Ep16 of MM! So, this is what satisfaction feels like!

Merry Christmas!
Starting to watch the finale ep 16 of Matchmakers…

13
9

NO!! Don’t leave me like that!! I cannot wait till next Monday!!

MM Ep 15 was fun. But the cliff hanger and the preview!! 😱

6
4

I just came here to see if you’ve watched ep 15 yet. How do we wait for one whole week now 😩 But ep 15 was so fun. I wish we didn’t get the preview we got, kind of dimmed the fun a little for me. Though I still have hope.

    2
    1

I do too… Kinda hoping they will say both are dead, but revive them and send them off somewhere? But what about GunSoek? I want him to be with them!!
But what most gives me hope is, “ok you sinned now die” will take all of 10 mins running time and they have a 60 min episode, so…

      2
      1

I didn’t get into this for a Romeo & Juliet revival! *repeatedly drums flat hand on the table in full objection*

LOL! But FWIW, I think the preview is just a big fat red herring. Not like we need that suspense. Who *wouldn’t* watch episode 16 after this? 🫣🤞

        🦆🦆

        2
        1

Romeo and Juliet is exactly what I thought, @sonai!!
I know, I think they are just being cheap, bruising our loving hearts like that with that preview.

          3

Oh drama gods! Why would you do this to me??!!
MM ep14: Mme Park: Up until half the episode, she still has layers. I was in awe at the writing that kept us guessing – is she over confidently evil or did she just do a solid assist to our ML?
But that borderline deranged evil half-laugh towards the end, looks like the writing finally decided to push her to mad scientist territory.
Here is me, hoping against hope, that this is also a clever subterfuge by the writer and not just them running out of ideas.
#SaveMmeParkFromPlotConvenience

No one is able to guess what Lady Park is up to, that’s the brilliance of the writing. I.cannot.wait!

Also that ending, I need to know how they arrived at this point.

    2
    1

True. But I will be SO mad if they just go “Got you! She was pure evil, after all! Hahahahaha!”
      Oh well…
As to the ending – first time I am glad the episodes pairs were broken, cause we will see what’s up tomorrow.

      1
      1

Oh I thought the same. I am so glad we don’t have to wait a week to know what happened there.

Yes, really hope they keep Lady Park’s layers and don’t make her pure evil. Let’s wait and watch

        1
        0

I actually took that to mean she had finally gone too far and was starting to crack. The pressure and emotional toll of finding out the truth about how her son died and then killing her husband and brother and blaming everything on her son was just too much for her, and now she’s greedily trying to reclaim what she once had in the only way she knows how. I thought it was a really interesting shift!

    3
    1

I love her layers. I appreciate the cutthroat world she lives in. But at the end of the day she plotted and committed murders. That has to have pushed her over the edge.

    2
    1

True, but I was looking for some remorse. Why cannot they write a remorseful villain? She has brains, she has loyalty to her family, and love for her son, so by extension – she should have some empathy, no? And consequently remorse? Why make a layered character and then for plot convenience, not follow the logical path of the layers? Oh well…

      1
      1

Huh, I hadn’t looked at it that way, but I agree with you. Villains are usually only remorseful when they’re caught. And sometimes not even then. We may yet see some remorse from her though. On the bright side, this writer has an amazing career ahead of her, so hopefully she adds the remorseful layer to her next villain 😉

I have seen some amazing relationships potrayed in the KDrama world, this is one of my most favorite so far…

    These two!

    6
    0

Looking forward to tomorrow – looks like my big-brain-trust wish is coming true, though not for the reasons I expected… There seems to be resistance from Madame Park to SD moving past her son. Natural, plus also could prove dangerous to SD, given those times. But hope for good things further down.

    5
    1

These were some damn fine scenes. I felt them so much. Brava. Re resistance. I wouldn’t expect any less from Madam Park. And I also hope is she will eventually turn around. That the pairing of these episodes has been thrown off is a major bummer.

      4
      1

The preview shows their drift widening! Please, show, no no no! At least, if you must drive these two ladies apart, bring them back together again, please!

        2
        1

I just saw! I don’t like it for our OTP. But I think it’s a good way for the writer to ratchet up the tension. However, fingers crossed it gets resolved by the end. I predict a tragic but noble ending for Madam Park.

          2
          1

Which would be fair, but sad. Fingers crossed that the drama keeps up the good work in the home stretch!

SG Gang Nam-Soon continues light and sweet… Fav moment of the week:

    GET A GRIP, Kang Hee-sik!! 🤣

LOL. It’s still early days, but I sense I could be on team beer dancer. 😂

      2
      1

TEAM BEER DANCER BWAHAHAHAHAHA love it!!!

        2
        2

😂 Definitely prefer this over team cotton swab (I cannot). Though I wonder what would be the healthier choice… 🍻🕺

          4
          4

Yeah, I’m SUPER surprised that the villain hasn’t caught my attention and dragged me down with it.

It’s because I don’t really know anything about him yet, besides “he’s bad.” I mean that’s fine if the writers want to keep him there.

            3
            0

@attiton Yes, there’s a very slow introduction to his character… He didn’t get many lines yet, but the preview promises big things for him in the next episode.
Still, I cannot be swayed (she said, naively). The OTP is just too cuuuuuute…!

            4
            0

🍻 for sure! You can burn off the calories by dancing. Also, I can’t imagine how Nam-soon could possibly fall for a villain. Feel sorry for him after learning his tragic backstory? Maybe. But I’m not seeing or wishing for a love triangle here 🤞

            4
            0

@marysadanaga I cannot argue with that logic, beer dancing is good for your health – CHEERS! 🍻😂

Naaaw, I agree, Nam-soon is way too – what was it? – *benevolent* to fall for the villain. 😉

            3
            0

Thanks for the dignified option for the team name and no reference to neon stuff, @sonai. Team BD, go!

          2
          1

It’s not like I hadn’t typed the other option out. It looked wrong. 🤣 I’ll dance with my beer any day though, if needs must!

            3
            0

I think we’ve got two leads who have never dated or fallen in love before … and they are sooo stinkin’ adorable.

    5
    1

Are you loving it too, @marysadanaga? I was ambivalent last week, but today I was just so SMITTEN with these two.

      3
      2

OMG same! I was iffy about the first episode — some of the comedy didn’t land for me — but I am absolutely shipping these two 😍. They are just so *nice* to each other without pretense, and that’s kind of revolutionary in drama world. I hope to continue squee-ing as they take more baby steps toward each other.

        6
        1

I’m not watching the drama but they seem like a really adorable couple.

This is the only scene SY appeared. Rest was all some imposter.

I called it. The dreadful algebra of necessity. Tropey, but nicely done, show. And somebody give Rowoon McDreamy an award for the best in-mortal-pain acting!

    2
    1

Do you mean why he had to do it? That was, um, an interesting choice.

And yes to Rowoon! And Jo Boah is much better in past life than in present where she continues to…oof, let’s wait for everyone else.

Awww… thanks. But this show is surprising, some things like this are well done, and sometimes it is totally lazy… But well, I like it!

            1
            0

This deep in comments, well I would like to rant – why did they HAVE to bring Ha Joon Gardner dude int to the past life and make H-J villainish? I mean what point does it serve??
Cause, I am guessing we are done with the past life, no?

        4
        2

          Ha Joon AND Gardner dude

          1
          1

I *think* we’re done. But with this show…

And I agree. If they were going to drop in a villainous HJ, make his role *meaningful*

            2
            0

Hmmm, garden creepster’s shamanic actions were explained by his past version as a, uh, evil shaman. I was wondering why he was able to curse Shinyu & Hongjo using that straw doll… Also his obsession with Hongjo: they have met in the past, and it seems like he might possibly not have been able to do any “magic” without using Aengcho’s “book of curses” after all? So, Aengcho is the real powerful shaman here, while he is just a wannabe. Maybe that drove his bloodthirst. *yuck*

I have no explanation for past Jaekyung though. Maybe that was just intended as a real shocker. 😐 Which – I am shattered! He looked *good* though, I’ll give him that… Dubiously feeling like while past Jaekyung took the bribe (reward), the present one will not.

          2
          1

Oh, I wouldn’t say it was a “bribe” in the past – she is supposed to be an EVIL shaman who harmed a child, so it is morally justified, forget that she was forced. Cold-blooded and righteous, with an eye to the main chance, yes. Which is sorta like present-day-before-ep-7 JK .
So possibly, the point of showing him in the past may be to make us believe he is mercenary, so that we are pleasantly surprised when he joins forces with SY and brings down mayor and construction dude.
Or this could be my wishful thinking.

DWY Ep 13…
That\’s it! I am NOT live watching a show again!! I cannot wait till tomorrow, though I know from the JTBC drama youtube channel that things are not as bad as they seem!! I just want to keep watching this bunch of people!!
Each of these characters deserve to have their own stories, like an anthology. I need full arcs for NaYeon, JaeKyoung, Mommy, Wookie, GiDong, Ma and Gong… Even the harpies, maybe they calm down? Daddy also has sparks of good feeling, he told SY he does not care about the business, just take care of the relationship. They should make like 2 seasons, just exploring these stories, instead of focusing too tightly on the OTP romance, though I want more of that too.
But this is like an OBSESSION, waiting constantly for Wednesdays and Thursdays. Your truly shall stick henceforth to binging after the final recap goes up in DB.

Semma…I’m going to be honest with you about something you already suspect.

They’re going to try and make this feeling worse not better today.

I find there are two options that help me—they may not help you.

Option #1: You’ll find that when it comes time to start today’s episodes, you won’t really want to…so, don’t. Wait until next Wednesday to watch episodes 14-15.

Option #2: They’ll resolve at least one of the open-ended issues at about minute 20 today (don’t know which—probably whether or not Shin-yu is dead). STOP at that point and accept that at least one thing is going better. Then, pick up next Wednesday and watch the end of episode 14 before being able to go straight into 15.

Let me call some other Beanies over for their advice on this as well…I’d be interested in what they’d have to say too!

    @hopefulromantic @indyfan @lapislazulii @sonai @fancypants

    3
    5

Oh, you know who else I know has experience with this… @darkcc

Cecee, I remember you doing a pause like this with HeartBeat, was it? Do you have advice from an expert on how to cope (by pausing) with a tense final four episodes of a live-watch?

      PS: How are you, Cecee?!!

      2
      1

@attiton! I’m good and catching up with everything!

Watching live is tricky because… well because the long, long, LONG week in between each episode. Who wants to wait a week to find out what happens? Yer, not me. I’ve got no patience.

Waiting until the end of a show before binge-watching it takes a similar amount of patience. Can there be anything more frustrating than starting a show full of excitement and mentioning it to someone who’s already 12 episodes ahead of you and who breaks all your hopes of a happy ending? However much one loves binge-watching, it’s tough to watch 16, 18 or 20 episodes in one night (I don’t know how long your nights are, but mine aren’t 20 hours long, to my greatest sorrow).

So, I tend to go the middle way.
I start watching shows a few weeks after everyone else. I usually watch 2 or 3 different shows throughout the week, so I can get 2 to 3 episodes in an evening (on good weeks). It’s the perfect mix of binge-watching and somehow still watching live because I’m not too stupidly late to comment on relevant recaps. This also gives me a long enough break to come up with my own theories and discuss things with Beanies. I usually still come across the latest scenes on social media, so I’m up-to-date enough to react to live comments.

Then, there are some (un)fortunate circumstances, such as Heartbeat where someone mentioned the tension was increasing in the last few episodes (way before the final episode). I was almost live watching it (with a few days delay) so I thought I’d pause until he tension is resolved… And since then, I’ve read the finale (I have no self-control) and I’m sort of happy that I paused before things took a turn for the … I don’t know what to call it, is it a turn for the most unexpected? I wouldn’t say the worse, but anyway, I don’t know what the hell that was. Yet, for me, reading the live reactions of other Beanies to something I hadn’t watched made it easier. I knew what was coming (mind you, I still haven’t finished watching that one… )

        3
        2

I did this with the Uncanny Counter 2 – started, stopped in the middle and then caught up towards the last few eps. But then, I was not so invested in part 2 of UCC as I was in part 1. Depends on the show and how much it pulls you in, I guess. DWY, I am literally fathoms deep.

          2
          1

I have no managed to watch past ep 2 of Uncanny Counter 2. I tried so hard to like it, and I failed miserably.

            1
            0

@isagc Just watched HeartBeat knowing how it ended. Isa might have some thoughts for you, @darkcc, on whether or not it’s worth it to finish at this point!!

          2
          1

The last episodes are worse than the rest of the drama, and I’m not thinking of “you know what”, but they were worse in script and pace too. Too many tropes and filler content. I only wanted to watch our main couple together (and better without other characters around), but… the show took other way.
I don’t regret having watched it, though.

            2
            0

I concur with the above!! Especially with option 1 – I’ve done that many times in the final stretch of a live watch when it feels like I can’t take the angst/tension/trepidation, so I just end up saving the last two weeks to watch together.

I sometimes also just have an eye on comments/reactions here and on Reddit to get a gauge of what we’re headed for in the finale, which works for me because I don’t really mind spoilers and sometimes knowing a little about what’ll happen helps me watch more peacefully (or not watch if it’s an ending that sounds like something I’ll hate). If you’re in the ‘spoilers don’t phase me too much’ camp then this is something you can do too maybe! If you’re keen to know the tone without all the details though, I find Reddit to be better for that since spoilers have to be/usually are always redacted in comments, so you can still get a good idea of the emotions the episodes are eliciting without seeing the actual plot points and being spoiled.

      4
      2

I would that it were just the tension of the story, @attiton!
I honestly am not too fussed about that. But I keep wanting more… With bingeing, I can go on till the end and know there is no more… Technically should be the same, but somehow it isn’t. Sigh….

      2
      1

So, then a variation on option 1 would be better?? Your job today and tomorrow will simply be to get over the initial emotions…they’ll fade soon enough, and then you pick up on THURSDAY, being able to watch 14-16 in one glorious sitting!!! 😉

        1
        1

But yea, one thing makes it all better, this discussion board!!++

      4
      1

Oh it so does!!! Live watching isn’t the same without it. That’s why I wouldn’t be able to wait until the final episodes drop before watching – *so much more fun* with the ongoing posts here 👏

        1
        0

I don’t see a problem. Obsess away! Watch the episode as soon as it drops. Discuss endlessly on DramaBeans—and all the other sites if that’s not enough. Capture screenshots. Make glorious gifs, funny memes. And as you long for the next episode, just think you’re channeling Shin-yu. Still, if it isn’t enough, write your own fan fiction. I guarantee you it’ll be better than this script.

Don’t hold back, DIVE into Fandom.
