Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

Don’t know if it made any sense but idol: the coup is soooo bad that it’s good lmao

I’m watching just because kwak si yang in suit (hot) and the obvious enemy to lover cliche between him and jenna (lol)

Idk how to deal with this fact like, it means that it’s gonna be very angsty if it stay true to the fact, but i don’t know if i’ll be happy if it isn’t historically accurate

I think it might end with her Funeral myself.
I think the show might be setting up for it, but a) I don’t know if they have time and b) I don’t know if they’ll deliver.
If it were me anyway, I would end with that as it would Parallel the First Episode.

    8
    3

Oh my god…. Mind blown. That made the most sense and if that’s how it end the funeral at the beginning made so much sense. Gah….. I honestly don’t know if it will be as satisfying because the Ruler of the Mask shadow that haunts it, i know there’s no other possibility other than it will hurt me but if it hurt me I hope it hurts me good 😭😭😭😭

      1
      1

The funeral was a foreboding for the end of DI but I have high hopes for this show (i know i shouldn’t have at only 6 episodes) that it will turn it into “it hurts so good”. Seven Day Queen did that very well.

        2
        1

Knowing Seven Day Queen would ultimately end in despair was the reason I held myself from being so invested in it- idk why I didn’t keep myself this time-

          2
          1

Knowing Seven Day Queen is sad is what has kept me from watching it all these years somehow! Despite always meaning to and good reviews! Haha
And yet I also like a well done tragedy so… *shrugs*

The source material here is ripe for a good juicy, heart wrenching tragedy, so if it can deliver… ah we’ll just keep taking it one episode at a time, like @kiara haha.

            1
            0

A return to the funeral makes sense. Sigh.

      3
      1

There would be like at least, three if not more paralells to the first episode to end that way so yeah.
History is a bitch. We can just hope it does a good job of the tragedy.

The old king told her it could be her one day.

          3
          2

            Yeahp that’s (1).
2- San and Deok Mi met on the road to pay their respects to the dead.
3- Deok Mi told San she wanted to be a L5 court lady one day.
4- The Head court lady told her the only way to die in the palace was to be a consort, imposing her own ambitions on a child.
5- The King entering the mourning house, even though it was forbidden, and mourning his love.
6- the Funeral procession specifically of court ladies, paying their respects to a court lady.
            what else
            Oh I guess yeah
7- San and Deok Mi being separated there, and not meeting again for years.
            Hnggg so many.

            2
            0

To a court lady, it’s an honor to die inside the palace.
This show has done a great job at telling this story from their point of view.

I’m with you on this one. San reading her epitaph and we all crying rivers.

One of the reasons why I’m hesitant watching sageuks but if it’s done well then why not, bring the pain on!

    1
    0

As sad as it will be I want this to be portrayed in the drama. It’d be a beautiful closure to their story and imo what makes it much more romantic is that Yi San was truly in love with her in the history books.

    3

With sageuk like The Red sleeve, i just know there’s no way it aint gonna make me go through a lot of pain, and Junho and Lee Seyoung’s s̶e̶x̶u̶a̶l̶ ̶t̶e̶n̶s̶i̶o̶n̶ chemistry made it 10x worse

Idol : The Coup is the kind of ridiculous I’m enjoying maybe too much and the only problem I have is this idol dude having less expression than a damn rock

2
3

I don’t understand how they could choose him with the number of male idols they have in Korea… He’s young and he can’t hide it.

    2
    1

Even that one member who’s always with him is more expressive slkdfjlksdjf I’d probably understand the decision if his character isn’t in so many scene and do so many plot driving stuff but he is. As effed up as the CEO and Jenna’s interactions are I enjoyed theirs so much more lmao

      2

the only reason why I’m for jenna + CEO ngl
he is too green to be a 2nd lead (is he the main lead??)

I don\’t know if it\’s Hani being one of my favorite idol like ever or it\’s the underdog theme or it\’s just me being so overly emotional, but I seriously just effin teared up for somehthing like Idol

I haven’t watched Hani in anything else, but her conversations with every member of the group is just so sad I CANNOT

Kim Hyejoo is SOOOOOOO good in Inpector Koo oh my god. When I watched Killing Eve I couldn\’t really grasp Villanelle\’s obsession of Eve, but now they tweak it in a kdrama way…. I love it lmao

Just realized that my newly potential favorite drama which seems convincing (read: The Red Sleeve) is actually written by traumatizing drama writer (Ruler of the Mask) I feel scaredt……………..

6
6

The main reason I decided to wait for the drama to finish airing before watching it. The opening eps is temptingly good, but I need a reassurance that it will stay good till the very end.

    1
    1

If I knew it beforehand i would’ve done the same T_T Ruler was good too until they actually get into the main plot (Yoo Seungho going AWOL and became hot commoner with great hair). Oh my god Junho and Lee Seyoung are so good right nowt T_T

      1

me too. I watched the first ep, like it and search for its asian wiki and regretted. now I wonder should I kiv this drama or proceed and take my chances….

We all know that. It will hurt. How much, it will depend on when it ends.

Wow Red Sleeve hooked me right from te first episode even when it\’s mainly the child counterpart! There\’s just something very endearing in a well-made sageuk and I couldn\’t find out why

11
1

I’ve been whining about how unconvincing both Red Sky and King’s Affection’s child actors were for the love story (King’s Affection actress was VERY good but in the sense of playing as twins but with the lovr story, i couldn’t felt a thing) but the red sleeve happened and THAT what I was hoping for if any drama bother to spend their time on childhood portion.

*ps. The boy played twin characters on You Are My Spring so it was unsurprising that he’s good

Finally had the time to cram in 1st episode of Inspector Koo and the rest of other flaws in that premiere episode is forgiven for that ending alone, that\’s brilliant 👏👏👏

2
4

Ps. I know lots of dramas tends to finally show their overall feel, atmosphere, pace, and plot after 2-4 episodes so it’s kinda a rule to stay and watch at least until 2 episodes in, but if anything i’d like to say, that’s how you pique people’s curiosity in ONE episode

    3
    1

I agree. Other beanies have the 4 episodes rule, I only have 2. A drama must have interesting premiere episodes for me to get hooked and continue watching.

      1
      1

Honestly, me too. I only stayed for 2 episodes for interesting premises and 4 episodes for the actors that i adore lmao

But honestly I think a lot of dramas tend to set up their story in 4 episodes even so the real story only started on ep 5 which is why for things like that I prefer to actually wait (like sageuk mostly)

When someone in Korea produces it.

Netflix just bought the licensing rights to it.

lol noo I meant netflix original tends to be darker and more free about their content as opposed to the shows that airs on tv be it public broadcast or cable

I am seriously wondering what he couldn’t do five years ago. He seems like a terrible person based on his memories of how he treated her and her dad.

    5
    2

Marry her. Isn’t he a divorcee? Prolly cancelled on Dali days before the wedding because he might have got some inside info that marrying into Cheong Song family will no longer be profitable to his business or family. Also has got something to do with his family still objecting to him marrying Dali. So his words of “you can just stay here” is more of an insult than procalmation of love, but Dali got right back at him or the above all are just my assumptions 😂😂

The way he told her that she could just stay there really made me angry. I don’t feel any respect he has for her: dragging her to the place they thought they would live in once they got married, telling her she could just stay there and nobody would know. I though he wanted her as his mistress.

        1
        0

Well kdrama has always had their way on turning this into the guy’s favor. Probably has something to do with Taejin and his rich friends sociallite and how he sacrificed his love for her sake blegh

How dare he assuming that she hasn’t moved on from him because she still have lingering romantic feelings for him? How CAN he? He should suspect that she might have harbored grudges toward him. That would be more probable.

    1
    0

i guess with years and years of sageuk child counterpart covered really well by Nam Dareum, Yoo Chanyoung, and friends as well as Yeo Jingoo and friends before that, I really took them for granted

5
10

I think both Lovers of the red sky and King’s affection don’t seem to have a convincing male-lead child-counterpart. In King’s affection, for me personally, I failed to understand and feel the deep connection between Dam-i and young Jiwoon that I feel like all I wanted is for Dam-i/Crown Prince to successfully live with her facade instead of meeting again with him then fall in love etc etc lol

*ps. HOW GOOD DOES PARK EUNBIN LOOK??? like seriously both in her male outfits and when she let her hair fall omgomg

    3
    2

      Agreed.
Yeo Jin-goo and Nam Dareum in 2 different generations. Lee Taeri aka the younger Lee Min-ho, Noh Young-hak, Lee Hyun-woo, Park Gun-tae, Lee David etc were pretty darn convincing as child actors.
The girls (Eun-bin, So-hyun, Yoo-jung etc) are still rocking it as young adult. I would love to see more of Jin Ji-hee in a sageuk though.

Park Eun-bin honed her skills as a child actress in sageuks. It’s not easy to play the opposite sex (unless you are Moon Guen-young at age 20), but Eun-bin’s mannerisms is perfect.

      7
      2

Eun Bin was child actress and that too in Saeguks I never knew that… she is excellent (hvnt watched 2nd episode but I know I’ll love her)

        2
        0

Basically the Moon that Embraces the sun child actors and Six Flying Dragons child actors lol also I’m so happy that Jin Jihee and Kim Hyunsoo has been getting the spotlight from Penthouse altho I couldn’t stand even 15 mins of that one lol

Yess, the only thing unconvincing from Eunbin is that she’s so tiny for a man and that her face is all soft whilst the other man had scruffs (which was mentioned in the drama lol)

        3
        1

“The Moon that Embraces the Sun” child actors were the late 90s group. SFD cast the early 2000 child actors. . Our little Heo Jung-eun is on her own. I don’t know which group to put her in. LOL

I’m also happy to see Lee Se-young, as the lead in a sageuk. She is another sageuk child actress that is doing well.

What should we do about Kwak Dong-yeon? The sageuk Gods are not listening to our prayers.

          2
          1

Yes so basically Moon and SFD has the best child actors of their generation and I guess that was why the childhood portion was so good and it set a nice ground for the adult story, I guess Heo Jungeun is about Kim Kanghoon (Racket Boys, Camelia, My wife is having an affair) age? Sadly I think they haven’t met in any project.
Yoo Seunghoo has also thrived and I was hoping I could see him and Lee Seyoung again in a sageuk.

Up to this day, I still think a lot about Kwak Dongyeon’s Moonlight character oh my god he was so good

            0
            0

exactly same sentiments abt Kings Affection.
Red Sky.. I felt that strong connection between Cheon Gi and Ha Ram as kids that I did feel their meeting as Adult had such a strong impact on me.
But after 1st episode I couldn’t feel that same level of yearning from Child character in kings affection.. may be 2nd one will help me.

      3
      1

For me personally Red sky’s child actors were also unconvincing but somehow their chemistry works better. Is it weird that I feel the chemistry between the real crown prince (that child actress) and Dam-i (her AGAIN) is better lmao
I was almost hoping that he wasn’t actually dead lol

        4
        2

lol.. you’re not weird at all. I felt that chemistry between her as Prince and as Dami..
so I think it’s the actor’s acting capability of an actor that plays major role in making us feel the chemistry between characters they play.

          0
          0

Same here! I thought the female child actress did very well in portraying 2 distinct characters! What a talent at such a young age.

          2
          0

Wow… The King\’s Affection\’s child actress blew my minds she\’s so good at playing both the prince and princess w o w

Me going into ep 14 of cha cha cha hoping at least the Dushik plot will be have a good resolve and clear background :

It feels like at this point the writer just gave up and do whatever so that they can write the happy portion again

    2
    1

hahaha… the writer just wants to keep THE BIG SECRET till the last 5 mints i guess… cause then there wont be any possibility to drag further (or may be second season…)
m abt to start 14th epi.. *fingers crossed*

Aww I actually love it all the way to the end despite few hiccups (the noble idiocy, the ppl filled ep 15, and honestly ep 16 were more of a bonus episode lol). And now watching it again after cha cha cha… I appreciate the drama even more

What do i have to sacrifice to see Kim Sohyun, Kim Yoojung, and Yeo Jingoo in one sageuk all together again????? If hospital playlist can bring 5 leads then why can\’t these 3 reunite…..

4
4

But instead of having Kim Yoojung and Kim Sohyun fighting each other, we’ll be seeing them trying to reach the same goal with different approach, how bout that. Yeo Jingoo is the King they might fighting along or against with. Damn that would be am avenger level sageuk

    2
    0

Not to exaggerate, but I’d give up both my kidneys to see that reunion. It’d be too powerful.

    3
    1

I might do that as well….. It just frustrates me how all of them are arguably the best for sageuk yet we haven’t seen them together again as adults (even in non sageuk)
