Ahn Bo-hyun joins Park Ji-hyun as Flex x Cop

The newest teaser for SBS’s Flex x Cop introduces its man-child protagonist Ahn Bo-hyun (See You in My 19th Life) as third-generation chaebol Jin Yi-soo. While on duty as part of the SWAT team, Yi-soo apprehends a man who turns out to be a murderer, and his older brother Kwak Shi-yang (Cafe Minamdang) seizes this opportunity to turn him into a cop. Of course, no one expects much from Yi-soo, and his older brother tells him to treat it like a game.

His unorthodox recruitment draws heavy criticism from his new team leader Lee Kang-hyun, played by Park Ji-hyun (Reborn Rich), who sees him as an unqualified brat just waiting to cause trouble. Despite her grievances, Yi-soo joins her team, and with detectives Park Jun-young and Choi Kyung-jin — played by Kang Sang-jun (True to Love) and Kim Shin-bi (Revenant) respectively — our new detective gets ready for his first major case.

Though Kang-hyun tells Yi-soo that their job is different from the movies, he disagrees. Pointing out all the similarities, he thinks being a cop is all about catching criminals and performing cool stunts. Contrary to his flashy suits and overconfidence, Yi-soo gets beaten during a raid and dangles in the sky after jumping out of a window.

However, whatever Yi-soo lacks in training, he makes up for with his background, and he promises to use all his money to catch those who break the law. If he can’t solve cases the traditional way, an expensive watch and a bag of cash might do the trick. Maybe being rich is bad news in other detective dramas, but in this one, Yi-soo is the chaebol out to get other chaebols — bad guys beware.

Written by Kim Ba-da (My Name) and directed by PD Kim Jae-hong (Revenant, Through the Darkness), SBS’s Flex x Cop premieres January 26 in the Friday-Saturday slot.

With a parachute to land on the police department building as a new employee? That was a famous scene in what I think everyone agrees is one of the all time great kdramas.

No doubt. Everything went downhill after that very realistic flying chaebol entry.

And yet it had very effective social commentary about Junho's awakening to the oppression of service workers. I guess it was too radical for most viewers.

Especially the part where he converted the ownership of the company to a cooperative with shares distributed equitably among all employees, sold off surplus property to fund a building program for subsidized housing, and flattened the pay structure so executives made no more than 3x the salary of the lowest paid staff - who are now paid 10x the industry average. Oh, how I cheered at that finale! Can’t wait to see how Ahn Bo-hyun will pull off the policing equivalent. Whatever that may be.

@seeker Yes - although I was thinking of the later scene where he jumped out of a helicopter onto a narrow cliffside ledge with no thought of what that would accomplish or what to do next, thus making the situation worse instead of better. As chaebols do.

that was the merit of that drama. it had no plot but it was a daydream of equality

Umm ... was it the 2PM face card show? Also didn't he land on the wrong building.

@Elinor I dropped King the Land at episode 14. I would cheer Gu Won too for doing all that for the employees. That is eye-opening. Perhaps I need to get that bean after all.

There definitely should be a Bean of Imaginary Better Endings.

@Elinor Sigh, so I got all excited for nothing! 🤦‍♀️

While @elinor is joking, Yoona's character did open HER OWN small hotel, showing that all service workers can aspire to entrepreneurship of their own! If that isn't realizing the capitalist dream of true equality, I don't know what is!

Speaking seriously, I liked this part of the ending better than the diamond encrusted excrescence Junho's character bought her from one of those breakfast chain places. In fact, remove the PPLs from King the Land, and you'd have a nice 6 episode rom-com!

Oh! Cool. Thanks @hacja I really liked how Junho's character always listened to the employees and their issues. Didn't really believe the drama would go anywhere near "resolving" these very RL concerns but still, even a small step by the FL is good. Glad to know.

I didn't specially like the new batch of dramas with Love Song for Illusion and Marry My Husband, so I will test this one, but why on the week-end >_<

Exactly. They are going the extra mile with this character’s luxury playthings too like a miniature version of each of his cars with the keys. That’s a first for me.

I’m a bit confused by the following : “ While on duty as part of the SWAT team, Yi-soo apprehends a man who turns out to be a murderer, and his older brother Kwak Shi-yang (Cafe Minamdang) seizes this opportunity to turn him into a cop”. Isn’t the Korean SWAT tem part of the Police? If so, he is a cop already. If not, then this makes some sense.

🤔 Maybe if we add a time travel plot yet again…

😂 Yes, but I was wondering about the same thing, and thought that maybe it was a private combat company, which - yikes.
