Captivating The King
What a great sageuk this is turning out to be! If you are not watching it, you are missing out big time. Episode 4 was a feast for great acting, unexpected plot twist and cinematography. It gave me My Dearest vibes, I had to rewatch it and I can tell you that this has not happened since MD days. Great acting from Jo Jung-suk, the scene with his brother was magnificent and the events following it were captivating, to say the least. I am his fan now, this is my first show with him and I find him to be a great actor as NKM.
Can’t wait for the next episodes!

It picked up in ratings also, even doubled it at 6%, which is great for the channel it is on and beatting up the slump show in the same day.

Jo Jung-suk Is great in all his dramas, he does funny very well. Hospital Playlist showcases his range and Jealousy Incarnate is another favourite of mine but it can be a marmite drama as some people hate it.

HA! Marmite drama such a spot on description!

I still amazed that after three years I still discover such incredible actors that I had no clue about them before. I wish I will retire sooner so I can watch more dramas to keep up with you guys. 🤣
Thank you for your sugestions. I have a feeling that I will like Jealousy Incarnate a lot. But medical shows I cannot get into at the moment, too much of that in my life right now. That’s why I will pass on Dr. Slump although I love both ML. Maybe after I retire 🤣

Oh, I just love Jealousy Incarnate so far. I have been binging on it, I am at episode 6. I am so torn between both of them! Was there a better SML than this one in whole kdramas? And I love the FL, I just want to hug her all the time. Thanks for letting me know about it, it is already one of my favorites also.

I’m glad to hear this. I only made it halfway through the first episode and was very bored, but now I’ll go back and give it another try.

I highly recommend another sageuk starred by Jo Jung Seok, The Nokdu Flower.

Can’t go wrong with that. 😊

Thanks, Isa, that will be my next one now that I know who is playing. I have heard a lot of praise here about this show but placed on the shelf due to being really busy during season time (where I live ot’s our busiest time right now) and not really being curious enough about later joseon era. Right now I have my plates full with three sageuks. On weekends I have both new ones plus Rebel during the week ( Honey Lee is so adorable, totaly in love with her also, and I wanted to watch the other drama by my favorite writer ). It’s confusing sometimes, mixing up kings and other characters 🤣, but I am not complaining, it’s a lot of fun.

I want to start Captivating the King, I was waiting to see the reactions to the first episodes. These days I’m watching Love song for illusion (fantasy sageuk, pre-Joseon) and the C-drama A journey to love (wuxia, so almost fantasy too), so I could add a more traditional sageuk.

        2
        1

You should give it a try, if by episode 4 you are not hooked you can drop it. But I think you will be 🤣
How is Love song for illusion? I passed on that one since I don’t know the actors well.
AJTL is on my list also, people seemed to love it. My only experience with C-drama was also my first ever asian content drama when I stumbled on Netflix on The rise of pheonexis and that was quite a ride.

Love song for illusion is bizarre, and the few beanies who are watching it agree on that 😅 Sometimes dark and serious, sometimes silly, sometimes romantic…
It’s mainly a fantasy show, and Korean fantasy is hit or miss. I admit I’m watching it because I think Park Ji Hoon is a good actor and here he has to play two characters.

A Journey to love is fantasy in the Chinese wuxia style, there are imposible jumps and flights, and some fights, but this show is centered on its characters, there are much more dialogues than action, and I like it.

It was a wonderful drama, imo. Acting, OST, cinematography (I should have written it in capital letters because it’s amazing)… The first part has some of the best moments and best scenes I have ever watched in a k-drama (that episode 6 👌🏻). I would have preferred different things for the ending, but it is what it is.

MD update…apparently they did not have enough time, probably should have been 22 episodes, and will, I hope you are not drinking anything, do an extension of the extension.

Thanks to the overwhelming love from viewers, we were able to decide on this extended edition.
I hope that this will be an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the various characters in ‘Lovers’ along with the scenes that were not included in the previous final episode.

\”The most memorable line was \”I should have hugged her because she must have been in pain\” while comforting Gil-chae who confessed her wounds. It was a line that made me cry and gave me a warm feeling from the first time I received the script. As an actor, I was worried a lot about how to express myself, but I want to give strength to those who are having a hard time and are tired.I acted with the mindset that I wanted it to happen, and I remember it the most because it seemed like a line that clearly conveyed Jang Hyun\’s sincerity. Thank you to the viewers who listened to and loved Jang Hyun\’s story. I will come back with a better appearance and better acting in my next work.\”

      Yes, he did. 😍
At the time I read somewhere that the hug was as the writer wanted to hug all those women from that time. I went further and wrote here that it felt as NKM wanted to hug all those that experience hardship and who needs therapy when you have NKM comfort you. It was nice to see that, out of all of his memorable lines, he placed so much thought into this one.
Where is my champaign? I feel like celebrating, damn it! They made it both alive! 🤣🤣🤣

P.S. I meant to write you back but rl kept me busy. I absolutely love our food and drinks jokes, so please continue. What I tried to say and I failed I guess, is that I love our conversations also and to thank you for taking your time to chat with me.

Let us eat, drink and be merry!! Champagne, chocolate and cake. Cannot go wrong with that. 😄

Let us sit back on our sofas 🛋 and chat! I love chatting with you. And thank you too for taking the time to talk to me.

First order of business, a gold medal🎖for the writer. She indeed played with all of us on all levels. 🤣

You know now, after watching the entire drama, I had a face palm moment 🤦‍♀️ that in a show about survival how can she kill the leads. The “ending” was right there, staring at our faces and we didn’t see. Like perhaps many others, I too had somewhat psyched myself to accept a perhaps at best somewhat unhappy ending and at worst an everybody dies ending. But did she laugh out loud at ALL of us. While I was somewhat stunned by the amnesia once more trip, I cannot confess to be anything but pleased as a punch at the ethereal ending. That last scene was poetic and beautiful and life affirming. I never knew a hug can be so powerful.

The other powerful hug scene is of course what Namkoong Min spoke about. I have seen K-dramas handle the topic of returning women in Joseon with varying levels of sensitivity. Tomorrow, Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist and Stealer: The Treasure Keeper are amongst the better ones that I have seen. Rowoon was particularly good in that episode of Tomorrow. What set My Dearest apart was while they never looked away from the horrors, they did not sensationalise it and the respect with which our GC was treated was heartwarming and refreshing and entirely in-character for JH. One could feel her gain strength and bloom with that reassurance.
It was really a very impactful scene and the fact that Namkoong Min chose this amongst the chock-full of powerful scenes in these 21 episodes says a lot.
About the historical accuracy, your trust in the writer was indeed well-founded.👌

        2
        2

Yeah, let’s party! I am offering you a kozunak and some sour cherry liquor from my neck of the woods to try out.

But yes, she played us all, indeed. Well, almost all of us, @indyfan was right on point with RE reveal and the ending. Kudos to her! 👏👏👏
You know already that I think she deserves an award, so yes, let’s give her that medal also. She is a trickster with a heart. As I was watching the final episode I couldn’t get a funny thought out of my mind, I kept thinking of her thoughts while writing the story and it went something like: You complained about my amnesia plot? Here, have another one!  Watch me make it work! 🤣
The finale worked for me and from the twitter chatter it seems it had a positive response. It was a courageous decision, in my opinion, one that many would not take in kdramaland I supose. But she managed to sell it not only to the studio, to the PD and to the actors but also to the public. Can you imagine her selling pitch?  She showed her boldness again, but I already loved that about her. And she did make it work because it was not lazy writing, it was planed from the begining. It kind of prepared us with the fake amnesia first and then with the shorter funny amnesia in order to hit us with the real, hard one in order to make her point, her bet that even in this cruel times, love  can be so big that it trancends wars, dreams, time, sickness and even death. And how perfectly GC’s dream came back to give her hope that maybe, maybe he is alive and maybe, maybe he didn’t show up because he lost his memory again.
I also think that she loved her characters so much that she couldn’t let go of them. She could have killed one or both of them and get an easy way out of the drama but she chose to make it memorable through love. I don’t know about you, but I think that the killing of one or both leads is lazy, overused and asking for a fake attachment for a drama. Sometimes it works if the writing is good but most of the times is just used to get attachment provoking pain. Whereas our writer chose attachment through love. She has a heart and I could feel her gentleness thorughout the drama. It came through when she gave a new life, the real life to the CP and in her portrayal, as you said, of the captives and their drama. How could she have killed them? It is, as you said, a story about survival but also their  relationship has been already tragic enough for so many years.
I am rewatching it now, started the first episode and when the boys recite at the school “the father made your body, the mother nurtured it” (not an exact quote) made me think that almost all the fathers in the story killed or tried to kill their children ( CP, JH and GC). I wonder if she thought that the father gives you the body and he can take ot back also. Then they go and recite something like when you settle that’s when you find peace and hapiness (again, I do not remember exactly) and JH did settle, eventualy, in her  hometown because she was his

Oh, I loved them maybe too much.
It appears that she is landing smoothly, afterall.
Spoilers doesn’t bother me at all, I look for them. I watch it on twitter ( #mydearest and #연인 ) and on MBCdrama youtube page (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq2VILbDhr8). On twitter you get the idea of it, they post scenes as it happen, even clips and you can understand because they have a translation button. On youtube they show a couple of minutes later few minutes clips but is not translated. A few minute after the show, the post about 20 minutes video of all the clips posted earlier, like a short review of the entire episode. That’s how I have been watching every episode. Crazy, right? 🤣

Only a little. 😀 And totally understandable. I’m torn. I so desperately want to know what happens to them. And at the same time, I want to go along with the journey as it unfolds. Argh! *Tears hair out*

Kocowa releases the translated version much earlier (in about 8 hrs). You can sign up and watch it for free because, even if you have to pay for watching the entire show, they let you see it for free in the first 24 hours. I think they post the raw version much earlier than that.

Good to know! Thanks. I’d be asleep then. But maybe I can watch when I first wake? Tho I’m hosting right now so it’s hard to escape responsibilities. You know you have it bad when you want your guests gone just so you can watch a drama. LOL.

Actually I was seeing a BTS for Perfect Marriage Revenge from when they were filming the honeymoon night and Sung Hoon was doing pull ups on what seemed like a curtain rod. Then thanks to the mysterious ways in which internet works I came across this but inadvertently closed the tab before I could share it. ☺ I guess it is perhaps more fitting this way. 😃

I know this is a pivotal turn in history/the show. But excuse me while I weep over the beautiful #17 ending scene.

Maybe I need the extra week in between to get myself together again for the coming storm.

    2
    1

Oh, you don’t know me yet… I am very much with you, Indyfan, probably among the very few here.
It was so beautiful done, just as I expected it. It seemed like the writer wanted to hug all those women that were mistreated at that time (not my comment,I read it somewhere else, but I would add that all the women that are abused even now). Who needs a psychologist when you have NKM to say those words. And I loved GC even more in this episode, if that could have ever been possible. That she remained strong, that she sufered and dealed with all her pain alone without being a burden on anyone, without victimizing herself.
But now, yes, the very much wanted, needed, craved for period of history is coming up. I feel that just as GC is the spokeperson of those women, JH represents the men around the CP at that time, that guided him and helped him. We’ll see what the writer wants us to know about that part of the history, I am sure it will be just as beautiful done.
And yes, I welcome the extension, this show needs it.

They are still filming, although the ending is supposed to be broadcasted in two weeks.
Is this a common thing in SK film industry?

    1
    2

It was very current in the past. The broadcasting catched up the filming and they always finished the drama in a hurry. The main actors didn’t have a lot of time to sleep. Ot if they were hurt, they had to continue to film short time after.

      2
      1

Many Kdramas if produced by Netflix will be fully pre-produced and 100% completed filming, but if it is a drama filmed and produced by one of Korea’s own networks, then it will usually fall into this type of “live-shoot” situation, wherein the drama is still filming as it is airing, and the only fully pre-produced episodes are maybe the first 2-3. For reality/tv shows, I’ve realized that the turnover for an episode is usually 2-3 weeks, but movies are fully pre-produced and finished quite ahead of time before it is released in theatres

      1
      1

Thanks. So it is very common, I can only imagine the stres placed not only on the actors, but the staff also. They did add a thord PD, I see that didn’t help much. Or maybe it did and they will finish on time? 🤣
I was wondering if they are making any changes due to public outcry, because I saw that they cut the HAHA cameo real fast.

        1
        1

Yes, what also comes with the live-shoot system of most Korean dramas is the last minute change ups that may happen during editing, filming, and even the final scripts— worst of all, the final script of scenes or episodes that are supposed to happen on the day of— which then will definitely cause lots of stress, things to be rushed, filming to be extended, etc.
I’m not sure how it is now or if conditions have improved since I last checked out a Kdrama (it’s been a while), but at the peak of what I consider to be the worst filming and production conditions of a Kdrama was when a Kdrama would be filming, editing, and airing it’s finale episode all on the same day the drama wraps/finishes filming and the cast & crew having their wrap-up party to attend to that same evening 😰 Conditions just constantly in a state of “Go! Go! Go”

          1
          2

Changes to a script and editing of an episode to make it what it is when it finally airs does sometimes also get impacted by public sentiment, like you’ve mentioned

            1
            0

I thought those days were over, but it seems that they will have the wrap up party as you said, right near the finale.
I hope they don’t make any changes and keep the level of the production high, even if we are to be heartbroken.
Thank you for all your insights 😊

I am writing to you here since they erased my comments and I don’t know if you had a chance to read my messages to you.
First of all, I am not what they say I am. I am not asking to believe me, but I would like at least to have the chance to be heard. It is a very effective attack meant to silence others that have different views. I was dissapointed that you believed it so quickly as I found you to be more level headed than others here and have enjoyed reading your comments. But it is what it is, I will have to accept it.
Like you, I have two children in their twenties. I raised them in that time when the media was showing round the clock children kidnapped. I think you might remember it and also you might remember when they made it possible to see all the people that lived around you that have been convicted in any child involved cases. As parents, we were terified by on going media reports of such cases. This is not a conservative thing or a Q thing or FOX news, this is CNN and MSNBC channels I am talking about because those were the only ones I was watching. We ended up leaving the country for many years in my former one and for many years I had not been in touch with the politics or life here. We came back right before the elections in 2016 and I voted for democrats and was just as disapointed as every democrat and women when Hillary lost. These are facts about my life. I have been a democrat up until the pandemic, when I started to question many things that were brought up during that time and reasses my standings. I compare a lot with my experiences living in a comunist country and I find many parallels with when the country turned into one. If that is what a Q is, than I will be a Q then, although I have no idea about it. My issue with children stems from that time before we left the country and not from whatever they say. You can imagine that the country I left in 2008 was a lot different than it is now. A feminist or a liberal now is not what it was. The ideas that I hear now that are mainstream are shocking to me. I had to go and research many new things that I had no clue about..

The ideas that I hear now that are mainstream are shocking to me. I had to go and research many new things that I had no clue about. My kids challenged me, calling me all of a sudden many names that are meant to discredit old folks. My daughter was saying that all men are mysoginists.

        0
        1

          @hacja
All of my comments here are coming from the discussions and debates I have with my children. I have no social media accounts so it was like I was transported in a new world. Yes, the world is changing although I have not. I believe that is because of a new social construct they are enforcing on us.
About The Matchmakers, I feel is more of the same. There is a push to legitimize the definition of adult attracted persons. This is not from any conspiracy, just last year or two, the Young Democrats wing of the Netherland Democratic Party was pushing to drop consent from 16, in that country, to 12. This not me again or any conservatives. I will provide you with the links. There are talks on Ted about it. So when one sees that a love, platonic even, and a marriage between a child and an adult are accepted one must think how does that play with what they are trying to push in real life. And how is that a Q thing and not a concerned mother thing?
Did you, as a parent and a teacher, not find it a bit weird? When in history even did this happen? How many crown princes married an adult when they were a child? Usually they were about 2-r years differences. How many married out of love? None that I know. Of course the kids were married at that time but there was no love, those poor souls were forced and is seen as something very bad. Why is this seen as a good thing? Because they loved eachother? Platonic, ok. Are we ready to accept platonic love marriages between kids and adults? Well, I certainly am not because I believe that children’s mind are not mature at that time. It was wrong when they were forced and it is wrong when they say are in love. This plays into people mind to accept the minor attracted people’s agenda. It doens’t matter that the show did not show anything explicit, we all know that the Queen main reason to get married was to produce a heir. It is implied by the marriage.

            @hacja
I am still in shock that I still have to defend from the personal attacks I received from this. And what do I believe to recieve such attacks? That a love between a child and an adult that results in a marriage should not be seen as a good thing? And that if we accept it that easily, we as a society will accept other things in RL? Because this is what kdramas are now, not an entertainment only but a means to also push political agendas.
This is the link I was talking about:

            https://europeanconservative.com/articles/news/dutch-governing-party-advocates-accepting-pedophilia-and-teaching-it-in-schools/

Last year when I read about it, the statement link was working, it took you to their party site where I was able to translate it and it was confirmed. Now I see that they erased it but there are other articles that can confirm it.

@kodra I’m sorry you feel this way about the state of the world. As someone who taught history for 40 years, I can say there are always trends that are upsetting to various groups. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and then there were people who saw a threat of communist takeover in youth protests about Vietnam, or who saw in sexual liberation the destruction of the family. It didn’t happen in the U.S. and I am very confident it will not in in the time I have left on earth. But also, I am very confident about my children, who are smart, loving, decent, and concerned about society. All of their friends I know are the same. Just as there are reasons to be worried about the future of humanity, there are a lot of reasons to be confident as well. However, I realize that some guy on the internet talking about his faith in the younger generation is not going change your mind. The only thing I would say is that it is valuable to ask about this conspiracy–who would benefit ? It is only people like “Q” or others who use fears they themselves encourage to scam people and raise money. I hope you have not donated to any groups that encourage your fears, because there are many victims who have lost all their savings to such people!

ON Matchmakers, though, as I’m sure people have pointed out to you, actually child brides were common enough in all societies, so its not particularly shocking to see it portrayed in a historical drama, and as far as the show there was absolutely nothing sexual in the portrayal. I think even you have to agree that Kdramas mostly avoid any sexual themes, so even if you are deeply concerned about a conspiracy, you can watch kdramas without fear of their corrupting influences.
And of course, if you are afraid of their influence, its also possible to stop watching. That’s the beauty of these type of shows–no one is being forced to watch them!

            @hacja
I can assure you that I have not donated to any political party or any organizations. I do not participate in any other forums, I have a very normal life. I do believe that humanity and common sense will prevail but it is harder than ever before with all the social media influence. I do find the “Q” conspiracies just as horryfing as the one that believe that all men are evil and that the nuclear family is to be distroyed. I think that when it comes to that, the radical feminists are wrong and they have lost me. I cannot support that because I have happy marriage of over 30 years with a wonderful man that supported me in my carrier and shared with me all the house work and child raising responsabilities. I have been his equal from the start. I had our children through graduate school and I can assure that if he did not postponed his school and not worked nights so I could go to school during the day, I would not have been able to have a succesful carrier. I have a great and inteligent son that spends his time thinking about the inequalities in this world and hopes for a better future for all. I have a daughter that is as independent and feminist as I am. I am as much in the central zone as one can be. Maybe because the discussions here are so much to the left that I appear more to the right side, but I can certainly say that I am not. Maybe the beanies and the world are too much to the extreme left, don’t you think?
As I said before, it is the love between them that irks me, not the fact that children were married at that time, which was of course awfull. This is not a Q thing as long as there are people that would like that and promote it. I did not come up with the minor atracted persons term and I do not think that the Q came up with that also. Those people came up with it to accept them just like we accept any sexual orientation. This is not me saying that I believe the Q conspiracies that claim the crazyness about the democrats because that is crazy and I do not support them. But there are such things and should not be dissmised just because the Q says many crazy things.

The love of a child and an adult should not be accepted, and certainly not one that ends up in a marriage. The fact that it is so accepted here, almost seen as something natural and normal, scares me even more. Even when beanies say that it probably would becone sexual after the child reaches maturity it scares me because he started that relationship when he was not mature and she was. To me that part in the show does not matter because the the idea of a child to decide to get married to an adult because of his feelings of love is wrong. It is the principle of it and if we accept that then who is to say that the society will not accept it in 20 years in RL and people will accept that minor attracted people are just part of a normal sexual orientation they can be allowed to be loved by children. I just don’t get it how come you guys don’t get it.

Hi @kodra – can you give us a clue what this is? Lots of people are reluctant to click on a “naked” link in case it goes somewhere really sketchy.

@kodra You don’t need to listen to me one bit, but if you type the following into the compose window, replacing the square brackets (‘[]’) with angled brackets (the ones that look like greater-than and less-than symbols), you get what happens above.

    [img src=”https://video.twimg.com/tweet_video/F8iniY9boAAUTWT.mp4″ /]

Lots more people get to see what you have to share this way!!!

@claire2009 Again, I fail the tutoring test. Could you offer poor @kodra links to your better tutorials than my stupid explaining?

Hi Kodra, if you copy the whole line below:

    img src=”https://video.twimg.com/tweet_video/F8iniY9boAAUTWT.mp4″

and paste in in between two angle brackets like below

Then the whole thing will look as below

Now you copy the whole thing from bracket to bracket and paste it into your comment window or new post window and hit SEND/POST. That’s it.

Just remember, the double quotation marks must be straight-down like below

You know who is stupid? My phone! 🤣🤣🤣
I did exactly as you said, copied the line, placed the brackets and still got that image!
Thank you and @Seon-ha for being so kind to help this tech incompetent fool! 🤣 You guys are great!

Then my phone is stupid too 😂. Honestly, I had to save the straight quotation marks in a note on my phone and copy/paste them every single time, just for ease of use.

This is me pasting that line below. I think your quotation marks are not straight. When I gave you that line in my comment, Dramabeans comment window changed it to the tilted ones. So in your text editor (MS Word, Notes app,….) you have to change them to the straight ones before copying and pasting. Can you try that one more time?

I saw the tilted one and I changed it to ” and still got the same result. Can you post it?

I swear they were straight when I post it 🤣

@kodra I know, it’s frustrating (I’m hearing @attiton sighing in frustration!!). We couldn’t post it because it will be changed to the tilted one 😅. Same thing with the angle brackets. They never appear in any text because they are the code 🙂

OMG! I got a beansprout! I got a beansprout! (imagine me singing and dancing, please)
Thank you, but I think @claire2009 and @attiton deserve each one more than I do. They were so kind with their time and so patient. I hope, no..I know I will master it and you all will get tired of my gifs! 🤣 I just have to get rid of this stupid phone first, I can see most of but not all of others gifs.
I am really enjoying my time here, so happy I decided to sign up. I hope I have more time to watch more dramas, but I plan to. Speaking of time, sorry I replied so late, I sneaked in a “like” and I wanted to respond sooner but RL has been keeping me so busy these days.
            Thank you all again!

I am pleased you liked your reward🥰.

We are glad you signed up too and that you have jumped in on the gifs. I have been here nearly 18 months and I am still at the basic level re adding things on my fan wall and elsewhere. I use my iPad and therefore it feels like hard work to apply the strategies, so I am always impressed when beanies do everything via a mobile.

We all have real life events that impact on our engagement here so don’t worry about delayed responses. Sometimes a like is the best we can do and people understand that.

I hope you get your phone upgrade soon so you can have full access to all the fun elements of the fan wall.

Even when I copied the straight quotation mark from the notes app, it still changes to the tilted one.

It will change to the tilted one once posted. In the composing window, if you copied the straight one from Notes app, it would still appear straight once pasted, right?

It is my stupid phone because I cannot see the gif above and you do 🤣
Now that I learned how to, (i think I do?), I will try to post gifs in the future from another device.
Thank you for your time 🤣

@kodra Yes I can see two GIFs posted by you. Glad it worked out.
And don’t feel discouraged! Do you know the fanwall posting challenge is what DB owners use to test our passion and loyalty? 😉

            Just kidding 😀

This is, I assume for whomever will read it, a laughable situation. 🤣 Even though I feel a tad embarrased, I will keep the post in case I will need your great tutorials in the future. I hope to have time to learn how to make my own, on my other phone, of course 🤣

🫘Beansprout🌱 awarded for perseverance in the face of adversity.

I am glad you kept the conversation because it demonstrated that there were multiple elements conspiring against you but you were not left hanging as the Beanie techies came in as a tag team and took technology on and even though you couldn’t see your success the rest of us could and hopefully when you used a computer or tablet at a later point you saw it too. Well done on learning a new skill.

@kiara
Apparently, there is at least one time when the divorce was allowed but it appears only when the nobles asked for it. So there is still hope 🙂

    @Kodra

This article is on my wall post on MARRIAGE, DIVORCE, and WIDOWS REMARRIAGE BAN.
    https://www.dramabeans.com/members/kiara/?page=fan_wall
Divorce was rare but always allowed; the conditions favored Joseon men (the husband).

I read already all of your recent post. 🤣 What I missed probably was Injo allowing the divorce for that reason only because the females were not at fault of being kidnapped.

      1

At first, he didn’t allow it because the women were not at fault, but he changed his mind later and compromised because of pressure from noblemen in his court.
The noblemen complained that their wives were now damaged goods, and some refused to take them back.

I need some help, please. I see that some of you are very tech savvy…how can I save just the video from this tweet?

I’m not on Twitter, so take this with multiple grains of salt, but…

My understanding is that you can’t just do it with clever computer commands — you need some specialized program to do it, either a browser add-on or a standalone program. There are lots of both that claim to do it, but…

This is ugly because there are probably more malicious and/or buggy apps trying to pull you in than there are good ones. I hesitate to advise anyone to install anything because the risk is never zero, but there are a few things that might help protect you.
1: Stick to apps that have existed for years, on the theory that whatever evils lurk might have already been caught. This isn’t perfect because apps that started well-intentioned might go over to the dark side later. Also, if everyone did it life would be very hard for startups.
2: For browser add-ons/extensions, use only the official app store.
3: Don’t trust user reviews. Baddies will salt their sites with lots of fakes. This is less of a concern if there are 10s of thousands than if there are dozens. (Again, life is tough for startups).
4: It’s safer to go with apps that have a paid option, even if you go with their free little brother. Developers want to make money somehow and if they aren’t getting it openly and harmlessly then they are more likely to be evil.
5: Have really good security software.

I can neither confirm nor deny that I have used a somewhat flaky browser extension in that past, or that I currently have the free version of a standalone program that seems to work well, except to note that the program I might or might not use does not claim to work with Twitter.

You can paste the url on a website called ‘twittervideodownloader’ and it’ll give you a download link.
