Oh My Lady: Episode 16 (Final)

Ah, the end is here! I suspect this episode made most if not all fans very happy, as it tied up the plot in a light-hearted but satisfactory way that was in keeping with the tone of the drama. It’s too bad that things didn’t get really compelling until about Episode 10 (then stepped it up with Episode 12 on — incidentally when Yura took a big step backward — coincidence? I think not) — which is frankly rather late for me to be connecting with a drama.

It’s to the actors’ credit that their amusing and sweet interactions were able to carry the plot until the story finally managed to tap into that emotional place with Min-woo’s growth as a father and as a person. I’m just glad that this one ended on a high note, because so many finale episodes feel like a letdown — they’re either too rushed or dragged out as an extended epilogue.

FINAL EPISODE RECAP

Min-woo asks Kae-hwa to be Ye-eun’s mother, explaining that he had purposely waited to ask her until after the musical premiered. Nobody could be as good a mother to Ye-eun as she is, “And I need you. Let’s marry.”

(Omo! Usually when episodes end on cliffhangers, the next episode drops the tension back down, but in this case they just upped the ante.)

Kae-hwa is stunned, but Min-woo adds, “I’m not saying this out of the blue. I’ve thought this over seriously for a long while. Think it over, then give me your answer. I can wait as long as you need.”

Min-woo is invited along for a celebratory drink with The Show Co. staff, and Jae-hee remarks that it feels like Min-woo’s a part of their office family now, seeing as he has come to all their gatherings. Min-woo smiles and, while looking at Kae-hwa, says pointedly, “I think so too. It feels like a family.”

He’s extra solicitous to her, offering little things like napkins and such, which Shi-joon finds amusing while Kae-hwa is exasperated. When the others urge her to drink more, Min-woo swoops in to play the “black knight,” i.e, drink for her.

Min-woo’s behavior is so noteworthy that Jae-hee asks teasingly if their fake scandal is actually real. Kae-hwa blurts, “No!” just as Min-woo answers, “Yes.” (Such a mixed reaction makes the others think there’s more to this relationship than they’re letting on, and they exchange knowing looks.) Kae-hwa rises to leave early because of the kids, and Min-woo hurriedly excuses himself too, accompanying her out.

Kae-hwa is impatient with his exaggerated attentiveness, and says that she’ll give her answer now: “I’m not going to marry again.” He asks her to think about it some more, but she replies that a lot of thought has already gone into making this decision (not to remarry).

A bit indignant, he says it’s cowardly to swear off marriage because her first one failed. Maybe she just met the wrong guy the first time — it’s always possible she’ll meet a good person the second time around.

Kae-hwa replies that she doesn’t want to entertain such an expectation, and besides, she has Min-ji. He counters that a daughter isn’t a husband — and once Min-ji grows up and gets married, will she be fine being alone? That makes her pause briefly, but she reasserts her stance.

Min-woo: “Are you that afraid?”
Kae-hwa: “Yes, I am! Do you know what marriage is?”
Min-woo: “‘What do you know when you have no life experience?’ Is that what you’re telling me?”
Kae-hwa: “You haven’t been hurt so you don’t know. You don’t know what that pain is of promising to love each other for the rest of your life and having that shattered. So please don’t talk to me about marriage again. I’m sorry to say it like this.”

She walks off, leaving him pondering her words.

Kae-hwa’s words make him look deeper into the cause of her resistance. Thus the next morning, he intercepts Byung-hak just as the latter is leaving his house (humming “Sorry Sorry” in a meta moment, lol).

Min-woo gets to the point, asking aggressively what the heck Byung-hak did to Kae-hwa to make her swear off marriage forever. Byung-hak returns that this is hardly his concern, but Min-woo says it matters “because it’s a hindrance to her marrying me.”

Byunk-hak’s reaction is pure confusion: “Why?” Why would he want a woman like Kae-hwa when he’s a star? Min-woo presses on with his question, which elicits a roundabout answer about how she’s a difficult and tiring woman to live with. Min-woo watches with narrowed eyes, reading between the lines — he cheated, huh?

Defensively, Byung-hak turns it around on Kae-hwa, saying she doesn’t know how to make herself pretty; it felt like he was living with a housekeeper. In fact, he never bought even her flowers — not because he forgot or anything, but simply because he never felt inspired to buy them for her. You know, since looks are the only reason for loving a woman and all. (I’m not even offended by this comment, because Byung-hak is such a silly idiot that the sentiment has no sting coming from him.)

Min-woo asks if he ever apologized for hurting her. Byung-hak laughs, saying it’s embarrassing to do that. Min-woo tells him firmly, “Apologize to her. Ask her officially for her forgiveness.” Byung-hak finds this an odd demand coming from Min-woo, who replies, “I’m asking as the man who loves her.”

Now that Min-woo has made up his mind to woo Kae-hwa, he gets busy trying to win her over. For instance, he waits outside her apartment to give the girls a ride to school, and reacts in concern to hear Kae-hwa hasn’t eaten breakfast. After dropping off the girls, he takes her to a fancy buffet, where he even serves her.

Kae-hwa worries over the pricy food, trying to convince him to watch his spending because he must have lost a lot of money in the cancelled endorsement deals. Min-woo answers matter-of-factly that they probably add up to about 3 billion won ($2.5 million), but is unfazed. He’s got money in the bank and is confident he can get more work; he’ll consider this a luxurious hiatus from work.

Unimpressed, Kae-hwa urges him to adopt a frugal attitude and says she’s better off than he is, since at least she has a regular salary.

At work, a huge arrangement of red roses is delivered, addressed to Kae-hwa from Min-woo. While the other employees all smile at her knowingly, Kae-hwa tries to explain it away in innocent terms: “Can’t this be a thank-you?” They don’t buy it for a second.

Min-woo sends her a text, which is totally over-the-top and ridiculous (“More beautiful than a flower… Kae-hwa”). Embarrassed and uncomfortable, Kae-hwa says she’ll clear the flowers out of the office and takes them to the stairwell, thinking Min-woo is being shameless. But they do bring a smile to her face, as it’s been ages since she’s received flowers from anyone (which is why Min-woo made the gesture in the first place, in reaction to Byung-hak’s remark).

Next, Min-woo takes a cake to Bok-nim in thanks for treating Ye-eun, then asks for a favor, as she is a friend to Kae-hwa. His statement that “I’m intending to marry Yoon Kae-hwa” so shocks her that Bok-nim drops her coffee and stares at him incredulously.

Bok-nim rushes to ask Kae-hwa about it, wanting to know when the wedding is. She dismisses Kae-hwa’s grumbling that he’s just a kid — 28 is plenty grown-up, and the seven-year age difference is nothing. How can she let a guy like him slip through her fingers?

Kae-hwa grumbles that Min-woo’s proposal asked her to be Ye-eun’s mother, not his wife. Bok-nim sees through Kae-hwa’s complaining and smiles: “You really do like Min-woo.” That’s why she’s disappointed over the wording of his proposal, right? Bok-nim waves aside her resistance, saying that if they like each other, what’s the big deal? In her eyes, Min-woo is serious about her.

Min-woo takes the family out to a nice restaurant. Kae-hwa is self-conscious about coming to a place like this where they’ll be watched, but Min-ji enjoys eating out for once, and Min-woo tells her that it doesn’t matter to him. He pats Ye-eun on the head, saying, “I’m going to raise her proudly, since she’s my daughter.” Which is probably the most effective thing he could have said to impress her, and she allows herself to look at him with moony eyes (but only when he’s not looking back at her).

When Kae-hwa takes Ye-eun to the bathroom, Min-woo tries to make conversation with Min-ji. He sees this as a chance to suss out her thoughts and asks if she’d like having a sister like Ye-eun. Min-ji is pretty sharp and asks point-blank, “Are you going to marry my mother?” Her bluntness takes him by surprise, but he confides that he wants to. Still, he has to first hear out Min-ji’s opinion and wait for her mother’s answer.

She asks, “If you end up marrying my mother and then a prettier lady comes along, are you going to divorce my mom?” Min-woo gapes incredulously, but Min-ji points out that he works with beautiful actresses all the time: “If you betray my mother, it’ll be so sad for her.”

He tells her solemnly, “That’ll never happen. I’ll promise that to you.” They pinky-swear on it.

The musical continues its run and after another of Min-woo’s performances, he calls Kae-hwa, who is working late — or at least, she lies that she is. He offers to pick her up from the office, but for whatever reasons (fear, insecurity, nerves), Kae-hwa rejects the offer.

Reporter Han overhears Min-woo muttering to himself after the call, and says knowingly that he must be stuck in an unrequited love. Min-woo is wary, but Reporter Han has some insights about the situation, and his comments pique Min-woo’s curiosity. Wanting to hear more thoughts on his situation, Min-woo goes along with the reporter’s suggestion to grab a drink.

Kae-hwa works late, keeping herself busy to avoid going home right away. Finding her still in the office, Shi-joon offers her a ride home, and they pause for a break to talk. Tentatively, Kae-hwa says she hopes that he and his wife can give things another try, as it seems they still care for each other. Although Shi-joon doesn’t respond, he’s not offended by her statement and in fact seems to consider her words.

He turns the topic to Min-woo, asking how things are between them. Kae-hwa can’t feign ignorance since Shi-joon knows too much, but first she asks how much he knows. He answers, “One person is sending flowers, but the other person doesn’t seem ready to receive them.”

She confirms that Min-woo seems to be serious about a relationship but she’s not sure; she doesn’t feel confident that she can be seen “as a woman” to anybody. Shi-joon tells her she can — enough that he felt something for her for a short while. This stuns her, as he had never given any hint of his interest, but Shi-joon assures her that there is no cause for alarm. He has dealt with his feelings, and things won’t get awkward between them.

Liquor loosens Min-woo’s reserve (and his tongue) enough that he starts to talk freely about his woes, wondering how Kae-hwa can reject his proposal. Grabbing his laptop, the reporter starts to take notes, asking questions about why she rejected him and how long he’s had feelings for her. And I love Min-woo’s answer:

Min-woo: “Since we went looking for Ye-eun. No — since she had to go to the sauna because of me. No — since she fought with Mr. Jung [Yoon-seok]. Or was it from the beginning?”

Reporter Han says he must like her quite a lot, and Min-woo answers, “Yes, an awful lot. She’s different from the women I dated in the past. She’s beautiful. That’s why I think, ‘This is my woman.'” With that, he falls asleep, his head coming to rest on the tabletop.

Huh — well, this is a new side to Min-woo, and the reporter finds him pretty pure-hearted after all. It’s nothing like the partying image he’d had earlier. He starts typing a story about Min-woo’s “heartfelt love story” and uses words like “rebirth as a real actor.”

Han’s article spawns a wave of press, which now portrays Min-woo in a much more down-to-earth, humanistic light. They even declare that he has now washed off the disgrace of his former image as a lousy actor.

Yoon-seok is dissatisfied — I guess this good press does him no good, since he has lost his hold on Min-woo — but everyone else’s opinion of Min-woo makes a drastic upswing. He presents himself modestly in interviews, and even producer Eom is impressed with him. In fact, Eom gives himself credit for having recognized Min-woo’s talents early on, but Byung-hak scoffs since he didn’t do anything about them. Eom counters that he’ll get Min-woo for his next production.

Eom isn’t the only one wanting to cast Min-woo, and Shi-joon conveys an offer to Min-woo from a Japanese producer colleague, who has sent a proposal for Min-woo to take a role in a Japanese drama. Min-woo is pleased with the news, but as soon as he sees that he’d have to live in Japan for a year, he declines. Shi-joon thinks it’s a great opportunity, but Min-woo answers that he has somebody to watch over here.

And that’s not all: Jae-hee hands Kae-hwa some documents to give to Min-woo, which are papers for a new advertising contract offer worth 1 billion won (nearly $1 million). Apparently advertisers love his new image as a dedicated young single father.

Kae-hwa takes the documents to Min-woo’s photo shoot, where he takes a break from posing for a makeup touchup. The makeup artist tells him that his “scandal partner” (Kae-hwa) is really below his level, and offers to introduce him to a younger model friend. She describes the girl as one of those innocent-looking beauties, to which Min-woo answers, “I like sexy women.”

Naturally this is hardly thrilling for Kae-hwa to hear, even though Min-woo is actually making that quip as a way to reject the date. (Rather than saying no outright, saying that he prefers sexy women is a way of declining her friend, who is the opposite.)

Feeling dispirited, Kae-hwa decides not to approach and starts to leave. She runs into Yura, who congratulates her on her relationship and assures her that she has decided to move on.

Kae-hwa hands the envelope to Yura and asks for her to give it to Min-woo, making up the excuse that she’s busy and has to leave. Yura does, and when Min-woo hears the reason, he hurries out and tries to call Kae-hwa. Alas she isn’t answering the phone, so he goes to the theater, where he is told she is still back at the office.

Shi-joon finds her on the roof ignoring Min-woo’s phone call, and offers her a beer. In her melancholy mood, Kae-hwa offers to tell Shi-joon a “really funny story” and confides that Min-woo proposed to her. Even funnier is the fact that her heart thrilled to hear it. It was exciting to be seen as a woman again — but today, that feeling was shattered.

I’d assumed she was hurt by the makeup stylist’s dismissive comments about her, but I’m actually relieved that those words weren’t the cause of her mood. In actuality, it was the sight of him in action, looking like a star, that made her feel like they were completely unsuited for each other: “He seemed like someone from another land.”

Shi-joon points out that Min-woo was a star from the start — it’s not like she didn’t know. Kae-hwa answers that at the beginning, he had nothing to do with her so that wasn’t an issue. But as they got to know each other, she saw him struggling and felt sorry for him, and nagged him when he said silly things — and those things felt comfortable and manageable. Now that he’s doing better… it’s like he’s back to being a lofty star and the chasm is growing between them.

Shi-joon tells her that Min-woo likes her very much — enough to give up a drama opportunity for her. “Min-woo has changed this much — shouldn’t you recognize his feelings?”

Min-woo arrives at the office to find it empty, then recalls the roof. He arrives outside just in time to see Kae-hwa wiping away some tears. So much about this situation upsets him, and he strides up to her, grabs her wrist (urg!), and takes her downstairs.

He feels hurt that she has been ignoring his calls and avoiding him, particularly when she knew he was waiting for her — and now she’s here crying in front of Shi-joon — and raises his voice to a yell. Kae-hwa tells him levelly that she has already given him her reply, but he ignored it. No matter how she thinks about it, they don’t suit.

He argues that if he cared about those things — age, status — he would never have liked her from the start. She returns that this is just proof that he’s young, and they should quit while they’re ahead. And he should go to Japan.

That gets his attention: “Is that why?” He explains that he didn’t tell her about the Japan offer because he never intended to go. She takes issue with his high-handedness in dragging her away, saying that she’s ashamed of him when he does that, and gets angry and starts fights out of misunderstandings.

Min-woo asks, “So are you saying you can’t marry me? Are you saying I won’t do because I’m immature and young?” Kae-hwa answers yes. She can’t marry someone who reacts in such unpredictable ways — it makes her feel uneasy. She storms off, leaving him to shout her name in frustration.

You know, I’m actually relieved that they had this fight. They’ve never fought for real, and this addresses issues that they’ve been skirting thus far. It’s also nice to see some real conflict — genuine emotional clashing and hurt feelings — rather than the glib, fluffy sort of conflict that has characterized most of this show.

That night, Byung-hak calls Kae-hwa, who finds him drunk and in a thoughtful mood. To her surprise, he tells her, “I’m sorry.” He acknowledges that he never apologized properly, so he’s doing it now. She did nothing wrong — he’s the bad guy — and they divorced because he wronged her. But he felt too embarrassed to apologize, so he couldn’t do it: “But after listening to Sung Min-woo, I felt I was really wrong, and that I had to apologize. So I came here.”

That surprises her — he met Min-woo? Byung-hak gives Min-woo some credit for the way he had insisted he apologize, admitting that the kid was pretty impressive with the way he said, “As the man who loves Yoon Kae-hwa, please apologize.”

He says it one more time: “Kae-hwa, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I pushed you aside and hurt your feelings — forgive me for everything. Forget that all, and make a new start. And if he upsets you, come and tell me right away, and I’ll give him a scolding.”

(Aww. An unexpectedly touching moment from Byung-hak. As with the last time he defended Kae-hwa, this gives us a glimpse into why they were married in the first place while also showing us why they didn’t work. It’s rare to see ex-spouses in a drama ending on amicable terms, and it’s a nice change.)

Min-woo comes home feeling frustrated, and looks over his drama proposal documents. This gives him an idea, and he starts typing away. And when we see what he’s drafting — gahhh, Min-woo is so cute. I about died reading the title of his document: “Proposal On Living For Yoon Kae-hwa.”

In the morning, he comes to her apartment and gives her the envelope. He looks at her with puppy dog eyes and tells her to give her response after reading it.

Kae-hwa reads Min-woo’s proposal, which is formatted like a business document. In keeping with the theme of the drama proposal packet, he has drawn up Kae-hwa’s resumé, only it’s more like a life resumé than a professional one, outlining her traits and skills such as “she has a loud voice,” “makes killer ddukbokki and kimbap,” and “she likes Kim Myung-min better than Sung Min-woo, but I want to forgive her anyway.” Also of note: she has become a mother to Ye-eun, “and now is the woman in my heart.”

Under the “future plans” column, he has scheduled marriage in a month, a vacation cruise to celebrate their one-year anniversary, and so forth. Byung-hak’s apology had started to melt her resolve, and now she has to smile a teeny bit at Min-woo’s document.

Jung-ah has been offered a job in Daejeon, which is located in central Korea and about a two-hour drive from Seoul. She asks Shi-joon for his approval, suggesting that they need some space between them. As she leaves, she tells him that she realizes she hasn’t been the best wife to him either (I presume she means before the adultery, since otherwise that statement would be met with a resounding DUH).

But the door isn’t closed on them forever — with Shi-joon now opening up more to Jung-ah and realizing his part in driving his wife away, it looks like they’re leaving room for a reconciliation later, after they’ve both healed. Shi-joon even says he’ll go down to visit her on the weekend.

Min-woo performs another show, after which he checks his phone and tries to contain his disappointment that Kae-hwa hasn’t called. To his (happy) surprise, Kae-hwa finds him sitting in the empty theater, here with a much more conciliatory attitude than the last time they saw each other.

As we know, important conversations must always relocate to prettier environs (can you imagine that car ride over to the waterside? Most awkward silence ever).

Kae-hwa apologizes for her harsh words, telling Min-woo that she didn’t mean it when she pushed him away. She asks for his understanding and also thanks him for thinking of her life and her future (i.e., in his proposal) in such a serious way.

Min-woo has been looking pensive and tense throughout her speech, like he’s bracing himself, sensing that she’s ready to deliver her final decision. So it takes a moment for her next words to really sink in, as she tells him:”So I’m thinking of being courageous now. Thanks to you, I think I can do that now.”

She adds that she’d always thought she would just focus on being a solid support for Min-ji’s benefit, “But if things get hard, it’s okay if lean on someone now.” Min-woo smiles and steps forward to hug her gently, thanking her for her answer. Kae-hwa thanks him back for letting her be courageous again.

Min-woo then thanks her for watching over him and Ye-eun all this while. He promises that from now on, he’ll protect her.

And then they get the swirly-camera kiss — which is a nice way to bookend the drama, considering that this is very similar to how we started. Only, now it actually means something.

The end!

COMMENTS

I picked up Oh My Lady because (1) when it started I had the time, as none of the current Wednesday-Thursday shows had premiered yet and I had no other recap commitments, (2) I had just finished its timeslot predecessor Wish Upon a Star, which was a happy surprise, and therefore anticipated a similar tone for this one, and (3) I wanted to keep up the watching and recapping momentum. There’s also (4) the matter of loving Chae Rim (and wanting her to pick a more enjoyable project than her last, Good Job, Good Job) and (5) the fact that I had pegged Choi Siwon as an idol-star-turned-actor to watch out for after Story of Hyang Dan back in ’07. (See? There IS some thought that goes into these decisions, however random the choices may ultimately seem!)

About halfway through the drama, however, I found my interest flagging, but not enough to drop the show. Even the less interesting episodes were easy to watch, and it wasn’t a challenging show in either theme or plot, so keeping up wasn’t too much of a hardship. I did, however, start thinking that if the actual plot development got any SLOWER, I would seriously consider dropping it.

Ultimately I’m glad I stuck with the show, and the last four episodes in particular gave me a sense of satisfaction about the drama as a whole. It turned into a different drama than the one it originally seemed — which pointed at the hijinks of a star falling for his ajumma maid/manager — and focused much more on Min-woo’s development as a father than as a romantic partner. I don’t think the romance came out of nowhere, but it wasn’t a priority, and that was actually refreshing.

I won’t call Choi Siwon a brilliant actor — he’s pretty decent, but he’s still got a long way to go if he’s going to keep pursuing an acting career, and I think he should — so rather than pure acting skills, it’s his personal charm that carries the character. I mean, just look at that smile, right?

It doesn’t hurt that he’s perfectly cast — image isn’t everything, but it’s a pretty significant part of how we approach a character. And when you cast a star to play a star, you’ve always got that benefit of the audience’s meta awareness of the actor’s real-life fame. (Also see: Choi Ji-woo in A Star’s Lover, Rain in Full House, Jang Geun-seok in You’re Beautiful, Kim Ah-joong in Accidental Couple.)

It was a leetle disappointing to have so little screentime for the two girls in the last episode, but we’ve seen enough of the Cute in previous episodes that I was content to let this finale be Min-woo and Kae-hwa’s exclusively. (Well, there were a few Shi-joon and Jung-ah moments, but I choose to skip right over them in my mind. Yawn. I’m satisfied, story-wise, with where they ended, but don’t need to dwell any longer on them.)

And then there’s Chae Rim. To be honest, I don’t think this is the best vehicle for her, even though the drama really benefits from having her in it. Therefore I’m glad for the drama’s sake, but she’s an actress whose talents weren’t fully used here — particularly since her character was less developed than Min-woo’s, and hardly changed at all. She made the most of it, tapping into a vulnerable side of Kae-hwa that gave the character a hint of depth. But I hope to see her tackling something more challenging in the future, and something out of the ajumma mold, as she’s done two in a row.

All in all, Oh My Lady was a sweet, cute series that could be a fun way to spend a breezy weekend with some unchallenging but personable characters, and that will leave you smiling at the end.

The pd is spending more time with the JE story... two ladies getting jerked around by JS.. watched ep 13 raw and checked soompi's busy blogsite--also really busy with the battle of the JE and JS shippers--apparently the blogsites in China had to bring in other shippers to "modulate" the battle of the shippers....as I've already stated JS has lots of excess baggage ..... Not our MW--he finally got over his baggages, he's a one woman man... KH wouldn't stand for it. MW wouldn't dare!!!
As for SuJu, I love their 2nd jib Don't Don--with the awesome dance MV... it's got lots of familiar enjoyable songs and of course I'm now calling them classics since I really enjoy many songs in that album. So my bootlegged DVDs are on the shelf next to the originals... my testament to the Kdrama addiction syndrome--KDAS...

@doraemon--yeah, OML coming out soon--if you know how to download and convert the net OML videos then it'll tide you over. Hi all Oh My Ladies!

@mel - I really liked your acronym for our dx (diagnosis) "KDAS." I can see it now, walking into a doctor's office saying, "Doc, I got KDAS, and I got it bad! Can you do anything for me?" Doc says, "Regrettably, no cure has yet been discovered, but let me recommend some possible medications to ease the symptoms..." Insert possible symptom-easing medications here > (Your homework, OMLers...)

Hey, KDAS also sounds like a radio station.."Tune into KDAS and tune out the world!"

That reminds me of when my sister won from a radio station something they called "The Incredible Music Machine." (In the '70s) She was so excited to win anything, but when she brought it home she was a bit disappointed - it only played that one radio station! We all laughed and exclaimed (in Pidgin English), "Ho da junk!"

@mel/ace - I can see I will have to give Don't Don another chance. It was a tad hard rockish to me, so I haven't really bothered with the other songs on that album. I look forward to my conversion (it won't take much, since I'm so in Suju mode right now).

Where to go for more specific news on the OML DVD release? For American stuff, I used to go to IMDB (internet movie database) for that kind of info. Perhaps SBS?

It's ok about the Kfest. Luckily, there are lots of Korean restaurants here, and it's not far to our "Koreatown." I just wanted everything to be one place at a time when it should have been!

@koreanpsyche - Good to hear from you. So we have still another name for us? The "merry and crazy ahjummas of Dramabeans"? Yes, that fits me pretty well. Merry? Check! Crazy? Check! Ahjumma? Check again. And thanks to Dramabeans for the forum it is where we can express ourselves in this way!

It does seem unfair that someone (Siwon) can be hot without even trying, but remember what we learned in Strongheart? Leeteuk shared that God is fair, because Siwon is partly deaf? That part was so funny - you must listen to it if you haven't already.

@luvthisdrama - Have a wonderful and safe time in China! Fill us in when you get back. Take some kdrama DVDs w/you to ease the symptoms of KDAS.

@ace - I liked the 7/10 and 7/11 No Other performances, too, except for the omission of Siwon's solo. When he sings again at the end, someone sings with him, or should I say over him, because I can pick out his voice at that part. I love his voice, so I should hear it!

Ooo, so Suju's Premium Japan Live is in DVD form? Add that to my list...

It's funny about your mom humming to Sorry, Sorry. Uh oh, the KDAS begins...

Love ya!

Hello OMLhood,

Back for a visit and OMG it's past 400!!! I stumbled upon http://koreantvshow.blogspot.com which has the english subtitled version of the 2 talk shows featuring CSW (under super junior at the website) that you guys and gals are talking about, happy viewing!

In the midst of watching Tamra, the Island, only my second K-drama. It's very "pride and prejudice" and that's why I'm determined to watch it through. Strangest part is the French actor playing an Englishman speaking English with a French accent. I'm supposing his Korean must be pretty okay though.

@firsttimenewbie and twubble - Welcome back! Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the link, twubble. I shall check it out. Firsttimenewbie - take however long you need to catch up. We'll still be here when you're done. Twubble - thought about watching Tamra - maybe later. Sounds interesting about the English/Frenchman.

@mel - Oh no! They yanked Donghae's SH song! Boohoo...

Greetings to all the Angels in OML hood !

I managed to watch Strong Heart and must say I enjoy watching Siwon being roasted :} He is really really cute. I like his innocent and "honest" answer to the question of why he always get to sing first; if it's from someone else, it will come across as arrogant, but not from Siwon (biased, biased .......). He can get away from murder hah. The part about he called Andy Lau (the HK actor) as "dad" instead of "brother" made me LOL.....Hey, Siwon's mandarin is not bad; if you watch the Taiwan MTV, he spoke in Mandarin.

After watching Wax's Oppa MV (Mel, thanks for the link). it brought back fond memories of the secene where lovely KH trying to cheer a very down MW, one of my favourites !

Can't wait to lay my hands on the OML DVDs .......

@firsttimenewbie and twubble - welcome back!

@mel - I want to be surprised as to who Jin-soo would end up with. He has great chemistry with Eun-young, but after episode 14, I don't know how they'll make it work out (both so stubborn and their timing really sucks). I wouldn't mind if he ends up with Seung-yeon (though I can't see it either). Wondering though if CH would end after 4 more episodes (ep 18) because I Am Legend would premiere and replace it on Aug 2.

@kappy - there are really some lovely songs in the Don't Don album. Try "She's Gone" and "Hate U, Love U". And the repackage album has a DVD which included the relay talk and a "talk to myself" portion where they mentioned their favorite track in the album. That's what made me check the other songs in the album. See http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=super+junior+talk+to+myself+eng+sub&aq=2

@ace - I think I finally watched all the Strongheart Suju video segments (I pulled from several different sites at different times). I laughed so much at many parts. What do you think of that blast? I can't think of an American equivalent to that, except maybe a dunking chamber where someone can throw a ball at a target and dunk the poor soul. Not the same, I know. Never having seen this show before, I was a little confused about the whole goal of the show and how the blast and Strongheart competition thing ties in. Is it - if you can take it - whatever humiliation that may come with being blasted and roasted and your inner feelings exposed and confessions made?

I felt bad for Siwon when they blasted him a second time. Aw, just 'cause he admitted to being like a "bull" when a challenge is put before him. That quality probably explains why he's so talented in so many areas. But I wonder if that also can drive him to take dares that are really stupid? I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt and say "no" to the latter, because I think his religious convictions and values he seems to hold dear balances that out.

Re: Hangeng interview about the SM Ent. dispute. I wonder how many others had similar run-ins with their agencies/managers and just let it go. Couldn't help but think of MinWoo and Mr. fishlips. If what happened to Hangeng happened to me, I'd be doing the same thing. There are limits to the motto "the show must go on", prevention against death being a very important one. I wish the best for him and hope all things turn out good for him in the end.

Re: Don't Don album. The two songs you mentioned are very nice. I think I like "She's Gone" better out of the two. Didn't see much of Siwon singing in them, however. I'll try not to let that influence me either way on appreciating the music.

@kappy - as far as I know, the guests of SH share their entertaining or heartwarming stories that are related to the theme assigned and the guest with the most touching story is presented with the "Strong Heart" title. Apparently, Siwon lost the title to Shindong that's why he got blasted (anyone know who got it at the end? was it Shindong or Kyuhyun?). I admit the 2nd blast was too much but he got even with the hosts by challenging them to try it out. Laughed so hard at Seung Ki's hair after the blast. I guess SW, like anyone else, takes up stupid challenges or dares from time to time. Let 's just hope he learns from those and move on. ; ) Enjoyed his picture as a girl though - and his reaction to it (he was really upset at Leeteuk but he didn't do anything stupid about it). He even showed it a second time when host Ho Dong asked to look at it again. That is some mature guy. =)

I'm so sad about Han Geng's experience. There has been controversies regarding SM Entertainment's treatment of their talents (case in point: 3 members of TVXQ filed a case against the company stating the 13-year contract was excessively long and that the group's earnings were not fairly distributed to the members. The Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of the three members.) There has been rumors before about Korean talent agencies just giving a small portion of the profits to the talents, has very long contract terms, have hefty penalties for early contract termination, etc. From what I gathered each SuJu member signed a different contract. What I think (for what it's worth), is Korean artists sign unfair contracts (maybe/hopefully not all are) because they really want to be famous and it's really their dream to do what they're doing that's why they put up with this kind of treatment and just bear with it quietly. I guess Han Geng's tipping point was he wanted to pursue acting in Korea but his management wasn't giving him opportunities to do it. I'm not saying SM Entertainment has the right to treat their talents shabbily (if it's really happening, then I hope their recording artists file for a mass lawsuit). However for some people, they would do anything to get their dream of fame and fortune. But it's up to the individual artist if he thinks fulfilling his dream is worth signing a 13-year long, unfair contract.

I also like "She's Gone" better even if it's just sung by KRY, Sungmin, Donghae, and Kangmin. =)

@ace & @kappy,and all Angels-DON in the OMLHood, how are all of you, am still keeping track with all the posts here.... Thanks for all the updates on SuJu mostly... on our Siwon. 'can't wait 'til Athena opens on the net to see how SW does. Also, regarding his appearance on SH as well as Win Win, he seems so unreal sometimes. He gets teased, bullied, roasted yet still is so composed. The Soompi CSW site shows one of their bloggers saw him and couldn't believe he is so much more gorgeous in person than in the pictures. Can someone be so unbelievably humble and gorgeous, talented, soooo godlike. Well, can't wait to watch some more of his works as well as SuJu.

During the trip up here to Seattle-Tacoma, 'got to watch many different scenes from OML and watched the transition of MW and KH'selationship. In the beginning KHcalled MW and would get frustrated because he would not pick up her calls. Later in the drama, it was MW who got frustrated because KW would not pick up his calls or pretend that she was answering a "wrong phone number" call. Very funny, how dare KHnot answer MW's calls! Yes, he'd call her for the location of the shirt that was in his hand, episode 15--the children were living with KH in her new home.

@ace, as for CH, I'm frustrated why JS is still hurting the two ladies---he is misleading them both again. Someone commented that JS wasn't hurting them. I disagree, JS suddenly shows up and it's EY's impending re-marriage/wedding to DW (what the heck!!! to her unfaithful ex-and soon to be spouse again... oh no!!) I can't believe it!!! When JS last left, EY told him go on and live your life be happy. EY went on to live her life beyond JS. I understand EY has always loved him but has never handcuffed JS to her. I'm so glad that EY's character is strong and has never misguided him no threatened him with suicide--etc, manipulation to keep JS around. As for the other female lead SY, she is mislead also throughout the whole drama and on Ep 14 SY a part of the JS's facade to supposedly not hurt EY..... and like the rest, I too am part of the confused legions watching this innovative drama. I agree with many who are likin' this CH drama.

Okey, I'll go now and continue watching the many scenes from OML, SuJu and CH... Have a good day all, as well as the world travelers in China and Korea..

Hey friends in the OML haven -

@mel - Glad you're still keeping track of these comments. Hope your trip to Seattle is/was enjoyable. It's great you were able to "fit in" OML scenes. Good observation about the switch with KH and MW in picking up each others' calls.

And did that fan really say Siwon is so much more gorgeous in real life? Wow.

OML scenes that made me smile and laugh -

Today I watched one of the many scenes of MW's jealousy. The article revealing KH and MW possibly living with each other has hit the fan. KH is finally able to contact MW using SJ's phone. After they hang up, that little rant of MW is so cute. "Why is she with HIM? Have they been together all this time? Has she no other friends she can complain to?"

Also a scene that makes me smile is after SJ gives MW advice on how to be a successful actor -- be a better person. Later on at home MW sarcastically mimics how KH might speak (or did?) of SJ..."Oh he's soooo smart! Oh oh!"

As mel mentioned when MW calls KH about the finding the shirt that's clearly been found, he feels rejected when she says they're busy getting ready for school and he hears the girls laughing in the background. "So, they're having a whale of a time without me, are they?" (or something to that effect)

When the girls have moved out, he comes back to his empty apt. and says, "Back to the good old days of bachelorhood. It'll be great. It's so spacious!" Somehow the audience is not convinced.

@ace - I understand what you mean about artists being so excited to achieve their dream of a career in the entertainment business that they end up practically signing their lives away. There's a price for fame, and in some of these cases, it's a hefty one. I mean, how many times do they engage in shows and performances that they just want to skip? No can do. No rest for the weary. Geez, it's gotta get old sometimes. I know with all the stuff they do in the public eye, I benefit from. It's just that I think if they were my children, I'd worry about their health, physical, mental and otherwise.

And thanks for the explanation of Strongheart. As enjoyable as it is, it seems to have a tinge of exploitation to it. That is, if indeed the best revelation of innermost thoughts and feelings wins you the enviable prize.

Yes, Siwon did get back at the hosts of the show. A bit of their own medicine. Seung-gi's hair was hilarious! I don't know if I laughed more at his hair or at the other show host dying laughing. Did you see Siwon go and try to block Seung-gi while he and others fixed his hair? I thought he was just a host, but I see he's going to be in that girlfriend is a gumiho drama.

Hello friends of the OMLhood.

I hope we may continue with this thread, but there's so much we can comment on OML, so our posting of info related to the cast helps in keeping it alive. in Siwon's case, his being part of a large group provides us with a lot of material to share.

I found a clip of Heechul and Kangin talking about Siwon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kdV3TRlLZM&feature=related

Seeing Kangin in it reminded me why i like him. His being out of SuJu promotions, album and other activities after "the incidents" had me forget him a bit.

Recent news from K-Elfs, who have brothers and friends in the military, have reported that he is doing fine and has made a large group of friends due to his friendliness and celebrity gossiping (hehehe).

If you can't get enough of Siwon, here's part 1 of him and other Su Ju members @ 3 Colored Women talk show, in 2007, while promoting Don't Don. The remaining 4 parts are also uploaded on Youtube.

Have a great weekend all!

Hey all...

@ace - Re: that last link. What timing! I just started watching "Attack..." I'm midway.

@lumi - Thanks for the links. There's so much Suju stuff out there but without you guys I really wouldn't know where to start.

Re: 3 Colored Women show. Pointed questions, for sure, esp. about one subject in particular. The women seemed to have such a preoccupation with it. Some of the guys were squirming, it seems, and I don't think because they were guilty, but because they weren't and kept getting bombarded with questions about it as if they were. (I suppose it's because, to the world, it's so unbelievable that not every guy engages in that.) Siwon seemed like he was so close to saying, "Next subject, please!" I wouldn't blame him.

Nice to hear again about Siwon being so comfortable with skinship with the guys. On the other hand, he seems the opposite with girls. I mean, it's not like he won't touch them, he's just not nearly as comfortable doing the same with girls. I believe it's due to his values...not wanting to start something that might be hard to stop before crossing "the line." Not wanting to be taken wrong and lead someone on, perhaps. It's admirable.

Hi all in OML hood/haven land -

Yeah, it's been a quiet weekend in the OML hood. I didn't want to enter another comment so soon in fear of appearing like a monopolizing fool. But I thought those you who have not seen the July 18 performance of No Other might appreciate it, so (in my first attempt to insert a link) here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Aik-V0RtkI

(sorry if it doesn't work)

Different/interesting/cute beginning, pleasant balloon-filled, light-colored atmosphere, and best of all, Siwon seems like he's in such a smiley, good mood!

Hey!!!! Missed you Angels in the OMLHood. 'spouse is driviivng in mid Oregon and me too lurkin around but still it's 468 yey... It's 470s!!! This long drive is getting to these not young bones o mine.... Sigh, it's still quite a long way from home. . 'can't wait...

Yes, I watched bits and pieces of OML and got caught by my 5 yr old niece... She really liked the part where YE got found by daddy MW and soon to be mommy KH.. My niece listened intently why MW and KH were hugging at the store... Still chokes me up when I rewatch and think about that scene.. Both are taking comfort in each other in that soundless EY cannot communicate her needs-wants.

@ace---I also got sooo caught up in CH!! I'm waiting until the very last episode... I just want strong women characters now who dont shortchange themselves in love as well as career...

Soo til next time hopefully home and I can OD on SuJu and more OML.. I need a huge keyboard... This small iPhone keys just doesn't make it easier for me....

Hi, guys! You got me worried with the nonposts this weekend. I went like "Oh no, they're leaving!" You haven't heard from me for quite a while but whenever I can I come and check your posts.

For all the posts, for all the links, thank you! To be honest, most days I'm just too tired to read your posts or follow the links, but knowing you are there makes me content. Strange, right? But that's how it is.

Btw, the reason I'm always tired is my short term field office job at the census bureau. The operation is winding down and at most I have 2 months more in there.

I wish you all a great day/evening. Take care!

Oh Angels in the OMLHood, I am so glad to be back home...California is such a long state, trying to get home hitting the gas is difficult without the CHP around... My poor spouse got so tired that I took over and SuJu music kept me awake and refreshed... as I'm the only passenger crazy DON--for SuJu music, I couldn't put my SJ discs on the car radio so...ipod with an earplug to one ear... I had to make sure I could hear from the other ear in case of an emergency and sung along with the other...I'm practicing 'cuz I'm gonna sing with SuJu on Sept 4, of course get a front seat on that LA Staple Center SMTown concert. Yup, damn right I'm gonna sing along as loud as any young elf at concert..!!! The tickets go on sale this Sat.. Yes, I will be there... I hope the all the current performing members will be there, of course... 'plan on getting some coverage... You guys, if you can make it, I'll even pick you up at the airport!!! Truly!!!

Everybody, thanks for all the links, I still have a huge smile after watching Strong Hearts... Yeah, SiWon--deaf--but he's no dummy, not only is he good looking but SMART... those two big blasts of air were like, waaa are they really going to super roast SW??? Luckily, SW got Hodong and Seungi to feel the "air" too.. And wasn't it just awesome that all the SuJu siblings all automatically got up and just touched up SW--though he didn't need it, he still looked awesome after those strong gusts... What, brotherhood....to fix his hair and clothes... He had his own multi wardrobe mistresses--umm masters...I loved how Donghae, Kyuhyun, Shindong, Euyhyuk and of course Leeteuk took their turns to highlight the SuJu brotherhood... thanks @ace... you comin to LA for SMTown?

And Kappy---you should monopolize as much as you can!!! I was thinking, has the interest in OML and SuJu weaned--disappeared this past weekend?.... During my trip--I lurked here a lot but having an iphone is great but the teeny-tiny keyboard--well, I kept making mistakes or deleted long sentences unintentionally--very frustrating... So, soon a netbook is on the horizon!!! But...Yes, I kept thinking, have all the OML Angels flown?? Who's gonna help provide other links for the prolongation of the SuJu-SW-OML addiction...?

Did you all notice the Mischievous Kiss-Kim Hyun Joong blog is beyond 500 now... Well, that's not gonna last long, the OMLHood's gonna go beyond that!!!

Menci, glad you're lurking but too busy to comment... Hurry, so you can join in... Don't forget the sun protection!!! Twubble, doraemon, Kappy, epyc, Lumi, Kappy, luvthisdrama--you having fun in China?..... everyone, more, more fun... in the OMLHood Angels!!!

Howzit!

Aw Mel, leave it to you to enliven this thread with your enthusiasm. Your effervescence just bubbles over through your words - I think you should be our official cheerleader. We actually have a whole team of cheerleaders here, right? Just busy with life. Let your KDAS shine through, Mel girl! (Oh, and glad you and your Suju/OML/kdramas are back safe!)

And nope, we haven't flown the coop. Glad to hear so many are still lurking and were wondering the same as me. Menci, workin' hard in the field enumerating the US (I guess) citizens where you are...Ace, busy learning the mother tongue of Suju/Siwon (howz that coming, btw? I'm still on lesson 1 on livemocha.com... gotta get a move on!)...Epyc, twubble, koreanpsyche and firsttimenewbie, good to hear from you, and happy you haven't forgotten about us. Lumi, doraemon, and luvthisdrama, keep 'em comin'. Oh, and sajor, where've you been? Wondering if we talk too much about Siwon and Suju to keep your interest. Would love to hear from you. Forgive me if I've forgotten anyone...

Well, with my new found talent I shall grace you with a link, or two, or three, you may find of interest:

http://icepluscoffee.wordpress.com/2010/04/10/pic-siwon-for-elle-magazine/
(pics of Siwon in Elle magazine earlier this year)

http://icepluscoffee.wordpress.com/category/super-junior/choi-siwon/
(All kinds of goodies! News, pics...just keep paging forward. There's even this dashing one of him in Athena that hasn't been on dramabeans yet - a must-see!)

Also, on both those pages, the first listing under latest updates is the MV for Hangeng's new song "Fire." It's definitely a departure from the sweet Hangeng we've seen. Dark and edgy, lots of clawing - oh, and talk of doing his own thing. (Who was it that understands Chinese here? Epyc? An English translation would shed more light, though the English displayed via comic book lines seems to relay the gist.)

Talk to you soon...Enjoy!

I'm in the midst of moving to a new state for a new job, and have been forced to resort to lurking as well. But I am loving that the OML hood is going to hit 500 comments pretty soon --- you guys are amazing!

Also, have you seen the video of Bonamana featuring Siwon, Donghae, and two elephants? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAOrHlq80tg&feature=player_embedded#! The audio is a little weird, just to warn you, but the visuals make it worth it.

I am really digging the follow-up single, "No Other." It always puts me in a good mood, and I think everyone's voice sounds amazing in it (I was getting tired of the auto-tuning with Bonamana, to be honest; it's nice to hear their real voices come out again.)

Menci, stay strong! I was in a similar situation as you a few months ago. But take care of yourself. And I am sure you will find a new position you will like better very soon...

Mel, sounds like someone is going to have a blast at SMTown!

@Sobia! - And God bless Sobia... (Sound of Music-esque) (Been thinking of you, but dang it, forgot to list your name. So good to hear from you!) Must check out the Siwon and "friends" link you supplied. Thanks.

I agree with your thoughts on No Other. Just a happy little ditty with the guys in a pleasant mood, and their real, unautotoned voices shining through.

@Mel - I really enjoyed watching Strong Hearts, too. That brotherhood displayed by Suju when their brother Siwon got blasted twice was really nice to see. They really seem like a tight knit bunch. Sure, they must have their difficult times, but for the most part, they seem a really together group.

One thing for sure, there have been quite a few instances where I've heard Siwon express how grateful he is to be a part of Suju and how much he loves the members. These, and opportunity and growth percs that come with an entertainment contract seem, for them (at least for him) to way outweigh the not-so-fun stuff a contract can sometime entail.

Hi, guys! The aircon is working double hard, it's so hot. How is it where you are? Now heat = sweat, and so someone's comment about a sweaty but sexy SW in one of Soju's performances comes to mind. Could someone provide a link (again?) to that video?. Thanks!

Mel @74, Kappy @ 75, Sobia @ 76, thanks for your concern and words of encouragement. I'm actually having it easy since I'm office based It's the enumerators who get all the stress and the risks. (Last week one got bitten by a dog.) Plus, I get to work with some people who have interesting views on history, politics, finance, religion and everything else under the sun--except Korean drama;-) And I get the excuse of getting out of the house without feeling guilty of leaving alone my now deaf 85-year old mom (who's tied down by an oxygen concentrator but otherwise normal). I guess old age has crept up on me, too, so I feel tired at the end of the day. ;-)

My plan to analyze OML is put on hold for now, Besides, you're having a blast watching Soju, I'm not going to spoil you fun. lol.

Take care!

Hi everyone! Just dropping by...
@Mel - I have other plans this September...If my plan to go to Fremont to visit relatives pushes through, then I would love to "drop by" L.A. to see ya. Though it won't be in time though for the SMTown concert. I'll just wait for SS3...Meanwhile, l enjoyed episodes 15 & 16 of Coffee House. I love Seung-yeon, and despite the age difference, I'd love to see her with Jin-soo (serves him right!). I'm quite satisfied with the Eun-young - Ji-woo pairing. I don't see SY with Dong-wook either. I would love an open ending where SY and/or JS would go to the Galápagos Islands. It doesn't sit well with me for JS and EY to have their happily-ever-after after EY chose for JS to continue his lies...or that they would end up together because of SY, not because they did anything themselves to be together...But we'll see...two more episodes next week..

@Kappy - lessons are progressing. Average study time a day is 6 hours. It's easier and more enjoyable for me to write than read. ; )
Congratulations on the newfound talent!

@Menci - here's a new link to the 7/02 No Other performance, with sweaty=sexy Siwon (시원): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uj-hqHDEqc

To the rest of the gang, hope you're all doing well and still hanging around. Just say "hi" once in a while, okay? =)

Hi ...... all angels at OML hood !

I was rather tied up at work over the past 2 weeks, but I'm still lurking around ..... Yah, I was a bit worried last weekend when the posting just stopped at 468 for a couple of days; I thought that the OML hood may be "dissolved" and felt lost .....I want to thank all for keeping this alive, particularly Ace, Kappy and Mel !

I love No Other too, in fact when I first saw the 0702 live performance, I already fell in love with the song. The video clips have been keeping me company over the past 2 hectic weeks !!

Oh, I didn't get the OML DVD as the version released here is the dubbed version, no Korean language = not able to listen to Siwon........so disappointed !!! But I did get the Suju 4th album and it came with a free poster (but I'm too shy to paste the poster either at home or in office........hahaha)

Got to go ........but I'll be still lurking here !!!!

Wow, where does he get the energy and the time? I mean our Siwon who's making us all proud of his achievements. His profile in MySoju does not list (yet) his appointment as UNICEF envoy but lists a Taiwanese drama he will star in together with Lee Donghae, Ariel Lin and Jerry Yan. Perhaps this info has already been posted here, which of course I missed *embarrassed grin*. The air date is listed as Jan 2011. Too close to Athena, isn't it.

@79 Ace thanks so much for the link. You're the best... I mean one of the best angels, LOL.

Got to go, got to watch a few SW/Sujo videos. Oh wait, did someone say OML is already available? The dvd I mean.

Bye for now. More power to the OMLhood. Take care!

@Menci - "Extravagant Challenge", the Taiwanese drama's initial status was "unconfirmed", then "indefinitely postponed", and the latest news is that Ariel Lin has withdrawn from the drama because of unfair treatment from the production company (rumor is Jerry Yan's salary is favorably higher than hers). The casting of Siwon and Donghae were also not confirmed. MySoju is not always dependable (last year they had on their drama list Full House 2 which supposedly would have aired Sept 2009).

Unfortunately, no OML DVD yet...=(

Siwon tweeted the other day about his appointment as UNICEF envoy. ; ) His latest tweet is that he's excited to sing "Looking for the Day" at the SJ (SS3) concert. He says it will be his blessing song to everyone. To listen to the song and to download, here's the link:

http://www.ilike.com/artist/3rdWaveMusic

Can't wait for SS3 just to hear his version of the song and for SS3's CD. =)

And here's the lyrics for the song:

Verse

Every breath I take, Every move I make

You’re the reason that I live

From the morning dawn, To the setting sun

My life is made to be...

Chorus:

A pleasing offering that praises the king

A living sacrifice that gives you glory

Looking for the day to give you ceaseless praise ...Forever

To join all the saints Inside of Heaven’s Gates

To be in your embrace, To see Your Holy face

Looking for the day to give you ceaseless praise ... Forever

Good morning all -

@Ace - Thanks for the link to that song and lyrics. I caught wind of it just a couple days ago and listened to it and liked it, the catchy tune and especially its uplifting message. That comment off on the right of the page says that Siwon sings the Concetta version. Do you know what Concetta means? Tried looking it up and it's an Italian name (like a surname). Thought maybe it was Italian for concert. Whatever it means, I'd love to hear Siwon sing it.

Re: "Extravagant Challenge", I know the info on that show on My Soju has been there for a while, at least since my interest in Jerry Yan dramas piqued from watching Meteor Garden last year in spring. I didn't know about Siwon's supposed involvement until recently, but as you implied, I wouldn't hold my breath. (I kept watching for Full House 2 to no avail.)

So, 6 hours of Korean a day? You have my admiration! I barely squeeze in an hour, if that. Go for it, girl. You're doing good! If we ever meet together at some stalk-worthy event in Korea, you can be our translator!

@Menci - Yes, I was wondering the same thing about Siwon's seemingly limitless energy and time. Amazing. I'm sure it takes some real management of both, prioritizing being key.

I tried looking for Unicef's job description for "envoy" on Korean Unicef pages or news about its new appointee but couldn't find anything. (I probably didn't search enough.) I did find that envoy is second to ambassador. (Just in case there were any others here somewhat hazy about its meaning.)

Oh, and I think it's funny how often that July 2 performance of Suju's No Other keeps popping up here. How gaga we can go over a little perspiration! Of course, it's gotta be on the right person to equate to sexy. (Man, if Siwon reads this, I can only imagine what he thinks. Bottom line is he should be flattered!)

@doraemon - Good to hear from you, and fear not! We are still here keeping the fire going. I will probably order Suju's 4th album (repackaged) this week. Lucky you got a poster. Wonder if mine will come with one...

Did you see that Shindong will be in Dr. Champ? Thought he was pretty decent in "Attack on the Pin-Up Boys." They all were, to me.

Hi, Siwon's OML angels. TGIF!

@79 Ace: So, what did you write between "Siwon" and the link? I'm so Korean illiterate. ;-) Hats off to you and @Kappy for learning the language. I have the inclination but not the energy. lol

@Kappy, @Ace, I'm so disappointed about Extravagant Challenge. I hope the project is just shelved, not scratched out completely. It will be interesting to see who between Siwon and Jerry Yan will win in the acting and in the sex appeal department.

@ Doraemon, hi, there. Everything's good?

@Mel, @Ace. Thanks for the links. Have you or someone else posted Ariel Lin's
music vid for Fireflies? If not, you will love this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOO7PvSneCA.

Of course if the link has already been posted you would know that 2 special guys make the vid a must see.

Have a good weekend, OML/Siwon/Suju lovers, including the lurkers (as I am every now and then). If you can, do include this thread in your plans. Take care!

@ kappy- don't know what they mean by "concetta" - that's not a musical term at all...

re: studying - got distracted for the past 2 days..the books I ordered were delivered and I just couldn't help opening one and start reading. I've finished 4 out of the 6 in the past 36 hours already. ; )

@ Menci - that was Siwon's name written in Hangeul. =) Since I'm on hiatus for 6 months, I had to do something productive and learning a new language was #1 on my list. Actually, it has been my plan to learn Korean more than a year ago but work got in the way. ; )

I forgot how I enjoyed wa tching their Bonamana performances...too bad these are their last promotions for those two tracks. Maybe one more at Inkigayo tomorrow, then hopefully they "release" a new song from the 4th album before they kick off SS3 in Seoul on Aug 14 &15.

Hiiiiiiiii! (said with Tae Gu's intonation and hand movements) -

Speaking of hand movements, we haven't rehearsed our secret handshake in a while, have we? I've already forgotten how it goes, though I know it involved the snap-out-of-it clap, the what's-going-on-between-KH & SJ? pointing, the time-to-exercise/Supergirl chest hit, the you're-welcome-for-the-smoothies gesture, the because-I'm-Min-Woo hand pump, and the promise-to-Minji pinky handshake. We could also incorporate Kae-Hwaaaaaa gesture, the whoa!-hurry-and-clean-the-place! hand/arm wave, the don't-talk-to-me-I'm-ticked-off-you-moved gesture, and the we'll-just-get-rid-of-that-burnt-egg-shall-we? (forkless). Ooo, doing those last three consecutively will resemble the hula movement for wind - Ha!

@91 a_fan, hi! I went to Soompi a few times when my addiction to OML was at its height. Never got past the home page. Too many popups, could be viral for all I know. And signing up was required before I could get into the forums, which for me was premature. How would I know if the forums were worth my time? Smacked of exclusivity, that was my impression then. I could be wrong. Are you a regular at Soompi? How is it? I mean compared to Dramabeans ( and its javabeans and girlfriday, and its OML ravers--no ranters I've noticed).

Of course my loyalty lies with Dramabeans and the OML/Siwon/Suju angels; will never be persuaded otherwise. ;-)

Posted in siwonlover.blogspot: Super Junior's "Miina" will be sung on 2010 Miss Korea selection to be held on the 25th.

I went ecstatic until I read what followed. "To be held on the 25th, the 2010 Miss Korea Selection shall use Super Junior's 4th album title song, 'Miina' for its congratulation stage."

In other words, the song, yes; Suju, no. Am I right? Anyway, I still hope a video of the event gets posted in youtube and that a link gets posted here.,

Hey guys long time no see! I wish to get my hands on an OML DVD english subbed but I am being thrifty right now because I need all the money I can save up for Seoul SS3. I am going guys!!!!

On another note, here is a lovely story told by Teukie about our Siwonshi:

Leeteuk & Eunhyuk are Siwon's bandmate in Super Junior. Leeteuk is the leader and the oldest.
Leeteuk: “Nearby our house there is a 24hr dukkboki stall that we always patronize. That day, Siwon, Manager hyung and I, went to eat dukkboki at 4am and it was raining. Just at that time, 4 drunken youngsters walked by, one of them shouted “Hey! Look, an idol!”
Normally we won’t welcome this kind of people,
but Siwon calmly said “How are you”, at such unearthly hour he still asks people “Have you eaten?”
The youngsters suddenly say, “Hyungs, we like you all a lot~” We thought they were here to create trouble, Siwon who is still calm said, “Hey, you these kids stop loitering in the middle of the night, faster go home.”

A few more lines from me before I hit the sack:

@86 Kappy. Concetta is the Italian equivalent of the Spanish female name Concepcion, which in English is conception. In religious context it refers to Mary's Immaculate Conception. So perhaps Concetta is a singer who is known within the circle of Christian music listeners. Just my guess.

@90 Kappy. Ah, the secret handshake. I wish we have a video clip of it to help me practice and get it right. Any volunteer? I cannot, I'm techno challenged. ;-)

I can't say goodnight since it is 5:24 a.m. est. Take care!

Hi all in the OML hood/haven -

@Ace - Aw, I am sad we have to say goodbye to future performances of No Other and Bonamana, at least at the frequency we've been enjoying them over the last few weeks. No Other was reduced to under a minute, it seems, but Siwon sang his part at the beginning, so it was all good. And as Doraemon said, this Bonamana had a different feel, though can't really explain it. It's like they put their all into it. My favorite parts of the song are - the shoulder shimmy part, esp. by Eunhyuk and Siwon (after Ryeowook sings, "Chu chu..."), the hahaha part, and the foursome (Kyuhyun, Donghae, Eunhyuk, and Shindong) towards the end. Oh, and Siwon pulling through the bunch at the very end, to center front.

Who is BoA? I see she's an entertainer, but that's about all I know. It'll take a while to think of her rather than my bank (Bank of America) when I see her "name." I wonder what movie they saw...

@a-fan - Hi there. Re: Soompi, my thoughts are the same as Mel and Menci. Having to login seemed too much of a commitment, for one thing. (So I guess in this respect, you could say I have commitment issues. :) Here at Dramabeans I just pop in and visit and "discuss" my favorite show with others of the same mind, or at least very, very similar mind. (The KDAS tainted mind...haha)

@Menci - Okay, I'll try and consolidate my responses to you, since they're so scattered in my head.
- It is hot and humid in Hawaii, but I'm glad I'm not where I used to live, Las Vegas, 'cause that is one sweltering place this time of year, and my friend says this year it's even worse than usual. Glad you got an office job.
- "Miina" at Miss Korea for the congrats stage? Would that be in the same place as "Here She Is, Miss America"? Should be interesting. Wonder if the ladies will attempt some simple steps. Nah. Too bad the Suju guys weren't escorting them to their places, or whatever.
- Thanks for the info on Concetta. I dug more and found a singer/songwriter by that name who is on the rise. Per description, she is a "top-rated vocalist and songwriter who is internationally renowned for her 6-octave powerhouse vocals & stylistic versatility." I wonder if this is the Concetta they refer to. Could have nothing to do with it, I guess, also. (When Siwon sings the song in SS3, let us know, Ace!)

@Mel - So you DO have tickets, but it's not on the floor, right? I'm sorry, I first thought you meant there were absolutely no tickets left, but you didn't faint (on the floor) about it 'cause you'd be outside as an excited fan being heard. (Sorry - takes me a while!) Wow, sounds like those tickets went like hotcakes. I saw that the highest priced ticket was $180. Whew! Anyway,I am jealous! You have a fantastic time, and scream for all of us!

@Vhladynineer - Were you previously here under another name? Anyway, thanks for story about our Siwon. He just keeps getting better and better!

Wow! 500 posts! Congratulations!

@Kappy - LOL @ (after Ryeowook sings, “Chu chu…”) It's actually, "True, true..." ; ) That's also one of my favorite parts!! Everyone looked so happy compared to the last time they performed Bonamana where they all looked so stressed out...

BoA is a singer-songwriter/dancer/model belonging to the same label as SuJu (SM Entertainment) so I guess that's why she's a friend of Siwon. She's quite popular in Japan.
