Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

Question: I’m thinking of downgrading my Viki Pass Plus plan to the Pass Standard plan. What dramas would I still have access to? There’s a section on Viki Pass Standard with about 50 shows listed. Is that all I would have access to? Hoping that’s not the case, because most of those aren’t dramas I’m really interested in.

Many of the Big 3 (KBS/SBS/MBC) dramas and variety shows might not be available under Standard Plan.

I know Extraordinary You and the currently airing 2D1N are currently locked under Standard.

For sure, tvN and jtbx dramas are unlocked under Standard, so are the movies.

Anything that’s on/will be on Kocowa is what is blocked for standard. There’s more dramas you have access to than listed. Idk what that’s about. Their search function needs to be better.

That’s a little more reassuring. I can always give it a try and switch back if I need to.

Thought some of you might enjoy this. Randomly found this ASMR library scene for Extraordinary You. I find these nice for studying, reading, etc.

\”Kim So Hyun’s next role will be in the upcoming drama “Tale of Nok-Du,” which premieres September 30 and will be available on Viki with English subtitles.” (Soompi article)

Though some of you might enjoy this one. Sorry if it’s been posted already.

Quite beautiful editing and love the choice of song. It’s definitely more sad, so be warned.

hank you for sharing this beautiful compilation!!! What more can I say but just feeling completely engrossed and affected by this most epic love story. 😭😭😭😭

Watching this video I am struck again by how wonderful Xiao Zhan and Wang YiBo are interpreting these two characters.

Apparently Conan O’Brien did a scene with Jang Nara for a drama called “One More Happy Ending”. You can find the clip that aired in the drama on YouTube. Thought I’d share after seeing someone post some clips of his show.

Conan did a episode of Conan Without Borders and this was part of the episode. He also had Steven Yuen make a appearance and it was hilarious.

      2

I know. He did it while I was live watching this drama. That’s why it’s so random. 😂

I can’t remember who posted about Regulus by ONEWE on here but they performed it on M COUNTDOWN and the main singer did the high note (at 3:19 if anyone wants to just skip to the end). It was impressive, and I’m glad we got to hear it since it was kind of in the background in the released song.

And I was just, once again, reminded just how insanely good RBW’s vocalists are. Usually high notes are ignored in music shows (or the ones that I’ve seen have been) but nope, not here.

2

    Wow. That’s impressive!

I’m so happy these guys are getting more love. They’ve been around for longer than you might think, but haven’t really gotten the attention they deserve. I hope they have an N.Flying moment (reverse charting) or better yet, get a break out new song!

@raonah 이 밴드가 잘 하고 싶어. 저는 더 사람이 이밴드를 말하고 싶어. 화이팅!!!

I can’t form the complex sentences I want yet! I can barely form these simple sentences. 😭

      2
      3

How long have they been around for? Their debut only released a few months ago I think.

        1
        2

          4 years, there about.

ONEWE was originally known as MAS 0094 and debuted under Modern Music in August 2015. The band moved to RBW in June 2017 under the name MAS. The members officially re-debuted with the name ONEWE under RBW Entertainment in May 13, 2019.

          (Kprofiles.com)

Their older music is pretty good too. There isn’t much though, sadly.

I was wondering the same thing.

          0

You’re doing great! Were you trying to say ‘The band wants to do well’ in the first part? Or did you mean ‘I want the band to do well’?

        1
        2

The latter. I want the band to do well.

          1
          1

I think that ‘do well’ in English would translate better to ‘be popular’ in Korean in this case. It seems like 잘 하다 relates more to their efforts than to people’s reactions to them.
I think you could say something like this:
앞으로 이 밴드가 인기 더 많으면 좋겠다.

Which would literally translate to ‘It would be nice if the band is more popular in the future.’ but the (으)면 좋겠다 ending is also used to mean ‘I hope that…’

I\’m thinking of making this week premiere week, in which I watch a bunch of premieres of dramas. I really haven\’t been interested in continuing any of the 80+ dramas I\’ve started… somehow. And it’s fun to discuss currently airing dramas (though not all are below). Which ones do you recommend me start? I’m having trouble making up my mind. Here are the dramas I’ve been looking forward to watching:

– Boy for Rent
– Clean With Passion for Now
– Doctor John
– Go Go Squid
– Hotel del Luna
– The Last Empress
– Le Coup de Foudre
– One Spring Night
– Put Your Head on My Shoulder
– Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung
– Watcher
– Your House Helper

If there’s anything else I should really check out, please mention it!

New K-pop group: ONEUS. Literally love everything about the song and the vocals and the choreo. 🥰The rap-line sounds amazing (and rap usually isn’t my thing). Why must Spotify take forever to upload new releases!?

    This song is really good!

    2

Thanks for sharing! This is such a fantastic debut song. The vocals, rap, and choreo are really good. The group, with this concept, somewhat reminds me of SHINee (Lucifer era) and 2PM.

    1
    1

I’m totally digging this song, so I’ll definitely check those two groups out. I vaguely remember Lucifer, but I wasn’t much into K-pop then.

      1
      1

I’m a 2nd gen K-pop gal so those are the groups that I grew up with. 😅 2PM is one boy group that for me is unique as not a lot then were doing the manly and subdued sexy concept as well as they do.

SHINee is one group that I consider very inventive when it comes to songs and concepts. Their choreo is probably one of the most difficult in K-pop. Aside from Lucifer, you may also want to check out Everybody and Sherlock. (Though my personal favorite would be View.)

        1
        1

I remember getting into SHINee a bit when Fantastic Baby (Big Bang) came out and really liked Lucifer and Sherlock. I didn’t realize I’d actually gotten that much into K-pop then, haha. SHINee’s newest album is really great too, though quite a different sound.

Are there any other groups I should check out?

          1
          3

@rusnicam and @hades recently did a 2018 year-end K-pop list on their fan walls that you may want to check out. There were also a lot of very good suggestions from other beanies. As for me, the groups that I listen to currently are iKON, Red Velvet, EXO, BLACKPINK, and IZ*ONE. I mainly got into K-pop though because of SNSD/Girls Generation, 2NE1, and SuJu.

I like the play on words with balkhiri and valkyrie! It’s not a bad song at all really. Nice beat and I like the guitar.

On the other hand, I’m getting a little annoyed with all the autotune though. Then there’s that whole unnecessary matrix thing. It could be that they’re forced to play that game because that’s what sells. Don’t get me wrong, they did do badly really. It’s just that I want something new from a debut.

    1
    1

they didn’t do badly really* 😂

      1
      1

I personally really liked it because it seems different rom the couple other debuts I’ve seen since I’ve started to really follow K-pop. Most seem to be cute/fluffy concepts and this is more the kind of music I listen to. I don’t seem to notice much of autotune in songs (unless I’m watching a live performance) so it’s not a big deal for me. But of course if every song had it then it would quickly get irritating.

Then, I’m also really biased. They’re under RBW Entertainment which also manages Mamamoo and Vromance which are two of my favorite groups. So I’m expecting these guys to have a good handle on their vocals. And they seem to from the few performances I’ve seen!

        1
        1

RBW is Mamamoo’s label?! Cool! I had no clue about the label tbh. I thought they were new. 😅

Regarding the difference in style for a debut, I think they remind me of Stray Kids in that way. They had a harder image at the beginning and got much much softer a few months after that. It wouldn’t surprise me–but actually it kinda will–if a group like ATEEZ does the same thing.

Then you have groups like NCT which somehow strike a nice balance had hard and soft.

          1
          1

The group is new, but I think some of the members have done different shows (like Produce 101, MIXNINE, etc.). Not familiar with those, but there is a bit of a fanbase already.

I really like all of those groups you mentioned (and was obsessed with Stray Kids debut). Not as familiar with ATEEZ, but it looks like they’re having a comeback in a few days so we’ll see.
