Beanie level: Errand boy

Who knew that the day will come when I’ll applaud Chinese censors:

This seems both good and bad to me. There are definitely dramas out there that should never have been as long as they are (The Legends a prime example) but then there are other dramas that I think worked perfectly well with the longer episodes (Like Story of Yanxi Palace at 70 episodes). When a drama is done well I like that they are longer running, but I can definitely see their reasoning. There are a lot of cdramas that I start losing interest in at about halfway or towards the end because of being dragged out unnecessarily. If they do reduce the episode count it will definitely require smarter writing.

I loved Yanxi Palace but if they would cut the episodes it wouldn’t hurt the show that much in my opinion, thye wanted to tell the story that went through decades but didn’t change the actors or even aged them through make up or special effects and it was confusing at the end, no way Xu Kai would pass as 50yrs old man 😉

I’m bitter that Victoria prepared whole “v-10th anniversary” video and thanked SM more than once but didn’t bother to mention f(x) or members, one would think she debuted as a solo artist.

I feel like editing of THE LEGENDS was done by bunch of drunk monkeys.

    Hahahahahahaa
Honestly, the OTP was the one and only thing that kept my attention in that drama

    2
    0

That’s a very good way to describe it lol. Which is disappointing as I was initially really enjoying it. But then the last like 20 ep. happened and pretty much ruined everything. And the last 2 ep. were the worst of all. Felt like a bunch of children edited the ending as it was horribly done and almost incomprehensible.

    1
    1

Yes, and saddest part, it’s not because they have to cover for a lack of material, so there isn’t any even slightly reasonable explanation for that, and the fact there are three differently edited versions of this drama floating around.

      1
      1

There are other versions? I just watched whatever is on viki.

        1

Yup, I encountered two personally, read about third and rumour has it, that there is fan edit on YouTube, where fans tried to made it more watchable.

Those two together are the best part of THE LEGENDS.

Re HUISANG’s fate or non-fate: this I learned from NIF2 and one of my young Buddhist students: There will always be yin/yang. Without both sides there’s no life. The potential for Huisang to lust for power is there for the future, but it isn’t WeiYing nor Lanzhan’s fate to deal with it. Their fate is to be together and stay true to themselves and their vow to help the weak – without the trappings and restraints of power. That was so beautiful.

L\’s plagiarized good by letter is the best kpop drama of this year, a lot of laugh and nobody got hurt.

and the most upvoted comment on Pannchoa?/ KpopKfans? is that
‘He is L azy!’ 😂😂😂 i had a good laugh.

    8

I read a comment on one site that points out that it’s a lot harder to research all those previous letters and then assemble which lines to copy than it is to just write the dang letter. L just created more work for himself, as is what often happens to us lazy people (speaking from experience).

As someone who stared blankly at the piece of white paper in front of me while my partner in class scribbled furiously at her essay, I can only empathise with L 😛

They are really crazy! I wonder when they will find out that even some parts of high political people are plagiarized or when they go that far that themselves they’re plagiarized.

Gosh, can’t they check speech awards too? I feel like the majority of them are the same. That reminds me of a meme of DiCaprio’s speech for the Oscar. A standard Korean speech that was perfectly understandable even if you don’t speak Korean was written on it 😂

I did. Oh boy, that finale is gonna be something else.

      1

@shach guessed it was Jang but I was looking at DCG.

I am disappointed because Han Suk Kyu is so good at playing this character who seems to be almost Jekyll and Hyde. Gosh, I love that part where he was in front of the two way mirror and ran his fingers through his hair.

        1
        3

DCG would have been too easy a guess though. If it was, I would have been upset as all get out. Dude is as gray as the clouds before a tornado, but I will never pegged him as an out and out murderer.

          1
          1

I, on the other hand, thought Jang as the murderer is just too ‘expected’. Not so much the story but this actor has been playing nothing but a villain, lol! But Han Suk Kyu can look even more menacing than him.

            1
            0

I guessed him because there was no one else who could fit description of police mafia boss from known characters, DCG lacks one thing, he is an outsider, he don’t have “his people” on the force, and that’s why I thought he was unlikely.

          1
          0

That part was really scary, that was that one moment I had my doubts about him, that was really great acting from him.

DS:60D: reading viewers comments on Melohwa, perfectly mirroring general reaction toward Pres. Park trying to pass Anti-Discrimination Act, just wow~

    Sad

I was happily surprised the Show went there.
And then increasingly frustrated when the Anti-Discrimination Act didn’t get passed, and instead, here we are, distracted by yet another urgent problem. poof! pushed under the rug after barely a mention.

Might I add that I was very annoyed by the rude attitude the Film Director gave President Park every time she met with him. I don’t care that she didn’t like him, his policies or whatever; he’s the Acting President and he deserves more respect than any of her body language gave him. hmph!

Book recommendation: This is one of those crazy stories that sounds like they come from the vault of makjang scriptwriter, but what make this book even more interesting is early history of Korean film industry from the perspective of woman at the centre, actress Choi EunHee. Author is a film producer so he pay special attention to everything movie related, so it’s a great read for movie buffs. And obviously titular story is as bonker as one may expect. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22537682-a-kim-jong-il-production

The chaebol antics in \”Doctor Detective\” are ridiculously unbelievable, I had hard time believing that few dozens of suits clad bodyguards resides in hospital to stop doctors from administering ER care or forcibly stop family members from visiting patient and not facing any legal consequence or/and huge public backlash, it’s way too over the top and eyeroll inducing, this show does not need this side plot at all.

I was sooooooo pissed when Joong eun got in the car with The Chairman and was working on him. What the hell was she thinking.

That is gonna come and bite her in the ass because those people will make life more of a hell for her. They don’t like her and this will not buy her any points with any of them.

    1
    1

I really despise the chaebol part of this show, and how many more misfortunes they plan to stack on her? They should rather stay true to the title.

      1
      1

It looks like it is a set up to why the divorced and it was not Tae young’s decision. Ummm…dude, you chose money over your marriage, you get so sympathy from me. He could have walked away anytime before it got that far.

        1
        1

Yeah, he is pretty useless, and now they’ll remove the evil father in law, but replace him with dense SIL who will turn into witch in law judging from previews, sigh, I didn’t sign for chaebol family drama when I started this show.

          1
          1

Ohhhhh…did you see her expression when they were doing the case presentations. The facade went away. That is when I knew she was never gonna be neutral or even nice. She is her father’s daughter and I want to know why she did not take over the family business like her dad wanted her to and went to medical school instead.

And you are so right, for someone with her education, she is quite dense.

            1
            0

I dropped it after the first episode and then went back to it only to drop it again last week because of the chaebol antics. The useless ex husband and his horrible family get way too much airtime and aren’t needed at all. I tried to fast forward, but the chaebol stuff bleeds over too much into the other parts of the show, and I gave up. I don’t understand why they didn’t just concentrate on telling the stories of real people who died in industrial accidents.

So with Minister Weasel being mere puppet who probably knows nothing about VIP real plans (which I bet means that he will die soon in spectacular manner), who is the VIP? I would love if he would be the tailor, and tailoring was just his cover and hobby on the side, hehe. DS:60 days ep.11

Have you seen any of the American series because the main plot is following that. There seems to be no curve balls in this series.

I guess those of us who haven’t watched the American original version are lucky then! lol

I wonder if discussion on Reply 1988 would so focused on \”husband hunting\” as it was during recapping, reading comment section make me feel like I was on different portal altogether.

I never cared about who the husband was, the show was a lot more about family and I loved watching the neighborhood grow up.. and I was glad I was not reading the recaps while watching it.

    6

I just finished the show and was curious about comments, as I’m used to expect really interesting discussion and views here on Dramabeans but only got arguments on who should be husband.

      1

I read the recaps but stopped reading the comments very early, for both 1994 and 1988. Those comments got very vicious very quickly. I think on Soompi they even had to shut down the forum for Reply 1994.

Yes, the comments were something else, it was strange because all that husband mystery plot make like 1% of actual story.
