Special appreciation for Kim so-hyun being one of the youngest to be nominated for Best Actress. She has always been great but her performance in the drama has been her most mature acting till date.
Here it is!!! Liked this scene so much😍 Tried to screencap it to make a gif, but Viki is blocking my recorder 😭
Can I steal this? Just to have it as a happy pill for when I’m having a stressful day
I’ve found all these on google and I think they’re for free use as long as we don’t crop the water marks. Feel free to save they really do cheer you right up.
Their chemistry is effortless and thoroughly enjoyable. I’m hoping there’s a lot more cute scenes with them in the future episodes because they brighten up the drama whenever they’re together.
Edit: I think the third link is for a Silla pair as well.
Anyway, this was a great observation @peridot! I hadn’t noticed it before, and your comment sent me on a web search for Three Kingdoms earrings. 😀
I’m assuming we don’t see many earrings during Joseon because of Confucianism? Surgery wasn’t allowed, so I imagine body piercing was similarly forbidden. We do see it in Goryeo times.
Yes, I have a feeling Confucianism played a major part in that.
I guess my passion for piercings drew my attention to her ears. I’ve always noticed the lack of earring in dramas set during the Joseon era. I have seen dramas set in earlier periods, but I really only just thought about this difference now.
And now in modern-day South Korea, there are so many fun pieces of jewelry that people wear in their ears. It’s amazing how much things have changed–but this can be said about many countries in the modern era.
I only noticed the differences in the hanbok and headpieces but strangely jewelry never caught my eye. Though now I feel I’ll be looking out for it actively. It’s interesting to see the differences between the different time periods.
I guess I just accepted the lack of earrings in Joseon-set dramas. But @wishfultoki‘s comment about the possible role of Confucianism makes sense. We’ll all have to continue this conversation after this drama premieres. I’m sure they’ll be plenty of interesting historical input from other Beanies.
Indeed, I hope we continue this very interesting conversation!
I know for sure that wearing one earring was still a thing in the dwindling days of Goryeo, before Joseon adopted Confucianism. For example, we have Bang Won (Jang Hyuk) in the early episodes of MY COUNTRY: https://i.pinimg.com/474x/e3/d4/74/e3d47416eb6f3ed48465dbf4cea5f6e8.jpg Noticeably he stopped wearing earrings later when he became a contender for the throne.
You’re absolutely right. Even then I had to keep reminding me that it was the same actress playing the two characters. She’s always been great but somehow she manages to surprise me every time. Me too despite my concerns with the writer I’m looking forward to the drama but trying not to expect much.
True but I especially loved her in Love Alarm. I felt a new maturity in her acting with this role and she carried it over to her Tale of Nokdu role too.
