You From Another Star: Episode 19

Way to tug the heart and draw out the tears. While I would say the overall trajectory of this episode is rather expected, the drama drops a few surprises in our laps, namely in showing us just exactly how deep the love runs. Min-joon certainly takes the adage Actions speak louder than words to extremes, even if his reticence to speak the words balances it out by hitting the other extreme. (Actions are awesome, yes, but would a word or two once in a while kill ya?)

RECAP: NINETEENTH RECORD

In Joseon times, Min-joon receives a visitor: It’s Ryu Seung-ryong, playing Heo Kyun! He’s the famed writer of The Chronicles of Hong Gil-dong and Min-jono’s friend (and also the one who gifted Min-joon with that vase, I’m now recalling, that Song-yi smashed while “cleaning.”)

Heo Kyun explains that he is writing a novel about a hero who uses his powers to help the commoners, which is why he’s here to see Min-joon. He has heard of Min-joon possessing powers and wishes to see it for himself in order to write of it.

Min-joon smiles and vanishes before his eyes, and Heo Kyun freaks out. Min-joon reappears behind him, and Heo Kyun gapes in astonishment, eager to know what kind of wizardry he practices.

Min-joon corrects him, saying that he doesn’t practice wizardry, nor is he like his novel hero because he doesn’t use his powers to help people—he tried that, and it only made him a monster in their eyes. Heo Kyun asks if he would reveal himself to save someone he loves, and Min-joon just says that alas, there’s nobody he loves so wholly. Furthermore, since he will one day return home, he isn’t foolish enough to give anybody his heart. Famous last words.

Song-yi sobs over Min-joon’s journal, reading his prediction about dying, and then goes to Lawyer Jang. They both know she knows the truth but she still calls him “Father” (as in, Min-joon’s), saying that Min-joon wrote that Lawyer Jang was like a father to him. She’s still struggling to accept the whole alien concept and shares what she read, that he’ll die if he doesn’t return home.

Lawyer Jang explains that Min-joon has changed a lot already—he used to be impervious to hot and cold, and his powers are waning. She asks why he would decide to stay despite facing death, and Lawyer Jang answers simply that he loves her that much. He adds, “Much earlier than when you began to like him, he cared for you very much. And he cares for you much more than you imagine. He didn’t want to hurt you so he tried hard not to let things come to this. I tried to stop him many times, but what could I do? He would lay down his life to be with you.”

Min-joon responds to Hwi-kyung’s call by arriving at his hotel door, and when it goes unanswered, he passes through it to find Hwi-kyung very drunk. He asks Min-joon what the nature of his powers are, which allow him to perform miraculous feats and win the heart that Hwi-kyung has been unable to win. “You have it all,” he says, tears in his eyes. “I envy you.”

Min-joon replies, “I envy you.” Hwi-kyung laughs bitterly, then states that his blood relation tried to kill the woman he loves, and did kill his brother. Recalling that he brought his eldest brother the tainted juice, Hwi-kyung breaks down, “I… with my own hands… I gave that to him.” Worse yet, if the truth comes out, his whole family will be ruined.

Min-joon says that he understands, but can’t let the crime go. Furthermore, Jae-kyung probably has it in for Hwi-kyung now, and that puts Song-yi at risk too. Hwi-kyung says this is why he called Min-joon, and asks what he should do.

Min-joon returns home to a note from Song-yi saying that she’s tired and will see him tomorrow. Next door, Song-yi thinks of Lawyer Jang’s words about Min-joon’s love for her and runs the faucet to muffle the sound of her crying.

Jae-kyung receives a call from a mysterious number, and the voice on the other end stops him short: It’s the recording of his hyung, begging for his mercy all those years ago. Hwi-kyung reveals himself as the caller, and immediately Jae-kyung turns on his sweet-talking voice and offers to explain.

He arrives shortly thereafter at Hwi-kyung’s hotel room, where Hwi-kyung is staggering and unfocused. Drunk, or faking? (Please oh please let this be a fakeout.)

Either way, Jae-kyung smirks and figures that his pesky ex must have supplied that recording. Hwi-kyung looks devastated as he asks how many people Jae-kyung has killed, including their brother and Yura.

Meanwhile, the ex-wife is beside herself with worry—she tells Se-mi that she may have told Hwi-kyung something she shouldn’t have, and is now worried for his safety. That’s enough to get Se-mi upset, and she tries to call.

Jae-kyung pats his brother’s head gently, which by the way is far creepier than threatening him with dire words, and says that he bears no grudge against him. If Hwi-kyung cooperates, he won’t even do anything to him. Gee, how generous.

Then Jae-kyung pulls out his dart gun and levels it at Hwi-kyung, demanding the recording. If Little Bro doesn’t play nice, he’ll become a tragic story of a chaebol who got drunk and committed suicide. Jae-kyung was shrewd enough (er, evil enough, I guess) to purchase the gun in Hwi-kyung’s name, and is ready to play the part of a grieving hyung who rushed his brother to the hospital, too late to save him.

Just then the gun disappears from his grasp, and when he turns he finds it being leveled at his own face, in Min-joon’s hand. (If you look closely, I’m pretty sure there’s an eye-roll from Jae-kyung, as if to say, You again?!) Now Hwi-kyung faces his brother, sober and serious, and tells him to surrender himself. Jae-kyung laughs at the thought and warns Min-joon that he’s making a big mistake, but Min-joon just takes him by the collar and vanishes with him.

They reappear in an elevator that takes them to the lobby, where Seok is waiting to make the arrest. Jae-kyung orders his lawyer called, but Seok informs him that the hotel room was outfitted with a camera. Jae-kyung smoothly starts covering his ass, saying he was just putting a little fear into his kid brother and meant nothing, arguing that there’s no basis for the murder claims.

That’s when Detective Park appears with Killer Secretary in custody (booyah!), nabbed for sabotaging the stunt wire. That’s enough to shut Jae-kyung up for now, though he keeps a smile on his face as he’s escorted out in handcuffs. A mob of reporters is on hand to hurl questions, and Jae-kyung praises Hwi-kyung for thinking to call the press.

Jae-kyung says he never meant to use the dart gun on Hwi-kyung… but had prepared something else as insurance. Augggghhh, now this I believe, and it’s something our good guys hadn’t anticipated. As Jae-kyung names a wine—Song-yi’s favorite—we see her receiving a message from “Min-joon” with flowers and a date request for lunch. Song-yi makes it to the restaurant and waits, while a waiter surreptitiously swipes her cell phone. Wine is poured…

Min-joon shoves Jae-kyung against a wall and camera flashes erupt. Jae-kyung taunts him to use his skills to save Song-yi, laughing that there are too many people watching. Min-joon clenches his jaw but throws Jae-kyung into the crowd of reporters, then freezes time—just long enough to disappear.

Jae-kyung says smugly that Min-joon won’t be able to save her anyway, at which Hwi-kyung launches himself at his brother and punches him in the face, shouting, “Are you even human? I’m going to kill you!”

Min-joon appears in the restaurant and crashes onto a table, and finds Song-yi sitting nearby. She’s sluggish and her wineglass is empty, and moments later she keels over into Min-joon’s arms. The other diners recognize her and start snapping photos, but a second later Min-joon and Song-yi are gone.

Min-joon carries her to the emergency room and starts barking orders at nurses, and when they don’t move quickly enough he starts grabbing supplies. Heo Kyun’s statements were prescient after all, because at this point Min-joon doesn’t even care about hiding his powers, summoning equipment and blockading the bed with medical carts.

The news hits the internet fast, and Se-mi, Lawyer Jang, and Yoon-jae all read the headlines, which describe Song-yi’s restaurant disappearing act and arrival in the emergency room. Not one to miss a meta joke opportunity, the drama makes sure to have Mom note that Song-yi sure is going to the hospital a lot. Ha.

By now reporters have found their way to the hospital too, but Min-joon is fixated completely on Song-yi as she stirs awake. She says that there are too many people, asking to go someplace quiet, and Min-joon agrees. He gathers her in his arms, and with cameras clicking away, he vanishes right before their eyes.

They reappear on a garden path lined with flowers, and Min-joon says with satisfaction that they made it—he’s never gone this far before. He says nobody will be able to find them, since they’re the only people here. Looking around, Song-yi asks if they’re on his planet, and he nods. Wait, what?

Song-yi takes a few hesitant steps, then says excitedly that she can breathe and not levitate. Min-joon scoffs, “Do you even know how far an alien planet would be?” HA, he was pulling her leg. He asks what she’d do if they were on his planet, and she answers simply that she’d find a way to survive somehow. (For good measure, she adds that she’d be really popular on his planet with her looks.)

It turns out that they’re at the very top of a mountainous island; there are buildings nearby, but Min-joon assures her that they’re alone and Song-yi exults, shouting into the wind. She yells, “I’m Chun Song-yi! Try and catch me!” Holding Min-joon, she continues: “He’s an alien! Try catching him too!”

He smiles hugely, and it’s so sweet to see them looking so happy. The smile fades a bit as she says they’re going to live together here, just the two of them. She prods him to say something too, and he gamely gives it a go: “We’re going to live well, just the two of us!”

Song-yi suggests taking a photo together, so they snap a sel-ca on his phone. Going on a walk, she notices an interesting tree duo with intertwined branches and trunks, which he explains as two different species growing together as one. She envies them for being able to be together till death, and requests another photo in front of the trees.

She says that while they’re here, they should pretend that time flows differently—that she’s not a famous actress, and he’s not an alien in hiding. “While we’re here, let’s not care about the outside world.”

He agrees, and she tells him, “I love you. If you say you want to live on this star, I want to live here too. And if you say you have to go to another star, I want to follow you there—that’s how much I love you.”

Raising a hand to his face, she says, “Even though I’m anxious that you’ll disappear right away, and even though I’d sell my soul for the time we could be together, if only we could stop time forever… and even though sometimes these feelings are too hard for me and I might wish I hadn’t met you… still, even if I could turn time back, I would meet you again, and I would bicker with you, and I would fall for you, and I would love you.”

Min-joon wipes her tears and says, “Sure.”

She teases him about his very unromantic reply, but as she’s outlining how he ought to be replying, Min-joon kisses her. (Annnnnnd two seconds later Song-yi’s dragging his staggering body along again. Pwahahaha. That will never not be funny.)

Back in Seoul, the gossip reaches a fever pitch and Song-yi dominates the real-time internet queries. Ex-manager Bum gushes about how public opinion is swinging upward for Song-yi now that Jae-kyung has been named as the culprit in Yura’s death. Piling on top of the sympathy for Song-yi being wrongfully suspected, there’s the wild interest in her dating someone with superpowers, which only adds to her mystique.

CEO Ahn takes this all in without much reaction until he hears that the CF offers are pouring in from people who assume she’s still their client. Suddenly he’s all interest and concern, and says that he felt bad for her all along

Lawyer Jang watches the news reports about the disappearing couple, who not only have dozens of eyewitnesses but also CCTV footage to fuel speculation of Min-joon’s alien/magic/superpower abilities. Lawyer Jang sighs and wonders, “Are you satisfied now? Are you happy?”

Min-joon and Song-yi hole up in what I’m going to assume is an empty guest house, napping together until Min-joon’s kiss-induced fever subsides. She notices that his recovery was quicker today, and suggests another photo. Aw, each time she takes one it’s like a tiny dagger in my heart—she’s stocking up for the day he’s not here.

While they eat together, Song-yi asks out of the blue, “How many children should we have?” He chokes on his food, but thinks it over: “Seven?” She thinks that’s a lot, but he says back in ye olden days, that was common. She asks, “Then four daughters and three sons?” Min-joon replies, “Seven daughters.” Awww. (Sons are too noisy, he says, but he’d be fine if they popped one out anyway.)

Song-yi spins a fantasy scenario of raising their family of nine, moving to their own house with a yard, maybe getting dogs. He smiles and agrees that that’d be nice. Though when Song-yi prods him to say I love you because he’s never said so in words, he just tells her to eat up. Heh.

Jae-kyung sits in jail, stewing. Lucky for him, he has his powerful father on his side, who gets to work doing everything to get Jae-kyung off the hook. We can see where Jae-kyung got his Machiavellian tendencies, because Dad’s first words to Hwi-kyung are to snap that pulling this stunt isn’t going to earn him hyung’s place in the company. In Dad’s eyes, Jae-kyung is the only one capable of doing big work, and Hwi-kyung’s just some feckless loser.

Hwi-kyung tells his father that he doesn’t want any of that, and all he wants is to ask Dad not to cover up for Jae-kyung, who has committed countless crimes, including attempting to kill Song-yi today. Dad bellows, “Talk sense! Why would your brother do something like that when he has everything?!”

At that, Hwi-kyung pours his father a glass of the wine he has carried in, explaining that this is what Jae-kyung gave to Song-yi today. “I will drink it,” he says. “When I do, then please believe me.” He calls his brother a monster who would do whatever it takes to achieve his aims, and grabs the wine to drink.

At that, Dad leaps up and snatches the glass away, throwing it to the ground. Hmm, so he’s not really in the dark about Jae-kyung’s evil, is he? But then he says that if Jae-kyung did in fact do something to Song-yi, she probably did something to deserve it. Groaaaan. Facepalm. Headdesk.

And then, Eldest Hyung’s voice sounds via the recorder, pleading, “Save me.” Hwi-kyung kneels before his father and apologizes, then plays the full recording. Dad listens as Jae-kyung describes the effects of his drug, and how Jae-kyung had been thinking of this for a long time. The truth finally (finally) lands for Dad.

Song-yi’s family gathers in concern over her disappearance, unable to get a hold of her by phone. Mom is by far the most upset, assuming Min-joon’s up to no good, but Yoon-jae and Dad both speak up in his defense.

Min-joon and Song-yi walk along the beach at night, where she looks up at the sky and wonders where his planet is. They settle down in front of a bonfire, and she suggests coming here every summer, with their seven children and dogs. He agrees readily, and she says they’ll both have to work hard to support such a huge family. She asks for him to promise, and he does.

All this future talk has such a sad tinge, particularly when Song-yi asks him to sing a song for her—”One that will make me think of you in the future. One that will make you think of me. One that we can treasure in our memories for a long, long time.”

He starts singing (“Promise” by Im Byung-soo):

The stars are especially bright tonight
When this time is over,
words of leaving you make me sad
The more this night passes
ah, our happy time,
our promises whisper in my ear
and make me sad
It’s not your fault
I feel like crying
I dreamt a blue dream

She thanks him for the song, and then he gets down on his knee to face her. He says, “I can’t tell you everything you want to hear, but I want to be together with you in the future that you describe.” He takes out the ring, and at her request he slides it on her finger.

She tells him that she always wanted to receive “an immature proposal” like this. “I’m perfectly happy,” she says, crying.

Then she calls his name, saying, “My beloved Do Min-joon. It’s time for us to wake up from this dream. For my sake, exist somewhere. For me, don’t die. Exist somewhere. What I’m saying is, go. To where you were.”

EPILOGUE

Heo Kyun wraps up his visit with Min-joon, thanking him for his time and saying that it was an invaluable help to his writing. He requests permission to say one last thing: that while he has no powers of premonition, he believes that Min-joon will meet a woman and fall in love with her. And for her, he will be able to throw everything away.

Min-joon listens skeptically, but Heo Kyun explains that it’s to those who disdain love or disbelieve it who are hit hardest by it.

COMMENTS

Aw, we all knew this day was coming, right? The trajectory of this episode fell along expected lines, with one surprise: Wowsa, Min-joon, you really went all-out there with the alien reveal, huh? I loved how frantic he got, that he would bare himself to the world without second thought. It wasn’t even a calculated risk, him measuring his identity against Song-yi’s life—it was an in-the-moment decision he made when he found that his identity no longer meant anything to him if the trade-off were Song-yi’s safety.

Plus, I have to be grateful that the show presented this impending separation in this lovely bittersweet way, rather than going for full-on noble idiocy. Min-joon did indulge in a bit of that, but I love how Song-yi reacts to things (and just love her as a character, period) in taking her moment to feel sad, then tackling the problem head-on. For instance, I love her response to the question of what she’d do if she found herself on his planet: Well, she’d find a way to survive. (I’m not comparing that response to Min-joon’s since he’s dealing with a reality and she a hypothetical, but it speaks to her character in an admirable way.)

This kind of reaction to the dilemma is actually sensible enough that I’d argue that it doesn’t qualify for noble idiocy—that’s when you find out something, then go out of your way to hide it, act unilaterally (often “for their own good”), and lead both of you to misery. This, on the other hand, is poignant and thought out, a measured response to a heart-rending dilemma. Exist somewhere. That’s all she needs. *tear*

I’m glad that Jae-kyung’s been locked up and revealed for who he is, because I look forward to next week’s episodes as wrap-ups to the characters we love and don’t want to spend any extra time on inevitable plot stuff. The recent turns have given Hwi-kyung a lovely chance to shine as a good, decent person, and while he remains lovelorn for Song-yi, at least he had a purpose in this story that went beyond mere second lead pawn.

Now, the question is: Whose will is going to prevail? Will Min-joon leave to oblige Song-yi’s wishes, or will he insist on staying, because as Heo Kyun said, he’s going to be willing to give up everything he has for his love? I don’t doubt that Song-yi loves Min-joon—she shows him with every action, and says it openly and often—but a part of me really felt that tug on the heart when Lawyer Jang laid out for her just how much Min-joon loves her. It’s true that he’s not an expressive guy, but I don’t doubt that he feels his love with incredible force. While love is no “Whose is bigger?” game, I do feel like his love is more all-encompassing than hers, more dire and fraught. So even if she asks him to leave, I don’t know if he’ll be able to do that.

What am I saying? He’s not leaving, duh. No way, no how. La la la la la, I can’t hear you.

I have relished your recaps. You have done a terrific job. I decided to reserve watching this drama until it was complete and I could marathon watch it but I have not been able to resist your recaps. Intriguing story, great actors and hopefully a happy ending. I love the 20 (21) segment format. It is a much richer viewing experience, so satisfying. One can feel so vested in the characters and their story with the defined timeline and conclusion. If American networks would adopt this format I imagine more of the stellar actors from movies and stage would appear in TV performances. I appreciate PBS for their productions in this manner. Thanks again!

So, when Hwi Kyung was meeting with Jae Kyung, Min Joo told Se Mi that she was worried and Se Mi tried to call Hwi Kyung. Maybe 15 minutes at most passed and Se Mi was suddenly in her van looking at the news article about Song Yi disappearing from the restaurant. Did I miss something? Or has Se Mi become such a minor character that she just pops up sometimes as a cue to guide the audience's reactions?

And yeah, I was counting how many times Min Joon just said "okay" to everything; Song Yi really did most of the talking, right? Of course, she was amazing, but hopefully he'll talk more next episode~~~

I think it was within different time setting.

But actually, I lil bit confuse with the timing. When HK calling Min Joon to come to his place, it was during the night. But when HK meeting with JK dan MJ, it was during the day. As far as I remember, JK and MJ was wearing the same outfit, both on the night and day setting (CMIIW).

By the way, I feel Se Mi has come back a little bit into her nice nature. I like her reaction when she knows what happen to CSY and ask her manager to go to hospital right away. I hope she will restore her friendship with CSY..

might I add, to the writer that not a happy ending cause we couldnt take the sad or bittersweet one but cause we want to believe in the characters existing somewhere on THIS planet. that they are HERE among us oh this sounds creepy actually.
every book I read, I take it as the characters are alive here, like in Sophies´ world

it was a fantastic episode... it was so romantic that he disregarded everyone and teleported 3 times....and when MIN JOON threw JAE KYUNG in front of reporters .. i loved it.... and when he simply disappeared with CSY in hospital.. it was sooooooooooooo romantic..and his song was beautiful... seriously... anybody would have fallen for him and all the viewers who heard him singing must have..i surely would have if i hadnt already fallen for him...
desperately waiting for a happy end.. maybe it will be like gumiho... he goes and then returns again in a few years... i wouldn't accept anything less than that....

What a great episode!

I do wonder how they are going to wrap it up. There are similarities to the movie "ET" and they have brought in the book "The Incredible Journey of Edward Tulane".

ET - once the government and media found out about ET, he wasn't safe and was better off going home. Is this a possible angle for the finale, or will they say that the disappearances were special effects for a new movie project or some other such explanation?

In the Edward Tulane book, the figurine and the girl are reunited many years later. Is this another possible ending - using reincarnation again, since Song- Yi does appear to be a reincarnated version of the young girl from 400 years ago. I agree that to do it Gu Family book style would be a disaster for this excellent drama.

I am intrigued with the "I Love You" possibility that several have mentioned here. The power of those words in the elemental form. A deep, pure love has broken many a curse in tales and stories - think of Lucy in the Narnia series.

So many good elements in this series - I hope that writer fatigue doesn't create another WTF KDrama ending!

do you really think a simple "I love you" would be enough?
Their best option to turn MJ human is, well, khmm. Making one of those babies. khmm. I think.

This is the first comment I've seen that echoes my fears after DMJ teleported on camera several times this episode. Like ET, DMJ (and by association CSY) wouldn't be safe. I don't think the media, scientific community, global military/governmental/industrial complex would ever leave him alone. I was surprised how seemingly easily the media and public accepted seeing him teleport with CSY.

I like the theory that he becomes human because he's adapting to ongoing kisses from CSY, loses his superpowers so no one will bother them going forward, he stays on earth but DOESN'T DIE!!!!, and they have babies and puppies to grow into a big family with a backyard. How? I have no idea, but please Writer-nim?

We can conveniently ignore his premonition vision of his body disintegrating/disappearing or our brilliant writer-nim can explain how love changes fate. He has changed so much from the early episodes when he believed nothing he did could alter fate. Love, sacrifice, redemption are much more powerful than a preordained fate. Love between DMJ and CSY, sacrifice of his return to his home planet, redemption of all the broken relationships (except Jae Kyung who needs to be held responsible for all of his crimes - he is such a psychopath!)

The reincarnation/doppelgänger solution a la Rooftop Prince would be so disappointing. Boo. Hiss. Don't go this route please, writer-nim. Show us a way to our happy ending!

I really love the character Cheon Song Yi.
The best heroine so far!

Strangely, watching the episodes this week and last week, I am feeling serene about whatever the ending is.

I am comforted by the fact that for the last 4 episodes especially this episode 19, Cheon Song Yi have come to know and realize how deep Do Min Joon loves her and Do Min Joon also know and feel how deep Song Yi loves him.

Still, it will be really really really great to be able to see the 7 daughters, or 6 daughters and 1 son and the 5 dogs in the Do household.

@ Ava; I agree; I was feeling a lot of angst, but I feel, your word, serene about the ending.
They both know how they feel, what they want, and realize it might not be possible. There are times when that happens; it's sad.
She is resourceful and made of study stuff; DMJ is made of sturdy stuff, but we know little about life or love on his planet. Maybe they mate for life.
I'm still hopeful that the changing plants are a reflection of his internal changing body chemistry; making him human.

I think it fits perfectly with his simplistic nature.
Sure, a fancy big rock might've suited cheon song yi's nature, but i think she was so touched by his proposal she didn't even care, and neither did I.
Plus if you look carefully it looks like a ring that, like many have said previously, symbolizes the two planets which i think is far more meaningful. I think the production team chose it for a reason. They could have easily chosen any fancy rock as PPL, but it seems like they were looking for something more suited for this otp

I thought the ring looked really elegant. Not a fan of huge rocks at all... way too flashy. I thought the proposal scene was perfect!

If you want to see beautiful jewelry (e.g. a Cartier engagement ring) featured or bestowed upon the female lead, then check out the 2013 Kdrama When A Man Loves with Song Seung-Heon. Be forewarned - although WAML has plenty of eyecandy scenes, it is plagued with foibles by the main characters and is riddled with other shortcomings.

The Cartier jewelry was absolutely stunning and its Product Placement (PPL) integrated seamlessly into the sequence of events in the drama's plotline.

Finally evil hyung is down, now keep ur skinny ass in there and never appear again, let SY and DMJ resolve the real deal here. I am so not ready for a sad sad ending T_T

I'm not sure if anyone has same feeling as me.

For this episode, event though i dont know what are they talking abt, but the scense touched my heart most is the one Song-Yi tell MJ she love him, the whole speak. What a couple, our leads did the terrific job that bring tear to my eyes. Replaied it few times, the more i watch the more i was moved. Hilarious thing is, i know no Korean word.

Still not watch my native sub yet, but have to shout this out.

I have never interested to comment before because I can't choose the right words to express my feelings in English (it's my second language) but this drama is too heart-wrenching I even cried my eyes out at the beach part. every action DMJ did, every word CSY said in this episode are giving more and more pain to me. I think I really need to let out some lol

few weeks ago --heck, yesterday, I was still demanding a happy ending where I could see a wedding of them. but after watching this episode, I'm still not sure what I really want for these two. either DMJ dies or leaves, both of them are too sad, I couldn't imagine how much tears I'd let out. sobs. one thing for sure, reincarnation or doppleganger stuff is a big no! it's too lame. boo.

thankyou so so so sooo much for the recaps! I'm sorry I've been a silent reader for so long teehee

I agree... I had wanted DMJ to stay no matter what, but now I feel that I want him to go home and stay alive.

I think it would be fitting for CSY to end up with LHK as we never get the vibe that LHK will end up with YSM.

I hope HK ends up with either Bok Ja or finds a female alien....

besides do you all not think in 400 years, shouldn´t the aliens evolve enough to think of a way to live on Earth? Rules can change in such a long time. Do they not know evolution?

But could they be truly happy if that happens, he knowing that she never loved him and is pining for Do Min Joon and she getting with him out of pity as a replacement for Do Min Joon. I mean who wants to be 2nd choice in a relationship anyway. Somehow I can't see that happening. With everything that they've teased us with during the drama, I'm really hoping for a happy ending- I mean in this episode alone you see the 2 trees of 2 different species growing together for a long time, then them remarking on it, in another episode you see her in a restaurant on the 100day anniversary waiting for him expectantly, you get the story from the ceramic rabbit and then the words " without love, how could there be a happy ending". you get the acceptance by Song Yi's brother and father who was gone for 12 years, then you see both of their dreams- They both want to be with each other, he is imagining that she's even pregnant with his child, and her she too has her own fantasies of having kids and dogs. To wrench all of that away is just so cruel. We never got the vibe that she would be with LHK either, she had told him from the beginning that she wasn't interested in him, in fact she told him who she loved. Somehow I just can't see him settling for being 2nd best and her taking a replacement. but hey That's just me.

JJH's range of acting is very impressive. And she does make those transitions seamless and real. There are just so many dimensions to her character that I'm not sure we'll ever be treated to another like it ... the combination of writing and acting just can't be over looked.

Her comedy reminds me of Lucile Ball.

I'm just glad this show hasn't abandoned the comedy like Prime Minister and I ...

I can't help but appreciate how well characterized Cheon Song-yi is. Rather than taking the noble idiot route, she was actually straightforward, remaining true to her character. I liked how logical it seemed to meet Lawyer Jang when she found out about it. And Lawyer Jang telling her all about MJ. T_T All the characters are fleshed out really well.

I knew MJ's powers would come to public view when I first read about the drama, but it had slipped out of my mind until this episode. I hope this remains just as a social media fad and is forgotten quickly. Hui Kyung is now the best second lead ever. And Park Hae Jin really has some skills. I am so happy that finally the devil is caught. Although I am worried about how the cctv clip can be used as a proof when MJ appears and moves suddenly, I hope Pros Yoo will take care of it. I loved how HK handled his (bloody idiotic) father's denial.

I am taking it for granted that the JK is done for now. Because if he isn't, I'll be tired of this. And this writer does not make me tired, ever. She cuts off at simply the right points, and it makes it feel so real and original.

It was almost like the producers read our comments at dramabeans. With people asking for little Min Joons and the finale of evil brother arc. XD With the mention of seven children(and five dogs) and a countryside house, it was exactly as I had imagined it(although with 2 or 4 children). I hope it comes true!

And the ending was so sad. I was worried SY would reject him(like a typical oh-so-sacrificing female lead), but she didn't! Way to go, girl! “For my sake, exist somewhere.” Made me cry. And I love how this drama handles plot devices. It keeps the viewers hooked, but it doesn't make them panic all week long.

They included that MJ was growing more tolerant, that means we weren't wrong with our speculations. There is still hope!

I am afraid that even if it has a sad ending, I'll still love this drama. I can't help but love it because it is so unique. And beautiful. And well scripted. With amazing characterization. I can't hate it. “Love is cruel.”

And so I hope, I really hope they find out a way.

This may be out of topic but can somebody explain to me why some people at Soompi are saying that KSY and JJH won't be making another drama as OTP? Someone said something like it's Korean tradition not to repeat OTP?

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Not that it's tradition, but from the track record it's really rare for south korean celebrities to pair up again in a drama they've already been paired up in as the OTP.
It's more possible for them to participate in CFs together (like suzy and kim soo hyun with beanpole) or maybe movie/drama combo (like son ye jin + kim nam gil/ JJH + KSH in recent memory).
I don't know if it's because there's such a large pool of celebrities to choose from, or if it's because they prefer not to pair up OTP twice, I have no idea. Just that JJH will probably not return to dramaland in either a long time or ever. The main reasons she returned was because KSH convinced her, and because she connected to the heroine or liked the unique storyline. Dramas are vigorous and demanding, with much less pay than movies (which is less time consuming and a better pay).
So while it is possible for these two to reunite in award ceremonies, movie premieres, CFs, and MAYBE a movie, i think it's a far stretch to say these two will be able to work together in another drama.. JJH even recently said this will be the last time they work together. I don't want to let them go yet.

I've been thinking about how Jang Hyuk and Lee Da Hae have paired up three times in Kdramaland. As rare as that is, I am going to keep on hoping that it could also happen to our KSH and JJH!

I think JJH might not return to dramaland for a while but I would hope that one day, there will be another role that equally piques her interest and lures her back. I seriously think coming on board YFAS is one of the smartest moves in her career, because people are going to be talking about her for a long, long time! This drama has served as a vehicle for her to engage the domestic as well as international audience, because I think people connect with drama characters in a way they are unable to with movie characters. As memorable as Yenicall was, Chun Songyi has affected us like no other JJH character before. Also, JJH is so talented, I'd hate to think we are going to only see her in 2 hour snippets per year! :(

Thanks for the great, as usual, recap.
Laughed totally out loud at this: "Annnnnnd two seconds later Song-yi’s dragging his staggering body along again. Pwahahaha. That will never not be funny."

And her response to him fainting is almost as funny as her dragging him back. she's like "What?? again"

I do agree that they skipped, so far, the noble idiocy, and went for simply noble. It is noble and eloquent to want the best for the one you love. DMJ existing on another star is preferable to him dead.

I also love how practical the immature, spoiled doesn't-even-know-how-to-order coffee movie star really is deep and thoughtful, and somehow resilient. Her maturity has grown so much during the episodes. She's a fantastic actress who is wonderful in everything she does.

And DMJ: he has this part nailed; although I must admit, I do get a kick when he laughs or smiles (like when she tickled him in bed). it's so charming.

I'm still hoping for the happy ending; I could see them going to his star (along with her brother) or DMJ staying here and becoming more human.

This drama was so wonderfully done; the plot is pretty solid, the bringing together the loose ends doesn't feel rushed. I can see why the writer was hesitant to end it an episode; almost all the arc's are finished.

Love this show.

Whatever the outcome, I'm so going to miss this show. I watched it for my favorite Korean actress of all time, Jeon Ji Hyeon, but in the process discovered Kim Soo Hyun (I know right? Where have I been????)and the writer of this drama.

This drama has it all, for the most parts. Actors who are undoubtedly easy on the eyes but are also super talented, lots of laugh, special effects that are believable, great cinematograpy (I forget it's a tv drama), and the all time favorite plot that has tugged women's hearts since Jane Austen, A Mr. Darcy-like alien who has given his all to the woman he loves. And call me old-fashioned, but there is something very endearing about two people being each other's first and, most likely, only love.

A part of me believes CSY is a reincarnation if only for that one scene when she felt great sadness in seeing the hairpin. It's also the only "logical" tie to why DMJ was drawn to her in modern times and the exact age he lost SYH. Especially, since it's never happened to him before. An ending like that would not be my first choice though. It didn't feel that it rang true with neither The Gu Family Book nor The Rooftop Prince. So, please....the-Alien- acclimating- to-Earth-by-losing-his-superpowers-and-aging-like-the-rest-of- us is a perfectly fine route to take.

Thanks for the recap!

The Joseon scene with Heo Kyun... Everybody just wants to pinch MJ's cheek. XD So funny to see how freaked out Heo Kyun was. And of course, we know when MJ said those words about never loving someone wholeheartedly, he spoke too soon.

Glad that SY sought out Lawyer Jang to clarify the meaning of the journal entry. It's about time someone tells her straight up just how much MJ loves her and what he's willing to give up just for the sake of staying by her side. Even though SY has been good about MJ's "uniqueness" thus far, I get the sense she didn't see the whole picture and extent of MJ's love till now. After all, he kept pushing her away and she was the one who kept "throwing" herself at him. She really needs to truly realize how much he's done for her

I guess with HK finding such terrible truth about the murder of elder bro, he can only resort to the alliance with MJ in this distraught state if he wants to do something about JK. Even though it might seem like an odd pairing, these two teaming up is awesome and I'm glad they devised a plan together. The "I envy you" exchange saddened me. On the surface, MJ seems to have it all. But he can't be like HK, who doesn't need to worry about suddenly disappearing or dying because he's not human. All he wants is to stay by SY's side. =(

So sad to see SY crying in the bathroom with the water running. She probably didn't want MJ to hear her sobs in case he came home.

JK going through the steps of killing HK should he not provide the incriminating evidence is just so heartless that it sends chills. And putting SY's life on the line again! I totally felt MJ and HK's rage. *punch punch* Love that MJ doesn't care about outing himself if it meant he can save SY. Rushing to the restaurant and then taking charge at the hospital, you go, MJ! When SY woke up and just wanted to be alone with him, he agreed right away even though so many reporters were around. ^^V At least public reaction towards SY is now turning favourable.

Love where MJ took SY and so cute when he realized he made it this far OK. Can't believe SY thought they'd travelled to his planet. Haha! Her matter-of-fact reaction is alway so funny and cool. Really happy to see her shouting out loud and relieving stress. When she asked MJ to try it out, he did it right away! I thought there would've been more to that scene, like MJ giving a really weak shout attempt grandpa style and SY going tsk tsk what the heck is that and asking him to try again. LOL

“He’s an alien! Try catching him too!” Love this line and MJ's bright smile! That lit up the screen and made me all warm and fuzzy inside how happy he is and that they can enjoy this private time. Keke~

The selca taking was bittersweet since we know SY is doing it to document their memories together with MJ still unaware that she knows the truth. Man, these selcas! JJH + KSH = perfect visuals! Might as well be for a cell phone CF! The intertwining trees mirroring their relationship is a nice touch.

SY's confession was very touching and beautiful. She's never been shy at expressing how she feels about MJ, but it was really sweet to hear her spell it all out for him and how she'd do it all over again if given a second chance. You can see how moved MJ was by those words, yet he just goes "OK" to them. Heehee~ But of course, we would need another kiss here, subsequently followed by more SY dragging MJ inside. Never gets...

(continued)

Never gets old! At least it seems he's building up tolerance.

The eating scene... Hahaha! When SY spoke so directly about how many kids they're having, love MJ's reaction! And the whole convo about sons and daughters is so funny and sweet, just planning out their future together and imagining what life would be like. MJ looks totally dreamy at the thought of this kind of life. Also, I <3 that ramyun reaction pic!!

What a relief that HK finally breaks the news to his dad what a monster JK is. Even though he doesn't wanna put his dad through hell, this is the only way! At least the dad doesn't completely think HK wasn't speaking the truth and knocked the wine glass away just in time. Having the truth sink in from the playing of the voice pen really hammered the nail in. Thought the old man was gonna have a heart attack knowing his current beloved son had killed his once beloved son.

Love YJ defending MJ and keeping his secret with Dad agreeing MJ is a nice guy.

The walk on the beach... More talk of the future and we can already anticipate that this island getaway is like a farewell. *sobs* But yay for getting another alien song. =P (How KSH managed to sing so well a cappella amidst the gruelling filming schedule plus recording an OST track and doing photoshoots, magazine interviews, etc. is beyond me. Pretty superhuman!)

I'm glad SY did everything with MJ today and even accepted his proposal. No regrets! This woman is awesome with a capital A! But she had to tell MJ how she feels after all because there was no way she could live with the fact that his dying would ultimately be her fault. His existence and well-being are so much more important to her, even if it means they must remain apart. Now, we'll just have to see how he will react knowing she knows the truth about his condition. Next week can't come soon enough! So sad things are wrapping up, but I really wanna know what the writer plans to do. Please have a happy ending complete with a beautiful family for SY and MJ!!

This drama is so good I don't know what to say anymore. It just leaves you breathless after watching every episode. This episode totally has the best Episode 19 in the history of Kdramas. /biased

This episode is EMOTIONS and PURE LOVE. In the name of love, both MJ and SY are willing to sacrifice everything. Even it means letting go of the person you love just for him to survive and staying with your beloved even though you'll soon vanish. Songyi's love was unselfish and Minjoon's love is selfless.

I just want a happy ending. PERIOD. lol

I love this couple so so much.
From episode 1 until now, every word spoken from Cheon Song-Yi resonated with me, be it something funny, foolish, straight-forward, or just heartwarming. I was afraid she'd be a noble idiot once it was revealed do min joon would eventually die, but the way she handled everything -- confessing her feelings, enjoying the moment, actually allowing herself to be happy even if it was just for a few moments -- was just pitch perfect with how much i admire and love her as a character and as a person. What got me even more was the way she told him not to die. "Exist somewhere," "For me, don't die". Cheon Song-Yi is not a noble idiot, but like many have said, simply noble. From the beginning she has always been very egocentric and all about "me, me me" but to see how much she's grown a woman -- to be able to let go of someone because she wants more than anything for him to live -- must've taken so much strength and courage. I remember Yoon Jae telling us she never got a puppy because she'd be afraid to lose it, and that she had attachment issues. This is why her choice held even more weight for me and i applaud her for it.

The fact that Do Min Joon's actions speak louder than words is already enough for me because i do get the sense that his love is all-encompassing to the point where he'd sacrifice his life and his identity to be with her. I have no qualms that we will hear the words "saranghae" from him before this show ends, but i absolutely love how the writer, till the very end, stayed true to her characters and their personality.
Im going to miss this show so much when it ends. This OTP has certainly made my top 5 OTPs in dramaland and it was because of the combined effort from the cast, crew, writer, and everyone that helped create this beautiful and poignant show that swept us all off our feet.

Also, I am certain that we will get our happy ending. The higher ups want to please the many fans of this popular show. Kim Soo Hyun fans/ YFAS addicts begged for him to sing an ost. They complied, despite originally rejecting any claims that he would. The level of fanservice in this show is crazy onset and onscreen. And unless they want large angry mobs to come tearing down the SBS building, i doubt that this show will end badly. It is very rare for such popular hits to end badly because the amount of hate/angry mail the writer receives will haunt them for the rest of their life. Without shame, i will be one of those people.

So my only worries now is exactly how this writer will wrap up the alien dilemma and allow for this happy ending. Many could care less if it were a logical ending, but i hope that we get a smooth wrap up so that YFAS can end on a strong note.
There are TWO episodes left guys. That means two episodes to resolve whatever issues for our alien AND still get some happy times between the two. Considering the giddy OTP moments this writer has consistently given us each episode, there is no way in hell she’ll give us only 10 minutes of joy for the two in the end. Based on her track record, our OTP has been joined at the hip and most of their heart wrenching separations were short-lived. Episode 20 will resolve the alien dilemma, maybe extending a bit into episode 21 if they must, while the majority of episode 21 will be dedicated to all things happy and healthy for the OTP. If we do not get a bed scene, it is not the end of the world. I just want to see a flash-forward where we get some hybrid alien babies running around wrecking havoc with uncle yoon-jae cheerfully babysitting. No one can tell me otherwise, because i will just plug my ears and go lalalala like a foolish child.

This drama really just does all the right thing for me. I don't think I have enjoyed watching (and reading recaps) a fantasy kdrama since "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho". I appreciate the fact that they don't linger on drama cliches such as noble idiocy and that we have a heroine who is not afraid to show her feelings and an alien hero who knows that being selfish is not necessarily a bad thing if say you get to stay with the woman you love and make her happy.

Every time CSY takes a picture of them it breaks my heart little by little. Then their talk about having a huge family just about killed me. I know SHOW won't really take him away but it still so heartbreaking the way CSY was willing not to have him by her side but for him to just exist somewhere.

So sad this will be ending next week. I will miss my alien and adorably vain super star.

This episode just made me feel all sorts of emotions - happiness, anxiety, angst... But over all I love this show more and more with each episode, but it struck me that there are only two more episodes left-- what will I do with my life after this?

I was so scared for Hwi-kyung; I literally thought he would sacrifice himself and get shot just to get the CCTV recording but I'm pretty sure I had the JK eye roll on my face ('you again' as the recap says) when Do Min Joon appeared hahaha. But I'm on DMJ's side all the way! *fist pump after he appeared*

Anybody else died at the part where Songyi was shouting "HE'S AN ALIEN COME CATCH HIM" and his smile was JUST. SO. HAPPY. He was literally grinning from ear to ear! I think I replayed that scene many, many times. And the part where she goes "How many children shall we have?" And he practically spat out his ramen. I couldn't stop smiling after that.

I sort of expected this ending, but it didn't lessen the angst I felt regardless ): And now it's another whole week of waiting...

Thank you for the recap JB!

Aww, this episode, I teared up once again just reading the recap.

RSR's cameo was great! The themes he mentioned resonated throughout this episode and I loved how he predicted that MJ would find someone that he would love with all his being.

The exchange between Songyi and Lawyer Jang was so touching. I loved the way she said "Abeonim" and told him how Min-Joon regards him as a father. I had tears in my eyes when Lawyer Jang told Songyi just how deeply she is loved by Min-joon. Despite his lack of words, the depth of Min-joon's love is something that we can all feel, making that scene all the more heartbreaking.

I can't believe how Min-joon went all out to reveal himself this episode!I loved how he was barricading himself with all the hospital trolleys so the staff couldn't interfere with his treatment of Songyi. I thought after she regained conciousness, he would used the door but nope, he just vanishes right in front of all the paparazzi!!

The proposal scene immediately made me think back to the epilogue in episode 3 where Songyi was talking about her dream proposal where her man would sing her a song and get on bended knee while Minjoon was scoffing that proposals are so immature. I was so happy seeing Songyi getting her dream proposal. The proposal was just perfect in every way.

I also love how MJ and SY have reversed their views on love. MJ had remarked on episode 3 that "Love can't conquer time." while Songyi was dreaming of "A love that conquers all". Now, it seems like Songyi is being realistic, that as much as they love each other, she wants him to leave if being together on earth could mean the end of his existence. MJ on the other hand seems to be hoping against hope that just maybe, this is a love that could conquer all. *tears*

This has got to be one of the greatest love stories in dramaland.

I don't know how the writers are going to give us the happy ending with Do Min-joo staying on earth, not dying and living a long, happy life with Song-yi and their many children and grandchildren but I'd like to see if they can do it. But it makes me almost as happy to see that Song-yi is willing to let him go back to where he belongs. His fellow aliens are coming to get him after all and he must have loved ones like parents and siblings anxiously awaiting his return.

She loves him but the fact he's out there somewhere, living his life on his own planet with his own kind is good enough for her and for me. She has really matured as a woman and won't spent the rest of her days wallowing in what-might-have-beens. She's now capable of going on with strength and living her own life on her own terms, not merely as a paycheque to give her mother an affluent lifestyle. She seemed to enjoy writing her scenario so perhaps she's going to write a hit drama. Min-joo is a very wealthy man so I guess she will be well taken care of by him and Lawyer Jang financially.

I would like to see a wedding and a little Min-joo on the way before he gets on his spaceship however.

Indeed, JJH did wear beautiful clothes in every episode.

Jun Ji-Hyun (aka Gianna Jun) as the character Cheon Song-Yi, has affected the way women dress and set trends in South Korea and internationally. It is refreshing to see the female lead wear stylish clothing, seemingly effortless hair, and makeup that was feminine and gorgeous.

Jun Ji-Hyun (aka Gianna Jun) is definitely reseting the bar as a Fashion & Style Icon. Her character is a fabulous dresser with one of the most coveted closets.

Everything Jeon Ji Hyun wears in this show gets sold out really quickly. Also her lipsticks which go out of stock pretty easily.

Kim Soo Hyun is the same. Everything he wears gets sold out.

Really, these two are fashion icons in this show and the popularity of the drama is no joke.

I really agree on this. I feel like a lot of dramas (esp. the one with the chaebol plotline) the female leads are often dressed in what I consider stereotypical Korean fashion - a bit too romantic, with soft curls, and usually a fur shrug! - and it seems so run-of-the-mill.

This makes SY's wardrobe very refreshing and chic. I also love that she's not the typical cutesy spineless lead when the crunch comes. In spite of her personality flaws at the start of the show, I think overall she's a much more admirable character on the whole, than others like Gil Ra Im in Secret Garden or Cha Eun-Sang.

Sorry if it's quite a harsh dismissal of other popular shows! Don't get me wrong, I loved Secret Garden for the chemistry between the leads and their acting, but I'm so sick of portrayals of weak female characters, as well as let's-give-her-a-makeover plot angles.

I have to say that since things are wrapping up, the show is getting predictable. Only logical since this drama is full of cliches, which I don't mind since it's been dealing with all of it quite well. I find I enjoy the light-hearted and humourous scenes a lot better than the mellow dramatic ones. Hae Jin did great with his scene with his father. But I still find that across the board the sadder scenes still tend to be one-dimensional. For me, they haven't fully developed it. The tension and build-up lacked a lot to ultimately get to this big reveal, especially to the father. I find that now that there is only a few episodes left, the writers are in a rush to clear things up so they can release the final surprise (I'll withhold my prediction). I just hope I won't be disappointed with gaining closure and loose ends.

Oh please, I'm not even insulting the drama. I very much adore this drama. I love that it mocks the cliches, although, I wish it wasn't so predictable. i.e. the breakup scene. No need for the attitude.

This is my critical opinion that there is a lack in buildup and strong development with the main storyline. My opinion is that they focused too much on the romance and not so much on the supporting characters like Hae Jin and Jae Kyung to really create the tension and emotions that I personally felt they could capitalize on. Agree to disagree, I really do not care. But there is no need for the rude sarcasm.

The book of MJ's life is Kuwoonmong a/k/a The Cloud Dream of Nine. 7 daughters, 1 beautiful wife and MJ, himself. It will come true. Oh, maybe it should be the cloud dream of 14, though, including the 5 puppies.

I don't think it will be that hard to cover up MJ's coming out of his alien closet. Seriously in real life, if someone shows you a footage of some guy doing what MJ did, how many of you would believe that the guy is an alien with super powers and not some schmuck trying to pull a fast one on you? A few well chosen words and the brouhaha will die away in no time.

I agree. I mean, magician's pull stunts all the time (I'm thinking David Blaine). I would wonder how he did it, but in the end I'd think it was a publicity stunt for Song-yi's new movie.

My love for this drama is beyond words. Right now, I am just really really hoping for a happy ending!! This drama has changed my life seriously. I'm a huge kdrama fan and I've never been THIS obsessed with a drama before. I mean, I go crazy for kdramas but I don't think about it day and night. I think I'm in love with this drama.

Anyway, this drama has an amazing storyline so far. Loose ends get tied up pretty quickly. So writers, do please tie up any loose ends for the ending too! This dramas storyline is just too solid to be open ended. I couldn't sleep at night because of City Hunter's ending.

I just love JJH's character. I love the way she handles things. This drama never made me feel frustrated. A lot of dramas that go thru the infamous noble idiocy make me feel UGHHHH. Cheong Song Yi is forever my fictional idol. Interestingly, barely anyone in comments(yes I read all) mentioned anything about Cheong Song Yi's actress comeback since the hype about her on the news. I've always thought her golden fame was too short lived. It would be nice to see her career back to normal. But ofc I don't wish this more than her love life.

The ending is 2 episodes away! A happy ending for the OTP will make my life complete.

I have a Theory (with a big T).

While "painstakingly" reviewing past épisodes *ahem* I noticed that Min-Joon only started losing his powers after the first kiss with Song-Yi, and he keeps losing more and more of his powers after each kiss.

On the one hand, it could be a BAD thing, I guess, but if you think about what Song-Yi said this episode about him getting faster at recovering from them, I think it could also be seen as him shifting from alien to human progressively.

So my Theory is basically... That Song-Yi's saliva is slowly turning Min-Joon human... kekekekekekeke

Hmmm. I wonder, did he start feeling cold before or after he'd kissed Song-yi?

I think the first time coldness was mentioned if I do so correctly is when Lawyer Jang and him came out of the restaurant when he had the extra food for him and Song Yi. this was around the same time that he discovered the bear with the chip in it.(he had mentioned being cold) after the first kiss. This was when he took her to the room when she was in danger of being flung overboard on the ship but it was before the 2nd kiss, when she was staying with Do Min Joon, had gone to dine with HKJ and big brother then when Min Joon came home he was pleasantly surprised that she was there, and she was upset that he had compared her to a few less than flattering things and then did the .15 second stint.

I too have also painstakingly re-read all 19 recaps after marathoning the 19 episodes about 1.5x within the last 3 days, and have come to the same observation as you, BibiRouge, that Min Joon's power fizzes most predictably after he's around her for a while, and it escalates because as the series progress, they spend more time together, share more skinship, probably his poor heart is exhausted and blood pressure would require medication even for an alien.

So my theory is that MJ might be wrong about the reason for changes in his body as having to do with his expiring visa. Maybe his body disintegrates into particles of light 3 minutes after mission baby aliens is accomplish. Then at least the ending isn't too bleak :P

TBH I find the commenter Ivoire exceptionally annoying. She shares the annoying tendencies of a cross between an obsequious teacher's pet. That being said, I can't wait to watch this episode! Cried for the recap alone, I can't imagine the mess I'll be when I watch this. Thanks for the recap!

As a caveat - this comment is in the spirit of freedom of speech and having an opinion. On Ivoire, I'm not sorry, but I have my own tendencies of stating things that are obvious to me - her sycophantic slightly self deprecating way being one of those things. YMMV

Hey Javabeans, I apologise for retaliating to such nonsense, but this person clearly enjoys attacking people for no apparent reason. Though it's not directed at me, I still find it offensive, and would like to ask for such comments to be removed.

This episode made me SO tense when Do Min Joon just recklessly showed off his alien powers in front of everyone! How will they explain it later! Maybe they will make it a publicity stunt for Cheon Song Yi's new drama or something? Why am I so worried for a fictional character lol.

Things that don't make sense: Evil Hyung perfectly planning the poisoned wine bottle at exactly the right time, smuggling in the poisoned bottle etc. just seems a little too convenient. Also, since DMJ has been here 400 years surely he has absorbed a lot of people bacteria from people coughing, sneezing etc.

I think what will happen at the end is DMJ will not 'die' per say but will lose his alien powers. Or when his spaceship arrives they will have medicine to make him better. Who knows, I just hope it's not a reincarnation thing like Arang.

I think it has more to do with the exchange of saliva, There was an incident in the Joseon period when one of the ladies wanted to kiss him and he got out of that one in a hurry, he had mentioned that same time that he had gotten out of other similar situations, the first time he had direct contact with saliva was when the guy spat in his coffee and gave it to him and Min Joon almost died (that's what Lawyer Jang said)- that was when he came into contact with Lawyer Jang, either way he avoided eating with humans because of that. But after each session with Song Yi, the time of him being sick is continually lessened. This time it was a few hours, before that it was overnight, the time before that a few days. That doesn't include the pecks he'd been getting - he's been getting into problems with those too the first time he missed his balance when landing in his apartment 2nd time the bldg., got hit by car, can't teleport but have to climb.

I can't stop thinking about the end shot when Do Min Joon smiles back at the camera. Guys, this is a HUGE clue *winkwink* from the writer that they will give us a happy ending.

One question. What's the point of Semi's phone call? That scene of her with ex wife seems totally unnecessary to me.

Semi's two puny scenes today seemed to be just fillers. The second scene of her reading the news report and asking Bum to drive to the hospital was just as useless. I think perhaps they were feeling bad about giving Semi virtually no screen time and felt that they had to insert something in since Yoo Inna is the second lead?

Gah! I am ruined for life when it comes to relationships. My real fake world of kdramas has done that to me. Especially this episode. I love how MJ and SY's dream world is perfect, but she actually ends up being the one to separate dream from reality and face the truth that MJ must leave to live. Her love for him chooses him living over having him with her. Hurts so bad. I often think about why reality and dream can't be the same. really, is that too much to ask? Bt then I guess it is~

I agree with everyone here. The writers have done such an amazing job with building this plot line and has definitely earned itself a place as one of my top favorites drama.

But thats the problem.

Now they have more pressure to end this drama with such an amazing episode that won't be to cheesy or empty. The chances for this are well I would say 50/50. Why??

The writers have proven themselves aa great writers ans I do have hope that they'll manage to make a great ending episode.

But on the other hand the expectations they have set for themselves are very high for which I'm very worried that it will end leaving us with a lot to desire.

But whatever the case I'm going to watch the whole drama till the end!!

In the end, one has to choose, love or eternal life ? Cant have super power and still have love. Superman gave up his powers in order to 'love' lois lane...DJMJ has to be normal human to fulfill the 7 kids future with Song Yi...but if writer is kind enough, maybe retain some portions of his abilities..like time freeze, but give up the others, like inability to mix saliva. that will be daebek !

I loved Hwi-kyung in this episode. He is really rocking life. Ever since he first discovered that something was off about his brother, I really admire the initiative he took. Yeah, at first he was not subtle at all and I was scared for him, but he proved to be clever and willing to face the truth head-on. In that way, he reminds me of Song-yi, who had her own demons to face with the truth about Min-joon. Yes, I'm a total Park Hae-jin fan now. He looks so familiar somehow, but I haven't seen any of the other dramas he's been in.

And I have to say, the part where Min-joon had to disappear in order to get to Song-yi in time to save her from drinking the wine. That part, couldn't he have just let go of Jae-kyung's collar, walked behind any one of the giant brick pillars directly behind him, or even the really sturdy brick wall, and disappeared? I mean, it would've been faster than standing there listening to Jae-kyung mock him while he decided if he was going to disappear or not. Yeah, he still would've had to disappear in front of people at the restaurant and the hospital, but can't we pass that off as a case of David Blaine, Street Magic?

totally! I was just making up scenarios in my head on how he could have escaped without outright disappearing. Like zipping off at the same moment that JK is thrown into the crowd of reporters, or teleporting to outside the restaurant and running in.

Even though I know it's pointless x=

How i wish that "interview mode" isn't really an interview mode but he's telling someone (their half human-half alien babies???) their love story :) He's probably baby sitting while SY is out on a film shoot... wishful thinking...

Happy ending please!!!
