Beanie level: Jang Geu-rae

From Dosan/Yongsan/Injae growing to Jipeyong staying constant – I love this episode. Writer-nim, thank you for this rollercoaster ride. I see what you’re doing and I love you three!

Binge watching season 4 of 2D1N and I realise there is a glue IF start-up breaks my heart. It’s KSH being his goofiest self ever. It befuddles my mind how the same man is suave HJP.

I started 2D1N a few weeks ago, since I totally went down the Kim Seon-Ho rabbit hole. It’s my happy pill right now 💕

He’s not the Daehangno idol for nothing. Even his HJP character befuddles Dindin.

Him smiling today is SO precious, I want to wrap him in cotton wool and protect him from the world!

Seems like the writers have sent him into the battlefield without any armour or even artillery! Ugh.

    Yay! Isn’t 2D1N the best?

Kim Bum is so stinking cute in the TONT spinoff.
Also, can these two beautiful and talented people get a show of their own! JEBAL!!!!

According to the show brief, HJP is the “Gordon Ramsay of investments.” He’s so tame in comparison. He’s like the Mother Teresa version of Gordon Ramsay. 😂

That was one weird character description. I was scratching my head when I first read it.

I feel like Girdon is mean only on Masterchef US. All the other ( non-American) shows that I have seen him on, he seems pretty decent. Also maybe it’s just me but the guy seems like the kind of person who will give you tough love but you will learn ro respect him in the end

    1
    1

Yeah it’s only the US shows he acts like that. He’s pretty chill in other countries. Its the Simon Cowell effect.

Some scenes are SO worth the wait. Like HJP finding out about Haelmoni. I believe Dalmi asking about the letters and Dosan finding out about HJP’s background will also be worth the wait. It’ll be HUGE

Talk about a freaking turn-around! Thank you Start-up! PS: that preview, WHOA!!

Did you like it or did you not like it? I’m yet to watch it so I’m curious

There were a few parts that I absolutely loved and they outweighed the bad, so it’s a win in my books..

I like what I see in the preview; but I don’t think I can talk about it here right as it will be considered a spoiler.

Two things became crystal clear on Start-Up today. Who really has Samsan tech’s best interest at heart and whose interest has claimed Dalmi’s heart.

I’ve noticed this trend. When one episode is Dosan heavy, the next is almost always Jipeyong heavy. Hopefully tomorrow is his day 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 I’ve come to realise, I just like seeing KSH on screen. He can just be sleeping, eating, driving, talking to Yongsil, Haelmoni, NDS, Dalmi et al. As long as he’s breathing on screen, I’m happy.

      8
      3

Omo now you have given me hope.

*planning things to be done tomorrow so I have ep.12 all to myself afterwards.*

Hope is a dangerous thing to hold on to in the KDrama world. But what the heck, I’ll hope with you!

BUT what if he’s gonna be crying non-stop tomorrow? Oh my heartu 😭💔

I agree about him being on-screen but i’m not sure if i can handle that beaten up look he had in previews.

        1
        1

Beaten up physically and emotionally. We’re in for a gut wrenching episode.

One love triangle ends, only for another to take its place! If not for the webtoon I’d be tearing my hair out. Have to say though, both Suho and Seojun are lovely and Jugyeong is a lucky girl.

That moment I said to myself “Oh shoot, not again!!!!!”

Love him to pieces. That is one of the loveliest HJP’s smile scenes I ever saw in the show up until now: The scene he was smiling/laughing to himself watching Dalmi laughing hysterically at the bus stop.

I’m not even sure I’m allowed to post this, and I’ll delete it immediately if I’m not allowed to. But this person right here deserves a standing ovation for her analysis on JiDal.

OMG Every Team Ji-pyeong members/ KSH’s fans must read this!!! I almost teared up!

Let’s play ‘Fate’ gives this show a twist and turn from the usual expectations. Let it give us something we can talk about for a very LONG time.

Is there a vaccine for the fatal HJP syndrome?? This man has taken over so much heart and headspace I can’t concentrate on my bias Choi Minho’s return. How do I undo this takeover?

7
2

First you have to watch 1N2D, then perhaps Waikiki 2, and then perhaps 100 Days My Prince, and then perhaps Strongest Delivery Man, and then perhaps You Drive Me Crazy, and then perhaps a number of videos featuring him on Youtube…

Ah.. my life is definitely ruined.

Annddd Catch the Ghost. I mean KSH as a lead for 16 episodes is a huge plus in my book.

Since everybody and their grandma thinks HJP will not be the man SDM picks (I still believe my ending MIGHT come to pass), how do you think they’ll end his story on Start-up? Any theories???

3
14

I’m guessing he is gonna be the one who gains a family friends and learns to open up to people he cares about

    3
    1

The only family and friend he has is Yong Shil, (not even going to mention Haelmoni anymore because she’s always been team SDM) so you think they’ll give him a family and friends in the time jump?

      3
      1

They’ll give him some dumb ending where he’ll learn to be nicer/more emotionally open.

I wouldn’t mind a spin-off without Dal-mi and the 3Sans, in which it’s Ji-pyeong as lead with halmeoni as nagging surrogate parent.

    6
    2

You know I’d fully have supported this spinoff if she hadn’t thoroughly dismissed his feelings. She really broke his heart and mine.

      2

Adventures in Venture Capital … surely there are enough odd/funny/crazy/whatever stories to make a nice drama? Sort of like a hospital procedural but with ideas and true believers and their problems…

      I’d watch

      2
      1

I’d definitely watch this! I’d take snarky VC HPJ any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s.

with a token partner for that happily ever after ending?
maybe injae suddenly get a character development and jipyeong and injae finally talk and boom! a power couple at 50mins mark of final ep
    😏😏
    jk jk

honestly, I just hope he is happy and they wont do him dirty after giving his character so much depth and pain

    3
    1

I believe he’ll get a happy ending. They won’t give him a sad one after putting him through so much. But I’m still not sure how. Neither Injae nor a token partner sit right with me.

      3
      0

If it was up to me, DM does not have to pick anyone. She will have her own story and not just a “prize” for the MLs, a kick-ass CEO on her own, and DS will continue on to invent amd create new apps, and become a billionaire and JP will continue to be a successful VC and maybe even run Sandbox. But this is a love story, sadly, so most likely JP will be sent to a different country. or wherever. I am emotionally prepared already for that ending, I have no expectatiobs anymore after this episode.

    3
    1

This is one drama where I’m hoping for an open ending. Everyone successful, doing their own thing.

      2
      1

        This!
One of those scenarios where we see our characters still looking for happiness and success outside of our view. It’ll be bittersweet though.

        1

He’ll replace Director Yoon as Sandbox head and he’ll regularly eat/help at Grandma’s stall. 😁

So many WHOA moments on Start-Up today. So many resonating dialogues spoken today. So many tears shed for our characters today. So many realizations today. SO MANY.

I’m eagerly waiting for the recap to be released. We HAVE a lot to speak about the last two eps.

Start-Up you continue to amaze me. Thank you for such for such a well balanced episode. I still don’t know where you’re heading but wherever it is, I know it’ll be (heartbreakingly) beautiful!

I agree! Glad the revelation happened earlier and not on the last week.

Just the way it happened! I’m not one to buy teasers and I analysed the heck out of it, and I still didn’t see that coming. Hats off to the writers!

It is a beautifully written and well-acted episode indeed. I don’t think anyone could predict such ‘fate’.

    5

It was a good one. Heartbreaking but still with funny moments.

    3
    0

I don’t know who broke my heart the most, DoSan or JiPyeong.

But even so, I’m not totally happy with the show: DalMi seems to exist only to be the “girl” male leads fight for; InJae is just a plot device, and I’m still mad at halmoni because she hasn’t even tried to reach her…

It bothers me. I can’t fully enjoy the drama because of it.

    1
    1

I understand where you’re coming from. Truly.

I’ve worked in the television industry. It’s hard enough to produce a quality show when the situation ALL around is good. I’ve nitpicked too many dramas because it’s an occupational hazard. BUT with the way the world is at the moment, the pandemic making things so hard for people, (lives lost, careers destroyed, world upturned) these guys are still trying their bestest. No matter what route the show takes, or how I believe characters could have used better or the storyline more impactful, this is the blood, sweat and tears of a group of people doing what I could never do in this uncertain time. I am thankful for their hard work and utterly grateful for the ray of sunshine that is Start-up.

      1
      1

How was your time in the tv industry? Was it worth it? Or a waste of time in the end? Thanks!

        0
        1

It was exhausting to be honest. The schedules are so chaotic, late nights, early mornings, no weekends, 54 hour work days at a stretch. Can’t say it was a waste of time because I learnt to really push myself then.

          0
          3

Thanks for answering btw! I can only imagine. Was it fairly hard or daunting moving up on the television hierarchy? Good to hear that you at least got something out of it!

            0
            0

It wasn’t very hard to get a promotion. But you have to be willing to do menial jobs like stand outside a set and stop people from going in, to running coffee, dealing with cranky talent, hardass
cameramen, sulky editors. Oh and if you have a hellish PH, good luck.

            1
            0

It’s basically everything I heard, ah the menial work before moving on up lol. Thanks again for answering!

NJH is the reason I eagerly waited for Start-up. I’ve watched everything he’s in, incl variety appearances and movie (he looks beautiful in a ponytail and bangs).
So then why am I dreaming of dimples?

7
6

Cause dimples has more backstory. We know more about him and his feelings and struggles whereas Do San isnt explored as much

    4
    1

True. I don’t buy into the FL and SL with this show. Given my tragic SLS history, no other SL I’ve sobbed over has ever gotten this much importance in any show. There HAS to be a reason right?????

      0
      0

Because DoSan is poorly written in comparison to JiPyeong.
On any other drama we would all be rooting for the ML that is madly in love with FL and has no chance to win her because he’s a nerd and he can compete with the ideal FL has.
But in this drama most of us want SML to get the girl.
He won’t, according to dramaland laws.

    3
    2

This is just me spitballing but what IF the drama gods have decided to appease us by highlighting the SML on purpose. Giving him more of a backstory. Giving him more depth. Giving him every reason to win the girl this time. Giving him dimples!!!! (Sorry, dimples are my kryptonite) 😍

      0
      0

You’re so right about the writing. JiPyeong has the strongest storyline. We know nothing about DoSan other than the Olympiad, and the snippets from his parents about Living Buddha and his appeasing nature. And DalMi – gosh, for a FL, she is very two-dimensional. I feel bad for Suzy, because we’re 8 episodes in, and we hardly know her.

      3
      0

@Mad_Missile because dimples are better 😍

Hello.
I was looking for a forum where I could discuss all things KDrama (I haven’t managed to drag my people to the dark side yet, so I have no one to squee with.) SO happy to have found DB.
