Beanie level: Eunuch in drag

i have never been more willing to wait two weeks for a drama’s return –– that’s just how good episode 16 was. go get ’em signor consigliere. 🔫 💪🏼 go get ’em real bloody good.

YEORIM I’VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH 🥺🥺🥺🥺 11 years on and still such a babe.

8

im so happy they did a yeorim reference! i was sad when gu yong ha was missing from the plant family 🙁

    2
    1

clearly our Yeorim needs a much bigger stage than just being among fellow plant buddies 😂 this show has been so absolutely generous with the SJK references! brilliant through and through. suuuuper sad that there’s no eps next week, how am i(are we all) gonna get through it…..

      2
      0

I especially loved how he opened that fan with such flourish!!!

    3
    1

yes! i kinda wished V channeled more Yeorim but hey, i’ll take what i can get 😅 i had to pause the show for a bit and have a little scream before going into the ‘Park Hyo Shrine’ hahaha oh this show is amazing with sneaky references. wonder who the Park Hyo Shin fan in the production team is!

      1
      1

I will admit that I don’t know the reference to Park Hyo Shin.
        *off to google this*

        2
        1

Oh I just found him and realized I LOVE his voice since watching Mr Sunshine. Listening to him sing I find my eyes close and I just feel the emotions through his voice.
WOW! Now I need to go back and watch this scene. heck I need to rewatch the whole drama. who am I kidding?

          4
          2

so Park Hyo Shin is also known as the ‘God of Music’, probably the reason he was referenced heh. the song that paralegal Nam briefly sang was the first line of Snow Flower (눈의 꽃). yes – his voice is amazing indeed!

and tell me about it! i think this is one drama i’ll have no qualms about wanting to rewatch, just to relive all the hilarious moments again and again.

            1
            0

Ah I didn’t know that name for him, but it sure fits. His voice is truly incredible.

hey @quirkycase! this website appears to have lifted your Vincenzo ep 9 review for their website: nachostime.co/ korean-drama/ episode-9-dramabeans-korean-drama-recaps/ – just wanna alert you.

4
4

they did the same with my Vincenzo blogpost (from Koreandramaland.com) and I’m trying to demand for them to take it down because I did NOT give them any permission to put it up. seems like they’re doing it with other websites’ content as well. they don’t seem to have a contact email (smart?) and the only way to reach them seems to be via the comments, which they moderate.

hope y’all have been keeping safe, Beanies! been hiding away the last few weeks enjoying Vincenzo; here’s our latest blogpost on KDL: https://koreandramaland.com/vincenzo-kdrama-filming-locations/

Cool! I really loved the visuals in Ep 10, especially the abandoned Health University and the Rail tunnel with all the arches that reminded me of Italy.

    2
    1

hello dear @bbstl! and yes – Vincenzo’s totally been serving up the looks, and i’m not just talking about SJK hehe 😉 And good point about the structure of the rail tunnel! Didn’t make that connection at all. Really quite impressed with the location choices!

Although… I was actually surprised to read that the show is 20 instead of 16 eps! Really hope that the team will be able to sustain the story for another 8 episodes, though I have no doubt that they’ll be able to do it as deftly as possible.

      2

😬 I started to feel the show slowing down in 10 and thought ohhhh they’re starting to streeeetch every scene. Hope I’m wrong!

we put out some 2020 K-dramaland predictions on KDL and it’s time to revisit them: https://koreandramaland.com/2020-kdrama-predictions-recap/ – see which ones we got right! any 2021 predictions? 🙂

6
5

I don’t have any predictions, but I do have a wishlist! I would love to see more of the seaside and the countryside. The cities always feel a little claustrophobic.

    4
    1

that sounds nice indeed, @pickleddragon! hopefully we continue to see more of Jeju and the countryside this year too 🙂

      3
      1

Also thank you for the lovely site. I always visit when you put up the link and admire the research you’ve put into digging up the real places behind the scenes. It’s fascinating to see and learn more about these locations!

        2
        1

aww, thank you for the kind words! it’s truly a passion project of ours and it’s always gratifying to know that our hard work is appreciated. <3

PS: i'm a BIG Memorials fan too!!

          2
          1

happy 2021 all! what a start to the new year: sitting through 5 hours of the KBS Drama Awards just to watch my GongSera win Best Couple and Excellence in a Miniseries ❤️ congrats Nana & Sunghoon oppa!

18
8

How could they not win? They are the best OTP ever!!

    3
    1

i would have absolutely rioted if they weren’t recognised as such!! 😅 and i think they know it too – Nana spent like… 30 seconds of her (just as long) acceptance speech to thank him for being a good partner ❤️

      5
      0

Yay! They are the best couple indeed.

    3
    1

best couple of 2020 ❤️ and until i find a new fave couple this year!

      2
      1

also… they are 1/8 ‘Best Couples’ that won at the awards (KBS and their over-recognition haha) but we all know who the best BEST couple is 😉

        1
        1

… the one that asked to reenact their most iconic scene, or if its too scandalous, the one with kiss scene being count. 🤣🤣🤣.

And with this, i would say that oh jiho and geumbi-yang (pardon me for forgetting her real name) togerher with kim jiwon and park seojun won over songsong couple on year 2017.

          2

So proud! Curse you Covid because I can’t see their beautiful faces!

it’s time to round up the year with our final KDL roundup – our fave scenes and sites: https://koreandramaland.com/kdl-2020-kdrama-fave-scenes-locations/ – let us know yours too 🙂 thanks for reading!

9

This is so nice 😁 Lovely to revisit them all.

Rather than talk about my own favorites, I will ask my own favoriteunanswered kdrama question, one that has been bothering me now for 15 years. Using the Deoksogung Wall as an example, does anyone know how the mortar is done? In the States, mortar is recessed between the bricks but in Olde Korea the mortar forms a perfect frame outside of the bricks/stones. I can’t figure out how they do that and my searches have been fruitless.
Anyone know a Korean stone mason?

    1

hello everyone! hope you liked KDL Roundup #1 🙂 here’s our next one, Neighborhoods of the Year: https://koreandramaland.com/kdl-2020-kdrama-neighborhoods/ – tell us which ones are your favorite!

i really miss travelling so thanks for the lovely round-up!

    3
    1

Thanks, mich! It’s fun to see all the neighborhoods. I’m a bit freaked out that of all the dramas listed in the Top 10 Neighborhoods, I think the only show I’ve seen this year is Itaewon Class. Whaaaaat?

    3
    1

hello friends! it’s been too long. hope all is well <3 we're still plodding along over at KDL, and starting our year end roundups. here's #1: https://koreandramaland.com/kdl-2020-kdrama-locations/

🙋🏼‍♀️ Hi, mich! Long time no see. Good to know you guys are still keeping track of what is where 👏🏽
I’ve hardly watched any shows this year but just finished Chicago Typewriter and will love looking up a number of those locations.
    Thanks for Roundup #1!

    1
    1

hello @bbstl! always a joy to hear from you 🙂 yes – we continue to do what we do cos we love it, and we know that one thing that can’t ever be replicated are our Roundups, so we’ll definitely keep doing those too! and yay! how amazing was Chicago Typewriter. my actor KP (Go Kyung-pyo) is in it and am very proud of his performance. we have some CT locations here, although one place I’m still looking out for is Han Se-joo’s house! which was also recently seen in Tale of the Nine Tailed. hope you’ve been well otherwise ❤️

      1
      1

Chicago Typewriter, I will always remember it as the drama with the most books (and bookshelves).
I’m good, hope you are too! Here’s to a highly improved 2021 🥂

        1
        1

hehe – well, nothing will ever beat the bookshelves of the Forest of Wisdom; but then again, it is a library after all 😉

am doing okay but can’t wait to travel again 😭 sigh. hope things get better indeed!

          1
          0

Hello to you too! Hope all is well with you also! 🙂

    1
    1

thank you @korfan! things are okay 🙂 feels surreal that we’ve already reached the end of a very odd year!

      1
      0

so the unthinkable has happened to KDL: we were hijacked. read our statement here: https://koreandramaland.com/listings/steal-stole-stolen/

2
24

Oh no! That is awful. All your hard work stolen 😫. I hope you’ll get an explanation and can get your content back 🥺

    2
    1

thank you @katakwasabi – since we put up that notice, the perpetrator has responded, but does not think that they are in any wrong. rather, they seem to be of the impression that this information ought to be “shared”, since no one has any right to the addresses. but it’s not even about that, tbh. it completely belittles all the effort that’s gone into searching for the locations, many from scratch. there’s not much we can do at the moment, but we are looking at certain internal measures that might prevent a similar case in future. we understand that they’ve been stealing from other sites too! they simply have some nerve. appreciate your kind thoughts ❤️

      3
      2

Maybe you can team up with other sites they’ve plagiarized? I’m hoping that something helps.

        0
        1

yes, that’s something i hope we can look into. cos obviously the more voices there are, the louder the discontent would be, and hopefully it will put them out of ‘business’. they even have a ‘donate’ button, claimed to be for the people helping behind the scenes. but i think we’re one of those ‘invisible’ people and not getting anything out of it. not that this was the point to begin with! argh! 😡

          1
          0

Is there any way we can report their site for something that would eventually shut it down? Or place a notice in your site about their impostor or something.

My heart breaks for your team since gathering those esp locations that are new takes time and effort.

        1
        1

thank you so much 🥺 very touched by the kind words ❤️ you can reach out to me at mich [at] koreandramaland [dot] com if you’d like. happy to share more. (also just in case any of their lackeys happen to be lurking around these parts… haha)

another thing is that we have avoided sharing their website link cos we don’t want them to benefit from this (obviously the attention would prob bring up their site visits). but if anyone would like see it for themselves, just reach out to me via email.

          1
          0

Mygoodness! I hope you will get your response and have the site back up with all your data. Fighting!

    2
    1

thank you @neener ❤️ our site has been running (it wasn’t down, save for the tech issue we had in July) and our data is intact. the issue is that this other site is likely to have downloaded and copied our data for their own site, and that what angers us at KDL – and as seen in this thread, many of you too 🥺 see my response to Katakwasabi on the perpetrator’s (non)response.

      2
      0

Oh no! This is terrible! I’m so sorry to hear this happened!

    1
    1

oh such a shame! I hope the takedown notice works! Fighting!

    2
    1

thank you @pickleddragon ❤️ see my reply to Katakwasabi above on the perpetrator’s (non)response.

      2
      1

Argh so frustrating. Going forward, I suppose you can use some kind of copy-protect measures to prevent machine-lifting of content. Not just for the website, but also for all of your soc-med presence (e.g., RSS feeds should not contain full text – which then becomes easily copiable, etc.). You should be able to claim copyright protection over original photographs and text anyway, and try and report them to their host server on those grounds. I’m sure the host will have some policies on this. Get good legal advice! All the best.

        0
        0

@Mich I do hope that you are able to resolve this issue and get back your stolen content.

    1
    1

thank you @sirena ❤️ well – tbh with location addresses, it could be quite hard to prove that they were stolen from us. am trying to build a case on any original content they may have lifted, so we shall see how that goes.

      1
      1

@Mich. I am in shock. I hope there are good guys out there that can help you.

    1
    1

@marcusnyc20 :((( sigh. so are we tbh. we’ve faced many plagiarism situations over the last 3 years but none have been as blatant and shameless as this. and thank you. i don’t know how much we can really do but am trying to build a case for original content, so we shall see.

      2
      0

Oh no @michh!!! Have you talked to a copyright attorney? I have a friend who goes through this periodically with her website. It might be good to consult one if you can find a local person who’s reasonable.

    1
    1

@ndlessjoie ❤️ thanks my dear. no – we’ve not talked to any legal people just yet, but also not sure how much it can help. will see if we have anyone in our circles whom we can talk to! trying to start small, like building a case on reporting original content and taking it from there.

      1
      0

Oh no, that truly is unthinkable 😮 I’m so sorry that this has happened to you guys after all your hard work which we have enjoyed so much. Ugh, it’s SO UNFAIR. Why can’t people just live right??? I wish you all the best in getting back at them (sorry, unlike in a kdrama I am unable to think up a good “sting” operation). 🤬🤬🤬

    0
    1

@bbstl you’re here!! ❤️ was wondering if this would be able to reach you somehow 😫 it is extremely selfish, and even if they’re trying to reach out to the French k-drama community… really, that’s just not the way to do it. the most incredible thing was that we had NEVER given our consent, not at all, and yet they took our ‘silence’ as consent? or they just went ahead with it thinking that the info should just be “free” for all? wow. they really have the nerve. and thank you – trying to pick the battles to see which way we can strike without them knowing.

      2
      2

In ref what you have consented to, maybe you can make your copyright license / policy clearer and more visible on your site – whether it is copiable with attribution, or whatever else you choose. You might have already done this. If so, please ignore this comment 🙂

        0
        0

UGH what the hell are people thinking??? They’ve got some nerve, is right. I wish I were a patent attorney and could help you.

Exactly. Over the last couple if years I have had ideas of visiting South Korea during the cherry blossom season. I remember how gorgeous they were in CAHM and APAD.
Like you Ally I would definitely bookmark Korean Dramaland. Endless possibilities of visiting kdrama locations. For example one location I would trek to is the famous bridge (really highway overpass) from 30BUT17.

      2
      1

greetings all! hope things are well 🙂 what’s everyone watching now? i’ve jumped on the ‘Men Are Men’ bandwagon because Geummi- i mean, Seo Ji-hoon is back! good to see SJH as a lively character 🙂

10
4

The only reason I’m watching this show as well!

    1
    1

hehe! i love how he’s back together with Yoon Hyun-min too 🙂 having that familiarity and chemistry is so important. and i think his character here really has got a lot more personality than his Meow the Secret Boy one >.< (sorry Jae-sun…)

      1
      1

Tbh, I’m not a fan of YHM, HJE is already yelling, and the similarity between some of the plot elements in this show and Tale of Fairy is raising all kinds of alarms. Not a death knell yet (I watched all of Meow for SJH, even though the cat acted better than L, so I can give this one at least a few more episodes), but I’m hoping the show gets better.

        0
        1

IKR i was quite surprised that they both signed on for this show, that is more of a modern day version of the whole past lives thing tackled in Mama Fairy. it obviously covers more past life timelines but still.. absolutely uncanny. i’m gonna keep to it a bit more cos i at least find Do-gyeom refreshing to watch!

          0

also, quick PSA that the Korean Dramaland site is facing some tech difficulties at the moment >.< but hopefully we'll be back up and running soon! thanks for your understanding and patience.

here’s our latest post on KDL about the music, movies, books & poems in When My Love Blooms!

2
1

it was quite a labor of love (because it is very, VERY long…), but worth it especially for those who are keen to learn more about the references from that time, particularly because of the ‘newtro’ trend in South Korea 🙂 let me know your thoughts or your fave song/book/poem/movie reference! thanks to this drama, i discovered Light & Salt (빛과소금), and really enjoy their song ‘Do Not Leave My Side (내곁에서 떠나가지 말아요)’.

and an appreciation post for one of my fave secretaries: When My Love Blooms’ Secretary Kang. thank you for being such a great support to Jae-hyun always. (and i forgive you for that hotel mention…)
