Strangers from Hell feels less like a K-drama and more like a Korean thriller movie in its gritty and unflinching portrayal of violence. Hard to watch but vv compelling and having just binge-watched S2 Mindhunter – it seems like the perfect show to continue, esp given the policewoman’s sleuthing for serial killers based on patterns. If the show keeps this up, it’s going to be a great ride.

Also, spoiler for ep 2, look away, but LDW fits the psychopathic killer role so well XD

    After Trap, it’s the second drama from ocn’s cinematic projects. Hence the movie vibes 🙂

    Maybe it’s because I’m used to Korean thrillers, I don’t find it that violent, well physically speaking. I like that it’s focusing on the atmosphere and less on the graphic violent bloody scene (for now).

      Ahh! I find it very hard to watch Korean thrillers even though they’re so well made. I have to take multiple breaks. Something about them cuts to the core even if they’re not that gory.

      Yeahhh, the creepy atmosphere-setting has been 💯/💯

      Have you checked out the web-toon for this? Do you have plans to?

watched it raw before sleeping last night but that scene at the end where jun woo is hurt deeply that soo bin believed that message “more than him” and walks away – i crumbled inside. OSW’s acting SO well with moments like these. you could see the devastation written all over his face in just that one frame. </333333

    I have rewatched that scene soooo many times.
    Her hurt conviction when she shows him the text.
    The total defeat and hurt in his voice and eyes when he asks her if she believed it more than him (more than the crystal clear way he’s told her he likes her so many time + his supporting actions!!)
    O, Hwi Young, you have reaaaaally messed up, haven’t you!

      i think losing soo bin’s friendship or trust will be the thing that starts hwi young down a path of redemption. but then i wonder if soo bin will really disown him as a friend despite all he’s done because it looks like they share a deep bond because of their shared somewhat scarring upbringing.

      true! she realised the truth just by seeing the sincerity of his hurt. she has to deal with not just hurting jun woo but also that hwi young, whom she clearly trusts a lot, deliberately lied to her to mess w her. I like that they show in the preview that she tries to patch up with jun woo right after this scene

    i feel this x 100!! i think this is such a sad reflection on our experiences with k-dramas tbh. the writer is doing _such_ a good job with the characters so far, yet i don’t feel safe! i keep saying “please don’t eff this up writer-nim, please.” because we all know that can happen ;__;

    keeping my fingers crossed till the end!

    Yep. While I like the romance, this eps focused too much on that and as a result, the eps isn’t as fast-paced and exciting as the first 2 eps.

So I binge-watched ALL of the Put Your Head on My Shoulder episodes and by all I really mean all, annnd I just got a promoted tweet from Durex O_o

This is the first time I\’m seeing a promoted tweet from them in any of my social apps/profiles, and I usually pay attention to the ads cause I used to closely cover ad-tech.

Maybe this is me being paranoid, but this has me thinking the ad I was served was a part of the extended PPL. Head and Shoulders is a web drama after all. It would be pretty easy to match users who look up the drama on YouTube (which I did, using the Chinese title) or those who search for it on Google (which I also did).

      I find the PPLs in this show done tastefully. Some of them are really funny and do integrate into the story well.

      Maybe it is just the site I have been watching, the show now inserted 5-second ads with the cast which I actually prefer infinitely more than PPLs because they are just more honest in its intent.

        It was done tastefully, yes, I’m just a bit aghast at the reach of ads and the length to which they can be targeted (I shouldn’t be anymore given all that’s in the news, I know) but this was a new way of targeting I’d come across today.

        There was quite a bit of PPL in the drama though. I’m curious about this – were all the shots of him looking up stuff on Baidu (assumed it was Baidu from the logo) also PPL? But why would they need to advertise Baidu 😕

          😆 In today’s tech age, I will not be surprised if Baidu is already being considered as dinosaur, just like Google. Advertising in a youth web drama seems like an easy and smart way to spend money.

            That is quite interesting. The extended Wechat PPL was inevitable, I guess, considering it was a Tencent web drama. But I was actually surprised to see Baidu, especially cause I thought Tencent and Baidu were rivals haha

    In general I find these personalized ads intrusive and alarming, but here the fact that a Chinese youth drama actually secured a PPL from a condom maker makes me love this show even more!! 😆😆😆

        I certainly will pay closer attention next time when I am in China!!
        But it makes a lot of sense! Easily accessible, and practice safe sex while maintaining fresh breath. 😆

        Yep, it’s placed with the gum near the checkout in Singapore too. I think people still feel a bit self-conscious buying condoms, so they place it as near to the checkout as possible so you can grab it and pay with minimal embarrassment.

    do be honest i find the writing way better than some other rom-coms that i’ve seen and find it refreshing in some areas which is one of the reasons i luff it.

      the male lead thinking her fangirling is cute and really digging it is SO refreshing but he was such a jerk in the first couple of episodes but then suddenly changed so that’s a bit eh? and they just introduced a second FL and the whole mum trauma thing which, well, i’m waiting to see how it goes

      but despite his sudden change, what i like a lot is that he likes her for who she is, and they aren’t making him be a jerk to her for a long time until she “unlocks” something in him and gets him to start painting once again (which, i am assuming, will happen, but here he won’t like her just for what she did for him)

        yeh i agree on his sudden character change but i’m glad they made him less of a jerk then he was at the start but i feel like them going head to head in the first 2 episodes might have been what made him tone down his jerkiness and he also seems to apologise when he is in the wrong so i also dig that. i was also surprised that he took her whole fangirling thing really cooly i thought he was gonna use that against her or get mad that he went through so much misunderstanding because of her secret but it was adorable that he joined her fanclub for whatever reason and likes her for who she is.
