Beanie level: Errand boy

Thanks so much DB for such an incredible wacky drama-loving community and for publishing my review. I’d given up hope but now I’ve got my Daesung groove back on.

2018 was the year I finally emerged from my underground cave and became active on DB and honestly, I’m in love with this hilariously snarky and equally drama addicted safe haven. *showers love to all the amazing beanies who’ve made this year so much better* 💖💕

I had noticed it when I saw the separate character posters. They have been cropped in an unfortunate way to make this later poster.

I guess I haven’t seen the individual posters then T__T The show still manages to catch me off guard in the best way possible though.

Sorry that I don’t remember where I saw them.

It really is the best. Honestly it is the ONLY show in ten years that I am live-watching! And not only that, I had no intention of watching it at all, because I can’t handle watching too disturbing shows, but I knew this writer writes great thrilling stories so I was reading the recaps. After 5/10 episodes I couldn’t resist anymore and started watching.

10 years WOW! Exactly- CoN is such a thrilling masterpiece, it sucks you into their world. There’s so much carefully crafted suspense and mystery along with incredible acting. I’m in love. If the ending is as amazing as the rest of the story so far this might be a 9.5 or a 10.

Kim Sun ah is blowing me away with Children of Nobody. Like blowing me away. I have no idea whether to trust her delusions or not because she seems like an unreliable narrator. And I’m here for every second of it.

SAME. I feel like the little girl in the green dress is her younger comatosed sister. Btw, have you watched the recent episode?

    1
    1

No, I’m still in ep8 but I’m catching up very fast! It’s such an intricate web of possible deceit and pain that I pause to take a breather and figure things out. I think the girl is her sister too but then wouldn’t she have recognised her from looking at the photo album? (Step) Mom definitely knows who she is, so maybe she’s a friend who was abused or some relative?

I see. Hope you watch Ep 9 soon. Don’t want to spoil anything yet but would like to discuss this theory further with you.

OMG SAMEEEE. I havent watched the past 2 episodes though (including ep 10).

By the way, only one episode was aired this week right?

      Yes I think so!

The drama though is phenomenal! I’m at the edge of my seat but there’s also moments of lightheartedness. It’s amazing

I haven’t started it because I’ll binge it in the end when I know a repeat of W doesn’t occur 😭
The holiday envy is real though.

Andy is currently feeling burnt by Third Charm

I went in knowing there would be sadness which is probably why I liked parts of it. Maybe it should’ve been advertised differently.

There was so much insecurity, pettiness and jealousy in this drama but that happens in real life too. People are selfishly-flawed in real life and no one is bursting with candy happiness or fluff beneath cold-heartness. I didn’t mind the ending because it reminded me off the British movie One Day where romantic best friends meet once a year for 18 years on the same day.

I also have so many problems with the narrative. I found both main characters unlikeable at times and that was brave of the drama but they should have split the narrative equally between Young Jae and Joon Young because then we could actually experience the suffocation they felt and EMPATHISE with them. Instead they reveal through cop-outs all the sadness and depression that befalls Young Jae and it hurts us too but it still paints her as being seriously unlikeable because we don’t fully peek into her mind, when in reality they were both stuck in bad places with different intensities. The reason Ji Young in Individualist Ms.Ji yong was adored despite her ‘perceived likeablity’ is because we got to live in her shoes which didn’t happen in Third Charm

Either way this is not be rewatched and whilst the acting was superb, the story needed more balance and direction.

Individualist Jin Young focus on The female lead, while the third charm is the opposite. They have different narrative and message. I think the third charm has direction. Just might be have to be rewatch to understand what the writers want to convey. Note : If you can handle the heaviness of melodrama And the lead is definitely Joon Young.

I can’t write 800 words for an efficiency mid-term essay but I exceed DB’s 1000 word limit for the Year End essay by a 1000 words. -____- What do I do? I can’t help it if I have so much to say. T__T

I suddenly got inspiration (eh, fancy word 😂) for a year end review submission. One that involves my creative design skills (eh, an exaggeration of sorts) . I’m pretty sure if anyone saw me right now while I work on expressing my feelings for my kdrama favs I’d look like this: (lets hope the artistic part (of sorts) works out well) 🤞

The only cheesy kdrama I’ve stuck with this year is Witch’s Love cause of the adorable OTP. I think my cheese/roundabout story-telling tolerance decreased T_T (WWWSK, Beauty Inside, Mama Fairy)

I’ve finished Matrimonial Chaos and it’s definitely one of my favourites from this year. It’s sheer brilliance in the way it weaves in realistic dialogue and characters that are flawed yet human is a spectacle to behold.

I loved the quiet, contemplative journey I was taken on where I had to question the characters and reflect understandingly on what they did. The drama featured such poignant moments and dialogue that captured my heart. Most of all though I loved how at the end of the day no one was one dimensional, but instead real life people, bustling ideas, emotions and ambitions.

I’ll miss the incredible friendship between Hwi Roo and Yoo Young (it was one of a kind and beat my other unlikely female friendship – Wife’s Credentials for top spot) and the bromance between Seok Mo and Jang Hyun. I’ll miss the phenomenal acting that graced my screen for 16 hours, Halmoni and all the other side characters who left an impact but are still living their lives out there.

I didn’t really like Seok Moo initially but by the end of it he’d grown on me so much. UGH I’ll miss this show.

I kinda liked him from the beginning. In fact it was HwerRoo who kind of annoyed me with her brushing habits :)))
His cynical view of the world can be quite addictive and sometimes therapeutic!!

        3
        2

oh dear HwiRoo annoyed me too, maybe I’m kind of a Seok Moo myself ^^’

“His cynical view of the world can be quite addictive and sometimes therapeutic!” oh yes to that <3

For me I guess both their personalities annoyed me. 😂 I saw the bad sides in both but I loved how it turned around. He got so understanding and she did budge a little (I wish she expressed herself more though- that letter tore me to bits when it was torn up).

            0
            0

@fencejumper yes that letter! I guess her book was a window to her soul for SeokMoo. The book was the letter. That’s how I saw it.
I guess the four of them find it easier to talk about marriage and things that bother them when they are in a group. I liked how Jang Hyun said they can go to the other couple when one of them is upset.

          1
          1

            @mayhemf
Oh I didn’t think of it that way. It’s definitely the book just like how Soek
Mo sang the song with his heart. Yup, I see it as none of them really willing to express themselves and communicate with each other during tough times. They’re either willing to burst suddenly like (HW-SM) or keep it to themselves (YY-JH). I love how they confess their heart out to the bar tender though! He’s all like everyone should just come together ^_^

I wish kdramas featured more “senior/elderly” characters that aren’t generic stock roles that vanish later on. Halmoni in Matrimonial Chaos is EXCEPTIONALLY INCREDIBLE. She’s wise but not in the “regularly generic” kdrama fashion. Instead she stands her ground, is patient and dishes out wisdom based on experience. Most of all though she’s just such a genuine person, full of life and never really detached from her family, her values nor her emotions. The last time I loved an elder was in the brilliant Dear My Friends

I haven’t watched My Ahjusshi yet – definitely will though and whilst I enjoyed grandma’s performance in Suits she wasn’t an integral character T_T. I’ve seriously got to watch My Ahjusshi though.

Such an amazing character. I loved how liberal she was and how genuine she was.
This piece of writing about the color pencils really touched me.

I think some people saw it as a melo at first? I’m riveted by SIG’s performance in his drama but Matrimonial Chaos is the full package for me. It’s my favorite right now. The story and acting are wonderful.

Yes, it’s unfortunate that the drama doesn’t have more viewers. Who knows why that is. ….. Perhaps the subject matter hits too close to home for many. It’s always mystery with dramas, though. You just never know what will capture the audience’s attention.
