[Theme of the Month] Scene stealers

It’s true that every good drama has strong main leads, but for me the best dramas are made complete by the strength of their supporting actors. Sure, they weren’t the focus of the show — but they drew your attention anyway. Scene stealers come in every variety. Sometimes, the show’s scene stealer is that quirky, funny hyung. Other times, they’re gruff but lovable. Still others are just pure charisma in human form.

So let’s look back and remember our favorite scene stealers!

Tell us about your favorite dramaland scene stealers. How did they steal your heart? What makes them special for you?

To submit:

  • Email your submissions to hello@dramabeans.com. If you have a registered Dramabeans account, include your handle so we can link to it.
  • Include at least 1 image, though more is preferred.
  • Suggested length: Between 500 and 1,000 words.
  • Deadline: We will post these on a rolling basis, so we’re taking submissions now. We will cut off accepting submissions on November 26. If you miss this month, join us for a new theme next month!

Speaking of the leads' younger selves, in THE MOON EMBRACING THE SUN every child actor/actress were a scene stealer (Kim You-Jung, Yeo Jin-Goo, Lee Tae-Ri, Kim So-Hyun, Siwan, and Lee Won-Geun), The senior ones paled in comparison with them.

Kim Shin and Reaper's coats in Goblin!

Secret. I finished Secret only for the coats. That was a first and last to this day, but left quite an impact.

Do hands count then? Because can definitely count times when the hands have been more interesting than the actual scene...

9
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

Oh yes. What comes to my are the infamous hands of Choi Daniel.

As long as we are talking about body parts, how about butts? Song Jae-rim's apple butt is not merely a scene stealer, but a special feature in Surplus Princess. Aaaaand again Choi Daniel. That long shot in the dark in Jugglers. Definitely top 5 (on a list that I was not aware that I am keeping.)

Subway. She is everywhere in every scene. You need a place to break-up, Subway. Let's make-up, Subway. I'm trying to woo you, how do you take you Subway sandwiches? You need somewhere to meet you students, Subway. Your wife non-wife just broke up with your cheating self, Subway is there to dry your tears. At this point, I get sad when I watch dramas where she doesn't make a cameo or have plots revolve around her.

In all seriousness: Lee El, Son Seok Koo, Seo Jun Young, Kang Ki Young, Hwang Bo Ra, Kim Seul Gi, Song Ha Joon, Jung Da Bin, Nam Da Reum, and a bunch of child actors, Seo Ji Hoon, Seo Young Joo, Kim Hyun Soo, Shin Jae Ha, Lee Yang Seob, Yang Jin Sung, Han Chae Ah, Song Ok Suk, Jeon No Min, Kil Hae Yeon, Kim Ga Eun, Kim Min Suk, David Lee, Lee Si Won, Shin Jung Keun.... I watch a ton of dramas and tend to get interested in side character/second or third leads more than the leads.
