My Princess: Episode 12

Our couple gets backed into a corner, and everyone comes over with a bad case of Noble Idiocy. Well, everyone who has a heart. But thankfully Hae-young’s got it bad enough to go princess hunting. Which of course sends everyone else on the hunt as well. Who needs wabbits when it’s open season on princesses?

EPISODE 12 RECAP

We backtrack a bit to catch up with Yoon-ju’s conversation with Jung-woo, where she lays it out for the naïve and trusting professor. He asks if she’s claiming that Dan is the real princess, but she tells him that it doesn’t matter, since what she’s aiming for is the downfall of the monarchy, complete with the Chairman’s collapse.

He’s shocked, as if he’s somehow surprised to find that she’s a heartless bitch. He hugs her, asking her to stop before it goes too far, but she refuses. I sort of hate this reasoning in dramas (always for the second lead) when they admit that they have nothing left to gain, but since they’ve “gone this far,” they have to keep going. I mean, what’s that about? Real people don’t do that. They cut their losses and save themselves.

Seol grabs Dan into her room to ask what she was talking about—not the princess stuff, but about Hae-young’s father. Yoon-ju comes in and tells Dan to go to the apartment she’s prepared, and volunteers to tell Seol everything.

With a condescending air, (not that she has any others, mind you) she tells Seol about Hae-young’s father chasing her own father down, and asks how it feels to be Romeo and Juliet. Seol trembles, tears forming, but Yoon-ju tells her she hasn’t even begun.

She tells her that today’s news was about the satchel, but tomorrow’s news will be about Hae-young’s father. She puts it all out there in a bald-faced threat: drop the princess act and disappear, or else Hae-young never gets to lift his head in Korea again.

Dayum. At least she’s smarter than I thought. For a while Yoon-ju was both bitchy AND ineffectual, but she’s stepping up her game, I’ll give her that much.

Hae-young walks in and clocks the tension between the two women, and asks Yoon-ju what they were talking about. Yoon-ju lies that she was offering words of comfort (pffft), but then Hae-young hilariously doesn’t believe her for even a nanosecond.

He turns to Seol and tells her to trust him: “Just trust me, and tell me what she said to you.” He pleads with her to tell him so that he can protect her, and Seol wavers for a charged minute, while I scream: TELL HIM! TELL HIM!

But she doesn’t, of course. Because Noble Idiocy is the name of the game.

Hae-young decides he has to tell her about his father, but before he can start, Seol stops him: “I already know.” He reels, thinking that she’s already been told about their dads’ past, but then she covers it up by saying that she doesn’t believe anything her sister says, so he shouldn’t either.

She puts on a smile and asks to rest, so he walks out. But the second he’s outside the door, she starts sobbing. Problem is, Hae-young’s still within earshot. Oh no. Here we go with the Big Misunderstanding. Now he thinks she knows about their fathers and is lying because she thinks they really ARE Romeo and Juliet, and can’t face him.

In the morning, Seol comes to confront Yoon-ju, who’s pleased as punch and smug enough not to hide it. Seol calls her out for being evil enough to make her choose between the two most important people in her life, and agrees to leave the palace.

But she adds that this doesn’t mean she’s running away, or giving up the throne. Seol: “I will return. And when I do…you’re dead.” What’s funny is she says it in the schoolyard way, like “you’re totally dead,” which just makes me want to see them in an actual schoolyard brawl. My money’s on scrappy princess.

Yoon-ju just comes back at her with more threats—there’s no way for her to ever come back, because the second she steps foot back in this palace, the whole world will know about Hae-young’s father. She twists the knife further, blaming her for messing up so many people’s lives, including her beloved Hae-young. The only way to make things right is to disappear forever.

Hae-young hesitates, and then decides to call his father in New York. He leaves a message, awkwardly thanking him for the baseball he sent when he was a kid, and asks him to call. He’s heartbreakingly hopeful when he calls his dad.

He goes to see Seol to ask her for the picture of her with her father, so they can go to the press with their side of the story. She worries about what it’ll do to Dan, and tells him that it won’t be enough anyway; that it’ll eventually lead to DNA tests and the exhumation of bodies. Must be the show acknowledging all the “Go CSI on their asses” comments to the royal satchel hullabaloo.

He tells her that they’ll take it all the way then, and gets her to agree to think about it. She asks for the day to rest (or run away forever, what have you) and he gets up to leave. She stops him to ask if he really believes that she’s the princess.

Hae-young: Yes, I believe. Even if the whole world says you aren’t. Until the day I die, to me you’re the bad princess who stole my entire inheritance.

Aw. How cute that he can say “you stole my inheritance” like it’s a term of endearment now.

He tells her to entrust everything to him and leaves, not realizing that this was her goodbye. Seol packs her bag with a heavy heart, ties her hair into a ponytail with her strawberry hairtie, and heads out.

Hae-young heads for Dan, who’s on the phone complaining to Yoon-ju about how bored she is. Oh, is conspiracy boring you, princess? She freaks out when Hae-young comes knocking at her super-secret hideout, and Yoon-ju tells her not to answer the door or the phone, from anyone but her.

Hae-young knocks and finally just talks to her through the door. He tells her that Seol has evidence to prove that she’s the princess, but she refuses to use it, fearing what’ll happen to her sister if she does. Hae-young tells her that Seol is going to shoulder this on her own, and even as Dan scoffs to herself that Seol is playing the good girl, she does appear to be shaken.

He leaves for now, asking her one last question: who is behind this plot? Really, you don’t know? You’re starting to lose my confidence as the fixer here. He asks her to contact him if she changes her mind.

He then heads for Secretary Oh, and asks for proof that Seol is the princess, since he remembers that Grandfather was so sure of her identity, enough to kneel in front of her at first sight. He doesn’t respond, so Hae-young asks if there’s more to his father’s involvement than just pursuing Seol’s father.

Again, no answer, but Secretary Oh implies that Hae-young’s dad is connected deeper than he’d like for Hae-young to know. He decides he’s had enough of other people telling him about his father, and vows to find out straight from the horse’s mouth.

He turns to ask one last thing…does Yoon-ju know all this too? Secretary Oh can’t believe that Hae-young is accusing Yoon-ju of being behind the conspiracy, when they’re family. Hae-young apologizes, but tells him that he can’t trust anyone right now.

He returns to the palace and finds out that Seol took off, so he heads to Mom’s house to look for her there. Well if she went there it wouldn’t really be running away, now, would it? He promises her mother that he’ll take care of Seol.

Meanwhile, Seol is at the police station inquiring after the accident that killed her father. They tell her that incident reports aren’t kept that long (What?) and she hits another dead end. But she remembers something, and heads to her father’s friend the fisherman.

She asks if they remember anything about her and her father being chased, and he does recall that they did leave suddenly in the middle of the night, without a word. Soon after, a well-dressed man in an expensive car came to inquire after them. They add that they called the number in the newspaper ad looking for information on her father a million times, but always got the runaround. It was only through Park Hae-young that they had eventually gotten through to her.

Seol stays the night in Jung-woo’s office, scared and alone. The next day she calls the number herself, and asks the Daehan Group secretary for the list of everyone who called this number with information. She says that almost all of it was useless and refuses to hand it over, but Seol threatens to go straight to the Chairman, which does the job. She spends all day calling everyone on the list, to no avail.

Hae-young broods in his apartment, and decides to call Seol’s friend Sun-ah. She tips him off that it looks like Seol spent the night in the office, but thinks she won’t be back. She promises to call if she returns.

Hae-young makes another call to his father, and this time he pleads with Dad to call him back. He ends up asking if he killed Lee Ahn, and begs for an answer. God, what a question to get on your voicemail.

Seol plods through her list, and finally comes upon a call from the States, from a James Park. She frets over having to use her limited English, then decides that he’s a Park, so he’s probably Korean. She calls, and it’s the same voicemail greeting that Hae-young’s been getting the last two times he’s called his dad. She leaves a message asking for information on her father.

Hae-young calls Yoon-ju over and asks if she knows where Seol is. He says that he’s sorry, but he hasn’t been able to do anything all day, and then it occurred to him that Yoon-ju might have put a tail on Seol, and before he knew it, he was calling her. He tells her he doesn’t care why she had her followed, but to just tell him where she is.

Yoon-ju agrees to tell him, but says that Seol can’t return to the palace, no matter what. Hae-young: “I can’t hear a word you’re saying right now. Where is Seol?” Ooh, I love the urgency. Hot.

He finds her at the coffee shop where she’s just been discovered by a crowd of people, and when he finds her stuck in an altercation over spilt coffee, he just yells at her for being such a mess without him for one day. Oh, all about YOU, is it?

In the car, he asks if she’s going to run away again, and she says that until she can find out about her father’s past, she’s not going back. Hae-young: “Do you really think that my father and your father…” She doesn’t answer, but asks him if he believes in his dad.

He says it’s his only hope right now, and tells her that they’ll find out the truth together from now on. Well thank goodness for that. Not much more broody separation I can take.

And then he takes her to…Jung-woo’s house? Well that’s a surprise. Or are they staying there…together? Oh, hells yeah. Why didn’t this happen sooner?

Yoon-ju gets word that the threesome is shacking up at Jung-woo’s house, but she doesn’t have the same reaction as me. Hm. She then gets yelled at by Grandpa for letting Seol disappear under her watch, and her father realizes that she’s more involved than he thought.

At the palace, Team Seol hunkers down for an afternoon of internet damage control. Cute.

Back at Three’s Company Bungalow, Hae-young starts opening refrigerator doors like he owns the place, and drags Jung-woo out to let Seol wash up in privacy. At the store, he buys steaks for dinner, adding for Jung-woo’s benefit that it’s the cut that Seol likes, and he likes what the princess likes.

Jung-woo actually rolls his eyes at Hae-young’s childishness, but that doesn’t mean he’s above it all, and picks an expensive cut for himself, since Hae-young is buying. They return home to find Seol asleep on the couch, and Hae-young snipes that Jung-woo should own a larger couch so she didn’t have to scrunch like that.

He starts to ask for a blanket but Jung-woo’s on top of it, and when he tenderly covers her with the blanket, Hae-young tells him to just place the blanket, minus all that unnecessary touching. HA.

Jung-woo asks why on earth he came here, and Hae-young says it’s because he didn’t think Yoon-ju would come here, even if she knew where they were. Jung-woo tells him that he doesn’t know Yoon-ju very well, and the way he sees it, she’ll just end up getting hurt one more time because of Hae-young.

He then tells Seol she can get up now, since they’re done talking. Seol opens her eyes sheepishly, and asks how he knew. Jung-woo’s familiar with what she looks like when she’s really dozing off, and tells her that he brought home dinner. Hae-young: “I’m the one who paid for it, and you’re taking all the credit.”

The doorbell rings, and Jung-woo guesses that it’s Yoon-ju. Sure enough, she comes in and asks to speak to Seol alone.

Yoon-ju scoffs, “This is where you ran off to?” Seol: “It must make you jealous, that I’m with both the men you refused to let go of.” Nice. Yoon-ju tells her to shut up, but Seol doesn’t back down: “This must be your true face. Let’s be friendlier. So I can see all your sides.”

Yoon-ju tells her to go see Grandpa and tell him that she won’t be the princess anymore. Seol asks what her proof is that Hae-young’s father killed her own. She tells Seol to go see the Chairman, who will give her the proof she needs, since he knows how it all went down.

Hae-young interrupts them and takes Seol by the hand. Yoon-ju tells him to let go, by the Chairman’s orders, but Hae-young tells her to blame it on him—that he took Seol away, and then he does.

He tells her not to meet Yoon-ju anymore, especially alone. Yes, thank you. She asks where they’re going, and he says where doesn’t matter, as long as nobody knows…since they’re going somewhere alone, just the two of them. Rawr?

Hae-young: I wasn’t going to do this because your heart is in hell and I didn’t want to just make myself happy, but…I’m just going to be the bad guy.

As in: Being alone with you makes me inappropriately happy in your time of crisis, but to hell with it, I’m gonna drag you away to a secluded spot and just be happy. As in: Swoon.

They pull up to a house in the countryside, and when Seol walks up, she has a memory of Hae-young’s father, coming to greet her at the door.

COMMENTS

I have no doubt that Hae-young’s father is as misunderstood a Noble Idiot as his son, so there’s bound to be some good that comes out of finding her memories in that house. But in the end, we’re just going to be waiting, and waiting, and waiting, for Mr. P Senior to show his face and clear it all up, for the love of all that is holy.

And until that time, I’m with Hae-young. Let’s just wait it out with some happy times, yeah? If you had to leave Jung-woo’s house (which by the way was sorely underutilized, despite the stirrings of jealous awesome) then let’s at least take the romance up a notch, eh?

Perhaps by some miracle that house is deceptively small inside, and has only one bed and one shower. And one blanket.

What I like about this drama is that the couple is always sweet and funny together, and that characters catch on to each other’s motivations rather quickly. What drives me kinda bonkers is that they’re less perceptive when it comes to the big-picture stuff, which is frankly a little hard to believe, as well as frustrating. (I was frankly bored to tears by yesterday’s episode, which was just dramatic pause after dramatic pause, and I was like, “Spit it out already! We knew this plot was coming since Day One!”)

I can see every play in this drama’s playbook forty miles away, which leaves me going “Yeah, check. Next?” a lot more often than I’d like. If this drama had more surprises and played a little more loose and free (like showing up at Jung-woo’s House of Mine’s Bigger Than Yours) then I’d be a much happier camper. Less broody, more kissy. Chop, chop!

I'm so frustrated with this ep. To tell you the truth, I fastforwarded to all the HY-LS parts, hoping for some nice romantic moments. I know I'm that shallow. But I was bored with the whole ep. Even the HY-LS moments were dull. The only saving point was the part where HY went marketing with JW and the tussle over the blanket.
Boring, boring, boring.

I just don't get how a couple in love can act so distant with each other. Oh sure there were the long looks and tearful eyes, but no touching, no hug, no kiss. There were so many almost moments which ended in zilt. In the bedroom, HY stepped forward and presumably held her hands....I say presumably cos we never get to see that, strangely enough. Instead the camera focussed on their faces. Huh? Why do I get a feeling that the director and writer are against showing any intimacy between these two almost-lovers? I can't call them lovers cos all they have to show so far is a kiss, with one half intoxicated. And even in the hand-holding scenes, it's always him grabbing her hands and whisking her away to safety....blink and you'll miss it.

I feel so frustrated. The part in the bedroom is a classic example of how frustrated I feel. There they are, standing very close together, and they .... just talk. No hug. No caress on the face for an obviously-distressed LS. Talk. More talk. Then bye bye. HY exits.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I compare this to the other pair in the Taiwanese Love Buffet which aired its most recent ep last week. Again two people. The girl and the guy. She is very distressed. She is crying, tears pouring down her face. He stares at her, then slowly reaches out, first with one hand to wipe off a tear on one cheek, then the other hand to wipe off another tear on the other cheek. Then he gently strokes her hair, puts his arm around her shoulders and tenderly lowers her head to rest against his shoulder. What a beautiful scene. It brought tears to my eyes. GO DA YE!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

I want something like this in MP. To show us that he loves her. How can whole eps go by without any demonstration of love between the two????? It is so WEIRDDDDDDD. I keep expecting something, anything, every ep from them. BUT NOTHING EVER HAPPENS.

OMG!!! Totally agree with you! I couldn't have said it any better. I've been feeling the same way. There have been soooooooo many missed opportunities for them to "show/display" their affection towards one another......but in the end, we get ZERO, NADA, ZILCH! It's so frustrating!

I really don't wanna get my hopes up for ep. 13...so they better show us something (is all I gotta say)...but if nothing happens in that secluded cottage, then I'm gonna march myself (& bring translators...haha) to the MBC building and protest!

I find this to be true of most of the Kdrama's I've watched.

IRL, once you decide to "be" with someone, you pretty much don't ever take your hands off each other.

That was why Coffee Prince was so much fun; they went against the norm.

Maybe, hopefully, that is why we have cottage-verse.
So HY can relax and enjoy the Seul...

totally agree with u YY , I really can't feel the love between those two since it's all and just talk talk and more talk , I so love when a guy wipes the girl's tears or when he touch her hair and cuddle her but we didn't see this between MP's main couple which is making their love story very cold , and top it I don't know till now when did they fall in love and when did they know that they love each other

I'm really not bothered by the lack of "skinship" btwn the 2 leads; LS is the princess afterall and it's not like HY can get all hot and heavy w/ the princess, esp. since there are political ramifications, much less familial ones.

Disagree. This episode was about Hae Young getting control. Girlfriday and you guys missed it. I was really engaged and while there is a lot of cute in this show, remember that cute with no story is equally boring, or shall we remember back to Mary Stayed Out All Night--all cute, good chemistry--no story.

Political power plays. OMG this episode was packed with them, but so subtle and so like our Hae Young that you missed it.

Plus I hate the American dramas where the girls spread their legs every few episodes and you're thinking, "OMG another guy in a week? Really?" The kisses lose meaning as they do more and more of them, where as in K-dramas, they are a real event. In American it's like, "Oh another guy for the slut." I think the tension of, "Will they kiss, won't they?" is more interesting than watching a slut in action. It's SUPPOSED to be frustrating.

This episode featured Hae Young working really, really hard for Seol. But no one else saw what I did.

I think this is the work of the Secret Garden/City Hall writer and political dramatist... We forget that Hae Young ain't that stupid. He's really a good diplomat. And Man, the acting matches perfectly with the subtle nature of it all.

Do you REALLY think that Hae Young didn't know it was Yoon Ju? Hell no. He's not that dense. And he showed it at least 3 times this episode. That guy can pull strings like no one's business. (I love him more for it, especially when he's doing it for Seol's sake who just doesn't get politics.)

bd and yoonmi, you have to excuse YY for thinking aloud about her (sexual errr sensual) frustrations with MP, haha! just her style to hassle, hahaha! she doesn't mean harm, did you, YY?...(well, unless we hurt grampa's feelings...then we just picked a fight to death (right, YY?)

anyways, even if we joke around about the lack of skinship here in MP, in reality we would never trade this for all the sex without sense in most western films (at least I speak for myself here).

more mystery, more sexy ;-) but love that we can be open and joke about it in a good way. Yoonmi, Im thoroughly with you on this thing...and I think the writers are in the same wavelength that is why they deleted some of the kiss scenes from being shown. in a higher level, if this is a show that is supposed to show SK's monarchy, they would not want their royalty to be tarnished or be treated so casually in that sense. So I guess they want to keep it cool and if there should be kisses and all it will be after the rings are on their fingers ;-)

sorry, guys! we really have to wait for the special episode with the add-on singing in the shower concert extravanganza ;-)

I 'm with you , these two epi 11 and 12 are blending well of comedy , drama , romance , angst . Romance only , not enough time to built relationship as in American show seems more sexual than romance with i really don't need those kind of movies / drama .
In these epi HY and LS are in the middle of solving 20 year old mystery , they can not be romantic as kissing , in bed , holding hands dreaming of their love , there are so many difficulties they have to deal with .HY , Handsome Prof are smart men the know how to he true color of Curator .And LS is smarting up now , i can not wait to see how they decode the mystery created by Grand Pa .

Your recaps are so great! They make watching the episodes unnecessary, NOTTT. The chemistry between PHY and LS is more than sufficient reason to watch, and our "disliking" Yoon Ju means she's a damn good actress, but it does not take away the feeling of wanting to attend her funeral :) hahaha :) . Die Yoon Ju so the leads can be happy together, 'cause if this doesn't happen at the end, I think it's my funeral that'll be happening because of death from heartbrokenness.

When the costume designer likes the characters they are generous with the stylish peacoats and the princessy outfits; BUT when they hate the characters they go overboard and dress them up like caricatures of Sully in "Monsters Inc". :-)

:-) Nice meeting you here, Mara! And I love pasta, too. Our local cuisine though might be more similar to those that you find in Puerto Rico because of our Spanish heritage. Samgetang, because I love this chicken dish when I first tasted it during a visit to Korea. Oh! All this talk about food is making me hungry...

*I'm off to cook myself some spaghetti with tomato, parmesan n some mushrooms... yummy *

0

Haha! Where are you from Samgetang? I will be visiting Korea either this year or next because my nephew is being stationed at a U.S. military base in Korea. Can't wait to taste kimchi and of course a lot of the meals eaten in the dramas and drinking Soju. Very exicted! Now if I could just see SSH, Lee Min Ho, and Rain personally, I could die happy. :-) Well, I can dream can't I? I'm practicing korean (languages are a hobby) so I can make the most of the korean experience. Love to travel and learn other cultures! Ciao! Mushrooms on pasta are the bomb!

0

You should try Samgetang, that's the korean dish for chicken soup with ginseng. I first tasted it when I visited Korea several years ago with my sis and friends. I'm from the Philippines so our cuisine is partly Spanish after having been under the Spanish rule for more than 300 years. Korean cuisine abounds here though because of our close ties with the Korean culture (read=Koreans come here by the truckloads to travel, start a business or stay for good). The relationship goes a long way back though. We've been sending them rice after they were devastated under the Japanese occupation. Now the roles are reversed and they are the ones sending us their electronic products and cars. And we are now importing rice instead of exporting them. But that's another long story altogether. Filipino food is as delicious as Korean. And we have our own version of samgetang, its called chicken arroz caldo (spanish term which literally means chicken in hot rice). But instead of the rice cooked inside the whole chicken as in samgetang, in arroz caldo the large chicken pieces are cooked together with the rice in broth. Soooo delicious when you serve it with a hint of lemon juice, some fish sauce, and a generous spoonful of aromatic scorched garlic bits. This is making me really really hungry now...hehehe! I am sure you will enjoy your trip to Korea...with or without actual sighting of Lee Min Ho, Rain and Song Seung Hun in close quarters, hahaha! ;-)

Hi there @girlfriday,

I came across your reviews coz of this drama and my comment isn't about the drama at all. Actually I enjoy reading your synopsis more than watching the drama which sometimes struggles too much for my taste. But your reviews are as funny, tense, hilarious, awesome as a a novel and I keep reading just for your sake. You can describe the wholy story so good, I love it! Thank you very much!
I hope, you'll find time to read your comments :D

The subject of the movie it's a bit??? unreal but I like K dramas. That ' why I've seen it before in sangeuk drama - disappear for ever but they never do it. Am I so untruthfully ??? I think that it's not for me. Sorry. Too much cries for nothing. Hope to end it well. Now I've got a problem with my government about sanitary and learning. It's really awful what's happening. Hope to post it on my facebook.

Her history with him has not been stable, though.
He kissed her on the steps, and told her it didn't happen.
He agreed to marry another woman.
She begged him not to leave with YJ-witch after the drinking, and he rebuffed her.

If all that had happened to me, I would be as afraid to say something else, too.

can u imagine the rating and the legion of SQUEEEEEEEEEEE fans if this drama went against the norm n be TOUCHY! 'shake head' isnt this the purpose of TV drama to gain fans and fame, why waste such a BEAUTIFUL couple.. my heart bleeds on all the missed opportunity.

Luckily, i have pretty HY to make up the losses :)

Hope SSH and KTH will cash in on their chemistry by acting in a 'SEXY' movive ... I heard Kmovie is liberal on this matter - keeping all my figures and toes cross for it to happen!!

So. Went to bed early yesterday like an old person and I missed commenting about this episode.

First of all, this was such a boring episode. The most boring episode. I really liked yesterday's episode, actually, because OF ALL THE CUTE and then this one gives us NO CUTE + too much of Yoonjoo's bitchface = totally unbearable.

Like others, I am pretty sure Yoonjoo's dad is The Final Boss. You know, like in the video games. And Yoonjoo ends up only being a small pawn of his. But the true man of evil? Yoonjoo's dad. He's the one who has hidden the whereabouts of Seol for twelve years. If that's not suspicious, I don't know what is.

Ay, Song Seungheon, your head tilt frustration scene when you were leaving the second message on your dad's phone? I COULD NOT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. (Okay, got that out of my system.)

See, this episode was so boring I don't even have anything to say about it. Except that I look forward to the next one. The couple snugly snugly in a cottage? I think so. Copious shower scenes, possible awkward bathroom encounters? Do I look forward to this? Bet yo money on it, sistah. But really, I shouldn't get my hopes up, because, after all, this is the stupid editing scene that DEPRIVES US OF KISSES.

Oh. And I really want that green military coat of Haeyoung's. Ohmygod HIS PEA COATS. HIS COATS. Might I say, I was REALLY liking that one combination of his - it was a three-piece suit I think possibly in tweed that was coffee-brown colored, but I loved that he chose a maroon-colored button up, no tie, omfg I WAS DYING OVER HIS THREE PIECE SUIT. SERIOUSLY. WHOEVER IS COORDINATING HIS OUTFIT, PLEASE DO THAT FOR MY FUTURE HUSBAND.

On the other hand, I'm definitely not as inspired by the girls' outfits. Isn't that strange?? Yeah, makes no sense to me either. Although actually a few of Seol's coats are amazing as well... Oh, and seriously, I hate the abundant fur crap. It's not done well enough to make it decent. The HUGE fur thing is a total man repeller object (and not even in a totally good sartorial way, it's like UTTER man repeller minus the sartorial points, you know)..

Methinks SSH's stylist for MP took a bunch of things from my closet.

For the characters of LS, HY and the good prof., the stylists have done a good job (aside from the fact that some of the skirts/dresses that LS wears as the princess are a bit on the short side); much better than the dreck in Secret Garden.

Since that episode, where people are all pointing their fingers to Mr.P senior, I've been having this strange feeling that he wasn't the one who killed Seol's father. It seems to me that it is the most "trusted" secretary (the bitch's father) who has been doing all the dirty work ever since. I mean, her daughter is bitchy so I doubt if he's really clean and godly! Like father like daughter right? lol

I also think that if Mr. P senior was really the one behind these things, then why did he give Seol that strawberry ponytail. Too kind for a murderer right? The fact that he might be the one who accompanied Seol and Seol's father to the orphanage also makes me think that he is really the one who has been protecting the royal family. I absolutely don't think a murderer is kind enough to let Seol live and fucking put her in good hands if he could just kill her just like her father.

Definitely, someone (the secretary) is plotting how to make Mr. P senor the bad guy in this story (enough to make him leave the country) so there's no one to protect the royal family anymore.

Seriously, it seems to me that the secretary (and his family) has a lot to gain if the monarchy is destroyed. They would just have to make Hae-Young and the bitch get married to get all the grandpa's money.

I'm going to laugh when I find out that Haeyong's dad is actually seol's father because they swapped identities because they were in a bad predicament, as most people in the 80s were (and i'm not talking fashion) and its no ones fault who died. But you know thats how k-dramas MIGHT go.

Maybe i'm overthinking things here, but then again my ludidcrousness stems from other unbelievable dramas i have watched.

Ahh!! I can't wait to see the next episode. I totally agree with everyone. I just knew, darn it, that the dad wasn't that bad of a guy.
Ever since Ep.7 when the topic of the dad was first introduced, there was always this nagging feeling of foul play.
Depending on how you interpret the conversion between both fathers it could be very misleading, and taken into bad context. Though if you listen again when Hae Young comes in and tells his dad who brought him, the "old man" the dad mumbles under his breath really sounds like he's talking about Mr. Oh rather than his own father.
Then again I might just be jumping the gun; since they haven't actually verified the father's innocence, but with K-dramas -especially this one, where there are so many cliches cramped into it, the end really is sorta obvious.

Thanks for the entertaining recaps. I almost don't need to watch the drama. It is interesting to get the lowdown on all the cultural and language nuances. I recently watched "Someday" and really, really enjoyed the initially thwarted female of a love triangle. It is amazing and interesting to see how they developed her character and how wise she is. I would like to see more of her type of personality in dramas. She is more interesting and praiseworthy than the lead female. She is truly someone that can be admired. Getting so tired of the stereotypical females; both stupid ones and evil ones. But, anyway -- SSH looks great in navy blue!

Slap me silly, but it has ocurred to me that Park Tae is really Seol's father, the prince, and Seol's ajussi (who she thinks was her father) is really Hae Young's father. Anyone interested in placing a bet? Why else the reference to Seol's ajussi being a cryer and her father an athlete? The real bad guy could be the chairman, because Seol was hidden from him for 20 years. It sounds farfetched, but there's always a red herring in these dramas so expect the unexpected. As long as LS and HY stay together, I don't care who else is who. I want a happy ending please.............

OMG, these are from Episode 2 recap:

Scene: LS & HY are watching the movie:
1. The one thing she (Seol) does remember: that Daddy dropped her off at the orphanage, saying, “I’ll be right back.” She smiles wistfully, as she adds that “right back” has taken a a really long time. HER AJUSSI/FATHER? WAS KILLED BY A CAR AND COULD NOT HAVE TAKEN HER TO THE ORPHANAGE. WHAT????

Scene: She is speaking with the chairman after HY has taken her to him for the 1st time
2. Grandpa shows Seol a picture. She recognizes it as Emperor Sunjong. He begins to tell her the story of how Emperor Sunjong entrusted his son to a loyal man, to take him into hiding and bring him back when the country was re-stabilized. LOYAL MAN? Oh my gosh, now I'm really confused.

Since I read the english subs, I don't know if the translation from korean has a reference to the orphanage.

If someone speaks korean, please review episode 2 and let me know if English translation or recap are correct.

Her father *didn't* take her to the orphanage... I'm betting it went down like this:

Hae Young's father took Seol after Seol's father died to the orphanage. This was because he wanted to protect Seol from Hae Young's grandfather (his father). This was the wish of Seol's father.

When the grandfather found out, he got hopping mad at Hae young's father. They got into a HUGE fight which resulted in the banishment of Hae Young's father. The grandfather was too proud to ask Hae Young's father where Seol was.

Hae Young's father probably planned to pick up Seol at a later date, but due to being deported and banished he couldn't fulfill the promise.

This is what the writers are trying to get us to believe so far.

Ajussi==Hae Young's father.
Ajussi, I'm betting anything, was NOT enemies with Seol's father. (You don't take children to such events... seriously. Just doesn't happen.) They fought a little over the restoration... and both decided it was best not to do it for a variety of reasons.

Grandfather will NOT Friggin' give up. Causes Seol's father's death, entrusts his son with Seol for a while, but gets double crossed.

Done.

The thing is that while there is I am hitting you over the head now plot points, they are also sowing in subtler ones... like the strawberry hairtie. On beat it showed up again this episode! Just like I predicted from last episode!

The subtle yes from Hae Young, and finally the power play with Dan at the door.

This drama does put smaller points in, but because it's a light breezy drama, I bet people tend to miss it more rather than dissect it.

I also smell something about Seol's mother coming up. I bet you anything that the restoration couldn't come forward because of Seol's mother. Commoner does not make for a good Queen.

I'm thiiiiiiis close to writing fanfic to keep myself sane.

And, yes, another shower scene (or some other shirtless scene) would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my staring hard at HY's torso is doing anything to help with that, although it may be causing eye-strain :s Really, the writers should help us out, here.

Disagree. 'cause he was shocked at his daughter's behavior and said she could "go back now" which means that I think he's covering for a deeper truth about the grandfather and some assumptions about HY's father which are not true.

Required fields are marked *

Interesting, Yoonmi (btw, are you korean, if I may ask?).

I was thinking that YJ's father's loyalty to grandpa is kinda suspicious (even sacrificing their own wealth, which they have earned after all those years of service, and his own daughter's future...marrying her off to the grandson, good thing she likes him back) so I guessed that maybe the grandpa is covering up something in Sec Oh's past for him to give his undying devotion to the old man. My theory was he could be the one driving the car that ran over Lee Seol's father to his death.

But, as you mentioned, when he was faced with his own daughter's scheming he seem to be genuinely bothered. So I'm kinda not sure now. Unless, well, of course he is good in covering up his own emotions or deceiving others into thinking of him as the good and loyal secretary.

I disagree with girlfriday that Hae Young doesn't know who is pulling the strings. I think the scene with Dan was supposed to be a lot more subtle than she's giving credit for.

It's more like a play of, "I know that you know that I know who it is... but I'm going to pretend that I don't know so you can give that person up on your own."

The acting, subtle, again from our master genius (like the subtle yes when Asked if he would like Seol to give up the throne) points to this direction. He doesn't have any doubt or question in his voice when he's asking. He's pretty damned sure who it is--but it's easier for Dan to give her up if she does it herself. Subtle power play!! (That or I've watched too many Sageuk, like Jang Geum.)

If Hae Young had played it as, "I know you talked to Yoon Ju and she's behind this." Then it's not as much of a power play, because that's forcing the hand and Dan won't give up the info to a larger crowd, which is what Hae Young wants.

I lives for my subtle acting. And in this case I see it as Hae Young being damned smart--look at the face when he asks her. Listen to the tone of the voice... Song Seung Hun-ssi is a brilliant actor for the more subtle moments, like the sideways stare.

Flatter voice rather than distressed, calm and relaxed, so he's not anxious to know. All points to Hae Young as a political genius.

Kim Yoonmi, you are a genius! Of course, our beloved Hae Young is not a diplomat for NOTHING.

We are being lulled with all the cute and we have missed the boat because we have let the cute overrule our brains.

BUT I'm on board with you on this!

And can I also mention: Hae Young got himself inside the palace by playing into the President (of the country)'s secret plot to stop the restoration. But we see that he does not let himself be led to play the President's game to the bitter end when he realized that he has more to lose (LS) than he would gain by sticking with the secret plan.

The President had been had. HY got back his house and belongings, credit cards et al plus the girl thrown in but he was not foolish enough to play into his hands when it was his time to deliver (photo-op with princess and the orphans).

He is more than eye-candy. I am reminded of Kim Gab Soo's role in SKKS as the Left Prime Minister and father of Lee Sunjoo. Brilliant strategist, that's him. ;-) HY is in the same mold...

Yes! And later when he hinted at Yoon Ju's dad "Are you sure she's not involved in this." Doesn't anyone see what he's up to? He KNOWS. Otherwise why does he say after that point, "Don't stay with Yoon Ju, especially alone."

He's a subtle guy that knows his power plays. By planting it in the secretary's ear, he gets access to WHO? His grandfather who will not listen to him! By isolating Seol, what does he get out of that? Time for all those suggestions to properly brew. Our Hae Young is a genius.

It's not Noble Idiot Syndrome, it's the I'm so clever, I'm going to miss your radar syndrome. The only Noble idiot in this entire episode was Seol, but she does tend to be dense. Hae Young figured out a plan once he was forced back. He's quick. That's why we need a dense character.

Did you see? He planted seeds. He planted seeds with the professor, Yoon Ju, and his grandfather and the secretary.

With the professor? Of course, why do you think he *really* dropped by. Of course to let him know what Yoon Ju was up to. 'cause strategically he could have just gone straight to the cottage with Seol... but nope. He went there... and knew that Yoon Ju would come there. Strategic move.

He called his father. When the first message didn't work, he left one that was larger. He needed to get all of the strings to work together. Notice the urgency in his voice that he needs it now? Why? Why does he need it now? Because by that time he's already pulled the other strings and started to pull them into place. He has a plan.

He's got the strings... Why doesn't anyone else see it so clearly?

People thought this episode was boring. I was fascinated by the subtle politics and the workings in Hae Young's head. The guy is a genius!

Again, HY is not a diplomat for NOTHING. There is a reason why they (the writers) chose this career for him. (I know! It was also an excuse for him to wear all those smart trench coats and 3-pc suits all the time, haha!). I think the character HY chose this career cos he wanted to be in foreign affairs since his father was banished from the country and what better way to track him down without the grandpa being suspicious but through the network that he had built over the years based on his job connections/exposure.

His plans have been momentarily derailed with the entry of Lee Seol in the picture. Literally and figuratively, she rocked his world and some of his well-laid plans came tumbling down. He did not bargain that his heart will be one of the casualties but with the appearance of the empress' satchel and LS running off to do her own investigative work (who thought she had it in her to take on such a cerebral task?), he thought it was time for him to get her into the secret diplomat plan.

First step: identify the schemers.
Second Step: let the schemers know in an obtuse way that he knows (Dan, YoonJu, YJ's father -- they were all given the subtle hints before they took off for the cottage, ergo..)
Third Step: isolate Seol from the evil schemers and, by the sounds of it, he may have other plans as well (oh show, please, hehe!).

All the pieces are now in place. Time for some real lovin' now in the cottage hehehe ;-)

Kidding aside, I have no probs with how the story is moving along up to this point. Same as you, Yoonmi, I hear the wheels in HY's mind a-turnin'. I love these brilliant strategist types...my cup of tea. I dont even mind that he is also too lovely to look at and such a fine and dandy fellow :-) to our adorable Seol :-)

Because he's not arrogant enough to want to get accolades for his moves, but he still wants to help in that non-White Horse on a Knight way. Also I like the fact that Hae Young through his support of Seol isn't being so self-congratulatory--it's more of, "What's my next move?" And the fact that he doesn't restrict her actions at all, but tries to work that into the bigger plan he has and adapts it over time. *sexy* Super sexy. I may be overly excited to see he has a forehead. (I'm really getting tired of the 70's/BOF inspired hair-in-guys-eyes look. It was adorable on Luke Skywalker, but notice how Hans had a forehead. *gets off soap-box*)

Anyone else bewildered by Yoon-Ju's extra long wookie pelt fur vest? I don't know the average income for political assassins/diabolical ex girlfriends but I would imagine she could afford better than a stitched together bath mat. Plus a longer skirt would have made it look less like she marched out of the palace without pants.

as i said in another reply to an earlier post, the costume designers hate the character/s so much that they go overboard and re-create Sully in "Monster's Inc" in our two leading evil b***hes. Abominable Snowman, that's what Jomo calls her and Dan, because of all the fur (they look bigger than what Kim JooWon's mom in Secret Garden wore. And she owned department stores and other enterprises...)

I like Abominable Snowman or Sully as descriptions, my like is equal to my dislike of Seol-crushing Yoon-Ju.

Omg, that last pic is love! Haha.
The enormous ego these two have in the drama, and the
sweet interactions between Seol and HY keep it all
watchable. My Princess FTW!

This episode was so booooringgg. I spent all my time squealing "kiss-uh?" whenever LS and HY got close to eachother, only to be disappointed every.single.time. I demand much, MUCH more cuteness in the next episode! Writers, are you listening? Down with the fur-clad android and more of the cute! MOAR!

What happened to all those tender moments? Like when they watched Roman Holiday and he stuffed popcorn in her face? Or when he took care of her while she had a fever? Or, or...recollecting all the past greatness is just making me upset, show. You've been depriving me, you really have. And I am thisclose to fast-forwarding all the Yoon-joo scenes...because if I don't I just might have to buy a plane ticket to Seoul just to slap a bitch cuz no one else seems to be doin' it. Fo' real!

And that "cottage" you teased us with at the end better be the cottage formerly known as "love shack," if you know what's good for you, show.

I'm all for the cute, funny and endearing interplay btwn the 2 leads and better yet, when the good prof. gets in on the action - until, that is, it gets ruined by the "evil one" (the scene at the Prof.'s house and the market was a lot of fun), but I don't mind the less fun and more angsty moments of the past 2 eps. as much as GF.

Such moments are necessary in a drama, even a romcom, and they did a good enough job where I felt something (not as strong as say, "Coffee Prince", but much more than "Secret Garden" - I'd say somewhere btwn "MGIAG" and "Coffee House" - which is pretty good in my book).

I really like the relationship btwn HY and the good Prof.; at this point, they are more or less allies and on somewhat friendly terms, and yet, the 2 can't help trying to one-up each other, esp. in front of Seol, even tho, the Prof. clearly never really had a romantic interest in Seol.

The 2 most bothersome things are (1) the Chairman being so seemingly oblivious to YJ's evil scheming and (2) the prof. still carrying around feelings for YJ despite having to be aware that YJ is devoid of any humanity now.

Didn't totally hate Dan like some at the beginning, but she really lost me when she dumped the treats mom made for Seol at the bus-stop.

Dan, going along w/ YJ's evil plan, even tho she knows she has no hope of becoming the Princess shows that she is just doing it out of spite since she really has nothing to gain (and could very well lose mom's affections in the process); it was also totally b!tchy for Dan to make mom cry and feel guilty a couple of eps. back - but despite all this, I still think Dan, unlike YJ, still has some humanity in her and does the right thing for once later on.

what is the ultimate reason of joon ju for doing all these crazy things? why is she against the restoration of the monarchy? is it money??? but.. she already has a good position in the palace right? i bet she's already getting a lot of money from that. so.. probably greed? and that she wants more??

what exactly will happen to yoon ju if the restoration of the monarchy fails? is she going to get married with HY? (uh bec i don't think that will happen anymore now that he's in love with seol.) is she going to get a part of dae han's wealth?? i really don't understand now what really drives her to do all these evil things.

She hates the old man Park. It looks like her father missed a lot of supposed father time for her because of the old man. She's supposed to gain everything back by marrying the old man's heir, for whom she turned her back on her true love, but princess surfacing ruined it. And again, it was the old man's doing. No wonder she speaks behind him in spite and acts against his will without him knowing.

Congratulations to Park Ye Jin as Yoon Joo for Worst Villian of the Year. 12 episodes half past and she hardly did anythin except messing up with the princess' mind. Like WTF?!

I think people enjoy her acting but hate the character and that may be affecting the ratings. I like to FFWD her scenes, but must admit she is the meat and potatoes of the drana 'cause until now everything has played out as she schemed. Unfortunately she dominates the drama, but it only makes us root harder for LS and HY.

GF, I love your imagination about the house in the countryside.

It is time to have more romantic scenes in next week's episodes because Valentine's Day is coming!

thanks for the recap! It is really fun to see all the different views over here.

For me I am pretty ok with how things are and really like HY in this episode ...not just how he is working on the crisis but how he step up on the relationship with LS.

Anyone notice that he started addressing Seol by Seol rather than Lee Seol,.. tell her that she can go to his room without permission, tell her that they will find the truth together. And he is going public with his affections.. leaving his thoughts on her twitter, telling the professor that he likes what LS likes...and yippie.. this time he go to fetch LS at the end...holding LS's hand and telling YJ that he is taking her regardless of the consequences

I am all warm and fuzzy from their development episode.

Drama is good, funny, lovely. Casts are good. It has room to be the best of the best in the hand of the other better director.

This drama is good, funny, and lovely. Casts are good.
Kissing is important and necessary in some scenes to create the romantic situation, why they reduce that scenes in many episodes? hm…… I expect that since many prior scenes until now.

It has room to be more perfect in the hand of the other better director. I wish the director of drama Couple of Fantasy directs this drama. I do not like director of Pasta. Pasta is slow & not interesting enough. I do not like the style of director of pasta. He does not have the creative mind.

Anyway, I support My Princess due to they are my favorite casts.
My Princess!!!! fighting!!!!

Thanks for the recap!

I hate the machinations going on in the drama, especially Yoon-ju's smug face. Seol's sassyness is the only antidote. I love her dig, "It must make you jealous, that I’m with both the men you refused to let go of".

I still get the feeling that Jungwoo would reconcile with Yoon-ju, which is what I DO NOT want by the end of the series. just send her away to the states like all the other villains.
