Premiere Watch: Between Him and Her

Time slot: Tuesdays
Broadcaster: Channel A
Genre: Romance, comedy
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: Promising a realistic look at modern love and dating, this webtoon adaptation stars Donghae and Lee Seol as a long-dating couple that get bored with each other and catch the other cheating on the same night. Noted for being a no-holds-barred sort of story, we’ll navigate this couple’s relationship troubles and those of their friends in a mockumentary style fashion. Will they discover their relationship is worth saving? Or will our couple pack their bags and move on after seven years together? Either way, it’s between him and her.

TL;DR: A realistic drama (oxymoron much?) about love and dating

The only thing I've seen him in is the hour or so of Oh! Youngsim I endured before dropping it. That didn't make me want to try another drama with him, but the premise does kind of appeal to me.

@seeker, did you see Lovestruck in the City? It was kind of mockumentary-ish. I'm among the three or so beanies who liked it - especially that aspect of it.

I think so, but it gets criticism here in a way that almost makes me question my own taste. There's a ton of drinking and a hard-to-love FL. There's Wookie as a deeply screwed-up ML. It has a peculiar brand of humor that was right for me. I think the biggest problem many beanies had with it is the choices the various couples make about their relationships in the end - although I was on board with all of them. Sorry that's so vague - eh, try the first two episodes and know that there are a lot of ups and downs for the characters.

I trust your taste. I'll give it a spin after Samdal-ri. 👍

The premise also appealed to me but I got such a negative impression of him in Oh Young-shim

I'm the second out of the three or so beanies who liked Lovestruck in the City!

I found it refreshingly different from the usual kdrama fare thanks to the shorter runtime (less space for filler) and having a heroine who made believably flawed choices thanks to her own insecurities - things that, going by the comment section, did not go down well with db.
Also I wasn't a fan of Ji Chang-wook as an actor but that drama convinced me his real strength lies in comedy, something Welcome to Samdal-ri also tapped into.

I am one of those 3 beanies and just find out Mockunentary is a word and it so fitting to that kind of drama setting. I’ll give a watch for any drama that is Mockumentary.

Two good American Mockumentary movies are THIS IS SPINAL TAP and the even lighter BEST IN SHOW.

But to my mind the greatest one is a movie that was filmed before the term Mockumentary was even coined: THE HALELUJAH TRAIL. It is absolutely hilarious.

All You Need Is Cashaka The Rutles(1978) a mockumentary of a fictitious band, the Rutles, whose resemblance to the Beatles is "purely – and satirically – intentional"
Eric Idle of Monty Python fame and Lorne Michaels of Saturday Night Live* fame produced.
Outrageously funny .

*when SNL was funny, yes that long ago, the 70’s 😂

Another beanie who loved 'Lovestruck In the City '🙋‍♀️

It was my first mockumentary drama & I loved the narrative style. Aside from this, the cinematography drew me in, the OSTs hit different, too ( Specially 'Kiss Me Kiss Me ' by Issac Hong is my all time favourite). Also, Wookie was pretty good here with his puppy eyed acting.

I liked a lot of LOVESTRUCK IN THE CITY- but disliked the FL. I wanted another beautiful woman to show up and ride off into the sunset with our ML.

Have you ever seen The Rumour? It’s a short film (technically a segment from a film but it stands alone) and he’s great in that - https://youtu.be/xQK5aEQkBHQ?si=5ZH3kfYpOwN9SpVY

I feel like his acting is better if things are angsty.

I didnt know about this project. I have only seen him in romcoms so it could be just a genre thing for sure. I will check this one

They never gave him roles thatbcould actually show his acting hes definitely better at angst like in this or The Rumour but hopefully he gets better roles sometimes its not bad acting sometimes with idols they dont let them do much cuz their looks are what they're hired for kinda like cha eun woo he probably can act but he never does more than broody looks in his dramas but pulls in the ratings everytime

A mockumentary K-drama. If they pull it off it could be genre defining.

I’m really interested to follow weecaps, but this sounds way too stressful for me. It’s hard to watch people making poor choices all the time, so I’ll let this one play out and read some Beanie feedback, but it’s probably a pass.

If they can get the tone of the couples in the film Very ordinary couple and Love to Hate you I feel it could be an ok watch not taking things to Bora Deborah or Strangers again levels of seriousness that make it too much like hard work and less of an interesting review of managing modern relationships and adult life pressures.

Did anyone else see the opening episode, realise that it’s a once a week drop and immediately hope there will be a first impressions post and a hangout to allow us space to discuss the series? Or am I on my own with this one?

Oh yeah sure but I don’t think I have much to say at this point other than the fact that this started out great but since then hasn’t had much progress and it’s frustrating seeing the leads cannot make a firm decision about anything lmao. I thought SO had a very clear understanding of herself and what she wants but I’m not sure anymore after the last few episodes.

No worries that would fit nicely there. We want future beanies to get a feel for the drama’s good and bad points. You will see this reflected in the comments currently in there.
