My Dearest Episode 21
Jang Hyeon’s background history would make a compelling drama. Too bad it was crammed in the last episode…

Castaway Diva Episode 1:

I really want to see adult Ki Ho. I hope he looks like Chae Jong Hyeop. Pretty please, drama gods!

I finished my piano piece inspired by “My Dearest.” I am thinking about calling it “River Of Regrets”, but I am open to other suggestions.

Love it! This reminds me of the Jane Austen era, too.

The music is not exactly historically informed, because I have no idea what 17th century Joseon music was like. I was going for the emotional impact.

        1
        2

Part of the 17th-century Joseon music was Pansori represented in the first episode, the flower picking, and RE 2nd song at the Anniversary celebration. There was another scene with music borrowed from “Chunhyang.”
I should have said the OST.

Was going to comment the same thing!! It reminds me a bit of the novel Jane Eyre (idk how to explain why or how), and like gothic Victorian vibes also??

I really like it Snow Flower, thanks for sharing – I can really feel the emotions you were basing this piece off of!!

Song of the Bandits Episode 3

I totally ship Lee Yoon and Eon Nyeon. Their gunfights are like a passionate tango. But of course, he keeps pining for yangban girl…why?

Is the fall of the Northern Song dynasty the setting for a current C-drama?

    0
    1

No, but it was referenced in My Dearest, so I had to look it up. For some reason the name of the location is different in the subtitles, but all the other details mentioned in the drama check out, so it must be the same event.

      1
      2

It is the same incident. Injo was worried more about getting dragged to Qing, demoted, and eating dog food than saving his people or the people.

        3
        0

Oops, Jinkang (Chengjiang in the drama) does not refer to a location, but rather to a time period of a particular emperor’s reign.

Random observations about “My Dearest:” Out of so many soldiers under Hong Taiji’s command, it never occurred to anybody to sing for the Khan until Ryang Eum showed up?

6
3

Given how recent Khan’s visit was, I assume there wasn’t enough time for him to hear his soldiers sing. If he had stayed longer he might have heard someone sing in the background. Also, I say no one would dare to sing right next to his tent.

    4
    0

Good point! 😁 He traveled with a tent more lavish than my house yet didn’t bring the military band?

    4
    0

Maybe for fear of death? You never know what will happen if the emperor doesn’t like it.
According to Jang Hyun, someone like Ryang Eum only comes around every 10 thousand years.

Speechless after Episode 6 of My Dearest…

10
3

Nooooooo, don’t go to Ganghwaaaa! NOOOO!

Bracing for more disasters in Episode 6 of My Dearest.

5
5

I think Jang Hyun was right to tell her to go there. Hong Taiji’s men are the ones at Ganghwa. They are strict and disciplined. The Mongols are the ones terrorizing and stealing from the locals.

    1
    1

Hong Taiji’s troops are about to capture the rest of the royal family, which will make Injo to capitulate and accept the humiliating demands of Qing. Crown Prince Sohyeon and his brother Prince Bongrim will become hostages for 8 years, while Joseon will remain a vassal to Qing until 1894. It is true that our heroine has better chance of survival if she encounters the disciplined Qing troops, but she should have gone to Jeju instead. But then there will be no drama for us to watch.

Now that Jang Hyun has met CP Sohyeon, a lot of events are set in motion. Their first meeting was not very promising. I am curious what kind if dynamic will develop between them.

      2
      1

She is going to be fine. Hong Taiji just wants to break the alliance between Ming and Joseon, and then he’ll be gone.
CP So-hyeon didn’t become the most promising member of the royal family until he returned from Qing. We can see why the progressive-minded Jang Hyun was blamed for corrupting the CP.

        2
        1

Does that mean that Jang Hyun will follow the CP as a hostage too?

          2
          1

I hope they’ll all go to Qing with him unless there is another time jump like this week’s episodes.

Chuno is a masterpiece. Not without flaws, if course, but the emotional impact overwhelms the little imperfections. I should rewatch it after I finish rewatching Jumong.

By the way, I took a screenshot of your comments at TFGV and pasted it into my Notes app, and it automatically did character recognition to turn it into text that can be copy/pasted. Much easier than retyping, if you’re going to start compiling these notes. (And this is me hoping you will – thanks again!!)

I remember typing my notes before posting them as comments on KFG’s blog. I did find them in my computer yesterday. I am happy that they are useful for another drama as well.

Waiting for BOSSAM subs….The struggle is real…

7
10

    Eps 10 is at 98%.

    2
    1

I watched it yesterday without subs and again today with subs. I have not been this emotionally affected by a sageuk since my latest CHUNO rewatch earlier in the year, and that’s saying something…

      3
      1

I’m not big on romance in sageuks except for a few like “Chuno”, “Princess’ Man” and “Yisan.”
“Bossam” combines them all so I’m hopelessly addicted.

I’m going to watch and re-watch to my heart’s content.

        2
        1

I would classify Chino more like a character journey rather than a romance, even though there were plenty of romantic moments there. Bossam reminds me the most of The Princess’s Man, but it has its own unique vibe too. The drama is on its way of becoming an all-time favorite, worthy of multiple rewatches. Most of my favorite sageuks have tragic endings, so I hope this one will end on a well-deserved happy note.

          2
          1

I don’t see a reason why it wouldn’t end on a happy note like Princess’ Man.
We know from history that Ba-woo’s aunt Queen Inmok will be re-instated and that the Westerners will return to power.

Gwanghae will probably be spared for Soo-kyung’s sake so that’s good enough for me.

            2
            0

It’s so good! I actually watched 1/2 of 10 at 20% subbed which is good enough for me! I like watching this unsubbed because I see more of the actors’ expressions as well. And JIW and Yuri are killing it in that department.

    2
    2

Agree! Both are excellent in this drama. I have not seen Yuri in anything, so I am very impressed. I recently watched JIW in HAECHI and liked him a lot in that drama. I like his voice. Does he sing?

      0
      1

I don’t think he does professionally, but yeah, I’m partial to his voice too, and eyes, and hands, and lips, and…well, all of it. 😂
