Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #3

girlfriday: Week three of the blazin’ birthday giveaway extravaganza extraordinaire!

javabeans: You know what that means: More presents! Man, what a spoiled 5-year-old Dramabeans is.

girlfriday: Right? If DB were a kid, we’d have one needy brat on our hands.

javabeans: Then again, most 5-year-olds receive presents, and DB’s giving ‘em out. Although I don’t know who gave that kid my credit card info.

girlfriday: Is that what’s going on? That explains a lot. This time we’re giving away a brand new iPod nano, but that’s not the best part. It’s chock full o’ goodies! It’s got a Javabeans Playlist on it, which I’m gonna venture to say is worth more than the player itself.

javabeans: We’ve also got a few more premium memberships to give out to Dramafever, in case you want to get friends/siblings/parents addicted to your drama poison of choice. Because as we know, drama addictions are best shared, not cured.

girlfriday: Yeah, rehab’s for quitters, and we’re no quitters!

javabeans: So get crackin’! By which we mean, please post up lots of nice thoughts for our many many guest posters over the years.

girlfriday: They know how much we appreciate them, but as we know from personal experience, sometimes the warmest thanks comes straight from you guys, so please be generous with the love!

And the winners of Giveaway #2 are…

  • Bethany, winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • PrincessSerenity81, winner of a one-year drama membership to Crunchyroll,
  • and Bluefyre, winner of one $100 gift certificate to Yesasia.

Congratulations! We’ll be contacting you shortly via email. On to the next one!

Giveaway #3

Question: Actually it’s not a question this time, but a prompt: Thank a guest blogger, any guest blogger. That can mean any of our current contributors (i.e., gummimochi, kaedejun, HeadsNo2) or anybody who’s ever written a guest post on Dramabeans in the past. (*Don’t forget to use a valid email address, and please indicate at the bottom of your comment if you are NOT a resident of US/Canada.)

Prizes:

  • 1-year premium membership at DramaFever (US/Canada residents only)
  • another 1-year premium membership at DramaFever (US/Canada residents only)
  • an iPod nano (maybe with some stuff on it, wink-wink).

DramaFever offers free legally-licensed dramas and movies with high-quality English subtitles. With a premium membership you can watch unlimited, commercial-free, and enjoy extra content as well as unlimited mobile device access and high-definition. Check out recently added titles here.

Winners announced: Sunday, January 22, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

To orangy911: thank you so much for doing the recaps for "Me Too, Flower"!
I adore Lee Ji Ah and was anticipating her return to dramaland after the Seo Taiji scandal. But there were so many complications before it premiered that I really thought it was all doomed. Plus, everyone seemed turned off by it, no one planned on watching it...

I didn't think this drama would get recaps on Dramabeans, but I was pleasantly surprised. And I'm sure your caps convinced lots of people to watch the drama.

So thank you once again! I'm relieved that my girl Lee Ji Ah's comeback wasn't a failure, and I'm rooting that her next drama might be even better.

I think that all the recappers are pretty damn awesome for their recaps, but I'd like to thank Samsooki in particular. First of all, props to a guy for admitting he's a K-drama addict! Second of all, he recapped Sam Soon, which was a drama that I'd been hoping to watch but didn't have enough time to. His recaps were great, humorous, and gave me an opportunity to read about a drama that had been on my "to watch" list for a while.

Thank you, Samsooki and everyone else who recaps for Dramabeans!

HeadsNo2. Without a doubt. I have been scanning drama beans everyday seeing if someone decided to recap padam padam, because Kim Bum is in it, and it has a killer plot that is really original.
And then finally, a savior!! :) HeadsNo2, your halftime report (with pictures!!) was fun, inspiring and just exciting to read all around:) keep it up.
Thanks for keeping me in touch with my favorite bromance;)

I love kaedejun's recaps! But big shout out to all the other contributors as well (girlfriday) included. I've been lurking this blog since its wordpress days and DAMN how it has grown. I have to wonder why the Korean press never covered this site. Or did they?

I have decided to de-lurk because this week's prompt reminded me of some posts on this site that rippled the stream of my life and makes me want to say - Thank You!

To Dahee Fanel, for her incisively dismissive wit (Shitty Hunter, anyone?), for sticking resolutely by her unpopular guns and for yearly recaps that make me re-think some of the dramas I have loved (eg. You're Beautiful) and find gems I have overlooked (eg. Friend, Our Legend). Although our tastes don't really converge, and I learned to be wary of her recommendations, thanks so very much for adding to effective deconstruction, not just fan-girling.

To Thunderbolt, whose infectious enthusiasm for 'Jejoongwon' made me to pick up that DVD over 'Road No. 1' and started an interest in medical history that led me halfway round the world to grad school where my advisers have no idea that it all started with a k-drama. Hey, inspiration is democratic, right?

To Sevenses, for the only detailed recap of Beethoven Virus out there. (with so many screenshots of JGS. Yay!)

And since I am unlikely to re-emerge from the woodwork, let me also go off topic and say - thanks for running a brilliant site Javabeans and GirlFriday! (If you even manage to get to this 589th comment..thats amazing.)

I like Dahee Fanel as I do all the guest recappers/reviewers here. But just to set the record straight...

The label "Shitty Hunter" cannot be attributed to her. It came up long before the year-end reviews, and was used, either by Javabeans or Girfriday when City Hunter was still running, either in one of the CH recaps or in the hilarious dialogues about shows that they post now and then. Also it was used again in the year-end survey of favorites for 2011.

I would also like to thank Samsooki, not just for the MNIKSS recaps, which were a fantastic way to enjoy the series as if it were new, but for his many insightful comments over the years. One of the many things that makes Dramabeans special is that it is a community of thoughtful, erudite posters who care deeply about kdramas, are willing to share their thoughts, and are kind and welcoming of the efforts of others.

I just want to thank HeadsNo2, for all of those Tree With Deep Roots recaps, and the Padam Padam ones. They're so witty, and they make me see so much more than if I just watched the episode without any recaps. I'm so grateful that you took the time to recap all of those episodes. Thanks, HeadsNo2! (:

How can I pick only one person to thank!? All of you are so amazing. :)

Personally I have to thank girlfriday, because of their recaps, I found my favorite drama of the year. Flower Boy Ramyun Shop. If I hadn't seen the recaps, I would have never watched... the name seemed cheesy and so unlike anything I would ever like. She is also recapping Moon Embracing the Sun, which is becoming a favorite. Girlfriday, the way you talk about the drama makes me want to try new things :) Thank you for all the hard work.

Congrats Last Week Winners!

I would love to thank gummimochi for all your running man and high kick recaps! I seriously love watching these shows, so I enjoy reading your recaps.. After watching an episode, I read your recaps so that I could understand some parts that were confusing.. I appreciate all of your hard work.. I am not a great writer, so I am a fan of all the writers here in dramabeans.. Thanks for sharing your talents in writing! =)

thanks a lot headsno2 for doing the recaps! especially for the recaps of the history of the salaryman. usually when i find recaps that are not done by javabeans or girlfriday, i wont read them. Jb & GF are my bias. *not a good attitude, i know*
usually I ignore other recappers. i found that they cant make me laugh as hard ad JB & GF do.
but that day, i read recaps of history of the salaryman, and I was like laughing out loud histerically. and the recaps was done b you headsno2. since then, i don't have any discrimination towards any of the guest writers. they have their own way of writing, and they actually are FUNNY in their own unique way :D
so thanks headsno2 for changing my way of thinking about other guest writers. LOVE you! :D

Thank you so much, kaedejun, for your all your music oriented drama recaps!!! I'm especially thankful to you for doing What's Up ^ ^

It's as much fun reading your recaps as watching the drama itself. I can't resist checking the recaps even if I finished watching the episode > <

LOVE your comments and random remarks throughout the recaps XD

ps. I'm converting into Byeong Gun's fan as well. Is it weird that I adore his nervousness?

Thanks HeadsNo2 for great and hilarious recaps! We seem to have similar tastes in dramas, so I've been following your recaps for a while. It always takes everything in me not to read your recap BEFORE watching the actual show (true again this time for "History of a Salaryman")

Thanks again!

and headsno2, i am sooo grateful that you recapped tree with deep roots for us. Your recaps felt like I was going through this whole journey with you and the history of Korea. thank you very much :)

thank you kaedejun for What's Up recaps! However underrated, that show is fast becoming one of my favorites and I wouldn't have started another 18-episode drama without reading a couple of your recaps. I usually watch via english or chinese recaps, but there are many things that can get lost in translation, so I'm grateful the bloggers on javabeans can help capture the full story. I also appreciate your insightful comments :)

also HeadsNo2: thanks for picking up History of the Salaryman and Tree of Deep Roots. These shows rock, as do your recaps, though with sageuks and all the references from Salaryman, there were many issues you helped to clarify and add to my full experience of the show. And High Kick too? woooh that's a lot, I actually picked up the show because of Dramabeans' recaps, I adored the cast but love them more now with this show.

and gummimochi: Running Man is the one Korean variety show I regularly watch for a while now, and I enjoy your hilarious recaps, especially for the episodes I can't catch yet (I'm a sucker for spoilers).

Thanks to Samsooki, for his entertaining and wonderful recaps--particularly for City Hall and My Name is Kim Sam Soon!! Both shows have a soft spot in my k-drama obsessed heart, and it was a fun ride reading your recaps as I gushed over each one!!
In all honesty, you were a strong motivator to why I even watched Kim Sam Soon! You always referenced it in your recaps and made me curious as to why you loved it so much.
Also, as a side note, it's nice to hear from a guy's point of view what they think of a drama--sometimes I wonder if female viewers are biased on a show because of the swooning moments, and it's nice to hear that sometimes the male audience is moved as well :)
Again, thanks for all your hard work and I look forward to reading more of your great recaps!!

I really enjoyed reading the recaps to get another perspective, and I liked the comments too. Thanks for the introduction to my favourite sageuk drama so far :P

Let me 612th the kudos to ALL the Guest Bloggers that have had the chance to wax poetic on DB... and for JB and GF to give them the (wide) opportunity to do so!!

But I must proffer a special shoutout to Sevenses who, as someone earlier mentioned, was the only blogger I could find online that was recapping "Beethoven's Virus." At that time having a teeny-tiny crushlet on JGS, I was over-the-moon reading and drooling over her missives (the gazillion screencaps didn't hurt, either). Granted, several crushes have come and gone since that Golden Drama Year of 2008, but the memories of staying up well past my bedtime just to keep refreshing the site for the latest news will always be a treasured memory. :)

So... fellow JCW Sister-in-Lust, I miss you and I hope you're keeping well and I'll send you a note soon once I return to the States. Kamsahaminda, chingu!!

I'd like to thank Thunderbolt, Dahee Fanel, Sevenses, Samsooki, hjkomo and kaedejun for their Year-End review posts in years past!

It's wonderful to get a range of perspectives on dramas like that, to see how different viewers feel. Like everyone (I assume), I often like a drama that doesn't do so well in the "official" dramabeans discussion, or find a drama very boring (or worse) that there is mad enthusiasm for here. So somehow, those year-end reviews make me glad because my favorite dramas will inevitably be one of the guest reviewers' faves, too. :-)

I want to thank to HeadsNo2, kaedejun, gummimochi, and orangy911 for all of their hardwork.

HeadNo2 - For your work with History of a Salaryman, as well as your recaps of Padam Padam and Wild Romance. I'm saving Tree with Deep Roots for a later date but I

kaedejun - Thank you so much for Romance Town and then Heartstrings. May Madness was, well, mad. And I love that, while I couldn't technically watch all of them, I could turn to your recaps. I read the first two episode recap of What's Up and I liked it. So, I'm going to save your recaps for a later date.

gummimochi - Thanks for your hardwork with Hick Kick and thank you so much for the Running Man recaps. I officially addicted to this wonderful show and you're partially to blame for it.

orangy911 - Me Two, Flower. When no one else was recapping it, we had you. It was almost a cult drama. There wasn't much talk of it and the ratings were low but I fell in love with drama by episode 3. So thank you very much for your recaps. Also, I must say, I love your writing and how it flows so easily. You're also pretty hilarious so thanks for you're little added bits and comments.

Thank you all so much for your hardwork! You're bring a lot to the dramabeans family. :)
