New pretty pictures from tvN’s upcoming rom-com Love in Contract

You know you haven’t seen enough stills from Love in Contract yet, so here are some more, since tvN is dropping character stills like hot potatoes — though I’m not complaining, since they’re easier on the eyes than the super air-brushed posters.

The tvN rom-com stars Park Min-young, Go Kyung-pyo, and Kim Jae-young. Park Min-young plays our wife-for-hire, Go Kyung-pyo is her long-time Mon-Wed-Fri client, and Kim Jae-young is a newbie taking her Tues-Thurs-Sat slot.

Conclusion: This will either be the love triangle to end all triangles, or it will be painfully apparent which fake husband is superior and should ascend to fully legitimate husband-hood. As for me, I already know which ship I’m on. It starts with “Kim” and ends with “Jae-young.”

Written by Ha Gu-da, and directed by PD Nam Sung-woo (My Roommate Is a Gumiho, Old School Intern), Love in Contract premieres September 21.

Plenty of promos have been released as the premiere draws near. I'm ready! These stills are infinitely better than the overly edited posters.

*raises hand* I'm joining you on that ship. Though I like both actors and hope their characters have their own positive and enticing qualities. Interesting or endearing traits.

This. Very important. However sabotaging and self serving you to want to play which I'm expecting and have prepped for already, play it fair, and keep it fun.

I echo these sentiments, not just in this show but generally shows that have love triangles involved. Would hate to see a FL get bogged down to some chess piece and not someone who has a say or persona outside of that.

This is what the actors themself said about their characters.

Kim Jae Young: “I tried to make a lot of changes to my appearance by preparing colorful outfits that are different from the ones I’ve shown [to the viewers] so far.” He continued, “Kang Hae Jin looks like a playful child on the outside, but he’s a genuine person on the inside. He has a free spirit, but when he approaches Choi Sang Eun, he is very charmingly straightforward at the same time.”

Go Kyung Pyo: “The set-up of the story is that Jung Ji Ho’s mystery won’t last long. As it becomes revealed in the beginning of the drama, Jung Ji Ho’s charm will be shown. Jung Ji Ho is a figure who slightly lacks social skills. That Jung Ji Hyo is shaken by the feeling of love, and the way he changes will be charming.”

Park min young: “I thought a professional fake wife might actually be a job. And I wanted to express the reason why Choi Sang Eun chose this job in a sincere way so that viewers could empathize with her.”
“First, she’s a self-employed person who doesn’t work at a company. Also, she’s not that young but rich and pretty. I think this itself is different from my previous characters. Unlike my other projects, you’ll see a Park Min Young who isn’t in an office look. I’m happy to show you the styles that I’ve been thinking about,”

When has PMY not been pretty in in a previous role? So, only being rich is a distinct feature this time around.

:-D :-D I am guessing it means she will also ditch those office outfits but still give a professional "vibes".

You're right. We haven't seen or had a chaebol Park Min-young in dramaland. I doubt a chaebol's missing daughter in Healer counts 😁.

@jerrykuvira: IIRC, in Healer, her birth mother was married to the protester turned chaebol. That was such a poignant storyline.

As long as Jung Ji Ho's mystery isn't murder. @reply1988
Or that Hae Jin is his brother.
Or that he's got a horrible rich family.
Actually, I'm getting more and more worried about this "mystery". Kdramas usually mishandle mysteries...
Is he a genius in hiding?

Thanks for sharing these pictures I was getting concerned about the posters hyper focus on the look rather than the content of the drama as I have learnt the hard way that the posters can either tell you all you need to know or completely blindside you. Poong, I am looking you, where was the annoying palace politics heads up in that all smiling cute picture?
I am glad this is coming, as a couple of the ones I planned to watch are proving to be time wasters. I have finally accepted that my 🫘 count is just going to be low rather than watch out of obligation (if it’s not violent or is my genre I feel I have to keep watching so the ratings will be higher and the platform will order more of the same and eventually one will be more my style)

How about having Park Min Young pick neither of the men and remaining single? I mean, if you want the love triangle to end all love triangles, one way to stand out is by not giving pairing anyone up (bonus points for having the trio become good friends at the end of it all). There has to be some reason why Park Min Young's character doesn't commit to a particular relationship, no?

But I honestly don't expect much of the show ... there's definitely some potential to be had particularly if they discuss anti-marriage attitudes amongst Go Kyung Pyo's and Park Min Young's characters but the inclusion of Kim Jae Young's character and that popular-actor-needing-a-contract-gf-for-whatever-reason setup just makes me think this is going to be shallow from start to end.

I’m definitely not expecting this to be very thought provoking (beyond “oh she’s so pretty!”) but you never know. Will be interesting to see if it ends in a marriage as a happy ending given the whole set up is people not wanting to really get married.

I have no ship, yet. But I'm definitely on Park Min-young's ship. In the midst of good guys which both leads are, I'm always for the one who first met the FL. But both guys are good for now. From the stills, I'm gunning for KJY whilst having the feeling that GKP is the one to have my vote once it starts airing. It's indeed the beginning of triangles to end all triangles.

OH THANK GOD there's a warmer palette going on in these stills than the previous ones, because one more set of waxworks was going to put me off this permanently and I've been hoping for some silly snarky romantic fun in my dramalife.

As for shipping, the promos for this show make up 100% of my exposure to Go Pyung-ko, so the only image I have of him so far is this grumpy stuffed shirt in a bleak-chic apartment and he'll have one hell of an uphill climb to be on the same level as the cute guy with the dazzling smile. I'm with @radily and @beffels that subverting marriage-as-happy-ending would be more interesting than drawing simple geometric figures. I will be astonished if that happens, though.

It's spreading. One of my colleagues just sent me an email asking me to review a revised 'daft' report section and even though I knew he meant 'draft,' the typo was sooooo much more appropriate.

I glanced at more of the promo photos on TVN's web site and I'm looking forward to PMY's new wardrobe direction - breaking away from the pencil skirts and bow blouses.

I'm the same in terms of Go Kyung-pyo. It's hard to ship him when I'm only confident he has that one facial expression and he's standing next to someone who seems so pretty/engaging/emotive. I hope the actor's character description is accurate and he ends up being cute and endearing. Then it would at least be more of an understandable dilemma!

He got typecast after Reply 88 to these stoic roles for some reason. But when he does comedy, he’s a hoot as he was when he was first began. I think it’s also that and plus how ML’s are written as less interesting than the 2nd ML’s or supporting roles sometimes.

I wonder if the vampiric photoshopping was done by a poor intern who probably got screamed at (I hope not) in that horrific and exaggerated KD style but it was too late to replace them or by a disgruntled employee who maybe had an affair with one/more of the actors and got their revenge that way!

Yes, no screaming please, but your second scenario would be a great subplot - in this or a Sh**ting-Stars-style office comedy.

3

Required fields are marked *

OR *twist* what they aren't telling us is that this is secretly a vampire drama, and then the style of photoshopping makes so much sense.

It seems unlikely given the amount of sunlight in these stills, but I would probably watch that too hahaha!

I really like KJY, but let's be real. His role here is to sway the FL and provoke the ML to recognize his feelings and leave his comfort zone. GKP made a great impression on me in Strongest Deliveryman, and I have confidence in him to make the ML endearingly awkward. (Or awkwardly endearing. Either way.)

I'm curious about PMY's character's backstory. What happened in her life that she's only interested in fake relationships?
