Beanie level: Water maid

We’re already May, 16th in Korea…
Happy Birthday to Lee Ji Eun (IU) who has become a fantastic actress!🎂🎈🎉🎁 I already knew she had potential when I first watched her in ‘You’re the Best Lee Soon Shin!’ but her performance in ‘My Ahjussi’ totally blew me away. Still can’t believe that this week we have to say goodbye to this wonderful drama😢…anyway, I want to thank IU for giving life to this beautiful character that was Lee Ji An❤️ (she really nailed the role)

It\’s been a long time guys (3 weeks)…there\’s a reason for my absence…I got the chicken pox!😷

I still can\’t believe I caught that shit in my 30s *forgive my french but anyway I\’m French🤣*(it was appalling to say the least and I\’m still recovering from it! I really thought I was dying *no joke*) My only salvation during those rough times was to watch dramas. I finally started \’A Poem A Day\’ (yeah THAT drama everyone used to rave and talk about…\”used\” because it seems a lot of persons lost interest midway in the end😄)
Shipping wars aside (I won\’t tell my ship😛) , I liked it and it was a good stress reliever (love the beautiful and meaningful poems)…it helped me greatly going through that awful period.
Tomorrow is the finale and I hope the writer won\’t screw up at the last minute (Episode 14 was very disappointing/After his childish act, I seriously wanted to beat the shit out of Minho…we sure witnessed a character\’s assassination here *writer is mean*)
My watchlist:
Mondays/Tuesdays~ Wok of Love, A Poem A Day and Miracle We Met.
Wednesdays/Thursdays~ My Ahjussi (don\’t want to let this drama go😭) and Suits.
Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays~ Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food and Lawless Lawyer (but still no sub for the latter grrr)
Lastly, I just wanted to say I\’m happy to be back!

Glad you’re feeling better now 🙂

Aw, we’re happy to have you back! Sorry you had to go through that, and hope you get back up to 100% soon! *hugs*

Thank you for the warm welcome back and wishes😘Now, I’m letting the scabs fall off on there own but I’ve also have to deal with stomach cramps…very nice I know. Can’t wait for this nightmare to be behind me. Thanks again😊

Welcome back! I hope that you have recovered completely?
    French you say? Très intéressant….!

Thanks!! Well, let’s say the worst is behind me now😄
      Yeah I’m French/Et oui, je suis française😉

      1

I’m originally from the US, but I’ve lived near Paris for most of my life.
I hope those scabs all fall off soon. Such a yuck illness…

        1
        1

Oh really?!? I’m not from Paris but from Paul Bocuse’s city: Lyon.
As for those scabs, I hope to get rid of them asap! Still, I was lucky, it was not that itching😄

          2
          1

Welcome back!! Ooh, chicken pox, yuck! That doesn’t sound like fun. I’m glad you’re better.

APAD has been a good show but I am one of the ones whose interest has been waning. 😅 I’ll still see it through ‘til the end, though!

My Ajusshi is 💖 and I’ll be sad to see it go this week. 😭 After this and Mother, this tvN timeslot seems made for top-notch dramas. I hope whatever drama takes over is good, too.

    1
    1

Thank you and chicken pox is indeed a disgusting disease (I’ve never felt so ugly and miserable😭…better off getting it as a child, I tell you *I want to thank my niece for this unforgettable memory😈*

Concerning APAD, I’m disappointed with these last couple of episodes (14 has been terrible to watch, writer has been really mean to Minho’s character, he just killed his growth as a character imo)

And I don’t like how the love triangle is playing out…it should have been resolved a long time ago *watched the preview for episode 16 and they’re still teasing us about it! Come on Show! *rolling eyes*
All I can say is that I’ll stand by my ship till the end😁

Lastly, I wholly agree with you for My Ahjussi. It’s a masterpiece imo. Stellar cast and epic storyline. Kudos to the team. ‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim’ (Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young) is the next drama for this time slot. It’s already on my ‘next’ to watch list😊

Glad you’re feeling better! Chicken pox sounds awful.
A Poem A Day was much better today than it was last week 🙂

    1
    1

Thanks🙂 Just watched Episode 15 and it was indeed better than last week. Bo Young’s spunk (love how she told them off at the interview) and clumsiness is back…(and her ‘mushiness’ in the opening scene was priceless🤣 The cashier at the convenience store was not amused haha)

10 Things I Hate About You, Show:
I hated the way you made me laugh one minute to make my heart weak the next …I hated how you made me care deeply about all your characters as if they were my family. I hate myself for waiting for new episodes that will come no more. I hate the way I was so obsessed with you to the point I’m feeling so empty now that you’re gone. But mostly I hate how I can’t forget you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.
Lastly, I want to express my biggest thanks to all the Waikiki’s team for making these past 3 months so enjoyable. You did a bang-up job guys!👍 This drama has really been a fun ride from beginning to end. There were no dull moments imo.
Thanks to you I also met fantastic actors who really gave their all, not caring about their appearances or the way they look while acting silly/doing weird faces etc…successfully making me laugh to tears *and I’m hard to please* (love Kim Jung Hyun❤️, he’s one of my favorites now)

And to end my post, some goodies to say my final goodbye to this show…Mahalo 🙏 A Hui Hou👋

“But mostly I hate how I can’t forget you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”

    Me too, me too.

The fact you used that movie reference, I don’t know whether to be sad that Waikiki has ended or that this reminds me of Heath Ledger and how awesome he was. T ^ T

He was indeed awesome and he’s dearly missed. ’10 Things I Hate About You’ has to be one of my favorite movies ever. Love the cast (Heath Ledger but also Joseph Gordon Levitt and Julia Stiles)

Ah, thank you so much for this beautiful post ~ I agree wholeheartedly with it all! And I love the movie reference, it’s one of my favorites!! ^_^

Sol also attended the wrap up party…driving her mini-Audi🚗 How cute is that?!?❤️

This is really the end!😢 Wrap Up Party (btw, where is Lee Yi Kyung? He didn’t attend? Too busy?)

Waikiki’s preview for final episode…be prepared for some angst, they of course saved Sol’s appa/Yoon Ah’s backstory for the end. Should I even be surprised?!😅 Poor Dong Gu, another hurdle to overcome (Yoon Ah doesn’t look very pleased either)
I wish nothing but a happy ending for the three couples! Please give me that, writer-nim (this and a lot of laughs)
Lastly, I kept on repeating the preview (don’t judge me😂) and I took a screenshot of whom I assume is Sol’s father (guy on the far right/side profile). He does look familiar but I can’t seem to put a name to his face🤔…Any help is welcome😉

Ok, watched final episode’s preview with eng subs and I swear, I’m so aggravated! This guy (Sol’s father) thinks he can waltz back into her life like nothing happened. I just can’t! You abandoned them Sir, you have no right to ask her to take you back. Period.

I already hate this week…It\’s time to say goodbye to my most beloved show of the first quarter of the year…😭 Dong Gu, Yoon Ah, Jun Ki, Seo Jin, Du Shik, So Ah and Sol…love you guys and I will miss you all so much❤️

Not K-dramas/Pop related.

I\’ve been following a convo in \”Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching\” (started by @kiara) that was rather interesting since I\’m an avid classic movie lover myself…I wanted to give some recommendations as well but I feel more at ease to share them here on my wall if you don\’t mind… so for anyone interested😄

* The Shop Around the Corner (James Stewart/Margaret Sullavan) – you probably know the remake \”You\’ve got mail\” with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Same story (enemies turned lovers has always been my catnip) but I like the original best.

* The Heiress (Olivia De Havilland/Montgomery Clift)- great movie and stellar cast. Plus, it also doesn\’t hurt that Monty is such an eye candy in this movie.

* My Favorite Wife and The Awful Truth (Cary Grant/Irene Dunne): A must-watch if you\’re into screwball comedies and the leads\’ chemistry is off the charts.

* An Affair to Remember (Cary Grant/Deborah Kerr)- one of the most romantic movie I\’ve ever seen.

12
16

Ah, Shop around the Corner. It’s one of my all time favorites ever. Not just for the romance part either, there is so much to love.
And I love just about anything with Cary Grant in it. Ever seen “Walk Don’t Run”? His last film, and he was absolutely magnetic still even though he wasn’t the romantic lead.

    6
    1

Ahhhh Cary Grant was for sure the most suave and charming leading man of the Hollywood’s Golden Age imo. And his comic timing was gold. Must have watched all his filmography😄

I did watch ‘Walk Don’t Run” and I really like it as well (this movie was shot in Tokyo just after the ’64 Olympics). Even though he was already 60 when he filmed this one, he was still dashingly handsome!❤️

😊 He’s not bowlegged after all!

Shop Around The Corner is one my favorite older classics. The characters are so adorable, and Jimmy Stewart.. ah, my heart. (Plus there’s a musical!)

    Thanks for sharing!

ha ha, such a classic indeed! Jimmy is one of my fav actors from that era. ‘Harvey’, ‘You can’t Take it with you’, ‘Mr Smith Goes to Washington’ and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ are my personal favorites (most of his earlier movies are)

      You’re welcome😊

Oh, *clutches maybe heart* It’s A Wonderful Life makes me cry every time. George Bailey is wonderful.

You Can’t Take It With You… Can’t wait to introduce it to my cousins when they come visit.. hehehe

I attack any and all family and friends with classic movies any chance I get. 🙂

There should be a dedicated topic for classics drama series and films like Chungmuro news.

I hesitate to ask the DB staff considering the current state of this site.

We could squeeze in chat about classic films into What We’re Watching every week hehe…

I’m so happy to find beanies who are into these films here. I’ve seen all of those listed above here except the Heiress. Cary Grant & Irenne Dunne are <3 Oh, and Jimmy Stewart. May I add It's a Wonderful World (with Claude Colbert) to the list?

          3
          1

@wishfultoki I’m delighted (and pleasantly surprised) as well to see this much beanies sharing the same passion as me for classic movies …as for me, I’ve always been called an old soul by my own family for liking this kind of stuff…they love teasing me about it😄 I know more about actors/actresses from that era than the current one. I must be born in the wrong era😋 That’s why I always make sure to come back to it whenever I’m in a drama slump…Will add ‘It’s a Wonderful World’ to my watch list, thanks for the recommendation!😊

These are all so good!! My first job was mainly to support my addiction to buying old movies so this post comes as a nice surprise ^^
My fave oldies are musicals (like Guys and Dolls or Singin in the Rain), but I also love those hateyoubutloveyoubuthateyou movies like It Happened One Night <3

Holy carp—my face is nearly split from grinning. So many favorites plus the gift of a new one for me. Will add The Heiress to my list.

My favorite factoid about An Affair To Remember is that Leo McCarey made it twice. I love both versions!

Aw … reading this list is making my heart ache. I watched so many classic movies with my mom, who died four years ago this month. (It’s a good ache; watching classic movies is my favorite way to remember her!) Thank you for sharing, @nami1116!

    2

Aww, glad that it reminded you of fond memories of time spent with your late mother *hug*….and do watch ‘The Heiress’, it’s a superb film supported by an awesome cast (won 4 Oscars) One of Olivia De Havilland’s finest performance imo (she deservedly won an Oscar for this role) and Montgomery Clift was simply amazing as well (underrated actor, his talent got overshadowed by his looks/I highly recommend you to watch ‘A Place in the Sun’ with Liz Taylor too if you haven’t)

Concerning ‘An Affair To Remember’, I wasn’t even aware it was a remake *surprised* (just looked it up and there’s indeed this 1939 version with Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne) , I need to add this to my watch list! Thanks for sharing😊

Just noticed something funny…Jtbc seems to be into the \’lift your woman\’ thing nowadays…ok, it looks fun and I myself wouldn\’t mind to do the same thing with either guy😋 (Jung Hae In and Kim Jung Hyun)

No, no, no! This is not what I’ve been promised! Please turn down! (Jeon So Min eventually declined)

(me when I read the news this morning)⬆️
MBC+melo+Seohyun+summer release= recipe for disaster. He deserves way better!
Let’s pick a better project, I can wait for his comeback.

Nooooooooo. If there must be SNSD member, I rather see Yoona. She is at least pretty decent and charming, and can do good with a good script and PD. But Seohyun… 😖

    2

I know, it’s a nightmare😒 Let me wake up from it! Only watched her in Moon Lovers and she was terrible. Refused to watch ‘Bad Thief, Good Thief’ (despite Kim Ji Hoon’s presence) so don’t know how she fared there…but I’m very disappointed with this news… hope he declines!

      2
      1

I watched ‘bad thief good thief’ and thought she was charming in that role but melo oh no. She should just stick to weekenders or at least play side characters first

      or Kwon Yuri….

Well I saw comments here in DB saying Jeon So Min can’t do Melo right and isn’t good enough for Kim Jung Hyun. Looks like dramagods heard the prayers but they also have a twisted sense of humor.
