I finished rewatching The Untamed earlier this week. There are lots of heartbreaking scenes in it but it surprised me which one hit me the most on my 2nd rewatch:
Jiang Cheng is struggling so hard with the enormity of the sacrifice Wei Wuxian gave to him. His guilt, shame, gratitude and love toward Wei Wuxian comes lashing out in the form of anger. But WWX knows his brother deeply and knows under the hurt and anger is a deep lake of love. The brothers had both wounded each other deeply, either intentionally or not, but in the end they both sacrificed for each other. WWX in giving up his golden core to JC and JC giving up what he thought would be his life for WWX. And I think both would make the same decision again. The world pulled them apart but love, forgiveness and their brotherly bond brought them back together again.
Well said, well said!
Sometimes I feel that I am too harsh to JC but I forget that he did really genuinely love WWX even though there were a lot of misunderstandings between them, I am glad that WN was able take some of those away.
The resolution to their 16 years long misunderstanding was everything I want and more. It was cathartic, satisfying, and bittersweet. And yes, I believe they’ll find their way to each other’s lives again someday.
Yea, see, the thing is, is that Iโve not even reached this point in the dramaโIโm still only on my first watch, snail 🐌 styleโ but I read about a Beanieโs post about this particular significant scene somewhere before (canโt remember which Beanie, Iโm so, so sorry!!!) and I was already 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 after I read that post, and now that Iโm reading your post here about this scene again, now Iโm just a total wreck 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This is why I cannot dislike JC no matter how much of an asshole he is to reincarnated WWX. The fact that he never even mentioned to anyone the sacrifice he did for WWX speaks volume as to what kind of a person he is and how much he genuinely loves and treats WWX as his brother.
So beautifully said, @trinpie. Their relationship for me is summed up with that sword stab JC gave to WWX -JC had to do it to somehow to feel like he is doing the right thing, but he could only honestly half-heartedly stab WWX in a place that would not cause a fatal wound. And WWX took it all in understanding JC’s ambivalence. Their relationship is heartbreaking and human.
