Joo-won in talks to take on Fashion King (no, a different one)

I woulda thought the title Fashion King would be an association to avoid at all costs, but nope, there’s a new movie in the works with that name, and Joo-won will be its hero. (Some articles tout his casting as a sure thing; a couple state that he’s considering and will decide on his next project soon. Take that as you will.)
This Fashion King is not necessarily the same story depicted in the hot mess of a drama starring Yoo Ah-in that aired in 2012, but it’s not entirely unrelated—both drama series and movie are based on a webtoon of the same name. It sounds like the adaptations diverge pretty significantly, though, with vastly different setups and character descriptions, so (fingers crossed) this new movie will bear little resemblance to the TV show.
The movie centers around an ordinary high school boy with a crush on a pretty girl in his class, and in order to appeal to her he decides to transform himself into a stylish hottie. Well, it’s Joo-won so he’s got hottie covered. And while he may be a little on the old side to play a high schooler, he really is the perfect guy to play a shy, boyish character who then turns into a style maven. Even if he weren’t such a chameleon of an actor, the dorky-cool dichotomy seems like such a part of his real-life personality that it should be right up his alley.
Joo-won recently quit his role in the Sunday variety show 1 Night 2 Days to focus more on his his other activities, which was probably necessary given how much he has going on: Following the wrap of his drama Good Doctor, he has been hard at work on the musical Ghost, which will run from November through June, and he’s also got a film awaiting release, Catch Me, co-starring Kim Ah-joong.
Fashion King will be directed by Oh Ki-hwan of The Art of Seduction and hopes to release in April 2014.

His last 1n2d ep(part 2) is airing this sunday, I don't know if I can watch it, I still haven't watch part 1...too sad :(

Me too! I've already downloaded the first part of his last trip but I still haven't watch it yet, it's kim seung woo and bird pd all over again. It actually took me 4 months to finally watch their final ep. And both the final trips were on jeju island, by the way.

I have read an article in dramabeans about Fashion king webtoon will be remake to drama but it's not related with Fashion king which cast yoo ah-in. Because of they have same title, so they change title with Gangnam style but the writer of webtoon is not like with that change title, so I think that's why that drama is cancelled and change into movie. I can imagine how joowon will transform into schoolboy, it makes me remember gaksital, when kangto hasn't become police officer.

but Park Ha Sun is too old looking (no offence). i want Park Se Young or Park Bo Young or Kim So Eun in this. All of them fits a role of a HS student but not Park Ha Sun.

Park seyoung will be busy with her upcoming movie cat funeral, while park boyoung currently still shooting blood boiling youth with lee jongsuk (joowon & pby has been play in don't click movie, so it's little chance pairing them again). And kim so-eun is busy with shooting drama with kim hyunjoong. The rumour of park ha-sun is long time ago back in 2012, so I don't know whether she will take this role.

When I'm thinking joowon acting in highschool role, I always had image flash of Kang dongwon in "Temptation of wolves" lol. So I'm excited about this project ^_^

You're totally right about the chameleon part, Joo Won can transform into such a huge variety of characters, so much so that I completely forget any other character he's played before. It was totally impossible for me to remember that Lee Kang To and Park Shi On are portrayed by the same person when I was watching Good Doctor ! Guy's got some talent.

Aren't there enough good teen actors to play these roles?! Joo Won looks young...but again, not *that* young. I am NOT buying Woo Bin and Min Ho over at Heirs as high schoolers at all!!! They both look way to old and are not selling it for me at all. I'm just pretending they are in college. :)

The story starts in high school and moves as the character transcends into college. So his advent into fashion starts from high school but is the pretty girl and the need into being a fashion maven worth it all even after being in college? That is where the social issue of peer pressure comes in..... The webtoon is highly popular among the youth because of this reason and it is 2 years running...

But the netizens of his DC website are against him and his agency on accepting this role since the webtoon seems to have more than 100k hate comments.
Since all of the matter is in Hangul and the issue is not even clear it would be wise on checking the pros and cons. The production company leaked the news of the casting before even consulting with Sim Entertainment.

Really ? Why do they hate the webtoon so much ? I looked at the link posted above by kuxi and it seems quite funny (a little strange though). Well, it's an adaptation of the webtoon so it depends on how the script is written... Maybe they think joo-won will lost his 'healing' and 'angel' image of park shi-on ? but it seems that he likes to challenge him-self by taking completely different characters...
haha I hope the script is good and he will accept the role :)

Man, this guy really make sure that he's busy all the time.
I used to tired looking at him onscreen because he keep showing up, but after Good Doctor I understand by he's people favorite. His acting was great, I have no doubt he can play anything given to him. Such a talented guy. Hat's up

The conflict schedule is not lie, you only read his part of interview not entirely. Eventhough he has conflict schedule as his reason to leave 1n2d he has personal reason too so it makes him feeling sorry toward his cast members and staff 1n2d. He's now more focusing with acting activity.

I think he just said that to be the nice, humble, little dongseng he is. I totally agree that it's the work of the PD and crew to bring out personalities. He did great with his original crew of brothers. They all worked well together and the show was marvelously entertaining.

Then I remembered he truly first shined in Gaksital with that almost ruthless character. New movie means continous fix of Joo Won, and that's fantastic news.

Joo Won has never let me down, even in 7th Level Civil Servant. Though I must admit that at one point, I feared he would drop a ball, juggling filming Good Doctor, Catch Me(the movie) and 1N2D plus auditioning for GHOST. Yet, he blew me away with such an awesome performance in Good Doctor.
He said on Guerilla Date that he is "greedy" for roles. He is constantly challenging himself in different genres so although he appears in more than 1 project a year, we never see the same Joo Won. When this man acts, you don't see Joo Won the actor, you see the character.
To Korean fans who threw him a question, he gave a list of characters he would like to play and Musa is one of them. I am waiting earnestly for that.

I agree, he's a wonderful actor for his age and so earnest about his projects. He makes me worry for him with all the work and now he quit 1n2d, which he said was his emotional support :( I hope he'll be ok leaving his hyungs(Hang in there Joo won-ah!).

Musa means warrior. I don't fancy saeguk much but I adore Chinese martial arts or sword fighting movies. My dream is that Joo Won will act some kind of warrior or swordsman or a Robin Hood type of character. Think long hair flying, on a stallion riding in the wind, loose robes and a mean sword, LOL.
