    You’ve just started watching this?

Yes. 🙂 It’s nice, though I expect it will get angsty. But I hope for many survivors?

I thought you had seen it. Or are you just being secretive with your crossed fingers? Or does they mean something else than “good luck”?
[Whimpering] I was hoping for reassurance!

Of course I have seen and loved it. But no spoilers. The crossed fingers is good luck for you! 😉 🤐

I look forward to reading your comments as you slowly try to unravel the mysteries of the drama.

My comments have mostly been on viki, where the other fans are also just watching it at the moment they read it.
Though sometimes you can see they have had the comments off and then put them on to explain an epiphany everybody else have had three episodes ago at least.
I don’t know how many times I have read : “😮 She is his mother!” or even “I think maybe she is his mother!” when it had been so obvious for so long.

But a comment that belongs here and is not really a spoiler is
I am so tired of all the slutshaming!
As if courtesans were just that kind of mean, gossipy, horny girls that you didn’t have to feel sorry for, because really they just loved their work, and the only backside was that some johns are ugly. But of course one girl there could be different, but then only her, generally, they just loved that job and furthermore, became like flock animals, so you could see the script calling them courtesan 1, 2 and 3.
This of course will help viewers not feel bad about women in that situation today. I could really do without that part.

Somebody on DB had made a very insightful comment that the issues in many sageuks are present even today but a drama calling out say patriarchy or slutshaming in a drama set in modern times may not be so well received. I agree this type of casual misogyny even at a script level is rather disheartening.

            1
            0

Calling out misogyny in sageuks should be easier, since there is some possibility of hiding behind the timeline, but at the same time suggesting that what wasn’t okay then, still is horribly unfair. For example imagining that prostitutes are taking the easy way and even more the ludicrous idea that they are really just horny women who are living the dream.
(It doesn’t say that in this drama, but … you don’t hear anything else about them, either. That one person you are trying to save is that one girl who shouldn’t be in this situation).

    Who’s that man?
(mel.: Theme song for New Girl)

Here’s for comparison. And also, I felt like I knew The Left State Minister from somewhere and found out it was because he reminded me of a Danish Actor, Lars Brygmann. Also, Lars Brygmann in some of his roles have some sort of kind, sorrowful demeanor that I recognize in the Left State Minister, even if a kind Left State Minister is unheard of in Dramaland.

I do believe that is a traditional accessory worn on clothes. It works as a good luck charm and also (I think) to indicate social rank. Wasn’t it given to him by his fiancée, the FL’s sister?

      1
      1

I seem to recall this accessory being crafted / gifted in a lot of sageuks. In The Forbidden Marriage also the FL used to make these.

I think I have seen Lars Brygmann only once in a film my Danish co-worker played after a work Christmas Party (if you’ve been on orange juice all night and are still alive by 3AM, you’d get to watch the film) Something about stealing a Rembrandt painting based on real facts and some level of fiction… Can’t remember all of it, it was 3AM and I needed my beauty sleep. So, will need to investigate in depth before I can’t comment on the resemblance!

Yes, the handsome scary brother from GOT Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, plays an stupid handsome guy there. And there are two actors in it that have been in the same class as my younger brother.
There was this little group of pretentious teenage boys from the same class at school, and from that group og maybe seven or ten boys came two actors, two writers, and an artist. I mean, people who actually became 5 to 8-9 points famous on a scale of 10, where Coster-Waldau, the Queen, and Lucas Graham are 10.
Where I am like … maybe 1 at some point, otherwise zero.

        2
        3

Amazing coincidence! It seems it was an artsy group bound for fame from the start… Each time I say fame, I am reminded of Leroy jumping in his itsy teeny tiny 80s shorts, for some reason.

I’m happy to join you in the zero field. Besides, you’re famous among the Beanies for your drama analysis, gif game, and dram bingo cards…. So, I believe you’ve left me all alone in the zero field while you’ve been frolicking in higher and sunnier fame fields! I shall watch from afar and get my little pen ready to tick off the next bingo card!

            AAaww Thank you!
When I put myself at 1 it was for when I was an active singer in a band, so that some people had seen me and would recognize me. Also, apparently some people had a lot of negative or positive feelings about me dancing, back in my twenties … I wouldn’t really count that as fame, but as for the “I was recognized and people had opinions” then it was 1. But it was people who went to the same concerts as me, you know, so a village, though in Copenhagen.
Ach yah, the days when I could make some girls angry just by exsisting!

            3
            0

Well, some of them had artsy parents, or parents who hated art so much that the poor boy found a good spot to get back at them for his terrible childhood and youth, but also, their group pretentiousness helped them think highly of themselves and make them take chances, also when it took time. So some of them who would definitely have given up otherwise, stayed trying.

            2
            0

Holy fuck, @ceciliedk, you sang in a band and you didn’t tell us?! No more humility, go full K-drama main male lead confidence here, and put yourself at a confident 7 (to pretend you’ve stayed humble despite the Leroy-in-tiny-red-shorts FAME) or even 10 (to embrace the full top-of-the-world K drama male mindset).

This is berømt fame, fame in the real world, far away from the Beanies and their vibrant dreams of unspeakable K drama leads’ body parts (I’m going to assume the body parts are still attached here, but by all means, if there’s a serial killer Beanie out there, you’re welcome to dream about whatever you want as long as you don’t make it happen)

Well of course I was a total star, but more like, someone who had been at a party where we played, might recognize me at another party where I also played … And probably without remembering my name.
But I did sing in a big party soul band for some time mostly as a background singer, but had like 2-3 songs that was mine, me in front … ANd then later I had a few jobs with a band that played Brazilian party music, and there was a guy who had recognized me from the other band, wondered why I didn’t sing there anymore, because, as he said, I was obviously the best singer in that band. (Patting my own shoulder).
And then I had a duo for some time “She’s the Bossa” you can have one guess at what genre, and then I had a few performances with a Brecht Duo … right now I don’t recall what we called ourselves, but I wish we had been called “Nicht Schlecht: Brecht!” because that sounds immensely Brechtian and also immensely German.
But before going up the ladder of famousness, I would expect people who I have never met to know my name.
Those that I said was 5 and above: Writing something that is printed by a publisher, reviewed in newspapers … or being in a television show or movie that does that your name is remembered by a lot of people, probably a main character. Like in that movie you saw, Rembrandt.
While 10 is someone that everybody or almost everybody in Denmark, and a lot of people abroad, would know of. Like the Queen, (and now, our King), Lucas Graham, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
But I do miss being at level 1, not for the fame, but for the fun.

A Rembrandt was inexpertly stolen one time, but I think the main point of the film has very little to do with the actual facts … it’s a moving story about a father-son relationship, and really a lot of not very good relationship with so many letdowns, and most of all, but in a reverse way, where the SPOILER ALERT thing that bring them together in the end is to not avoid prison, but go together, taking more blame than they need, so that they can keep stupid Nikolaj out of it, because he is too fragile to survive mentally in there. 🥹🤧😢

Oh don’t be! A teaser for Tove’s Room popped up recently on my feed and one of the actors felt familiar but I couldn’t place him…. So I did my little research work 🙂

@attiton Seon-ha, I can say I am liking this drama very much still. I am more than halfway which shows that 1) I watch it too much and 2) I am at the point where many dramas lose momentum so 3) maybe people will start dying left and right very soon.
Some secrets that were guessable long before they were revealed and some that were still a bit uncertain have been shown, and one of them had a moment I wanted to gif, but remembered your comment about seeing how I liked it. Because it was a major spoiler.
So please start watching so that I can spoil to my hearts content. 😊🫣🥷🏻🙂
It might even be you who makes that ultimate spoiler gif – it’s a Seon-ha kind of moment.
BTW, the gif about the black-clad man above is to help the sleuthing when you get a bit into the drama. But also: can you see the resemblance between Lars Brygmann and the Left State MInister? It’s not striking like “Wauw, doppelganger”, but it’s enough to make my intuition react every time I see LSM. (Also, Lars has a brother, Martin, and they look more alike than many siblings, but it is Lars that resembles the LSM).

    Secret Guesthouse #4: Destiny-prone

@seeker asked what I meant with someone being “destiny-prone”, and what I meant was when the filming is more or less telling you this:

    2
    1

Destiny is working hard and he trying his best to avoid it by letting her faceplant the ground. This has landed right on my to-watch list!

Also, I love the total absence of survival instincts on her part. She does not put her hands in front of herself to prevent eating soil… Surely, that’s the sign of some neurological issues, right?
