much with out expectations that right now I'm at a loss. I thought they would have nine time travels for our hero but now it could be anything from 1 person using the remaining incense or one set of nine for someone else. I'm not sure if we find out who the initial incense makers are. Surely, there might be more...somewhere. Hyung had nine remaining and Sun Woo found those. But is it possible that older bro had more than nine in the beginning?

It'll take a lot for heroine to believe/understand what's gone on then to go back and fix matters.

The mind reels with possibilities and complications! So i will not hazard a guess.

In 'Kamen Rider Den-O', some people were 'Junction Points' that remain fixed even if the time line is disrupted. I sort of wondered if Dr Han is one of those fixed points. I think Dr Han has more of a part to play in the story than just being the supportive friend whose brain is exploding trying to wrap his mind around time travel.

We all, after all. are time travelers the slow way, one day at a time. Dr Han learned about time travel, and that seemed to make him able to retain memories.

SW took a 2012 card to 1992 and gave it to him, making a connection from today to yesterday to today.

NOTE the page/beeper went from the past to 2012 and back to 1992
and now the young SW is connected to all time lines.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Not only did TWTWB have it's finale this week, Queen of Ambition did as well. And QofA had a true WTF final episode. Not as bad as Fashion King, but the plot just unraveled.

So...comparatively speaking, TWTWB's ending was...satisfying. Even if there were holes in the logic.

I need to catch up on Nine, I'm now two weeks behind.

Started Lee Soon Shin which is only up to episode 4 on the ipad version of DF. So far, I'm liking it a lot.

I'm a week behind on Substitute Princess. Doesn't sound like many people are very happy with the plot right now.

Still watching Hundred Years Inheritance, although I admit to fast-forwading through many of the recent episodes.

Hi all:

Loving Incarnation of Money...waiting to see how Jae In will play Mr Avenger.

Loving Nine a lot but wow..what's with the last incense stick? I'm even wondering if his brother picked it up. Kind of like a Borgesian Garden of Forking Paths. Heaven knows where all this will end or where it began. And I'm still thinking Sun Woo's old girlfriend was probably his wife on another timeline before his brother messed stuff up. Ah, the mind reels with questions and anticipation. And I keep getting this unsettling feeling that Dr Han is gonna lose his daughters and his naggy wife.

Liking End of the World. Slow but good, realistic..with a docudrama feel.

Liking Gu Am Heo Joon -- it's like coming back home everyday to one's daily meal. Just kinda habit-forming.

Watching Kogure Photo Studio. So far it's okay. Cute kid.
Watching xxHolic. Good

Have to catch up on Mahoro, Cruel Palace War of Flowers

Waiting for Heirs, Ok Jang, Mandate of Heaven, and Gu Am Family Book.

In the middle of two or three movies: Confession of Murder (Park Shi Hoo is soooooooooo gorgeous in it) Visitors (which takes much patience to watch) and a few other stuff.

Waiting to see how Queen of Ambition ends. Gotta catch up on Shotenin (Life of Michiru the bookstore clerk)

Happy that a new batch of anime have popped up but still haven't gotten around to any of them.

Waiting for Otome-san subs to come in.
Waiting for Ooka: Echizen

Happy weekend, all.

My friend Kacy posted on Facebook "Is it today yet?"
One person answered "Yes"
Kacy: "Good"
Another answered "No"
Kacy: "Even Better"
I answered "Since watching '9' I am not sure anymore"

Time travel dramas, if well written, totally transport me.

I could almost have been content if the drama had ended at episode 6 with him collapsing and dying. Very "punish you for thinking you can change time". Would be shocking, since so many time traveling dramas end with everything is fixed happily ever after, and I could swallow a darker interpretation here.

I have no clear idea where this drama is going, but a drama without the time traveling sticks? Oh, thank you for shaking me up! No formula episodes that get boring here.

0

Required fields are marked *

I wrote a time travel short story and didn't know where it was going until it ended. Toward the end, when I saw what the ending was going to be I was sorta upset because it wasn't going to be a happy ending. But it was the only logical and true ending that would come from me and my way of thinking. From my own essence.

So there is the "punish you for thinking you can change time" ending. But I think that is more the Dr Jin school. And there's the Nobunaga/Ken "Little old me...I really won't affect time." which is just ridiculous. And there is the "How unimportant are little things!" kinda time story, which I think shows up in this one. And this is why it's so worrying because we do so many unimportant little things that are so far-reaching...and everyone's life is so intertwined, in even the smallest things.

Interesting what you said earlier about Kamen Rider and those Fixed Juncture people. Maybe it's true about Dr Han.

0

Until '9', I had never thought how difficult it would be to know time could change and yet have no control over those changes. I sort of expected Dr Han to try to steal the sticks. I think that is why the sticks were left in the past.

Or maybe Choi would want to steal the sticks. I mean, if you learn that time traveling sticks are real, who wouldn't want to use them (even with the side effects).

0

hmmm, what about a choose your own ending drama time travel ?

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Oh, it would be soo fun and dark if Dr Choi had found the sticks! Not sure if the writers would go there..but wow!

First our hero discovers he didn't know a particular truth. That's bad enough. Realizing you're in the dark about a birth secret or whatever.

I'm thinking the next thing he'll discover is that he's not in control of his own life. That his brother changed his timeline and he isn't even sure of what his own life woulda shoulda coulda been.

Good Morning My Wondrous Beans!

What a week! Craziness at work – why must EVERYTHING be a problem at the same time, or NOTHING? And then finale after finale after finale here, in Beaniverse, and I wasn’t even EXPECTING that.

I’m behind on IRISII and YTBLSS. Nine hurt my heart this week. A Korean Media Outlet tweeted the ENDING to Queen of Ambition in their teaser to the article about the ending, so I was spoiled rather violently in the middle of Ep 22 and immediately stopped watching because let’s face it, by that point I really just wanted to know two things: body count, and that the bitch was dead

That Winter, the Ending Blows. I mean, it did, but not entirely. I got what I wanted for my dear sweet Oh Soo, but the path to get there was choppy, poorly edited, full of holes and randomly discarded plot threads, and a completely bipolar Youngie. Seriously. WHY do dramas waste SO MUCH TIME in the middle and then rush perfectly good endings so much that they look ridiculous? TIME MANAGEMENT, PEOPLE. Time Management. It is your friend. Embrace it.

That’s all I watched that was Korean. I’m waiting impatiently for subs for RMPW Special, and I want to throw rocks at the ending of Walking Dead because they took an entire season of awesome and decided to end it with an episode comprised of 10 minutes of coolness and another 35 of deadly dullness. Seriously. The Prison is now both an Assisted Living Facility AND a Daycare, the Governor is in the wind, and we NEVER got our Zombie Lori. Oh and Karl might just be turning into a psychopath.

I did discover a new series on American TV called Revolution and devoured all available episodes (1st half of season 1) over the past week. The 2d half of the season is airing now. I’ll keep you posted. Me really likey. Ok that’s it, I guess –

AHH how could I forget! I saw Episode 1 of When A Man is Really Hot and I Would Forgive Him Anything, but Turns Out I May Not Need To. I know it’s early days but there was a little bit of acting, actual acting, thrown in there with the abs and the hotness and the angst. I had a lot of fun watching the first episode. He’s a gangster don’t-wannabe, and there’s funny and sweet and plenty of opportunities to both be interested in what happens AND mock, because let’s face it: Mocking Makes Life Better. Ok now that’s it. Next week I will OT from NYC, after hanging out with DB. (eeeeeeeeeee!)

it's like the bully who excuses their behavior with 'I was just PLAYING with you' and tries to make it your fault that you didn't 'get the joke'.

I liked it, I really did.

My quibble #1: why did people keep letting her get AWAY with that shit? She was opportunistic, not a deep plotter - it would have been easy to stop her at so many points and people just rolled over and - in some cases literally - died. I would have liked the middle to have been edited more tightly with less repetition of that.

My quibble #2: Ha Ryu pretending to be a lawyer for more than 2 days without getting caught.

Saw the ending.... and it was good although...the need to humanize her was annoying. No matter how much you suffer, it's not excusable to be murderous. Korean dramas always have to push the forgiveness/understanding of the baddie stuff and this time it was...very eye-rolling.

So I looked into it and while the idea of electricity suddenly just STOPPING and not restarting is there, there don't seem to be very close similarities otherwise. No clans, no shared characters, gunpowder definitely works, etc.

In a random bout of coincidence, I have his OTHER series going - the one where Nantucket goes back in time. Picked it up mainly for the Eagle. My grandfather's last assignment was Chief Warrant on the Eagle, I live two towns from the Academy, I used to be able to see the Eagle from my office window before we moved to the other side of the river, and the current crop of cadets includes a few kids I've known for years and years.

Happy Friday, OT!

I've been watching Arang and the Magistrate as "filler" -- I started watching it before Easter with that intention. I gotta say though, its some awesome sauce. I don't know why I dismissed it when it was being broadcast...perhaps lack of time? I try to only be involved with one show at a time, so that's probably it.

On Weds. my friend I went to a local neurabang. First time ever, I also had Chachangmyun for the first time that day. I am terrible at k-pop songs. Man I need more practice. But not to pay for, oh no, not to pay.

It was a good night. My friend and I needed to do something different. Bars, concerts, and movies having grown a bit tedious for a night out. The best quote from the night was "Play some Korean song, I'm tired."
I thought that was pretty funny.

Because of zgznoona, I'm getting back into my Jdroamas, especially anything with anyone Arashi...hehe.

I'll keep my expectations low for Gu Family Book. I dont think it'll be as good as Arang since this is the main leads first sageuk but it looks entertainning enough.

Hello, the World of k-dramas ;) I'm here again :).

I don't really watch much nowadays. I started You're the Best Lee Soon Shin, mainly because of the recaps there (and I already know the story from them, so...). But it still looks nice.

I also continue to watch A Hundred Years Inheritance, as I want to see the main pair finally feeling some love to each other. But the writer must have thought, it's the ridiculous relationship between Evil MIL and the new wife, or the ridiculous misunderstanding with our heroine, that are more interesting to us, viewers, than just simple budding love scenes. And what happened to that intelligent hero, who was sensible enough to figure out the evilness of that bad family and suddenly is as stereotypically stupid chebol as in any other k-drama of this genre..? Eh...

As for my life, I have to disappoint you. No, I didn't finish that course paper that I had to. Instead, I was confirmed that I got into the Student exchange Program and got into Germany (and the time for the Course paper was automatically extended). Now I'm waiting my card to register to the library and start writing it again, but that's not that much of the priority for me now. Everything is new here, the lectures have just started (and not all of them), and I am excited for my 4 months :)

Well, I am here already 2 weeks :) It was my first trip to the foreign country (and alone), so It was something big for me (I used car, bus (through all the night), metro and train (which suddenly had to be changed into another), and my knowledge of is very basic). But now I feel like I'm here for ages (I even unconsciously asked my new friend something in Lithuanian - that's how I'm used to this now). :)

0

oooh, eat brotchen for me! too bad you will not be there for the whole wine fest season, but go if you can to some and drink wine if you drink but definitely eat schwenkbraten - that is if you eat pork?

I lived near the Mosel river and they had such great fests, I particularly liked the one in Zell, and Black Cat Winery was my favorite anyway.

Ahhh, I loved Germany.

You don't live there anymore? I'm living in a small town, so I don't think they will have any big fests :D But I would like to taste some good wine (any recommendations?) :D

0

They are all small towns, and some fests are still big, but even small ones are great!

No, I left Germany at the end of 91. I lived on the western border, about 45 minutes in. The area is called the Hunsruck which describes the ridge of low hills making up the terrain as being similar to the ridge of spine on the back of a hound. It was lovely, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was not far from Trier, Koblenz, Frankfurt, BernKastel-Kues, the Mosel River, you name it. Plenty to see and do! I did also spend 7 weeks in Munich, and that also was a wonderful time.

What part of the country are you in? Near any big cities?

0

It's Greifswald (in eastern Germany). We already had some closer trips around (e.g. Stralsund), and I'm thinking about joining the ones to Berlin and Rostock. But the weather is not nice these days; during our earlier trip it was just freezing cold. I even had to buy some winter clothes:).
A little disadvantage there is my language barrier. My flatmates talk in German between themselves, so it's good that there is a group of exchange students - at least I'm not alone. But despite language, I noticed that people are very nice so far: helpful, polite, friendly. I hope it will continue. :)
I really want to get the most of this journey, but before going abroad I hadn't really searched what is typical for Germans or what should I most definitely see/try.

0

Welcome to my country. :)
Enjoy your stay and hopefully before you'll leave you'll see the sun at least once and remember what warmth is. ;) Very untypical spring this year!

So, you are in Greifswald, one of the 'new' (ha! 20 years already - unbelievable) federal states? If you like to canoe or are willing to try, check out the area around Lake Müritz. It is soooo beautiful! You'll be able to do day trips or go for a week. Anything is possible. It is very similar to Scandinavia over there.

But don't get stuck in the East. Visit the big cities in the West like Cologne or Aachen. Big parts of those cities were bombed during WWII, but there is still enough left of the old parts. Especially Aachen, where I used to live for 10 years. It is just wonderful and very close to The Netherlands and Belgium. It is a city with a very well-known university, so there are lots of (international) young ppl around.
And take your time. Life in Germany is much slower than e.g. the States. Relax and enjoy.

About a wine recommendation. You'll have to try them ALL by yourself. :D ;) Check out the wine makers, Winzer, during a trip to the Rhein or the Mosel. The really good ones are not available at the supermarket. You should visit a wine testing, Weinprobe.

Another wonderful part of Germany is the Saarland. Close to Luxemburg and France. You get a feeling for the French way of living over there!
So much to see!

Last but not least, go to one of the isles in the Nordsee. The Wattenmeer, Wadden Sea, is a World Heritage. The islands are small, some with only one little town and without cars. Our favorite retreat for a small autumn vacation is Wangerooge. Nothing to do but sleep, read, enjoy nature, watch birds and the tides, drink tea with rum and eat lots of fresh fish. Heaven!

Well, no, it doesn't really stop him. But at least his new wife is not used as another tool to give pain to the heroine (at least for now). She has her own problems and Evil MIL on her shoulders now. I usually skip these parts so I don't know much. There are so many insignificant events going on: despite these weddings, there were another (of other pair of course), and there are plans for the third one (which won't happen, I suppose). And lots of uncleared misunderstandings... Sad, really.

Happy OT Beanies!

I think I scared away some people from watching Mother last week, which wasn't my intention at all. lol. I do think that it's not for everyone, but if you like humanity and realism, this drama is a good one. And even though the topic is about child abuse, the child abuse itself is more like a backdrop of the story [and it was shown/implied only on episode 1]. The drama focuses more on the family relationship. Be it those related by blood or not. And since it's trying to be as realistic as possible **POTENTIAL SPOILER**, you get a sense that it can only have bittersweet ending at the best **END SPOILER** which is why it's so heart-wrenching to watch [at least for me]. But nevertheless, it's a thought-provoking, well-acted, and well-written drama.

Anyway, I'm not watching any K-dramas at the moment, I know I should try to pick up Nine one of these days. But I just kept forgetting about it... :(

J-dramas - I'm up to episode 5 of Tonbi! So much heart on this one! I loved the kid who acts as the youngest version of Akira the most. It really amazed me how these little children can act at sucha young age! And totally agree with a statement I read last week, I can laugh so hard and also cry as much (crying in a good way, btw) when watching Tonbi. So thank you for recommending, alua! I hope I'll be able to finish it by next week.

Watched Grave of The Fireflies during the weekend. I did something stupid that I think spoiled the whole story. I watched the live action first in gooddrama, but I didn't notice that I started from part 2 [because they have different playlist], and I was like wow things got bad really fast! It's not until I got to the end that I realized that I started from middle rather than the beginning. I then watched the animated version, but despite knowing what's going to happen, I actually found it more heart-breaking than the live-action. Maybe because I think the animated version of the siblings are cuter [it is an animation, so they bound to be cuter] and also because the setting also looks grimmer compared to the live action that they tug my heart way more than the live action when things turn really bad...

R: Grave of the fireflies: Cannot, cannot, cannot watch this although it's been recommended so many times. I'm more of a "kids have horrible times then kid gets out of happily in the end" kind of viewer. Stuff like Blind Mountain or 11th Mother or even Hansel and Gretel. The last time i watched a movie with children with a sad ending was Nobody knows....and I asked myself, "Why the heck did i watch it when they said it was a true story?"

So true or not, if it's sad at the end...am not gonna be able to do it.

Sorry for the late response, I've had friends visiting this week and couldn't check into the OT (also means I haven't watched anything this week dramawise).

So glad you are enjoying Tonbi, it's one that really gets to your heart.

Re: Grave of the Fireflies .... (still haven't watched it, soon!) Roger Ebert, who sadly died a few days ago, considered it "an emotional experience so powerful that it forces a rethinking of animation" and that it was, animated or not, one of the "greatest war films ever made".

I did! I did! I did.
I am actually thinking of mini capping it.

The problem is that while I really think I will enjoy it, it doesn't mean it is all good, and it doesn't mean it isn't immensely mockable.
If you go into writing something straight, and try to avoid the mocking, you get stilted. But if you go for it, the mocking seems to outplay the serious drama critiquing. Mostly because it is so much fun to do.

I don't mean mocking the acting, which is fine, but the unbelievable amounts of PPL (product placement), and the packaging of SSH's beauty are astounding.

I would like a dollar/won total up in the corner as they roll by: cars, watches, juice, coffee machines, spas (I couldn't see the brand name because THT was in it in all his awesomeness, as in sans Speedo, camping gear, jewelry, handbags. Even wind power:(see: http://tinyurl.com/ctbnco8)

SSH can play sympathetic very convincingly, it's all in his beautiful hurt look eyes. It's just the angry times he loses his appeal. Too much head tilt. And Oppa should step away from the fight scenes. He's got a great build, but he's past that now.

SSK, well, she cries nice, and OMG the dance scene with her little Bro JB was endearing.

Anyway, I'll be in it to the end, no matter what the script does to us.

Hey Guise, I can finally happily say I am out of my dramafunk officially! Yay!!!

Is anyone watching the crack that is Substitute Princess/Standin Princess/King Flower! I know the premise is kind of crazy but it is so addicting!! And really want Terry and DaHua to be together. Chris Wu is doing a really awesome job!! Its funny because in Autumn's concerto I firmly on the Vaness Wu train and didn't find Chris Wu to be attractive, engaging etc but whoah can he act (and that smile!!) What is alarming is that apparently Terry and DaHua are not the OTP!!! Which makes no sense, but i can see how from a storyline wise it does make sense. I have seen the outcry regarding the previews on how his character seems all of a sudden become the cliche douchey 2nd lead. Really hoping that doesn't happen!!

Also watching Incarnation of Money, and really enjoying it! Revenge is so sweet! Lee Se Kwang is so evil! Can't wait till he finally goes down.

Also watching and Loving Nine!! That show is not predictable at all!! Totally did not see the whole leaving the incense in the past thing coming. Excited to see where they take it in the future!

Also started Lee SooShin and really enjoying it. (Up to episode 4) I actually think IU is doing a fine job as the lead and I think its pretty big stretch to call her ugly though, i think if they just made her out to be a regular girl, or plain jane that would be more believable. I really don't get when dramas do that...Its also really interesting for me to see Yoo In Na play this type of character. Though she was a bit of a bitch in Best Love in my mind I remember for her bubbly likable characters. I am interested to see where they go with her character. Hoping to catch up but have been watching on DF.com so.....

All in all its nice to be excited about dramas again! Hope everyone has a excellent weekend.

Lee Soon-shin: I agree about calling IU ugly, but what are you going to do, eh? They do it in everyshow with a "mediocre" lead.

I actually am really interested in Yoo In-nah's character. From the second she was on screen you could see just a buttload of insecurity masked by her barbed tongue. She is cruel, very cruel, and the girl needs to grow up, but she's an interesting character. And we see why she's the way she is. But her parents shoulda stepped in and also, y'know, paid attention to her. A capable child doesn't require any less TLC.

I love the sexy, but cranky, baker in that show, Jin-wook. Yummy. Hehe. Get on that Hye-shin!

And I'm waiting for my JJS to sing...when? He's great as Joon-ho, bumbling, insecure, looking for some approval from SOMEWHERE. His dad is a jerk, his mom is a wimp, his ex girlfriend steps on him for fun. His secretary sucks up to him.

Speaking of the ex, Yeon-ah. I hate her more than Yoo-shin. She hurts him and then smirks about it. She is worthless.

Mi-ryeong is boring and annoying. I want the mentor relationship already. I don't care about the sad mommy routine.

I'm enjoying the show. But I'm glad it's finally getting to the meat and potatoes of the promised main plotline.

@LoveBug: I'm watching Substitute Princess and just watched Autumn's Concerto to get more of Terry.

Substitute Princess is a mixed bag for me. I wait for it each week. Yet I have moments when I am screaming at the writers. The whole drop a fiancée off a cliff and not let Terry see her felt wrong, and I am glad that got resolved. But I would have written the story to use the two female characters as a contrast that ends up clarifying for Terry who he really loved.

We didn't get to really see what the pampered rich girl was like once she got away from over protective Dad (and quite frankly over protective Terry). I had this whole storyline in my head where Doc was covering for her so she could go out and explore her wilder side ... get some real life lessons, maybe end up falling for Guan Jun. I thought there was a lot more to her than the soft-spoken, always behaving perfect daughter.

I also just have a hard time when two people are obviously in love at the start of a drama and the Drama Gods pull them apart. So it was harder to accept a Da Hau/Terry match because I was so on board with Liang Yan/Terry.

I thought from the beginning that Guan Jun/Da Hau was the OTP, and I didn't like either of their characters originally, but they have been growing into more mature, responsible adults so as Substitute Princess progresses, I like them more. Me, personally, would go for Terry in a heartbeat ... and I have to be sort of glad Da Hua won't end up with him as I don't think she is a good match for him. Da Hua is a sweatpants & fast food girl at heart, let her stay that way.

I do like that it explores the theme how much does your appearance affect how the world treats you.

Hello OT! Happy Friday!

I did it everyone. I joined a gym. Unless I want to waste money, I will be joining Lee Soon-shin and working out! *gulp*

I have not been watching anything airing save Lee Soon-shin. My sister and I are working on Family's Honor. LOVE the "Lee" family. So adorable.

I'm looking forward to the Puppy being back on screen and Suzy has been stepping up her acting lately, so I'm not fearing her appearance.

JB- you posted Lee Hi! Hehe. I did it. I jumped onto the kpop bandwagon guys. I swore I wouldn't because I already have too many interests and I never know what to pick, but I have been a youtube surfeer and waking up late for work.

This Lee Hi video is cute. I like the blues flava. I've always loved the blues. Her husky voice is nice and she sits so nicely in her lower register. I wish the song really made better use of her voice. They made great use of her dance team though...I was surprised they kept the song in such a limited register and only had a few mellistmatic parts for her to show off her prowess. I guess youtube will show off what she can actually do.

I'm keeping an eye on 15&. SO awesome! And I'm a Hyorin fan now. Hehe.

And then I'm getting into the indie scene with 10cm (well, always liked them) and J. Rabbit. LOVE J. Rabbit. They're pure music and fun.

Ok...off to use that gym membership...after I read you guyses comments...does that mean I'll never go?

Hey everyone! I started Nine this, and quite like it - not LOVE it - it looks really well-shot and tightly plotted so far, but I'm not sold on the OTP AT ALL. Especially her aegyo-ed up mannerisms and to a lesser degree, her terrible (TERRIBLE!) hair. Like, who past the age of 12 has hair like that? Are they trying to make the actress look younger and don't mind making her look ugly in the process? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

Have yet to watch the finale of That Winter, but I'll get to that over the weekend (fingers crossed for a little Jin-sung/Hee-sun cuteness, as everyone knows by now, they are my bias lol).....and also started You're The Best, Lee Soon-shin, which IU is quite good in - see, idols CAN be non-terrible at acting, it's a shame the crazy fans of the bad ones will fight you to the death with 'but they're not THAT bad!!!' and 'they're good on variety shows!' rather than just admit that they're not great at it and you just like their looks/idol career. I think Lee Mi-sook is joining the ranks of my favourite actresses in kdramaland - how she plays characters as different as she was in Can We Get Married, Love Rain and now this, it boggles my mind. Is she like the Meryl Streep of Korea or something?

xxxHolic continues to blow me away, though I did not predict the end of episode 5, they're clearly veering from the manga a bit, plot-wise (they have to, there's no way they'd accommodate the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles crossover) but again, it's just so good. I refuse to watch it late at night though, because it is SCARY even when I know how each episode's storyline will turn out.

I'm afraid I don't agree, Carole, some actresses can pull off that I'm-so-crazy-about-you thing (see: Jung So-min in Playful Kiss) but this one is not one of them. This is definitely one of those OTPs where I'm just barely tolerating one half of it :/

Playful kiss was fun but gosh... Kim Hyun Joong's character! That was more enslavement than love.

I will admit that although I can ride on the OTP relationship, that Sun Woo and our heroine seem like a perfect Uncle and Niece relationship.

Weirdly i get this feeling that the writers might do something perverse like show us that his true love and FIRST OTP was actually the first girlfriend. That would be a trip! Cause then we would realize we were deluded about the proper state of things at the very start. Would be soooooooooo neat to rise out of this present timeline into the "real" one and for the viewer to be the only ones who kinda remember certain things. (well, along with Dr Han.)

Hi OT-ers!

I'm loving Nine right now. Anyone not watching it yet, go check it out now! I think it's the best time travel kdrama made so far. They're exploring the concept as much as they can that it went beyond my imagination. Very clever and unpredictable. One thing that I've been wondering though..

*Warning Spoiler Ahead*
Since the brother came back and seems like he didn't know about the incense stick (which means that he didn't go to get the stick) why does SW still have it?

Anyway, I also enjoy watching Substitute Princess/ King of Flower. It became addicting after episode 6/7. But I put the drama on hold now after reading Koala's latest recap. Will decide to continue if the drama becomes good again.

Looking forward to Gu Family Secret this Monday. Really hope that it'll turn out good. They just released the poster shooting bts where Seunggi and Suzy just look so close and adorable together. Suzy seems too happy to be hugging Seunggi LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArcAq7uOZNw

SPOILER NINE
Ah that IS the question. How are we gonna get through 12 more episodes with no sticks?
I am glad you brought up the brother because it seems like SW referred to it by saying "You come back from being a dead man." or something like that.
I may have missed the translation...Although I think it is possible that during his rant on the phone to him, he just spewed out ALL of his disappointments- some of which JW understood, some not.

I got the feeling that when Sun Woo was losing it to big bro on the phone that he was inadvertently planting seeds in big bro's head. Not sure how Big Bro's life will have changed from seeing some guy disappear right before his very eyes but I think Sun Woo's present time line will change when the two brothers meet in the past. A couple more hours to go....and we'll see the ramification of the change.

I'm wondering if Sun Woo's first girlfriend will be around to comfort him. Not sure where she was the last time....but...

“G-dragon, bright sun surrounded by tiny white dwarf stars…(mumble mumble).”
You look around, but see no one. “Who said that?” you ask.
You notice a puddle of melted G-dragonness pooled on the floor. It’s me.
“I-I saw him, supremely flash handsome in a suit, hot damn hair, sooo pretty baby, lovah boy.”
WHAT? mention of a x#girlfriend#x?? Who? Where? zap! ZAP! POW! (Vanish. Shiiwa.)
We even weigh the same (57.6 kilos), me and G-dragon do.
Fine, fine, so fine. Heartbreaker. Crush.
“I’m yours you’re mine.”

Strong Heart 2 ep 6, Watching it over and over. And over. *wipes drool*

Sugarless ~ The only school room we ever see is the nurse’s office where she patches up Shiiba after fights. Shirtless fighting = anatomy lesson. grade A+.

xxxholic ~Why does Watanuki defend Himawari I wonder, when Yuko told him that she is ‘difficult’ and to avoid her? Intense cliff hanger…

Share house (odd – I like); waiting for Siakou no Rikon subs this week!

Kdramas
Virus – Let me just say it was a huge mistake to watch this.
aka FBBSOE (Flower Boy Blood Shooting Out Eyes) for real.
So gross. So not cool. A beyond bad idea. Boohiss.
I’m pretty positive no one else is watching this anyhoot.

IRIS2; Kpop star 2 (final on Sunday – yay!); 9 Nine Times
if there’s a number in the title, I’m watching it.

Got my OT boost before I head into some deadline work today. Happy day db and beanies! Super jelly of those going to the NYC meet-up blast - sounds so fun!

Hai guys! Didja miss me?

I'm finally back from my unexpected Lenten break from DB. XD That wasn't fun.... >.>

Mashimomo, idk if you're still around, but give me a shout out if you are! Have you finished Gaksital yet? I haven't finished King 2 Hearts. XD

I watched Prosecutor Princess, and then was barraged by Kpop. I'll say my thoughts on Prosecutor Princess, then on Kpop.

This drama was AMAZING. I already liked Park Shi-hoo because of The Princess' Man, but he was just friggin' ADORABLE in this drama. Seriously. He's so cute! Except when he's being creepy. Then that's not cute. But he's mostly cute. XD Sometimes, I was about to pull out my hair because of that GIRL (omgoooosh) because she was so naive and arrogant. Buut, she got better, and the main couple got together. I loved this series. So. Much.

Now onto Kpop.

I totally fell for Big Bang during Lent. And SHINee. And U-Kiss. And K pop in general. I have never been this into any kind of music in my life. I LOVE BIG BANG. They're my favorite group ever. GDragon is really fashionable (though there have been a few...eh... QUESTIONABLE fashions, if you understand what I mean. :P) And they all work so hard, and it really does pay off.

I'll stop ranting now. :P

Had to laugh --> "Sugarless ~ The only school room we ever see is the nurse’s office where she patches up Shiiba after fights. Shirtless fighting = anatomy lesson. grade A+."

Big Bang during Lent? ::big grin::

Now i have to watch Prosecutor Princess. I still can't watch Princess' man for some reason. Although I'm told it's got a happy ending so i should watch.

Yay!!!! Prosecutor Princess is like my favorite drama!! Love to hear when others love it! Glad to see you are now drinking the Kpop kool-aid just like the rest of us. Right now my love for body waving U-kiss supersedes all of my other kpop faves but I really like Big Bang too. (Honestly my number 1 is still TVXQ (Homin).

I just read an article regarding Park Shi-hoo's "rape" case. Don't know what I've been up to lately that I only learned about this a while ago. Ugh. Don't know what to feel right now. I would always see him as the bunny-hugging-Cha Seung-jo though.

Happy Friday Beanies...hope everyone is well this fine April day. I have been reading some interesting blogs this week about people teaching English as a Second Language in Korea. Is anyone here an ESL teacher in South Korea?

Last weekend I finished Answer Me: 1997. I agree that it was better while the story took place in high school. With such a refreshing heroine to boot. (I will never forget the two fan clubs facing off in the rain shouting insults at each other. So. Funny.)

After reading the recaps for the final episodes of TWTWB, I feel no regrets about dropping it.

As for the other dramas I am watching, I have started to make my way through King of Dramas and have returned to Gokusen 3 after a hiatus. Also up to date on xxxHolic, though I gotta say, I don't remember the spider arc being quite as big a mess as it is in the drama. However, I'm really happy with how Doumeki is written overall, because he seems to have more of a personality then he did early in the manga, and he also comes across as more of a caring friend. His interactions with Himawari (and his concern for Watanuki) really ground that friendship and illuminate it in a way that just wasn't apparent on paper.

Does anyone know of another site besides Dramacrazy that is showing "Childless Comfort"? It's a really well done daily drama and very similar to "It's a beautiful Life " that was done some years ago. Seems like the same family type story, muti-generational,extended family living in the country, multiple story lines and dealing with the family's reaction to a daughter who becomes a single mother. The problem is when I checked ep 40 which is out but not subbed , there was a notation that the video was not available because it was deleted due to "violation of terms of use" Is this another problem with drama fever stopping the viewing or is it something else? I can't find it anywhere else and won't invest more time in it , if I can never see the ending. Any suggestions? HELP

Have you tried gooddrama.net? I don't know whether it has Childless Comfort, but it's pretty similar to dramacrazy and sometimes I'm able to watch an episode of drama which has been removed from dramacrazy's link because of "violation of terms of use"

I'm coming up for drama air so to speak. They are all sort of rolled into one. I think I feel that way because when you watch on viki finish one drama another one starts right away.
I really enjoyed AD Genius. It is so old school and quiet which was a nice change. School was also unexpected and enjoyable. Daniel Choi seemed like such a grown up. I don't usually like high school dramas because the teenage problems always seem so trivial but the story was teacher driven and I really liked jang nara the teacher. I also recently finished nice guy. I'm not sure why but I feel like the story lacked tension. I think it's mostly because I didn't believe he was conning eun gi snd I think that had to do with the lack of triangle. Like the bad guy triangle gun wook teasing Tae ra while dating monet. It wasn't a bad show. Is Iris 2 worth it guys? I didn't really like the first one but I do think it had some better moments than athena. Nine is on my radar but my ad blocker is working on dramafever anymore I and I don't like the new site. Viki has about 4 of the episodes fully subbed. I almost watched feast of the gods to see mr. Ten while waiting but I couldn't do it. I watched thorn birds instead. I'm sorry that han hye jin didn't take the all about my romance drama. I think watching her play a struggling actress hyped her up in my mind a little. Is anyone watching the park jin hee drama?

Only watching:
Nine:9TTT
The End of the World
Thorn Flower.
Everything else seems tired same old same old after watching Nine.
9 has all the cliches but it's so original and the brain keeps running full speed long after the episode is over. Main character has terminal illness, time travels, secret birth and LOL, it's original and inventive.

Thorn Flower is the 1st revenge drama that I like. Even Nice Guy's revenge was disatifying to me. Not a very good PD and cast (except the lead) but the STORY!

End of the Wold is like TF for me. It's got much more than a virus.

I can already see why all those stars backed out of this drama. I'll see if the 2 leads can over come the PD and the scriptwriter.

I liked When a Man Loves. Song Seung-Heon!!! AND Shin Se-Kyung.

My two least favorite actors are Oh Ji Ho and Song Seung Hon. I always think of Go Soo as a good comparison to Song ssi. Whatever Song ssi is trying to do with is acting Go Soo actually does. Oh Ji ho should stick to sageuks. I did not dislike him in Chuno. I wish that drama made more sense however.

Posts on the LMH PSH threads have been hilarious. You'd think expressing a reasoned opinion on acting skills is the same as insulting the honor of the posters' grandmothers.

Maybe for the next Dramabeans event there could be a Fangirlmania mudwrestling Smackdown. Early signups for Team LMH, PSH, (fill in the rest).

Now that's an event I'd pay to watch...

Therefore, it will be interesting. Off to watch When a Man loves episode 2 and pray that I do not feel asleep with the melo music.

Okay, sorry to display my ignorance here, but can someone please try to fully explain the chagrin being expressed toward Dramafever? It sounds like they're playing the 800 lb. Gorilla, and bullying other streaming sites in order to suppress competition. Am I wrong? But that doesn't make much sense to me when there are soooo many dramas they never even pretend to be interested in streaming, especially J-doramas. I'm a subscriber to DramaFever, and am reasonably happy with the service, except that they seem to be a bit slow in airing episodes of concurrent dramas. They were always at least a day behind the latest episode of Flowerboy Next Door, for instance. I also read that their translations are often not as accurate as can be found on other sites. What's the deal?

Valleydale, you can refer to Dramabeans posts "Announcement: Level 7 Civil Servant recaps now with less Joo-won" and "Update: Screencaps, recaps, and Joo-won" for more information, but the long and short of it is the DF launched a copyright violation complaint against DB last month trying to get the L7CS recaps taken down.
