Beanie level: Noble idiot

*trumpet fanfare* Beanies, I think my drama slump is over!! Woohoo! I’ve watched the first 10 episodes of My Fellow Citizens and it’s so nice to watch a drama that is not about romance. The women in it are so badass.

Those 10 episodes were enough for me to be like “Ok, maybe I can try some romance.” So I watched the first two episodes of Angel’s Last Mission: Love. Ugh Shin Hye Sun is an incredible actress. Can’t believe I was crying profusely during only the first two episodes!

THEN, I was like “Ok, I could use some more wacky romance”. I watched the first four episodes of The Secret Life of My Secretary and enjoyed that as well! Feels good to be back!

Welcome back! I’ve started with my fellow citizens too 🙂
I’m so tempted to watch Angel’s last mission:love and secret life of my secretary. Going to wait until a few more episodes are subbed. 🙂

So sad to hear of Pristin\’s disbandment, although I knew it was coming. All members are talented and the group as a whole had immense potential. I will especially miss the Pristin V subunit.

I wonder how this news will affect the future of Yunjin (Kirin-chan) and Kaeun. Maybe they can try another After School group and add the remaining Pristin members?

    1
    1

Yeah, hard to say. Based on the company’s history I think they are just really terrible at managing groups. I would love to see Yunjin debut and Kaeun re-debut, but I almost don’t wish it upon them if it is with Pledis…

Killing Eve Season 2 spoilers ahead

I was becoming a bit disappointed with Season 2 of Killing Eve, but episodes 5 & 6 turned that right around. The Eve-Villanelle dynamic is rapidly changing and I love how Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh are conveying the experience and suppression of emotions & urges their characters are experiencing.

I see spots of humanity in Villanelle as she opens herself up to becoming closer to Eve. But, when she experiences those a bit too much, she becomes impulsive and murderous as her own form of self-control. On the contrary, Eve begins to experience those same impulses that are characteristic of Villanelle. She’s more reckless and outspoken. There are times when she reels herself back in, but you can tell she doesn’t want to.

Eve becomes more like Villanelle and Villanelle becomes more like Eve. It was quite jarring to see in episodes 1-4 when they were apart. But, now that they are working together, thrown into the daylight of the real world, it makes much more sense. They exist on a level playing field (at least for now), no longer cat and mouse and I LOVE that. Their separate existences have become so chaotic that they both feel their most grounded when together.

This show is subtle and this season seems to be much more subtle than the first. Lots of incomplete scenes and story happening where the camera does not exist. I find myself watching each episode multiple times. But, I am in awe of both Sandra and Jodie for such huge character development within such small moments. So yeah, a long post and accompanying psychoanalysis because I’m just really happy with where the show has gone.

If you are also watching, please comment with your thoughts so I can know I am not the only one obsessing over this show.

Really enjoyed the first episode of Abyss. I love kdramas that have a whimsical darkness to them. Also, Park Bo Young can do no wrong.

Happy 1st Anniversary to my queens, (G)I-DLE, the most awarded kpop girl group in history!!! Honored to be a fan of such talented, funny, and beautiful artists. Excited to see their growth this year.

Finished Possessed last night and have never felt so disrespected by the last 3 episodes of a show. Overall, a great watch and great writing/acting. I would not have been so emotionally invested if the show was not compelling and the characters were not written or acted well.

I knew the show was dark and I had suspicions that there would be no happy ending, but I was not expecting quite that level of destruction and evil. I’m not Goblin-level distraught, but I’m very unsettled. Did the last 3 episodes ruin the rest of the show for me? I don’t think so. The show made me laugh, cry, have my jaw drop open, be frustrated, annoyed, angry. And that is a sign of an incredible show. Just because I didn’t get the ending I wanted for the characters doesn’t mean the show was ruined for me.

Now it is time to drown myself in some sweet, fluffy dramas (perhaps Her Private Life?). I need to recover from this drama hangover…

Possessed Ep 13: This show knows no boundaries. I cannot predict what is going to happen next. They are building up to an epic finale and I am on the edge of my damn seat.

What song got you into Kpop? For me it was this masterpiece: I Love You by 2NE1

December 2016: I’d been watching a variety of kpop MVs for a few weeks because other beanies seemed to be really into this kpop thing and I thought I would check it out. I hadn’t found anything that really grabbed me but then I saw GOT7’s Just Right and I completely fell for the song and the seven guys singing it.

@raonah It is INSANE to me that I’ve liked them longer than you (by like…3 months) but you are such a better fan than I am!
i got into kpop by this dance practice https://youtu.be/4EvV0IXd1BU of Just Right back in Sept/Oct of 2016. My dear Delightful Gal A was watching GOT7 dance practices at work and was sort of sucked in. I liked the song right away and I thought the dance practices were funny. I thought JB WAS HOT LIKE FIRE and really dug Jinyoung in his hat. I thought Jackson was too extra by far and needed to simmer all the way down with his insane behind. But somewhere before the end of the night I was in love with every song that she had played for me and I really dug that blond kid.

      1
      1

😂 I can’t believe you thought Jackson was too wild at first.

        1
        1

I kept trying to deny it. I was so smitten by the end of the night with Jackson. But like the first few dance practices I watched I was like—that kid is so try hard. He needs to sit down immediately. But by the second dance video I was like…insane. But hot. By the end of the night I could see his personality past all of the extraness. He’s a good bias. He’s done me well all of this time.

I remember it as if it was yesterday. The song was SNSD’s Genie/Tell Me Your Wish. I thought it was just perfect. I started listening to SNSD and other K-pop groups after.

As sad as it sounds, it was Produce 101, s2 – before I knew about how mistreated the trainees are 🙁 – & BTS “Boy in Luv”. I was checking out the originals of songs performed that I’d kind of like, which led to me finding the original Boy in Luv and absolutely falling in love with it.

I’m not an Army or a BTS fan but I still maintain that “Boy in Luv” (besides “Tomorrow”) is one of their best songs PERIOD. It’s just so good!

      1
      1

It is! I love how the members play with various sounds – growls, a car, etc etc throughout the song. Apart from the rock sound haha. 😁 It’s what made me fall in love

ha ha ha a.. me too.. found boy in luv and fire (BP) through produce s2..

gotta give them the credit to even get me an iota bit interested in kpop..

i’d listened to kpop so many times before but never liked even one song (ridiculous because now those same songs i can listen to on repeat.. Big Bang being the biggest ones to benefit.. lol.. life is funny)

It just takes that one song. Once you get into it, it’s so diverse there’s something for everyone.

ha ha.. i wonder.. to be very honest.. boy in luv is the only song of BTS that i actually listen to.. rest i haven’t even able to complete half way through..

or bP.. i think i just like that part “fire part..

but yes.. indeed.. it takes 1 song to get into sthg…
like cheer up (thnks all variety shows that were playing it at oen point in time) and produce S2 😛

            0

          sorry. cut midway..

but yeah the song that really made me take notice of kpop has to be “Let’s not fall in love” and “Loser”.. made series overall

          0

yup meant kpop too.. bts is one of the groups.. i don’t think i can call any of the groups a consistent performer for my taste..and it’s amazing how people stan music of particular groups ..they must be performing for them, i guess..

rather overall. .. in any language.. it always is about that one thing to get you started (kpop or any entertainment content)

For me it was DBSK’s “Proud” (Japanese release). I was trading songs with my friend over our Sony Ericsson walkman phones (ah, those were the days) in 2007. Started listening to K-pop and never looked back.

I wouldn’t really say I’m “in to” kpop, because I only pay attention to one group, but I accidentally saw Mamamoo on You Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook doing “Mr Ambiguous” and “Um Oh Ah Yeh”. Besides the visuals and the music, I liked they way they obviously (even to a total noob) tweaked to words to work in the names of the host and the show. It seemed like they were having more fun than people are supposed to have while under a slave contract 🙂

I think it was one of Super Junior or SNSD’s old song (circa 2009), but then I got a bit tired of Kpop after 1 or 2 years. Then SHINee rekindled it years later with their Sherlock album.

Oh, but I can’t NOT mention how several years before that I really randomly got into Rain. After my mom died in 2010 I became OBSESSED with Ninja Assassin. Which became me being OBSESSED with Rain and seeking him out online and watching Full House 50times and then learning that that beautiful man was a singer and listening to and watching all of his stuff online. But, I didn’t become a fan–as in listening to the music as part of my everyday life–until GOT7.
Although, kind of CNblue at the same time now that I think about it. Because, the next day In Sept/Oct of 2016 DGA gave me Coffee Prince to watch and I fell down the kdrama rabbit hole and started watching whatever I could get my hot little hands on and Heartstrings was one of my first dramas—like, maybe the 3rd or 4th drama I ever watched and I fell in love HARD with Jung Yong Hwas voice. I was out in these internets trying to find this man without any clue what his name was, or any of the english lyrics to the song he sings about his father in the drama but DETERMINED to find out SOMETHING. And that lead me to CNBlue. So….CNBlue and GOT7 about the same time. But Rain a full 6 years before.

Violeta is a bop, but I present to you Highlight which is the superior track on HEART*IZ.

I like Violeta (the choreography is just so, so pretty) but I kinda wish they promoted with Highlight instead.

    1
    1

Agreed, Highlight as the title would be fabulous. Just imagine how amazing the choreo would be. But, Violeta as the title was a smart choice to amplify their LVER concept and please the general public. Hoping we will see a performance of Highlight during their KCON circuit.

Ok Beanies, I have questions about the end of Kingdom. Will leave in the comments…

So, apparently what put the zombies to sleep was the temperature? This has me so confused. Based on the foliage seen in the drama I’m guessing this is set in the fall, right? Were the zombies put to sleep because it was hot during the day? But as fall progresses the days start to get colder so they can come out during the day now, too? This still doesn’t make sense to me because the zombies ran away the second the sun came out. The temperature isn’t raised by some huge amount with the first few rays of sun…..If someone has a better explanation of this please help!

    2
    2

They said it was the temperature, not the sunlight. You saw in the final episode the frost on their beards even when the sun was out.

      1
      1

Yes and that makes sense because it is a noticeable temperature change. But, earlier on when the disease first started to spread (and we can assume it was early on or midway through fall), the temperature at night and the temperature when the sun first comes up (which is when the zombies were put to sleep each time) is really no different. Perhaps I’m reading into it too much or the temperature in Korea at that time of year is vastly different than where I live.

        1
        0

I didn’t think too much of that one detail at the time bc I was trying to recover from that ending but I think there’s something we’re (and the characters) are missing about the zombies and how they function.
Or it could just be the day’s specific weather – sunny/cloudy/rain etc ? (That last battle looked like a cloudy day?) OR the sunlight vs. nighttime being used simply to illustrate the idea of temperature changes?
