Beanie level: Noble idiot

And another…

Episode 3 of On The Way to the Airport and I’m feeling trepidation about what’s going to happen.

It starts with one innocent encounter.

Episode 2 of On The Way to the Airport and I’m liking the vibe and OST so far.

Finished The Devil Judge (9/10)! What an explosive ending (literally)! Off to explore the OST a bit more while getting myself ready to start On The Way to the Airport and downloading On The Verge of Insanity because a lot of Beanies are raving about it!

P.S. Oh, and testing out HTML codes on my post for the first time to improve the look. Hehe.

I’m so glad you enjoyed Devil Judge! The ending was truly explosive! I also just added On The Verge of Insanity to my watchlist after seeing so many beanies talking about it in the “Best Dramas of 2021” post 😄

I was nervous about not enjoying it because a lot of Beanies talked about dropping it partway, but I enjoyed the escalating twists and the ultimate turn of story. Mind-blown!

Right! That post is a bad influence on my watchlist right now.

I had issues with certain parts of it, including the ending, but overall, I really enjoyed it and thought the acting was great. One of my favorite Ji Sung performances, actually, and Kim Min-jung is so good at playing a baddie.

Yes, Ji Sung and Kim Min Jung gave great performances! Kim Min Jung’s character reminded me of her loan shark character in My Fellow Citizens but actually scary.

Absolutely! I loved Ji Sung in Kill Me, Heal Me and he was also great here! Apart from Mr. Sunshine, this was my first time really seeing Kim Min-jung and she played her role to a T!

I wasn’t on DB much for the past year or two so that didn’t influence me 😄 I was going to watch it to the end for Jinyoung if nothing else but I ended up really enjoying it (and totally falling for Ji Sung too 😍😍😍)

One of the best female villian I’ve come across!

She was the best part of the drama, but I hated drama ruined her character by making her “in love” and sacrificing herself. She would never have done it. She should have been the one having her way.

In kdramaland (and sometimes real life), it’s really all about love, isn’t it? Lol. It’s like you can’t be your own person.

Wooohooo! I’ve been promoted to Noble Idiot.

Hmm, not sure if I should be happy about that. 🤔

Just when I couldn’t think it would get better, SHALL WE HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE exceeded expectations with another heart-warming episode.

This hit super close to home because when the pandemic started, I lived alone, away from my parents and we would only see each other once or twice a month. For a very conservative Asian family, this was unusual.

I went home to them after a month of lockdown and it made me appreciate both several times more. My mom especially because she’s always been my travel, food, and shopping buddy.

This episode of mother-daughter love was so relatable and the way the daughter’s personality was interpreted through her choice of beans was just so creative!

Of course, our two main leads just keep getting better and better! So much understanding and growth between them.

Plus, it’s Kim Mi-kyung! She always makes me cry with her mother roles.

I’m glad you are enjoying because it’s a delightful drama and it only gets better with every episode.

Dreamily watching two gorgeous guys on screen. I hope they can keep my interest long enough to last 16 episodes.

P.S. Can’t screenshot on Netflix so sorry for the terrible shot. 😅

Is this any good? I wanna watch for Joonie but I don’t care for Lee Jin Wook.

This is not going to appeal for everyone. It’s a legal drama in a dystopian Korea so that in itself needs a bit of mind shift and preparation. Lol. There are a lot of politics and while I normally don’t care for those (they can be over-the-top sometimes), I’m somehow enjoying the show so far (7 episodes in).

I can’t watch HAPPINESS so getting my Park Hyung-sik fix in TWO LIGHTS: RELUMINO (2018). Han Ji-min is a plus point, too!

Thanks @theintrovertbean for mentioning this short film. I am a PHS fan and loved his performance in HAPPINESS. The good news is that this film is available subbed on YouTube. Thanks for the tip. I will definitely watch. I have to also check out his film JUROR 8 (2019) which is available on Viki US.

I will also check out JUROR 8!

    this drama was very underrated

    1

For real! It’s barely talked about!

      1
      1

It’s because of the theme. Having affairs in the plot is very controversial here unless the cheaters are villains.

        1
        0

This show is super duper underrated! I was really immersed in the whole world of this show. The lighting was cinematic and well shot. Great to see Lee Sang Yeob and Park Ha Sun in more shows after this. God, the OST (I still listen to it time to time) is memorable. Ye Ji Won was also amazing here.

    1
    1

I agree. I’m normally not a fan of slow-paced dramas but this got me hooked every second. I listen to the OST repeatedly!

      1
      1

No lie, watching it late actually helped me get more immersed in the show. I’m actually glad that I did because I really got sucked into the world. I don’t see many people talk about this show, but its nice to see a fellow fan on here! Also, Park Ha Sun/Lee Sang Yeob’s chemistry together was magical. I do notice LSY’s role was kinda off his own world, he seldom talked and hid his pain.

        1
        1

So true. My eyes were glued to the screen almost the whole time despite the pacing just because I was feeling every single emotion the leads felt. You know it’s wrong but you still can’t help but root for them. Not knowing how the ending would go tore me up too.

I agree, we never really got much of an insight into LSY’s story other than him “marrying” because he pitied his wife? That was such a weird excuse.

          1
          1

Yeah, the script was solid. Only quibble is Ep 15/16 felt a bit too past montages filled. I wanted a bit more from our main couple. At the time, this show was the highest rated Channel A show. Also, a hug at the end would’ve been nice lol but I digress.

Your right, I really rooted for them b/c they felt like soulmates to me. You knew it was wrong, and yet you couldn’t help but root for them to get out of their ‘prison.’ LSY’s role was described as Peter Pan in the show’s description. I could see that, he sorta took things in and felt a bit naive at times. His wife was something else too, she really did everything to trap him. Also the FL’s husband was very good, he’s usually plays comedic roles so it was like oh huh? Also the second lead couple was nice too, but there ending kinda was a bit abrupt.

    I guess there’s a limit to replies. 😀 @soulsearch12

I agree – the ending could have been better. I was panicking internally because there were only 9 minutes left and FL was still alone in the house and all I could think was, are we going to get a scene where they just look at each other? And voila, there it was.

Sad that everyone got a super happy ending (although I’m not entirely happy about it) and we only get a glimpse of the beginning of a possibly-happy ending for our leads. Sigh. Back to the poignant OST for me while I revisit the turmoil of emotions this show has given me.

    1
    1

No worries! I do this when I can no longer can reply.

Same here. I kept looking at the time left, and was like how come she’s on the bus now. I want these two to meet and hug. I’m glad we got a happy ending for both of them, the symbolic symbol of the cage opening lol. I do wish they hugged, but that might have pushed it a bit. I do love that the FL broke out of her prison and was free.

Yeah the wife and husband characters, but I guess there had to be some closure for them. Lol that the ex wife married an American. I really love the look/feel of the show, it feels real. The OST is so good, I also like Taboo lol. I’m glad to have found someone who also enjoyed the show!

      1
      1

I agree with the hug part, I was desperately begging in my mind for them to start moving towards each other while resigning myself that that was the end.

Oh my gosh, yes! I love “Taboo” – the first song I Shazamed in the show. “Love Theme” is nice too, very beautiful but sad. And “Melon Ice.” Oh, who am I kidding? I love the whole OST.

Lee Sangyeob! He was brilliant in On the Verge of Insanity. I looked for his previous dramas, and turns out he worked on a bunch of stuff. He was a main character in Once Again! The cast there is no joke, but at 100 episodes, it’s not going to happen for me: I don’t even have enough attention span to go beyond 20 episodes 😣
I was also drawn to LAitA, but it isn’t available in my region… I guess I’ll have to check out Good Casting or While you were Sleeping for more LYS

      Whooooaaaa, 100 episodes. I can’t either. 😀

Oh no, you have got to find LAitA. I’m riveted.

GOOD CASTING looks interesting, too. I might have to check that next.

Ahh! Savored another wonderful episode that hit close to home. I know the feeling of being a waiter having worked in the events management industry for almost a decade.

Also, the level of insight in conversations they have are just so relatable.

Bonus for aesthetics! Go-bi and the cafe owner wearing orange for an episode where they tried out orange cappuccino and orange madeleines. 🍊

P.S. Had a mug of hot black coffee after watching this episode. ☕️

I can’t drink coffee in the evenings so I sat down with a cup of tea every night to watch an episode. The conversations are very insightful without being preachy. I’m glad you’re enjoying it! 🙂

I’m literally doing one episode a day of SHALL WE HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE? because each 20-minuter is just the best way to end work.

I wish there was a coffee vending machine 100 meters away from the house. Lol.

Can this show not end? 🥺

Thanks for the reminder of this show! I got busy near its end and moved it to my “older show–marathon” folder and it got buried because there are so darn many dramas in there. 😳

Only a few more eps to watch for me, and it’s been a nice show so far. It’s like a lighter version of the one show about the late night eatery I can’t think of the name of right now which I also liked.

Ditto on the so many (too many?) dramas. I hope you can get back to it!

The closest I can think of is MYSTIC POP UP BAR, which I totally loved, too.

I found the name, Late Night Restaurant. It was the Kdrama variant of a Jdrama series called Midnight Diner.
