Beanie level: Noble idiot

Looks like the Japanese version of In Time With You is closely following the Taiwanese version….

Oh my God IMAGINE if Angel Last Mission Love had taken the Kal Ho Na Ho route instead

That could have made for one intensely beautiful tragedy if it was done right

So I watched the first episode of TW drama Before We Get Married and idk how to feel about it yet. What\’s the general verdict around here?

From why I can remember, many don’t like it. I appreciate it though and I’m still watching it.

    1
    2

What do you like about it? I think I want to check it out eventually but am waiting for more episodes to come out. I’m not usually into adultery stories but this one intrigues me for some reason.

      1

I’d like to think I don’t mind adultery stories if they’re done well and don’t romanticize the idea – they’re self-aware. It has a whopping 9.0 on mydramalist, which I know isn’t wholly representative of its quality, but I’m still curious as to why people like it so much

        1
        1

It’s self-aware. I think that’s one of the reasons for liking it as I do maybe? Both leads are bad people, but they have some complexity to them. The side characters comment on the leads respective situations much in the same way the audience/viewers would, so you are not left there screaming at the screen too much.

It’s also not your typical love story. Maybe I’m in need of a change of pace?

          0
          1

OK I definitely want to check it out now. I love the idea of having two morally grey leads. It’s so much better when the characters are self-aware because it makes their arcs less predictable.

Please tell me the ML gets less assault-prone. I don’t mind a cocky personality and I quite enjoyed his character until the second half of the first episode when we got to the ‘matchmaking’ party.

      1
      2

He does, for the most part.

        0
        0

Actually, strike that. He does make unwanted advances, but the problem is that the FL character in a way says one thing and does another. So basically she will say no, but then with a kiss for example, she will reciprocate then push away. It’s really dangerous waters.

Sometimes I hate how sheltered I’ve been while growing up. The bus driver today was kinda cute and he helped me with my bike and struck a conversation with me during the ride.
Started with the good ‘ol “So where are you originally from” and I thought I was being cute by asking him to guess. MEANWHILE INTERNALLY SCREAMING AT MYSELF TO JUST STOP TALKING

I want to reach that crazed stage of love for Angel Last Mission where I begin to ignore all its flaws and immerse myself in all its goodness. I want this to be THAT drama for me.

I liked the Korean version much better though :P. I’m curious who sang the English one though, the voice was unique

I was scrolling through my Camera Roll and came across this lovely picture from more than a month ago, and it brought back all these wonderful memories and reminded me of how happy this show used to make me.

Despite all my qualms, I can’t deny the extent to which this OTP had won my heart. Probably one of the few times seeing two people together onscreen truly made my day. Enough to elicit the same positive feelings in me when I stumbled upon this a whole month later.

PMY and KJW – y’all were magical ❤️

Out of curiosity I read the entire webtoon the drama starring Kim Hye Yoon and SF9’s Rowoon is based on and finished it in one sitting….

It’s called July Found By Chance and it was SO much fun. Like the articles have been saying, it’s about a girl who finds out she’s just a character in a manhwa and how she then begins to rebel against her “pre-set” destiny. I know it rings a lot of ‘W’ bells, but it’s quite different from W in that it’s solely from the manhwa characters’ perspectives and there’s minimal involvement from the ‘creators’.

It’s a fantasy with well-established, consistent rules (so far anyway), unlike…*cough*W*cough*. I actually…really enjoyed it surprisingly. There are only 33 chapters out so I don’t get why they’re doing an adaptation so soon. I really hope they do the manhwa justice because it’s a pretty cool plot. The female lead is also amazingly badass – she’s the ultimate star of this story, and while the ML is a cutie, it ain’t his tale to tell (and I hope it stays that way)

At first, I dismissed this drama as just another youth romance. But reading the article about how these characters are actually manhwa characters made me more interested in it. I hope the drama is as fun as the original webtoon.

Every episode leaves me more confused than the last but the FEEEELLLSSSSSSS are keeping me on this for the long ride

Episode 8 has left me legitimately breathless, especially the entire second half.

SHIN HYE SUN YOU IS A GOD I cannot believe this is the first work of hers I’ve seen – SHE IS AMAZING

I really should’ve waited to binge this so I could freely drown myself in the intense emotions and not question the logic fails after every episode

Sin Hye Sun give one of her best effort here. Never seen she can play this fierce woman. How can she manage to make this drama watchable is beyond me.

I wasn’t sold at first either but when she wakes up from the coma it really grabbed me. Shin Hye Sun has a way of making her characters very sympathetic. She’s the only actress who makes me tear up.

Han Seo Hee being \’A\’ is THE plot twist of the year

Someone really needs to make a corruption-thriller kdrama based on YG

Get someone like Forest of Secrets PD on board to head the whole thing and you’d have an A1 Baeksang-worthy show that I WOULD DEFINITELY put my money down for

Han Seo Hee must seem like Irene Adler (Sherlock), feared and kept safe by the information she possesses

Gosh I feel like the guy directing Nina\’s scenes in ALML is completely different from the one directing the rest of the drama because her scenes are so out of focus and confusing

Shin Hye Sun reminds me of Nadine Lustre (Filipino actress) for some reason.

I think a lot of it might be visuals, but another reason may be that I’ve mostly seen Nadine play characters where the female lead is extremely non-receptive and emotionally distant from the male lead at first, like Yeon Seo is here and they just gave me very similar vibes.

And Matil’s bubbly personality is JUST like Nadine irl so I’m seeing so much of her in SHS

Secret Life of my Secretary Episode 10 thoughts in comments

1/ Unless Do Min Ik gets his prosopagnosia cured by the end, I honestly don’t know how he’ll be able to trust Jung Gal Hee again, given that she’s the *one* person who’s taken advantage of his condition the most. That’s some kinda deep, irreparable damage right there, but hey let’s see what happens.

2/ Alas, the show has now resorted to illogical reasons to keep JGH impersonating Veronica Park. Most of all, they’re selfishly insane. Veronica Park plays the victim card and says that since she’s been SO HURT by guys in the past, she’d like to string along a guy her family wants her to marry, while she figures out her relationship with another. But here’s the thing – I’d understand if homegirl wants to keep her options open and wants to make sure she’s getting at least one hot ass guy in the end. But that’s not what she wants. By having JGH continue the ruse, isn’t she just making it harder to escape her impending wedding with DMI, regardless of whether or not she ends up dating Ki Dae Ju seriously? She doesn’t even want DMI as a second option, which is why I don’t understand her need to string him along as well. Unless it’s for a business deal and I missed something?? If it’s for her mom that’s just stupid because she’s going to have to come clean anyway, and the sooner before her wedding the better….right?

3/ Somehow I cannot bring myself to completely hate JGH even though she’s the reason this whole thing started and has come to this point. Instead, I feel like an overwhelming sense of pity. I think she has some serious self-worth and esteem issues that she REALLY needs to work through. I’m not excusing her actions, but I understand them because she’s kind of living in the moment, and she’s 110% sure her feelings are not reciprocated, so she does not see the long-term consequences of her actions on their relationship. She doesn’t see a future with DMI, so for her, the time they have left together is just a matter of her telling him the truth, because it’s not like he was going to like her anyway. I’m glad she at least feels guilty for deceiving him, but at the same time she’s being selfish in her continuation of the ruse. Even if she thinks he won’t like her back, he’s still going to be extremely hurt considering his past secretary trauma. To disregard that fact for some temporary satisfaction. Yeah…no

4/ LMAO DID THEY REALLY PERFORM CPR ON A FISH

5/ This show is so pleasingly cheesy. I’m findings things that would normally turn me off adorable. That whole floating moss thing. So cute.

6/ Haha that “cliffhanger” was so corny, but I’m not expecting a proper answer from Dumb Min Ik at this point. Preview looks kind of promising and cute thoug. JGH YOU BETTER CONFESSSSSS

7/ Last point – for some reason, I hope the mastermind behind the whole murder plot ends up being his ‘mom’. That’s going to be one sick twist

on #7, I’ve been thinking that too, but I’m not sure why other than she doesn’t need him anymore once she gets control of the company? and she hates him because he’s not her son?

      #4, #5 – yes!

      0
      1

#6 – I’m kind of expecting him to confess that he is confused because he feels like they are the same person, even though he “knows” they are not.

Not sure why DG doesn’t get it that JGH was impersonating VP.

Give me one kdrama where the male lead chaebol gets stripped of his riches, or even voluntarily gives up his rich life – something like what happened to Rafael in Jane The Virgin

5

I haven’t seen Jane the Virgin, but KillMe, Heal Me is one.

    4

I have seem examples in k-drama where this happens. A couple of examples off the top of my head: Shining Inheritance (hero’s family’s company is given away to the workers) and Secret Garden (to protest hero being with heroine, his mother disinherited the hero – at dramas end he was still disinherited).

    SKL

Does he stay poor till the end though?

      0
      1

No. He returned to his super rich lifestyle but let someone smarter run his company and settled being a small dept manager which is the most he could handle.

I don’t think any character stays poor. Even when I think of Park Seo Jun in Summon You Gold, where he disowned his father to stay married to his wife, gone from splurging casa nova to faithful fried chicken delivery guy, eventually his evil step mother repented and he was re-accepted into the family.

Haven’t seen the one you mentioned, but kill me heal me and shopping king Luise has that trope

Not gonna happen because their money is the only thing interesting about them.

    3
    1

I’m pretty sure the 2nd lead pairing in Strongest Deliveryman did this together? Both voluntarily gave up their riches.

    3
    1

Another drama where the chaebol gives up his riches is the social satire Heard It Through the Grapevine. In this drama the teenaged son of a very rich family is given an ultimatum to either stay with his parents or give up his wealthy lifestyle for his teenage wife. He chooses his wife and at the end of the drama in order to continue his education he signs away all rights to his parent’s wealth.

Thought of one more: King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo. In this drama both Kim Tak Goo and his (kinda) half brother Goo Ma Jun leave the family business, turning over management to their older half sister. Kim Tak Goo returns to his previous employer, a small company, while Goo Ma Jun and Shin Yoo Kyung reconcile and decide to leave and travel.

King of Baking also has that rare distinction where the female lead ends up with the second male lead. They truly had one messed up, dysfunctional relationship, which was quite fun to watch.

Gal Hee needs to step away from all these chaebols and date a normal guy, but not before she gains confidence in her status and self-worth.

I can’t deal with how cute they are. Every single one of their interactions is gold.

Ughhhh I was yelling ‘HE KNOWS HE KNOWSSS’ and then ‘…he doesn’t know?’ and then ‘HE KNOWS’ and then ‘maybe he doesn’t know’. He’s just so all up in her grill and touchy with her like he knows…but i guess not.

    5
    1

I think that’s the point, that he’s actually in love with his secretary which is why he’s so affectionate with her rather than Veronica Park

He’s going to lose his sh*t when he finds out that’s for sure….

I gave in and watched all 4 episodes of Angel because I. JUST. COULDN’T. WAIT. But I realized how much I enjoy binge-watching so I think I’m going to wait till it’s over and stay away until then.

Let’s see how well THAT goes after Episode 4’s crazy cliffhanger ending…
