Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

As I was watching the drama I wondered if we were to evaluate Judge Cha how many of the psychopath checklist items she would fulfill. So I tried to find out for myself:

GLIB AND SUPERFICIAL CHARM: She has that in spades, on the surface she’s so kind and smart and seems dedicated to helping others, but they don’t notice how that’s merely her veneer.

GRANDIOSE (EXAGGERATEDLY HIGH) ESTIMATION OF SELF: She also has this, the way she treats her subordinates and has them grovel at her feat as if she were the Empress, and the statue she erected in her father’s name supposedly to celebrate his life work, but really to get herself more known and her promise to her father’s statue that she would be even greater than he ever was.

NEED FOR STIMULATION: Not sure but we can infer that she doesn’t like to be bored which is why she looks for ways to keep on top of things in Gi Seong and quite enjoys the challenge of staying on top.

PATHOLOGICAL LYING: The way she lied to Jae Yi all her life about her mother and pretended to be a surrogate mother to her. Also exhibited when she told Jae Yi that Sang Pil probably has a vendetta against her because of some case he lost or something as if she didn’t very clearly remember that he ordered his mom and himself killed 18 years ago.

CUNNING AND MANIPULATIVENESS: Goes hand in hand with how she’s handled Jae Yi and the city of Gi Seung appearing to be a “Mother Teresa” and hiding her real self behind that facade.

LACK OF REMORSE OR GUILT: So far hasn’t shown any sign of that even daring to mention Sang Pil’s mother to his face and remind him that those that oppose her are soon eliminated.

SHALLOW AFFECT (SUPERFICIAL EMOTIONAL RESPONSIVENESS): She only shed tears at her father’s funeral for appearances in front of the rest of the mourners

CALLOUSNESS AND LACK OF EMPATHY: this is high up there among her traits and part and parcel of her ability to victimize Jae Yi’s mother and turn around and pretend to be interested in Jae Yi.

PARASITIC LIFESTYLE: Hmm. this one, I consider that she’s a huge parasite on the whole of Gi Seong.

POOR BEHAVIORAL CONTROLS: She let’s her anger control her and even hits those she deems beneath her.

SEXUAL PROMISCUITY : this one isn’t mentioned in the drama and I doubt it would be brought up and as she’s enjoying the image of the “Mother Teresa” of Gi Seong it probably isn’t part of her charactrer

EARLY BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS: We don’t know yet

LACK OF REALISTIC LONG-TERM GOALS: Her goals aren’t realistic, but they are grandiose, leaving Gi Seong while still controlling it and being the Supreme Court Judge.

IMPULSIVITY: She killed a man because she overheard his comments and did it impulsively with no real plan and then had someone else come and clean up her mess.

IRRESPONSIBILITY: She blames everything that goes wrong on her henchmen never accepting her own hand at causing such things, and she blames the innocent people she trods on for their inability to stay down and follow her.

FAILURE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR OWN ACTIONS: She kills and has someone else take the blame, how much less able to accept responsibility can she get.

MANY SHORT-TERM MARITAL RELATIONSHIPS: We don’t know

JUVENILE DELINQUENCY: We don’t know but I’m guessing she must have been the model student who secretly killed animals.

REVOCATION OF CONDITIONAL RELEASE: she hasn’t ever been caught as of yet.

CRIMINAL VERSATILITY: She’s done it all – murders, theft, blackmail, fraud anything and everything she’s done it, so I’d say she does have it.

She’s a total psycho, ****Ep 6 SPOILER I never expected that she personally murdered someone in such cruel way!! She sure worships her father in such obsessive way and wants to keep and promote his legacy while becoming above all of it… I heared both CMS and AOJ charachters represents former president of SK (who by the way still has some sorts of power in SK despite being accused to many crimes)… she was one of the politicians who continued to keep LJK and some other artists in blacklists…

    5
    2

Wow, totally didn’t occur to me that she represents past/present politicians. Creepy.

      4
      2

I didn’t realize that she was based on that! though I had roughly heard of the blacklist that included Park Chan Wook (Oldboy), Song kang ho and various other artists that had protested against the government.

Ep. 6 of Lawless Lawyer made me fall in love with it more and more and one of the reasons is that Jae Yi, the smart girl did not just accept information she went out and investigated and got to her own conclusions and then heard what Sang Pil had to say about her mentor, about how that related to his mother’s murder and her mother’s disappearance, digested it, cried about it and pulled herself together, and never once blamed him for anything, like we’ve seen happened in countless other dramas where somehow the victim receives part of the blame because of his presence in the incident. I love that it brought them closer together and that they were even more united and not broken because of the truth. Yay for brave heroines and kind heroes.

She is girl crush materiel! I can see that she gonna be a wonderful lawyer, and they gonna fight together. Lawless lawyer duo start now 😀

This drama and Rescue Me have certainly made me sit up and pay attention to Seo Ye Ji and in the future I’ll probably at least give dramas a chance if she’s a lead. I believe she’s one of the best actresses of her generation.

100% agree… two mature adults do not need any angsty build up to fall in love… although my heart was not ready to see too many goodies at once, but I’m happy that she understood BSP’s pains and true feelings and didn’t beat around the bush

I think that there’s so much already that’s messed up in their lives, that they shouldn’t carry it over to their relationship, and so far they’re building a solid relationship of trust and communication that will probably survive even throughout the onslaught that’s certainly going to come their way thanks to the villains.

This is what I want to see. Adults behaving like adults. They don’t necessarily have to sleep together for the relationship to move forward but physical contact is half of a relationship. It fosters feelings of intimacy and helps a couple bond. All of this falling in love and barely ever holding hands is too far-fetched IMO.

    7
    1

Yes, I actually wasn’t really expecting them to sleep together so early on in the drama, not because they’re not ready it’s just that dramas usually drag it out till the end.

      1
      1

Yes, I know! I love how she didn’t just get swayed by Judge Cha for five episodes but went and investigated things on her own.

    4
    1

I was scared that when Judge Cha gave her a way out she’d seriously consider it but I’m so glad that she didn’t and instead it actually gave her warning bells that she was being manipulated.

I especially loved how she never blamed him for any part of her mother’s incident. she really is such a selfless and awesome female character. Also the scene where she confronted that guy in jail 👏🏽

    7
    1

I was really proud of her, she knew that Sang Pil would find it hard to tell her what happened to her mother because it was linked to his trauma, so she was brave enough to go to the detective, and I was so proud that she continued working to get him out of a jail sentence for the murder he was being framed for, though she would still work to get justice for her mom and Sang Pil’s mom.

Episode 5 of Lawless Lawyer was wonderful in it’s pacing, I never felt bored even if there were no “action” scenes, in fact I loved that Jaeyi didn’t take anything completely at face value and did her own investigation, and started to form her own ideas, and at the end when Sang Pil told her that Judge Cha was behind her mother’s disappearance, I think it’s not out of surprise, but more of the pain of confirming her own changing views on her mentor. She’s a smart woman not only bookwise but also intuitively, and she was starting to see the evil picture behind the Judge’s actions.

La Llorona is a traditional Mexican song written around the time of the Mexican Revolution and Chavela Vargas is it’s most iconic singer, the feeling she transmits through her vocal rawness really has captured my heart and imagination. She sang a few verses in the movie Frida Kahlo and most recently another singer has interpreted it in Pixar’s Coco and it was fantastic, but my favourite is Chavela’s version.

This song it’s always heartbreaking to me because it’s incredible how real it is. People always justify their actions but the gain is never worth the pain they gave.

Seventeen’s rendition of SuJu’s “U” is life. It was Kyuhyun’s debut song and the first song with Suju as a 13 member group. I hope SVT keeps being 13 forever and Suju is 13+2 forever in my heart.

The thing I most appreciate about Jae Yi is that she’s no wilting lily and yes she might be a little frightened but she won’t stand for being coddled. Jae Yi, fighting!

I have to watch it on a not legal site. I’ve been waiting for all 4 eps to be translated before I start it. Everyone is making me want to start it asap. Almost all the beanie reviews have been good.

I’m such a sucker for a good scooby gang and this drama is giving me the cute moments with them as well in this action packed episode.

Ah, this makes me want to start it!

Do it, Coco, do it! It’s absolutely wonderful – no idea how it compares to other legals because I don’t usually like them.. But it’s superbly fun, with a great, silly ensemble, and wonderful chemistry between the leads.

      4
      1

Super recommended! It’s my only K-drama on my watch list right now and it’s not only because of LJK anymore. I love the relationships that these wacky lawyers are building with each other and with the “friendly” gangsters all to fight gangsters who are worse than monsters.
Courtroom antics galore that are most definitely not permissible in real life so you have to have the ability of maintaining your suspension of disbelief through out it, but once you can, you’ll be rewarded with a story that has a lot of heart, is a lot of fun and has a cast that can charm even the most dour person.

      2

Agree 100%. I most definitely do not need a depressing realistic show right now, so I like the Scooby Doo vibe of Lawless Lawyer.

I like that in LL the baddies are already known, so the point from now on is how to make them pay in flesh for each ml of blood they have spilled. I am excited to see the ragtag team of misfits win!

Lawless Lawyer is awesome!! Ok it had really good opening episodes! the way both moms saved baby sangpil was so heartbreaking and brave! I hope he clues her in so they could fight together!

I have to admit that I\’m a noona fan of: Yoo Seung Ho, Park Hyung Sik, Yeo Jingu, and even Jung Hae In is younger even if by half a year. Why are they so handsome?

22
13

Noona killers for sure. Jung Hae In and Yoo Seung Ho are my newest babies.

    3
    1

Yoo Seung Ho came to noona killer status for me since Operation Proposal XD. and weirdly enough I’ve watched almost all of Jung Hae In’s projects but it wasn’t until he played baseball player oppa in Goblin that I really paid attention to him and then omg batman cop was my favourite person ever. ( I didn’t recognize him as Lee Honggi’s younger brother in Bride of the Century)
Yeo Jingoo is my most recent entry to the favourite noona killers list since it was thanks to Circle that I really found myself thinking he was really attractive. XD before that I just thought of him as jailbait hahaha. ooh how things change

      1
      1

I never even noticed Jung Hae In in Bride of the century! I first saw him in While you were sleeping and then again in Prison Playbook. I don’t remember him in goblin either. But Pretty Noona has officially made me love him.

I hadn’t seen Yoo Seung Ho until INAR but since then I want to watch all his works. I started Ruler but never finished. I’m in the mood for saeguk again so that might be my next binge.

        2
        0

I love all of them, too! But Yeo Jin-goo is the only one younger than me, hehe.

    3
    3

They are all younger than me! I always get a little excited when they are close to my age.

      2
      0

yeah my same age actors are all the 87′ liners which are also some of my favourites and they include: Lee Seunggi, Seo In Guk, Jang Geun Seok, Jung Il Woo, Ji Chang Wook, Im Seulong, Choi Siwon <3<3, Lee Minho, Ahn Jae Hyun and more

      3
      1

The ’87ers are an awesome line!

Especially SIG! <3333333 I need him baaaaack

        2
        1

me too! Because i was missing him I just saw a web drama of his called Another Parting from 2014 where he’s an alien who is looking for the reason behind human tears.

@mindy i also didn’t know about it until very recently ^^ I don’t even know how I ended up finding it. probably the black hole of youtube has picked up on algorithms of my most searched artists hahaha.

Yeo Jin-go is the youngest but he has been the longest Noona slayer on my list.

      1
      1

I couldn’t for the longest time because I kept thinking o f him as a child actor and not leading man material XD

        1
        1

          That’s what I should have said :).
I sound like I’ve been cradle robbing him since he was 8 years old lol.

          2
          0

so I used to be called a grave robber when I was teen/early 20 year old because I loved actors who were way older than me i.e Robert Redford and now with kdramas do I have to be called cradle robber?

I told my friend I was married, and she found out I was joking and meant a dead French revolutionary from the 1800s.. so. What does that make me?

Yeah wait are you talking about Marius or Enjolras?

Anyway I love Eddie Redmayne. And Aaron Tveit’s pretty cool, too.

          3
          1

Well, my friend married Enjolras first, so if I so much as implied anything with Aaron, our friendship would be over.

So I was referring to our resident Hufflepuff basset hound. 😂

(Aaron Tveit’s awesome. He can kill me with his pipes, thank you very much.)

This happens to me as well! I usually like older guys, everyone says I like “grandpas”, but with South Koreans is the other way around. I do think it’s gotten worse lately lol, even my mom made a comment the other day about us (my BFF and I) only liking babies now!

    1

lol my mom is all like in dramas like whatever you like but in real life keep it within a decade either younger or older hahaha.

I’ve actually been a little busy so I haven’t been very active online but I did stay up for the SuJu Lo Siento MV collab with Leslie Grace on the 12th, and it’s even more evident that they’re Kings!

I watched ep 8 of Super TV and it was really tough to watch Leadernim sound so unsure of himself. I agree with Heenim that it was really lucky that the older one was Teukie and not him. XD

4
2

seeing his rain and tree drawing, sigh.
his mind and body are begging for him to rest. from being a leader and for being Leeteuk. everyone is putting high expectation on him too much, sm, labelsj, the kids and the fans too. his Park Jungsoo is lost somewhere and he need to find it.

but i do agree. the team probably would not last this long under Heechul leadership lol.

    2
    0

They repeat this same story everytime its heechul n leetuk..and whats with heechul saying he hasnt done this before…he has done this so many times..the psychological tests..n leeteuk forever is talking about this

While it could be true..but i still think these two have assumed this as their variety role..so that it sounds personal for fans ..while they r not budened with revealung something truly personal..

    Pretty smart

So I’ve become a Chaebol’s poor doppelganger. Only the I Am King movie came to mind & Ruler of the mask (though I never finished the drama). What are some good dramas with this trope?

Another drama with this trope is Mask.

It was ok …… the first part more so than the second half. What was particularly good was the villain/bad guy when this whole drama starts out. He was loads of fun to watch!

Prince was really touched by his wife’s defense of him and her trust in is worth since everybody else around him treat him like a no good playboy. and that’s one reason why he’s falling for her. <3

I’m so glad they’re continuing to sub Oh My General. Prince wants to be a “true” man to his strong wife so he daydreams about it. hahaha
